How I Went From A Vintage Toy Collector To A Vintage Toy Hoarder!

[00:00:00] Speaker 1: it's a lot it's actually overwhelming i've come to the realization that i'm not a vintage toy collector i've become a full-on hoarder like literally i'm a hoarder i mean come over here look at this looks like i got goody will bags that of stuff here that i haven't even taken out um that just brought it straight in from the thrift store and just sat it down and then i've got stuff from toy shows and stuff i've gotten from shop goodwill ebay and i've literally turned this upstairs into a full-on vintage toy graveyard like nobody's enjoying this stuff not even me especially me like i'm not enjoying any of this i mean how could you you know it's like i got look at this this gi joe headquarters got a great deal on it on facebook marketplace it was like 100 bucks for the box and the headquarters complete and here it is just sitting amongst everything else i don't have any shelf space to put it where a lot of people have like a basement that they put this stuff in and put it in totes like in texas we don't have basements so the upstairs has become my basement and it's not even organized so long story short it's time to get rid of this stuff it's time to purge this stuff because i'm not enjoying it and as long as i have it and i'm hoarding it like this no one else gets to enjoy it either so i'm shifting gears in with my channel i know a lot of you have been long time subscribers since i began this is this is six years worth of collecting stuff that's just piled up and i know so many of you enjoy the five thrift store friday videos but i can't keep doing this i can't keep buying and buying and not have anything go out so i'm shifting gears on the channel i want to bring you guys on a journey with me and what we're going to do is we're going to sell off this stuff and we're going to organize it and we're going to get rid of 90 of it and the only thing that i'm going to keep are like my grail pieces and things that actually mean something to me like my a-team collection or my rambo collection my guts collection my muscle collection but there's so much stuff that i bought just because it was from the 70s 80s or 90s and i bought it i had no attachment to it whatsoever i bought it just because it was a vintage toy and as a result it has completely consumed our house you know our downstairs is amazing my wife keeps it you know nice and clean she keeps it immaculate down there but up here um this type of stuff actually brings her to tears so when she comes up here and she can't get into that closet that bedroom because there's a whole bunch of other stuff behind that glass door right there there's a whole bunch of stuff in my bunker like i don't know if you can just take a little glimpse in there but like look at that look at that like i can't even film in there anymore because there's just so much stuff on the floor and it's just gotten ridiculous and it's it's hurting us you know so this is this is when collecting doesn't become fun anymore like i want to be able to be able to enjoy my space i'm going to be able to walk into my bunker and be able to sit down in there and be surrounded by things that i love and not things that i bought just because it was vintage so anyway um we've got some new content coming and uh i'm excited for it and i hope you're going to be just as excited as i am so let me lay out what this new content is going to look like and also what's really going to happen to five thrift store friday so let's start with five thrift store friday because i know many of you really love those friday videos and i do too i mean come on it's the happiest day of the week right and i'm going to continue to post five thrift store friday style videos in addition to many other types of videos from flea markets yard sales garage sales vintage toy shows me going into vintage toy stores marketplace pickups the whole nine yards i've got dozens of video that i have filmed over the last year that you guys have never seen that i have in my backlog that i can continue to release those toy hunting videos that you love so much each and every friday and i have enough videos to last months for that but on saturday morning starting next saturday you and i are going to go through my personal collection and we're going to sort through this stuff and find those items that i'm going to purge so these are items that i'm going to sell on facebook marketplace on my instagram account which is 80s toys rock i'll be having claim sales over there and we'll be doing those sometime i haven't figured out the exact date yet but there will definitely be one next week for sure and i'll update you guys on that but if you're not following 80s toys rock on instagram go follow me over there my vintage toy mafia i'm going to use to sell my stuff and each week i'm going to go through my personal collection and we'll be able to take trips down memory lane together look at the toys talk about the toys and conjure up all those warm feelings of nostalgia that we all love so much and you know and do spotlights on different parts of my collection i want you to think of it like this i'm sure you're aware of the youtube channel toy federation we all love that channel i love that channel you love that channel and what's so unique about that channel and i really believe that ryan was one of the first like real youtuber guys well he wasn't even a youtuber just a toy store toy store owner that decided to uh create content based around him buying collections from people like me so the collection comes into the store they sort through it they talk about it they educate people about the toys and then at the end they make an offer you know and they try to buy that collection from the collector so i want you to think about that and this content the new content i'm going to create is really just the reverse of that so it's not the toy store owner buying the collection it's the collector sorting through his own collection figuring out the value of that collection and then selling off that collection now some of this stuff i may take to like jayden's toys and have them buy some of the stuff in bulk i may contact some of my friends like alonzo you guys watched an episode of my friend alonzo coming to my house and buying some of the collection i was hanging out with aaron from take me home tonight toys last weekend at a toy show and i was telling him about uh my gi joe collection and how i want to just focus on collecting the joes and vehicles from 82 through 86 i don't want all this stuff beyond 86 like especially all my 90s joes i didn't have any of those joes when i was a kid i was out of playing with toys by that time so but i've got tons of 90s joes that aaron told me hey if you want to put it together and take a photo of it send me some photos and you know we can maybe figure out some sort of deal where i'll buy the collection in bulk from you so that's actually going to be one of the very first episodes that i'm going to post next saturday so next saturday when we start diving into this stuff we're going to go through my gi joe collection and we're going to pull out the figures that i want to sell now i may sell some of them in bulk to aaron i may pull out some other pieces and say hey i'm going to put this on my instagram account or you know i might list them up on marketplace we'll see you know this is all like i have an idea of what i want to do with this but at the same time it's all brand new and kind of unknown like i don't know how this is going to unfold but what i'd like to ask from you is to give me give me six episodes before you decide whether or not you want to continue to watch these types of videos or not so again i'm still going to be posting on friday each week moving forward but saturday mornings is going to be all about this collection and getting rid of it so i'm really excited for it and like i said it's this has become this stuff has become a bit of a burden and last year i had some major health issues i was hospitalized twice the second time i almost lost my life and it's really caused me to take a step back and say wow you know if i were to go if i were to meet my maker before i felt it was time what would my wife and daughter do with all this like this would be such a massive undertaking for them so i want to curate this collection i want to have meaningful pieces i want to have i want to curate it where i maybe purchase grail pieces things that are rare that are um less available you know become a true toy hunter and not just a toy scavenger because i feel like that's what i have become i'm not a hunter i'm a scavenger because i literally buy up everything and anything that crosses my path as long as it's from the 60s 70s 80s or 90s and sometimes even modern toys uh so i don't want to be that way anymore when i watch videos of guys like killer carp and i see his toy room and how neat and organized all of it is it's like man i want that i want that i want to be able to walk into this room and feel good about it and not to have clutter just everywhere i want to be able to like you know play video games in here watch movies and feel comfortable doing it and not having to worry whether or not i back up my chair because there might be a toy that i run over or i trip on the way out and bust something which has happened because there's just everywhere and i don't want that anymore i don't want it for me i don't want it for my family and when i said earlier that you know this stuff has brought nicole to tears at times sometimes she'll walk up here and she'll look at this and it's just so overwhelming and that's not fair to her it's not fair to her at all and it's not fair to me and at the end of the day if i'm hoarding all of this stuff like an evil hoard if i'm hoarding all of this stuff nobody gets to enjoy it and that's not fair to you and it's not fair to anyone else that's looking to grab a piece of their childhood you know so anyway um i hope you guys will give this new content a chance like i said the way i'm kind of looking at it you know six episodes in the tv world is like considered a pilot i think like or four four to six episodes so give it six episodes six weeks before you make the decision on whether or not you're going to watch this because i i think you're going to enjoy it you know so i'm going to actually have nicole up here with me at times many of you love seeing her on video and uh because she's hilarious she's funny and she makes some really wise cracks about at me and you guys love that you know and uh so she's going to be up here i you know helping me sort through some of this stuff and my daughter caroline is going to help me actually sell it so i promised her a small commission uh not a small commission actually rather large commission i told her she could have 40 of anything that i sell um because i want to teach her how to start and grow a business so i think that'll be fun so she'll be kind of running my instagram account and listing up the claim sales and stuff like that but anyway uh it'll be a good time it'll be a good time i promise so anyway uh i know this again isn't the isn't the video you were probably expecting to see today but this is the start of something truly fantastic uh something and i i really believe that a lot of you are going through or experiencing this same thing in your own household you know you've let the collection own you instead of you owning the collection and you're probably like me have stuff in storage bins and stuff just laying around everywhere piles of stuff you got to make a pathway to the bathroom because like there's just uh so much stuff everywhere you got to carve out a path just to get just to walk and get there and that's what this whole upstairs area has become and uh i don't want it to be like that anymore so anyway uh next week the first episode will air you can expect to see a video next friday a toy hunting video it may be me in a thrift store it may be may be me at a vintage toy show or a vintage toy store or a flea market or a yard sale uh but next week you'll get a toy hunting video and then saturday morning you'll get this new content which i don't even have a name for it yet so i don't know maybe you guys can help me out in the comments below and maybe come up some with some ideas for a show based around all of this so anyway uh yeah if you've got any ideas just throw them in the comments below i i read all of them so maybe yours
