Craftsman Toys: DJS-BS01 Skybreaker Ultra Magnus Review

[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Hello everybody and welcome to another Transformers third party review. In today's video we're taking a look at the Craftsman Toys Skybreaker. And you know what? I posted up on social media that I love how this looks and feels and it really reminded me of the likes of Kang Toys and TFC. And I just realized that Craftsman Toys is co-branded. I never noticed the big TFC Toys logo up in the corner there. That'll explain a lot about this figure. So there we go. I'm not as observant as I used to be apparently. This is their take on Ultra Magnus. My box got a bit hoofed by mailman. So a brave soldier. So you can kind of see there's a little bit dented there but you get the idea of what is involved with this figure. We have Magnus there in a very kind of war within look and style. It's a good piece. It's not as heavy as some of the TFC pieces. TFC normally include a lot of kind of die cast. This one doesn't have a great deal but the plastic feel, the look, the handling, the joints, it's everything you would expect. And under the Craftsman Toys license, I believe all they've done prior to this is those legends for the Computrom. Unless I've missed some of their figures. But again, this is very similar to the likes of Bingo Toys as well. They're all kind of there or thereabouts. And what a time to be a Transformers fan. We are spoilt the choice. And here we have him out of his plastic prisoner. Firstly, some of the accessories. All right. So this is his hammer. Hammer of justice. Big. Love these kind of thrusters. So thrust the hammer forward. It's actually a lot of weight to this. Again, that's a very kind of flexible plastic. It's solid enough, the sort of thing you would normally get for a display stand. That sort of look and feel. We get his gun. Again, as you would expect. We get an instruction booklet. Again, with the obvious TFC logo on there. And then we get Magnus himself. And here we have him on the turntable. And he is ruddy glorious, isn't he? What a good looking piece of Magnus. Ticks. Ticks all of those boxes really. Almost got kind of like a car bot or card bot kind of look and feel to him as well. But this has got me excited for what else that's going to do. One of my biggest regrets of all time was selling on the TFC Prime. That was a fantastic Nucleon Quest or whatever. I can't remember what they called it. But it's the one with the rocket and everything like that. But that. And then we had the War Within Prime as well. I sold that on. Oh, needs must. You know, I'm an adult. Sometimes we have huge basement renovations to pay for because our basement leaked and flooded during the horrible weather we've had here recently in Edmonton. And that is an expensive repair, unfortunately, especially when you find a huge crack going down from one of the windows that was covered up by the previous owners. But anyway, I'm digressing. Magnus is ruddy gorgeous. Let's zoom in and take a closer look. I'm going to start off with what I feel in my opinion is probably one of the weakest parts of Magnus. And that's just the head sculpt. Something's a little bit off. Maybe it's because it sunk so low. And those shoulders, I don't know, just something a little bit, a little bit lackluster going on there. Now, obviously, we can light up the eyes. I don't ever put batteries in these. I think we should be able to get some light piping behind there as well just to kind of get a little bit light through because there is some nice translucent kind of plastic here, but it doesn't really catch as well as it should. But I love these big cannons on the shoulders. Look at these. Look, I love the kind of automotive technology. Do you remember that? Just a nice looking piece. Let's take a look at the articulation up, down, left and right, round, side to side. Everything goes as it should. Everything's nice and stiff. Rotation. Not one. Two bends on the elbows. Fully articulated hands, as you would expect. Waist does, in fact, have a rotation and an abdominal crunch as well. We have hip skirts to the front sides and a kind of a butt panel, I guess, which does allow us to bring the legs all the way forwards. Really nice strong joints there. All the way back. Now to the side. No real hindrance there whatsoever. Upper thigh rotation. Single jointed bend on that knee. You can untap the knee to bring up the secondary joint, but it's not the cleanest of secondary joints. It does kind of look like it's been popped out. There it is. But pop that back in. Still got that off. Still got more than enough range there. We've got rotation. We've got some up and down motion on those feet as well. I would like a little bit left and right motion. I'm wondering if they could have put a joint just on this section here. That's a static joint here. A piece of plastic. I wonder if I could have put a pivot on there. Then we could have got left and right on here as well. But the wheels do flip around, so we've got space. Got a really nice, big, sturdy joint there. Yeah, just not quite as much range on there as I would have liked. But there is articulation. It's not necessarily the most flexible of people. But things like the abdominal crunchers, the abs side to side, that's becoming almost like the norm now, which is great. You know, it can really help. Add a bit more of a natural pose when you've got your figures kind of all alongside. Just a little bit of turn, add a little bit of a twist on the legs, tilt on the ankle. Really can make the world of difference, can't it? We can bring this section up. And again, look at that automorph. Look, whoop. Love that. The Matrix of Leadership for the like 10 seconds that he owned it. I don't know. Did he own it for longer in any of the comics or any of the lore? I don't know. I think he was a bit robbed, wasn't he? I'm sure he would have done a good job had he been given an opportunity and not hung drawn quartered by the sweeps. But, oh, very nice. Give you an idea of how he looks alongside some other Magni. We have the Funz toys. X-Trans bot and, of course, the animated take on Magnus. Very, very much in keeping with the color scheme. A very different style, of course. But, that's a good looking Magnus. Like I said, something just about the head. Not really appealing to me. But that, I can maybe make my own. I don't know. It's such a good looking figure. I wouldn't necessarily write it off. Just because I'm not a fan of how the face looks. And just because these guys all kind of sport that slightly different aesthetic. The 01 Studios have kind of gone for a more realistic take, I guess, on their Devastator and Bingo toys. It's very much in keeping with what Craftmen are doing. With this kind of Cybertronian. Almost like what Iron Factory offered us for years in the Legends scale. With that kind of War Within, War for Cybertron, that style. But now they're master piecing them. And Craftmen and Bingo, I think they look really good together. Now something I would just like to point out before we get him transformed up. You are meant to get an alternative face with him. This was a pre-production sample. Hence, I think the box was battered and smashed. But we didn't get that alternative face. I didn't get a collector's card either. I'm not sure if I was meant to get one of those. I've been advised that you need the CR927s. You need one of those for the head. And the Matrix of Leadership also lights up. That is an AG1 or an LR621. You'll need two of those. And they are done using that magnetic touch. And if we look at the top of the gun, this is where the magnet is. It's in that section of the gun. So you can tap that on those. We also have more CR927s. You need one of those per shoulder cannon. They also light up. So yeah, I've maimed about this before. I've maimed about it again. I ordered so many batteries. And every single figure you get come through has different styles. So check in the description below. I'll include exactly what's needed for this. If you want to have batteries and have yours light up. I would like to just show you these though. So this is... Oh, look at that, see? I'm not sure I like the tampo printing. Again, that's something that TFC has done for quite a while. I know that people like Fan's hobby are now stopping with the tampo printing. They think they've just done the first of the monster bots reissued without any of those tampos on. I think people just want to add their own kind of stickers to it, don't they? But it's a really good looking Magnus, isn't it? I'm rabbiting on. Let's get him transformed up into his kind of a carrier mode, I guess. And let's see how good he is in his vehicle form. Right. Let's start off with the Magnus feet. You want to just pull this out, which gives us enough room to rotate that around and push that back in. This section here is going to come up and extend down. And then this is going to come down and slide in like so. This is going to untap from the knee. Come around to the back. This section here is going to untap. Sorry, the light is a bit harsh there, isn't it? There we go. This section here is going to rotate down like so. And then come around like this. And this whole section here is going to come untapped. And basically, we're going to rotate this down. And this is going to square off because these here are going to line up with the tabs in the back of the foot. Here we go. Where are you? Try and line that up and see it on camera, which is nigh on impossible because I'm blocking my own light. Where are you? There we go. [00:13:31] Speaker ?: There we go. [00:13:32] Speaker 1: Right. That is in. That is in. This needs to be rotated. This is going to come down like so. That's as far up as that's going to come, isn't it? Yep. Now rotate these out to the 45 degree angle because we're going to need to bring this butt panel down. This comes through like so. And this thing comes back in. This comes back in. And as you can see, we have this tab here and this tab here. These two are going to tab in together and then that's going to tab in on top of those. So let's push locate and come on. Blind leading the blinder, isn't it? There we go. There we go. That's in. That's in. That's there. That's there. And then that should, he says, line up and there we go. That's secured. That's secured into position. Rotate this section up like so. And then this piece like this. This part is almost kind of reminiscent of G1 and rotate this around. Rotate this one in. Take those shoulder pieces off and bring this piece down like so. And these hip skirts here, they are going to straighten up and come down and push in and lock into position into position there. Apologies. This needs to be facing outwards. Outwards. Lift this backpack piece up because that's freeing up this here. This then needs to come out just slightly. Just that much, basically. This is going to rotate like so. And then this is going to come down like this. And this frees up this section here. This comes on tab from here. It pops up. Comes up like so. And then from here. This is going to extend. So we are left with this. Basically, this section here comes down at 45 degrees, which allows for clearance. And basically, this hinge here is going to rotate inwards and over. And if you look, there's a tab here and a tab here. Those are going to tab in together. And this one here and this one here are going to tab in together. Again, this is very kind of reminiscent of the G1 figure. So this comes in the center. And it's going to push and secure. And same with this section here. That's going to push and secure the feet. I'm going to tab in to this toe tab. Just bring that in. Push and secure that in. And we've got a leg tab here as well. That's going to push. And come on. Have I lined all this up squarely? I think I have. There we go. That's in. We're going to bring this section back down. It's here. It's going to come in and there's a tab just here. That's going to line up and locate. There we go. That's in. That's in. That's in. There is a tab here. And this tab's here. I get in behind here. I don't like to push against this hinge. So I'm going to come in and support it from behind. And then that's just going to tab and secure into position like so. I'm going to want to rotate the head around. So the back is facing upwards. Bring these antennas down. And this gives the head a little push. So he seats in and we come around to this cab section. This is going to come out. This. Here. Is going to extend upwards like so. This can then push in. It's 15 degrees. Rotate around like so. Come in. Square off at the front. We have wheels underneath. And wheels underneath. There we go. Slide. Like so. That's then going to come up. Tab. And lock into position. Come on. Lock for me. There we go. That's in. That's in. Now that's not in this side. Come on. The wheel is going to come up. And the wheel is going to come up. What's going on with this side here? And then we can just plug. Those in. So the front wheels and these wheel. Roll at the same time. The back wheel don't. And everything's tabbed in. As it should. Is where it's meant to be. Yeah. I guess. And it's just because. The back wheels work. As well as the front wheels. [00:19:29] Speaker ?: Yeah. [00:19:29] Speaker 1: There we go. Quite a little bit of pressure. Then they roll. But naturally. This goes off the back wheels. And front wheels. But there we go. This reminds me very much. Of the. What was it? Was it? The Hasbro's one? Hasbro's Magnus. Where you had the little mini. Guy inside as well. That kind of look to it. There is play value. We can. Mount the hammers. We can bring some of the ramps down. To kind of mimic. That kind of G1. Look. Don't necessarily think we need that. With our Magnus figure. I just love. How he looks and feels. It's a good. Solid piece. Like I said. Not. As heavy. There is. Some sort of die casting. There is some heft to it. Maybe it's. It could just be. Completely. The heft and weight from the plastic. Because it's a very solid piece. Obviously. Other than. This cab section here. But we have some. This is kind of a. Plastic. Mirrored finish underneath here. Everything tidies up. Very nicely. Indeed. Good solid piece. Very very excited. To get more. From these guys in the future. I am genuinely. Very happy. With how this looks. I think with. The hammer. Etc. If you would like to. Mount that. On. It's going to look. Different. It's certainly. A look. I guess you can like. Bring it in. And it mounts. In the ports. In between here. And that will kind of. Sit. On top. When that's fully mounted. And then you can get the gun. On the side there. As well. Good piece. Very good piece. Worth the money. Of playability. A lot. Of poseability. And if they continue. On with this line. We're going to have. A fantastic. Looking. Display. It's different. It's not normally. Something I would go for. Like I said. I've started to stray away. From G1. Again. Kind of regretting. Selling some of the figures. That I had. That would have gone lovely. With this. I may have to try. And get them back. Because this is kind of. Getting me. Into that. For look and feel. Again. It's almost like. A Zoids. Crossover. Man. I miss that. It's a good piece. I could link. In the description below. Where it could be purchased. Highly recommended. It's actually. One of my favorite. Magnuses. I own. Even over the. Masterpiece ones. It's got that play scale. It's got that ability. To pick it up. On your desk. And just mess around. With them. Yes. I didn't like the ankles. I didn't like how they work. There's room for maneuvering. There's something. Maybe I would like to twist. In there. And the head. Is a bit lackluster. But that's something. Maybe we could get. An upgrade kit for. Maybe if I'd had. That other face plate. That would have kind of. Sold it a bit more for me. But I think. You imagine this. But you add a little bit of. Battle damage to it. You get something to paint up. As well. It's going to look. Absolutely sensational. Love it. Until next time.
