grandmothers fans okay all right that's just a strange thing to say um you mentioned creating new stars [6:12] and it was just a few days ago we had maybe a new star born in the 154 pound division jaron [6:17] jaron boots ennis picking up two pieces of the junior middleweight title knocking out xander zayas [6:23] in seven rounds what are you still thinking about now about that fight from last week i am still [6:29] buzzing from that performance and that electric night at the barclay center in brooklyn this man put [6:34] up one of the fight of the year type fights both these fighters xander showed incredible heart [6:38] but the resilience on that man right there boots ennis being able to get rocked with withstanding [6:45] the fire sticking in the pocket rolling with shots coming back with uppercuts hurting up to the body [6:49] that was an electric performance a pound for pound for performance and i remember that it's just [6:55] greatness that we're watching that's the big question now is boots ennis worthy of being on the [7:01] pound for pound list he is now clearly number one in the junior middleweight division but do you make [7:05] him pound for pound top ten i know what i'm watching boots ennis passed that eye test i i i i think he [7:12] cracks the top ten pound for pound because whenever you have an exciting fighter like that that could put [7:16] butts in seats goes for the knockout has a high knockout ratio but has the skills to back it up [7:21] absolutely pound for pound all right you mentioned the eye test and a guy that passed the eye test his [7:27] last time out is abdullah mason now the newly crowned wbo 135 pound champion he goes over to saudi arabia [7:33] last november and defeats sam noakes by decision sergio what impressed you about that performance [7:40] listen just like boots there's many similarities with abdullah mason and we called this fight [7:44] all credit to sam noakes he put on a fight of the year type performance but that man right there just [7:49] found a way to dig down hurt noakes to the body it was those angles that impressed me with the young [7:54] champ it was the fact that he kept going to the body even when he was getting those headshots going [7:59] around the guard from that southpaw stands look at those body shots right there that makes cowards of [8:03] us all digging to those ribs noakes as brave as he was got the fight taken out of him and this is a [8:09] type of fighter that fans want to pay for and the fact that he's here in his hometown in his home state [8:15] he just wants to shine even brighter yeah i love that he's getting a hometown title defense i think [8:21] that's a great thing for a young fighter it's selling a lot of tickets here in the cleveland area it [8:25] wouldn't be boxing though if there wasn't a little bit of drama involved in it and about a couple of [8:30] weeks ago where joe cordina the scheduled opponent for abdullah mason he was forced to pull out had [8:36] some visa issues trying to get into the united states in steps albert bell who was preparing for [8:41] a fight on july 18th he is undefeated but he's a very different type of fighter than joe cordine isn't [8:47] he a lot different and i would think a lot tougher i mean beware the late replacement especially when [8:53] you were training to fight a shorter fighter now you're dealing with a six foot fighter a guy with [8:57] long arms a guy that knows how to come forward and a fighter in albert bell that's very patient [9:02] carries the confidence of an undefeated fighter but once he gets on the inside those long arms turn [9:08] into uppercuts and body shots very dangerous fight especially as a late replacement i would say [9:15] this is one of those curses that can pressure [25:32] come forward boxing type so look that's what i'm impressed with the fact that he can dig the body [25:38] go for the knockout get it and move on to the next one yeah i think he's got a good test in [25:42] christopher guerrero could a good litmus test for where he is as a fighter if he looks spectacular [25:46] in that fight we could be talking about tiger johnson fighting for a world title in the very [25:51] near future the co-main event shushu carrington the newly crowned 126 pound champion goes into his [25:57] backyard of new york city scores a spectacular knockout win over carlos castro what i liked about [26:02] that performance sergio is that shushu had to go through the fire he got hurt in the mid rounds of [26:07] that fight but he found a way to close the show got it um you know but you know as of right now and i'm just super just looking forward [40:02] to this saturday i got my mom focused on this opponent that i have coming up with me right now [40:06] uh you know with him or even uh renee palacios he's a good fighter uh i like to challenge myself you [40:13] know there's actually there's a lot of guys that uh carl tell you that didn't accept this fight [40:18] you know i'm saying and uh you know renee palacios he he took it he took it quickly and i respect him [40:24] for that you know i'm saying i see that he fights with his heart on his in the initial press conference and i believe [40:38] this shushu is the best story of the year and will i think continue to be that you know looking [40:43] back at that night in january at madison of [41:35] my life just coming up in brownsville losing my brother uh plenty other things that i've gone [41:40] through in life all the losses that i've put on myself self-sabotaging and then praying he's if he tells me that he's confident in this then i'm confident because i know [43:48] what he can do and others do as well so what was i guess your feeling you know what you asked him [43:53] what his feeling was his dad very different type of opponent i mean ade cruz fights one way abdullah [43:59] mason fights the other one was a title eliminator now it's for the full title what was going [45:00] trying to make this decision i mean it caught me out by surprise you know um it was an ideal opponent [45:07] for me you know i didn't really have thoughts on fighting abdullah like especially no time soon but [45:11] um everything made sense you know so talk to my pops about it um talk to the masons um and stepped [45:22] in you know i mean say the card give my world title opportunity you know i mean and put on the show for [45:27] all of ohio you're preparing to face andy cruz who fights a certain style abdullah fights another [45:33] style how much different how many changes did you have to make in the last couple of weeks you've [45:38] been preparing for this i mean it's boxing we're at the top level we've been in there with all the [45:43] styles in the world you know crews do fight a more moving style um i got some experience with [45:48] abdullah already so um just tailored the adjustments to that and really it's just about [45:53] being in shape and being prepared you know boxing is all about adjustments you know a lot of people [45:57] when this fight was announced look at your record look how long you've been around and wonder why is [46:01] this guy not gotten this kind of opportunity before how would you answer that i mean i get turned [46:08] down by a lot of guys i'm not saying that in a cocky way or like like a boogeyman or nothing like [46:12] that but a lot of guys say no when i cross the table i would have been had the name that i was [46:16] supposed to have but was delayed is not denied and we're here now so that's all that matters [46:20] you were once i believe promoted for a while by top rank is there any uh motivation to knock off one [46:26] of their best guys man me and top rank we always had a good relationship shout out to bob arum for [46:30] giving me a chance all the way back then promoted with me for years you know it just um it was a [46:35] amicable split and um it made sense uh it's it's a full circle moment that we here um fighting for [46:43] top rank for the w the wbo title that i was being trying to get at a different weight class but uh [46:48] like i said it's a full circle moment and we're here now we're happy for we're thankful and we're [46:52] grateful so you're not going to reveal your entire game plan but what do you need to do to beat this man [46:56] on saturday uh just be the best best version of it's on tmt so this is a national stage you know a world stage the zone and i'm just excited to [48:21] be able to put this show on with two of my brothers on a car have you felt that since you've been back how [48:25] big a deal this is for cleveland as you've been back in the city yeah for sure not not just for [48:30] this fight but leading up to this fight you know um my past 10 15 fights every time i i have a fight [48:37] you know i go out to another city and you know perform that i come back they say man when you [48:41] gonna fight in cleveland when you gonna fight in cleveland next fight when you gonna fight in [48:45] cleveland you know for the world championship when you gonna fight in cleveland so it's finally here [48:49] and uh i'm excited for it you know so cleveland gonna show up and we're gonna do our thing as we use as [48:53] you always do 21 years old you go over to riad and you fight an experienced guy in sam noaks you [48:58] had to dig deep to get the win that night how much better are you as a fighter because of that [49:03] experience i feel like it was definitely a a much-needed experience and that's not a type of [49:10] fight that you fight all the time in your career you know that's uh that's something i felt like i had [49:14] to do that night you know um each night is different and um it definitely you know gave me some [49:19] insight on how i go about the rest of my fights in my career so um it was definitely a a well-needed [49:24] experience and a great fight so you've been or you were for a couple of months preparing for joe cordina [49:30] who fights a certain style then you get a phone call saying joe cordina can't fight can't get into [49:36] the u.s uh but we got albert bell here what was your response to that it was definitely unexpected you [49:42] know um you know albert bell that's our guy you know uh from toledo but you know it's boxing you [49:48] got to be prepared for anything and um i'm prepared to come out on top everything happens for a reason [49:54] and one thing i do want to say is i'm the youngest world champion in boxing for a reason and i'm prepared [49:59] to you know show that when i step in the ring when you're younger in the amateur ranks you got to [50:04] fight all different types of guys all different types of styles but how how much change do you have [50:09] to make to prepare for albert bell after preparing for joe cordina i mean boxing is uh you know it's [50:17] offense it's defense it's iq and you got to put it together to tailor it to the person you step in [50:21] the ring with so i know that with opponent switch i just got to tailor it to the person i'm that who's [50:26] across the ring from me you know and um that's albert bell sound weird when i say it now but carrington now a world champion at 126 pounds in his backyard of new york city now he makes a title [53:28] defense against renee palacio so you heard calm already say it sergio here you go shushu your first [53:33] title defense a hard punching southpaw good for you no not only that but back-to-back tough [53:39] forward mexicans front foot mexicans power punching mexicans you always want to see how that east coast [53:44] you know boxing style does shushu carrington has a little bit of everything but i love the fact that [53:49] he doesn't turn back challenges against hard pressing fighters like this carl moretti knows what he's [53:54] saying against shushu yeah a lot to like about shushu carrington went through the fire against carlos [53:59] castro got hurt in the middle rounds of that fight winds up winning it by spectacular knockout [54:04] three other champions out there at 126 and shushu is targeting all of them first though is going to [54:10] have to go up against renee palacios who is undefeated for a reason as you can see not taking [54:15] one step backwards in this fight i think that's going to be a firefight in the co-main event on [54:22] saturday all right here we go with the main event not the main event we expected when this card was [54:35] announced a couple of months ago but an interesting one nonetheless abdullah mason the youngest world [54:40] champion in boxing taking on albert bell and sergio right away the size the height of albert bell [54:46] a pretty clear advantage albert bell knows how to use that height he knows how to use his reach [54:51] believe it or not he's a taller fighter but he doesn't have the longer reach it's mason who has one [54:56] inch longer arms and that's why he's so explosive on the outside but once he gets on the inside that's when [55:01] he's dangerous but will he be able to break that range from the from the taller rangier fighter in [55:06] bell you know albert bell was a fighter on the rise for many years he had a great win against andy [55:12] vences in 2019 just hasn't been able to climb the ladder onto the big stage since you see these two [55:18] guys from competing towns but clearly good friends abdullah mason looking to turn on make a great [55:23] performance here in his first defense in cleveland former sparring partners that could always be [55:29] dangerous you know you don't really want to know uh you know too much of your opponent you want to be [55:33] familiar with that opponent i basically ignored all my sparring partners when it came to fighting them [55:39] mason saving the show doing just that and facing the fire and you like to talk about the hometown curse [55:44] this adds another layer to it when you have both of your brothers fighting on the undercar when you've [55:50] got your dad training them there's a lot going on in the world of abdullah mason right now sergio how [55:56] would you feel if you had two of your brothers fighting on one of your cards well listen well [55:59] my if my dad was named valiant mason just like abdullah mason's father i wouldn't be i think [56:04] you're going to change your son's name to that i love that name i love that name but look this is a [56:08] man who who grew champions and these every fighter on this car the mason family knows how to squad they [56:15] know how to fight they know how to box but i love how they carry themselves with respect even temperament [56:20] but man once that bell rings they're vicious you know abdullah mason i don't think he would [56:25] have fought for a world title his last time out if there wasn't the money involved in saudi arabia [56:29] just sometimes the opportunity is too much to pass up on but he had to dig deep in that last fight [56:35] what do you think he gained from a tough fight against sam noakes well that's the one thing we [56:39] want to see with every fighter how is he going to react when he gets put down when he faces adversity [56:43] when he gets cut abdullah mason passed all those tests instead of being dropped but sam noakes was [56:48] in the fight all the way to the end he passed the test in a fight of the year type and now we know [56:53] what we have with abdullah mason one of the youngest champions in boxing do we know what we [56:57] have yet though in albert bell like i watch the tape i see the physical tools i see the obvious skill [57:03] but he's 33 years old and he's never fought on the championship level that andy ventes fight [57:08] was i'm doing the math seven years ago now like what do we know about albert bell not much but that's [57:14] the scary part great analysis no listen that's the scary part when you really know what what type of [57:19] fight is he going to bring we know that he's a lanky fighter he looks vulnerable he looks susceptible [57:23] tall his chin in the air but he's undefeated he has enough to keep you on the outside but once he [57:28] goes on the inside digs that body he knows how to fight tall he knows how to take a shot and just when [57:32] you break that range and you think he's going to be vulnerable with his chin in the air he's hitting [57:36] you with uppercuts tricky fighter especially as a late replacement so there's a lot of unknowns [57:41] that can make it tricky for a fighter like abdullah mason who's a younger fighter about almost a decade [57:45] man i think the experience of albert bell could be a factor in all this like you got to know i believe [57:50] abdullah mason is coming into this fight with a lot of energy coursing through him he's in his [57:54] backyard he's looking to make a big statement he's fighting with his brothers on the undercard maybe [57:59] there's a little bit too much energy we've seen abdullah mason come out with a little bit too [58:02] much energy before sergio he got dropped in a fight a few fights ago maybe that's something [58:07] albert bell could take advantage of all right look there's a lot of things that he could take [58:10] advantage of but the thing about mason is that he gets hit and he gets meaner [58:14] he comes right back after you i i love everything i see about mason i just think [58:19] the tricky part is going to be breaking that distance if he can break that distance mason [58:23] does love to punch really hard from that southpaw stance but once he gets on the inside and if he [58:28] can rip those body shots make that tall frame get smaller and smaller then we know that mason has a [58:33] game plan because you got to remember he was training to fight a shorter opponent a boxer on the back foot [58:38] now he has someone on the back foot but that's long and fights tall so those are the little tricky [58:43] things that mason mason needs to get past yeah abdullah mason youngest world champion in all [58:48] of boxing 22 years old you see him there posing with his brothers who will open the show on saturday [58:54] before abdullah mason just 27 years old has accomplished a lot [59:42] in his young career but 27 years old looking to do big things but abdullah mason just 22 looking to [59:47] do something special what do you think like
