[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome back to my channel for another Hot Toys Secret Base figure preview video. Before we get started I want to say a massive thank you to Matthew for going out in person to Secret Base for snapping these beautiful high-res pictures. Show Matt some love in the comments below because without him this video literally would not have been possible. Now if you're looking to pre-order your very own copy of Ripley either Standard, Deluxe or The Artisan I've popped some links to Pop Collectibles in the description along with the discount code Justin's Collection for 5% off your order if you decide to buy from them. As always do your own research make sure you're comfortable before buying. When you pre-order Hot Toys from Pop you can either pay the full amount right up front or leave a deposit and fix up the balance when the piece releases. You're heading down to the description? Why not hit that subscribe, bell notification icon and join button so you're notified as soon as brand new Aliens content goes live. We've waited so long for this. Like we knew it was coming eventually with the advent of artisan I thought that opened the door for more versions of Ripley. I almost would have guaranteed that they were going to make Ripley from the first movie first but here we are with Ripley from Aliens. Look I'm not complaining I love the first Alien movie and we don't have the sequel without the first one but my favorite look for Ripley is her in Aliens so I am so excited to get this. But with that being said this piece is not perfect. You've got the choice sculpted or artisan we'll be covering both in this video. I've even got a shot from the movie of Sigourney Weaver in costume which will compare back to the artisan figure because I think that's important but just bear in mind this piece I feel isn't quite where it needs to be yet. Now full array of hands all brand new sculpts incredibly well detailed. Specific gestures for holding the pulse rifle, the flamethrower, there's even a flame effect that you can plug onto the flamethrower. I don't mind them including effect pieces but flamethrower effect pieces specifically they're very long which means you need a lot of depth in the cabinet to accommodate them. I don't think I'm going to be able to do it but you never know. The display base is reused from Rain which was reused from Bane 1.0 so there would be a bat symbol sculpted underneath the alien guts on the surface but this time if you get the deluxe you will get an alien egg and it's a proper in-scale alien egg. It's a closed one, would love an open one at some point but the detail is just sensational. It's glossy and slick and gross looking, there's vein work on the surface, there's even this biomechanical base thing that you can pop the egg on and if you get the alien warrior which was announced around the same time as Ripley, you can have an egg on either side of Ripley's base recreating the end of the movie where Ripley's going around torching the eggs. I would love to be able to display Ripley with both eggs but given the size of them I'm just not sure if I have the real estate in the display but the option is there and like I said the egg looks so freaking good. Let me know what you think of how you're going to display Ripley either with or without the egg on the base or are you just getting the standard version skipping the deluxe entirely. But they've finally done it. The licensed Reeboks just make me so happy. I never thought I would see the day where Hot Toys were shelling out the licensing for apparel but here we are and yeah they have the Reebok logos on her shoes but believe it or not this is not the first time they're making Aliens Ripley. It's not even the second. They released one like ages ago, I picked it up, I did a custom on it but then they also released her again with the power loader. I grabbed the power loader, did a custom with that first Ripley, bison body, the head sculpt from Alien Ripley that released much later with a much better head sculpt, weathered up the outfit, had the hair rooted and that was my Aliens Ripley and still is my Aliens Ripley in the collection. Will I be replacing that one with this? We'll have to wait and see when it comes out, I'm not sure yet. I've got my custom in the power loader, that's where she's going to stay but Hot Toys if you want to give us a new power loader I will be more than happy to pick that up because the first one the cables are deteriorating, all the screws were rusted out. While the electronics work they're not very good, the lights flicker and the rotating light up top makes an awful sound as it spins around but anyway let's get back to Ripley. I feel like the outfit isn't weathered enough for the end of the movie if that's the look they're going for, which I feel it is with the flamethrower strapped and taped to the pulse rifle. There's some dirt and grime on the shirt and the pants but I would like to see a hell of a lot more of it and some schmutz on the body plus the shirt is very thick and bulky. If you look at screenshots from the movie or if you just go and watch the movie you'll see how thin the shirt is, it hugs her body, she was running around, she was kicking ass, she was very sweaty so the shirt was sticking to her body, here it's just like a thick oversized doll shirt and then the head sculpt. Something about the face versus the hair, there's not a cohesiveness. Like look at the screenshot from the movie on the right, iconic image of Ripley. This head sculpt needs a rework, top to bottom, she needs to be more gaunt, the eyes need to be bigger, the hairstyle is completely inaccurate. But ignoring the screenshot from the movie, can you tell who this is supposed to be? Just your mind's eye view of Ripley, does this match that? Please tell me down in the comments for me. It's still a no. Like I can see Sigourney from certain angles, more so with the sculpted hair head sculpt which we're about to look at, but the rooted hair is so jet black, it just stands out way too much against the sculpt and then the sculpt itself is too full like we've already discussed. So the display base is the same across the standard versus the deluxe which is a good thing, I like the consistency there, it's just that you don't get the alien egg with the standard version. So if you don't care about the alien egg and you don't care about rooted hair, which might very well be a lot of people given the rooted hair somehow looks worse in terms of likeness and hairstyling, then the standard one is a great option. Still the same array of hands and like, is that a fingerprint sculpted on that right thumb sticking out? That is some crazy attention to detail if that is the case, but skin texture looks sensational on their new generation hands, and that's exactly what these are. The Reebok boots, they're heavily weathered, which is in stark contrast to the pants for the flight suit and the shirt, as I said earlier, not weathered enough. The reason why we're starting at the bottom again here is because I wanted to mention the bases are the same. Also, there's a different pose going on for this Ripley, the sculpted hair one, so I thought we may as well just start from the bottom again. All the zippers look real and slightly out of scale, a little bit too big, but at least the pocket zippers are going in the correct direction this time. With their first attempt, that very early pace, they had both pockets with the zippers horizontal. One is supposed to be vertical, so this is the correct way of doing it. That right wrist peg is so ugly. In the promo pictures, they tucked the hand, or the wrist peg into the hand, I should say, and they had the silicon for the arm sitting over the top of the base of the hand, and that looked way more seamless than this. I don't know what happened at Secret Base, but for some reason they decided to leave her like this. There's a lot of ways to pose around that visible right wrist peg because she's got a watch on, on the left side. So just angle her so that all you're seeing is the left side forearm facing forward like what they did with the artisan one. They had the pulse rifle and the flamethrower just at the front like that, covering that forearm. So it's unsightly, yes, but the reason why I included these pictures at this point of the video is just a bit of contrast to show you that you can work around this ugly visible wrist peg right up front. Now they're using platinum silicon, which should be durable. I'm hoping it's as durable as they claim it is. I've done some research into it. It's a higher sure or quality level, purity level of silicon versus medical silicon. Someone said, "Justin, what are you talking about? It's exactly the same as medical silicon." Technically, it is a higher purity of silicon, which should mean that it is more durable, but enough about silicon. This head sculpt, in my opinion, looks so much better than the rooted hair one. And that is not what we should be sitting here saying. Like I should be telling you that the rooted hair one is absolutely worth it. The artisan stunning hair craftsmanship. I really wish they would stop saying that, by the way, because nine times out of 10, it is not stunning hair craftsmanship, them just tooting their own trumpet. But I believe this is the superior 1/6 scale Aliens Ripley out of the two. The thinness of the hair strands, it's going to sit perfectly on the head sculpt because it's sculpted to look this way right out of the box. It's smaller. It's not as big and boofy, the hair piece, and we've got moving eyes, same as with the artisan head sculpt. I'm blown away more so with this head sculpt than the artisan one. Hot Toys needs to really hone in on what artisan means. Because if it means that you're getting maybe a slightly more realistic hairstyle, but it's less accurate and it's less good looking, then scrap the entire thing. It is so not worth it. So at the end of this, at this very moment, I believe sculpted is the best bet. But then again, if you're confident in styling rooted hair, you may be able to get more out of the artisan in terms of accuracy by cutting it and styling it yourself. I'm not adventurous enough to try that, but I'll just leave that out there. Now, if you want to pre-order either version of Ripley or both, I've popped some links to pop collectibles in the description along with the discount code "JustinsCollection" for 5% off your order if you decide to buy from them.
