"Five, four, three, two, one. How's life and such, guys? Life-tastic. Oh, yeah. I guess you could say Biocrat is having a mass effect on our lives. Wow, just wow. Can I please remove a message? Once again, the LJ says something that we all have to prove here. I'm going to call it in, so try and..."
[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Five, four, three, two, one.
[00:00:30] Speaker 2: How's life and such, guys? Life-tastic.
[00:00:49] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
[00:00:50] LJ: I guess you could say Biocrat is having a mass effect on our lives. Wow, just wow.
[00:01:00] Venom: Can I please remove a message?
[00:01:01] Speaker 5: Once again, the LJ says something that we all have to prove here.
[00:01:07] Speaker 1: I'm going to call it in, so try and restrain yourself.
[00:01:11] LJ: I was giving our listeners an update on how our lives have been going. No, you were making a joke about a game demo we've been playing. No, no. What we've been doing is Biocrat and... Stop talking! Okay.
[00:01:28] Speaker 1: That is an interesting way of putting it. That is true. We have not been recording episodes for the past couple of weeks, but I have been releasing several that we've recorded from the past couple of weeks. And that is because of one reason or one... actually two reasons. But, you know, okay, two reasons and two reasons alone. Biocrat and website troubles. But I think that we've got a semi-handle on the website troubles. I'm just uploading these episodes to MediaFire for now. I'm sorry if that's inconvenient to anyone. There's nothing I can do for now. And then with Biocrat, filmings... preliminary filmings done, so for the moment we can devote some time to the TTV until we are needed in post-production and whatnot.
[00:02:14] Speaker 2: Yep. Go, Mom.
[00:02:16] Speaker 1: So, we are recording ATTV episodes today, as we have not done in a while, and I'm glad to be back and whatnot.
[00:02:27] LJ: Yeah, I'm not. Of course you're not. Because you're the one that's going to have all the editing work, besides this. Yep.
[00:02:37] Venom: Totally.
[00:02:38] LJ: Totally. So, yeah. You're never happy. You're always sad. It's because you're in my life. Go and die. On the reason you're always the Grinch every Christmas. Sounds legit, VAR. The VAR is the Grinch. Every Christmas, he's always the Grinch, and on that reason. How the VAR is the Grinch.
[00:03:03] Venom: Hey, VAR has his heart grew three times too large.
[00:03:07] Speaker 1: LJ, you're like the Grinch's dog, then he dressed up as a reindeer. Almost.
[00:03:12] Venom: It's funny. If LJ was my dog, I would just push him off the... Like, what happens to that dog? Exactly. Perfect.
[00:03:22] LJ: Stumblewall. I'm Masanak. I'm VARNARAN. I'm LJ.
[00:03:30] Samiki: I'm Samiki. Wah-ha-ha-ha.
[00:03:33] LJ: Wah-ha-ha-ha-ha.
[00:03:34] Samiki: Where is Samiki? What did you do with him? He's Samiki. I ate him, and then I burped him up.
[00:03:43] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[00:03:45] Speaker 1: And for what's becoming a regular occurrence, we have our special guest.
[00:03:53] Venom: Venom.
[00:03:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, I was waiting for him to introduce him. Yeah.
[00:03:57] Venom: Yeah, I was too, but he wasn't, so I was like, okay, I'm just going to say Venom.
[00:04:01] Samiki: Venom's Arch Enemy Antidote.
[00:04:04] Speaker 1: And this is TTV... I'm sorry, guys. I have no clue.
[00:04:16] Samiki: Yeah. Let's say like 30.72.
[00:04:22] Venom: We haven't changed the title to this episode 25.
[00:04:24] Speaker 1: I know a good way to get out of this. Welcome to TTV Special Toy Fair Coverage 2012. Da-da-da-da.
[00:04:34] LJ: What a cop-out. I know, right? You deserve the sky for that. Yeah.
[00:04:41] Speaker 1: All right, so in case the title did not give it away, the bulk of this episode is going to be talking about the New York Toy Fair, which just happened on like February 12th. And, you know, that's when all the Lego sets for the upcoming summer get revealed for the first time officially, even though we've obviously all seen them like months before that. But anyway, just for the sake of, you know, sticking in the firm roots of reality, we'll read the news anyway, just for, you know, superficial purposes, even though none of it's really interesting except one thing. Two things. Well, two things, yeah, I suppose. Depending on, you know, whether you care about that. I'm going to try to read it, but I do not think it's a good idea. I thought I was going to read it.
[00:05:28] Venom: I thought I was going to read it. I thought I was going to read it out. Yeah, sure. Oh, wait, do you want me to read it, or are you going to read it, or what?
[00:05:34] Speaker 1: If you could read it, I'd be grateful, because I don't want to. Where am I starting from? The Hero Factory. Toy Fair 2012 Hero Factory. It's from last Sunday.
[00:05:45] Venom: Okay, there we go. In the news this week, we have Toy Fair 2012 Hero Factory, short stories contest number 9, The Darkness Bind Belt. Lego and Lucas Renew, Star Wars License. Toy Fair 2012, Lord of the Rings. Light Painting. Toy Fair 2012. Toy Fair 2012, Super Heroes. Toy Fair 2012, Monsters and Dinos. Lego Minecraft Set Reveal. Lego announces 10224 Town Hall. Toy Fair 2012, NICHIGO. A grim scene. Google Science Fair, sponsored by Lego. Toy Zoro Spogo Sales. And that was the news and commentary.
[00:06:47] Speaker 1: You know, there's actually a good bit of news this week, I'm surprised. A good bit.
[00:06:51] Samiki: Yeah, I forgot about the short stories contest being announced. It's kind of an esoteric theme having to use J.R.R. Tolkien quotes, but, uh...
[00:07:00] Speaker 1: I would never have guessed that that would be a valid theme for a short stories contest. I think I'm going to follow it just to see how it's pulled off.
[00:07:06] LJ: Are you kidding me, guys?
[00:07:08] Speaker 1: I hope some people... I hope some people, such as Kini, enter, because that would be interesting.
[00:07:14] LJ: That contest... That isn't even the main reason. Contests are awesome. Didn't you guys hear about the comic maker contest?
[00:07:22] Speaker 1: I'm waiting to see how that turns out.
[00:07:24] LJ: Yeah, two entries.
[00:07:25] Samiki: It has two entries.
[00:07:26] LJ: Yeah, two entries. One of which... Two entries. One of which wasn't even a serious entry, and another on the way. Yeah.
[00:07:33] Samiki: Okay, three entries. What a poll. And another on the way. I'm going to guess, like, five people care about it enough to vote.
[00:07:41] Speaker 1: Not to spoil it, but we're going to have some big names that we are familiar with that are going to be entering the contest. Like Dark Zone of Nine, Kaihingu.
[00:07:53] LJ: Oh, yeah. Totally. And, um, you know, people...
[00:07:58] Speaker 5: Wait, if Dark's entering, then there's no contest.
[00:08:02] Samiki: I liked Kakaroos.
[00:08:06] LJ: Yeah, Kakaroos was a little confusing, but yeah.
[00:08:09] Samiki: Of the two that have been entered, that's clearly the winner. I don't think anyone's going to vote for the other one.
[00:08:15] LJ: Uh, no, you'd be surprised, dude. Um, actually, uh...
[00:08:18] Samiki: Yeah, I forgot about, you know, you people are comic makers, and...
[00:08:22] LJ: No, no, no, you forgot about groups like the ICC, the group, you know, fools. But... They're all fools. They are fools! Not only is that going to be... Not only is that entered, but there's another comic in that style that's going to be entered. Anyway, I'm off topic here. Let's continue.
[00:08:39] Speaker ?: Yeah.
[00:08:40] Samiki: Lego and Lucas Renew Star Wars licenses don't make these sets until 2022.
[00:08:48] Speaker 1: It's... That's insane. You see, it's kind of ridiculous, but at the same time, not surprising in the least.
[00:08:53] Samiki: Well, you see, I thought they would do it for, like, maybe a five-year, and just do five-year deals instead of ten years out in advance, because... I just thought that...
[00:09:03] Speaker 2: Well, like...
[00:09:03] Samiki: As I point on the topic, there have been multiple incarnations of all these sets. I mean, as long as they're continuing to sell, then...
[00:09:11] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. It's a... Well, Star Wars is kind of a cop-out, because, yeah, they keep re-releasing sets they've already made over, and over, and over, and over, and over. But, you know, if it continues to make money, I guess that's really all there is to it.
[00:09:27] Samiki: Yeah, they just continue to... To say... To, you know, sell them, and they continue to sell, so that's a good thing.
[00:09:35] Speaker 1: I'm glad for the fans in Star Wars, but I'm not, really. Of Lego, that is.
[00:09:40] Samiki: Oh, yeah, definitely. But the whole point I was trying to make in the topic that I don't think people got is, what if it doesn't continue to sell? Well... Are they going to be stuck with making sets until... From here to eternity, or, you know?
[00:10:00] Speaker 1: Probably from now until 2022.
[00:10:04] Samiki: Yeah, well, that's an eternity from now, anyway.
[00:10:08] Speaker 2: Yep. Well, so true. In a way, yeah.
[00:10:12] Samiki: I'm just thinking about, you know, they may have some sort of deal, like, you know, in sports you have these... You can opt out of professional sports contracts. I wonder if they can do that here.
[00:10:27] Speaker 1: Possibly.
[00:10:27] Samiki: That's sort of, like, if they suddenly drop off their sales and they suddenly stop making money, then they have some way to do it.
[00:10:36] Speaker 1: They could probably find some way to get out of it if they wanted to. I just don't foresee that happening. Let's see, the next thing is the Lego Minecraft set getting revealed, and this is really interesting.
[00:10:51] Speaker 5: Eh, I don't know. I'm still not feeling it. Yeah. Me neither.
[00:10:58] Samiki: I just don't understand the hate that it's gotten, even before it got announced, the actual pictures, you know, that's finally been revealed, you know, fanfares, angelic courses playing, etc. But people were, like, just hating on it, just, like, how can this possibly be good, what are they thinking, and, you know, I was just left saying, you know, as someone who's apathetic towards Minecraft and, well, most video games in general, I was just thinking, you know, if you don't like the set, if you don't like what they're doing with the set, if you don't like that they're making the set, why do you even care?
[00:11:33] Venom: I mean, I think it's a good idea, but I don't really like the outcome that they came up with, I don't know, this just doesn't look Minecraft-y enough for me.
[00:11:42] Samiki: Here's my problem, it's blocky, isn't that enough?
[00:11:45] Speaker 1: Here's the real problem I have with it, this is the extent of my problem with it. When we got, when Minecraft got voted in, for some reason, even though this was likely to be what they were doing from the very beginning, and this was what was proposed on Kuso, everyone had this notion in their heads that it was going to be a model. And by a model, I mean, say...
[00:12:04] Venom: Like a giant creeper or something, like what they did with Star Wars.
[00:12:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, like one of those Star Wars sculptures, and it would be like a creeper, and you pull a technic beam, and it all falls apart like it's exploding. That would be what I think people thought. And then we got this, and it was actually revealed what the name of it was going to be, a full week in advance. So people knew it was going to be a micro-scale representation. Anyone that followed the community knew that it was going to be that. My problem with it, just like VAR, does not look like Minecraft. It's blocky, but not one of these blocks, except dirt, looks like it does in the game.
[00:12:42] Venom: Yeah, I mean, I don't expect...
[00:12:43] Speaker 1: Well, they're not going to go around making...
[00:12:44] Venom: No, no, no, no, no. I don't expect them to make, like, every single little texture, because that would take, that would cost, like, a lot. But, I mean, not even the colors, right? Like, why are there, like, those neon green pieces on the trees, and so I don't know why that's there. The wood color for the house isn't right at all. It just doesn't look good to me.
[00:13:02] Speaker 1: Lego has colors of wood that would look better.
[00:13:04] Venom: Yeah, exactly. And then the price is just outrageous. But, one thing I don't understand is, if the price is like that, why did they even bother making that bottom, like, miney part there? Like, the underground part, when you can't even really use half of it?
[00:13:20] Speaker 5: Exactly.
[00:13:21] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[00:13:21] Venom: It just doesn't make any sense to me.
[00:13:25] Speaker 1: Well, here's what I think their gimmick is. They want you to buy multiple. For $35, they want you to buy multiple, and put them all together to make a giant world, which has a bigger underground system that you can actually, you know, explore.
[00:13:38] LJ: My problem with this is not, you know, the colors or how it looks. It's its size. I understand that it's supposed to be a micro world, but Minecraft really was never a small place. If they made this bigger and used, like, larger-sized Lego blocks, I don't think many people would have had as much of a problem with this. But it's so small.
[00:14:03] Speaker 5: Oh, Jay, if you're buying $70 worth, you can...
[00:14:07] Venom: Well, personally, I actually like the size of it. I think it's kind of cool that they have it, like, a really small thing. I think that's kind of a cool idea.
[00:14:15] Speaker 1: Or the mobs, or whatever they're called.
[00:14:18] Venom: I don't like how Steve looks, but...
[00:14:20] Speaker 1: Oh, man.
[00:14:21] LJ: Steve looks weird. Yeah, although the Creeper looks really cool. Yeah, I like the Creeper. Another problem with this is... Another problem with this, I feel like these minifigs are being thrown in there as an extra and not part of it. They are? Yeah. Because not only are they completely disproportional to it, which, again, back to the size, but it's just not textured right.
[00:14:49] Speaker 1: Here's the problem I have with it, and this is completely... Well, this is one of the problem I have with it, and it's not a problem. It's more like a minor complaint. And this is the last one I have, and this is true with the set. They made it so small, they had to use these figures. Instead of making Steve a normal minifigure and giving him a pickaxe so he could actually mine. In every single one of the concepts, Steve was a minifigure with a printed face and torso. And the legs were already existing, the hands were already existing, they didn't need to recolor anything, but the head and torso. And he had a pickaxe so he could mine. If they made the Creeper like that, that's fine. But it's not Minecraft. Anyway, that's just a complaint.
[00:15:35] Venom: Yeah, I get what you mean.
[00:15:36] Speaker 1: The rest of the set, aside from it looking nothing like Minecraft except being cubes, and the minifigures, which I actually do think look good, it's just kind of a weird thing. I think it looks fine, but I think if you want to have a good set, you almost definitely need to be multiple. And with the price, no one's going to do that.
[00:15:57] Samiki: Oh, yeah. Well, think about, you know, it's Lego Minecraft, you have to pay, you know, only royalties to... That's true. ...Minecraft, but also remember that I think 1% of the proceeds from things that come from Crusoe go to charity as well. So, I mean, if I were a Minecraft fan, I don't think I would have a problem buying one of them, but buying multiple. Um, you know, the pre-order page, which I'm on now, it goes up to 100.
[00:16:25] Speaker ?: Yep.
[00:16:25] Samiki: 100. Yeah. It's $300, and that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's a lot of money.
[00:16:33] Speaker 1: Well, I'm a Minecraft fan, and I wish I could buy it, I'm not going to be a...
[00:16:38] Samiki: I do think that, that for, just from the perspective of parts, this is a goldmine.
[00:16:46] Speaker 1: It has very good pieces if you like, uh, the one-by-one tiles.
[00:16:50] Samiki: Yeah, like, like people who do mosaics and things like that, people who like smooth surfaces. It's going to be like a goldmine. Yeah, you know, a goldmine. Like a goldmine. Oh, no. You people need to catch these puns, man, I'm not going to, I'm not going to keep repeating them all day.
[00:17:07] Speaker 5: If we like puns, we wouldn't be shutting up LJ all the time.
[00:17:11] LJ: Hey, why, hey!
[00:17:15] Samiki: Right, LJ. These are bad, mine are just corny.
[00:17:18] LJ: I have good puns, I swear.
[00:17:21] Venom: Hey, don't be quiet.
[00:17:25] Speaker 1: All right, but yeah, it's getting mixed reviews, but I probably, I think it's fine. I think the price is a little weird, which means I'm not going to be able to buy it. But I understand why it's like that. I just can't afford to spend that kind of money. If I had $35 to spend, I'd get one of the Summer Hero Factory sets, which I'll actually use, but, you know.
[00:17:45] Samiki: But still, really, did anyone really expect to have huge blocks? I mean, this is the most economical concept that anything Lego could produce. Obviously, I mean, if they're going to up the size of it, the people who are, there'd be more people like you all that like Minecraft but won't buy it because of its expense. And it's already like that to some people, so the bigger it goes, the more profits you may get. It's like, it's like you're paying, you say you're going to have less of a demand, but you're going to have a higher price instead of lowering the price and getting a little higher, a little wider demand. Lego's not a stupid company. They know what they're doing, so. That's true. Business-wise, this makes sense, but, you know, I can understand how from a fan perspective. Also, before we move on, it looks like from this set that each one of the sets comes in four different mini blocks.
[00:18:41] Speaker 1: It's true. It's so you can buy multiple and rearrange them as you see fit and connect more to any place you want.
[00:18:49] Samiki: Yeah, so it's more kind of, I guess, more like, it's really adaptable that way, so.
[00:18:57] Speaker 1: It is, yeah. But, yeah, the only other interesting bit of news aside from Toy Fair is the town hall, which they announced. And it's, you know, it's a modular building, so by now we all know it's going to be amazingly constructed. And it looks fantastic. Oh, yeah, I really like it.
[00:19:18] Samiki: The only thing that really bothers me, and, uh, is that if you look at the front of it, and you look above the door, above all those columns, there are two croissants around a shield. Why are there croissants there? Lego, please, why do you put foodstuffs? You don't put foodstuffs above a door. Just don't. Who does that?
[00:19:44] Speaker 2: Wow. Two croissants, Jim. It's like, cannot unsee.
[00:19:54] Samiki: The rest of it looks really interesting. I mean, you've got, um, the globe, which looks like an imprinted, a really intricately imprinted Xamor Sphere. Yep. Yeah, it does. That's really nice.
[00:20:08] LJ: Well, wait, where?
[00:20:11] Samiki: It's, uh, the town hall. It's in the, it's inside the town hall set. It's one of the pictures in the, in the news story. And also, the, the roof also. I mean, really, that's, you know, the trap door, and they have these really, um, curved, like, these curved skylights. That's, that's, that's really impressive. Um.
[00:20:29] Venom: Yeah.
[00:20:29] Samiki: Yeah. The quality of these has just gotten better and better. A lot, a lot more detail.
[00:20:35] Venom: Uh.
[00:20:35] Samiki: Yeah. The thing is, $200. That's, uh, it's a little pricey.
[00:20:41] Venom: And, uh, unfortunately.
[00:20:49] Speaker 1: It's the, it's the people that have, you know, the modular towns that, you know, honestly, that's who they're marketing it to. I don't think anyone else is gonna have the money to this. But, yeah. That's a cool Xamor.
[00:21:05] Speaker 2: And what's not?
[00:21:07] Speaker 5: I agree. So.
[00:21:11] Samiki: That's about it. That, and, so you pay $200, and you're gonna get an intricate set, a, um, new recolored Xamor, and two croissants.
[00:21:27] Venom: Yep. That's that.
[00:21:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, there's nothing more to say on that, so. Alright. Alright. Or I could lag while speaking. That's cool. So. Toy Fair 2012 coverage, everyone. It begins with Hero Factory. Yeah, Hero.
[00:21:55] LJ: Oh, God.
[00:21:56] Speaker 2: Hero Factory.
[00:21:58] Speaker 1: I think this is, as Beast says, there's no point in talking about the winter sets, because they're out. A lot of us have some. If you don't, they're reviews. Except for Breeze and Thornrax, because they're not out in the USA until summer. They've officially been pushed back.
[00:22:13] Samiki: I don't really understand that, because, you know, Thornrax, that was, like, the set. He's gonna have the new teal in it and everything. I mean, like, but, I mean, in Breeze, it's just like a random hero that's being pushed away.
[00:22:28] Speaker 1: As weird as this sounds, there was recently a book listing on Amazon for something called the Doom Box. And, yes, I know that sounds weird. It's a book written by Greg Farshtey for Hero Factory coming out in the summer. And in it, it says, like, all the villains in the summer and Thornrax, they, before they were captured, they have this, they had the plans to construct this device called the Doom Box, which could encompass itself to close down entire sections of the universe, and I have no clue how it works. But the point of that, the reason it does, the point I'm not talking about that for is because I think they were originally supposed to be in the summer in the story, but they were included in the winter wave because four... Because four...
[00:23:18] Samiki: What about flying?
[00:23:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, because four heroes and four villains would seem like too little of a wave, considering they usually have six and six, and then two titans, and sometimes even two vehicles. So they put them in the winter wave to make it seem better, but then they realized, because they're stupid, they realized the summer wave would then have only four heroes and four villains. So, and the summer wave has always been traditionally bigger than the winter wave in sets, because that's when, you know, that's like a marketing push.
[00:23:54] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[00:23:57] Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah. They were stupid when they took out the six versus six element and replaced, because they were too lazy to make a new hero. So it just kind of got, that's what I think happened.
[00:24:10] Samiki: The whole six versus, the six, six and then six coming out, I mean, they perfected that with Bionicle. I mean, I can sort of understand them going away from that just because they wanted to differentiate themselves with Bionicle, but really, their target market, who's going to notice? Most of them have attention spans of lobsters.
[00:24:30] Speaker 1: And the people that do notice are going to be disappointed, so.
[00:24:34] Samiki: Yeah, but still, Thornrax, man, if it had been someone else, I wouldn't care. But, you know, Thornrax, man, summer, man. That's new teal. Yep.
[00:24:44] LJ: Actually, actually, it's a, um, azure blue as these guys keep shoving down my throat.
[00:24:53] Samiki: Yeah, well, yeah. I mean, it's, it's pretty close to the end teals, which is why I like it. Yeah.
[00:25:00] Speaker 1: Anyway, to begin, we shall talk about Nex.
[00:25:06] Venom: Nex looks really good, but really bland. I agree.
[00:25:12] Speaker 1: My problem with it, there's nothing interesting about him. He is the definition of a cookie cutter hero. Uh, he has a white chest plate, but with orange printing. So, at first, it's overpowering, but then it starts to grow on you because you see he still has orange and, I don't know. There's, I, he's well-designed, but he's, there's nothing interesting about him.
[00:25:36] Venom: Yeah. I think his color scheme is a bit over the top. Not, definitely not as much as some heroes in this line, but I think that, um, I, I think if they just got rid of, like, the gunmetal and the black and just made them all, like, white and orange, he'd look really good.
[00:25:53] Speaker 1: I agree. Because I don't even mind the gunmetal. But my problem with it is, he's got the orange, the white, the light gray, the black hand, which he has underneath his launcher, which completely throws everything off. The gunmetal and the orange, then trans light green, and then trans medium green for the eyes. Even though a trans light green headpiece exists. So they, I, eh, a lot of colors.
[00:26:18] Samiki: I don't think the colors are so bad, the colors themselves. It's just, the layering is also off. I mean, it's like, because orange on white, and then white on black, and then orange on white and gray, and then gunmetal on top of that. I mean, it's just, it looks like a really poorly designed custom thing.
[00:26:41] Speaker 1: I don't even mind his arm with the laser on it. I don't mind the...
[00:26:46] Samiki: I see they've got, they brought back one of those, I still think of them as the old Star Wars, Lego Star Wars guns. Yeah. Unless they're pretty old-fashioned then. The last Lego Star Wars that I got was like, what, 2007?
[00:26:59] Speaker 1: Well, that's the only set I have, that's the only set I have that piece from, so I am with you there.
[00:27:05] Samiki: So yeah, but the, the, but the main beef I have with this is the print, why is it printing on the torso?
[00:27:10] Speaker 1: Well, they're printing on their torso, Suiki.
[00:27:14] Samiki: Well, I don't, I don't understand why, I mean, I, I don't like, um, stickers. I hate stickers. I, I hate them with a passion. But hey, at least you, you have the option with stickers, not put them on, and therefore make them easier to use in other things that you build with those parts. Instead, these, these parts limit themselves in custom creations, just by virtue of them having two colors. So these are parts that have one color.
[00:27:45] Speaker 1: For the people that use them that way, and I use them that way in custom creations, so I feel your pain. It's that, it's really a detriment. For people that just make hero modifications, one thing I love how they did, you know the old chestplate for the 2.0 sets, right?
[00:28:00] Samiki: Yeah.
[00:28:01] Speaker 1: Not only can you fit that on there, but it fits on and covers up all the printing. So if all you're looking to do is a hero mod, you're safe. If you're looking to use them in more intricate designs, you're not safe, but there's always the option of modifying your pieces by removing the printing. But some people don't want to do that.
[00:28:17] Speaker ?: Yeah.
[00:28:18] Speaker 1: Yeah. Next costs $8.99 USD, so he's fairly cheap, I guess. I guess it's a good value for what you pay, but the actual set is kind of, it's good. It's just nothing extraordinary. And the colors are kind of... The value's pretty good. Yeah. Alright, so next up is the set that has got so much mixed reaction, because every time he's appeared, he's been posed incorrectly and built incorrectly, and this set never gets a good rep XT4.
[00:28:52] Venom: I think he looks amazing. IMO. I think this is a really, really cool set. Lego hasn't really done anything like this before, so I'm really liking it. I think it looked good.
[00:29:04] Speaker 1: I've seen him pose how he's supposed to be, and when he's posed how he's supposed to be... It's good. Like he's built now, I think it still looks good, but I could do without the hero core. The tubes are in the wrong place. His claw hand is flipped backwards for some reason. His arms aren't supposed to be in that order.
[00:29:24] Venom: You don't happen to have a picture of, like, one that actually, you know, he is posed, right, do you?
[00:29:30] Speaker 1: I can get you one, but it has confidential markings on it, so, like, we can't...
[00:29:34] LJ: Alright, we can't discuss it, but that's okay. I gotta get... I gotta get my say in this. I despise this set with the burning section of a thousand suns. I don't even know why. You see, I understand what they were trying to go with this set. You know, what they were trying to do with this. And I do like that claw up on his, uh... One of the back claws. But the thing that really ticked me off about this set is the fact that it's just a lack of, uh, armor. It just kinda bugs me. And that torso armor. The torso armor looks very awkwardly placed to me. Because it's up and down, and it doesn't really cover the upper, somewhat upper chest as well as I would like.
[00:30:22] Venom: I mean, he's a robot. Is he supposed to be a bad guy?
[00:30:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a bad guy. He's supposed to be like the scrap parts junkyard robot that probably worked.
[00:30:32] Samiki: Why the heck does he have a hero core? I mean, that makes no sense.
[00:30:36] Speaker 1: Well, first of all, your mics kind of being weird and making interesting noises.
[00:30:41] Samiki: Sex dominates.
[00:30:43] Speaker 1: Well. But yeah, the reason he has a hero core is all the villains and every single set in HeroFact, through this new wave, have hero.
[00:30:52] LJ: Like now, they have hero.
[00:30:54] Speaker 5: Yeah, they all have hero cores, though.
[00:30:57] Speaker 1: And the reason they all have hero cores, uh, let's see. The reason they all have the cores is because you know the mediocre online game, Brody Couch?
[00:31:11] LJ: Oh my god! You know, that's not going to work.
[00:31:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, your mic is dying, I do believe. It shouldn't shake. Oh my god! Yeah, they all have the cores because you get extra points for said game, and no one cares to redeem them, I don't even think you can redeem them. I think it's broken and they never fixed a bug when you can't redeem them, but nonetheless, it's there.
[00:31:44] Venom: Yeah, and I think it really pulls off the Junkyard Scrapbot really well. It looks like a robot, it looks awesome, and it's not like your standard humanoid robot, and I like that about it.
[00:31:56] LJ: I probably wouldn't have as much of a problem with it if they fixed that chest armor, and they took out all the yellow.
[00:32:04] Venom: I like the yellow. One thing I don't understand, though, is I'm looking at the legs right now, and the first picture of it, did they add an extra thigh piece at the top of his left leg, or what? It's like obnoxiously longer than his other leg.
[00:32:19] Samiki: Yeah, they posed it wrong. Yeah, I can see how this thing would be hard to pose. It's back, by the way, and yeah, it would be. Yeah, I changed it.
[00:32:28] Speaker 1: One of the reasons why I enjoy it is because it works with the light gray bones, because he has light gray buzzsaw and silver, which is kind of the same thing, those daggers. So it's the only set where those pieces don't stand out horribly.
[00:32:44] Samiki: Yeah, as usual, I disagree with LJ. I really like this set. I mean, I think it's always good, but you've got those triple-jointed legs that people have been using in BBC for just about forever, but now they're actually, you know, they're being used in an official Lego set. So that is really good, and it has a whole otherworldly feel to it. Once again, the colors are actually decent. The color layering is actually pretty darn good. And then, well, I understand his beef about the torso, because I think it could be beefed up quite a bit. The head's a little small, but other than that, I mean, I think this has a lot of potential. I think this only does something for it. I can understand how people would be a little miffed about not having, you know, not having enough armor on it, but still.
[00:33:35] Speaker 1: Well, you know what I think would look better?
[00:33:36] Speaker ?: What?
[00:33:37] Speaker 1: Size 4 armor on a torso instead of size 3. Yeah, possibly. I'm going to try that when I get it. Yeah.
[00:33:43] LJ: Yeah. I do, I will have to say, I do like that head. And like I previously mentioned, that, yeah, that claw piece earlier, MSO. I'm going to steal our thunder here, as you probably mentioned, that gear piece in the center of the head on the eye. Yeah, that's cool. If you look closely at... Lagged out at... At.
[00:34:04] Samiki: Okay. While he's lagging out, I'd like to say this one thing I didn't get to mention earlier. Those feet, those feet look awesome. I cannot wait to get my hands on some of those, just to see. I mean, when's the last time we got new, um, new interesting feet designs? They're 2.0s. Aside, I mean, aside from those, I mean, those were not very interesting, I mean...
[00:34:25] Venom: Yeah, those weren't very special, those are just regular feet, pretty much.
[00:34:28] Samiki: These are really interesting feet, I mean, I can't remember any feet like this since, I don't know, Mantax back in the bracket.
[00:34:34] Speaker 1: They've been out for three years. What? The what? The pieces are two years old, or the pieces are two years old.
[00:34:43] Samiki: When they first used, I don't recognize them.
[00:34:45] Speaker 1: They were used in Bintin, and I believe sand green and brown, and they were used in watchaw from last year in red, and now they're in yellow.
[00:34:55] Samiki: Huh. Huh. Well, they're in a new color. I'm going to say some case by saying that.
[00:34:58] Speaker 1: It is excellent new color.
[00:35:01] Samiki: The yellow's all, yellow's always good. It's not key-to-range, too, so, you know.
[00:35:05] Speaker 1: Correct, and that makes me ecstatic, so.
[00:35:09] LJ: Why do you all hate key-to-range?
[00:35:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway, because it's his ugly use.
[00:35:13] Samiki: You're ugly. This thing just doesn't work, it's just, like, you said, like, a yellowish-orange mish-mash, and you can't use it with any of those other colors, because they're too close to the color wheel to actually work.
[00:35:25] LJ: Yes, they work, you're just, you're just.
[00:35:28] Samiki: Well, you have no tastes.
[00:35:29] LJ: You have no tongue. You have no taste, bud.
[00:35:35] Venom: All right, I need to make moving on. This next set is highly disappointing to me.
[00:35:39] LJ: Dude, this is my favorite out of this whole line.
[00:35:42] Speaker 1: Okay, okay, okay, okay, before we actually look at this set, I have a picture to show you all, and I know the listeners cannot see it, but this will make a lot of things clear to you.
[00:35:53] LJ: Yeah. Huh. Yeah, better.
[00:35:55] Samiki: Good grief, he's holding a guitar?
[00:35:58] LJ: Yeah, man, dude. Okay, so this set, Jimmy Stringer. Audacious! This set, Jimmy Stringer, this is probably my second favorite incarnation of him. The only problem I have with this set is the fact that he only has one transparent blue part, and the rest is all solid color.
[00:36:16] Speaker 1: Which is...
[00:36:18] Venom: I honestly cannot... Yeah, I don't know if that's what I like now, but... I honestly cannot stand his blue and black color scheme. It looks good, but I like Stringer's old color scheme so much.
[00:36:32] Speaker 1: I agree.
[00:36:33] Venom: And this just really disappoints me.
[00:36:35] Speaker 1: I have no clue why they changed it, it's kind of a weird decision.
[00:36:38] Venom: Yeah. I wouldn't mind if they had chosen this color scheme or this set for anyone else other than Stringer, but I really love the orange and black, and I love the yellow and black. And I just think a lot of work so well, and I love... That was why Stringer was like my favorite set, like in the 3.0 line, and now they've changed his color scheme, and I'm just so disappointed.
[00:36:54] Speaker 1: As much as I love the trans-blue, and the fact that the printing is silver, which does not sound out as much as some other printings.
[00:37:01] Samiki: And they look like sound waves, by the way, so that's also another reference.
[00:37:05] Speaker 1: Yes, that possibly has the most story consistency out of any HeroVectory set ever. Yeah.
[00:37:11] LJ: Um, the one thing is... I wouldn't mind if these parts were key to orange, just for consistency. I actually would mind that, now thinking about it, because, very quickly in your head, look at that set and imagine all of those parts you see immediately in blue as a bright orange.
[00:37:30] Venom: Uh, that actually does stand out to me. Okay, well, no, and if I would have done that, if I would have done that, I would have made the torso black.
[00:37:38] LJ: Mm-hmm, yeah. If the torso was black, that would not have been as much of a problem, but there's still the contrast between the orange up against the gray legs. Yeah, why are their legs gray, anyway? Uh, they've been that way.
[00:37:52] Speaker 1: Because the leg is stupid.
[00:37:53] Samiki: Oh, look, he has speakers on his shoulders.
[00:37:56] Speaker 1: Why are his upper legs gray, and his upper arms black?
[00:37:59] Samiki: Yeah, I mean, at least they're covered a little bit by the armor, but, you know, he has speakers on his shoulders.
[00:38:08] LJ: Yeah, so here's how many sound references this set makes, just on its own. One, two, three, four. On his chest, he has the waves, the sonic waves. On his shoulders, he has speakers, amplifiers. His helmet has a speaker on the top of his head, and it has, like, a microphone at the mouth. And his weapon is quite literally in the shape of a guitar.
[00:38:30] Speaker 5: It doesn't get... It looks more like a banjo.
[00:38:33] Venom: Look at the picture that's supposed to look at the picture. I'm looking at it. It looks nothing like it. I mean, it looks really... I can see they were trying to go for that, but honestly, it doesn't look like a guitar at all to me. It looks really bad.
[00:38:43] Samiki: I see Jimmy Stringer, so, you know, if you want to count that, you want to count that.
[00:38:47] LJ: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yep. More than no one talks.
[00:38:58] Venom: It just got silent, and there was, like, a ticking clock.
[00:39:01] Samiki: Okay, that would be mine. Can I have to go to another? I think maybe a little more...
[00:39:07] Speaker 1: The reason I like it is because this is the best representation of a guitar, which can be done with Hero Factory part. I don't think it would do better if it was technique, but I love how it looks as it is. As absurd as it is. A gun guitar. Who would use this practically in combat?
[00:39:23] Samiki: Yeah, I think practicality is irrelevant if your weapon looks cool.
[00:39:27] LJ: Yeah, I think, honestly... It doesn't look cool to me, though. It's really stupid. It does, doesn't it? With this, honestly, I think that with the parts they had, it was the best that they could have done. Because even looking at it, you get the semblance that, yeah, it minorly does look like a guitar. It's not exact, but it does it just enough so you understand, hey, this is the Sonics dude. His name is Jimmy. Yeah.
[00:39:54] Speaker 1: You get the reference, at the very least. You get what they were going for. Even if it's not a guitar, you get it as an instrument because he's strumming it.
[00:40:01] Venom: Yeah, I get what they were going for, but I just don't like how it looks. I think they could have at least made something... One new piece that could have made this, like, so much better. But, nah. And honestly, it just looks so bad. The neck just looks so poorly designed.
[00:40:17] Speaker 2: Hold the neck. Looks good, doesn't look like Stringer.
[00:40:20] LJ: I think the neck is fine, considering it's supposed to be a blaster as well. So that's forgivable in my eyes.
[00:40:26] Speaker 1: Also, I thank you for giving me the idea of changing his colors, because what I'm doing, I'm going to give... I'm going to replace all the blue armor with orange, and yeah, I'm going to get the torso black, even if it has no printing. Give him the hero core. See how he looks then.
[00:40:41] Samiki: I think the whole thing is that, beforehand, you have... Long advance picture. Anyway, before with the other previous incarnations, if I remember correctly, it was black on... Orange as the color scheme. I'm thinking especially 1.0 here. And now you have, if you switched out the blue for some sort of yellow-orange, cute orange, then you've got... It would reverse the color layering, which I don't think would look bad, but I really like the blue. Not just because I don't... I think it doesn't really look like Stringer, but it still looks... It still looks kind of good. I mean, I can't really fault the... I still look orange better, because orange is the best color. But yeah, this doesn't look bad at all. Perhaps I am biased.
[00:41:34] Speaker 1: Perhaps I am just biased, and in fact, I am 100% sure that I am biased, because Stringer is my favorite hero in story. He's always been my favorite hero, set-wise. This is my third favorite hero that was ever made, just because I like the character. I love the references, and I think the guitar works.
[00:41:52] Venom: I'm not going to lie, though. It's a really good set.
[00:41:55] Speaker 1: Just not as...
[00:41:57] Venom: Just not as Stringer.
[00:41:59] Speaker 1: Yeah. I get that. No.
[00:42:01] LJ: Well, there's only one place... Oh, sorry, go ahead. There's only one place to get a black torso right now, isn't there?
[00:42:08] Venom: Yep, and that.
[00:42:09] LJ: These guys are coming right up.
[00:42:10] Venom: Oh, my God. This set looks so amazing.
[00:42:13] LJ: The best villain, Aver... Lagged out at the best villain, Aver...
[00:42:19] Samiki: Seriously, yeah, this set looks awesome. The only thing I can find that's wrong with it is you've got these red spikes coming out of the black, and the rest of it's black on red, and you've got this weird core on this leg, like...
[00:42:34] Speaker 2: Which isn't going to be there.
[00:42:36] Samiki: I just completely removed that, I mean, if I got this set.
[00:42:39] LJ: It's not going to be there, so thankfully. Well, Meso, oh, very quickly, what's his name?
[00:42:45] Speaker 2: Core Hunter.
[00:42:46] Speaker ?: Ha, ha, ha.
[00:42:47] Samiki: His name is Core Hunter. What do you do? I hunt cores. Is it fun? Oh, yes, I hunt cores all day.
[00:42:57] Speaker 1: Just a little bit of story info on this guy, because Doric got a hand of his description. He is a Pearson that broke out of jail, and rather than fleeing to all the other planets, like the other villains did, he decided to hang back in the city where all the heroes live, and made it his mission to kill as many of them as possible before he was taken in. That is all he wants to do.
[00:43:22] Samiki: So he got, like, a good out of jail freak card or something?
[00:43:24] Speaker 1: Better than self-preservation. He is Hero Factory's first serial killer. Oh, that's great.
[00:43:31] Venom: This is quite an awesome set, story-wise and set-wise. The only thing I don't like about it, aside from the Hero Core that's not going to be there anyway, is that I think they need to add some kind of, like, red studs or something at the end of each of those, like, at the end of those eyes on his face, because it looks like the top of his helmet are his eyes, but those aren't his eyes. The eyes are on, like, the face. And it's really hard to tell, especially in pictures.
[00:43:57] Samiki: I know, right? The pose of the wagon is pretty cool.
[00:44:01] Venom: Yeah, especially the way they posed him, because he's basically looking at the ground. I don't think the people who posed him realized that those were his eyes on his face.
[00:44:09] Samiki: The people who pose these things must be absolute nubs.
[00:44:12] Speaker 1: They are. But it's not as bad as the London Toy Fair, where he was posed doing, like, a cartwheel.
[00:44:18] Samiki: Well, that just sounds stupid.
[00:44:22] Speaker 1: The thing that this set is he gets a lot of flack, even though people love him. He gets a lot of complaints for being generic. But I think that, yeah, he's humanoid. But I think that he, well, not only does he have back armor, but he looks menacing. He has a great custom weapon. He has, you know, an interesting launcher for once, because he has the bandolier hooked to his back armor, which in turn provides the spikes and whatnot. I think that it's, you know, I don't really have any complaints.
[00:44:49] Samiki: This is probably my favorite set.
[00:44:51] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[00:44:52] Venom: This in, this in, um, uh, wow, I forgot his name. What's the gold set again? Jeez.
[00:44:59] Speaker 2: Raka.
[00:45:00] Venom: Raka, yeah. I can't believe I forgot his name. Raka is great. Yeah, Core Hunter and Raka have to be my favorite sets. I think they go well together.
[00:45:07] Speaker 1: In the story, you could, uh, this is where Hero Factory shines. If you were like a little kid, and you loved these sets, and you really wanted to, you could rewrite the story and make it so Raka fought Core Hunter instead, and craft your own adventure. And I think that's what they're going for, now that you think about it. Yeah. But yeah, I love the set. Uh, and yeah, it has the black torso I can use on Stringer to mod him, so. Woohoo. Use $12.99, and I forgot to say, Stringer and the X-T4 are also $8.99.
[00:45:40] Samiki: Prices aren't that bad, actually.
[00:45:42] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[00:45:42] Samiki: They aren't. Well, I mean, usually, I think, if I looked at Quindra, I would say, you know, $15 or something. Yeah, that's true.
[00:45:51] Venom: And now, another discount. Now we move into the sky.
[00:45:55] Samiki: This is utterly disgusting. He makes me want to puke.
[00:45:59] Venom: This is another good set that was ruined by a bad color scheme.
[00:46:06] Samiki: I don't know what these set designers are even remotely thinking. Okay. What did they smoke before making these?
[00:46:14] Speaker 1: I have to go off into a little bit of a rant here, because I'm disappointed by this guy. Well, please do. Because when the preliminary pictures came out, it looked fine, because he had a lot of silver. His chest was silver, his upper legs were silver. Those orange pieces looked like they were transparent red to match his eyes. And now that the set is out, he has one, two, three, four silver pieces. And silver is his primary color, or rather, it used to be his primary color. Now his primary color is gunmetal. He has black feet and random orange on his upper arms, lower legs. Not to mention his gold chest pattern, his gold missile launcher, the transparent green on his missile launcher, the red limb on his back connecting the launcher to him.
[00:47:12] Samiki: I don't think the colors themselves would look bad together. I'm not quite sure how the set designers made it look bad, but they did.
[00:47:26] Venom: This is another thing with Stringer. It's just like, this looks good, but not as bold. Well, I mean, not as good as the Stringer set, but it still looks good. But I just think, I don't know what they're trying to do with these color schemes, but I am not liking it. Whoever's idea this was just needs to be fired.
[00:47:42] LJ: Personally, this is my favorite incarnation of bulk. I personally think, besides the colors. The set itself looks great, I have to say. It's a better layer. Yeah. Actually, the layering isn't my problem. My problem are the colors themselves, specifically the gunmetal. I would have liked if they had completely taken away gunmetal and replaced it all with silver. If they did that, I wouldn't have a problem with this set.
[00:48:16] Speaker 1: That'd look really cool. And it's possible to do that, so I'm going to do that.
[00:48:19] LJ: And I would have actually a problem if they replaced the normal silver with gunmetal. Because gunmetal isn't bulk. He's always been silver. If they made them all silver, yeah, then we'd have a winner here. But the way it is now, yeah, it is kind of problematic. But I do like what they've done with this set because they've kept them bulky. And, you know, you've got those parts of bulk that, you know, oh, hey, it's... Like the wolf. Yeah.
[00:48:46] Venom: Yeah, I think Stormer and bulk should have been switched around for that line.
[00:48:51] Speaker ?: Yep.
[00:48:52] Samiki: Yeah, bulk, I mean, I don't think the silver looks necessarily bad with the gunmetal. It's just that they're two metallic colors. That's it. They're two metallic colors, and they clash.
[00:49:03] Venom: Actually, I'd have to say the same for this line, too. Stormer and bulk should have been switched around again. Oh, yes, yes, absolutely. Their roles have been reversed too much. Anyway, we'll get to Stormer in a bit.
[00:49:16] Speaker 1: Yeah. Anyway, the next set is...
[00:49:21] Samiki: Oh, excuse me, but like, barf.
[00:49:23] Speaker 1: Another set that has mixed reaction at best. How do you mix it?
[00:49:28] Samiki: It sucks.
[00:49:29] Venom: Speaking of barf, it's basically like the set designers decided, okay, I'm feeling really sick today. Oh, throws up at the table. Boom, we have a set. There we go.
[00:49:39] Speaker 1: Okay. I'm going to say something about this set really quickly. I like it.
[00:49:45] LJ: Me too. I love this set. This is an awesome set. Okay, okay, okay.
[00:49:49] Speaker 1: Before...
[00:49:49] Samiki: Are you people colorblind or something? I mean, how many colors does this guy have?
[00:49:54] Speaker 1: The set is electricity.
[00:49:57] Samiki: He looks like he has puke jets coming out the side of his helmet.
[00:50:00] Speaker 1: Here's what I like about this guy. He looks like literally a guy that got supercharged with energy and is just walking around and the energy's crackling all over him. I like that his three primary colors are purple, gunmetal, and red, and everything else is accents to symbolize electricity.
[00:50:18] Venom: I personally...
[00:50:18] Speaker 7: They have accents, but they still clash.
[00:50:21] Samiki: I mean, purple and red together does not look good even if he didn't have all the extra things.
[00:50:27] Venom: Yeah, I agree with you, man. So I think he... Yeah, I like that. I just think it would look... Without the purple, it would look better. I hate to say that.
[00:50:35] Speaker 1: I hate to say that. But yeah, without the purple, it would look better. But at the same time, I want the purple to stay because it's purple, and I want that chest plate.
[00:50:43] LJ: Yeah, I agree with you. Personally, here's my take on it. And this is actually my favorite villain of this wave. Yes, I know people think I'm crazy, but here's my reasoning. I actually like the purple and red mix. I think it actually is a nice accent to each other, which is why I don't have much of a problem with this set. The problem I have with this is actually, once again, the gunmetal. Damn. I personally feel that's more out of place than the purple, and would have liked if they either replaced that with black or purple instead.
[00:51:19] Samiki: I wouldn't mind gunmetal, don't you? You haven't been dead against gunmetal.
[00:51:22] Venom: If that gunmetal was purple, that would have made this set, I think.
[00:51:25] Speaker 1: That would have been dead. And considering that the feet are black, it's not something that they couldn't have done, you know? Core Hunter has those ankle guards in black. The other pieces exist in black. The thornaxe launcher exists in black. The helmet exists in black. The gunmetal, I don't like gunmetal anymore. I think Hero of Factories overdosed me on gunmetal. 0.0 was ridiculous when it came to that, but no, at this point.
[00:51:54] LJ: Honestly, this set, I'm going to take this set and make a few modifications to it as a test. Like, the upper hips, those are purple, so the Joker. And yeah, basically what Mesa said for everything else. And you know, it would look like a really cool set.
[00:52:13] Speaker 1: It's so funny because my problem with him, I have two problems with him, and one is the yellow, and the other is the way the yellow is constructed. And I'm not talking about the electricity coming out of his face. That looks fine. I'm talking about the tentacle and the Xamor because they're a different color than the yellow on his face, and the way they're constructed just looks so shoddy. Like, he uses the old handpiece, two Mari tubes to it, which is going to make a possibility here in this. It has, like, a tentacle just coming out awkwardly from it. Not even going to mention the Xamor launcher, which has weird technique construction to allow for putting the random tubing all over him. And I'm going to make some mods to him, too, if I get him, which I may. As it stands, I don't mind it. It's not my favorite, like LJ, and it's probably not one I'll get. But I get why people don't like the colors. I think it kind of works. It could probably be better if you made the upper legs purple, like LJ wants to do. And it made the lower legs black, and the helmet black, and the launcher black. Huh. I'm going to do that. Yeah.
[00:53:33] Venom: Alright, so Stormer.
[00:53:35] Speaker 1: Okay, Stormer XL is the actual name, but, yeah.
[00:53:40] Samiki: Awful.
[00:53:42] Venom: See, this, like I said, this should have been Bulk, and Bulk should have been Stormer.
[00:53:47] Samiki: I agree.
[00:53:49] Venom: Just like in the 3.0 line.
[00:53:51] Samiki: They brought back that old helmet, which to me looks like a troll face. I made a blog post about that first time, and then I think it was, oh, I forgot who made it. I actually made a Preston Stormer troll-looking face. It was really funny.
[00:54:06] LJ: It was actually Zacitano who made that bad comic.
[00:54:14] Samiki: But anyway, I'm just looking at it now, and the chess piece is ridiculously huge, and if that wasn't enough, it also has imprints on it. So that's basically going to be the hardest. Stickers. Those are stickers? Oh, thank goodness they're stickers. My point is it's so big, it's going to be hard to use on anything other than some sort of chess piece, unless you're building, like, some Roa McToa-sized MOC or something. But also, but the proportions are just off, and I mean, you've got these huge legs, these even bigger lower legs with these huge gaps in them, and these tiny shrimpy arms, and then you've got these random sort of, like, limbs that are holding up his torso, but they're not even armored. And they could have been armored. I mean, you have connection points right there.
[00:55:01] Speaker 1: Okay, here's the thing about this, Zacitano. Earlier in the year, actually not earlier in the year, midway to 2011, people complained about Raka XL and Fire Lord on another forum, which I'm not going to mention, and a parts designer on that forum told people that we agree that Fire Lord and Raka XL were underarmored. The people at LEGO are just, we're getting used to the new building system we implemented. 2012, we'll see new pieces that will be designed to allow for better construction of titans. I didn't think by that he meant the chestplate, because that is horrible. I like the chestplate.
[00:55:45] Venom: I like the chestplate. Honestly, the only thing that throws this set off for me is that there aren't any shoulder armor. I think that would have added on to it, and that would have made the arms look not as shrimpy. But I think this set overall looks really good, in my opinion.
[00:55:59] Speaker 1: I think the set's good because it's unique, instead of being another Fire Lord build. That's why I like it. As far as the set goes, here's my problem. 124 pieces according to the box. Prior reports, it said 88 pieces. I have no way to know which one is true, because Speeded Demon has the exact same piece count, which I heavily doubt could be in a vehicle and all. So I think the boxes are mistaken.
[00:56:22] Samiki: Yeah, that doesn't look like 124 pieces now that I'm not looking for it. It costs $25.
[00:56:28] Speaker 1: That's not bad, actually. You know what I could buy for $5 more? Witch Doctor, a duplicate, which has almost 400 pieces.
[00:56:37] Venom: And for $10 more, you can buy the LEGO Minecraft set.
[00:56:43] Speaker 1: So, with this set, I, I, okay, you cannot see it in the main picture if you look at the, let's see if I can, does BCP have a picture of the side of his right leg? No, they do not. Okay. Well, on his left leg, he has printing or stickers, whatever it's going to be, just on the left leg. The right leg doesn't have anything. And I hate that, because it's asymmetrical.
[00:57:06] Samiki: That's stupid. I mean, I think it can be done very well, but you mean, you have to, it has to look good, and you know, I'm just, not, I've just seen some of these sets, I'm not very confident in the LEGO set designers anymore.
[00:57:17] Speaker 1: The torso is fine, I think. Um, the Hulk actually uses the same torso, and he armors up those limb pieces used to hook it onto the armor. I don't see why a Titan couldn't do that.
[00:57:30] Samiki: And I, just, just a couple extra, you know, two arm pieces. Yep. That's all that's necessary, really.
[00:57:39] Speaker 1: Stormer, smash! As a, as a set goes, I think it's fine. It's not something I don't pay $25 for, maybe $20. Maybe. Um, I, my problem is the stubby arms, the oversimplified legs, because they went all crazy with those friction joints.
[00:57:58] LJ: Like that, friction joint.
[00:58:02] Speaker 1: I was done speaking, anyway. The friction joints and stubby arms.
[00:58:08] Samiki: Yeah, overall, I think, hey, it could've done, it could've been done better. Doesn't look all that bad. Got a few combs, combs with it, but that's, overall. Not too bad.
[00:58:19] Speaker 1: Alright, then. And to cap off our Hero Factory discussion, the main villain for this wave, set which got all, which has got a lot of people talking. For better or worse, speed-a-demon.
[00:58:33] Venom: Okay, no points for that name.
[00:58:36] Samiki: Just, ugh. Man, I thought, which doctor was bad? You did? No.
[00:58:46] Speaker 5: You and I are gonna have a talk. In a dark alleyway. In a dark alleyway.
[00:58:51] Samiki: Not in its name. Naming witch doctor being, I mean, really.
[00:58:55] Speaker 1: We're still gonna have a talk. We're still gonna have a talk in a dark alleyway.
[00:58:58] LJ: And Venom's knife. Stabby, stabby, stabby. Yeah, that, that bike right there, that's gorgeous.
[00:59:03] Venom: I like it a lot.
[00:59:04] Speaker 1: Oh, I really like this set.
[00:59:05] Venom: Yeah, and I mean, speed-a-demon himself doesn't look too bad. I just don't understand why he has two hands on his back holding, like, wings or swords. I don't know what they're supposed to be, but it looks really weird.
[00:59:21] Speaker 1: They're supposed to be swords, and he's supposed to be driving along, and if people try to kill him, he'll just pick up his double hands and slash with his golden blades.
[00:59:29] Samiki: It's like, it's really weird. It's like Geno Grievous from Star Wars.
[00:59:32] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good.
[00:59:33] Samiki: Also, is that a purple scroll off-comer piece? It is.
[00:59:38] LJ: No, no. It's the new purple, not magical purple. You see, you see, that is actually a figment of your imagination. No, wait, it's gun metal. Yeah, you fish. It's gun metal.
[00:59:48] Speaker 2: It's a comic maker. Yeah, lol.
[00:59:52] Speaker 5: Yeah, because comic makers have the imagination, no, anyway. Oh!
[00:59:58] Samiki: Okay.
[00:59:59] Speaker 5: Cat fight.
[01:00:01] Samiki: So, anyway, yeah, this set, I really like it. Some of the middle parts of the Technic seems a little Technic-y. Like, they could have covered up some gaps in it, but overall, I like the color scheme. I think they did it well. They've got those Surge pieces that work very well as part of the engines. And, I mean, overall, it just, it looks really good.
[01:00:24] Speaker 1: They took a risk with a lime-gold and purple color scheme, and I think they worked. I think it works.
[01:00:28] Venom: It's probably the best color scheme out of all of them.
[01:00:32] Samiki: Not quite sure what they have. It's, they mix the trans, the trans light green with the lime. Yeah. But, I like it, though, because, you know, it's, it's trans light green. I mean, you can't argue with trans light green.
[01:00:45] Speaker 1: Yes, I can. And he has lightning bolt handlebars.
[01:00:50] Samiki: Also, the, the, the, the part that goes over the, um, headlights, um, if I'm looking at that correctly, it, it has a different color, which sort of threw me. But then I looked closer, and I saw the, it sort of looks like a, what, prototype, one of those prototypes.
[01:01:09] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a prototype. It's a piece on Stormer XL's arms.
[01:01:12] Samiki: Kind of like Iron Man minifigure's head, like we may get to later.
[01:01:16] Speaker 1: So that, so that'll have the, the gloss that, you know, it has on Stormer XL when it's finished, then it'll be purple, so.
[01:01:22] Venom: When I look at the front of the bike, I just see a Borogva.
[01:01:26] Samiki: Yeah, yeah. Oh, I cannot unsee. Oh, I'm going to get that, I'm going to get that set, and I'm, I'm going to build a Borogva. I'm going to get a profile with that, man. Purple Borogva, yes, yes, yes. Yes, yes, yes. I call dibs.
[01:01:39] Speaker 1: I call dibs. I would rather have taken a purple Borogva head, though, like on the Ferno bike where it was orange.
[01:01:45] Samiki: Yeah. Yeah. That wouldn't, that's not, I don't think, I don't think that could have been used as much, you know.
[01:01:51] Speaker 1: Here's my problem with it, though. Here's my, here's my one problem with this set. And I know I'm talking about this a lot, I know I just talked about it. We started off really good, now it's getting ridiculous. $35. Same price as the Minecraft set, $5 more than Witch Doctor, who again had like 300 more pieces.
[01:02:08] Samiki: That is worth it, but see, we got a lot of nice parts now, I mean, overall, I think, I think it is, it's more worth it than, like, you know, Voltix.
[01:02:18] Speaker 1: It's like the Ferno bike was only $30 and it was horrible, so.
[01:02:24] Samiki: I mean, Ferno bike had that orange, um, Borog chest, uh, not chest bike, but headpiece there, so.
[01:02:30] Speaker 1: Hmm.
[01:02:31] Samiki: So let's not know about that particular set.
[01:02:34] Speaker 1: Well, I had a bunch of other good orange bionicle parts. My problem was, unlike, like, the Caxiom, you couldn't do anything with it except leave it sitting in one pose, because the wheels did not roll independently, like the Hornadis or the Caxiom or this, you know, any of the Bionicle vehicles.
[01:02:48] Samiki: Yeah, that's pretty stupid.
[01:02:49] Speaker 1: It had a kickstand, so you could stand it up in one pose, and then you could ride it along with your hand, but you couldn't actually roll it. And with this set, it's the same thing, but he's taller, so you can use his feet to stabilize the bike and put it in different poses because of that. So. Anyway. I like it. One thing. I think it's a good set to cap off.
[01:03:12] Speaker 5: One thing, though, why are, I'm just wondering why they're using the Black Phantom head mold for the second time in the summer wave.
[01:03:22] Venom: In the same wave, yeah.
[01:03:24] Speaker 1: Well, it was kind of weird, and it is, it still is. The only thing that does not bother me about that is all the sets that you manage to have different attachments to make it look unique. Like, his horns, Black Phantom had his horns, Voltix had his lightning things. It's not like they're just using the same base headpiece and nothing else. Yeah. But it is kind of odd. I would have welcomed it back in the day, recolors. And I guess this helmet, if they're going to recolor a helmet, they should recolor this one because it's a good helmet. Yeah. But I would have preferred unique headgear.
[01:04:01] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[01:04:05] Speaker 1: But yeah, that's speed-a-demon. Speed-a-mice.
[01:04:08] Samiki: Stupidest name. Stupidest name. They might have just called it stupid-a-demon. Speed-a-demon.
[01:04:19] LJ: Well, we could have called you stu-micey, but we didn't. Stu-micey-wa.
[01:04:23] Samiki: Yeah, but whenever I'm going to see this set for now, I'm going to think of it in really tight, um...
[01:04:29] LJ: You know what?
[01:04:29] Samiki: I'm going to see speed-a-demon.
[01:04:34] LJ: Wow.
[01:04:36] Venom: Speed-a-demon.
[01:04:37] LJ: Okay. You know, I think it's time to move on.
[01:04:42] Samiki: Yes, please, let's. What's next?
[01:04:44] Speaker 1: All right, well, what's next is... Well, see, we are kind of pressed for time. Yeah, we are. We are going to talk about all of this, because it's, you know, a lengthy episode. Do you guys want to talk about Lord of the Rings?
[01:04:57] Venom: Yes, I do.
[01:04:59] Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's just briefly go over the whole line in general.
[01:05:02] Samiki: Yeah, and then we'll go for the rest for the rest, except maybe some of the construction.
[01:05:07] Speaker 1: What are you guys' thoughts on LEGO Lord of the Rings in general? Way too, way too overpriced.
[01:05:16] LJ: Indifferent. Oh, yeah.
[01:05:18] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I think people will.
[01:05:25] Venom: Gandalf arrives. It's a useless, pointless set. All ammo.
[01:05:31] Samiki: He looks like a traveling peddler with all the bunch of his junk in the back.
[01:05:36] Venom: Yeah, I don't know why they bothered even making this set. It's just kind of pointless.
[01:05:40] Speaker 7: And no, $13, too, for this piece of junk. I mean, it's got, like, the pony thing in front of it, but, you know, it doesn't really...
[01:05:48] Venom: Yeah, don't try. But doesn't Frodo's smile just bring you in? I mean, look at that smile.
[01:05:53] Samiki: I want to shoot it.
[01:05:55] Venom: He's got the smirk of a gun.
[01:05:58] Samiki: Okay, so this is completely pointless. Let's just move on to this random spider thing.
[01:06:06] Venom: Okay, this spider looks amazing. I love that spider.
[01:06:09] Samiki: Yeah, it's a really cool-looking set. They have all these eyes imprinted on them. Ah! Yeah, yeah.
[01:06:23] Venom: A little gall. He looks so weird. A fish, too.
[01:06:30] Samiki: Why does he have a fish? $20 for this? I mean, yeah. The licensing fees on this are just driving the prices through the roof more than I think we've seen in a long time, if ever.
[01:06:42] LJ: Yeah. And just think about the costs for a roof repair nowadays.
[01:06:46] Samiki: Yep.
[01:06:48] LJ: Although, the ring looks really good.
[01:06:51] Samiki: Yeah. You may have to sell these sets just to repair the roof. Ha ha ha. I do like the ring, though. I think that's nice and shiny and it's like, ooh, shiny, pretty thing. I know Elgin may be attracted to it.
[01:07:05] LJ: Yeah, like, um, you know what? Never mind. That's just not the same thing. Okay.
[01:07:10] Samiki: Yeah. Also, is that a new cape mold or has that been around before?
[01:07:14] Speaker 1: The ring? It's new.
[01:07:16] Samiki: No, I'm talking about the cape. The shoulder cape. Is that you? The shoulder cape. Well...
[01:07:21] Venom: I think that's... No, I'm pretty sure they use it with Star Wars.
[01:07:25] LJ: Yeah, that's been around, actually. Man, for Nemo, so you don't know all too much. Anyway, well...
[01:07:30] Venom: Shut up.
[01:07:31] LJ: Next.
[01:07:32] Venom: Mm-hmm. All right, this... The next set is also kind of pointless in my eyes. I mean, it's way better... It's way better than the, uh... The Gandalf arrives set, but I mean... Wait, what? An army consists of four people? Ha ha ha.
[01:07:48] Samiki: It's like, this isn't even a squad, really.
[01:07:52] Venom: It's not. I mean, there's only... They're, like, attacking a small little hobbit with a giant, like, barrage. I don't know. It just seems kind of stupid to me.
[01:08:03] Speaker 1: If you're going to call a set an army, make it an army and make it a bigger set. If you're going to... Well, make the expansion pack. Yeah, the... Well, I think that's what people are going to use it for. The expansion pack.
[01:08:16] Samiki: Yeah, that's what Black Six wrote in the thing. It said it seems to be a legacy of an army builder pack. $30 seems a little steep. I've got to agree with that. But if it's supposed to be an army builder pack, why do they include this completely pointless fort? Are you going to... Are you supposed to link those forts together, and you're going to have all these little... All these little armies attacking more pointless... I mean... You know what? At some point, I'm sorry to interject, but yes.
[01:08:42] Speaker 1: Yes, that is what you're supposed to do. I remembered something. You're supposed to buy multiples of those, as well as multiples of a set we're going to look at down the line. The attack on weather top. Connect them all together, and hook them to helms deep to make it bigger. That...
[01:08:59] Venom: Okay, that makes a lot more sense. Okay.
[01:09:02] Speaker 7: $30 each. People don't have that kind of expendable cash. I mean...
[01:09:07] Samiki: You can't be still afraid. I mean, people are just... $30 bucks. I don't know, though.
[01:09:12] Venom: I think I might actually pay for this. I don't know. That seems kind of cool to me. I might waste my money to pay for that. I'm not going to lie.
[01:09:19] Samiki: You don't be stupid enough to waste your money, but some of the people may not. Wow! Okay, that may have been Lord of the Rings. Yeah. Whatever. Okay, so, yeah, next is, what, the Orc Ford?
[01:09:36] Venom: This looks cool to me. This looks kind of cool to me. I like this. The Orc Ford.
[01:09:40] Samiki: It's going to be a retailer exclusive, and it doesn't look half bad, actually. It does.
[01:09:45] Venom: Yeah, and it comes with a decent amount of minifigs, too. Yep. $40, though. But once again, it's got a completely overpriced. Like, yeah.
[01:09:55] Samiki: I understand why they have the huge prices, because they have to pay all these exuberant royalties to, you know, the people who hold Tolkien's estate. But still, seriously, that's pretty freaking ridiculous.
[01:10:11] Venom: All the minifigs look pretty good, too.
[01:10:13] Samiki: That's true. Yeah, the quality of the sets is, probably minifigs, I think, the entire line are really, really cool. But overall, I just think the price points are just so prohibitively expensive. I don't see these selling, unless, you know, you get all these diehard nerds who just, you know, ogle over everything Lord of the Rings.
[01:10:36] Venom: Genie.
[01:10:36] Samiki: Quite. Wow. Diehard nerd. I never knew that about him. Cool.
[01:10:43] Speaker 1: But yeah. Then the next set, the Attack on Wethertop.
[01:10:48] Venom: I don't like this one. This one, I mean, it's kind of cool, but I don't know.
[01:10:52] Speaker 1: But Var, doesn't Mary and his carrot redeem the set for you?
[01:10:56] Venom: No. Mary can go die for all my carrots. Look at that carrot. That carrot is so large.
[01:11:06] Samiki: I don't know what magic they use in Middle Earth to grow their produce, or if that guy's just an incredibly dwarf person, or both.
[01:11:23] Speaker 5: Looks like he just came out of nowhere to say.
[01:11:26] Samiki: But still, that's a pretty serious carrot. Look, I found a huge carrot. That can feed a family of hobbits for, you know, three minutes.
[01:11:31] Venom: Hey guys, I got a carrot, yeah. Hey guys. Honestly, it looks like he took a green bone. It looks like he took a green bone, and I can get it in the top of the orange bones, and pull it out, and it's just dripping off his green bone. It just looks really, it doesn't look like a carrot. But I don't know. Oh look, it's Aragorn.
[01:11:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a rather interesting set. Yeah, I'm not going to lie, I'm not a fan of it, either. Yeah. But the carrot redeems it for me. Super carrot.
[01:12:02] Samiki: Now this next set is really... Staircases, what style of staircases? When were they last used? I'm not sure. Like, a while. A while back, I would imagine.
[01:12:12] Speaker 1: Anyway, next set is really cool to me. The mine of Moria.
[01:12:17] Venom: I am not about to pay 80 bucks for this, though. But it looks really cool, though. I'm not going to lie.
[01:12:23] Samiki: That might be the most realistic price yet.
[01:12:27] Venom: Yeah, probably.
[01:12:29] Speaker 1: When you think about what you get, yeah, it's probably the most...
[01:12:32] Venom: I'm loving the troll minifig. That looks awesome.
[01:12:38] Speaker 5: I hate trolls. I've had a bad experience with them on Skyrim. I don't know.
[01:12:48] Venom: So you said you had troubles on Skyrim trolls.
[01:12:59] Samiki: You know, I used to have trouble with trolls too, but that took me an error. I dare you.
[01:13:03] LJ: I dare you. Finish that sentence. Finish that sentence.
[01:13:07] Samiki: That's the only thing I know about Skyrim. That's the only thing I know.
[01:13:11] Venom: I took an error to the knee.
[01:13:13] LJ: Oh, no! We could have gone a whole two hours without hearing one of those, and you've ruined it. Ruined it!
[01:13:21] Venom: Oh, come on, man. I could have gone another two hours, but then I took an error to the knee.
[01:13:26] LJ: No!
[01:13:29] Speaker 2: All right.
[01:13:30] Speaker 1: Okay.
[01:13:31] Samiki: Anyway, back to the set and not just your meats.
[01:13:33] Speaker 1: The final set for Lord of the Rings.
[01:13:36] Samiki: Oh, okay.
[01:13:36] Speaker 1: And this is a set that's got a lot of people angry, but it definitely... The Battle of Helm's Deep.
[01:13:44] Venom: This set is so stupid! I would never waste my money on this. This is just... This is such a pathetic recreation of this scene that, I don't know, it just angers me.
[01:13:56] Speaker 1: For $130, Zavar.
[01:13:58] Venom: The last set looks bigger than this set.
[01:14:04] Samiki: What is wrong with that horse? There's something wrong with that horse. Is it trying to walk on two legs? Horse, why are you trying to walk on two legs?
[01:14:12] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[01:14:13] Samiki: Four dudes versus... What are you trying to do?
[01:14:19] Venom: Yeah, this looks really, really bad. I mean, it would be worth it if it was cheaper, but I am not about to pay $130 for this. This is ridiculous.
[01:14:30] Speaker 1: I think the reason that it's so small is because they want you to buy their sets to beef it up, but even though that's like another $30 per beef up, eventually you could probably get it to look good if you bought a bunch of Uruk-hai armies.
[01:14:44] Samiki: That's $30 a pop. That's really silly.
[01:14:47] Speaker 1: By the time you would do this, it would probably cost $210.
[01:14:50] Venom: You could buy a whole Star Destroyer for cheaper than this. I know, right? This is... I would not always spend anything on this. Yeah.
[01:14:58] Samiki: The only thing that really intrigues me with this is that the orange piece, it looks kind of randomly over there. Is that a new stud remover thing?
[01:15:07] Speaker 5: It looks like it is. It's a brick separator. Yeah.
[01:15:09] Samiki: Brick separator, that thing that's what I was trying to say. Is that a new mold for that?
[01:15:14] Venom: Yeah. Wait, where we're at? It's the orange thing.
[01:15:18] Samiki: I'll look at the first picture.
[01:15:21] Venom: Oh, look. The BZ Powers images aren't looting for me now. Darn it.
[01:15:25] Speaker ?: Oh, no.
[01:15:28] Venom: Oh, well. But, yeah. Cool. And such.
[01:15:32] Samiki: Eh. Except for that price. No, not cool. Not cool. Oh, my God. These would have been a lot better. I mean, we're always talking about the price with these. I mean, it's just... It's stupidly a lot.
[01:15:46] Venom: Yeah. I mean, these are good sets, too. They're all pretty decent. It's just that the price is just way too much.
[01:15:52] Samiki: Yeah. All right. Ready to move on to superheroes?
[01:15:55] Venom: Uh, yeah. We can just briefly talk about this one.
[01:16:00] Samiki: Okay.
[01:16:00] Speaker 1: Let's talk about the ultra builds in general.
[01:16:03] Samiki: What are your thoughts? The construction line. The Joker looks like Voltix, except, like, on steroids.
[01:16:09] Speaker ?: And high.
[01:16:12] Speaker 1: The Joker looks very solidly designed, and Joker is a part spec.
[01:16:19] Samiki: Joker, that sounds like a compliment to this set. I mean, they... Well, you're right. You just have a lot of cool parts in it, but... It's just ridiculous. Even for a guy who's supposed to dress madly anyway. I mean, why is he so serious?
[01:16:31] Venom: Well... I... Oh, no. Batman looks really awesome in that picture, though. I'm not gonna lie. I want those swords. I want those swords.
[01:16:40] Samiki: Why does Batman have a sword? Why does he have wings? I don't know. Why does he have...
[01:16:45] LJ: This is Batman. It's an oversized batarang, yo. You see, here's my opinion on all these construction sets. Batman has spikes on his back. The Joker is a bad parts pack. The Green Lantern has green. And Iron Man... Yeah. Iron Man's the best. That's it. Iron Man is the blunt out here.
[01:17:06] Samiki: It's like, Iron Man's the best, followed by Green Lantern. The part which used for the weapon of Green Lantern. Really, really impressed with that. I don't know why. It just looks kind of cool. Yeah. Also, look at where it's attached. Are they bringing back those two axles in black? Because if so...
[01:17:30] LJ: Yes, they are. Even better. Even better. It's used on the Ninjago sets. Be quiet. Is that so?
[01:17:39] Venom: Yep. Hulk is such a disappointment.
[01:17:44] Speaker 5: Hulk sucks.
[01:17:45] Venom: This set has so much potential. When you look at it, it's well designed. But the colors, once again, it has... I don't know why there's gunmetal. That should be green for one. And then that bottom torso piece, you can tell the set designers intended that to be like the bottom of the pants and the rest of his stomach. But the colors were... Like, the coloring was just so lazy that they couldn't make it green and blue. So it just...
[01:18:07] Speaker 1: Which, man? I don't know. It's because that's in blue on Batman. So they could have done it.
[01:18:13] Samiki: Yeah, I know. They could have done it really easily. And, no. The pants are blue. It doesn't look bad. They should be purple, though. I mean, this is Hulk.
[01:18:21] Speaker 2: Yeah. And those parts exist in purple. Yeah, I agree.
[01:18:26] Samiki: Yeah, so. Easily modifiable. The gun... They're gonna really...
[01:18:31] Speaker 1: At least he has a nice custom torso. At least. Yeah. Yeah, that's good.
[01:18:35] Venom: I mean, he isn't that bad. But I think the colors could have been better. Captain America looks really, really bad.
[01:18:42] Speaker ?: Yeah.
[01:18:43] Venom: I'm not liking that.
[01:18:43] Speaker 1: With his bulky, oversized shoulder pants. And his no armor on his upper arms. And his... Cool shield, but obnoxiously big shield. And his face, which... Has a huge chin.
[01:18:56] Samiki: He looks like Jay Leno.
[01:18:58] Speaker 5: He looks like a patriotic Batman. Without the ears. Again, what are the designers thinking? Batman with a different printer. Exactly.
[01:19:07] Speaker ?: So...
[01:19:07] Samiki: I just don't want to see what they were thinking here.
[01:19:13] Speaker 1: All the systems I'm seeing far look really good. Oh, yeah. The system sets over... Well-designed. Some stuff in them is shrouded in secrecy, because it's gonna spoil the movie, even though we already know what's in it, and it doesn't spoil the movie at all. In fact, it makes you stop and ponder what exactly... What is going on for the story for another day. Yeah.
[01:19:36] Samiki: They have a stoplight?
[01:19:38] Speaker 1: Oh, yes. That's about it.
[01:19:41] Samiki: I've seen the designs over the years. They've actually made it look better than I could.
[01:19:44] Venom: I really like the Hulk minifig. I think he looks pretty cool. Deadpool looks very nice.
[01:19:49] Speaker 2: Deadpool looks great.
[01:19:49] Samiki: Yeah, people are just ogling over Deadpool in... Yeah, Deadpool is great.
[01:19:55] Speaker 2: Oh, Deadpool looks really good.
[01:19:57] Samiki: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
[01:19:59] Speaker 2: I love Deadpool.
[01:20:00] Samiki: The thing is... The Iron Man minifigure...
[01:20:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, Iron Man is the topic that's getting the most discussion.
[01:20:07] Samiki: It's just like... It looks like a bobblehead. And then, Loki or whatever comes in that set... He has huge rabbit ears. And is holding a huge scepter.
[01:20:22] Speaker 5: Actually, Loki's helmet... What is wrong with... Loki's helmet is supposed to look like that.
[01:20:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how it sounds supposed to look like. That looks really good.
[01:20:31] Samiki: Yeah. Yeah. Well, anyway, it still looks stupid in Lego form. And I agree with Black Saints when he wrote... It looks absurd. It looks absurd. You're absurd. Quite.
[01:20:42] Speaker 1: Overall, it seems like the bobble waves are better than the DC waves... Because at least they're not rehashes of previous Batman sets. Yeah.
[01:20:51] Samiki: That Quinjit Aerial Battle? Man, that...
[01:20:55] Speaker 1: Okay, really quickly, for the sake of time... Yeah, the Quinjit Aerial Battle is great. Yeah. It's not even a battle. For the sake of time, I'm going to lump together... ...the most absurd themes in all of Lego currently. Monster Fighters and Ninjago. And we're going to go over them both at once. Yeah. Yeah.
[01:21:13] Samiki: What about the dinos that were lumped in from Monster Fighters? No new sets there.
[01:21:21] Venom: Oh, the dinos look really nice.
[01:21:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, they're out currently. And yeah, they're cool.
[01:21:28] Venom: Wait, so these are just rehashes of those old classic dinosaur sets they had?
[01:21:31] Speaker 1: No, they're new sets with new molds and, you know, stuff. And they're currently out in stores right now. They're good sets, but it's only getting one wave, which is out right now.
[01:21:42] Samiki: That second-to-last picture... That second-to-last picture looks like the Philociraptor meme.
[01:21:47] LJ: Don't do this. Don't do this.
[01:21:50] Samiki: No, I don't have any else besides that.
[01:21:53] Speaker 1: With Ninjago, we don't really care about the spinners, do we?
[01:21:58] Samiki: No. They're stupid.
[01:22:00] Speaker 1: Okay, so with Ninjago, here there are four new sets coming out for the summer. There is a, what is supposed to be a motorcycle, which looks nothing like a motorcycle, and it's a sneak cycle. And it's called Lashia's Bites Cycle. We have a giant samurai-inspired mecha robot, which is called the Samurai Mech. We have a giant tank that can split off into a helicopter, and it houses all four ninjas as they patrol the desert-fighting snake people, and that's called the Ultrasonic Raider. And then we have a giant four-headed dragon fighting various snakes, as well as one giant snake called the Great Devourer in a snowy winter wonderland, and that is called the Epic Dragon Battle. Epic Dragon Battle. Epic Dragon Battle.
[01:22:50] Venom: Oh my god, I didn't notice it had four heads. I only saw one the last time I saw this.
[01:22:55] LJ: I really like this. The four-headed dragon, especially the Ninjago, the Green Lantern pieces and the wings.
[01:23:06] Samiki: It's like Extreme Scopio. Seriously, I think that they really, they have a lot of potential here for the four-headed dragon. I think it looks absolutely terrible. They got all these spikes come out of the back of these random technique parts that are just sticking out. The parts are nice, but they've also got this, they've also got this, um, this blunderbuss-looking thing, which is attached to, uh... Yeah. That, I mean, it looks, I mean, it just, it looks awful. I'm, this is too much better, but I'm pulling for it right here.
[01:23:42] Speaker 1: Huh, that picture really speaks wonders about the dragon.
[01:23:46] Samiki: Oh, it just looks, uh, it just looks gross. I'm sorry. The main thing that I'm... That's pretty good. The thing about these other sets, the only set that really, when I first looked through these, I thought, why is there a ninja inside a repainted fighter jet? Just, why?
[01:24:10] Speaker 5: Look, this is like the most random line that LEGO has ever come out with. I mean, last year you got these...
[01:24:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, Ninjagoa is kinda weird.
[01:24:33] Speaker 5: Last year you got these random skeleton guys fighting these cool ninjas in all four, in all vehicles imaginable.
[01:24:50] Speaker 1: It's funny because, yeah, it's right, there were skeletons that were piloting, like, tanks and motorcycles, and now we have snake people piloting tanks and motorcycles.
[01:25:02] Speaker 5: Monster trucks, jets, helicopters...
[01:25:04] Samiki: That tank looking thing, that tank looking thing, but that's the best set, that's awesome.
[01:25:10] Speaker 1: We'll see, the tank thing doesn't belong in Ninjagoa, but it looks great, as I said.
[01:25:15] Samiki: It looks like a Ninjagoa set.
[01:25:19] Speaker 1: To me. It looks like the kind of set a villain would drive, but it's the ninjas...
[01:25:24] Samiki: Wait, that must be a good guy's?
[01:25:26] Speaker 1: Yes, the ninjas drive it.
[01:25:29] Samiki: Well, I guess it's wild, I don't know.
[01:25:33] Speaker 1: Hmm. And then the samurai mecha looks interesting.
[01:25:43] Samiki: Yeah.
[01:25:43] Speaker 1: I have to say, two little snake midgets firing themselves out of a catapult to try and punch the mecha with leaves.
[01:25:51] Samiki: But hey, at least they're not carrying huge carrots.
[01:25:56] Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I almost think the carrots would help.
[01:25:59] Samiki: It would increase the mass.
[01:26:00] Speaker 1: Carrots would probably be a more deadly weapon.
[01:26:04] Samiki: Yeah.
[01:26:05] Speaker 1: The cycle looks bland and generic, and then, yeah, that's it. Woohoo. LJ, do you have anything you wish to say?
[01:26:19] LJ: Well, honestly, I've seen, already seen, uh, large majority of these, and, um, you know, other medias. Uh, how, wait, first of all, are these vehicles at the ninjas' ride, uh, are those released yet?
[01:26:38] Speaker 1: No, wait, uh, yeah.
[01:26:40] LJ: Oh, okay, but, because I'm a little bit confused. So, basically, you're telling me that the only summer stuff for Ninjago are these little, uh, spinners?
[01:26:52] Speaker 1: The summer stuff for Ninjago is the snake motorcycle, the giant robot, the tank, and the four-headed dragon.
[01:26:59] LJ: Oh, yeah, okay. Well, the, the giant tank, I love this tank. This tank is the best.
[01:27:04] Speaker 1: Yeah. The ultrasonic reader, it's not a tank. Yeah.
[01:27:08] LJ: Oh, that's really awesome. The four-headed dragon is also extremely cool, although I should, I need to laugh, because you kept on telling me that those pieces in the back were Green Lanterns, uh, beam pieces. That's because in another picture it looked like they were. And now you're telling me that you're going to compare them and that they look real similar. Maybe in another picture at one angle, yeah, they probably did, but.
[01:27:32] Speaker 1: Yeah, not in this, not in these pictures at all. It doesn't, it looks nothing like that piece, but in the video and the pictures I saw from the Nuremberg toy ferret did. What was me?
[01:27:43] LJ: Yeah, and then finishing up that, that snake looks really cool. The snake looks interesting. Person. Person.
[01:27:49] Speaker ?: Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person. Person.
[01:27:49] LJ: Person.
[01:27:50] Samiki: . ...Ninjago.
[01:28:03] LJ: I've never really, in my eyes, ceases to fail. Well, I really think this is definitely no exception, because all these absurdity works for
[01:28:10] Speaker 1: it, which is why it's surging to the top of Legos, profits and whatnot.
[01:28:14] LJ: Or, matey, it's me doing a good job. Anyway? Lol, reference. I know things you do not, maybe, do, know. I know where you sleep. Yeah, in a bit. Oh. Thank you. Anyway. I'm scared for life. Lol.
[01:28:36] Speaker 1: But yeah, to wrap up our Toy Fair coverage, what are your thoughts on the overall theme of Lego monster fighters? Not cheats set in general, but the theme itself. Stupid. A bunch of guys with cybernetic, steampunk, prosthetic limbs, driving around old style cars, fighting all the popular movie monsters, like Dracula the Loch Ness Monster, werewolf, mummies, and skeleton horses, while firing poison out of airplanes, fighting ghosts.
[01:29:10] Speaker ?: You know?
[01:29:11] Speaker 1: It's almost as we were descending. Almost. Uh, yeah.
[01:29:15] LJ: No. Who thought this was a good idea? Uh, like... Oh my god.
[01:29:20] Samiki: You hear it in stereo here.
[01:29:21] Speaker ?: Yeah.
[01:29:22] Samiki: So is that it, folks? We can move on now, I guess? Orin Vin's opinions, but yeah, I guess we're done. Yeah, I don't have any opinions on it.
[01:29:26] Speaker ?: Okay. Yeah. He is apathetic.
[01:29:29] Samiki: Yep. Wahaha. Yeah, he's apathetical. You're just pathetic.
[01:29:33] Speaker 1: Wow. Wow, we're moving. No, wait, no. No, no, no. No, no, no. Mercy.
[01:29:39] Samiki: Yeah. Alright, what's next?
[01:29:41] Speaker 1: That's it, I do with you.
[01:29:42] Speaker ?: Uh, except for the comic maker spotlight. Yeah, well, our toy fair coverage is done.
[01:29:42] Samiki: For now, but we're gonna have more stuff to review next week.
[01:29:43] LJ: I figured we were just gonna, like, end it sooner. you're just perfect I am no no wait no the call mercy yeah all right what's next that's it I do
[01:29:57] Samiki: with you except for the comic maker spotlight well our toy fair cover bridge was done for now
[01:30:05] Venom: we're gonna have more stuff to review next week I figured we were just gonna like kind of end it
[01:30:10] Speaker 1: sir I'll did you want to do your spotlight today or do you want to wait till next week do you like what
[01:30:20] LJ: anything works although my personal advice is that we cut it here all right that's all we'll do to know
[01:30:26] Speaker 1: we're gonna cut our spotlight short since this is a segment this is a special after all not a regular episode this is all about toy fair we didn't use yeah the news was relevant kind of yeah it was it's just that you it's a about Lego sets this one time next week we back to the bland mediocre world of toys yeah of Toys R Us sales and uh um various no one cares about so thank you for listening hey
[01:30:52] LJ: hey what about the comic maker spotlight everyone cares about that exactly no one cares about that no
[01:30:57] Samiki: one cares about that everyone cares about the most spotlight all possible
[01:31:00] LJ: the other one that sounds horribly bland yeah anyway now when lj's hurling his caprylic comments I'm just painting a picture of perfection for you sneaky the perfect picture you know
[01:31:25] Samiki: yeah for those who are not aware that word caprylic means smelling like a goat oh I thought
[01:31:33] LJ: you said acrylic because I'm a comic maker wow oh well on that on that note we shall now end this so
[01:31:45] Speaker 1: thank you all for listening we'll be ready we will return next week with our regularly scheduled nonsense
[01:31:50] Speaker 2: I am Masodak I'm Borodaran I'm LJ I'm Samiki I'm Venom and this was TTV special toy fair 2020 well coverage oh my god Shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh.
[01:32:34] Speaker ?: Sous-titrage Société Radio-Canada
