Trump gives update on U.S.-Iran talks, addresses Pope Leo's response to his criticism

[0:39] I guess you're listening, it's over the fact [0:41] that they will never have a nuclear weapon. [0:44] Iran, you're marking it down, [0:46] Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, [0:49] and we agreed to a lot of things, [0:51] but they didn't agree to that, [0:53] and I think they will agree to it. [0:54] I'm almost sure of it. [0:56] In fact, I am sure of it. [0:57] If they don't agree, there's no deal. [0:58] There'll never be a deal. [0:59] Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, [1:01] and we're gonna get the dust back. [1:04] We'll get it back either, we'll get it back [1:06] from them or we'll take it. [1:07] Mr. President, as far as the naval blockade is concerned, [1:10] what's the end game? [1:11] Is it to force Iran back to the negotiating table? [1:22] We can't let a country blackmail or extort the world, [1:28] because that's what they're doing. [1:29] They're really blackmailing the world. [1:30] We're not gonna let that happen. [1:32] And you know, the amazing thing is, [1:34] we don't, can you believe this? [1:36] We don't use the strait, we don't need the strait. [1:38] We have our own oil and gas, much more than we need. [1:41] We have more oil and gas than Saudi Arabia. [1:44] Think of this, we produce more. [1:46] Saudi Arabia and add Russia to it, substantially more. [1:50] And by next year, we'll have double that amount. [1:53] So we don't need it, but the world needs it. [1:56] And many ships are heading to our country right now, [2:00] as we speak, to load up with the best, [2:03] really, I guess you could say, [2:05] somebody said the best and sweetest. [2:07] I don't know exactly what sweet is, [2:08] but when it relates to oil, it's a good thing. [2:11] But they're coming to our country right now. [2:13] There are many boats coming to our country. [2:15] Now, it could very well be [2:17] this is gonna be settled before that. [2:19] We've been called this morning by the right people, [2:23] the appropriate people, and they wanna work a deal. [2:26] They would like to work a deal. [2:27] Is it your anticipation, Mr. President, [2:29] that other countries will assist in this effort [2:31] to blockade Iran and those? [3:37] We have the lowest crime numbers we've had in a long time, [3:39] despite the fact that many criminals were allowed into our country. [3:43] But we've gotten a lot of them out who've done a great job on crime. [3:47] So we have the lowest murder rate in 125 years, [3:50] since 1900, the lowest murder rate. [3:54] So we believe strongly in law and order. [3:57] And he seemed to have a problem with that. [4:00] So there's nothing to apologize for. [4:03] He's wrong. [4:04] And the other thing is he didn't like what we're doing with respect to Iran. [4:08] But Iran wants to be a nuclear nation [4:12] so they can exterminate the world. [4:15] Not going to happen. [4:16] The deal is not reached by the end of the ceasefire. [4:22] Does your threat from before still stand? [4:24] Yeah, I don't want to comment on that, [4:26] but it won't be pleasant for them. [12:47] There were some negotiations happening with Vice President J.D. Vance over the weekend. [12:52] But from what he has said after that meeting, no deal reached with Iran. [12:57] President Trump, as he spoke to reporters there, said that unpleasant things will happen [13:01] to Iran if a deal is not reached by the end of the ceasefire, which I believe nine days [13:06] left in that ceasefire. [13:08] So questions there. [13:09] Reporters also asked him about his ongoing feud, I suppose, with Pope Leo, and he said [13:15] that he will not apologize for the words he said to Pope Leo. [13:18] Right now, I want to bring in CBS News White House reporter Olivia Rinaldi because, Olivia, [13:22] as I just said, a lot of topics touched on there by President Trump. [13:26] What were your takeaways from some of what he had to say? [13:28] Well, Mugo, what a strange event just to begin with. [13:31] The White House press pool was called to gather very quickly. [13:34] So everyone wasn't certain what this was because there wasn't an event on his schedule [13:38] in which the president was supposed to speak. [13:40] But then all of a sudden we saw a DoorDash driver deliver McDonald's to the Oval Office. [13:46] The president came out and this was part of his messaging around his no tax on tips policy [13:52] that was written into law in the one big, beautiful bill. [13:55] And then we have now seen Americans, you know, be the beneficiaries of that in this latest tax season. [14:02] Part of an effort for the president to kind of recenter his messaging back on the economy. [14:07] So quite notable there that he did that, especially when Iran is the big news and Iran is what is hanging over the American economy right now, [14:15] really scuttling some of the tax returns that people are getting because they're going to higher prices and higher gas prices right now. [14:22] On Iran, the president did say that Iran called. [14:25] He said the right people had called and they want to continue those negotiations. [14:29] We do know that diplomatic negotiations are still ongoing behind the scenes. [14:34] They are not face to face talks between the U.S. and Iranians, [14:37] but they are conversations happening between the Pakistanis, the Egyptians, the Turkish, [14:42] and other people who are involved in these negotiations. [14:46] So notable there. [14:47] On that AI depiction of the president as Jesus this morning, [14:52] which he posted last night on True Social, got a lot of attention, [14:55] got a lot of backlash from even conservative influencers who said that it was blasphemy [15:00] for the president to depict himself as Jesus. [15:03] The president said, and this was in response to our Ouija Zhang, who asked if he posted it, [15:09] because previously some things have been posted on the president's social media. [15:12] We've been told that it wasn't him who posted it, but AIDS. [15:16] But on this one, the president said it wasn't a depiction. [15:19] I did post it. [15:20] I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do with the Red Cross. [15:24] As a Red Cross worker, which we support and then blame the fake news for saying that it was Jesus. [15:31] However, it did look like he was personifying Jesus in that AI photo. [15:36] And it was posted by a conservative influencer before depicting the president as Jesus. [15:42] So there you go. [15:44] And on Pope Leo, the president said he's not going to apologize to him. [15:47] He said, Pope Leo said things that were wrong. [15:50] He was very much against what I'm doing in regard to Iran. [15:53] He's weak on crime. [15:54] He went public. [15:55] I'm just responding. [15:56] There's nothing to apologize for. [15:58] And this comes after a 60 Minutes piece last night from Nora O'Donnell, [16:03] talking to some of the archbishops in the United States about Pope Leo, his policies on Iran, [16:08] why he's speaking out about this war in particular with the backdrop of all of this tension between the Pentagon and the Vatican over some of the actions of the Pentagon in Venezuela and in Iran.
