[0:01] In light of this evening's events, I ask that all Americans recommit [0:05] with their hearts in resolving our difference peacefully. We have to, [0:10] we have to resolve our differences. [0:12] And it was a very sad evening in many ways, but also an evening where a lot of people got together. [0:21] So President Trump calling for unity after the White House Correspondents' Dinner [0:26] shooting. He did various interviews here on Fox and elsewhere, including that late [0:30] Saturday night press conference from the briefing room with his entire cabinet present. [0:35] The Speaker of the House is now with us, Mike Johnson and Sir, good morning to you. First [0:39] time we've heard from you and good to know you're okay. We've got this iconic picture of you going [0:43] through the back hallway there. Just give us your reflection about your experience on Saturday night, [0:49] sir. Yeah, thanks, Bill. It was surreal for everybody involved when the chaos ensued. I was [0:56] up actually on a platform that raised platform around the perimeter of that giant ballroom and [1:01] I was stuck in a group taking photos with people. So I didn't hear the gunshots. And the next thing [1:07] I know, half my security team jumps behind me, comes behind me, rushes up, grabs me by the shoulders [1:12] and pushes me out the nearest exit door, which is about six feet behind us. And that's where you see [1:16] that photo where we're going down that hallway. The other half of my team went immediately to go grab [1:21] my wife Kelly and get her out of the another door. And we met up about 60 seconds later. We stayed, [1:28] we got, they took us to our motorcade, which was in the basement of the hotel. And we just sat in the, [1:32] in the trucks there and awaited for the developments for quite a while. And it was a, [1:36] that was a long while. It was quite a scene. I told the president last night, [1:39] we talked at length and I said, I thought your tone was excellent in that press conference right [1:43] after that event. And the tone that he's had since about that. It is, it is a moment, [1:48] a sobering moment for the country. We've got to unify and we've got to handle these things [1:52] together and recognize we're facing, uh, you know, real threats out there. It's a dangerous time. [1:57] So it's time for us to stand together. No doubt. If you just heard carrier bond talk a moment ago, [2:01] it's a new world and we can all admit that. And we're seeing this entirely too often. I do want [2:06] to emphasize this gunman never got inside the main room, but as we think about that, um, there, [2:12] there are big questions about the security around this president. I want you to listen to a former [2:17] secret service agent who was on our air over the weekend saying that they have not started to [2:22] re-imagine the new world in which this president faces threats. Listen here. [2:28] The threat level against the president has grown exponentially, [2:32] yet the secret service as an agency has refused to accept this and modify the way they do things [2:39] to account for this ridiculously high threat level. The secret service should never have brought the [2:45] president into that building to begin with if they couldn't secure the building. Regardless of how [2:50] far out that perimeter was extended, the public was already inside the perimeter. Have they failed [2:56] at a new imagination, sir? That's an important admonition there for someone who sounds like they [3:03] know what they're talking about. I can tell you from a layman's perspective, it did look a little lax in [3:08] terms of, as everyone's now noted, getting into the building. Now, we all came in cabinet secretaries of [3:13] government officials with their own details. We come in the back. So I didn't see the magnetometers [3:17] and all that, but it doesn't sound like it was sufficient. Look, we, this president has now had [3:22] three failed assassination attempts. I have been with him for two of those. It's, um, this can't go [3:28] on. He's the most attacked, malign political figure in history. He's very resilient, but he needs [3:33] greater protection. And I think there's going to be a reevaluation, a very close reevaluation of how [3:37] we handle these large events. Um, I can tell you the house is doing our job and our oversight committee, [3:42] chairman James Comer has already announced that we're going to have a review and a hearing with [3:46] secret service to see if there's anything that we can do on our part. If it's funding, [3:51] when does that happen? If it's something else, let us know. [3:52] I think it's soon. I don't know when they've noticed it yet. [3:56] Okay. You say soon. I wish, I hope we can nail that down, [3:59] because when Butler happened in July of 2024, there were hearings within weeks. [4:03] And there was already, there was already talk about getting this bipartisan commission together [4:08] and figuring out to make sure it doesn't happen again. But here we are, uh, three acts in two years. [4:14] They did that. Yeah. [4:14] Will you do that in the house? And will you tell us today how you define soon? [4:20] Uh, well, immediately. I mean, this week is, you know, we're hosting the king of England on, uh, [4:28] middle of the week, and we've got some major, well, we've got funding, for example, for secret service, [4:32] uh, to tell us ironically the department of Homeland Security, which is on the, uh, the, uh, the floor this week, [4:36] because the Democrats have been holding that up, believe it or not in this heightened threat environment. [4:40] They're willing to play politics. So we're doing it as quickly as we can. [4:43] I expect it'll be within the next couple of weeks. [4:45] And when we had that task force and that working commission to review Butler, [4:49] they did come out with recommendations. So, um, we'll continue to do what we can in Congress, [4:53] but we need the leaders, obviously the secret service, uh, to tighten up and they've got to reevaluate these things. [4:58] I think that that, that critique was right. [4:59] WHAT WE DO KNOW IS THAT SUZIE [5:01] WILL HOLD MEETINGS ON [5:02] PRESIDENTIAL SECURITY THIS WEEK [5:04] AND I IMAGINE THAT CANNOT COME [5:06] SOON ENOUGH. [5:07] I WANT TO SHARE SOMETHING THAT [5:09] A DEMOCRATIC SENATOR JOHN [5:11] FETTERMAN SHOT OUT HOURS AFTER [5:13] THIS INCIDENT ON SATURDAY NIGHT. [5:15] ON X HE SAID WE WERE THERE FRONT [5:17] AND CENTER THAT VENUE WASN'T [5:19] BUILT TO ACCOMMODATE EVENT WITH [5:21] THE LINE OF SUCCESSION FOR THE [5:23] U.S. GOVERNMENT AFTER WITNESSING [5:25] LAST NIGHT DROPPED THE TRUMP [5:27] ARRANGEMENT SYSTEM AND BUILD THE [5:29] DEMOCRATIC SENATE. [5:30] I THINK IT IS A LITTLE BIT OF [5:32] THESE THINGS THAT ARE EXACTLY [5:34] LIKE THESE. [5:35] ARE YOU HEARING ENOUGH FROM YOUR [5:40] DEMOCRATIC COLLEAGUES ON THE [5:41] TONE THAT SENATOR FETTERMAN STRUCK [5:43] THERE? [5:44] NO. [5:45] HE'S A RARE VOICE IN THAT CAMP [5:47] AND WE NEED MORE OF THAT. [5:48] IN FACT THEY'VE DONE THE [5:49] OPPOSITE. [5:50] THEY'VE INCITED VIOLENCE IN MY [5:51] VIEW. [5:52] I MEAN YOU HAVE SOME OF THE MOST [5:54] PROMINENT FIGURES IN THE HOUSE [5:56] AND THE SENATE ON THE DEMOCRAT [5:58] SIDE EFFECTIVELY CALLING FOR [6:00] THE MOST SECURE COMPOUND IN THE [6:02] WORLD. [6:03] IT WILL BE ON THE MOST SECURE [6:05] COMPOUND IN THE WORLD. [6:06] IT INCITES VIOLENCE BECAUSE [6:08] THERE ARE CRAZY PEOPLE IN [6:09] SOCIETY. [6:10] THEY GET RADICALIZED ONLINE. [6:11] WE'VE GOT TO RECOGNIZE THAT. [6:13] IT'S TIME TO TURN DOWN THE [6:14] RHETORIC. [6:15] WE'VE BEEN SAYING THIS OVER AND [6:17] OVER AND NOT USE THAT KIND OF [6:18] LANGUAGE.
