[0:00] Trump hit the campaign trail again today with a stop in Greenville, North Carolina, in support of Michael Watley, the Republican's nominee for a U.S. Senate seat. [0:09] It comes after the president's visit yesterday to Kansas, where he's stumped for incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall. [0:17] Kansas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932, but polls show the race between Marshall and Adam Hamilton, a Methodist pastor, is in a dead heat. [0:29] Prior to the president's rally, Hamilton's campaign released a video of him welcoming Trump to the state and telling the president he'd always be willing to sit down and have a civil conversation with him. [0:41] But the president took kind of a different tone, attacking Hamilton by making false and misleading claims about the pastor's support for migrants and transgender people. [0:53] You're telling me he lied. Yeah. Yeah, he lied. [0:55] He supports flooding Kansas with unvetted refugees who go around killing people literally for no reason. [1:04] And they come in. He says it's OK for people to come in from the most dangerous places on Earth. [1:12] They can pour into Kansas. Adam Hamilton used church dollars to fund anti-religious transgender activity activities. [1:22] I mean, and so he used a lot of church money to fund all of this transgender crap that you're reading about, who openly mocks Jesus and he openly mocks Jesus. [1:38] He promotes a document listing. One hundred and twenty five different genders. [1:43] But very importantly, Adam Hamilton, he so he donated a lot of money to all these people. [1:50] He didn't give me anything. He didn't give me any should have. [1:54] That would have been a wise thing to do, but he didn't because he's not for us. [1:58] He's not. He doesn't have our views. He doesn't have our values. [2:01] And he happens to be other than being a pastor. [2:04] He's a pastor, I guess, but he doesn't act like a pastor because his views aren't of a past. [2:09] Adam Hamilton wants to take away your guns. Roger was given a real I know the guy. [2:17] He's one of the he's a tough guy and all, but he's also high quality and he's a fine person. [2:23] And he was given a bum rap because he was mandated by law to request strongly money owed from patients. [2:30] You're not allowed not to do it. You have to by law go after those people. [2:34] And they made it like, oh, he was some kind of a Shylock type guy. [2:38] And if he didn't make these requests, he would be breaking the law. [2:42] He would have been breaking a very strong criminal law and he would be subject to criminal arrest and liability. [2:48] And he didn't do it. He has the law firm that did it. [2:50] I don't know what they did. They're probably tough, but they were mandated to be tough by the law. [2:55] And they gave him a bum rap. So I don't know if I should be saying it, but that's the way it is. [2:59] Roger, I have to tell it like it is. You got screwed with that stuff. [3:03] Yeah, you don't actually, Donald, say anything like it is. [3:06] You lie. Everything you said there, everything you said there was a lie. [3:12] And it has to be called everything you said there was a lie. [3:16] And all of those people listening, were they really stupid enough to believe every one of your lies? [3:23] I mean, I really don't believe they were. [3:25] I can't believe they were that dumb because everything you said there was a lie. [3:31] I know we get sort of numb about you lying every day, saying Russia's fine when one-year-old babies are being slaughtered in public parks in Ukraine because of your actions. [3:43] But you're just lying. And what you just said about Marshall, that's simply not true. [3:49] Marshall wasn't mandated to go after single mothers and have them thrown in jail. [3:56] Well, the Times reported last month that Marshall sued more than 700 patients, working Americans, for unpaid bills, which resulted in a lot of them being arrested and some going to jail. [4:14] A single mom and all of these lies about trans. [4:19] I mean, it's just like, how stupid do you think your supporters are? [4:26] And, Maura, speaking of stupid claims, Donald Trump goes around and makes a preposterously stupid claim that parents send their children to school and they come back with sex change operations. [4:47] And audiences applaud, like, oh, you're really telling them? [4:54] No, are people? No, I don't believe that Americans supporting Donald Trump are that stupid or that they're that stupid to believe that Marshall has to have single mothers arrested and thrown in jail for 50, 60, $70, like medical debts. [5:13] Since this year in 2026, when medical debts are skyrocketing, the cost of medicine is skyrocketing, Marshall throwing people in jail. [5:25] I mean, it's it's it's again. Yeah, it's preposterous. [5:29] But I guess they've become so numb to the media's, I guess, has become so numb by lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie, which we are just there that I guess they just let it go by because it's too tiring to tell the truth. [5:44] Yeah. Well, you know, when I was in Texas on assignment for The Times talking to voters, I actually spoke with a voter who told me about a conversation he had with his brother, who's a Trump supporter, about this, this lie that children are going to school and getting sex change operations. [6:04] And he said he recalled the conversation. And he said, I told my brother, your kids are in school. [6:10] You know, we don't even have books. Our schools are so underfunded. Think about this. Why are you believing this? [6:17] And so I think, you know, the fantastical nature of it is just about Donald Trump and what he's gotten away with. [6:24] But I just wanted to call out for a moment what we heard from the president just now. [6:29] He just used an anti-Semitic slur in that clip. I'm not going to repeat it here on air, but I just, you know, I think more and more this president is not only sounding out of touch, [6:41] but he sounds like an out of touch old man who is slipping into who he really is. [6:48] And that's not a pretty picture. He's spending the last days before the midterms and really what's turning out to be a really early lame duck season for him. [7:00] Essentially selling out our allies, okay, like Ukraine, causing more pain for the American people through ice, through diesel prices, through a war in Iran that he didn't have to begin after promising Americans he wasn't going to start foreign wars. [7:18] And he isn't even acknowledging the pain of Americans. Instead, he's out on the campaign trail in states the Republicans should have no problem winning using anti-Semitic slurs. [7:30] And so I think the only question in this midterm is, you know, and there is a serious question, I think, about the role of disinformation, you know, because that's a concern. [7:40] But the only question is how big the Democratic turnout is going to be and how big the turnout of Americans who aren't necessarily Democrats, but are in pain and are looking for someone to hear them is going to be. [7:55] So I think I think the Republicans are in are in bad shape. But what we just heard from the president offended me personally. [8:01] Yeah. I mean, first of all, you're right to call out the anti-Semitic slur. I assume it will be widely condemned today. [8:06] I think we're also see here its disinhibition from the president, perhaps. But it's also as a closing argument, guys. [8:12] I mean, it just shows the Republicans have nothing here. I mean, that they they're grasping at straws. [8:18] They're playing the trans card again, which was effective for them in 2024. Flat out lies here, but trying to stoke up that fear, those cultural issues, because they don't have a record to run on. [8:28] The only record they the only piece of legislation of any note that was passed during these two years of this Congress was the so-called one big, beautiful, beautiful bill that only helped the rich and hurt so many average Americans. [8:40] And we see Trump throwing things, stupid things out, like trying to rename New Mexico, new America again, because there's nothing of actual substance he can talk about. [8:50] And even Republicans that I speak to really wonder if he's doing more harm than hurt, than help in these campaign stops, particularly in red states here like Kansas, that they're deeply nervous about this. [9:02] This is a state unthinkable a few months ago, legitimately now in play. [9:06] Yeah. And of course, Karl Rove warned Republicans that Donald Trump should not go out because he was going to go out and say stupid things. [9:16] I don't think even Karl Rove realized that he was going to be talking about men's bodies as much as he is, as he has are or talking about a man's backside and obsessing over it for a week or talking about beautiful men, beautiful. [9:31] I don't think even Karl Rove saw that one coming. That wasn't on his bingo card, but he knew he would go out and tell a lot of stupid lies, like he said yesterday. [9:40] And I've got to say deeply offensive that he actually is attacking the pastor of the largest Methodist church in America who preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ. [9:49] If you listen to his sermons, if you listen to his sermons, that's what he does, which is the antithesis of what Donald Trump does every day when he lies about people, when he's angry, when he attacks other people, not not for political differences, but but just attacks him personally and spreads lies. [10:09] So it's it's it's it's really rich, Mika, that that that that this that this campaign is ending this way again with lies about trans kids being being like transitioned between third and fourth. [10:28] You know what? Between like this ad and shop class. [10:32] They take them in the back room and give them surgery. But do people really believe this? [10:36] Well, I'm afraid some people actually do that. He is the president of the United States using the power of the podium of his platform instead of a cult, a personality cult. [10:46] But he's the president of the United States and some will believe him. They will even at this point. [10:51] But I think the one thing that may change we shall see in the elections is that in his past campaigns, whether it be for midterms or for himself, for his own run for the presidency, is maybe some people. [11:03] And we know these people saw it as shtick like, oh, he doesn't mean it. [11:08] You know, he doesn't mean it. Well, in this Trump presidency, everything he has said and promised has come true. [11:17] And people now are hurting because of it. And they can't get to the hospital. [11:22] Hospitals have been shut down. They can't get their health care. [11:26] Women can't get life saving abortion care. [11:28] Women are stuck holding babies that are not alive in their stomachs for weeks and months and becoming sterilized because of what has happened under his policies and his connections and his decisions. [11:41] And people can't afford groceries. People can't afford houses. [11:45] People can't afford health insurance. [11:47] This is where we are now listening to that shtick. [11:50] And so I just wonder if it hits differently now. [11:54] Hey, it's Rachel.
