"Can you describe what you saw when you saw Mamta on the floor? There were pills, blood, uh, capsule. No one was expecting that. No one saw that coming. [00:00:00] Speaker 1: Can you describe what you saw when you saw Mamta on the floor?
[00:00:06] Naresh Bhatt: There were pills, blood, uh, capsule.
[00:00:11] Speaker 3: No one was expecting that. No one saw that coming. Day two for accused wife killer Naresh Bhatt on the witness stand, and he's got a brand new story about what happened to his missing wife Mamta.
[00:00:25] Speaker 1: Did you defile the dead body of your wife Mamta?
[00:00:30] Speaker 3: Yes.
[00:00:32] Speaker 1: Did you conceal the dead body of your wife Mamta?
[00:00:39] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:00:41] Speaker ?: Did you kill your wife Mamta?
[00:00:44] Naresh Bhatt: No, not even imagination.
[00:00:47] Speaker 3: It takes a lot to shock me, and today, I am shocked.
[00:00:51] Speaker 1: What were you trying to put into the trash can?
[00:00:54] Naresh Bhatt: Dead body.
[00:00:56] Speaker 3: Naresh Bhatt has turned this trial on its head. His wife never left. His wife was never missing. She took her own life. But the lingering question now is, why lie about it?
[00:01:09] Speaker 1: Are you afraid that you're going to be blamed for bribing her to suicide?
[00:01:15] Speaker 3: Yes. A brand new story from accused killer Naresh Bhatt. And everyone is wondering, will the jury buy it? This was not expected. Suicide. Suicide is Naresh Bhatt's defense that his wife Mamta took her own life and left that little baby girl behind. Will the jury find this reasonable? Fasten your seatbelts, folks. We've got a lot to talk about. I'm Vinnie Politan. Let's investigate. Okay, here we are. Everything has changed now. Everything is completely different in this case. But before we get into what Naresh said today, we have to put some context into it. What the jury has seen. What the jury has heard. What we've learned about Naresh and his stories. And we begin with when this all began, right? August 2nd is when police responded to a call from Mamta's coworkers. A wellness check. And that's where Naresh says, ah, yeah, she broke her phone. She just left. She went to New York. She went to Texas. She went somewhere. She's left before she's gone. Okay, that's the initial story. Then, as the investigation continues, we remember seeing him in the kitchen and talking about this story where, oh, yeah, we were together downstairs. I went upstairs and then put the baby to sleep, went to sleep. And then she just disappeared. She just left. So in one scenario, she's like destroying her phone and leaving and telling him she's leaving. Another one, she just seemingly vanishes. And then when he spoke with Mamta's brother, she tells him that, oh, she went to work. She went to work. So all along, we're looking at these stories and saying, this one doesn't match this one, doesn't match this one. He's telling different things to different people at different times. Tell me how any of this could make sense in any world, right? How could any of this make sense? How could it be explained? Then Nuresh takes the stand. And now we've got his explanation. So now what is he saying? Now he's saying that, oh, yeah, well, those are all lies. I was lying to everybody. But I'm telling you the truth now. And the truth now is, is that Mamta took her own life. That's the story. That's where he's landing. Because think about it for just a second. If, in fact, this is true, right? He's presumed innocent. Let's say this is true. Well, then it makes sense that your stories wouldn't line up. Because we know when you tell the truth, it's a lot easier for things to make sense. But if you're purposely lying, you may tell different lies to different people at different times, you know, for whatever reason. The bottom line, though, here is that what he is basically saying is that Mamta took her own life. And then after she did that, he framed himself for murder. Because that's what it looks like, right? That's what it looks like. But it'll be up to the jury to figure this out. Is this a reasonable explanation? Are the cultural differences so deep that this somehow, someway makes some sense either to Naresh or to one or more jurors? Without any further ado, let's take you inside the courtroom for this, the biggest moment of the trial so far.
[00:04:58] Speaker 1: So, let's talk about July 29th of 2024. Do you remember that day?
[00:05:06] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:05:09] Speaker 1: What time did you go to bed on July 29th?
[00:05:14] Naresh Bhatt: Around 7, 8, around 8. Let's say a little bit, plus minus 8.
[00:05:22] Speaker 1: Did you, did you take bed that night?
[00:05:26] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:05:28] Speaker 1: And do, did you stay with her after you went upstairs? Yes.
[00:05:34] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:05:35] Speaker 1: Where was Mamta when you went to bed?
[00:05:38] Naresh Bhatt: Downstairs.
[00:05:40] Speaker 1: Downstairs where?
[00:05:41] Naresh Bhatt: Kitchen.
[00:05:42] Speaker 1: In the kitchen?
[00:05:43] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:05:43] Speaker 1: What was she doing in the kitchen when you left?
[00:05:45] Naresh Bhatt: She was doing some kitchen work and then she was on the phone.
[00:05:48] Speaker 1: Okay, she was on the phone. Do you know when she went upstairs to bed?
[00:05:53] Naresh Bhatt: No, I don't know.
[00:05:55] Speaker 1: Did you hear her come upstairs?
[00:05:57] Naresh Bhatt: No, I don't.
[00:05:59] Speaker 1: Did you hear her moving around upstairs after she came to bed?
[00:06:03] Naresh Bhatt: No.
[00:06:06] Speaker 1: So, Mr. Bach, what time did you wake up on, first of all, did you, did you wake up on 30th, July 30th?
[00:06:16] Naresh Bhatt: Usually if I have a baby around 12 o'clock and then around 4 o'clock, then yeah, that's the regular.
[00:06:24] Speaker 1: Okay, so did you get up at 4 o'clock or sometime around?
[00:06:29] Naresh Bhatt: Around, yes.
[00:06:31] Speaker 1: Where was the room when you woke up?
[00:06:34] Naresh Bhatt: With me, on the same bed. We are on the same bed.
[00:06:37] Speaker ?: Okay.
[00:06:39] Speaker 1: When you, did you leave the room?
[00:06:42] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:06:43] Speaker 1: Where did you go?
[00:06:44] Naresh Bhatt: Bathroom.
[00:06:46] Speaker 1: Which bathroom did you go to?
[00:06:48] Naresh Bhatt: Our bathroom, master bathroom.
[00:06:52] Speaker 1: When you, so, was the door open or shut for the bedroom?
[00:06:56] Naresh Bhatt: Usually even like our main door, we don't shut, we don't lock any of the door, even main door, we don't lock.
[00:07:01] Speaker 1: So, was it open that, that night?
[00:07:04] Naresh Bhatt: Open means like, not locked, but like closed.
[00:07:07] Speaker 1: So, it was actually closed into the jam?
[00:07:10] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:07:11] Speaker 1: But not locked?
[00:07:12] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:07:13] Speaker 1: When you started to go into the bedroom, where did you go once you opened the door?
[00:07:19] Naresh Bhatt: Directly tried to go to the bathroom.
[00:07:21] Speaker 1: And, did you get into the bathroom?
[00:07:23] Naresh Bhatt: No.
[00:07:25] Speaker 1: What stopped you from going into the bathroom?
[00:07:30] Naresh Bhatt: I have, you know, feel some different sense, and then different smells, and the dim light was there. And then, I don't know exactly the terminology. I have a different type of feel, sense, yeah, different sense, or smell, smell and sense, yeah.
[00:07:53] Speaker 1: What did you do when you had that sense and you noticed a different smell?
[00:08:00] Naresh Bhatt: Then, I just came back and then asked for Mamta.
[00:08:04] Speaker 1: Where was, did you see her?
[00:08:06] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:08:06] Speaker 1: Where was she?
[00:08:08] Naresh Bhatt: On the floor.
[00:08:09] Speaker 1: And, can you describe what you saw when you saw Mamta on the floor?
[00:08:20] Naresh Bhatt: Yes. On the floor, facing north side, and then she was lying with vomit, stuff like that.
[00:08:29] Speaker 1: Was she, what, was she lying? How was she lying? On her side, on her back, on her front?
[00:08:35] Naresh Bhatt: How was she lying? Back, tilted head.
[00:08:38] Speaker 1: Back and what?
[00:08:39] Naresh Bhatt: On the back, on back, head tilted.
[00:08:41] Speaker 1: Where were you standing when you first saw her?
[00:08:47] Naresh Bhatt: On the front.
[00:08:48] Speaker 1: So, had you moved towards her?
[00:08:50] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:08:51] Speaker 1: And, where was she in comparison to the bed?
[00:08:59] Naresh Bhatt: Behind.
[00:09:00] Speaker 1: When you say behind, was she behind the headboard?
[00:09:03] Naresh Bhatt: No. Back of the, where the feet are.
[00:09:07] Speaker 1: Where the feet are?
[00:09:08] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:09:08] Speaker 1: But, she's at the foot of the bed.
[00:09:16] Naresh Bhatt: Further back. Further back from the feet of the bed.
[00:09:24] Speaker 1: Okay. So, Mr. Bhatt, I think it's going to be necessary. I hope, I hope we can do this in a clear way. Was the bed on the same wall as the, the, the, the bathroom at that time?
[00:09:39] Naresh Bhatt: Yes. The bed head, bed head facing on the west, feet facing on the, the bed of the feet facing on the east.
[00:09:52] Speaker 1: And, it shows which way the directions are. So, is the bed against the wall?
[00:09:56] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:09:56] Speaker 1: And, the feet are into the room?
[00:09:59] Naresh Bhatt: Half of the end of the room, yes.
[00:10:00] Speaker 1: Okay, and then she's at the foot of the bed.
[00:10:03] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:10:03] Speaker 1: Okay. And, and just to be clear, with the photos that have been shown by the Commonwealth, you had moved the bed by then, right?
[00:10:13] Naresh Bhatt: That is correct.
[00:10:14] Speaker 1: It was no longer in the place where you had found her.
[00:10:17] Naresh Bhatt: That is correct. Some of the photos shown was, original beds were there, but it was on the video, I guess. I do not remember exactly.
[00:10:25] Speaker 1: Okay. So, sorry, I don't want to distract us from what we're talking about right now. You went over to her. Did you stand, or did you do something else?
[00:10:37] Naresh Bhatt: I do not clearly remember, but like, you know, once I touch her, maybe definitely I bent or knee. I don't remember that. Yes.
[00:10:47] Speaker 1: And, with regard to the vomit, I, I know this is hard. Tell me exactly where and what you saw with regard to the vomit.
[00:10:58] Naresh Bhatt: Around the neck and then side of the neck on the floor.
[00:11:02] Speaker 1: And, um, how about on her face or her mouth?
[00:11:08] Naresh Bhatt: A little bit, yes.
[00:11:10] Speaker 1: And, did you get, did you get close to see, to look at?
[00:11:14] Naresh Bhatt: Yes, then I turned the light on and, yes.
[00:11:17] Speaker 1: Okay, so you actually turned the light on in the room.
[00:11:20] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:11:20] Speaker 1: And, did you, did you go over and look at what was in the vomit itself?
[00:11:26] Naresh Bhatt: That is correct, yes.
[00:11:27] Speaker 1: What did you see?
[00:11:28] Naresh Bhatt: There were pills, blood, uh, capsule, uh, and then food particles.
[00:11:38] Speaker 1: Um, Mr. Bhatt, what is selfless?
[00:11:43] Naresh Bhatt: That is a pesticide.
[00:11:47] Speaker 1: Did you, um, how do you know what it is?
[00:11:51] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, back home, we use that for our agriculture and put on the weight, uh, to protect the weight, weight, wheat? We go. Uh, that's what we use, uh, uh, that's what we use, uh, at our homes.
[00:12:04] Speaker 1: So, do you use it in, uh, in a household way?
[00:12:08] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:12:08] Speaker 1: And, um, and is this something that you had in your own home?
[00:12:13] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:12:14] Speaker 1: Um, and is, these pictures a true and accurate depiction of what the packaging looks like of an unopened selfless package?
[00:12:23] Naresh Bhatt: A hundred percent, yes.
[00:12:25] Speaker 1: Mr. Bhatt, do you know what the contents of those packages look like, the selfless packages?
[00:12:32] Naresh Bhatt: I don't know the chemical constituent, but I know.
[00:12:35] Speaker 1: What it looks like.
[00:12:36] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:12:37] Speaker 1: And, um, did you, did you see evidence in the vomit of selfless?
[00:12:46] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:12:48] Speaker 4: Can you, you keep saying a word that I don't know, so I can't spell it. What are you, evidence of? Selfless. C-E-L-P-H-U-S. Selfless. E-H-U-S. Thank you.
[00:12:59] Speaker 1: Mr. Bhatt, are you aware of other people taking selfless?
[00:13:07] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:13:09] Speaker 1: Um, did you, did you find packaging of an open selfless package in your home?
[00:13:16] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:13:16] Speaker 1: Where?
[00:13:18] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, at the small closet, next to the small closet, under the first, first shelf of the closet.
[00:13:27] Speaker 1: You said that you saw blood?
[00:13:29] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:13:30] Speaker 1: In the vomit. How much blood did you see?
[00:13:33] Naresh Bhatt: I cannot quantify plenty of.
[00:13:37] Speaker 1: Um, how much food particles did you see?
[00:13:41] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, I, a lot, like this.
[00:13:46] Speaker 1: Um, what was the color of the vomit that you saw?
[00:13:51] Naresh Bhatt: Reddish and brownish.
[00:13:53] Speaker 1: Was Momta moving?
[00:13:56] Naresh Bhatt: At that moment, I move. She's not moving. I move.
[00:13:59] Speaker 1: Did you try to talk to her?
[00:14:01] Naresh Bhatt: Yes. Before touching, yes.
[00:14:03] Speaker 1: Did she respond to you?
[00:14:05] Naresh Bhatt: No.
[00:14:09] Speaker 1: What did you do? What did you do when you got close enough to see the vomit?
[00:14:17] Naresh Bhatt: I touch, try to, like, hey, uh, usually I don't, but like, you know, hey, what, because I feel this smell and then those, and then turn the lights on. So I try to, what's going on, wake up, and then I see that, I clean, try to do the ABC stuff.
[00:14:36] Speaker 1: What is, what is, what is ABC stuff?
[00:14:37] Naresh Bhatt: Oh, uh, airway, breathe, circulation, clearance, something like that. I exactly do not remember those.
[00:14:44] Speaker 1: You remembered the details of how you did that?
[00:14:48] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:14:49] Speaker 1: What did you do?
[00:14:51] Naresh Bhatt: Cleaning the mouth and then put the, uh, artificial breath, uh, and, uh.
[00:14:58] Speaker 1: What do you mean by artificial breath?
[00:14:59] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, uh, like, plus, before that, I figured it out, like, you know, not moving, and then I thought, I thought it's unconscious or something like that. So I feel is, breathing is going on or not. I don't feel the breath is going on.
[00:15:14] Speaker 1: Did you check for breathing?
[00:15:15] Naresh Bhatt: Like.
[00:15:17] Speaker 1: Put your hand next to her mouth?
[00:15:18] Naresh Bhatt: Behind, back of my hand.
[00:15:21] Speaker 1: And, and then what did you do?
[00:15:23] Naresh Bhatt: Then I don't feel that, and then clean as fast as possible, and then.
[00:15:28] Speaker 1: How did you do that?
[00:15:29] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, with my hands, bare hands.
[00:15:31] Speaker 1: With your, with your, did you, what did you do with your hand?
[00:15:34] Naresh Bhatt: Oh, clean.
[00:15:36] Speaker 1: And just outside of her mouth?
[00:15:38] Naresh Bhatt: Outside my mouth, and then try to open the mouth, and then with my mouth, put the ears.
[00:15:44] Speaker 1: And then what did you do?
[00:15:46] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, then I don't feel. That, uh, I exactly do not remember how long I did that, maybe 30 seconds, or a little over 30 seconds. Then I tried to do the CPR.
[00:15:59] Speaker 1: Okay. And what did, what did you do?
[00:16:01] Naresh Bhatt: And then bring the water, put the water, uh, on the mouth.
[00:16:07] Speaker 1: Did you, did you check, what did you do next after you tried chest compressions?
[00:16:11] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, it doesn't, you know, like, I don't feel the breath back again. And then, uh, then I want to check the pulse, and then I try with my fingers as well. And then I want to make sure, like, I use the stethoscope and then thermometer.
[00:16:28] Speaker 1: How long did you try to revive her like that?
[00:16:35] Naresh Bhatt: If you know, I don't know, maybe 45 minutes, an hour.
[00:16:41] Speaker 1: Mr. Pot, obvious question. Why didn't you call 911?
[00:16:46] Naresh Bhatt: That's the, I really, at that point, scare, I don't know why I did not. I tried to call, I really scared. I don't know why something take over me. I was really, really panicked. I don't know, I don't really, even like, it's been like two, over two years, I have completed more than 3,500 hours of meditation, still I don't have that answer.

You're telling the jury that for an hour you're attempting to revive her, yet within that hour, did not think for a moment to call 911. Now we know that you all know about 911, right? You can't say it's a cultural difference. We don't have 911. We saw a mom to call 911 at a different part of this trial, and I'm going to show that to you, but I panicked. That's a first. That's a first. I've watched a lot of cases. I've watched a lot of trials. I have never, ever seen someone say that they panicked and couldn't understand or figure out why they didn't call 911. Okay, so will the jury accept that as a reasonable explanation, right? A reasonable explanation for what happened, that Mamta took her own life. A reasonable explanation that, oh, I panicked that I didn't call 911. Okay. That gets us to the next point of all of this, because it's not just that, oh, Mamta goes missing. She's never found. She is disposed of. She is obviously, based upon everything we've seen from prosecutors, dismembered. So, we saw all the videos of Naresh running around. We know he drops the baby off. All of this is happening on the 29th, the 30th, the 31st. He's like all over the place. Why? What's going on here? Let's listen to his explanation about everything that happens after Mamta dies now. Because the story doesn't end there. The story continues, and this is some of, you know, the prosecution's most damaging evidence in their circumstantial case is pointing to all his activity, the things that he's doing. Why is he doing it? What's his version of what's happening? Let's take a listen.
[00:20:17] Speaker 1: At some point, Mr. Bhatt, did you move Mamta's body?
[00:20:21] Speaker ?: Yes.
[00:20:22] Naresh Bhatt: To get the extra water, yes.
[00:20:24] Speaker 1: And where did you, how did you move her body?
[00:20:27] Naresh Bhatt: I carry her to the bathroom.
[00:20:30] Speaker 1: Did you, did you pull her across the floor? Yes. Yes. So, you didn't pick her up in your arms?
[00:20:35] Naresh Bhatt: Not whole body, like, you know, some, like mostly, yes. But like, no, I cannot carry whole.
[00:20:41] Speaker 1: So, did you pull with the... Yes, that is correct.
[00:20:44] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:20:45] Speaker 1: When you left the bedroom, where did you go?
[00:20:47] Naresh Bhatt: To drop at the babysitter's place.
[00:20:50] Speaker 1: How did you know you could do that?
[00:20:52] Naresh Bhatt: I call or I text her, hey, like, you know, I'm gonna, I'm gonna bring to take care. So like, you know, she say, okay. And then I drop at the babysitter's place.
[00:21:05] Speaker 1: And why did you do that?
[00:21:08] Naresh Bhatt: I, I wanna put her over there and then finish myself as well. That was the plan.
[00:21:17] Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I could not hear what... Finish myself as well. I wanna put Nima over there and what yourself? Finish myself. Is that what it...
[00:21:25] Speaker 1: So what do you mean when you say you wanna... Kill myself. You wanna clean yourself.
[00:21:30] Naresh Bhatt: Not clean, kill myself. I mean, suicide myself. Okay.
[00:21:34] Speaker 1: When you got back home, what did you do?
[00:21:36] Naresh Bhatt: Try to hang.
[00:21:39] Speaker 1: And did you do that? I did not complete that.
[00:21:44] Naresh Bhatt: I get the wire, cable, all those stuff, and then I did not do that. Did you, what did you do now? Just laying down in a bed and then thinking about life, a little bit military stuff for a moment. Then I left.
[00:22:10] Speaker 1: And do you remember what you did when you left?
[00:22:15] Naresh Bhatt: I just, I think I changed my Facebook profile to the military one. So, and then I just left. I think about like what to do next, how to do next. Then I just left.
[00:22:32] Speaker 1: Do you remember going to the Home Depot?
[00:22:35] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:22:36] Speaker 1: Why did you go there?
[00:22:38] Naresh Bhatt: To find anything like to hide or like anything to go to the Potomac.
[00:22:45] Speaker 1: To do what?
[00:22:46] Naresh Bhatt: To find anything to hide a body.
[00:22:49] Speaker 1: And what was the second thing you said?
[00:22:51] Naresh Bhatt: Or anything like, you know, I can get something to take to the Potomac.
[00:22:55] Speaker 1: To the Potomac?
[00:22:56] Naresh Bhatt: Potomac, yes.
[00:22:57] Speaker 1: Were you thinking about, what were you going to do if you went to the Potomac?
[00:23:02] Naresh Bhatt: With the gold and money and I put the dead body on the Potomac river.
[00:23:09] Speaker 1: Did you try to take her body to the Potomac?
[00:23:11] Naresh Bhatt: No. After that, I did not find anything. And then I did not do that.
[00:23:15] Speaker 1: You did though, buy something at Home Depot.
[00:23:19] Naresh Bhatt: No.
[00:23:21] Speaker ?: On that day, yes.
[00:23:22] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:23:23] Speaker 1: Yes. So on that day, what did you buy? Gloves.
[00:23:27] Naresh Bhatt: One pair of gloves. Why did you buy gloves? I have no idea why I buy that. Usually I was trying to buy a drink or something. Usually I do if I did not buy anything. But like, you know, just I find the, I was looking for like, you know, anything useful. But like, I don't see that, just I buy the gloves without any reason.
[00:23:47] Speaker 1: So you were looking for something useful to help you get rid of Mom Takahwe's body, right?
[00:23:53] Naresh Bhatt: That is correct. Yes.
[00:23:55] Speaker 1: Mr. Bhatt, what is, what is, so did you go back home after Home Depot? No.
[00:24:00] Naresh Bhatt: Where did you go?
[00:24:01] Speaker 1: Walmart. Do you remember what you did at Walmart? Yes.
[00:24:09] Naresh Bhatt: What did you do?
[00:24:10] Speaker 1: Same thing.
[00:24:11] Naresh Bhatt: I'm looking for something can be useful or anything could be useful.
[00:24:15] Speaker 1: Yes. Did you go back into the bedroom?
[00:24:18] Naresh Bhatt: A few, yes, a few times. Yes. And then I was keep doing those again, like even in the daytime also, like those medical assessment, if I can do, I have done even like those multiple other times as well. This.
[00:24:33] Speaker 1: Wasn't she very clearly dead at that point?
[00:24:36] Naresh Bhatt: But yes, still I was trying sometimes, especially like CPR.
[00:24:43] Speaker 1: Did there come a point when you decided what to do next?
[00:24:49] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:24:50] Speaker 1: And do you know what time it was that you did that?
[00:24:54] Naresh Bhatt: Maybe around somewhere late afternoon. And what did you do? I don't know exactly, like late, very late afternoon. And what did you do? I thought like, I thought like, you know, I'm going to hide somewhere or throw somewhere, somewhere else to, you know, so nobody knew it. And what did you do next?
[00:25:12] Speaker ?: I tried to put in the trash can. Where was the trash can?
[00:25:13] Speaker 1: In the garage next to the car. But you're not using a noun in this. What did you try to put into the trash can?
[00:25:17] Speaker ?: I don't understand. You, did you?
[00:25:18] Naresh Bhatt: What were you trying to put into the trash can? What did you try to put into the trash can?
[00:25:23] Speaker 1: What did you try to put into the trash can? What did you try to put into the trash can?
[00:25:40] Naresh Bhatt: I don't understand.
[00:25:41] Speaker 1: You, did you, what were you trying to put into the trash can? Dead body. Mamta's body? That's correct.
[00:25:50] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:25:51] Speaker 1: At some point, did you start to cut the body of Mamta? Yes. And what did you, what do you remember about that?
[00:26:05] Naresh Bhatt: Just make a smaller size so that it fit on the can.
[00:26:12] Speaker 1: Do you remember the details of how you did that?
[00:26:19] Naresh Bhatt: Not all. Some of yes. Some of no. What do you remember?
[00:26:24] Speaker 1: Tell the jury what you do remember.
[00:26:27] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, I was trying to leg apart.
[00:26:34] Speaker 1: You were trying to do what?
[00:26:36] Naresh Bhatt: Lower body apart. Lower body apart.
[00:26:38] Speaker 1: Lower body apart. Lower her body apart?
[00:26:41] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:26:42] Speaker 1: What do you mean by lower?
[00:26:43] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, like separate the legs from the body. Okay.
[00:26:47] Speaker 1: And, um, did, were you, were you able to do that?
[00:26:54] Naresh Bhatt: No.
[00:26:55] Speaker 1: Um, were you, did you do, and we're just talking now about the day, that first day?
[00:27:02] Naresh Bhatt: Yes. Right.
[00:27:04] Speaker 1: Were you able to accomplish all of that, that first day? No.
[00:27:09] Naresh Bhatt: Why did you stop? Mentally and physically, I, I was powerless. I, I was unable to do that.
[00:27:20] Speaker 1: Um, you mean you didn't have the strength to do it?
[00:27:25] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:27:29] Speaker 1: Where was her body when you were trying to take, to take it apart?
[00:27:35] Naresh Bhatt: Uh, it's a bath, bathroom, uh, where the, uh, taking the shower, uh, it's a tub, white color of tub.
[00:27:43] Speaker 1: The tub? Yes. So the shower or the tub?
[00:27:46] Naresh Bhatt: White color of the tub.
[00:27:48] Speaker 1: Okay.
[00:27:50] Speaker ?: Wow.
[00:27:53] Speaker 3: The more you think of this, it's, it's the only explanation, right? Like then you can explain all the trips. You can explain the disposal. You're admitting to this dismemberment. Um, but you've got to, it doesn't make sense. So far, really, all we've heard is about a panic. This is all about a panic. I don't know if a jury buys a panic in all of this. Like this is gruesome, gruesome stuff that he's going to be doing to his wife, the mother of his child. Um, but he did claim that he's going to take his own life, but he didn't. He didn't. As we have seen a lot of unexpected twists and turns in this case and in this trial. And, and here's another one that I have for you. This is, we had testimony all about this Valentine's day, February 14th blowout that they had at the house. And mom to call 911. Well, Nuresh is actually recording her doing it. So let's take you inside the courtroom and take a look at this video. And as you're watching it, you know, think about who does this help? Who looks good? Who looks bad in this video? What, what story does it tell? What story does it tell?
[00:29:14] Speaker ?: Let's watch.
[00:29:14] Speaker 3: My brother.
[00:29:15] Speaker 5: My husband has taken all my documents and like I need your help because I don't have anything with me.
[00:29:30] Speaker ?: Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.
[00:29:34] Speaker 5: Yeah, you took and I don't know where is it. Like I need that document for everything, but I don't have access to it. I don't have access to it. I don't have access to it. My husband has taken all my documents and like I need your help because I don't have anything
[00:29:42] Speaker ?: with me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.
[00:29:46] Speaker 5: Yeah, you took and I don't know where is it. Like I need that document for everything, but I don't have access to it. I don't have access to anything like. He is here, but he is not giving me documents and like he is giving me torture.
[00:30:14] Speaker ?: Okay.
[00:30:15] Naresh Bhatt: 9-1-1-1, how are you? Document. Ma, go.
[00:30:18] Speaker ?: Thick, sir.
[00:30:19] Speaker 1: You just said.
[00:30:20] Naresh Bhatt: Great job. Thank you. You call to 9-1-1, ask them for the document. Thank you. Great job. Yes.
[00:30:29] Speaker ?: Mom Tata fee. M-A-M-T-A-K-A-F-L-E. M-A-M-T-A-K-A-F-L-E.
[00:30:29] Naresh Bhatt: Fine.
[00:30:30] Speaker ?: I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone number. I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone number. too. I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too. I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too. I don't have phone number.
[00:30:35] Speaker 5: I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too. I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too.
[00:30:37] Speaker ?: I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too.
[00:30:38] Speaker 5: I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too. Yes.
[00:30:40] Speaker ?: I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too. Yes. He's here. You can come and ask. I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too.
[00:30:43] Speaker 5: Yes. He's here. You can come and ask. I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too. I don't have phone number because he blocked my phone too. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:10] Speaker ?: You can come and ask. Yes. Yes. Yes. Thank you, sweetheart. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:18] Speaker 5: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:20] Speaker ?: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:25] Speaker 5: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:27] Speaker 1: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:30] Speaker 5: I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:37] Naresh Bhatt: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:40] Speaker ?: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:43] Speaker 1: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:45] Naresh Bhatt: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:49] Speaker 5: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here.
[00:31:53] Speaker ?: I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number because he's here. I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number.
[00:31:57] Speaker 5: I don't have phone number.
[00:31:58] Speaker ?: I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number.
[00:32:01] Naresh Bhatt: I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number.
[00:32:07] Speaker 1: I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number. I don't have phone number.
[00:32:10] Naresh Bhatt: I don't have phone number. What did you say there at the end? Thank you so much. You call to the 911. Everything is finished now.
[00:32:15] Speaker 1: Okay. You were pretty, pretty sarcastic.
[00:32:19] Naresh Bhatt: Yes. I'm saying good word, but in a bad way.
[00:32:22] Speaker 1: Were you upset?
[00:32:24] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:32:25] Speaker 1: Why are you saying good job? You've done it now.
[00:32:31] Naresh Bhatt: Because there was no document, no nothing like, there wasn't any issue with the documents. Just she was telling about documents, this and that, you know, without reason calling those police. And then I work for like security clearance type of job. You know, I don't want to talk to any of the police law enforcement. So, I don't want to involve. This is not, this doesn't, in our even community, it doesn't look good. It looks bad. It means like, you know, whatever our stuff, it doesn't look good. Okay.
[00:33:01] Speaker 1: And was there a second video? Yes. And we'll watch that video. Okay.
[00:33:05] Speaker 5: I'll call you just that with small discussion and this, I don't want to make this issue. Thank you. Yes. Just like, it was small discussion and it's already out. Thank you.
[00:33:29] Speaker ?: Yes.
[00:33:30] Naresh Bhatt: I know 9-1-1 Congress came, so I was the cop. She was trying to not to come to the police. I was telling her, I know, you know, what happened once you call to the 9-1-1. I was in the police. That's what I'm saying. I was in the police.
[00:33:55] Speaker 5: Okay.
[00:33:56] Speaker ?: Just like, everything is good.
[00:34:00] Speaker 5: Okay. Thank you. Thank you. What did you just say?
[00:34:08] Speaker ?: Thank you. You are doing a great job. Okay.
[00:34:11] Naresh Bhatt: Let's, this is the evidence being put forth by the defense. Okay. It's kind of bizarre, right? It's strange trying to understand it.
[00:34:27] Speaker ?: Um, two things though, that it does do.
[00:34:28] Speaker 3: Number one, when you hear that baby crying in the background, it makes it very real. Right? They've got this little child at home.
[00:34:32] Speaker ?: Right?
[00:34:32] Speaker 3: They've got this little child at home. And now we've brought Mamta to life. We've brought Mamta to life. We've brought Mamta to life and she's got her husband, like recording her. Like, what does that mean? So here's the explanation from the arrest. So here's the explanation from the arrest. So here's the explanation from the arrest. This is the evidence being put forth by the defense. Okay. It's kind of bizarre, right? It's strange trying to understand it. Um, two things though, that it does do. Number one, when you hear that baby crying in the background, it makes it very real. Right? We've brought Mamta to life. We've brought Mamta to life and she's got her husband, like recording her. Like, what does that mean? So here's the explanation from the arrest bot trying to explain what all this means. And again, look at it in the context of, you know, you're in the jury box and you're trying to judge this man. And, and now apparently judge this woman. If she is someone who would take her own life. Let's watch.
[00:35:16] Speaker 1: Do you know, um, do you remember when Mamta? When Mamta left, um, your family home for a few days in February? Do you remember that?
[00:35:28] Naresh Bhatt: I believe it was February 16th, 2024.
[00:35:32] Speaker 1: Do you, um, did, did anything happen at around that time that she, and how long was she gone for?
[00:35:40] Naresh Bhatt: I guess three days.
[00:35:42] Speaker 1: Okay. Did, did anything happen during that timeframe before she left?
[00:35:49] Naresh Bhatt: Yes.
[00:35:50] Speaker 1: What happened?
[00:35:52] Naresh Bhatt: That was like, you know, I, I, at that time I work at, in DC. So, especially that, you know, not very concerned about each others. And, uh, one incident happened somewhere in January, two incidents in January. So that the February 14th, she was somewhere outside. I believe I'm not 100% sure she was at Sarita's home. And Sarita takes me, or called me. I do not recall that. So they want to go for celebration of Valentine Day. That 14th February is Valentine Day. I say like, I, I, I say like, I'm going home. I'm about to home. So like, the food is ready. I did not know Mamta with her or nearby her. I don't know that. You know, I had some sort of conversation. Maybe Mamta already cooked food or something like that. And then she did not tell me Mamta is there or something like that. And then I reach home. I eat the food. And then she say like, you know, she is here. So let's go, uh, for the, you know, somewhere eat outside. That sounds, you know, like it's normal. Mamta and I do not use, usually eat outside. I have a health issue. She is pure vegetarian. Later, nothing happens. I go my, my bed, you know, before usually I go bed. Usually I pay my bills, whatever it needed to be done. Check my notifications, stuff like that. I say like a $1,000 withdrawn from the bank account. And I, I don't know who, like that. I never ever see before Mamta withdraw any time. I don't believe Mamta did it. So I, because you know, she was saying something like that. I think it was maybe some scam or something like that. And then I see, later I find like really Mamta take it. And then see her like, she come to my room. And then, you know, you don't trust me. Why you call them? I say like, you told me you did not take it. And then, you know, like, that's why I want to make sure who did it. So later she get mad. And then she say like, I'm going to call the police. And then I know why you try to.
[00:38:11] Speaker 1: Why, why was she going to call the police?
[00:38:13] Naresh Bhatt: She doesn't know that. We don't know that. And then she say like.
[00:38:17] Speaker 1: What did she accuse you of doing exactly?
[00:38:22] Naresh Bhatt: Then she say like, I'm holding some paper or something like that. Paper documents, not giving my documents or something like that.
[00:38:30] Speaker 1: The fight that you had on February 14th, that's, that's it. That's what that, that's where all that came from.
[00:38:37] Naresh Bhatt: That's it.
[00:38:38] Speaker 1: And.
[00:38:39] Naresh Bhatt: Main reason is I did not go with them to celebrate the Valentine's Day. That's the main reason.
[00:38:44] Speaker 1: And then about the withdrawal from the account.
[00:38:47] Naresh Bhatt: That wasn't the main reason.
[00:38:49] Speaker 1: Okay.
[00:38:51] Speaker 3: Okay. There's the explanation. He wouldn't, he wouldn't take her out for Valentine's Day. Her and her friend for Valentine's Day dinner. And that's why she called 911. That's, that's what his story is here. Like, okay, I, I, you know, it might be the truth. I don't know. I wasn't there, but like, really? How does that make him look better? Or how does that make mom to look like someone who would take her own life? Uh, it doesn't, but it does. I guess at a minimum for the defense, it takes the mystery somewhat away from the 9-1-1 call that it wasn't necessarily violence in the house, but there clearly was conflict. So, earlier in the trial, there was some testimony and, and some images of text messages that really caught my attention because looking at, you know, what happened here and trying to understand the relationship and where Naresh was in the relationship, et cetera. It seemed from these text messages that Naresh had moved on in like February and was looking for a new wife and was speaking with a friend of his about this Colombian girl. And that's how he referred to it, the Columbia girl. And it made him look like, okay, this is a guy who clearly doesn't want to be married anymore. He's looking to marry someone else. And that would fit right in with the prosecution theory that he planned and plotted this way ahead of time. He was going to get rid of Mamta and he was going to move on with his life. And as early as February, he's looking for a new wife. So, Naresh Bhatt now addressing that very issue and has an explanation for that conversation with his friend about fixing him up with the Columbia girl. Let's take a look and a listen to his explanation.
[00:40:36] Speaker 1: Do you remember the conversation via chat that you had with him that began on February 20th? Yes. And, um, and when you, you did the first chat there on February 20th at 8:06 AM. Yes. Do you see that?
[00:40:53] Naresh Bhatt: Yes, I see.
[00:40:54] Speaker 1: And you say, I need Columbia girl. What is that about?
[00:40:59] Naresh Bhatt: It doesn't come from nowhere. It come from like, we have a lot of conversation. And then, you know, uh, before this as well, it doesn't come suddenly from nowhere. It has a lot of conversation before I write it down. Yes, it is correct. And, uh, I was, it is not something very serious. And then we were joking a lot of other stuff as well. So we don't have like whole conversation. So if we have a whole conversation, then we can get it better.
[00:41:28] Speaker 1: And his response according to this document is, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. That's the one I'm going to present to you at any moment. And voice presents me with one from here. I need to fall in love also, be able to nationalize myself here, and then invite you to go on a trip to Columbia. Did you think any of that was true? No.
[00:41:48] Naresh Bhatt: Okay.
[00:41:50] Speaker 1: And then you respond later that day. You say, okay, please introduce me to the Colombian girl today. Okay. Why did you say that?
[00:42:00] Naresh Bhatt: It is just part of the fun.
[00:42:02] Speaker 1: Okay. Um, and you say, I need a good girl.
[00:42:06] Naresh Bhatt: Same thing. Continuation.
[00:42:08] Speaker 1: Okay. And then his response is, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Okay. Ready. When she arrives, I will introduce her to you as she is about to arrive. Did you think that that was real?
[00:42:19] Naresh Bhatt: No.
[00:42:20] Speaker 1: You say, thank you so much. If we both like each other, we will marry in the future.
[00:42:25] Naresh Bhatt: Here is like some other twist as well. My phone is always open. So, you know, Mamta could see this.
[00:42:34] Speaker 1: And so did you think she might see this?
[00:42:37] Naresh Bhatt: She not might, she saw it.
[00:42:39] Speaker 1: Okay. So, did you, did you know that Mamta could get into your phone?
[00:42:46] Naresh Bhatt: Yeah, I have the, you know, like, you know, same password for forever. Okay.
[00:42:51] Speaker 1: And you were aware of that?
[00:42:53] Naresh Bhatt: I want to show her. You wanted to show her?
[00:42:55] Speaker 1: Yes. So, you thought Mamta would see this? Yes.
[00:43:00] Naresh Bhatt: She see that and then did later realize that, you know, after a few, you know, few months, she realized that I know what you are. She know that what I'm trying to do. Like, I know what you are doing. I know who you are, so.
[00:43:12] Speaker 1: And what did she, what do you mean, I know what you're doing?
[00:43:17] Naresh Bhatt: She was trying, like, she knew that I was trying to make her jealous.
[00:43:22] Speaker 1: And then it goes on, the 21st, you say, he says, that seems perfect. It seems great that we'll just do one wedding and that's it. One wedding between all four of you. Yes. And you say, yes, sir. How long does it take to bring that girl to me? Are you, are you serious about any of that?
[00:43:46] Naresh Bhatt: Not at all.
[00:43:47] Speaker 1: And then, and you say, okay, send me photos. Would you want him to send you photos of some Colombian girl that he was going to hook you up with?
[00:43:58] Naresh Bhatt: It was that type of relationship. If he send, I'm not going to say, oh, I'm going to delete this and that because, you know, like, it was casual type of conversation. If he send the photo, I'm going to definitely say, oh, yeah, beautiful, nice. And then before the conversation, how this started, he talk about the Columbia had the best girl in the world because I was about to get married at one point. And then she was a Miss Nepal in Nepal. So she was here in Boston, Boston, Massachusetts. So we talk about that. And then I did not know at that time, the most beautiful girl in the world goes to the Columbia. And then she say, he say like, we have all, don't worry, we're going to give you all beautiful girl. That's how the conversation comes off.
[00:44:41] Speaker 1: Like a Miss World kind of? Yes.
[00:44:43] Naresh Bhatt: Yes. Miss World kind of. Yes.
[00:44:46] Speaker ?: Okay.
[00:44:47] Speaker 3: Miss World, Miss Columbia. This is, it's all a joke. It's all one big joke that he wasn't serious about any of this. By the way, if you go back to February 24, the reigning Miss Columbia, Camila Avella, was actually married with a child. I mean, there's some level of irony there. I don't know. Was this, was this a joke? Maybe it was, I'd like to hear from the friend if it was actually a joke, but knowing him and the way he sort of very quickly, you know, marries people, I didn't necessarily originally perceive it as a joke and I don't think prosecutors did either. So what will the jury think of this? What will they make of it? What will they make of it? In light of what the defense is now? I don't know. I don't know. I need a moment. I actually need a moment. After everything that we have now learned about the defense in this case, I think I need a moment to put everything into perspective. And obviously our coverage will continue as the trial is now turned on its head. Thank you so much for watching. I'm Vinnie Palotan. Until next time, please don't forget to hug the kids.
