[0:00] So Kate Zacharias term as press secretary didn't quite last a Scaramucci. [0:05] So she's fired. [0:09] So let's get into it because let's see, we need to hear the whole story. [0:15] Why did she get fired and what's the fallout John, tell us all about. [0:19] Yeah, I think it was technically less than half a Scaramucci, [0:22] less than half of the lifespan of a head of lettuce. [0:25] It did not go well. [0:26] She had one press conference and that's being generous to call it a whole. [0:31] It was half of a press conference that she did. [0:34] And in case you missed what happened at it, take a look. [0:38] Good morning, I am so honored to work for [0:45] President Trump and the American people as the new White House press secretary. [0:53] I want to thank President Trump for his trust that he has placed in me. [1:00] I have wanted to work for him for a very long time. [1:04] Everyday Americans are showing up in droves to attend these rallies. [1:09] Because of President Trump's America first agenda of lower taxes, [1:15] higher wages and one of my favorites secure borders. [1:20] In addition to that, we will be, there's $54 billion tied to the Alaska LNG pipeline and [1:29] terminal to service the Pacific Rim by love being with my kids. [1:33] The idea of not spending evenings with my kids is completely unacceptable. [1:39] So my president, excuse me, my husband, that's a good one, my husband is out here. [1:48] Yes, that didn't go very well. [1:50] Donald Trump used to say of Carolyn Levitt, including a lot of things about her physical appearance. [1:54] She's like a machine gun, those lips, they just go. [1:58] In this case, I think the guns jammed, I don't think that it works very well. [2:02] So that was almost the entirety of the press conference, exaggerating slightly, [2:06] it was like a third of it at least. [2:08] But she then went on to do some appearances on Fox News. [2:12] I guess they figured she can't stand up to the media, so go to the fake media, [2:16] the fake right wing media. [2:17] And even that didn't go all that well, take a look. [2:21] Why only three questions in 14 minutes, and what might you do a little differently going forward? [2:27] I can give you some unsolicited advice that's never gonna be a friendly room to you. [2:32] Yeah, so what I would say is I would absolutely be very well prepared on the briefing, [2:41] Sean. And I would love and I do love questions. And I would love to build a relationship with [2:47] all of those members of the press corps. So there is a substantive component to us [2:53] having an ability to interact. And I will be very prepared, Sean, [2:57] and I will step up to the duty of President Trump has asked me to as press secretary. [3:02] All right, Katie, we wish you the best of luck in your position, [3:05] and we do appreciate you coming on. Thank you. [3:07] I think them prematurely playing her off was kind of a bad omen because it also happened to her job. [3:14] Now, we're gonna have in a second the before and like what Trump was saying his view of Katie was, [3:20] and what was really going on behind the scenes. But Cenk, feel free to weigh in, she's out. [3:24] So first, I love that she said, I'm so thankful to President Trump for giving me this job. [3:31] I don't know if she's still thankful, right? She said it was unacceptable to not spend nights with [3:37] her kids, problem solved. So now you'll get to spend nights with your kids now that you're fired. [3:42] I thought Hannity going after her was interesting and strange, and so did everybody else. [3:48] So because Hannity's job is usually to fluff the Trump guy. So he must have gotten a note to go [3:55] after her because Hannity never disobeys Rupert Murdoch. If the Murdoch say something, [4:01] that's what he's gonna say on air, right? Maybe Trump said he wasn't impressed, [4:05] and so Sean felt free to push back. Somebody thought this person is not good enough to carry out [4:12] what I would say is our propaganda, right? She's not up to the job of doing the propaganda right, [4:19] it's gonna backfire on us. So Sean, go ahead and kneecap her. [4:23] Yeah. Because I don't think it was Trump, [4:25] I think it was Hannity delivering a message on behalf of others to Trump, right? Hey, [4:30] we're not happy with her. And so in that playing her off, see Hannity didn't tell the producer to do [4:36] that. The producer already knew to do that because it's a Fox News thing, right? [4:41] That's a good point. So the Murdochs for whatever [4:44] reason decided, no, we don't like her, we're gonna get rid of her, okay? And they sense that [4:49] Trump was teetering on the edge. So when Hannity gives the push, she gets taken out. [4:54] Yeah. And as she was explaining to Hannity there, she said, I will be very prepared. And so that gives [5:02] you a sense that they thought she was not prepared. And that's what the pushback she's gotten in the [5:08] White House and hence only three questions and only 14 minutes. I think her inability to speak [5:14] was secondary to her not being prepared enough to take those questions. Do you see what I'm saying? [5:20] I think the criticism being that she wasn't prepared is the most generous criticism you can [5:26] give. Cuz that implies that had she just looked over the packet more, she would have done a good job. [5:30] And I don't think that's remotely true. Yeah, that gets us to the inability to speak part. [5:36] And maybe not knowing these things, I could read a page if it's gibberish about people I don't know, [5:40] countries I don't know, issues I don't know. It doesn't matter if I read the page, [5:44] I'm not gonna be able to speak extemporaneously in an intelligent fashion about it. [5:48] And think about it, guys. Did they vet her at all when they hired her to John's point? Did anyone say, [5:56] who's our ally in Nicaragua? Just to pick a random country, right? Who's the leader of Nicaragua? [6:03] And whose side are we on? Which drug lord are we supporting in Brazil, right? And which ones [6:10] are we pretending to be against? Just some rudimentary ability to handle this particular job. [6:16] Cuz you gotta know US policy, because you're the press sector for the President of the United [6:22] States of America. That is a hefty job, that is a substantive job. Do you think he knows? [6:27] No, but at least his press secretary should know, right? Sure, yeah. [6:31] But they never vet anyone. No. [6:34] I like her, I saw her on Fox. She's got nice lips. Well, if you hire people like that, yeah, [6:40] you're gonna have to fire them in five days and after 14 minutes. The Medicare annual enrollment period [6:44] is here. Most Medicare plans change every year, and many go away entirely. You have from October 15th [6:51] until December 7th to get on the right 2027 Medicare plan for you. [6:55] Even if you're happy with your current plan, it's critical to review your 2027 options. [7:00] Every year, millions of people end up stuck on the wrong plan for their needs, [7:04] which means they're overpaying for care or worse, not able to get the care that they need. [7:09] I highly recommend you call our trusted Medicare partner chapter. They're the only advisor that looks [7:15] at every plan nationwide to make sure you have the best plan for your specific situation. [7:20] Their support is free, and they could review your options in under 20 minutes. If you're on the [7:25] right plan for your needs, they'll just tell you, and then you don't have to do anything. If not, [7:30] they'll help you switch. By doing this, they're saving people an average of $1,100 a year on healthcare costs. [7:39] Call chapter today to get this out of the way quickly and enjoy your peace of mind. [7:44] You can reach them at 805-201-2275. That's 805-201-2275. [7:55] So it's just an epic disaster. We have a Trump clip that I want to play for you guys, but [7:59] you know what? You keep going, and then at the end, [8:03] we'll play a clip of Trump telling us how good he is at hiring. How good? Okay, I didn't know about [8:08] that one. Yeah, your Nicaragua stuff, I think you might be set up too high above the bar. [8:12] If the next senator from South Carolina doesn't need to know any of that stuff, [8:15] why does the press secretary need to know that stuff? But anyway, yeah, [8:18] they're just theoretically vet at least a little bit. Did they know about the QAnon stuff, [8:23] the China stuff? Had they done one test press conference? I don't think that they did. [8:28] There's no way, yeah. I don't think they did literally anything, but- [8:32] Can I tell you something? Actually, that'll lead to an ironic defense of her for me, [8:37] but okay, now keep going. Just have her do a Jubilee or something, [8:40] first got something, one press secretary, 20 wackos. But anyway, so Donald Trump had to handle [8:47] this in a careful way because she was not qualified for the job. It was a disaster that should obviously [8:54] reflect very poorly on him, particularly when you find out that evidently he didn't even [8:58] informed Susie Wiles about this. He's taking soul control over this sort of stuff. [9:03] This reflects poorly on him. He doesn't want to imply, he doesn't want to take responsibility for [9:07] that. He literally never does. So why don't we look at what he said publicly about her stepping [9:12] down and what he was apparently saying behind the scenes. First, the public. [9:16] My opinion, she was treated very, very unfairly, unfairly by both the fake, and we're talking [9:34] about doing something. We like Katie a lot. I think she's been really treated very unfairly. [9:41] Are you saying you're talking about fire? No, no, we're talking about, [9:45] I want her to have a good life. I don't want to have a life like she's led in the last three days. [9:50] She is being brutalized by the media. I think very unfairly, but she's been brutalized by the media. [9:56] That is nonsense. That's total nonsense. To the extent that the media was rough on her, [10:02] it's that she did a bad job, which she obviously did. I think that Cenk thinks that, Donald Trump [10:07] thinks that. She did a bad job and we said that she did a bad job. You can't even say that the media [10:12] inside of the press briefing room were unfair to her. We don't have a sample size large enough because [10:17] she ran out of the room after three questions. And the three questions were all, by the way, [10:21] people seem to miss this. It was all right wing sources she was talking to. [10:25] It's not like she went straight to Caitlin Collins or whatever. It was like Breitbart and stuff, [10:30] but that was unfair. And then Sean Hannity was tough on her. Is that what Donald Trump was talking about? [10:37] I'm not sure, but he's not firing her. They're gonna have some position for her, [10:40] God knows what. She wasn't qualified for this. What is she qualified for? [10:44] So he implies there that he's trying to help her out. He doesn't think she did a bad job. It's just that [10:49] the media was mean to her as if in his eyes, they're not gonna be mean to anyone he chooses. [10:55] So she needs to have a good life. So get her out of there. Well, [10:57] then who the hell is gonna actually fill the role? They're all gonna be unfairly treated. [11:01] Anyway, it's all lie because behind the scenes, he was way more critical of her. [11:05] So Caitlin Collins tweeted, I'm told Trump was embarrassed by the coverage of Zachariah's briefing. [11:10] And when he pulled other aides about her, Zachariah had few allies willing to stand up for [11:14] her or defend her performance. The main reason he rushed to select her after growing irritated [11:19] with how long the process was taking to replace Carolyn Levitt was because he wanted more people [11:24] defending him on TV. When she failed to do so in a sufficient way with Sean Hannity, [11:29] Trump said he knew she needed to go. So yes, they did rush there. And why did they have to rush [11:35] after a couple of months? It's because nobody qualified wants the job. And so they're not only [11:40] at the bottom of the barrel, they're barely even vetting the bottom of the barrel. [11:44] But beyond even what Caitlin Collins says, Daniel Lipman says, knew one White House official told [11:50] me that President Trump in an earlier meeting with Katie Zachariah was not present for, [11:55] told attendees that she had no talent and shouldn't be on television. [11:59] Which to him is everything about almost anyone, especially a woman. If you're not from central [12:05] casting and you don't have the juice or whatever, then you're worthless to him. And that seems to be [12:10] the evaluation he's made. Yeah, well, look, if there's one thing I know about Donald Trump, [12:15] he knows talent, okay? And that's because he told me. Can we watch it? This is from a while back. [12:20] I know the best people. I know the best managers. I know the best dealmakers. [12:27] I know people that will make us so strong. I know guys that are so good. [12:32] I know the best people. I know people that are so good. [12:38] So good that they know words other than good. I'm not one of them, but I know them. [12:47] So this brothers said that how he's such a great manager and the art of the deal and [12:52] he's like the greatest businessman. Now you guys know six major massive bankruptcies. [12:58] He's never run a company that he didn't bankrupt until he became president and now runs crypto [13:04] scams and makes billions off of corruption, right? The one business he's ever run right [13:10] is corruption. Okay, so but if you're gonna brag all day about how you're the greatest at hiring [13:15] and you know the best people, you might not wanna fire people after five days. [13:20] And he says, you're doing to protect her, please. So John, my slight defense of her is [13:27] she's super nervous and I get it, right? This is your first time being press secretary. [13:37] And imagine if you were press secretary that, my guess is anybody would be super nervous on [13:44] the first day, right? True. [13:46] Now, as she herself pointed out, she needed to be way better prepared. And the more prepared [13:52] you are, the less nervous you are. So there's so no question and a lot of it is on her, but I get it. [13:58] But exactly to your point, John, I blame Trump for hiring her in the first place way more than I [14:05] blame her. Because it's his job to pick the best press secretary and he didn't even bother [14:11] vetting her in any way, shape or form other than liking how she looks on Fox News, right? [14:16] And then I blame the team a lot more than her because, guys, are you gonna? All right, so it [14:21] turns into a disaster, right? So if I'm in charge, do I then immediately cut her legs out from underneath [14:27] her because everybody's making fun of her? No, I wouldn't. I would do what John suggested, [14:32] I would do one test after another, after another internally, right? [14:36] Fire questions at her, have her get prepared, right? And then drill her on it and get practicing, [14:42] lots of practicing, and then put her out one more time, give her a second shot. [14:46] Yeah. Like just as- Prove the media wrong. [14:49] Yeah, and even if you prove them right, people then see you instead of going, [14:55] there's a dumb mistake by me, you're loser, fired, right? I mean, we'll keep her around something, [15:00] yeah, she's pretty, what I'm saying, I like her lips, right? You look like a jerk, right? [15:03] Yeah. And you are a terrible person, [15:06] if you set her up to fail, at least give her a second chance while doing an enormous amount of [15:12] homework behind the scenes, right? But no, she did the thing that is the biggest crime, [15:19] she made Trump look bad. But he doesn't need any help in that. [15:23] Yeah, yeah. And so I think by firing her so quickly, [15:28] he didn't in a sense more damage, because not to her, but to himself. [15:33] Because it now proves beyond a shadow of a doubt, he's a clown in hiring, he never thinks anything [15:39] through. The minute that there's any kind of problem for him, he'll throw anyone under a bus. [15:46] Yeah. And I just, it's kind of a little bit [15:49] stomach churn, I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this. Obviously, I'm not a fan of her, [15:53] to say the least, and no one is. And she was trying to glom on to this, she timed her Fox News [16:00] appearances to when Trump would watch. So I got no love for her at all, not 1%, right? But I'm just [16:07] more bothered by this feeding frenzy, and then destroying someone, and then that's it, she's [16:14] done. There's something about not getting a second chance that viscerally bothers me, even for her. [16:20] Yeah, I get that you're a nice guy in that way. I don't think anyone is entitled to [16:25] an incredibly powerful and well-paid job, necessarily, when I've never heard anything [16:30] about her that would say that she was qualified. It's not like this is the next step, it's just [16:34] they plucked her from basically nowhere. And maybe I'm a little bit harsh on her or whatever, [16:39] partially because I'm sick of people, fairly mediocre people feeling like, no, yeah, [16:43] I should be a senator. I should be press secretary, why not? I think I could do it. [16:47] But the main issue is, the lying about being a lawyer or whatever, that speaks to character. [16:52] And the fact that she's a QAnon conspiracy theorist. No, you shouldn't be in the White House, [16:57] actually, you should not be serving in government. You believe insane things about breadcrumbs and all that [17:01] stuff. And so that's who she is, that's who she was for a long time, so goodbye. [17:06] Yeah, but to be fair, are you sure John F Kennedy Jr. isn't going to come back? [17:11] Like 99% sure, I mean, knock on wood, but anyway. [17:17] Yeah, so no, clownish, unquestionable, no issues here with going, haha, I get it, [17:25] we all get it, we all are saying, haha, to some degree. Yeah, just as a human being, [17:31] I always believe in second chances, but maybe I'm a sap. Maybe. [17:35] Also, no one's going to be good at that job, because all it entails is lying, right? [17:41] Carolyn Levitt was a good liar. Well, that's fair, [17:43] maybe they should bring a better liar. Yeah, just bring her back, [17:46] I'm sure he's calling her every day. Give her a second shot at lying. [17:49] Yeah, my God. [17:50] Every time you ring the bell below, an angel gets his wings. [17:53] Totally not true, but it does keep you updated on our live shows.
