upstairs did y'all see that report the new [1:13] york times did a report the new york times studied noel if you can find me this the new york times [1:19] did a study uh it's peter baker and someone else they did a study on donald trump's speeches like [1:24] they did his speech habits like examine them and they show according to the new york times cognitive [1:33] decline in his speech okay ontario canada okay pittsburgh all right new york louisiana arizona [1:42] plymouth massachusetts in the house canada did you guys know that and i'm going to show you like [1:48] the new york times is what's going on georgia let us know what's going on so it with just hours until the midterms [2:08] donald trump is putting on one hell of a spectacle out here on these streets he's boasting about grass and [2:16] algae like standing in front of the reflecting pond grass and aller and not allergy algae while [2:26] openly discussing preemptive pardons for his inner circle can you believe it it's i mean it's quite [2:36] outrageous the election hasn't even happened yet hasn't even happened and he is already talking about [2:45] get out of jail free cards for his friends now remember you remember guys remember drain the swamp [2:50] well guess what he's doing he's out here lining up the lifeboats for his cronies standing near the [2:57] lincoln memorial steps from where dr martin luther king jr delivered his i have a dream speech trump [3:04] spent much of his appearance congratulating himself on the reflecting pool the fact that he was standing [3:10] there at the reflecting pool is telling because is the reflecting pool the thing that's on your mind [3:21] right now is that what's on your mind the reflecting pool removing algae laying grass is that what you're [3:31] doing how beautiful it all looks after an over inflated disaster of a renovation to the reflecting pool [3:40] from a contract that nobody signed off on no bid contract while americans are struggling with the [3:48] cost of living how are you dealing with how is your reflecting pond or pool at home how's that how's [3:53] yours doing americans are struggling with the cost of living the president is talking about lawn care [3:59] i'm telling you the man is c-o-o-k-e-d he's cooked and then he started claiming that vandals had attacked [4:12] the pool with knives and oh my god allegations about his administration i'm just sick y'all do i do [4:18] do i have to talk about this pool today this administration has not found anything substantive to [4:26] prove anything that he is saying there's nothing substantive in court he just keeps talking crap there [4:42] there's nothing here watch this i'm thrilled to announce the official opening of the lincoln memorial [4:51] reflecting pool now we're giving serious thought to changing the name to the trump reflecting pool [5:01] we'll announce that sometime tomorrow i'm sure that secretary doug burgum will have a lot of fun in [5:07] announcing that now i'm only kidding i'm only kidding please don't report it just they'll cut it off and [5:16] they'll say yeah he's changing the name now we've done a great job here though the people from interior [5:23] have been incredible and uh the pool is now better and more beautiful than it's ever been before and [5:32] we're very proud of it we went through a lot with vandalism the vandalism was unprecedented people don't [5:38] like talking about it but built more than a century ago in 1922 this is the largest reflecting pool [5:44] in the world it's almost as tall as two empire state buildings laid on its side and it's uh [5:53] really amazing it's a fixture of our national mall and it's a crown jewel of the capital city we've done [5:59] it with many other uh monuments and statues unfortunately from the time of its construction [6:06] the reflecting pool struggled with leaks and algae and very severe problems having to do with weather and [6:12] heat and cold presidents obama and other presidents long before him worked on it but president obama [6:20] and president biden together spent over 144 million dollars trying to figure it out and fix it renovate it [6:28] and it was closed almost during the entire time they were unable to get it working and the close the pool [6:37] was uh usually for periods of a year or two years and uh the project was never completed and when it was [6:49] almost completed they tried opening they had 40 000 gallons a day leaking they were unable to find the leak [6:56] and it became a very dirty filthy stagnant mess it was a real problem they actually tried using the water from the [7:05] potomac and the water from the potomac doesn't work because of certain reasons that i won't go into [7:10] but it didn't work and it was a mess but they spent a tremendous amount over 100 i can't stop this [7:17] because it's other presidents it's amazing to miss teams but they've been trying to figure this i was [7:22] busy today noel did you watch this all day it's a tough one because of the likes it's actually the [7:26] largest for the longest pool anywhere in the world by far but i decided to get involved in this [7:34] especially over the last few months this pool and we've done i think a really great job we had [7:41] the vandals went to work but we also went to work on the vandals holy you've got to be kidding me [7:53] i mean did you good god almighty is right the longest pool i mean there's an election tomorrow [8:06] they're having to fight in red states and this is what their leader is doing this is what the president [8:11] of this country is doing this is crazy you're right cheryl he's baked i i want to see that new [8:20] york times thing if you can find it if you can find me i would have lost my mind listening to that they [8:25] said did somebody in his office say when he said i want to go do that or did did he propose that or [8:32] did somebody else propose propose that because there is no way in west hell that anybody could think [8:39] that this was good there's no way look let's just be honest we have been documenting the bruised hands [8:51] we have been documenting the swollen ankles we have been documenting this this looks sorry the uh [8:59] sorry and when he's just he's talking and when he has those ms mcconnell freeze moments ms mcconnell like [9:11] freeze moments lapses daytime drowsiness speeches that sometimes make absolutely no sense and then [9:20] yesterday brought more questions now listen to this so we're not calling people now from iowa [9:29] to tell them that their son has been killed he'll be coming home in a casket somebody from indiana [9:35] family from indiana i'm sorry to inform you but your son was standing at the base of a very beautiful [9:43] monument and he was killed instantly and he'll be coming home to you in a coffin we don't do that [9:50] anymore we have a safe city and if people do things that are wrong we've removed over 5 000 [9:57] career criminals we've removed them they're out of here and you know one stat i'll just leave this [10:02] was that one i mean i don't i don't know i don't even know which one to play i would just say how long [10:13] did this go on because i would like to hear it again i was working it down to get a chance because [10:17] when i say turn the tv off i turn the tv off but this is crazy and then there were like the two more [10:25] moments that i'm told can somebody please help this man here it is got that thing bing bing bing [10:38] here you hear you hear you it's so freaking cool i mean thank this please mary go go baby oh mom [10:50] oh do you see what i'm saying i'm not lying and people are going to sit around and pretend [11:12] that this behavior is normal this behavior is not normal bing bing bing boom whatever maybe not [11:23] maybe the pressure the pressure is getting to him the polls are pointing toward serious republican [11:30] losses and for the second time a federal judge has thrown out trump's 10 billion defamation lawsuit [11:37] against the wall wall street journal over its epstein reporting he's cooked the judge accused [11:47] his lawyers of grasping at straws and that also describes trump's political situation pretty well [11:53] now look that and that wasn't the only lawsuit there was another one about fbi agent like using the [11:58] justice department on on fbi agents then there was a one where they threw out the alaska lawsuit like [12:03] the doj is batting batting what we call goose eggs no surprise it's todd blanche you know todd blanche look [12:16] i will whatever the president says i you know i i do i have no uh we we're not supposed to be there's [12:23] this idea that the justice department is supposed to be independent that's what he does i'm not [12:31] independent i work for the president that's what he says now i want you to look at the battle for congress [12:35] okay now this is a poll and it's from new york times sienna polling so look at this now as we spoke [12:43] to some uh we spoke to the folks who are doing our analytics for tomorrow night and they admit and even [12:48] the times admits that this is an outlier but boy but i got to tell you new york times and sienna polls [12:57] that's the most incredible uh polling that's the two of the most credible polling sites i i can't wait [13:03] i'm going to talk to liz orion a little bit about all of this about the legal stuff about the polling [13:07] or whatever but i remember and i'm sure liz will remember when we get her on in 2024 like this it [13:13] was very similar like people were saying hey you know maybe it's gonna get better so this is the new [13:21] york times final poll and sienna senate surveys before election republicans are facing competitive [13:27] races across several battleground states including places that they would usually expect to win [13:32] comfortably nobody has won anything yet these are polls they're not results and some races remain [13:40] within the margin of error but if republicans lose enough seats trump faces a very different congress [13:46] investigations subpoenas hearings answering questions under oath and trump is already discussing [13:56] pardons for his inner circle before anyone has even been charged now i was not i am not surprised by [14:02] that if you're surprised by that then you again you tell me in the chat because i'm not [14:06] surprised i said he was going to get preemptive pardons too he's going to try to do it to everyone [14:10] and hopefully within all of this madness there are some state charges that will get some folks like [14:18] perhaps when we're talking about elon musk maybe he broke some sort of law or something in some state [14:22] i don't know and that way maybe we'll be held accountable the man who promised to drain the swamp now [14:28] wants to protect his friends who are swimming in it it's it's interesting that he gave it in front of [14:32] that swampy reflecting pool with all the algae in it because he is the king he is the king of the [14:37] swamps democrats where where's your messaging you should be calling him you know gosh i mean i'm not [14:46] a pr person i'm not a political person but i i would there would be some sort of swamp analogy with [14:51] him standing in front of the reflecting pool that i would have everybody who's going out on the cable [14:56] news on the um on the the digital news on everywhere they're just calling him swamp yeah someone said [15:03] swamp ass just calling him something right am i wrong what do you guys think you let me know [15:08] the names raised for these preemptive pardons include elon musk a former government employee [15:16] known as big balls remember that check it out and they want to uh arrest elon musk they want to seize [15:25] his uh factories uh nationalize spacex it's talk but if it is talk we'll have to protect them big [15:32] balls they want to arrest him anyone around you who who enabled you well i don't know about me i can [15:39] tell you this uh if they don't we just have to protect those people how do you do that can you [15:44] preemptively pardon well that's what biden did he gave everybody a pardon i mean you had the uh the [15:50] congressional committee the unselect committee set up he gave every it was a corrupt committee they [15:56] were all corrupt he gave everybody a pardon will you do that i would if i needed to sure everybody [16:03] who worked for you i would not even think about i'd do it i did it for j6 hi liz oryer good to see you [16:14] thank you for joining us the former u.s pardon attorney who was fired after refusing to recommend [16:20] restoring gun rights to trump ally mel gibson liz wow i mean the perfect timing for you to be here [16:31] liz what is going on yeah i mean so many things about that clip that you just played starting with [16:37] with listening to her say even big balls but but really the idea that we're talking about preemptive [16:44] pardons is so illustrative of the lawlessness of this administration this is an administration that is [16:51] choosing to push the limits of every law on the books because they know that donald trump will [16:59] bail them out with pardons people in his administration who are violating laws against [17:04] public corruption who are brazenly you know attacking people in the streets as far as ice [17:11] agents go there are all sorts of potential crimes that are being committed are being committed because [17:17] people feel that there will be no accountability because of the possibility of pardons and trump has [17:22] repeatedly repeatedly said that he will consider broad preemptive pardons at one point he said [17:28] apparently for anyone who's come within 200 feet of the oval office so that would include potentially [17:34] his family members as well as his cabinet members and possibly people in business who are paying tribute to [17:41] this administration with corrupt donations to things like the ballroom that in effect [17:46] are quid pro quos in exchange for favorable government treatment there are a lot of people [17:51] that are going to need pardons at the end of this administration and donald trump is giving every [17:55] signal that he will grant them liz this is not a legitimate use of presidential power right of his power [18:05] so it's not a legitimate use of it or a use that was intended by the framers of the constitution who [18:11] gave the president the power to pardon but unfortunately the pardon power is so incredibly broad in the [18:18] way it's written into the constitution that there really are not clear limits on it i think that there [18:25] would be a good argument to make if trump does pardon everyone in his cabinet that the pardons are [18:32] effectively undermining the separation of powers in this country by putting the executive branch outside [18:39] the reach of the criminal laws and maybe there would be a basis to challenge the pardons on [18:45] constitutional grounds i mean there's really just two limits on the pardon power one is that the [18:50] president can't pardon state law crimes only federal crimes and that could be important and the other is [18:56] that the pardons cannot violate other provisions of the constitution so that's where this idea of [19:03] separation of powers concerns comes into play if the president is broadly pardoning people in a way that [19:08] undermines the authority of congress to make criminal laws then perhaps he is failing at his duty to [19:15] faithfully execute the laws and there could be an argument to void any mass pardons that he grants okay [19:22] let me ask you then on the state level which is for sure are any you think any of these folks broke [19:28] the law on the state level and can be held accountable there i do think that that is a potential area of [19:34] accountability there are some types of crimes that will be challenging to prosecute in state courts [19:40] including crimes that may have been committed by ice agents because of federal immunity doctrines that [19:46] will be asserted in those cases that's not to say those prosecutions couldn't be successful but they will [19:53] definitely face challenges there are also state laws related to things like fraud and corruption that could [20:00] potentially be implicated here and there are state attorneys general particularly democrat ones who [20:07] do want to investigate and potentially prosecute the corruption that we're seeing so accountability [20:13] from state law is one possibility and civil lawsuits by people who have been victimized by crimes committed by [20:21] members of this administration members of the trump family people have been defrauded those can also [20:26] still be pursued even if pardons are granted okay and that's those are on the state level correct so [20:34] civil lawsuits could be filed potentially or federal court yeah and then state criminal cases could be [20:41] pursued as well if you can just make it a little simpler for me because some days you know anyway some [20:48] days i'm stopped up from allergies so what will these preemptive pardons actually protect elon musk and [20:56] others from i know that you you spoke about it here but i just want to be clear about it other folks yeah [21:01] it's an important question it will depend on how the pardons are actually written and one problem that [21:07] this administration has had is in not writing pardons clearly enough to understand exactly what the scope [21:13] is so there has been some litigation even over the january 6 pardons for example about how broadly they [21:19] actually apply but the broadest form of a pardon would be if trump signs a paper that says that he [21:26] is pardoning these people for any federal crime that they may have committed and if it's really broad [21:33] it would potentially insulate them from any federal criminal liability for anything that they've done [21:39] up through the date of the pardon the president cannot pardon future crimes so he can't say [21:45] this absolves you of responsibility for all of time but he can pardon any crime that may have been [21:52] committed prior to the date of the pardon and that is what a lot of people are hoping and expecting that [21:58] he will do so any type of federal law that might be violated anti-corruption laws or civil rights laws that [22:06] prohibit using excessive force by law enforcement officers any type of federal fraud statute mail fraud wire [22:14] fraud that sort of thing all of those things would be off the table if trump grants these broad pardons [22:22] you were fired liz after refusing to recommend restoring mel gibson's gun rights i mean what did [22:27] that reveal about how pardon decisions were being made maybe do i have that correctly yeah so my role [22:34] as pardon attorney was to provide non-political advice in the pardon process i was not appointed by the [22:41] president i was a career employee and the idea is that the justice department should have a [22:47] non-partisan advisor who gives the president advice about how to use the pardons in a way that's [22:52] consistent with the rule of law my firing indicated that this president has no interest in receiving any [23:00] non-partisan advice he wants people who will rubber stamp decisions based on political considerations [23:07] and who are willing to sign off on whatever his agenda is so that was sort of fundamentally inconsistent [23:13] with the idea of having a non-partisan career official in the position when i was fired i was [23:19] then replaced by this guy ed martin who is one of the biggest mega boosters out there his uh his motto [23:26] he said a number of times was no mega left behind he believed that pardons should be used to absolve [23:33] anybody who was loyal to mega causes of responsibility for any crimes they may have been committed [23:40] so the pardon power became very quickly completely politicized after i was fired wow so the the question [23:48] is because we're you know we're in the eve of a very big election liz i hope you voted so if democrats [23:55] take congress and begin investigating could trump pardon his inner circle and then eliminate any criminal exposure [24:02] i mean what could congress still investigate after that you answered that a little bit when you said [24:06] that there are things that could happen civilly or whatever but is what is congress's role yeah so [24:12] that's a really interesting question don one possibility you know congress can investigate even [24:17] if people have received pardons and in fact they might choose to investigate the pardons themselves and [24:23] how they came about and what money is changing hands and one thing that's going to be really interesting [24:28] is that if you are pardoned you cannot invoke your right against self-incrimination so if people who've [24:36] gotten pardons are subpoenaed to testify in congress they can't just go in there and say that they have [24:43] a fifth amendment right say that they're refusing to answer questions on advice of counsel because of [24:48] their fifth amendment right against self-incrimination which is something that we hear a lot when people are [24:52] subpoenaed in an investigation where they could potentially have criminal liability so pardons could [24:58] actually force people to go into congress and give testimony and one thing that we could see happen [25:04] is we could see people asked okay you got a pardon so tell us every crime that you committed that you [25:10] believe is covered by that pardon and that would put the recipients in a very uncomfortable position of [25:16] having to answer some hard questions about what crimes they believe were the basis for them to be pardoned [25:25] liz okay uh you are uh a seasoned professional who's been around uh washington and politics for a long time [25:35] have you seen anything and i shouldn't say because i know you probably haven't seen anything [25:39] when you saw what happened um in uh michigan and what's going on in washington uh what happened [25:47] with doge all the things what do you think what goes through your head well i try to focus on the positive [25:56] and i think the positive about what's going on right now is that we have a very functional court [26:03] citizen system and we have a group of citizens who are highly motivated to safeguard their rights and [26:09] to push back on government overreach and we have states that are doing the same so fundamentally like [26:16] it's depressing as it is to follow the news and as lawless as the executive branch has become [26:21] other parts of the system are continuing to work the things that aren't working are the executive [26:25] branch the president and everyone around him and congress and those are two big pieces of our system [26:31] but congress we hope that'll change next week you know tomorrow with with the election and um the [26:39] courts i really have stood their ground the supreme court that's another story but the lower courts that [26:44] are doing things like immediately rejecting the lawsuit trying to meddle in alaska's election that was [26:50] filed by the justice department immediately rejecting the attempts of the justice department to seize [26:56] 20 000 ballots that they really have no basis of saying are non-citizens all of that stuff has been [27:03] stopped blocked by courts so there are things that are still working the administration is trying [27:09] really hard to break those guardrails they've broken the internal guardrails within institutions like [27:14] the justice department they've thoroughly politicized them but other parts of the system are holding up [27:20] and if we can get back congress sooner rather than later and we can get that piece of the system [27:26] functioning again i think that we will get through this wow liz i mean come on though but yeah i was i'm [27:34] just sitting here thinking as you were talking like who thought it was a good idea for him to stand in [27:39] front of the reflecting pool today and talk about reflecting pool when so many people are hurting and he's lost all [27:44] these cases maybe that was the thing maybe he wants people talking about how weird this is you know [27:49] it's really astounding and i mean it is really depressing to drive around dc i mean i've lived in dc [27:54] for a long time and it no longer feels like my city it feels like a city that has been taken over by [28:00] hostile forces suddenly you know old statues that have been there forever are painted in gold and you [28:08] know they catch your eye because they're so bright they're practically blinding and looking around it's like [28:13] why why is this happening who is so invested in this project that dc is a construction site i mean [28:20] really across the whole span of the city there is construction going on to gild things paint them in [28:26] gold paint them in american flag blue and nobody who actually lives in this city wants this needs this [28:32] appreciates this think it's it's a good use of our taxpayer resources so it is a depressing time to [28:38] live in washington dc but i am optimistic that things will turn around soon after the midterm [28:45] elections hopefully we love having you liz oiler thank you so much please come back good luck [28:51] tomorrow we'll see yeah you too don um i'll be watching what you're i'll be watching the coverage [28:57] that you're bringing very closely and i hope you have good news for us okay great and if there's some [29:02] legal stops and pardons that we'll be we'll be hollering maybe you'll you'll come on thank you i hope you [29:07] won't need me but if you do feel free to call me thank you liz i appreciate it okay you know come [29:14] on people she's great by the way we we really like her always on point and very studied very smart a [29:19] brilliant lady um i just want to folks do we have that first sound bite because i just want people [29:26] i just want to remind people like to just tomorrow is a huge election people are hurting inflation is up [29:39] they can't afford afford mortgages gas is at crazy highs higher than under joe biden inflation is [29:46] higher than under joe biden but you wouldn't hear that if you're like at a trump rally everything it's [29:50] like opposite land opposite world can i just i just want to remind you can we just listen to that first [29:58] sound bite again this is what is on the president's today i'm thrilled to announce the official opening of [30:04] the lincoln memorial reflecting pool now we're giving serious thought to changing the name to [30:13] the trump reflecting pool we'll announce that sometime tomorrow i'm sure that secretary doug [30:21] burgum will have a lot of fun in announcing that now i'm only kidding i'm only kidding please don't [30:30] report it just they'll cut it off and they'll say yeah he's changing the name now we've done a great job [30:37] here though the people from interior have been incredible and uh the pool is now better and more [30:45] beautiful than it's ever been before and we're very proud of it we went through a lot with vandalism the [30:51] vandalism was unprecedented people don't like talking about it but built more than a century ago in 1922 [30:58] this is the largest reflecting pool in the world it's almost as tall as two empire state buildings laid [31:05] on its side and it's its construction the reflecting pool struggled with leaks and algae and very severe problems having [31:27] to do with weather and heat and cold oh my gosh president's obama and other presidents long almost completed they tried opening they had 40 000 gallons a [32:09] day leaking they were unable to find the leak and it i mean i i think it's important for people to hear [32:23] that and most of you are in agreement like something yeah so if you haven't gone out to vote or you may [32:34] be apathetic just remember most people are like that you take the car keys away this man has a nuclear [32:43] codes a word from our sponsors here's something from our sponsor msi reproductive choices that deserves [32:52] attention in afghanistan 250 young women are ready to begin clinical internships in nursing and midwifery [32:59] they were medical students when education for women was restricted msi developed this program to [33:05] give them employable skills and help them provide essential visit msi united states.org these women are ready let's help them [33:37] get started text fees may apply right i have time i vote for senate as is every michigander my vote for [33:47] senate is going to be with mike rogers and i will tell you why because we have to stand with country we [33:56] can't stand with hate we can't stand with hassan piker a friend of mine was talking about how [34:02] education is on the ballot and it's very true now there's a lot of young people looking at this [34:09] election you know i was a young person once and we've got to make a choice about who is standing with [34:18] them i think that chuck schumer is going to become the majority leader you know and i think that there [34:23] are incredible democrats and incredible activity taking place across this country i stood with my [34:31] party and i was booed off the stage and you know it violently shouted down you know i was up there [34:39] with other democrats those people who are on that stage with me they're going to make their choice [34:45] the ballot box is still very personal and and private and today okay in a moment of faith [34:51] like my man these people they certainly know how to uh wet the bed ship the bed and you know i hear [35:07] some people are saying that she was brave to do this there's nothing brave about this you know why [35:12] there's nothing brave about it because there's a way that you handle yourself in defeat and um anyone who [35:21] says something like oh this is brave this she should have done it they are are people who are sore losers [35:28] the people you see who get mad after sporting events and try to beat up people or don't shake [35:37] the opposing team's hand do you know especially now imagine if you're on the same team with that [35:46] person right you're on the same team with that person and that person scores the touchdown gets the [35:56] heisman trophy or most valuable player and you get mad that they don't and say he should have [36:02] fucking lost or she should have lost because they're not as they don't stand for the same things that [36:10] i stand for that's what that is akin to she lost she's on the same team basically she's on the same team [36:21] not basically she should be on the same team with abdul el-sayed and some things are better left unsaid [36:30] some things are better handled behind closed doors but that would be like you winning the game [36:40] winning the game the team you're not the mvp and then you're so mad that you're not the mvp or the [36:47] trophy winner that you go over to the other team to try to defeat the team that you were on there is [36:54] nothing brave about that and no one should be congratulating her the fallout from hayley stevens [37:04] endorsement of republican mike rogers is getting uglier by the hour her staffers have resigned senior [37:09] democrats are furious and the michigan democratic party has effectively disowned her i say good [37:17] it's chairman curtis hotel jr says stevens is no longer a member of the state party and won't be in [37:26] the future that's quite a fall for someone who was running to become the democratic senate nominee just [37:31] months ago and this is happening just hours before michigan votes so joining me now is curtis [37:37] hotel jr he's a chairman of the michigan democratic party thank you mr hotel i i i really do [37:43] appreciate you joining us i don't know if you if you feel the same about my analogy but i i to me [37:48] that would be like a traitor on the team that you're supposed to be helping your teammate and [37:52] your whatever and then all of a sudden but anyway when you saw welcome good evening to you when you saw [37:56] hayley stevens standing besides mike rogers what the hell were you thinking oh i was disgusted i i mean [38:02] it's a betrayal and you know forget the betrayal from me for a second forget the betrayal of her [38:08] colleagues forget the betrayal of jim cliburn uh who she lied to and said that she wasn't going to do [38:14] this it's a betrayal of her constituents what she has said that she is fighting for um is a complete [38:22] anathema to what mike rogers is going to do um mike rogers has stood with donald trump on every [38:29] bullshit thing that's happened to this country you know uh donald trump promised that uh we would [38:34] uh have prices lower on day one it's day 400 that certainly hasn't happened uh the there would be no [38:41] more foreign wars that the epstein files would be released i mean the only thing we've got is the [38:46] fourth best great lake named after us uh there is nothing that he has done to actually improve [38:52] people's lives in michigan and then she has been what she said a fighter for uh the voting rights act [39:00] that was attacked by this president um the uh the gay rights that have been that are being attacked [39:07] every single day mike rogers was running an ad during the lions game last week talking about [39:12] four trans kids that are playing in sports somewhere in michigan and that's who she's going to stand with [39:17] and who's running the most racist vile campaign that i've ever seen and so i think what the problem [39:24] she has is that she might have walked in the other team's locker room but our locker room is more united [39:29] now uh i'm i'm in solidarity house uh sacred place with the uaw we're uh rally with our candidates right [39:35] now and what i can tell you is is that when i walked in that room every single person shook my hand [39:41] and said thank you for speaking up quickly thank you for not putting up with this and and it wasn't a hard [39:47] call uh i'm sad for hayley stevens uh in some ways i think this is a abandonment of who she is but it [39:55] cannot be put up with and uh enough is enough and at the end date uh we're going to win these elections [40:02] but uh this is a distraction nobody needs so you know what mr hotel you know what i have to say to you [40:07] and i've um i have not seen this conversation in other places um beyond some of the um black journalists [40:20] in independent media or on social media the thing that got me because i was there yesterday i was [40:25] covering i don't know if you saw me there i live streamed for almost eight hours there yesterday [40:30] and i was following around um abdul el sayed and when this happened i i was the first person to to get [40:40] the leader james jim clyburn and debbie dingle who was there and mallory mcmorrow who was there as well [40:49] the thing that people are ticked off about in my community is that in the black community is that [40:56] she took her narrow interest and put it above the interest of as you said other other constituents [41:04] which is the cost of gas being able to feed your families jobs all those things but not only did she [41:10] do that right for she says it's for israel and i'm just going to tell you what folks are saying it's like [41:17] what about here your interest should be here now look you you can make a bet make of that what you [41:23] want but the thing that really got me is that she chose to do this spectacle of a thing on if not [41:31] the one of the most if not the most important day for the black church in america and she used the black [41:39] church and black people to do it she used them and us as a prop for her spectacle and she is too [41:48] unself-aware to understand what she did and just how offensive that is not just to black americans [41:58] but i think it should be for all americans considering the history of take your souls to [42:02] the polls which actually was created or started right there at fellowship church in detroit michigan [42:09] what do you think of that yeah i and i and just one step further from that don uh she also says [42:19] that she was doing this because of of people in the black community that were upset which is all [42:24] bullshit i mean mike rogers has been going around you know they said that we're working on getting [42:31] detroit voters they opened a detroit office right you know what happened the next week you go there [42:35] there's not a damn person there it was window dressing right they had a a democrat from roger [42:42] roger's event in pontiac it was the saddest bouncing house i've ever seen not a kid in it nobody in it [42:48] because nobody showed up you know i mean you you put a bouncy house in your backyard you can probably [42:53] get a few people to show up uh and this idea that she speaks for the she got votes in detroit because [43:02] she uh put out out an ad that had barack obama in it and people thought that that the president had [43:10] endorsed her that's not true but she didn't get some special place with uh to be able to speak for the [43:16] black community i mean um and not to speak up for detroit i mean i grew up on the east side of [43:21] detroit she grew up in up in oakland county she doesn't she has she's got no connection there uh [43:28] so you know i i i what i will tell you is is that yes it's offensive yes it's but but this was what [43:36] this is what mike rogers wanted right he wanted he he wanted to show that he's you know got some [43:42] momentum towards the end but at the end of the day mike rogers doesn't have anything to run on [43:46] and gas is five dollars in michigan uh ground beef is crazy high uh we have you know uh tariffs on with [43:55] our our biggest trading partner there's nothing that mike rogers actually has to run on in this [44:00] campaign so what he's been what have they been running out of and run on division she wants to talk [44:04] about hate i mean they're literally the president of the united states is standing up and and uh using [44:14] the racist tropes against abdul every single opportunity gets and mike rogers is standing with [44:20] it so uh she doesn't care about hate she doesn't care about any of this stuff i mean the problem [44:26] really is that hayley stevens has abandoned all the things she said she cares about uh and all because [44:32] i mean if you listen to if you watch the industry the the cnn interview last night which i thought [44:37] was like one of the most cringy things you could possibly spend your time watching but she said that [44:44] the reason that she did this was because she was disinvited from uh an event this is not high school [44:51] like like you don't get invited to the slumber party this is the first this is a free world that [44:56] we're actually fighting for here in michigan who will control uh the free world whether the supreme court [45:02] will be uh republican for the rest of my life um my kids lives i mean uh i have a non-binary kid [45:11] whether that person has a right to exist that's what's at stake in these elections right now and [45:16] she decides that because she didn't get the invite that she wanted that she's leaving town it's just to [45:22] me such a such an abandonment of who she says she is and i i just don't think she even knows who she [45:30] said who she is any longer but i can tell you what she's not she's not a member of the michigan [45:33] democratic party you you read my mind that that was gonna be uh that was gonna be my next question to [45:39] you um yeah you said that she's no longer a member of the michigan democratic party and won't be in the [45:47] future what does that actually mean in practice has she been formally expelled uh so uh what it means is [45:56] is that that she does not have access to van uh act blue kicked her out yesterday so she can't go [46:02] she can't go back there ngp kicked her out yesterday although we got everybody lined up [46:07] uh to say enough is enough on the on this if she wants to run a democratic campaign i can't stop her [46:12] from running as a democrat but she will have no tools with the democratic party moving forward [46:17] and i will i will as long as i'm chair tell everybody that she is not a democrat because and i don't [46:24] think it's gonna we're gonna need headlines or billboards to tell it she just told on herself [46:29] so you know i i i think in the what is probably the most important election i know we always say [46:35] that the most important election but this might be our last chance to actually take this country back [46:39] uh if you're not on the side of that i don't know what you're doing and i will say this is you know [46:47] she says oh well we can win other senate seats there aren't a whole lot of paths that don't include [46:50] michigan i mean that's just the reality but i but again i think it's important abdul is going to win [46:56] this race uh he has done the work and i think people are inspired by the message of money out of [47:03] politics money in your pockets and medicare for all and i think that's going to carry the day at the end [47:08] of the day she look now the thing the interesting thing to me is um uh and actually someone i know [47:15] watched the interview i didn't get to see the interview but they said she sounded a bit unhinged [47:18] like a bit manic or something but um she said that she was shut out of abdul el-sayed's campaign [47:27] i want to know what actually happened and if party leaders tried to keep this from spiraling now [47:30] it is my understanding that it wasn't abdul who did it it was actually debbie dingle who said [47:36] no no so if you're mad at debbie dingle if that is indeed what happened then why are you doing this to [47:41] um yeah what you're asking is is uh how do you make sense of all this and i don't know i don't know [47:49] if you've ever seen the movie uh a beautiful mind where they have like all the all the yarn [47:55] and the newspapers up on the wall i mean we could do that for a little while and try to figure out [47:59] what's going on in haley stephen's head i don't know if it'll ever make any sense uh so uh you know [48:06] i don't i don't i don't have a perfect answer to who said what everything else but again this is not [48:11] like high school pass me a note saying you like me or do you like me like me this is actually you know [48:18] the free world that we're fighting for here and so to me i mean like all of that is just high [48:23] school i mean at the end of the day you know uh i don't have to like you to vote for you i don't [48:29] have to like you to support you um what i care about is what are your values and the fact that [48:35] she's going to stand with somebody who is an antithesis of everything she's in her career said [48:40] she's fighting for i mean that's too much that's too much and um you know uh you know donald trump says he [48:46] wants her he can have her um if that's the the yeah that's what she wants to do uh but you know [48:54] i think i think that you know the sad part for her is is that um in three weeks um after they lose [49:03] michigan uh they're not going to be around any longer either and she's just going to be all alone [49:08] sitting out there uh but you know within the day uh she did this to herself and i don't have i i [49:15] don't have i have a lot of empathy in my life uh and i'm a hard person to uh say say it's done but [49:24] it's done it's done okay okay let me ask you this then because republicans could not have asked for a [49:30] better for better chaos on the eve of an election and even the president mike johnson and the president [49:36] are trying to capitalize on it but at his big swampy reflecting pool um extravaganza today he talked [49:42] about el say it watches yeah so two days ago it was reported that the democrat nominee for senate in [49:54] michigan abdul al-sayyad qualified for the ballot by campaigning and soliciting signatures at radical [50:03] mosques and called the uh united states the house of satan they call it the house of satan and we [50:12] change that we call the united states the house of god they call it the house of satan we don't want [50:19] people that call the united states the house of satan when you vote remember a party that hates [50:25] america cannot be allowed to rule over the people who built our country what how much does he call [50:34] people i mean he's but anyways i mean i mean like the closing message was about the reflecting pool [50:42] i mean think about think about that if you're a voter right and gas is is skyrocketed you can't afford [50:49] your bills and then the closing messages about the reflecting pool i mean it's just it's just [50:56] i mean i i'll tell you this if we don't win the uh a lot of they will deserve they will deserve what [51:03] they've gotten i don't know what else to tell you yeah how much damage has she done i don't believe [51:08] that this is going to penetrate this is what i'll tell you um i actually think this is a uniting point [51:15] i think there were a lot of people who were uh standing saying ah abdul's gonna win i think this [51:23] galvanized people we had uh more people walk into a party office across the state to randomly pick up [51:30] a door you know usually have to call people and call them three times to get them to come people [51:34] were just showing up in droves um abdul raised 2.4 million dollars yesterday in small donations um i you [51:43] know i uh i was just at a uh i was just at talking to uaw members and they were so thankful that we [51:50] acted quickly because um uh they they needed a response because people were worried but i think [51:57] now this has brought us back together i think it's it's galvanizing the work and uh i i don't know [52:04] i'm not even sure if hayley stevens knows what she's doing in this election i don't know why [52:07] anybody else would be following it so let me ask you um because you because of the trump thing and [52:13] everything we just talked about uh do you think she'll become a republican that seems like her [52:17] only path because donald trump is endorsing her and and inviting her into the republican party i think [52:25] so then you'll have another republican you know member of congress for a couple weeks i mean uh you [52:32] know i mean uh i i think that she will slink off into um obscurity after this i think that she [52:41] unfortunately you know three weeks ago uh you know with tmz and the jimmy fallon show and everything [52:48] else you know she probably could have been a beloved figure and they destroyed that in a matter of you [52:54] know two weeks um so uh i i think if she ran as a a republican in michigan why would the republicans [53:04] believe her either i mean at this point she'll leave town because she wasn't invited to the right you know [53:08] event i mean it just doesn't make any sense so i mean i i i don't know how anyone could trust her [53:15] i got one more question for you so um i think that this is really showing i mean i think folks kind of [53:21] know this but this is a real exposure uh for democrats over israel and anti-semitism the disagreement [53:29] or the issue of israel and anti-semitism is stevens an isolated case or does the party have a deeper [53:35] problem um you know i take that yeah i don't know if i think it's actually a really important question [53:42] to have um and two people can see and add the same the same ad and have a different understanding of it [53:52] and i do think that we have to be more respectful of how people see uh the things that that that it's [53:58] my angelou quote was it's not what you do for people it's how you make them feel [54:02] that's how you make them feel and so um i get that and and but i think abdul has been doing that [54:09] work and and the and the crazy the headline that no one's understanding right now is that he did [54:14] condemn the app he did what she said that she i mean like she she she went ahead and did this even [54:22] though he did the thing that she has to do and that kind of tells you this was a plan all along [54:28] they said they were they tried to make it about this ad that isn't an ad by the way it's a minute [54:33] 11 seconds long it's not running on tv it's not running any digital in in michigan but she tried [54:39] to make it that and and then you know she she was wrong i mean we have healing to do in the in the [54:46] arab community we have healing to do in the jewish community there's lots of work to be done in [54:50] michigan uh but at the end of the day i think we're all united in that this president does not stand [54:56] for us and certainly haley stevens doesn't either okay one more thing i want you to look at okay [55:01] because i want to look at them since you mentioned michigan let's look at the michigan race itself [55:04] okay and so this is the latest new york have you seen this new york times santa poll [55:08] i did abdul el sayed is 53 percent to mike has 53 percent mike rogers has 42 percent and 11 point lead [55:15] in the survey conducted from october 23rd through november 1st now it's one poll it's not an election [55:21] resolved this was done before you know what happened yesterday and i always like to i like to look at the [55:25] prediction markets too because people do use the prediction markets and uh it can tell you give you [55:31] an idea uh at calci the market currently gives el sayed a 78 chance of winning compared to 22 for [55:37] rogers and those are estimated chances of victory not voter support they can change and they can be [55:43] wrong you can uh compare the numbers yourself uh you can go to the new york times or sienna and you can [55:49] get their polling there you can also go to calci.com or use their their app you don't have to trade [55:54] so michigan really remains sir one of the senate races to watch tomorrow may when you look at that [56:01] poll what do you see when you look at the polls in the prediction 78 in the prediction market [56:05] and then he's ahead 53 to 40 something you know what i will tell you is that um you use a sports [56:13] analogy at the beginning it does not matter who's up at halftime it does not matter who's up in the [56:18] vegas spread um at the end of the day what what what voters and what people in michigan have to [56:24] understand is is that there's only one thing you control in this life and that's what you do and [56:30] so just like those people that came in across the state to knock a door this week um it's time to [56:35] go to the polls it's time to bring your neighbor your kids your grandmother uh to the polls and if you [56:43] have a little extra time tomorrow it's time to go out and knock a door and flush more people out [56:48] we only win this if we do the work we've been doing this work across the state [56:52] um and you could have listen i'm sure polls make people feel better we're all doom scrolling we're [56:58] democrats that's what we do to try to find information that makes us feel better or worse [57:03] uh but at the end of the day none of that matters the only thing that matters is what you do in this [57:07] moment and i think that no one will be upset that in the time of trump and the time of what's happening [57:16] um they did too much so i would say get out there and volunteer get out there and vote [57:22] well uh did you vote earlier you're going to do it on the day some people like to do a day of [57:26] i usually like to do a day of but i had to do it early because i wanted to i had to vote early because [57:31] i got work to do so uh you know i'll be out flushing uh throughout i was knocking doors with my brother [57:36] he's a state senator in one of the tightest seats he won by 410 votes last time um so i was out there [57:41] today with him and taking lots of media calls as you probably could expect uh we're going to do the work [57:47] and we hope we hope people will sign up for ships as well and uh go get it done they can go [57:51] to michigandems.com knock uh to sign up for a ship tomorrow so uh tomorrow night if you're around [57:58] my correspondent will be there covering el sayed if you're around we'd love to have you on we'll [58:03] have them catch up with you i'll be happy to be on my friends thank you very much curtis hurtel [58:08] curtis hurtel thank you very much chairman of the michigan democratic party we appreciate it and [58:13] look thank you for having a backbone standing up you know it was it was the easy it [58:18] was not a difficult decision don but i appreciate that not everybody makes the easy decision so [58:24] uh it was the right thing to do and i'm i'm proud we did it thank you yeah thank you we'll see you [58:28] soon good luck um so yeah so tomorrow should we tell them who's going to be covering for us yeah okay [58:35] so uh tomorrow night in michigan we will have we're on brand here because we have someone who's extremely [58:43] outspoken someone who's been a supporter um of uh el sayed uh someone who knows him personally and [58:49] is also you know of the same fate and i think you want to have people who understand uh in these [58:54] particular situations so wajahd ali is our correspondent uh who's going to be in michigan [59:00] and so we'll have folks all over we have daniel's going to be in kara swisher and scott galloway who are going to be at the beacon theater [1:01:04] tonight so i'm going to go see them uh and then we're going to come back and we're going to have [1:01:07] an election eve meeting and there you go so uh guys please join us tomorrow make sure you join us [1:01:12] tomorrow and i want you to be informed without being inundated by the way we're going to make
