Trump gives first remarks after shooting at White House

[0:01] Well, thank you very much. [0:03] That was very unexpected, but incredibly acted upon by Secret Service and law enforcement. [0:12] And this was an event dedicated to freedom of speech that was supposed to bring together members of both parties with members of the press. [0:25] And in a certain way, it did, because the fact that they just unified, I saw a room that was just totally unified. [0:33] It was, in one way, very beautiful, a very beautiful thing to see a man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons. [0:42] And he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service, and they acted very quickly. [0:49] And I've just released, for purposes of transparency, clarity, I've ordered it to be put out. [0:57] You probably have it by now, put out on truth and put out on many of the platforms. [1:02] A tape showing the violence of this thug that attacked our Constitution, and also showing how quickly Secret Service and law enforcement acted on our country's behalf. [1:15] Really did a great job. [1:17] One officer was shot, but saved by the fact that he was wearing, obviously, a very good bulletproof vest. [1:25] He was shot from very close distance with a very powerful gun. [1:30] And the vest did the job. [1:34] I just spoke to the officer, and he's doing great. [1:37] He's in great shape. [1:39] He has very high spirits. [1:43] And we told him we love him and respect him. [1:47] And he's a very proud guy. [1:49] He's very proud of what he does, Secret Service agent. [1:53] And we looked at all of the conditions that took place tonight. [1:59] And I will say, you know, it's not a particularly secure building. [2:06] And I didn't want to say this, but this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we're planning at the White House. [2:16] It's actually a larger room, and it's much more secure. [2:19] It's got drone-proof. [2:21] It's bulletproof glass. [2:22] We need the ballroom. [2:23] That's why Secret Service, that's why the military are demanding it. [2:27] They've wanted the ballroom for 150 years for lots of different reasons. [2:32] But today is a little bit different because today we need levels of security that probably nobody has ever seen before. [2:40] But everyone owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to the courage of law enforcement. [2:47] And the law enforcement and working with the D.C. police, and we just spoke with the mayor. [2:53] And when we're finished, the police chief is going to take over and discuss it also from their viewpoint. [3:02] But they also performed exactly as they were supposed to. [3:07] And you see the attacker in different positions, but you also see the attacker totally subdued and under control. [3:14] So, as you know, this is not the first time in the past couple of years that our republic has been attacked by a would-be assassin who sought to kill in Butler, Pennsylvania, less than two years ago. [3:28] You all know that story. [3:29] And in Palm Beach, Florida, a few months after that, we came close. [3:33] We really had, again, we had some great work done by law enforcement. [3:39] But in light of this evening's events, I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts in resolving our difference peacefully. [3:48] We have to resolve our differences. [3:51] I will say you had Republicans, Democrats, independents, conservatives, liberals, and progressives. [3:59] Those words are interchangeable, perhaps, but maybe they're not. [4:03] But you had everybody in that room, big crowd, record-setting crowd. [4:06] There was a record-setting group of people, and there was a tremendous amount of love and coming together. [4:14] I watched, I watched, and I was very, very impressed by that. [4:20] But we were, First Lady and I were taken very well care of, very quickly, very quickly rushed off the stage. [4:29] Vice President J.D. Vance, who's here, was likewise beautifully done. [4:35] He was just saying how quickly everybody acted, law enforcement, Secret Service in particular in this case, but law enforcement. [4:42] Marco had the same thing. [4:44] Pete was there. [4:45] Pete didn't want any help. [4:46] He didn't want anybody to help him. [4:48] He doesn't want anybody to help him. [4:50] But he did get some, didn't you? [4:52] And I think you also said that it was very impressive. [4:55] So, with that, I'd like to ask Todd Blanche to come up, say a few words, and tell you it's already underway. [5:03] The man has been captured. [5:08] They're going to his apartment. [5:10] I guess he lives in California. [5:12] And he's a sick person, a very sick person. [5:15] And we don't want things like this to happen. [5:17] I think it's very important that I say, though, and I told the representatives of the evening, [5:22] they did such a beautiful job with such a beautiful evening. [5:24] And, again, they're talking about free speech in our Constitution. [5:28] That's what it's all about, not just White House correspondence. [5:32] It's really, it was really based on free speech in our Constitution. [5:36] But I said very importantly that we'll do it again within the next 30 days, [5:41] and we'll make it bigger and better and even nicer. [5:45] So I just want to thank everybody that was involved. [5:48] I also want to thank the press, the media. [5:51] You've been very responsible in your coverage. [5:53] I will say I've been seeing what's been out. [5:55] You've been very responsible. [5:57] So, Todd Blintz, I'd like to say a few words. [5:59] I know we're going to have cash, and then you're going to go on. [6:02] We can ask, I guess we can take a couple of questions. [6:06] I want to thank the First Lady for, that was a rather traumatic experience for her. [6:13] There was a lot of action taking place up there very quickly. [6:16] But, again, the response time was really incredible. [6:20] And we're going to reschedule. [6:22] We're going to do it again. [6:24] We're not going to let anybody take over our society. [6:26] We're not going to cancel things out, because we can't do that. [6:30] We wanted to stay tonight. [6:31] I will tell you, I fought like hell to stay. [6:35] But they, it was protocol. [6:39] They said, please, sir, because they didn't know a lot of, there was a lot of action going [6:43] on, and they didn't know, could there be, probably a lone shooter, but we'll find out. [6:47] We'll find out very quickly. [6:48] They have it very well under control. [6:50] So I want to thank everybody very much, and Todd Blanche, please.
