[00:14:49] Speaker 5: i will be advising his excellency the president of barbados that the things that frustrated me in 2022 can no longer frustrate me in 2026 and that i will be asking him to appoint young kalil kothualdo i told you i am a jimmy cliff girl if you don't get it the first time what you do send it away and let it finish studying and bring it back so young man we wish you all the best i want to thank senator roshanna trim for her extraordinary contribution as a young socialist to the senate to the league of young socialists and to this party but i accept that in life as a young person you must be allowed to let your wings open up and allow you to fly and i expect great things from you young lady
[00:16:10] Michelle Daniel: all right there we go um appointing the youngest center we we did have a conversation yesterday about we did have a conversation yesterday about the young people so uh congratulations and um to anyone to anyone um you know i want all the young people to be lifted so what do y'all feel about that uh i don't see the chat can y'all hear me okay all right all right all right all right yes yes all right all right pedro you you starting in early right so last night we uh we had this conversation about the young people and um i did mention about you know uh what it what the what it takes to get hired and how you're not really young when when when you see some of these these job um postings um cxc a a degree and then five five ten years of experience that would bring you somewhere around 30 35 but he's a young man and i don't know what his qualifications are i don't know what he um where he went to school or you know what experience he had but apparently you know through the prime minister and through the president he will uh he will make it through he will make it through yeah it is monday night so yes he will make it through so um let's see what else again today in the news while we wait on uh mr gaskin
[00:18:41] Speaker 2: okay
[00:18:52] Michelle Daniel: um once again i'm just saying that the weather is crackling outside so hopefully um hopefully we stay on air put it that way if you see me go off air that's why because the lights will flicker in here um thick one here um wednesday wednesday i think we're getting back to normal on wednesday uh more of verbatis we built and most likely marcia and dave will have footage from you know the the the youth camp this uh this weekend and um we'll get back to a regular schedule uh at at the marcia week show so good night for those uh those who are just are just joining welcome to the marcia week show um we are just waiting on uh mr gasking our resident environmentalist to to to come through and give us some knowledge on regulations with remains and uh hairdresser regulation there you go hairdresser dresser regulation so i'm just going through your comments i'm just going through your comments oh we didn't we didn't discuss you know i'm way ahead of myself i had some other thing we didn't discuss praise academy praise academy has a wonderful program praise academy um please please please it's for uh three years old and up please sign up sign your children up please uh contact uh praise academy uh two two two four six two three six seven thousand and sign your children up and sign your children up we also have the elevate program if your child's struggling to read struggling with um you know math reading comprehension please please we're trying to get an elevate in every parish in every parish uh computer skills i know some adults want like a computer program so we're we're working on those um on those things so if you have time if you have time to tutor one hour a week if you are a university student and you have hours to give back you can contact praise academy you can contact marcia weeks um two three six seven seven seven thousand well you know um it's election time for us here in the u.s this is our midterms and it's pretty quiet here right now anything that's going on it's just about election so we're hoping for the we're hoping for the best hoping for the best next week's tuesday is election day november 3rd election date um in the u.s good night margaret good night you guys just give me a second because i have to do both yeah just hold on one second i have to fix the screen.
[00:23:44] Speaker ?: I'll see you next time.
[00:24:14] Michelle Daniel: All right, there we go. I hope everyone is out there supporting the Barbados netball team. I know Mr. Babs, he works hard, worked hard, you know, in sports. So I hope everyone out supports, supporting Barbados, supporting Barbados in all the sports, because that's what we need with the young people. So everyone doesn't have academics. Some people are talented in music. Some people are talented in sports. So please go out and support our young people in their sport. Enjoy it and good night, good night. Good night, Jacqueline Allen. You know, we're going to get some other phone numbers here, because if I don't have access to the other phone, so I don't have access to the phone. So hopefully we work something out where we get another phone. I am trying to create a music video. And I've asked for those who are interested in being in the video, meaning I would like real Barbadians to be our Pride is Forever video. That's my contribution to Barbados, this 60-year independence and beyond. And I would like Barbadians to, it doesn't, you don't even have, as long as you love Barbados and you want to be part of it, you can send me a photo of holding your flag or a 10-second, just a 10-second video with your hands up or waving. I would like to put Barbadians in the video and hopefully get it produced very shortly. So if you are interested and you would like to be in the video or the song, Our Pride is Forever, please contact me. And I will for sure make you part of the production. I know some people don't want to be on camera. You can either put some, where you're from, I'm trying to get everyone out there, where you're from, where you are at the time of taking the photo. So I really would appreciate that. And I appreciate everyone's support on that song. Thank you so much. So while we wait on, I'll miss the Gaskin. Let me put the photo up of our team here. Hold on one second. Let me just share my screen. Oh, there we go. There we go. Mr. Babb, he's coming in this evening also. So he will be able to discuss the Barbados team. Beautiful young ladies. So please go out. Please support our youth. Support what they do. Mr. Gaskin just entered the studio. So we will, he'll be ready shortly for his presentation. Whenever you're ready, Mr. Gaskin, you can come in or I'll let you in.
[00:28:42] Speaker 6: Welcome to everyone. Good night, good night. Hi, good night. This evening, I just want to continue looking at the health services regulations. You know, I would have mentioned some time ago that on the same show that we operate under about 25 different regulations. And these 25 regulations actually help to reduce morbidity and mortality in Barbados. And not for the environmental health officers, a lot of things would have gone wrong in this country. And, you know, I always come with some real life experiences that I would have experienced during my career, for a five-year career as an environmental health officer.
[00:29:49] Michelle Daniel: Yes.
[00:29:50] Speaker 6: So, right. So, this evening, I want to look at the health services, hairdressers, and hair salon regulations. And the reason why I am looking at that is because when I was at Morris Bay Park a few years ago, I received a notification from the doctor about a child who was 12 years old who was hospitalized with hepatitis B.
[00:30:28] Speaker 2: Wow.
[00:30:28] Speaker 6: Of course, you know, these hepatitis A, B, C, A and C mostly from body fluids and so on and hepatitis B from blood where you're using persons injecting themselves or blood transfusions or persons coming in contact with someone and says blood. And hepatitis B from the word hepatic means the liver. So, it means that the liver is being destroyed. And there was this 12-year-old boy who had to be hospitalized at the QEH for at least five days.
[00:31:06] Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
[00:31:06] Speaker 6: So, when the doctor was sending notification to us and I asked one of my officers to investigate what we discovered was that the, his uncle had on a tattoo parlor and he had done a tattoo on someone and he should not have left the needle, the syringe knocking around. And of course, you all know boys will be boys. So, this to have your boy took up the needle syringe that was used to pierce, do the tattoo on someone and he tried piercing himself. Obviously, that needle was having the blood and the hepatitis virus from the person and he was hospitalized for five days. I am saying this because I like to see persons with the tattoos, but I know I personally will not want one. And I admire persons with the tattoos. So, what I'm saying here is that under the regulation, the person should use a new, every time he's doing a new tattoo, that person should, the artist should have a new clean syringe and when it's finished it should be burnt and it should not be knocking around like that. In terms of the hair salon and I could see you Michelle with your hair there looking very nice.
[00:32:59] Speaker 7: Thank you.
[00:33:00] Speaker 6: Yes, looking very nice. The hairdresser must apply for a license at the jurisdiction within where the salon operates from. So, if it's in Swan Street then Bramford Tate will be the place. If it's in St. Philip, St. Philip Parkland anywhere in St. Thomas Spooner going up there that will be between Bramford Tate and Eunice Gibson and so on. And in St. Peter St. Jesus Marsman. So, they have to apply for a license and what viewers don't know is that the person applying for the license must submit two photographs of the person operating the salon. And that's important because you're dealing with hair and persons could damage your hair really severely where it takes a long time to regrow or may not even regrow. And then there are diseases that you find in the scalp and things like pitiracis capitus simplex. Pitiracis capitus simplex. That is the fine dandruff. You know when you comb your hair you get this fine dandruff
[00:34:27] Michelle Daniel: coming down
[00:34:29] Speaker 6: on your shoulder and so on. That happens sometimes due to poor diet especially when you have
[00:34:39] Speaker ?: you have
[00:34:39] Speaker 6: a death which in in fact and you say I'm here now and while on the shore I receive a phone call that God forbid that somebody in my family got in an accident and was knocked down. So when I receive that news what happens is that obviously my blood pressure don't go up.
[00:35:07] Michelle Daniel: Yes.
[00:35:07] Speaker 6: And then the blood pressure go up then scientifically everything in the it affects everything in the body and because the blood pressure go in there it put me under stress and that is so then you get this fine dandruff coming down on the shoulder. So the hairdressing need to understand that and need to know how to treat it and even then they discover it. there's also disease called teen ear capitis and teen ear fervorza and these would be a scalp a sort of dry scalp one is pink one is red and you and then you and the hairdresser must be able to detect these sort of conditions and when they detect these sort of conditions then they should not do your hair should not curl up and nose up your hair they need to refer you to a dermatologist or something so that you can get the scalp treated before you come back to get your hair done and that sort of thing going back to the photograph obviously you Michelle you you may have gone to school and Betty is in your class and Betty and you during school days had a little fight
[00:36:42] Speaker 2: you
[00:36:43] Speaker 6: know from your school when I led this agreement but then when you get a big adult 22 23 years old you see Betty in town and you tell you all exchange pleasant trees and you ask Betty what you doing now and Betty say well do you want to hear so long and you tell Betty well I'm a teacher and you decide you going to patronize Betty so long and when you in the chair Betty tell herself uh-huh you get and beat me when at school and show you something and then could damage your hair or even rub chemicals in the ice so that photograph that they have to submit allows allows us to pass on the photograph to the police even if the person runs to Australia New Zealand wherever we pass on that photograph to the police and then the people interpol interpol on the person so you see for a
[00:37:53] Michelle Daniel: chemical you mean like she's chemically burning the well you
[00:37:57] Speaker 6: know you know that as I said it may not be a chemical for your for your eyes the person know that Betty you know Betty Betty know you are coming so she may use a chemical that they don't even apply to the salon
[00:38:11] Michelle Daniel: gotcha right
[00:38:13] Speaker 6: because she remember when I had you fight and she being spiteful she decided that she's going to harm you so that what I'm actually saying is the picture that they have to the two photographs allow us to pass on the photograph if anything is done to the police so that that person could be traced or part of the world ago
[00:38:40] Michelle Daniel: and
[00:38:41] Speaker 6: the the light sun is between January and December and they must always renew and then when we visit Michelle when we visit the salon they shall have some sort of hot water either the solar water or the solar water heater or the normal electric heater to sterilize hot water sterilize the combs the brushes the rollers and must also be sterilized in barbie side so you shall not have the salon putting the rollers and the combs and so on from say your hair Michelle into my madam hair and so on vice versa because of course that is how the diseases could be the same pituitarsis capitis simplex tina fervosa tina capitis and dorsi diseases could be could be transferred and then they must you should always have on a gown and to protect the clothing they're in from you so they should have on a gown and there should always be a bin to place the hair that they're clipping the hair should not be blown around to get away from the salon and come in contact with some other person here and so on so there must be a refuse bin to collect the hair the towels should be stored neatly and cleaned into some cupboards and we visit those are looking at the walls we looking at the floors we looking at the we use the thermometer do testing for the water and we look at the chair we look sometimes we swab the hood that you put on to the hair you know to the dryer the dry hood right the hood so we do that to make sure that and I must say in all fairness when I was in environmental health I would do probably 20 salons sometimes before door shop
[00:41:15] Michelle Daniel: okay
[00:41:16] Speaker 6: yes the ladies really take pride the ladies really take pride in keeping the salons really nice and I always I used to teach and do a session with the medical students at the UWA and even with Ross and sometimes I turn up I turn up at the salon without calling and you know I could do that because I had full confidence in the operator the salon I know that when I turn up I will not be surprised is the
[00:42:02] Michelle Daniel: standard the same for men as women the barber is the same
[00:42:05] Speaker 6: yes men the same we they have to apply for the lesson the same way and we have to visit them just before I retired Eunice Gibson I remember signing off for a guy there in Bouchard Yard Yard Yard Yes and you should have running water as they say good lighting must have good lighting good ventilation good floors good walls and as they say the rollers and combs and all these things should sterilize in Barbies side and hot water and at least more than 4 degrees Fahrenheit do what hot water should be and we really didn't have many problems what we find out is as I said last time on the shore briefly one of my colleagues when I was at St. Philip he came across a salon dealing with waxing and that's what I like about environmental health you get to see new things and this is a business in St. George and I mean like a hospital really nice
[00:43:25] Speaker 2: and
[00:43:26] Speaker 6: the lady actually walked me and him through she studied in England and she actually walked me and the officer through the whole process of all the chemicals the different instruments and so on and what she does actually when we were there a lady turned up it was around Cropova and the lady turned up to have the hair removed from under her armpit and down in the area as you know what I mean yes right to remove so that when they put on the bikini and so around Cropova you will not have all that hair showing out and that was a new experience for us and this place was like a hospital really really nice and she was happy to explain and show us everything so I just wanted to mention those things especially persons who going to have tattoos done they need to be careful going to get your hair done well I know some persons go to a person's resident says that are not licensed
[00:44:40] Speaker 3: and
[00:44:41] Speaker 6: that is like not that I want to take bread out anybody mouth who have who are doing here as a resident because there are some persons doing here the residents are really nice but it is like you not catching a ZR that is legally loosened and you kept somebody who's doing pirating if that van get into an accident where you catch it doing pirating then the insurance will not cover you and you may have an injury that you're not being compensated for so what I'm saying if you go to a resident having hair then the chances are left with you I see
[00:45:29] Michelle Daniel: in there talking about lice like what do you do on a lice case you find pardon lice lice oh
[00:45:39] Speaker 6: lice yes right as I said what the person who doing the hair obviously is trained and they have to refer when you see the condition they would not treat do the hair wash the hair anything like that because they have examined the hair first before they do anything and they have to refer the person to a dermatologist who then will treat that person there is some antibiotics that the person use orally by mouth and also some creams that will help destroy the lice and so on and then probably about a month to six weeks after then the dermatologist then would decide whether or not that person could have the hair treated by the hairdresser
[00:46:37] Michelle Daniel: so
[00:46:41] Speaker 6: I hope that answer you're
[00:46:43] Michelle Daniel: they're discussing the lice and I noticed that like there are not a lot of cases of you know black us black people having it having lice versus you know someone else who has really dry hair because we use a lot of products and a lot of oils that we don't see lice in our hair is that true
[00:47:04] Speaker 6: well yeah that is true we haven't come across a lot of it I have only seen probably about two persons with the dry scalp sometimes also where you where you know you're lying down on a pillow and so on you need to wash you need to wash the pillow pretty often and sterilize it also you may be in a public transport bus and you rest back in the seat you rest back in the seat and then you pick it up from somebody who was in that vehicle prior to you and you rest back and that's how then you also come down with it and you may be wondering but I wash my hair do everything that's good but that's the area where you could actually pick it up
[00:48:03] Michelle Daniel: okay
[00:48:04] Speaker 6: and we would have seen it right um the health services human remains regulations um somebody called me last week and they were asking me what do they do if they have ash um you know a person would be cremated and you want the ashes disposed at sea and um you know the person need to apply to the chief medical officer for permission to have that ash disposed at sea because there is certain distance out in the sea that is required by law for that that um the ash to be dispersed in the sea so permission must be given by the chief medical officer um relative to the same ash and and when the ash come in from outside um and it come through the different places the inspector you know i had to sing and even myself had to sing um some of my officers to sign off on the to sign off on the ash from the post office before it is um is given by the post office personnel to the person and we have to sign off on it um in terms of the same health services and transportation human remains um i would have mentioned on a previous program that when i was at the vector control unit i would have inspected over 500 and something dead bodies that had to leave barbiers and go overseas over 500 and something um i would have seen the good the bad and the ugly so to speak with those 500 and something bodies i would have seen persons who commit so we say drink bromoxone i was seen persons who shot themselves commit so we saw you have see persons who hang themselves um persons who were on the sea dealing with drugs and they cause guy random and jump off the boat and and um and the the face hit on to the rocks in the sea and when i inspect could not um could not identify the face and i've seen a lady who was playing russian roulette and the gun went off and shot her and and she was fair skin um um you know and when i inspect the body half of the face was black like mine half was brown skin obviously when the bullet hit the head it caused a hemorrhaging and so on and i say that to say this um person have been asking me in those 500 and bodies the the the most a lot of them die it most mostly persons come in cruise ships and come in hotels and you know when these are some of them allow them to people who got money and when the doctor diagnosed cancer they tell themselves look when I got much longer to live let me enjoy some of my money and they come on a cruise and they die so when they die and say they die on the ship and the ship country where stone port the body then the inspectors would know that somebody will have died because when the we have a schedule of the itinerary with the ships coming in and when that ship is coming in it should only have one flight and that is the flight where the ship originate so when we look across the water we see two flags that is called a double Q flag it we know that somebody is dead so when we go and inspect the because the captain or the ship or the doctor on the ship must submit a certificate to us submit a certificate to us on the health status of the persons on the ship and then we were calling Dr. Singh who is the health doctor or was the health doctor when he was there he examines the body the goes to autopsy is done the relative of that deceased person is given about 16 from the homes to select from and say Lynnhurst gets the body Lynnhurst then collects the body from the hospital measures the body and they must get their job to build metal coughing out of sheet metal
[00:53:26] Michelle Daniel: wait a minute so in order for you to take your loved ones back while you you you're on a cruise the person family dies on the cruise and now the body is offloaded at the next port you can't return with the body
[00:53:42] Speaker 6: cannot return with the body the body that's a good comment and good observation yes the actually when the body is on sea and the day there's a mark at the bottom of the ship that you're placed in while the ship is traveling so when it gets into the port here in Bridgetown the port health as I said the inspector inspects the body the port health doctor who was doctor Singh examines the body the body is taken to hospital autopsy is done the body then goes to the frontal home that the family selects from the 16 different frontal home the frontal home general worker builds a metal coffin and the frontal home must apply to the chief medical officer for what's called a transit permit transit as you know means to move
[00:54:39] Michelle Daniel: right
[00:54:40] Speaker 6: and this transit permit will have on if the person say in England they have on England they have on the name of the deceased the age the date of birth where they die where stone port the rank profession if there was an engineer or teacher or whatever the cause of death and that's very important because the last person to look at the body would be me as the environmentalist and so I want to know what the person died from so when I get to the front of home I am given a package so I'm given the transit permit with the cause of death how the person is where the die and the body cannot be placed in that metal coffin until I get there and the reason for that is the easiest place to ship drugs now is with dead people
[00:55:39] Michelle Daniel: wire metal coffin
[00:55:41] Speaker 6: because that very good question that body is going on aircraft and you know body fluids should not be able to leak so that metal coughing the person cannot go in there until I get there or the officer looking at the body get there because when I sign off I have to sign off that that is the body in there and only the clothing is in that metal coffin so that body cannot go in there until I get there when I get there they ask me if to put the body in and you say yes the body is placed in there some silicone is placed around the edges of the metal coffin and then the covers put on and is ribbit on and I have to sign five documents that I have I'm satisfied with the embalming and it is that person in there only the clothing and to answer your question that metal coffin also go into a casket or into a plywood box
[00:56:57] Michelle Daniel: because
[00:56:59] Speaker 6: it's going on aircraft and you cannot have the leakage of any body fluids onto that aircraft because there's a disease called cruz well jacob disease cruz well jacob disease that you can contact by hauling the dead people the race of dead people and it's a form of mild cold disease a similar form of mild cold disease that interferes with your brain and make your brain spongy because mild cold disease is bovine spongy form insect phallopathy bovine mean like a spongy form means spongy insect phallopathy where affects the brain so the cruz well jacob disease is a similar condition so that is why and you know obviously you're going on an aircraft you will want to see a casket going out so what happens is that rain rain and the front of home put it up the metal coffin going to play robots on the casket and then some cardboard or card is covered so that when it's going up to the aircraft you do not even know that it is that body going out there because psychologically it will affect you psychologically so I would have seen over 500 persons all types of diseases but I want to send a warning to a lot of females I have seen a lot of breast cancers
[00:58:57] Speaker 2: in
[00:58:58] Speaker 6: the females so females need to really pay attention to the breast and that area I've seen a lot of it I actually went to inspect a body at a funeral home where I was called to inspect this body at 4 o'clock but when they got there it was about 3 30 and they were having a little funeral the body was going Guyana so I know they told me 4 o'clock back the family wanted to have a service here before the body when I got down at 3 30 to the funeral home I decided to go to Burstown to use the ATM and when I got back to the funeral home the service was finished it was about 5 past 4 and there was a whole lot of crying the lady sister was all up under the casket crying and doing the number and for her to stop the front of home had to tell her there is the inspector there and if you love your sister so much you need to really move away because you know if you don't move away then he won't be able to sign off for your sister to leave to go to Ghana and she had breast cancer and 41 years old I have seen persons actually died from COPD chronic obstructive pulmonary disease they actually smoke themselves to death smoking a lot of cigarette chain smoking so I have seen that I have seen breast cancer a lot of heart problems I would have seen a lot of cardiac problems in those 500 and something so those were the major diseases that I would have seen sending those bodies outside
[01:00:54] Michelle Daniel: is the same to receive a body
[01:00:56] Speaker 6: yes good question again actually my job at vector control was to look at bodies going out but I glad you mentioned that but the officers now at the the bridge town port and the airport those are the ones who are stationed there to receive the body and I glad you asked that because if the person coming in from outside don't have the proper documentation we send them back I know we have sent back our body to England and coincidentally the body we sent back to England was an environmental officer who left to England during nursing and died and came in and the body did not accompany the proper documentation wasn't accompanying the body and we sent that body back to England
[01:01:55] Michelle Daniel: I
[01:01:55] Speaker 6: know my aunt went to the Virgin Islands on a missionary crusade she was a Christian and well down there she died and when the body came into Barbaires because of technology I was called by my cousin and he I had to ask the officers to put a hole on it and you know with the faxing and the technology now you could get the documents now transferred within seconds to the Barbaires or any part of the world or not they would have sent her body back to the Virgin Islands
[01:02:36] Michelle Daniel: so
[01:02:37] Speaker 6: the officers receive the body I know that it is two minutes probably past
[01:02:47] Michelle Daniel: yes Mr. Gaskin now all this information I had some other questions because you know when you go to the barber and then you go to the hairdresser they operate differently you know like the clippers and and you know those devices you know men one come right behind another women usually I would say most of the time women get their hair washed
[01:03:08] Speaker 6: you know
[01:03:09] Michelle Daniel: and men just come in clip cut they you know their face
[01:03:13] Speaker 6: well yeah yes as I say the important thing is sterilizing so so
[01:03:20] Speaker ?: so
[01:03:20] Speaker 6: as soon as one person finish I have seen where the barber sterilize and wipe and clean the instrument with barbie side and you there must be a particular contact time at least five to ten minutes
[01:03:36] Michelle Daniel: okay
[01:03:36] Speaker 6: to allow the barbie side and so on to be on in on contact with the particular instrument to help a certain amount of period to kill the organism or the germs from that particular instrument
[01:03:51] Michelle Daniel: they have a question here for you hold on let me see before releasing a body to the funeral home inspector does anything to protect I don't understand what he's asking before body is released to the funeral home an inspector does what I guess that's what he's asking
[01:04:12] Speaker 6: okay to what what I'm saying is sorry
[01:04:17] Michelle Daniel: he's asking does it have to be present does inspector have to be present in order for the body to be released to the funeral home
[01:04:23] Speaker 6: no what happens is that the body leave say the hospital and go to the hospital
[01:04:30] Speaker 2: the
[01:04:31] Speaker 6: body you get the doctor trying to find out the autopsy what they die from and that's how the cause of death is generating when the frontal home get permission to collect the body we don't have to be there the body then leave the hospital and go to the frontal home and then it is embalm and we would have studied the embalming where you were at the barbers community college done our course you have went and visit the from the home and look at the embalming process and so on so when that body is finishing bam and they're ready now for shipment they make the contact with the airline to ship the body outside I come in at the last minute and when I go in I ask for the package so I'm given the transit permit the person age where they die from the age where they die even a photograph I'm given a picture of from the passport of the person and that's important because Michelle you'll be surprised to know that there's some parts of the world that you hear Mohammed Guru is the person that die but then when you go and inspect Moustap Karif is the body in the box so that is why I'm given a picture
[01:06:16] Michelle Daniel: of
[01:06:18] Speaker 6: the deceased to make sure it's that person who has died and as I said the body cannot be placed in that milk off until myself or the inspecting officer gets there and their answers then could they put the body in we say yes we stay right there watch the body going clothing going and when you talk about clothing if it's a cricketer obviously you may want the family may want a cricket bat or ball going and we could say no but I won't say no to that if the person was a boxer and you want the boxing gloves going because it was a boxer or cricketer or ball footballer so we stay up and watch all of that we stay up and watch the cover put on watch the silicone go right around and watch the ribbits going and watch the entire process and sign off and five documents of the same is signed and one is stuck to the box one is sent to the home overseas the ministry gets one the chief make officer and I obviously get one and the front of home keeps one so that's how the five distributed and the the the they actually sourced the paperwork really going on british areas or virgin or jet blue or whatever airline is going on so if the inspectors don't sign off then if that body leave barriers and go wherever they will get send back just like the question you asked if we at the airport and seaport receive a body and do have the documentation that we send it back
[01:08:12] Michelle Daniel: well thank you mr. gaskin thank you for for giving enlightening us on you know what what we should expect from the hair salon and the barbers what we should be looking for in there and human remains thank you for that our time time has come to an end and we look forward to hearing you again next week with some important information environmental information correct
[01:08:40] Speaker 6: it was my pleasure and have a very good evening to you your viewers and listeners
[01:08:45] Michelle Daniel: thank you so much mr. gaskin thank you
[01:08:47] Speaker 6: bye-bye
[01:08:48] Michelle Daniel: bye-bye well there you go mr. gaskin has more information on how body remains are received and are sent out of barbados and what you expect inside the hair salon and the barbers so thank you mr. gaskin for that are in the studio we have mr. victor lewis so let me bring him in mr. victor lewis how are you let me get your mic up i think i got it hold on oh i think you have to do that your mic turn your mic on
[01:09:30] Speaker 8: very good to go there i think
[01:09:34] Michelle Daniel: there you go there you go
[01:09:35] Speaker 8: there you go
[01:09:36] Michelle Daniel: thank you so much thank you for for coming out thank you for for being here thank you being such a steward of the nation tonight we are going to get an update on miss paulette reeves and her situation
[01:09:51] Speaker 8: precisely i don't know if you have sean in the studio also is he there
[01:09:57] Speaker 9: i'm here
[01:09:58] Speaker 8: mr lewis nice to
[01:10:11] Michelle Daniel: meet you nice to meet you and um yes and i'm you know i'm troubled by this whole situation i have been listening you know as a as you know as a listener and this whole situation is is devastating it doesn't matter whether you know who you are if you um you work hard you have property and um someone damages it they should pay for it you know so this situation we have to figure out last night we discussed with the young people because we need the young people to put this on their social media also to get the get the word out that um that we need justice for paulette
[01:10:50] Speaker 8: yes i would want a good night again to the loyal opposition and of course we you know as a as a member of the team we just want to keep them fully informed as to what's happening so i would have heard from sean today so i just want for sean to give us an update as to what transpired over the over the course of over the course of the day should i say so go ahead sean
[01:11:22] Speaker 9: well that's a good night again thank you for having me good night listeners viewers yeah um from our last conversation which would have been a week or two ago uh miss lewis i don't think anything has changed primarily because i think they're sticking to the fifteen thousand dollars and where where we want a completion where i think they are the stage where they just want to do a patch job now of a quick fix and then to send us on our way i think that is basically in a nutshell nothing has changed no compensation no no dialogue as in discussion at a table same well for my mom any uh compensation for health for our um disruption or daily living and that yeah it's just a quick fix now they're they're they're i don't take that bulging from fifteen thousand dollars you
[01:12:10] Speaker 8: you got any communication from anyone over the course of the day or did any memory of your family
[01:12:15] Speaker 9: yes from last um friday i would have spoke with joan what she's saying that um they would have taken she's that's what i was told that it would have taken um someone there of maybe some carpentry or engineer experience and he is saying that um from his observation that he's not seen a significant shift in the property so um he don't see the need that it need to pull down i'm thinking that's what he said yeah so
[01:12:42] Speaker 8: you know
[01:12:43] Speaker 9: so it's more like a
[01:12:44] Speaker 8: so you you know here we have grander phillips who is a very well experienced engineer who came to that job and did a very clinical analysis of what transpired there submitted his report and now we're having an individual going on site i mean with all due respect to that individual but you just can't go there really nearly you just open the door look in the house or walk out and think that you know nothing much you know we can get that fixed up you know how how can you how can you draw a comparison between a carpenter or engineer or regardless just going there and looking you know i don't know because we don't want to go back to that report again we would have been there many times but certainly when we look at that report we know very well the extent to which mr phillips went in order to show the people of barbarus how bad a job was done with respect to the attempts to repair paulette's house but i think that you received the call over the course of the day or some of your family received the call am i am i correct yes my mom told me she would have received
[01:14:15] Speaker 9: a call from the constituency um mp and he is he's asking her if she were willing to take twenty thousand dollars and and just call it a day he would try for twenty dollars though he would try for
[01:14:26] Speaker 8: twenty i should say yeah he he he would try for twenty ten thousand you know i want to ask myself where where where was there was one springer i mean this is going now this is going now nearly 16 12 and 6 nearly 18 months nearly 18 months since the the main 2025 and we're now in october soon into november nearly 18 months where was romell springer all the time you know why is he no coming over the dark why is he no reaching the stage where he he should have stepped out from the time of the incident and give paulette the type of representation that she should have gotten if romell springer had done that what is happening now certainly would not have happened put all the structures in place to ensure that the job is properly done it's simple but now after they would have brought two stock two or three storm carpenters to that site this is a poor job romell springer the world turned up 16 months after to say to the people about it it's not necessary to paulette but to the people of barbarus that they're gonna just want to push twenty thousand dollars i hope to push twenty thousand dollars in the in the hands of paulet and her family you know and fly it away fly away in the wild west have mercy come on you know this is not a family this is not a family you know that it is at the mouth this is a family that we respect as one of the significant pillars in this country 75 years old significant contribution to the development of barbados i know romell springer is going to turn up after midnight to say he's going to offer 20 dollars now give me a break mr springer
[01:16:31] Michelle Daniel: go go ahead um michelle i just want to ask sean some things because you know i'm usually in the comments and i i just i just need to understand how and make this clear the the the the tractor leaves the road runs into your mother's home and then what happens like right after that what happens that is like a motor vehicle accident so you do you know who the insurer is do you know who the driver is you know we start there like how fast was it going what caused the vehicle to to leave the road in the first place you know we start with the very you know the very investigation correct so we were never given a full
[01:17:15] Speaker 9: explanation um for how it happened on to this day um thankfully that my mom still survived that because she was right in the front house with that massive size of tractor as you go could have pushed on the entire house from the from the looks of the size of the iron tractor um yeah she was taken to the to the emergency unit where she undergo a few treatments and and then was discharged and that was it and from there until now we're just having the push around no no closure you don't even know the name of the driver no not to know we got to the tiny contractors and cumplan is responsible for having them here
[01:17:55] Michelle Daniel: to somewhat yeah wow i i see i see that's where the problem starts the problem starts from the very
[01:18:02] Speaker 9: beginning you don't know what you don't know yeah so they would have gotten a a few carpenters to a little patch job and if i tell you it's very shabby now the termites is taking over the property and it's just
[01:18:17] Speaker 8: getting worse as the day goes by but i want i want to say to mrs springer that the grace family is not responsible for the 47 000 that was wasted in seeking to restore that house they're not responsible
[01:18:34] Speaker 9: for that no uh mr lewis it was 30 000 they they say but then when we take our contractor the contractor says no way 30 000 were spent here from his um experience in the construction world but um yeah so they're based on that they spend that and then they just want to close off the deal with 15 000 or more because we're being told by miss donna and there's a ryan that's saying that look this is what they're offering and it's like i'll tell you they actually we had a meeting and mr lewis was there they didn't want to miss lewis to um to intervene in a part of the meeting and then they left on high horses and this term off because the contractor's sticking by his price to fix the place for 47 000 dollars though which is going to fix it properly but they're they're they're not bulging on that this is over cost sean let me ask you this uh you your car gets into a car
[01:19:26] Michelle Daniel: accident and it needs repairing you don't get to choose who repairs it i mean you you that i don't understand that like the person that caused the accident should not be the one fixing your your
[01:19:43] Speaker 9: correct you you you normally take your car to a body work of your choice of your choice exactly right now so but you know so that is why and it's so unfortunate my mom was asked to go get an engineer which she had to pay for a pocket which mr um granville um um did yeah yeah he did make the assessment then we were told to get a contractor which we got to pay again and then now the the contractor submit a course a quote and they're saying that it's too high so yeah so they just they just have us in the backbone and it's becoming heavily frustrated now my mom is at a peak of frustration you know she want to move back in our home enjoy whatever time she have left thankfully but um yeah they're not making it any easier for us but you know i would like to i would
[01:20:33] Speaker 8: like to ask mr springer though michelle i would like mr spring to answer this question who's responsible for the thirty thousand dollars wasted in seeking to repair that that house you know the grace family is not responsible for that certainly not you know so you cannot bring in people who are incompetent to perform a task such as that and i don't know who is this individual with all due respect to him if he can just walk onto the site and just say you know nothing much here just a little shift i can sort that out you know that is going to make matters worse and let me just warn mr springer now we are up front because this is no longer a matter for paulet graves this now is a national issue because we spoke on this last night relative to the perceived strain of what's happening in this country and we cannot afford to allow this incident to just be wiped under the carpet by twenty dollars being asked by by by by mr springer mr springer is that representation no this is this is what this is what claudic need claudic needs her house repaired properly and actual fact now to be sanctioned by mr phillips yes this project is now completed you can move in we want to know that she's being compensated for accommodation over 16 months and not a saint not a breadfruit and for her injuries and to make it even worse all the mental suffering that she has been subjected to for this period of time in addition to that claudic had no right to be pulling up that little water pistol that she has her little piggy bank to empty seven hundred dollars into the hands of any engineer with all due respect to mr phillips she should be refunded that seven hundred dollars because she's not level she had to go and prove you know as i said before i blame i will see that that project was done poorly and everything that mr
[01:22:56] Michelle Daniel: phillips said in his report poor workmanship someone is that sorry someone is asking yeah were the police
[01:23:05] Speaker 8: involved that is not a matter for the police upfront that's not a matter for the police no it's not a matter for the police but it was a vehicle it was a motor vehicle no it's not a matter for the police okay right it's not a matter for the police because you know this is what you call malicious damage malicious damage it wasn't willful the gentleman behind the tractor didn't just decide to bring the tractor down the hill and run into the house it was malicious because of the state of the tractor whether it is road worthy or not that's why they asked the question are these vehicles that we have in this country coming from the chinese are they road worthy what are the competency levels of the safety standards of this construction firm those are the questions that need to be asked because they are now working in foster hall st joseph and then they can go foster hall st john and all up to mary lane corner and there will be traversing between individuals i want to know that we bring some kind of you know ventilation to these issues now that people are clear when something of any similar nature occurs they know very well that we have set the standards and we know what we have to it cannot be any mediocrity now and miss miss miss miss miss springer there will be no mediocrity
[01:24:50] Michelle Daniel: so what what is next like what is next you you don't accept this offer and i don't mean for you to be out you know like on air making these decisions i'm just saying you you know scenario you don't accept the offer what do you do next
[01:25:08] Speaker 8: miss michelle this this matter is a national matter yes sir it has become one now i will be calling upon janine for her crew for her team yes to support this 75 year old widow and her family i spoke to dr allen and we will be taking issue with it if it has to become more political and deeply political we will go that direction there's no question about it i have very big difficulty with the people of barbados having to be mobilized for an issue such as this you cannot be so right and yet so wrong
[01:25:56] Michelle Daniel: i'm i'm i'm i'm i'm still i'm still baffled that you have no paperwork on who on who you know no no no
[01:26:04] Speaker 8: no no no no no michelle don't get confused there don't get confused because we heard we heard i heard might be a bit of ambiguous term now or word is the case maybe you know but the chinese firm has been contracted by the government of barbados yes to do road repairs in the scotland district that's a given they've been contracted they have to operate within certain policies certain guidelines within this country so the ministry of transport and works but in terms of any works done in this country on the roads of barbados the ministry of transport and works so it's it's a joint effort between the government of barbados and this chinese firm so we we we we can't say we don't know who's responsible it is complaint
[01:27:08] Michelle Daniel: understood understood the question is is court like what about court that's a question here what about
[01:27:18] Speaker 8: court going to court yes well you know there was this gentleman from um from
[01:27:31] Michelle Daniel: the north who he had to pull out his biggest gun yes yes i remember it and fired right i don't know how
[01:27:45] Speaker 8: equipped the graves family uh to pull out their biggest gun they've already pulled out a little water pistol and all could have fallen out of it is 700 for mr phillips yes the government of barbados in representing the people of barbados must stand up and represent the grace family and that comes via the representative for saint joseph mr roman spinger and he the liaison with the ministry of transport and works or in my opinion the ministry of foreign affairs because of course it's a chinese firm working here in barbados so there must be representation at that level so we don't need we don't need now to pull a lawyer to say we are going to court you know if it has to reach that level certainly we will sure but give me a break and i ask the very rhetorical question again how could we be so right as a citizen in this country and i've got to go to those ends in order to see justice why is it that a 75 year old lady in this country in order for her to see justice in this country to be subjected to a further indictment on her family to go into the piggy bank that is practically empty to put money to pay hope she's right she cannot draw the biggest gun so that's where we are so it's a no it's no matter for the government of barbarus to stand up and represent his people as i said before um michelle yeah it could be me it could be me tomorrow
[01:29:45] Michelle Daniel: this well this could be this could be any of us i mean you know they slow the government slow walks everything so this could be any any one of us in reference to uh you you hit a pothole and and damage your tire and and you know the card you know you dispose of the car before you get your money
[01:30:02] Speaker 8: for the tire you know you know you know it is interesting that you said that you know because when i recall what uh maxine said last night maxine said you know i i stumbled and four weeks after my ankles start to swell is there a relationship between that stumble and the swollen ankle yeah the doctor would say of course yes just give me history just talk to me as to what occurred over the past few weeks and i don't know how christina heinz can say within herself that there were no injuries in the last crane you know all those things and it really bothers me how how you know intelligent people in this country can make such statements in addition to that called form plan marine plan and trained eloquent and well experienced people making such unfortunate statements they can't afford to do that we are we we are we being driven to other people are the chinese going to come here to this country and control us and i know i know michelle i know you know i mean i may be aware of a few things you know but this is the same chinese government that said they don't have they don't have money to repair the breakaway that leads from foster house and john to foster house and joseph so that the people of barbados would have been able to instead of coming all over edge cliffs to come all back down border to reach the discourse world they would have just come to the breakaway the chinese said we don't have money to do that so they want to come here save a lot spend a little yes at our expense can't work according to my good friend the prime minister that's not about here
[01:32:04] Michelle Daniel: they must be the people and be counted because today it's uh paulette greaves and tomorrow it's you it's you so we all have to stand behind sean and his family because this this is forget about even you know just in general this is this is a situation that you would think that it was um just clear clear cut you know the tractor hit the house put it back you know you want to be made whole you don't want patches you want to be made whole the house wasn't leaning before the tractor hit the house the house
[01:32:44] Speaker 8: to be backed exactly you see you see a governor's sheet you know i don't know if uh david around you know what you can pull those you know photos but when you go back to the photos that you saw of the house and you see a galvanized sheet i mean i mean that was even so disappointing to me you know i mean there's some things that you may do you may you may go and instead of putting in a six penny meal you put in a penny meal nobody don't know you know that you know but when you go and look at the the the the roof of a house and you see a governor's sheet put on and and and it's twisted you know and at one end you have two inches and the next end you have eight inches you know and everything just not warped i mean because you want it worse than that that's what they call a storm carpenter just nail on the sheet so the water don't come in full stop has nothing to do with aesthetics so no one came did an
[01:33:37] Michelle Daniel: inspection after the fact the biggest problem is we are listening to this we're all listening and we all want want want this to be resolved but we just we we we just can't grip what they you know like what they
[01:33:59] Speaker 8: don't see that we see we know the chinese no the the chinese appear to be controlled government but i mean i thought that you i thought that you would have raised that a long time gotcha gotcha that is why katrina hayes came out and said you know there were no injuries how in the world i i don't know if she's a medical doctor including a short space of time there were no injuries how could you do that you can't if she had said it was reported to me fine you're reporting on behalf of what some person that said but you can't come and make a statement there were no injuries have mercy man you know so it appears as though the chinese government is controlling the people of barbara it appears so to me
[01:34:49] Michelle Daniel: it appears that a lot of things it appears at this point a lot of things just don't just don't make you know just doesn't make logical logical you know things left left um incomplete unresolved uh there's a lot of that going around there's a lot of that going around well sean um i i i i don't like i'm looking at the uh comments in in you know because everyone is is perplexed everyone's perplexed about about this situation and um i don't i don't even know what to tell you right now honestly um we we as the people are are 100 supporting this because like i said today it's it's paulette tomorrow it's um it's someone else it's it's one of us so we we cannot leave you and your family hanging in this situation and

[01:53:08] Michelle Daniel: no it's not you she may have to go out i don't know or right at the very bottom of the screen you should see the the little microphone
[01:53:16] Speaker 11: okay here we go i i know that's derrick that's derrick jinx in my mind i am fine i am fine thank you and i i trust you had a
[01:53:30] Speaker ?: a productive
[01:53:30] Speaker 11: period in canada because i if i remember you were i suppose among other things to be doing some research am i correct
[01:53:40] Speaker 10: yes you were you are correct of course you know the research doesn't go very well i was so happy i enjoy myself that the research get the back back to the back burner but let me get back
[01:53:52] Speaker ?: okay okay
[01:53:52] Speaker 11: don't blame the research blend yourself you you have a nice long
[01:53:58] Speaker 10: responsibility for it
[01:54:00] Speaker ?: okay
[01:54:00] Speaker 10: you know you it's it's uh i was about three hours away from the airport and i've been what was considered a country district okay all right and right for me to do research um but i had such a wonderful time up there um i went to niagara falls you drove down to niagara falls until the train and so on so i had a wonderful time and my research became secondary in trying to to to build relationships with barbados in canada and to connect with what we are about what we are about and trying to get people aware of the situation in this this country called barbados uh people are are only see the international information that flows about our government and our prime minister and when you get at a personal level to tell people what the reality is they are astounded at the extent of which the international picture portrays everything is all right and the reality is that here in barbados nothing is right everything in barbados is wrong and it's i was so happy to be able to tell people in canada that what they see um as the image portrayed by the prime minister is everything else but the truth i'm not calling her a liar i'm not calling her a liar but i'm saying that i don't believe nothing she says
[01:55:30] Speaker 11: well the reality is that the the the the the song they are equated to soundbikes when you think about it i mean a speech in an international forum does not address domestic issues for the most part and certainly not what is what is the experience of a lot of barbarians and and i think that is that is something that people get to understand it in conversations or if they follow local news or read the newspaper because you know as i said you you have a 10 15 20 minutes half now even an hour exchange but there are people who are living with the reality 24 7 the matter that michelle was addressing with victor just now where the government seems certainly i have not heard and then if i am wrong somebody could correct me the government has not had or there's no indication let me put it that way that the government has intervened on behalf of that unfortunate lady with that incident because at the end of the spring is it for is in saint joseph um
[01:56:46] Michelle Daniel: yeah saint joseph that's where the um the the track that left the road and went into
[01:56:54] Speaker 10: there was an earlier my son in saint thomas that the same thing happened and nothing was done to do with it
[01:57:02] Speaker 11: disappearing on your screen you're gone in a corner
[01:57:06] Speaker 10: sorry there you go i just i was trying to get the glare out of my eyes sorry i understand
[01:57:12] Speaker 11: but that's that's the reflection i don't know is it when you finish you would you would look at the delights but not to worry of your your your surroundings but that's okay yeah i have the problem sometimes in fact in mine the angle that i'm at is i'm on my tablet because i still have to figure out what's happening in my computer so it is some time ish when it comes to my speakers my mic
[01:57:41] Speaker 10: but martin and uh i've i've heard that this is not his first situation these people have been here and something has happened down in somewhere in pori spring where something broke down um something happened down i remember when we were in the by election in saint james north a truck that belonged to the chinese world down the hill and lick down everybody i don't know what the situation was with those that family but when i went to a meeting last night in saint joseph and this mother was raised and the situation is that this woman has had no recourse she had not had no response by anybody and this cannot be fair you're sitting down your house and somebody come and lick down the house and you and everybody and then nobody responds this is not the barbarous that we know the barbarous that we know the barbarous that we know is that the government and its officials whether it's welfare environment even the prime minister would be out saying no no no this lady needs and her family needs to be provided with all the beliefs or the perceptions that everything is going to be alright nothing has happened and that is a very sad day sad day when a woman's house can be disrupted and she dislocated and everything is wrong and there's no response at the state level something is wrong and i hope it has not to do with the relationship between our government and the chinese government or these companies i will hope i will hate sorry to believe that that is what is causing the issue but knowing me smartly i won't be surprised i'm sorry to say that but it's true i do not trust her as much as i can throw a boyfriend here to india i thought straight i can't have
[01:59:38] Michelle Daniel: well dr ali you know this weekend they were they were fitting fitting fitting fitting this weekend
[01:59:45] Speaker 10: lord lord listen listen i was so i did you watch the conference no no i i saw the the the the the the releases um when i see red i see danger so i conference with all red got me in trouble so i i know the devil is very right i know i know the right thing i'm a trade units and labor colors are red it's red sorry labor colors is great um But Ms. Molly in a clip I saw last week or before, say she may not have on a red top or red pants, but she even got the red in her socks, in her pants and in her bag. She is so red that she does not leave before she got in something red. And she ain't got it in the top or something, she got it somewhere on her person. And I know that that is a very dangerous statement. Because all Barbados is saying red. And it's not positive red. It's that thing wrong. Wrong, red and wrong, don't separate. Things in Barbados wrong, not red, wrong. The government is exposing a red thing about labor. And the worst things that are happening in Barbados is the labor. Things in Barbados wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, turning black in terms of death. And destruction. And I had a couple of issues here. I want to, before we forget, I went to Canada. You know I was in Canada last week. And I had opportunity to discuss with residents in Canada, Molly's visit to Canada. I don't know if Barbados knows, Miss Molly has been in Canada now three times in the last year and a half. And she met with Prime Minister Carney twice. And I read the extract from the Canada information agency saying that Canada did this and Canada did that and Canada provide aid for the region and so on. And the Prime Minister of Barbados in April or May last year visited Canada. So she met with some Barbados in Canada and said she met with some Barbarian man and some gentleman, I call him a bully name, who is head of the film production agency. I don't know what it's called, but she said so last year and she repeated the statement this year. And the statements were designed to portray a message to Barbados that her visits were about promoting this thing about film. And she had these meetings with this, I don't know the gentleman's name, I'm not calling it because the Prime Minister did not call his name. But in both meetings last year and this year, she mentioned this thing about films. And that her visit was to promote these things about films and we're getting the new avenues. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. And that was the message that was sent out that this is what our visits were about. But the truth is, a motivated party, they had a FET, $250 a plate. The Canadian Barbados have an annual ball, where they raise money at $250 a plate. This year it was $250, it was $200. Every year it keeps going up. And they're presenting awards, educating awards, the Barbados, and I laud them for that. But Mr. Morley right there with her, to get nothing, Morley Turner had a FET. And why nothing is wrong with that, don't give people impressions that she's right there and things are coming and we can get some aid from Canada. If we can get some cooperation, if we can get some cooperation, not about that, she went to the FET, because Morley life is about FET and FETting. And it upsets me that she could portray this image of doing discussions with the Prime Minister of Canada and this is what will be happening. Let's go back, let's stop and go back to the early days. Let's go back, let's talk and go back to the early days. Let's go back.

Let's go back to the early days.
[02:10:40] Speaker 11: Let's go back to the early days. Let's go back to the early days. Let's go back to the early days. I actually I put it.
[02:10:47] Michelle Daniel: I put this on your screen. Look. Okay.
[02:10:50] Speaker 10: Let's go back to the early days.
[02:10:54] Speaker 11: I'll come back to the new senator. I congratulate him. We know that they were trying to do this for a while. But I form and substance a whole set of things. And I wait to see his contribution. Because, you know, sometimes people get a little ahead of themselves. And can become. What's the word? Some things can sometimes work against you if you're not careful. Because it goes to your head. But, Derek, I want to come back to something. Now, I'm putting on my hat. As president of the UWI Alumni Association. With your permission and Michelle's permission. You didn't call anybody's name. But I will call some names. Because. There is a gentleman. Barbalian. Canadian. I guess you could describe him. His name is Mr. Cameron Bailey. Who has made a mark internationally and certainly in Canada. The last I knew of Mr. Bailey. And he would have been CEO of the Toronto Independent Film Festival. And I was, as you were speaking, I went and I went to see, you know, if he was still in that position. Or. And I wrote a couple words. Somebody described him in this way. They say that he wields massive cultural power in Canada. And then he has a sister who was very much involved. And I'm pleased to tell you that her name is Maxine. Not me. Maxine. And I raised this because only last week I had reason to speak. I was at the University Credit Union. And I met the Dean of the Faculty of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts. Dr. Dean, Professor David Akumbo. He's Kenyan. Yeah. And he is working as head of that program. And I raised this because if the prime minister is, or did, what did you say she did? That she was working on behalf of whatever. A critical area of need and support is the work of the Faculty of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts. And I, I propose to do this in the name, as I said, in my position as President Alumni Association. Because in my conversation with Dr. Akumbo, they need to, they need to build some serious networks. They need some serious support in terms of getting equipment. And I did promise him because he told me that one of the senior officers of, of the, you know, the campus told me should probably speak to me. Um, and I did promise him that I was going to make contact as far as possible with some philanthropists and people in the industry. And I say this because my interest in film grew because of three people, Marcy and Dave Weeks. That's right.
[02:14:33] Speaker ?: That's right.
[02:14:33] Speaker 10: That's right.
[02:14:34] Speaker 11: And a wonderful young man whose neighbor will not call on the show because he says, Mom, do not talk about me. And that was a distraction that I got when he was a little boy when I used to do brass tacks and so on. And he would get upset with me if I talked about my son, but in all seriousness, my son also studied film and he, he was in that program. Probably one of the early students in the program, because when, when the program was launched, she transferred from a program in management, which was my area.
[02:15:05] Speaker 10: And that's why he was doing it, but he was running from my mother.
[02:15:11] Speaker 11: I had long left university. I had long left teaching. I, if he, if he had stayed, he might have gotten some, some, well, he might have run from me then because he might not want me to look at his assignments or anything. Uh, because he might have told me that my information was. Yeah. I, I, I must say here, I am afraid to myself. I left teaching full time at Ewing Derrick in 1999. Yeah.
[02:15:39] Speaker 10: Yeah.
[02:15:40] Speaker 11: That's when I left teaching full time. That was a long time to do. I just see the, I know. Well, I, I am very serious because I listened carefully to you and my, my, my concern. And, and, and this is as relevant. Michelle is, is a Barbadia. I, I, I, I, when Marcia says Dublin's, I, I, I, I, I, I don't, I always find the title Dublin's in the diaspora kind of amusing. Cause. I don't know where she got that from, but, but all right, we sticking with it. But I think that there's, there is, there is significant opportunity to be realized and forced and built on when we engage the diaspora. And this is, I mean, we, we, you see, we hear a lot of talk and it, I, I, I'm going to try to tie it in with a number of comments that we, on my last. Um, on the program last time we were talking, I remember saying to Janine, um, that I feel that we need to do some serious monitoring and studies of what is happening to the graduates of our educational system, particularly our tertiary institutions. Um, and if we are talking about cultural studies and the orange economy, as we like to, you know, we use the labels, people working in cultural industries. Barbados community college has an excellent program. Um, the. Um, the university. Um, the university, West Indies also through the faculty that I just mentioned, cultural, creative and performing arts. They are doing some very interesting work, but how are we as a country realizing or converting that investment in those programs and education, those young people. Um, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the. And so I would have hoped, um, that the prime minister would, or can report that she has nailed down because he's not talking to me. Are you Derek, or, or anybody in that, in let's say in Toronto. Involving. Cause I presume that's who you are referring to. But I, I, even if she didn't meet with this particular gentleman and his sister, there are, um, movers and shakers in, in the film industry in Canada. I know.
[02:18:14] Speaker 10: But I see the prime minister. We went to Canada last year in April. Mm-hmm. I made the same statement she made this year.
[02:18:25] Speaker 11: Okay. So what I want her to do with that statement. It's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, and tell us, tell us what she has brought home in terms of tangibles. Now what I will do, and I, and I am committing here publicly on this show. As I said, I am not speaking as Maxine McLean, former minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade, or as Maxine McLean, a member of the loyal opposition and a frequent presenter on this program. I am speaking as president of the Alumni Association of the, the Barbados chapter, UWI Alumni Association Barbados chapter. And I, as I said, I committed to the Dean the other day and I, I am making it public now. I don't think he will have any objection that I certainly based on some of the issues that he says they need to tackle. I will make it my business to try to reach this person. Barbados is a very small place. And I have a, a very dear friend who grew up with these two people. So if I have to call on, on that gentleman to introduce me to them outside of whatever channels I can go officially, I will do that. Because I believe there, it is high time that when public officials step out of Barbados, especially the head of government, come home with something tangible.
[02:19:48] Speaker 10: You know, come home with something, go ahead, go ahead, go. Yes, Dr. D. Maxine, the, the, the guy who is in charge of some production and film is the Belgian.
[02:20:02] Speaker 11: Yes, his name is Cameron Bailey, CEO of the Toronto Independent Film Festival. His sister's name is Maxine Bailey. And she, as far as the executive director of the Canadian Film Centre, if she's still, that's the last position. I, or one of the positions I knew she had. Right.
[02:20:20] Speaker 10: Max, Molly, right up April last year. I made a statement that she had discussions with him. Okay. She come back and she gave a report after she went to the, the, the dinner. And said that she told the, um, prime minister of Canada that this, this guy is, is president of the film festival and all that. That's PR, but she brought back nothing.
[02:20:47] Speaker 11: Well, as you heard, I, I am, I am, I'm going to seek to do something for the university in my capacity as president alumni association.
[02:20:58] Speaker 10: I would, I would be grateful because that woman continues to, to traverse the universe. Like, like, like, like Star Trek. I, I, I, I come back and make statements that have.
[02:21:13] Speaker 11: I'm going to, I'm going to write that down Derek. She traverses the universe. Yeah. Like that, right.
[02:21:19] Speaker 10: I come back and make statements and people are gullible and listen to her and we get nothing. There's no commitment for the, whoever the, my name is. He instantly coming out next week and have a meeting with her. She instantly will be having some plans. Nothing. I don't even know she met with him or she just call his name. I didn't meet him with the prime minister of Canada. Oh, you know, that's all she did. Anyhow. That she had a connection with Molly continues to do that.
[02:22:02] Speaker 11: I, I, I, I, I think Michelle would agree with me that we, we, we have heard you loud and clear. And I hope both of you agree that it would make sense to me. But they normally have to not, not to follow up to do some introductions. Cause I'm not following up. I am not a public officer. I'm not a cabinet member. I'm not a member of the, of the, the, the, the prime minister's political party or even her friends networks or anything. But I am saying that hearing what you said, it reminded me that we have an institution. And, and, and while I am talking about UWI, part of our, I mean, their collaborations and students transfer from BCC to, to, to CAFL and so on, that their collaborations that are possible. But I will do that. I will also go a little bit further to tell you that we, cause I, you know, you've just started something. There is a young lady. Well, yeah, young lady, I'm sure she wouldn't mind me calling a young lady. Um, her name is Marietta Carter Narcisse. And I want you to flag that name. She is very much involved. What's your last name?
[02:23:19] Speaker 10: What's your last name? What's your last name?
[02:23:21] Speaker 11: Carter Narcisse. Okay. Carter is a hyphenated name. Her major name is Carter. Her Marie name is Narcisse. Um, and she has very much been involved in film. She is into makeup. She manages teams of persons who would be doing makeup for our film. Um, and she comes highly recommended, very experienced. And this is some only the other day. I heard a young person talking about, there was a workshop somewhere. And right away I came, I use her name because she has worked closely with Marcia as well. Yeah. And she has always expressed an interest in giving back. Um, I am sure she wouldn't mind me saying, um, in terms of her connection. Her grandfather would have been. Mm. Um, our, um, Mr. Sissnit, our super centenarian who lived 113.
[02:24:18] Speaker 10: Who lived in Brooklyn. I went church with him. Yeah. No, no, no.
[02:24:22] Speaker 11: No, not this one. He, he's passed. This is. Yeah. Not this recent time. Back in the day. Back in the day. Oh yeah. When he had, yes. Who, who played for his hundredth birthday or something like that. Right, right, right.
[02:24:35] Speaker 10: Back in the day. Back in the day. We had a big thing.
[02:24:38] Speaker 11: Yeah. Yeah. So no, but so the point I'm making is that. You just made me publicly share something I am working on. And that I've partly agreed to have done in, in, in this area. I don't make a song and dance about it because my thing is that we, we get a lot of long talk. And I'm not only beyond the prime minister and the politician. We get a lot of long talk from a lot of people, but when it comes to, to action, you know, so I, I just thought you just, you just triggered that in me. So as I say, Michelle, thanks a lot of me doing a little bit of PR work on behalf of the UWA Alumni Association. Um, because we go there and do things. We don't make a song and dance about it. But this just reminded me that what I want to do. And I will put timelines on these things. The academic year has just started on at the university. And I will do my best to make sure that before the end of the year, because we end in October now. And before the end of December, because you know, people, people in Barbados get caught up with Christmas and so on. So you have to do it between November, early December. I, it is my intention to make those connections. And I just share that with you, Derek. So that while some of us may be frustrated that we hear April last year and this year again, what I want to do is, having mentioned it here, the next time I report on this, I want to be able to say I have put those people in touch with one another. And these are some concrete things that are happening.
[02:26:18] Speaker 10: I want to say my thing is that I got more confidence that you would get sent in England than the nuisance called Molly. That's what I was about to say.
[02:26:27] Speaker 11: I'm getting more confidence that you would get sent in England. Derek, maybe this is the diplomacy that was instilled in me as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Fordran. I will call her Prime Minister Molly and leave it there. Leave it there. Leave for something. I don't know if you're ready, Karen. I will not tolerate anything else. That is my commitment to those persons who are in the discipline at the university and to the people who are looking to create opportunities. And that is one connection or one set of connections, or two sets, because I spoke of somebody in the US and somebody in Canada, a couple, you know, brother and sister in Canada. These are people who are in very critical places to be able to create and help build a network. So, Michelle, I hope that is useful, you know, given the frustration that Derek clearly experiences when he hears and when he has heard in the past comments from the Prime Minister.
[02:27:35] Speaker 10: I just want to say, Maxi, I am a graduate of the University of the West City, so I'm an alumni. And that's why you know that.
[02:27:43] Speaker 11: So you will be attending our next event. I will make sure to tell you.
[02:27:47] Speaker 10: Once you send me notice, I come in. All right, nice, sir. All right. So now the other thing I want, before I forget and get into my 9:30 coming up, I want to talk about the BSP conference. Why, sir? I don't know. I want to talk about it.
[02:28:10] Speaker ?: Why?
[02:28:11] Speaker 10: Why?
[02:28:12] Speaker ?: Why? Why?
[02:28:14] Speaker 10: Why? Why? Why? Why? the uh the uh um short man that look like she and i i i met erin said that she looked like he better i met her last week and i and i i'm saying i i want to say that i didn't i didn't want to correct that because he got better than a little less here you know what i'm saying that's why a friend of mine told me on social media i was not wrong marley looks like his brother not like marley's a man or anything but molly looks like that prime brother she looks at the game and so i just want to get that clear but i won't talk with the conference a report company conference the prime minister want to meet with the parties political parties the prime minister of barbados is reported to have said that she wanted me with all the political parties in barbados i know i didn't hear it but i i saw a report on the social media and people in the dlp have been saying don't meet with she and all sort of thing now i know i didn't ask permission for rap to speak on this matter and particularly did not call him but he and i went to the prime minister's office look that's it that's it that's it they say that no she look like his brother that's what i'm saying i ain't saying that she is he better i said she looked like his brother that's what i'm saying but i even a company on everybody who i've turned to the prime minister's office to discuss the appointment of the president of barbados i was just i was his executive assistant and he asked me to come along and i am asking for the permission to talk about it because i i don't i'm not bound by any allegiance to the crown or anything i i am speaking truth and after the the offer and the suggestions about and and and brother thorn without hesitation concurred with the appointment of brother boston president boston i mean without hesitation another name was put up and read and he dismissed it without even breathing and then said when she mentioned boston he said i am have no objection to president boston and so i i took a personal issue when the issue that happened with the appointment with the senators but that's a different matter i wrote to the president of barbados expressing my concerns about his behavior he did not honor me with a response of acknowledgement i sent a letter but i will leave it out whenever i meet him in person and if he walks in the room god is my judge i will not stand there and he says that i will not stand i don't care who vex i will not stand that if the president walking in the room is still seated any hope and the prime minister made a series of promises to the opposition additional staff a vehicle the transfer of the the whitney md subvention to the opposition the truth is that we were voted out there was no opposition shortly after january but if if those commitments were made then there should be a statement from the office of the prime minister saying that the new arrangement is that these things are no part and parcel of any opposition party elected to the the parliament and these are and she shall list them there's been molly has become silent on the commitments that she made at that meeting and there was a commitment to those things for the judges for the outgoing president and nothing nothing had been forthcoming since that meeting now you know that uh my my comrade wife would tell me man that my can't blame she by public so but the truth is the truth after all those discussions were better turning myself molly has reneged and disappeared and foregone and ignored and forgotten all those commitments she made at that meeting so what she won't meet with the office with the political parties to say no what is it that she can say to them she don't want me to the democratic party because every effort was made to ensure that raf torn did not ascend himself to the senate not i said himself was not ascended to the senate every effort and that's why i have no respect for the president and i don't care who got a problem with me i have a problem with him you can't erect the party and tell them that you invoking some section that allow the party with the next highest votes can have two people appointed and then when the people said it means you say no how dare you are you waiting for a pub i want public meeting again problem i can deal with the president i don't care who vex my mother who's a who's a monarchist and all day they could get vexed with me i don't deal with them things i deal i deal in a tradition on a concept uh without word of it i dealing with the facts of the matter and the and the departure for independence of the president the plan has not demonstrated that he's independent and if he's not independent i have no respect for him prince supposed to not have any that's what i love the former president and governor john barbades she did when they gave her that speech about last decade i know she barely hurt her to read that i know that she had tell me that but she did what was her duty she did was her duty the the the the tradition is that the government provides the throne speech and that the president or the governor general reads it and i know that her belly hurt her to read it but she did what was her cause because she remained independent she did not let any connections or any thoughts of connections to the dv confuse her she read what was her responsibility i know this gentleman started some program this president started some program don't you think something for do with a city president you don't know another represent the city you don't represent the city you are no the president of barbados any program you start gonna be barbados not the city or chackmillan or nelson street this man got no sense of protocol or respect for his office i i i came tonight to say that and i've said it and again no no and they say that so there's no need for any political party to meet with miss molly no need miss molly can say what she want to say promise heaven and the earth and deliver nothing because she her job is to ensure there's no opposition to her and they urge any party any group of individuals called a lot of people walking who called the same political parties and they noticed a rumor going wrong on the social media one the political party leaders on the ncf i don't know if it's true or not i do not know but all i say is all i say that people walking about calling the same political parties before the structure they're gonna president the secretary or the members that's what they say and the and the and the president appoint one of those people in a position the next thing is um cough the wallet the prime minister said that she tried to get coffee the wallet appointed in the senator as a senator and people objected objected but she she she she she she prevailed no you that that that's the top of a dictator even if it was the process that she followed was the right thing you can't bring back a mention of an effort to contravene the rules the constitution and said stop me there but i made sure i find a way to do it that's the language of a dictator that is that is i don't know wait wait wait wait journalists and the political scientists and barbarians don't call her out the prime minister oh i heard it on the way to sing and she quoted i think it's one uh jimmy cliff or something so that's a sad testimony of a leader that's a sick personality you can't do that even even if you you you you you know this prime minister announced senators and it didn't be agents and she had to put some people in definitely time being and then move a clause to get them citizens that prime minister did i know she come and tell barbarians when the law the law may have stopped me from appointing him as a sender but i prevail and i get here now that's a sick statement i don't know why babies don't understand the human being the dealer and we can be walking we walking along and accepting these things those are stupid the only definition trump is that trump is a man and she's a woman i'm basically are comfortable cursing trump until i accept everything this woman says her total behavior everything they don't have a problem with the ignorance and the foolish that she says and does but it can curse trump every every day that trump is an idiot trump dumpsy trump is a dictator and molly does the same thing and people feel comfortable accepting it miss allison will never ever accept it i don't care i come on this program every man that wants marcia allows me and i can speak my speech because if barbers don't wake up we can find this country in the cesspool of countries we can be the laughing stock of a republic that is worse than a banana we can be a guava or aki or dunks republic we ain't gonna be a banana a banana the right and succulent fruit we can be worse off and i don't care people can call me wicked and also i don't care molly is the nemesis for this country and all those people who walk over there hold their head in the laps and shout for molly they will learn in the long term sorry i got emotional but i was dealing with the and the conference the congress that visited on the barbados the requirement of the premises meet with political parties and the announcement that kaufner waller will now become a senator in spite of the fact that efforts were trying to stop her from doing it before that's my problem with it and i i i i'm not reneging on that that is a sad testimony for the office of prime minister that you can stay in public and says that you try to break the law and you could not get it in force but you still prevail all of a sudden i i don't know i don't i know with the lady trim i don't know where she got it i don't know what she called the fame but you know this prime minister got a pension of firing people
[02:41:54] Speaker 11: well she probably was warming warming decision to send it for senator kaufdawala yes that's what the prime minister say she sent him off to law school i am not quoting her exactly but that's the summary of her comment question yes she no the prime minister say she sent off coffee to law school you went to trinidad or jamaica whichever and so she's now sending miss trim uh senator trim until she she moved from there to be a diaspora something person in
[02:42:30] Speaker 10: like commissioner for diaspora i know what i mean you were foreign minister let me ask you a question you may have used to go to a diaspora conference yes of course i'm in a gathering we we come together
[02:42:49] Speaker 11: there the gathering has the gathering has what's the opposite together scatter the gathering has scattered but no perhaps perhaps i can share with our loyal opposition and whoever listens to this program because i am interested to see the numbers at the end of the day and the comments from people all over the world late prime minister david thompson having and i think part of it was driven by the the fact that he was born in in the in the diaspora he was born in the uk came to barbada as a child was very committed to engaging barbadians overseas and i recall in 2009-10 he talked about having a diaspora conference and i as i told somebody and and i recall prime minister thompson calling me from hospital in the u.s to ask me what was happening in relation to that first conference and my worst the prime minister thompson then was prime minister please rest assured that we will have that inaugural diaspora conference as promised in 2010 august because it came or just around the end of the crop over season could do just after could do it and we will have it and we will have it it will be successful and it was and it was supposed to be a biennial exercise so we had one in 2010 2012 2014 we had one in 2016 which coincide with our 50th anniversary of independence and i recall that we were planning i certainly in my office would have been planning for 2018 2018 and i can tell you that the 2018 would have been informed by discussions i had particularly with some young barbadians in washington dc and we were going to focus on health as the theme um and that was that was that was partly the thing as as a biennial conference the the other year in alternate years we had something called barbados comes to and we would have had engagements in in at least two or three cities in florida in um south carolina um and given the history there and the last one would have been in atlanta those things in in the usa and then we had events in canada unfortunately um some of the plans we had for for the uk didn't materialize in the same way but the the high commissioner would have done a whole set of work um but there were some you know there were some plans we had for the uk which um then as i said didn't materialize but i will write about that one there in in in another place where i can go into detail i wouldn't bother with that here so if if people want to understand how to build on on on a serious approach to the diaspora they can look and see what inform those activities um sad to say that what i see happening with the gatherings is that people gather to to party and that's fine but that cannot and ought not be uh in fact one in fact i will say this now that i really met marcia marcia weeks and davis at one of those conferences in the first instance and i can tell you one session for example in i think this might have been the 2012-14 conference um there were we had we had the business of film as one of the sessions at one of those conferences in another conference we had engagements with with members of the wider diaspora i remember having on a presentation a nigerian businessman um and as it turned out he was very well known he was a friend of a barbadian who had been the first black head of standard chartered bank in nigeria who is now our honorary council in atlanta um so there were some substantial things that came out of those conferences um and so when i went if if i could circle back there and and michelle and link it to my discussion as to what i want to do as president of the alumni association having participated in a very structured way in diasporic activities i can easily identify key resources in fact one of the things that came out of all of these and the late um high commissioner to canada um ambassador uh high commissioner sorry um evelyn graves he and the council general in miami late calling mirrors they would have worked on two public it well even worked on one in canada and worked alongside colin to produce one in america and i must pull them and and and capture the the the type the things and share with marcia and dave sometimes where i can speak about it they actually did two publications on barbadians living and past in the case of canada and i think the ones in the u.s would have been barbadians in the diaspora in the u.s so you have if somebody wanted to go and find some scientists or engineer or teacher of significance or just some ordinary barbarians in the diaspora they can look at those books as a reference for example and see the contribution of barbarians in the diaspora so what i can say derek is i can't tell you much about the gathering because the gathering seems to have scattered
[02:49:12] Speaker 10: but that's it that's the point what i mean it was always designed to use that spears money to spend on political propaganda for party said that's all it was and barbarians gotta be honest with themselves every month during the parish and the government organize 10 or 12 blp people and get the honors and no marcia mclean's the honored for going church at st stevens
[02:49:44] Speaker 11: you know what i'm saying marcia honored me this is marcia honored me by walking through st stevens graveyard i love you to reflect on my my maternal grandmother my maternal grandfather my uncle my brothers my father and then as i said i remember i said look my cousin there and marcia looked around thinking that it was a probably a person but it was a gravestone uh you ain't got no no no no you should get honor for that no i need no honor for that i i go to church to serve my lord and and and and it's a thing i grew up
[02:50:31] Speaker 10: on your honor because you had a dog you care that was the diaspora thing was more from all the gathering and it was yeah yeah i wonder for that all they say that you got you got i wrote tennis sing karaoke and and and and and unless a hundred thousand bibles dollars spent on that event and they just don't understand it that was a five thousand dollar event every month they took about a hundred thousand dollars they got the money hiding tourism in foreign trade all across the s they got an indian diaspora
[02:51:20] Speaker 11: fund the hiding every ministry any estimates that's like that's like the funding of of um carifesta because then you pulled up all the allocations there were millions of dollars allocated and you know
[02:51:38] Speaker 10: all over the estimates and no no no direct reference you can't go and see how much was spent on on the gallery and because it dispersed across all the ministries it it is it is sort of a level of prostitution that has never been seen in barbers before police and prostitution and and races of taxpayers money and barbers sit down and accept this kind of behavior and say nothing every month so what when they got on this year
[02:52:14] Speaker 11: derrick remember that last year september um and i i will have to go back to my notes to get the exact date the in meetings with barbadians in new york um around the time of the general assembly at the united nations the prime minister had promised a year of celebrations for our 60th anniversary yes and interestingly enough you promised a year and a month ago to have a year celebration but was it earlier this month or last month that i was saying about it
[02:52:55] Speaker 10: that's a lot of interest and attitude and projection on the 60th anniversary and they come out and tell barbina to send it to this look i said this is generally somebody i think he had two and something thousand dollars for that confusion we want if i could call any number god didn't see what happened i can i can say cost a million dollars nobody can tell me like i don't know but if the government uh i don't know if that's true i don't know if that's true because i can do that for nothing i can do that for kissy bears and i'm on gear
[02:53:44] Speaker 11: no i don't want you drinking more gifts but oh lord god
[02:53:52] Speaker 10: i've been real i've seen this government i've been ripping off
[02:53:56] Speaker 11: but you see there i think you know we are laughing and as i as we've said but what i what i really probably again as i as i listen to myself and yourself and michelle talking it would be useful perhaps to spend some time and you are prolific writers so two of us can have a conversation and you can you can do the work to do a comparison and a contrasting of what we sought to do and what we achieved for the 50th anniversary we had a year-long celebration and i was honored to have been the chair of that committee but that committee was not a group of political appointees or of minister government we had representatives in ministry education police all the key stakeholders we had the church we had young people all of that across the board and we sat down there was a secretary act headed by a permanent secretary and with a budget and all of these things and there were very clear deliverables and so on and and you can look at that and see what happened in fact in that year we we we did something which was a little unusual because we'd had to delay the barbados council so the in 2016 we had an event which went to atlanta i remember a number of business entities being there including i mean and this is not a promotion um the um what's it called it there's a center where they the um it will come a medical center but this was one which had an excellent reputation um you know um for persons who needed help in in in in in having giving birth and having babies and whatever else um fertility if one of those for the fertility center i'm trying to remember the name and i remember sitting and listening to one of the principles that that speak at that conference meeting with university professors and so on looking at issues i mean solid work with solid results you know and and and you hear about we're gonna have a year celebration and two months or a month and a half before independence day somebody's saying let me design get a logo going we had a logo competition we had a competition organized by an architect in the public service who headed the committee it wasn't politicians sitting down to decide on an independence monument and you know these were the kinds of serious things that would have been brought and all of this was was captured on a a a serious theme as to what it is you know we we were saying to barbarians as we approached 50 um and and and some very clear
[02:56:57] Speaker 10: outcomes but i suppose i could tell you what happening did lids thompson going to cayman islands to do harriet thompson to ambassador to ambassador she going here to do a presentation on 60 years of
[02:57:15] Speaker 11: independence oh is she going to do a presentation oh i thought she was being a scientist okay but
[02:57:20] Speaker 10: now i was i was wanting to do it our ambassador is going to a dash party i guess you know that's uh maxi you you just stay longer than me you know that's what he was yes of course you know that's party and a service of souls the ambassador is getting picked like and getting dash parties in barbados i tell you but when the storms and it's called a honorable miss miss miss uh what what owen calls she miss um oh going to do a presentation in kama islands i think on the 28th or something so
[02:58:03] Speaker 11: there are barbarians living in kama islands there's an association there so they probably would have invited and and and people should participate who invite you who who invite you derrick let me be diplomatic the tradition is that you are invited you i i i beg you be yourself wait of all the people in but there are two things there are several scenarios a request might be made for a specific person or a request would be made to government to send a representative to celebrate with a particular association so um or it may be a topic that they want somebody to speak on and then you identify the one best suited to speak on the the um but they didn't say one reverend they did not say the one
[02:59:02] Speaker 10: reverend she's not a reverend is she she might have studied i know she studied theology but anyhow i got invited to service and when i got there she was doing the presentation and they get back in the
[02:59:22] Speaker 11: care of my home derek let us let us let us let us speak on matters national i got invited to you forum
[02:59:33] Speaker 10: and when i got there she was presenting to the point i turned by my own home anyhow i just saying that we have activities for our 60th and one of the highlights is that harriet thompson is going to kill man islands to do a presentation i don't know what or why that's all i say i am not criticizing it i am not saying it right i'm not saying i'm giving a fact if the fact is that harriet thompson is going to kill man islands or is invited or had been invited or it may say to kill me to do a presentation for independent celebrations and i want
[03:00:16] Speaker 11: no way to kill man islands why not or orlando wait no no it is a question is a question of who who invited or whatever i don't know anyhow let us not speculate i i might see why is that because i want to introduce the
[03:00:39] Speaker 10: the issue of the airline visits that we set up that was okay greener that would not accident by me i would say that to see what is the connection that was your entree subject go ahead right right because we we spent over four million i can call any number it's called numbers a good numbers but if you don't give me the facts i i'm like since to call 10 million 20 million million 20 million 4 million or ten dollars on that flight from camera and it's the barbados a total disaster and they don't know it was the connection between this visit now and that airline business that that that that would take a run for 14 months that was a total disaster eight people but no airplane and the government is picking up the slack if the plane could hold 150 and they go and take repair for 140 and not a word in barbarians about it one way you listen they had a hundred billions that left here right the cameron islands why were barbarians gonna camera wait came on this what what was he thinking between a flight from barbarians to cameron islands why would i won't get here unless i got a girlfriend or cousin or aunt or family in cameron islands why would i get up cameras and not ain't got clothes or um black people gone by a brand when they take the tvs and they why would i get up and we spent a wash of money and no and nobody's help being held accountable for that way since nobody nobody nobody ain't get stay home nobody got for the prime minister has said absolutely nothing the minister tory has said absolutely nothing about it i want to introduce that cause i want to why is she going back to you what is the connection to cameron islands and a mistake that you're going to gonna is a no mistake
[03:02:56] Speaker 11: is camera that she's going to she ain't going to you know there you sent me you sent me searching for information as as you talked and i think i think this is one of the articles that i actually pull up here just now um and somebody from from the this article says these announcements will realize a 60 000 seat capacity increase of barbados and my question is of that 60 000 increase in capacity how many actual passengers came into barbados during that time how much did it cost us did we have to pay any of those um you know their arrangements where we pay funding to to the airlines in some there's a technical term they use that doesn't come to mind but i also remember because i remember sitting on this program derek and michelle and talking about this because i remember and i took his words down and i i was hoping i could have come across the article but the minister of tourism was talking about the population of barbadians in caymans and i smile because if you got 2000 you probably got a lot of people i know it's not so much about like you i call in numbers but i i am going to be generous and and so really and truly these are the things and and what is ironic is when we were challenging these decisions people sought to make it to be simply partisan political you know ranting and raving which is not true because when you do if you understand the industry or the issues that you're looking at and you understand them and you start to do some serious analysis you would recognize that the decision on the basis of the the the the base the key metrics that you use to analyze something did not make sense you know and so it really could not and and it just wasn't making sense but you know what we have to ask why did it why did they agree to that in the first place
[03:05:08] Speaker 10: and and that's why it raised the issue of the lecture okay and i want to know if there's a correlation a connection to do with the airline and this lecture and the connection i do not know i throw that out first because i was coming to this flight i was coming to this flight because the position is that some days eight people on the plane and we're paying for the empty spaces i know barbarian cable hit the body care that he said he says seven or eight hundred us dollars adamant that went on for one week or two weeks or three months and not a word said by any of the journalists in barbados not a question raised about that level of wastage and who was it supposed to benefit and what is the connection with mr henrietta what what of africa shaking maxi miss cantankerous thompson's going out the door lecture is she going to make appeasement what this about when she ain't going to orlando we should we got a big
[03:06:25] Speaker 11: big following derrick let me let me read this let me read this for you because i think i've you know this is an article um from barbados today published the 11th of may 2024 controversial cayman areas barbados which was subsidized by the government through the barbados tourism marketing inc btmi is to be axed just after the icc men's t20 cricket world cup the state-owned tourism market announced and australia launched amid much fanfare you know it goes on to say and somebody just take the article from the front of me it just disappeared for a minute but it was launched amid some oh yeah look the article comes back here launched amid much fanfare the service was the focus of sustained criticism in the british overseas territory after failing to attract significant passenger numbers so it wasn't only criticized it was criticized in the cayman islands as well um it says failing to attract despite being home to significant numbers of barbadian expatriate workers who traditionally had to transit to miami but that is not true because i remember i did a search to find out how many barbadians were resident in the cayman islands and i don't know what constitutes a significant number in the eyes of the writer because i actually was able to share a number if i knew we were speaking about this tonight i would have gone look for it but i can find it another night you know so the key thing is to realize that they were talking about local population because and even if there was a significant population how often does an individual who is working get to travel home you know so even if even if a couple bayerns got vacation every week you can it will not add up to any significant number of people in any
[03:08:37] Speaker 10: of people in the community they're going to be given the truth the truth the truth is that they came and i leave came and be a change living down there it was saying that we go home for easter christmas karduma maybe probably right if you rather think a service like that we would jump up on money because we could go as a group and the reducing cost of traveling it wasn't
[03:08:58] Speaker 2: and nobody we said nobody get lucky for that
[03:09:09] Speaker 10: molly should molly should be in a prison political prison for that she should be outing muskava or goodbye for somewhere in far east in a prison that she can't get by here that that is the that is one of the greatest example of wastage in the history of barbados
[03:09:33] Speaker 11: we need to add up those numbers derek you know because there's so many
[03:09:40] Speaker 10: like you you know if i if if if i had the authority money would be locked up for that alone i don't call anybody vaccines or i talk about that alone no maxi what was he thinking why would you start that what influenced that decision you remember you what what could encourage you to deal with 288 billions or 388 or 488 or 58 business living in cayman islands i as a vision why will i go to the camera so it's a two-way thing it's not only a one-way thing that camera is a one-can-one basically gonna have a reason because the flight will get full guide the other way so you mean flight coming down and bring it down let me say i heard some other people from camera like this and then it came back at the same people it's a charter yeah we need to know how much money was wasted massive so when i see liz thompson down there to address them i saw a connection there's got to be some connection why she why she picked him and islands
[03:11:00] Speaker 11: to go do a presentation i am here reading i'm here reading i'm trying to find some statistics on the um they said the largest numbers of expatriates living in the cayman islands hail from jamaica approximately 11 703 from jamaica the united kingdom 1 708 the philippines and these are probably people working in hotels and so on 4 119 indians 1 218. approximately 8 000 more residents are citizens of various countries and you don't ever see barbara the factor in india i saw a number we do not have 500 people something just now but i was trying to find i didn't want to um so you know
[03:11:53] Speaker 10: i listen i i i wanted to do a read this year must about about five months ago but there was no reason to just introduce it but we're now seeing liz thompson can't thank you just going there i find that there gonna be some reason why they picked cayman islands for her but you know the cayman islands
[03:12:17] Speaker 11: the total population of cayman islands is about on grand cayman if you go back to 2021 because this is i'm a little bit dated but grand cayman has about 67 493 and and uh cayman brock or little cayman has like 2100 so so you're talking about less than 70 000 or just around 70 000 people are together
[03:12:42] Speaker 10: let me say 100 000 okay why are they going to come to barbados they got sea and sand down there we ain't gonna fantastic pricing for shopping but what you also have to ask and what are the islands
[03:12:59] Speaker 11: are closer by offering what on more than what we have so so it just it just shows you that well let me let me let me not let me ask the question that's about it was it was it a recommendation coming from the technocrats or was it an instruction given by somebody buddy buddy buddy and that's why
[03:13:25] Speaker 10: he's the the the the bully the the second bully going out to do the lecture when it's a chair right don't play around there there is no distance between one and the other there is some connection between these two events i am going to buy you a ticket to go visit your friends and came i was independent i was dead first i would call you lord gala me first cantankerous your friend of mine frankie and may send me the ad showing me that she would let you to come up for independence i celebrate with her oh lord so i would give you okay my god will be vexing me oh my god so i mean yes come on i mean i think you're gonna laugh at these things or you're good crazy this is an exercise that nobody can explain why we was running an airline from cayman islands when you're around one from jamaica when you're around one from custom places white came in that might that has always been my question why was somebody is saying that approximately 222
[03:14:58] Speaker 11: barbados live in cayman islands there enough to fill a plane every week every flight
[03:15:05] Speaker 10: and what happened in here what my point is the flight coming down oh it's going back up i ain't gonna leave here to the cameras unless i got a family or a friend up there
[03:15:18] Speaker 11: i will never offer you a ticket to go anywhere anywhere again i offered you a ticket and you turn it down so i have michelle as a witness i am so i'm saying is that
[03:15:32] Speaker 10: 2026 they got independent thing up there
[03:15:39] Speaker 11: in all seriousness there's an association of barbarians in the cayman islands and i know that they have all in previous time invited people to come visit and you know so but i can send you um so that you can report back to the bar see if you know i have a girlfriend that lives in cayman islands
[03:16:00] Speaker 10: my friend clevisan who's director of youth affairs used to live in ken i'm gonna see his wife ricardo seeley when school of commerce to play hockey them and my friends harcourt listen all they live in cayman islands i'm a kemani in terms i have connections but why would i get it from here for this year's independent celebrations what happened up there liz thompson that would have it max max listen i say they say they may be laughing the thing but there needs to be investigation on that
[03:16:43] Speaker 11: whole airline and that was no i i agree with you i agree with you because as and that's why i emphasize from the article subsidized by the government through the btmi and the question is how much money would have gone because i think recent there was a recent news item where obviously the airline was satisfied that it didn't work out but they've got the support that they were supposed to get um and the question is how much money would have been the subsidy and and once we know that some then we can figure out what could be done without michelle we will not let you run into trouble with the
[03:17:21] Michelle Daniel: show i know that you have worked very hard and it's passed i don't i don't mind listening i don't mind listening but yes yes we are gonna wrap up yes and and believe it the listeners are on they're not they
[03:17:38] Speaker 10: have not disconnected they are on so i just want to close by saying that the prime minister's uh invitation for the political party to meet her she'll be met with all the political parties but tell me some more even to take that invitation that's my position do not entertain it she she does she's not a negotiating in good faith she will make empty promises and not fulfill them and that's the experience i've had as a member of the democratic labor party meeting with the prime minister to look at the contribution the roles and the needs of a political party and i and i challenged her or any of her acolytes to come in and and said i'm saying what he says not true uh she does not negotiate in good faith she does not discuss anything she just tells you what you want to hear and that's the end of the story all the other so the only political party that i know really not disrespecting nobody is the democrat labor party and i i'm a member of the executive and i'd be inviting i encourage my executive to tell molly put the invitation with the monkey put the nuts
[03:18:52] Speaker 11: all i was saying michelle yes is that i'm based on derek's experience and he did he did speak of of of him visiting as a company informer um leader the opposition mr thorne uh to meetings with the prime minister and experience is a serious teacher and so what he's saying is that you know his experience was we got a lot of talk and nothing happened what i want to end with as we as we move we move to end the month of october and we move into november um and we approach the 60th anniversary of independence and and i and of course now we have to add that there's the five the five that we add on and somebody's asking when we come 61 what is 61 or six or whatever but as we approach the 60th anniversary having participated in building diaspora relations i think that this is an important time that barbadians in several capacities recognize the importance of those networks and um i look forward derek derek is always in new york i was happy to see you went to canada he's supposed to do research um but he was doing research of another kind that would also inform his social um social i wasn't social socio-economic and socio-political realities of barbadians living in the diaspora good title we can do that they can do that work that not challenge yeah but i i really i really um hope that we will continue to do this marcia has reached out you are an example of giving back and and and sharing oh that's lovely i like the colors there yeah that's your work michelle yes yes so i i want to thank you um and marcia i suppose was trying to get some rest and we look forward to you continuing your beautiful work your music your art your artistry your your your technocrat technical sorry technocrat what you've been talking technocrats and public politicians your technical support that's the word i was
[03:21:15] Speaker 10: looking for and and you know you're very creative for having me let me tell you for having me and i am i'm available once you want me because i think that this sure is so much needed there are not words to see how how people are in barbarians are accepting you must be sure you have to find a way to hold off
[03:21:37] Speaker 11: and they can keep it on a tight ring
[03:21:44] Speaker 10: but i don't mind i don't like you get eccentric however it don't mean different i speak with my heart tell me my voice just only reflects with my voice and my heart tell me yeah well no thank you
[03:21:56] Speaker 11: thank you we are going out of a concern for country thanks again michelle
[03:22:00] Michelle Daniel: sorry so much no thank you uh miss maxine for your support thank you uh for all that you do for this country you know your wisdom your uh diplomacy you keep us in line we don't stray too far off thank you so much dr allen um thank you thank you for your citizenship thank you for uh being you being you yesterday we had a conversation about the voices and speaking you know what your values and you have done that uh for so many years and um i i thank you as a barbadian i thank you thank you so much okay thank you for having me have a good night all right good night good night everyone um good night barbados good night to the loyal opposition uh we we ran a little late tonight but uh you know we enjoy listening to dr allen aileen so um good night um we send y'all off with this song i'm asking anyone who wants to be in this anyone who wants to be in this video i would i would love to create a video for this song and i appreciate everyone who support me in this in this uh giving back something to barbados thank you so much
[03:23:28] Speaker ?: from the
[03:23:37] Speaker 3: from the days when we were searching for away to the freedom we can celebrate today to the struggle to the tears to the years god was with me wiping away our fears now we stand with our heads heads head high with our face reaching up to the sky what was planted by those who came before we will guide and we'll believe even more and when the road gets hard we remember we are with the strength of our people and the grace of the lord our end and start crying forever be our guide with god on our side we'll keep moving with the tide for the love of the land we hold it in our hand to every generation
[03:24:47] Speaker 7: our eyes and take our stand there is something in the spirit of the old
[03:25:05] Speaker 3: something deeper than the place we call home it's the rhythm in the heart of our song it's the knowing that together we belong oh we give thanks for the life we have known for the seeds that our ancestors saw and whatever tomorrow may bring we will walk with the faith of our king and when the road
