Today, and for several upcoming videos, I'm going on a toy shop tour with some friends. Here's half asleep me to tell you the rest. It's about 8:45 in the morning on a Friday, and I'm about to head out on a toy shop tour across Los Angeles, but I'm not going alone. I'm meeting up with my buddy, Dave Apuzzo, maybe a couple of his pals too, and we are gonna be checking out a few different stores, the first of which is Rare Formula down in Torrance. I'm pretty stoked. Let's go. What's up, Dave? - Hi. - Nice to meet you. - Good to meet you. [00:01:19] Speaker 2: - Nice to meet you. [00:01:20] Speaker 1: This is Russ. - What's up, Russ? How's it going, man? [00:01:22] Speaker 2: Nice to meet you. [00:01:23] Speaker 1: - Oh, you already scored some stuff. [00:01:25] Speaker 2: Goodwill, yeah. - I got some Buc-ee's. - Oh, wow, yeah, sure. - Power line thriller. - What? - I don't know, like a weird mashup. - I mean, yeah. - The Goofy Boofy there. You guys got Zilla. [00:01:34] Speaker 1: - Sweet, that's a sick shirt. Oh, that's awesome. - Are you ready? - I'm ready. You guys ready? - Yeah, oh yeah. [00:01:40] Speaker 2: - I looked at a few photos behind you. - Come on in. - What's up, guys? - Hey-o. - O'Rourke. [00:01:47] Speaker 3: - What's up, dude? - Oh, yeah, man. [00:01:49] Speaker 1: - Okay, so here we are walking in the front door. We've got, it's just a plethora of stuff. I don't know where to start. I'm just going to pick this first aisle on the left here and just get a good look at what's happening, give you a little taste. I'm already seeing Dino Riders and Battle Beasts and Food Fighters, so you know this place is right up my alley. We're looking at Mad Balls. There's Godzilla. This place has got everything I could possibly want. There's no way I'm not going to walk out of here with a bunch of stuff. Not sure what yet, but there's certainly plenty that fits right up my aisle. So I'm pretty freaking stoked to dig in. Got some computer warriors over here. We've got this, the soccer ball playset. Another one of my favorite, these frog fighter dudes with the horse, the ninja, ninja hero riders. I grabbed one of those at Geekin' Out, but I can always use more, right? There's another one with a sword in a box. That one's called the Terror Toad. Got to love that. Some crash dummies, some beast wars, of course. There's a Spanish language trash bag bunch in package. Dude, that's freaking awesome. Mighty Max, look at them. Conan the Adventurers in package. Those are pretty great too. The turtle football, Raphael, love that. And down here, some later series Z-Bots. Not surprisingly, I walked away with one of these. This guy's name is Saber T from the Series 4 Creepy Creatures series. He's got this kind of biting action. Now, this is something I actually saw a few months back at Geekin' Out. My buddy Doc from Doc's Crealities imported this piece, and now it's landed here at Rare Formula. Here's a quick flashback to give you a little more context. [00:04:40] Speaker 3: You recognize this? This? That is the original, the Neco Mold, out of Rude Ralph. [00:04:46] Speaker 1: There's a Rude Ralph, and there's the original from the Mold. That's crazy, dude. [00:04:52] Speaker 3: And this right here is the original 1982 license in spread to gadget. [00:04:57] Speaker 2: And what about this? Is this the one for Trick or Treat Studios? I believe so. That's crazy. [00:05:04] Speaker 1: The detail, yeah, I would think so. [00:05:05] Speaker 2: What are you using to price that at? [00:05:08] Speaker 3: It wouldn't be too crazy, but obviously it would be expensive. [00:05:11] Speaker 2: Tell me, just hit me with it. I'm just curious. [00:05:13] Speaker 3: He's obviously in the $5,000 range. Yeah, okay. And then what about the Rude Ralph? The Rude Ralph, he's more in the $15,000 range. $15,000, wow. I think that's where that one needs to be. What did that set you back? A couple hundred bucks? Add a zero. [00:05:29] Speaker 2: $200,000! Well, there's a little knockoff head popper. [00:05:36] Speaker 1: So here's the thing with Snailians, right? I have all the loose guys, but no armor and none of the minis. So this could be a contender for pickup today. And that is exactly what I did. Now, as I mentioned, I already own all the Snailians and the Lunartix loose, and I've had them proudly displayed in this bottle crate on my wall, along with my Food Fighters, some Deka Kinkeshi, and Laramie Party Favor robots. So Roosevelt here is going to throw off the balance a little bit, being the only one with his armor and his buddy companion. But that's okay. I'm just going to have to deal with that for now until I can track down all the others. After all, having some goals is part of what makes toy hunting fun. And speaking of toy hunting, let's get back to it. What are these Street Shark knockoffs called again? These little ones? [00:06:26] Speaker 3: They're Ocean Warriors. [00:06:28] Speaker 1: Ocean Warriors. That's right. Super cool. Shout out to VHS Crypt for this little carrot dude. I might need this, this Dino Rider right here. He might be coming home with me, depending on what else we see today. I'm going to have to make some strategic pulls probably today. Take a look at everything before I commit. Definitely in the maybe pile. Speaking of, some Battle Beasts with weapons. And I'm always looking for weapons. So one of the classic Boglins. Yeah. Some Street Sharks. What's that one? Is that a regular Street Shard? I've never seen that before. And then that dude back there. What is that? Something about these bootleggy dudes. I don't even know what any of them are, but they just have a certain je ne sais quoi. Dick Tracy stuff. Leo creature. That's pretty cool. Some solid Star Wars figures. And hey, look. A couple of my dudes. Here we go. Dino Rider's got, I don't know if that's all the armor, but he's pretty armored up. That's a special piece right there. And then over here, a muscle mutt. I'm not even going to look at it. No, I'm going to look. I'm going to see. Is there a price tag on it? It's probably on the back. It doesn't matter. It's well out of my range, but they're still so cool to see anytime you see them. Humanoids back there. We all consider it in a humanoid today. We'll see. We'll see what else pops up. It's definitely on the table. Star Trek. Some Hellboy. Some Food Fighters. My dudes. Everybody loves Food Fighters, right? It's looking pretty nice. Mine has like his paint all missing on his face on the Frenchie. This one's a lot cleaner. Do I need to upgrade? Again, maybe. We'll see what happens today. Sektors. Look at that Sektor with that big, thick mustache. That dude's the man. Sports Freaks. Someone says that's a sports freaks. Something like that. All right. That's what I really need. Maybe not. Yeah. Didn't need that. But I did need a couple of those Trash Bag Bunch figures. You guys know about these guys. I talk about them all the time. And next, it's Trash Ore, the neon-clad armored skeleton garbage warrior. I've still got a few to go, but I'm definitely making some progress on the checklist. Mighty Crusaders has a nice deep cut toy line, all on card there. Those are pretty cool. It's like this little chubby robot dude here. I forget what this thing's called off the top of my head, but a killer toy for sure. It's a box exosquad behind it. There's a glow skull, skull glow, whatever. Dude, this place, they got it. They're bringing the heat. Some tiger mask. Figures. Those are dope. These are from Japan for sure. [00:09:58] Speaker 2: Imports. [00:10:01] Speaker 1: Dude, they just got a ton of great weird stuff. Check out that Freddy. That thing is sick. Here's something I've never seen before. This, this sting. What, what's going on with this sting? Maybe it's from that series. [00:10:17] Speaker 3: They kind of have the same, the same build to them. [00:10:21] Speaker 1: Demolition with their masks. You never see them with their masks. That just doesn't happen. If you're a wrestling figure collector, there's plenty to choose from here. Not my bag nowadays, but certainly tons. They even got the, the retro style ones on card too. [00:10:38] Speaker 2: Man, see a Mettlar over here. He's a nice one too. Like that one's super, super clean. That's a sick figure. [00:10:48] Speaker 1: And you can see it was loved. It has the initials of the original owner on the bottom. Which like, you know, may take away from some of the value, but it adds some character. There's a Bill and Ted there. I've got to kind of stop and admire. Okay. We got some more stuff in this corner here. A lot of modern stuff. This part, this stuff's not really my jam. We got some, some vintage turtles down there though. Some Hasbro's. I mean, the store's got everything from every era. This monster here. There's something called the Max FX Freddy. It's like a doll that you just dress up as Freddy. He's just like a regular guy. You put a Freddy face over it. Yeah. I'm like, I don't know. What a strange idea. [00:11:30] Speaker 4: Lights, camera, action. There's a man called Max. He's in his special effects. Special effects. Hey, Fred. Thought you were dead. Put your face on Jason. Special effects. Special effects. [00:11:43] Speaker 1: So here's where things got really interesting. One of the shop owners showed us this Battle Beast 2 pack, which although it contains very common Battle Beasts, this particular pairing of the horse and the boar is rather unusual. So much so that we decided to reach out to one of the experts to get his thoughts. Wait, so Karp, Dave, the other Dave. The other Dave. He's saying that he's never seen that combination before? [00:12:09] Speaker 2: He says, I've never seen that beast combination before. [00:12:12] Speaker 1: Ooh, that's big money, Dave. That's rare. That's rare. So that's rare. So what do you even, how do you come up with a price on that? [00:12:19] Speaker 3: Um, well, I mean, the sealed ones go for like $800. Yeah, they're a lot. Yeah, totally a lot. So, I mean, now that, since I know it's kind of rare, I mean, it's priceless. [00:12:30] Speaker 1: Scary. [00:12:31] Speaker 2: Let's go check it out. Let's go check it out. [00:12:33] Speaker 1: Here we go. A rare pairing of the horse and the boar. Mint on card. Now I'm going to grab a selfie. Now just to be clear, Adolfo and Lori at Rare Formula are very fair when it comes to pricing. Ultimately, they're not going to jack this price up to unreasonable levels. So if you're interested in this rare piece, reach out to the shop and have a conversation. In the end, they just want to get toys into the hands of people who will appreciate them. So don't be afraid to ask. I feel like I glossed over this somehow. They've got Dino Saucers with the boxes here. And these are foreign language. So these are actually South American Dino Saucers. There's a couple more over here. I didn't even notice. Jesus. These are so freaking cool. Look at them. We've got some mask vehicles. Looking smooth. We've got the figures inside them with their masks on. Look at that. Here's a Mad Balls thousand piece puzzle. I don't think it's very vintage Super 7. But even still, it's Lobulous. He's the best one, right? Dave, you spotted the My Pet Monsters up here already, right? The My Pet Monsters. You saw them, certainly. [00:13:54] Speaker 2: Oh, man. My luggage ain't big enough, though. Or is it? [00:14:00] Speaker 5: I always love these big-ass Godzillas. I have a few. I don't have room for more, but that doesn't mean I don't want more. [00:14:09] Speaker 1: I didn't even look at these at all yet. Let's see what's over here. This booth has got some cool Lucha stuff. It's got that Disney Yeti thing. Whoa, look at that crazy Moe Tussle. Is this Spanish language? Los Amos. I didn't know they did that. Some odd-looking next-gen characters. I've never seen these. Oh, look at this set of bootleg biker mice from Mars figures. Those are cool as hell. That white one in particular is jumping out at me. All right. We're in a Trap Ninja Collectibles booth now. He's always bringing the good stuff at Geekin' Out, and his booth here is not surprisingly still full of cool stuff. Some great Kamen Rider Japanese figures. It's got some Turtles, Toxic Avenger a little bit. Samurai Jack stuff. You don't see that very often. All the Beetlejuice play sets. The Vanishing Vault, which is a great one. Some Box Z-Bots. That's f***ing sick. And then there's the Battle Beast Lunchbox, which is tempting me right now. Is my wife going to get mad at me if I come home with the Battle Beast Lunchbox? Or is she going to be proud of me? Maybe not proud, but she might approve. She's very tolerant of my love for Battle Beasts. I think she sees the appeal, so maybe it'll go okay. Maybe. If I get it. Over here, we got some Monster in My Pockets Series 3s. Some Pokemon stuff down here. We got dinosaurs on card. Those are always fun. Now, I'm supposed to be keeping an eye out for Mrs. Muscle on Universal Monster stuff, but this is only $30. That's really not bad. I'd like to take a look at the mummy there. Yeah. Yeah. My wife's a collector of Universal Monster stuff. And that's pretty cool. And $30 is very reasonable. Dude, that's so cool. I think I have to get this for her. It's so cool. It looks great. The Kenner Hasbro Universal Monsters Mummy from 1998 in box. Definitely feels like a good purchase, and I know my wife is going to love it. That's why I'm very thankful that Chris, the employee who opened up that display case, came over to me a few minutes later with something else. A matching Wolfman from the same series. Aside from Creature from the Black Lagoon, Wolfman is my wife's favorite monster, so I've definitely got some good presents to hide in the back of my closet. G.I. Joe collector display case. Put 12 Joes in there. Lots of figure art stuff. Some pop vinyls. Who gives a s***? There's a little pile of my dudes muscle. I don't need them, but I have to look at them. It's kind of a requirement. [00:17:21] Speaker 2: These guys were pretty cool. You see these down there. Yes, they are. You took them out, and they pop apart, so you can change the heads and stuff. Yeah, those are fun. So we're taking a look at some of the personal collection in the back here. There's the green monster box and, you know, some cool Madball stuff. The Darkwing Duck vehicle. Great Garlu. All the big heavy hitters are in here. That Rat Fink is sweet. We got the Inhumanoids, the Super Soaker Man in box. That's pretty cool. More Inhumanoids. A full set of Food Fighters. These are pretty minty. They're looking pretty good, most of them. The color is vibrant on that Burgadier General. Carded Body Wars. [00:21:38] Speaker 2: The Madball. [00:21:39] Speaker 1: Oh, the Madball. I forget what that's called. [00:21:41] Speaker 2: Squorder is Super Mario Bros. movie, Carded. [00:21:45] Speaker 1: That's awesome. This is for your personal or is it for the store? Probably for personal. Personal. Okay. He's also going to take some monster warriors that we brought in from Chris at Toy Creed. Obviously, these guys are awesome. And then with that trade in, with that trade in, we've got the Spanish language trash bag bunch. [00:23:52] Speaker 1: Got all of that. Yeah. And then we've got the Sifubi. Sifubi, the Planet X Asia. Robocong. I'm glad you know this stuff. Because I don't know. Robocong thing. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then you got a Rodan Sifubi. This thing's beautiful. Yeah. It's beautiful. [00:24:07] Speaker 2: I'm actually really, really excited about it. So we're going to, with the little larva guy that pops on the back. Killer. And then the Nintendo body stickers. This is the artwork from what? The cartoon, Russ? Looks like it. I'd say so, because that looks like the, well, excuse me, princess. Well, excuse me, princess. I had already decided on all the stuff I had already shown you guys, but at the very last minute, something else landed in my lap. What just happened? What just happened? He held something up. He said, do you want this? And I went, I don't think I can resist. What is it? It is yet another of the Universal Monster dolls, but this is the Frankenstein. [00:25:26] Speaker 2: Loose. I may have walked away with a smattering of smalls for myself, but Mrs. Muscle is coming out of this toy hunt with some big additions to her monster collection. And there's the entire toy haul.
