[0:00] Iran says those historic talks with the United States failed because of a lack of trust. [0:05] Tensions in the Middle East are at a boiling point, but the fragile two-week ceasefire in [0:09] Iran is still holding for now. Lucas Tomlinson is live in Islamabad, Pakistan, where those talks [0:16] took place. Lucas. John, Fox News has just received Vice President J.D. Vance's final [0:24] offer to the Iranian delegation here in Islamabad. It's a series of six points that amount to red [0:31] lines, according to U.S. officials. It reads as follows, quote, end all uranium enrichment, [0:37] dismantle all major nuclear enrichment facilities, retrieve highly enriched uranium, accept a broader [0:43] peace, security, and de-escalation framework that includes regional allies, end funding for terrorist [0:49] proxies, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, and fully open the Strait of Hormuz, charging no tolls for [0:55] passage. Vice President J.D. Vance left Pakistan earlier this morning after negotiating with the [1:01] Iranians throughout the night, John. Some think Iran's delegation wasn't senior enough [1:06] to accept the deal with Vance. They have taken their offer back to Tehran with the threat of the [1:11] resumption of the war beginning if the ceasefire ends next week. Speaking to reporters after the [1:16] marathon negotiating session, Vice President Vance said one of the key red lines in these talks [1:20] is ending Iran's nuclear program. The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment [1:27] that they will not seek a nuclear weapon and they will not seek the tools that would enable them [1:33] to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon. With the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier strike group [1:41] heading into theater, joining two others already there, and along with thousands of Marines in the [1:45] Pacific, these additional forces will be on station when the ceasefire ends next week. President Trump [1:51] told Maria Bartiromo he hopes this new blockade on the Strait of Hormuz will help bring Iran back to the [1:57] negotiating table. They haven't left the bargaining table. I predict they come back and they give us [2:04] everything we want, and I told my people I want everything. I don't want 90 percent. I don't want [2:09] 95 percent. I told them I want everything. Vance negotiated with the Iranian delegation for more than 21 [2:18] hours here in Islamabad, becoming the most senior U.S. official to do so in nearly half a century. John? [2:25] Any word on the possibility of some kind of resumption, Lucas? A resumption of a deal or a [2:34] resumption of a war, John? No, a resumption of the talks, excuse me. [2:41] Yes, the Iranian delegates that were here, some have been speaking out saying that they're not [2:47] closing the door on diplomacy. This was not an outright rejection of the deal. Some people tell me, [2:53] John, officials, that there was not senior enough Iranian leaders here in Islamabad, [2:59] quite possibly because many of them have been killed over the course of the past six weeks, [3:02] but there is no one senior enough, at least not to Vice President J.D. Vance's level to accept the [3:07] deal. That's why this proposal, these six red lines have been taken back to Tehran for further [3:12] consultations, John. And now with President Trump upping the ante with this blockade of the Strait of [3:17] Hormuz, the Trump administration hopes this could make the difference where the war resumes and the [3:21] ceasefire ends, John. Lucas Tomlinson reporting from Islamabad. Thank you. [3:25] For more on those failed peace talks and President Trump's response, let's bring in [3:32] Ellie Kohanim. She is an Iranian refugee and a former State Department deputy special envoy to [3:37] combat anti-Semitism. Ellie, there is no deal yet, but you heard the president there telling our [3:44] Maria Bartiromo that he thinks they're going to come back to the table and accept the deal that has [3:50] been offered. Would you say that's likely? [3:52] John, good to be with you. And I think if the remnant of the Islamic Republic regime [3:57] knows what's good for them, they will listen to President Trump, who has offered them diplomacy [4:03] over and over again, but also has shown them that he's willing to use the might of America's [4:09] military, the greatest in the world. And they have been on the receiving end of that military, [4:14] seeing the dismantlement of their own military, which they've taken 47 years to build up, [4:19] get destroyed in a matter of weeks. John, the president is also outmaneuvering the Islamic [4:24] Republic by the blockade of Hormuz that he has announced today. The reason is, first of all, [4:31] he's going to clear international waters. But I would say significantly that Iranians right now [4:35] are desperate for cash. The president referred to that in a truth social post about how this is about [4:40] money. And so they've been wanting to create this toll system so that they would have immediate cash [4:46] relief. And the president is essentially taking that away from them while also safeguarding [4:51] international waters and also enriching our own economy by having international buyers come to the [4:57] United States for our oil. So this is a brilliant move by the president. And I do think it is putting [5:03] the Islamic Republic remnants of the regime back into a corner. Of course, it was last weekend that [5:09] the president posted something on truth social that drew widespread criticism, even in this country. [5:15] He called the Iranians crazy, used some very strong language, told them to reopen the straits. [5:22] He says that that post is what led to these negotiations. Listen. [5:27] They're allowed to say death to America, death to this, death to that. And I make one statement, [5:34] they say, oh, such a big deal. Let me tell you, that statement got them to the bargaining table [5:39] and they haven't left. They haven't left the bargaining table. I predict they come back and [5:44] they give us everything we want. And I told my people, I want everything. I don't want 90%. [5:50] I don't want 95%. I told them I want everything. He is a negotiator. And he says that that post [5:59] is what brought them to the table. Do you agree? John, I would tell you as an Iranian, [6:03] President Trump understands the psychology of this rogue regime better than anyone. [6:08] And the way that he addressed them is exactly the way to get them to the table, which, you know, [6:13] he succeeded in doing. And I trust that President Trump will not only get them to the table as he has [6:19] so far, but also get this over the finish line. Let's remember that this rogue regime is the [6:25] world's leading state sponsor of terror, and they have been sprinting to a nuclear weapon. [6:29] The president has told us over and again, he's not going to allow them to have that capability. [6:34] We can imagine what this madman regime would do if they had nuclear weapons. [6:38] So obviously it is of our national security concern to make sure that the president succeeds [6:45] and that we are all aligned in support of the president's mission. And we've seen a lot of [6:50] polling, John, that indicates the American people get it. We understand this threat and we want to get [6:56] this over the finish line. So again, I think the Hormuz, the announcement about the blockade of the [7:02] Hormuz today was a brilliant move on the part of the president. And I would tell you that if the [7:08] Iranians don't wake up and understand the position that they're in, which is that they now have to [7:13] transition from a rogue regime to a normal nation state. If they don't wake up soon, I imagine the [7:21] president will continue to use all the tools available to him. He has told them we are ready, [7:26] we are locked and loaded. And so the remnants of this Islamic Republic regime would be wise to [7:31] listen to the president's warning. Let's talk about that. What comes next? And let's talk about the [7:36] people. I mean, I think when the bombing campaign began and the Ayatollah and so many other leaders [7:39] were killed, people thought the Iranian people, I mean, Americans thought the Iranian people would [7:44] rush out into the streets and topple their government. That hasn't happened. Can it? Will it? [7:50] John, I have a lot of confidence in the Iranian people, but let's remember right now there are [7:54] still bombs falling overhead. President Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, they've told the Iranian [8:00] people to still stay indoors. So they have not received any kind of signal yet to take to the streets. [8:05] And I imagine that the Iranian people will do that at the right time. I also want to say, [8:10] going back to the beginning of this conversation about the financial strait that the Republic, [8:15] Islamic Republic, find itself right now. Remember that in January, the people went out on the streets [8:21] because the Iranian currency had become almost valueless. When the fog of war clears up at any time [8:31] that that might happen, the Iranian government still has a major economic crisis on their hands. [8:38] And so if for no other reason, I imagine that the Iranian people will take to the streets because [8:42] there's no economic solution. This regime has no solution for governing its country. They've been [8:48] so focused on their nuclear file, on sprinting to that nuclear bomb, on their terror proxies that [8:53] they have left no financial consideration for running their own government. And so none of [8:59] those structural issues, John, have been dealt with. And I believe the success of Epic Fury, [9:06] the financial straits, the regime finds itself, all of that will incentivize the Iranian people to [9:10] take to the streets at the right time. Yeah, the Ayatollahs spent billions more than that on [9:15] weaponry and nothing on water supplies. Exactly right. [9:19] Ellie Kohanim, it's good to talk to you. Thank you. Thanks, John.
