Companies are building entirely new facilities from the ground up, custom designed to handle the insane power and cooling demands. Now, if these things are so expensive, so power hungry, and so demanding to build, why is everyone racing to construct more? Because right now, we're in the middle of an AI gold rush. At least that's the case if you ask the mega-course like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, who are pouring trillions of bananas into AI infrastructure. Infrastructure like AI data centers, which are essential for tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and, uh, co-pilot, I guess. To everyone else, the AI hype is just that. Hype. Hell, even OpenAI, the biggest name in the AI industry right now, has had their CEO claim that they won't be profitable till 2030. Combine that with an overwhelming failure rate, lack of adoption, and most importantly, unprofitability. It's no wonder so many are calling this whole thing a bubble. Massive investments keep coming in with no profits to show for it? Monkey finds it hard to believe this isn't another financial disaster waiting to happen. But the megacorps? They want AI in everything. And they want it now, regardless if the consumer asked for it. But the thing is that you've played these games before. Just take Microsoft, investing 80 billion bananas just to give Windows a completely useless and worse, potentially invasive AI assistant. Monkey doesn't know about you, but my goat Clippy would never spy on me. But what about the rest? Google, 75 billion. Meta, 64 billion. And that's just in 2025. Over the next five years, some analyst monkeys predict a toe-curling 3 trillion bananas will be poured into AI data center investments around the globe. In Northern Virginia, we're talking about over 300 data centers. As much as a third of the planet's internet traffic flows through that one region. Across the U.S. jungle, investigators have tracked over 1,240 data centers as of the end of 2024. That's nearly four times the number from 2010. But they're still going. Now, more than two new data centers are popping up every single week. Amazon alone owns 177 of them. Because when you crunch the numbers, the largest data centers can consume enough to power 200,000 homes for a whole year. And naturally, with such an astronomical demand and supply struggling to keep up, prices will go up. The question is, how much? Because this AI data center push isn't stopping anytime soon. Three trillion bananas in investment, remember? And here's where it hits your wallet. Electricity and water companies are building new plants and infrastructure to meet this insane demand. And guess who's paying for it? Not the megacore. It's Damien and his neighbors. See, households in data center heavy regions are already seeing electricity bills rise 10 to 20%. But in Virginia? An energy company claimed it would need to roughly double electricity generation by 2039 to keep up with data center demand.
