[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome back to my channel for another Hot Toys figure preview video. Before we get started I want to say a massive thank you to Matthew for going out in person to Hong Kong Comic Con to the Hot Toys booth for snapping these beautiful high-res pictures. Seriously show Matt some love in the comments below because without him this video literally would not have been possible. If you're looking to pre-order your very own copies of He-Man and Skeletor I've popped some links to Pop Collectibles in the description along with the discount code JustinsCollection for 5% off your order if you decide to buy from them. As always do your own research make sure you're comfortable before buying. When you pre-order Hot Toys from Pop you can either pay the full amount right up front or leave a deposit and just fix up the balance when the piece releases. If you're heading down to the description why not hit that subscribe bell notification icon and join button so you're notified as soon as brand new Masters of the Universe content goes live. Because I'd wager there's maybe more coming like these designs were destined to be turned into high-end one-sixth-scale action figures. They started off life as toys in the 80s then we had the cartoon or maybe it was the other way around. Now we've got the movie and I am so freaking excited for this. Just to set the scene a little I know nothing of He-Man. Like I've seen the Netflix series but I didn't grow up in the 80s. We didn't really have a massive Masters of the Universe craze down here in Australia so I missed out on Masters. But I'm still so freaking hyped for this film. Travis Knight directing another 80s classic after he did Bumblebee. This movie fingers crossed is going to be great but Hot Toys they pulled out all the stops for both He-Man and Skeletor. Yes there's reused elements on this display base. Doctor Doom the comic book one. Batman Returns Batsy the 2.0. That is this display base. But we've got Castle Greyskull up front and it is beautiful. It's a shrunken down miniature version of it. It's not a diorama display base it's more like an easter egg display base and I've got no complaints. Like this is a 10 out of 10 display base. It enables you to be dynamic with him or you can put the crotch grabber on the other side and have the flat portion as the front of the display base. If they've not made any changes to this base mold that is you might not be able to move the crotch grabber around but with Doctor Doom and Batman you could so hopefully the same thing can be said for He-Man and Skeletor. Enough about the display base. It pains me to move on from it because it truly is just that good. Let's talk about the body. Brand new. Up to bottom. Not medical silicon which is what they've been using. Platinum silicon. Apparently it's an even higher grade of silicon. It's even more durable. Even more tear resistant. You can go translucent with it. That's why it's got this like subtle skin translucency effect. The skin texture is perfect. The muscle definition is insane and it's entirely seamless. Like this is not a situation where you've got a torso then a sculpted plastic hip area with the legs connected to it. No, no, no. It's all seamless even underneath the skirt. No, please call it with the comments. That does not mean there's anatomy under there. It's just platinum silicon. There's seamlessness. That's what I'm trying to say. The skirt is that leather-like microfiber material which is allegedly even more durable than real leather is. So I'm okay with that if it ends up being the case. The belt is sculpted plastic. The chest harness is sculpted plastic. The gauntlets are. So as long as the platinum silicon body holds up then this should be a pretty durable figure. I'm not loving the waist clamp though. You can see it digging into the platinum silicon. The best part about He-Man having a skirt like this is a crotch grabber would just be underneath it. So you'd never even see it. Whereas a waist clamp is far too visible. Now there is a seam along the outside of the body. The leg, the torso, the arm. You can see it everywhere. But I think that's just because this is a prototype. I wouldn't be surprised if they dial everything in and get those seams to be almost invisible when this guy releases. But we'll just have to wait and see. Muscle definition, as I said earlier, is beautiful. But let's talk about the size of the body. So one of the number one complaints that I've seen from the Masters fans out there in the comment sections of all of the trailers on YouTube is Nicholas Galatine while he did a great job getting into shape for this movie. He was cutting apparently well into production. He was ripped. He was pretty big. He wasn't quite this figure big. I don't know if Nicholas's team and Mattel had some input in terms of the size of the body. But I feel the Hot Toys were maybe a little bit generous. Like this is the idealized version of Nicholas as He-Man. I don't mind that one bit because he looks quite frankly beastly in 1-6 scale with this size of a body. But it does present another issue which we will get to when we discuss the head sculpt. His sword, it is sculpted plastic. Would have loved die cast here for it. But it's painted in shiny metallic silver and we've got this lightning effect over the top. So can you see the issue? The neck is so thick and the head sculpt looks a little bit small. That is literally the opposite issue that Hot Toys have been struggling with recently maybe for years even depending on how you look at it. A lot of people say that Hot Toys look like bubble heads because their head sculpts are out of scale and it throws off proportions. He-Man has the opposite problem now. His head looks a little bit too small for the gigantic body they went with. The likeness is there but because of the size of the neck I feel like it's throwing it off. They also went sculpted plastic for the hair. He's got moving eyes. There's a split underneath the chin but you won't see that from most angles. I reckon they get away with that. I'm interested to hear what you have to say about the likeness with the head sculpt. Does it need to be 100% perfect? Like the size of the body and the likeness of the head sculpt or is this realistic take on He-Man enough for you? For me, big fan of movie accuracy. Big fan of getting likenesses right in 1/6 scale. But number one, I don't think they needed to go artisan here because artisan can be very hit or miss and for a head sculpt that's already not a 10, I don't think you need to be messing with it. Yes, artisan hair might have looked better but sculpting this very flowy hairstyle out of plastic is probably the best way to make sure that every single unit off the production line is going to be exactly the same as the rest. You won't have any variance in terms of some looking good and others not so much. So sculpted is the way to go in my opinion. Also the body, don't mind the larger size. The head sculpt I think is good enough for me at the moment. We'll just have to wait and see when I see the movie and when both figures release. I have less to complain about with Skeletor. One thing in particular though we'll get there when we make a video for him. If you're looking to pre-order He-Man or Skeletor, I've popped some links to Pop Collectibles in the description, along with the discount code "Justin's Collection" for 5% off your order if you decide to buy from them.
