[0:08] This is the UFOPlast High Point National Monster Energy SMX World Championship [0:13] fourth Pro Motocross race of the year. [0:17] And the tide is turning very rapidly from where this series was coming in [0:21] to this race in Pennsylvania and where it is leaving in all the classes. [0:27] Charlie Cannon gets a victory in WMX. [0:29] Cole Davies, his first ever overall win in the 250 class, [0:32] turning the tide of momentum that Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki had built [0:37] the first couple of rounds. [0:39] And in the 450s, it's James Stewart, by the way, I'm Jason Wygant. [0:42] Hunter Lawrence got the win. [0:43] He's won a couple of these. [0:44] That's the third 450 Pro Motocross win of his career. [0:47] But to do it straight up where his brother Jet did not have an answer, [0:51] that speaks volumes going into this break. [0:53] Yeah, I mean, anytime Jet loses, it's a big deal because the guy never loses. [0:57] But some wins are bigger than others. [0:59] And I feel like with Hunter Lawrence, the way he won today, it's just different. [1:03] We've seen that version of him in Supercross. [1:06] Anytime he needed to do it, he did it. [1:08] I know what happened at Salt Lake, but it just shows Paula wasn't a fluke. [1:12] Like it was. [1:13] Jet was coming back. [1:14] Hayden Deegan was first race. [1:15] But what he did today shows that Paula can happen again because this wasn't close. [1:20] Just like Paula, it was not close. [1:23] And when you do that over a guy who looked great all day long, man, that is huge going into the off break. [1:30] And then this is huge as well. [1:31] This crowd, massive today for Father's Day weekend. [1:34] They were loud. [1:35] They were into it. [1:35] They're cheering everybody. [1:38] They're pumped up on Hayden Deegan, who was third overall today. [1:42] And then with the weekend off, the next race will be Redbud on July 4th. [1:47] It'll be absolute madness there, especially with this brewing battle. [1:52] Hayden actually seemed pretty happy. [1:53] He was third, and you know he wants to beat them, but he's still taking the positives and the confidence out of it. [1:58] Yeah, he is. [1:59] I mean, he should. [2:00] He's on the podium again. [2:02] And, you know, I think a little bit of that happens when he starts catching Jet at the end of the race. [2:07] Yep. [2:07] Like those are the little battles that anything that you can give any kind of guy confidence and you give Hayden any kind of sniff of that lead, [2:15] he's going to take it and run with it. [2:16] So you start to wonder, will that bite them at the end of the day? [2:19] Did they start relaxing too much because it allowed this dude to catch him? [2:22] And now he's like, well, I figured it out. [2:25] I'm able to catch him, and you hear him on the podium, and he's doing a great job. [2:28] It's a little different game against him. [2:30] We've seen the Lawrences race like that for so many years, and no one's able to really take advantage of it or get a hook in them. [2:37] But Hayden Deegan's a different cat. [2:39] Yeah, he is. [2:40] I mean, he hasn't raced them like that. [2:41] So he knows, everybody else in his class knows that game. [2:46] They're like, oh, man, they're just waiting. [2:47] Hayden doesn't know that. [2:48] No. [2:49] You know, whatever it takes, we've got a great series. [2:52] There it is. [2:53] Champagne shower, courtesy of Jet Lawrence there. [3:05] And I also got to shout out Cole Davies' dad, who, like I said, he didn't quite predict a 1-1 from his son Cole at high point, but he was darn close. [3:13] He hinted at it that when they got to these rutted technical tracks, Cole Davies would be tough. [3:18] And dad was right. [3:20] Ha, ha, ha. [3:21] I hate Deegan. [3:22] Fans have been great all day long. [3:24] Yeah. [3:24] Yeah. [3:25] I mean, Cole Davies, his dad's rider, but I think his dad understood what kind of rider Cole is. [3:29] And he knew, like, hey, he hasn't raced motocross in a while. [3:32] He didn't race with it all last year, injuries. [3:34] So it's going to take him a few rounds. [3:36] I mean, anybody coming off Supercross to motocross is a challenge. [3:39] If you haven't done it before, it is hard. [3:41] So I think it's more about he knew he was rider and how good he is rather than a Pacific track for me. [3:47] Cole Davies was dominant just like Hunter Lawrence, especially that second moto. [3:50] Oh, yeah. [3:51] And now everybody's got a week extra to think about it. [3:58] These are the highlights of High Point, Pro Motocross, and Monster Energy SMX. [4:02] Absolutely past the hillsides for a Father's Day weekend, but it's become a classic stop on the tour. [4:08] This was the long-running Memorial Day race in this championship. [4:11] Now moving to June. [4:12] A lot sunnier skies these days. [4:15] Great start for Hunter Lawrence in the first moto, but Jorge Prado is right there, and temporarily he's going to get the lead. [4:21] Yeah, Jorge Prado tries to slide up. [4:23] He actually gets on the inside of Hunter. [4:25] They bump, allows Cooper Webb actually into the lead. [4:28] Jorge makes a small mistake, but that didn't last long because the 96 was able to rebound, [4:33] and he just had a different focus by him today, to be honest with you. [4:37] From the jump, how he attacked his brother, that second moto, this moto. [4:40] Jorge gets around Cooper Webb. [4:42] As you see, Jett Lawrence closing in, but these guys rode great. [4:47] Now you're going to see Jett Lawrence go down the outside of Cooper Webb. [4:51] It's going to set him up the inside. [4:52] Now this is before Cooper and Jorge, they battled for a few laps. [4:56] It took a while for Jorge to get around. [4:58] Eventually he does, but as soon as he did that, Jett Lawrence was there. [5:01] He got around Cooper. [5:02] Now Jorge for second place, and he basically kind of rode off, and Jorge had to ride a lonely third for a little while, [5:08] because the two up front was gone, and this guy was way out front. [5:14] I'm going to say it a few times. [5:16] This was a huge win for Hunter Lawrence. [5:18] This was huge. [5:20] Yeah, we were waiting to see once Jett got to second, could he close in at all, and he did not. [5:24] So then moto two, rematch. [5:26] This time the brothers are one-two early, so now they're there at the start. [5:30] Got Prado and Plessinger in it as well, and it looked like Jett was about to take the lead here. [5:35] Well, I think Jett also was, I mean, even at first moto, Jett moved up in the second. [5:40] He put a few laps in, but he also said that Hunter Lawrence was too far up front. [5:44] Well, this just shows you how they know each other. [5:47] Hunter knows where I got attacked Jett Lawrence. [5:50] No free laps, nothing free. [5:52] This is Dylan Ferrandez going down, opening laps. [5:55] Dylan had a tough day. [5:56] This is the second big crash of the day for him. [5:58] So unfortunately, he was able to get up and ride off. [6:01] Jorge Prado, this is early in the race. [6:03] He's able to get around his teammate, Aaron Plessinger. [6:06] Hayden Deegan's still behind him, and we thought maybe Jorge would be able to, you know, hang on there. [6:10] But Hayden Deegan, just as he did in the first moto, not the best of stars, makes his way around Aaron Plessinger. [6:16] Now, the first moto, Hayden Deegan and Jorge Prado stayed this close that whole race. [6:21] Hayden wasn't able to get him. [6:22] But this race, Hayden Deegan had a better flow, better pace, and kind of Jorge didn't put up too much fight on the rookie. [6:31] Nonetheless, Hayden Deegan would ride off in third place. [6:33] His teammate, he's like, all right, I let you by earlier. [6:36] I didn't fight you too hard. [6:37] Let me do it. [6:37] Jorge, after a couple laps of stalking Aaron and not letting him by, Aaron had to continue to work. [6:42] Could you see that number? [6:44] 36 March Banks, Kawasaki behind him coming up. [6:47] But nobody was close to this dude. [6:50] This is just a statement, statement ride from the 96. [6:53] 1-1 today, just like we saw in the first race of the year. [6:56] It looked just as good to me. [6:59] And the points are nearly even between the brothers now. [7:02] A two-point gap for Jett over Hunter. [7:06] Deegan will take third overall. [7:08] We'll show you the results here. [7:09] He wins that battle with Prado in moto two, after Prado was just aiming to hold him in moto one. [7:13] So he goes 4-3 for third. [7:15] Prado then had that crazy fight with his teammate Plessinger late in moto two. [7:21] But Plessinger wins that one. [7:22] He gets fourth, pushes Prado to fifth. [7:26] And then it's March Banks, who is rocketing both of the charts each week in the overall and in the points. [7:31] He's right behind Hampshire for fifth. [7:34] Prado lost a lot of points with a bad run at Hangtown. [7:37] So he's way back. [7:39] And he combined the SMX points that Supercross and Motocross together. [7:42] Hunter Lawrence with a big gap over Webb and the idle Kenrocks. [7:46] And hoping Justin Cougar, by the way, can come back to racing maybe at Redbud. [7:50] Had a big crash at Hangtown. [7:53] And here's the rest of the guys. [7:54] Here's the key. [7:55] Jett Lawrence and Hayden Deegan have now moved into the top 20 in combined points. [8:00] And that would guarantee a gate for them in the SMX playoffs. [8:04] So we're going to get more stories from some riders that rode very well today, moments ago. [8:09] First, we'll talk to Katie, who I believe caught up to Aaron Plessinger. [8:11] K.P. out there today was a lot of fun. [8:16] I think the commentators had a good time with it. [8:18] But the smile on your face is telling me it was a good time for you, too. [8:22] Yeah, yeah, it was a fun day. [8:24] Yeah, this is a win for me. [8:27] You know, I haven't rode that good in almost a year. [8:31] So it feels good to get that monkey off my back and get up here and show the boys what I can do still. [8:39] And, yeah, I mean, dude, I've got to give it up to the whole Red Bull KTM factory racing team. [8:44] They've been behind me and pushing me. [8:48] And they believed in me. [8:50] And, yeah, I just got to give a shout-out to everybody out there or everybody over there. [8:55] And my bike was working great today. [8:57] And, yeah, it was a shame that I got hurt in Birmingham because it led me to not get much time on the bike before the season started. [9:08] And the season started quick. [9:09] And I didn't know how it was going to go. [9:11] So this is a huge win for me, especially on Father's Day weekend. [9:18] Happy Father's Day to my dad and all the dads out there. [9:21] You guys work hard. [9:22] So you guys deserve it. [9:24] But, yeah, I'm happy to be up here again. [9:27] And hopefully it gets better from here on out. [10:09] And to battle my teammate, it's pretty cool. [10:13] And just to have that, given how the first couple races went, in Colorado, I started up front. [10:20] And I shot back faster than, I don't know, a sack of potatoes. [10:25] And, yeah, so to get that done. [10:29] And I didn't even know we were catching him at first. [10:31] The battle with Garrett had me, like, squirreled out. [10:36] And we caught Jorge, and I was like, oh, shoot. [10:39] All right, well, let's go. [10:41] And, yeah, so it was a gnarly three-way battle. [10:45] And, yeah, it was just a fun day. [10:47] And now I can go home and be proud and not have to think about what I did wrong. [11:02] Well, Garrett Marchbanks, more improvement over the last couple weeks. [11:05] And similar to Jorge Prado, every time we watch it, you're in a just knockdown, drag-out battle every single weekend. [11:12] What do you think it's going to take to take the steps you've gone from here to get to the podium, which is where I'm sure you want to be? [11:19] Simple starts. [11:21] I mean, I keep working myself to death every weekend doing that. [11:26] I've got to be better. [11:28] It's pretty annoying at this point that I keep doing that to myself. [11:31] I've got to figure it out. [11:32] I've got to be better. [11:34] Teams working their butt off. [11:35] And for me to do that to myself sucks. [11:37] I mean, the speed's there. [11:38] I've just got to be better on the starts. [11:40] So all I hear from the team is how much you've worked, how much testing you've done, and how helpful you'd be to get the bike better. [11:46] Can you feel that starting to come around? [11:48] Like, is there steps during the week that are starting to show up on Saturdays? [11:51] Yeah. [11:52] No, bike's great. [11:53] I mean, teams work their butt off. [11:55] Brock's worked his butt off. [11:57] Me, you know, it's been a huge team effort the last couple weeks. [12:00] We've gotten in a really good spot. [12:02] I'm really happy with where we're at. [12:04] I feel like, yeah, at first we were, you know, a step or two behind at Paula. [12:10] We made, you know, two steps forward. [12:13] Hangtown, another small step in Thunder Valley. [12:15] I feel like we were in a really good spot today. [12:18] Just like I said, starts. [12:20] All right, well, here's to another step at Redbud. [12:22] Great job. [12:26] 250 class highlights for Pro Motocross and Monster Energy SMX, the Ufoplast High Point National from Mount Morris, Pennsylvania. [12:36] So it had been really the story of the Kawasaki's coming into this race, holding the point lead, tied with the teammates of Levi Kitchen and Seth Hamaker. [12:43] But Cole Davies is going to get a good start here, just though sneaking past is Casey Coffrin. [12:50] Yeah, Casey got that start and ran up front his first moto for a while. [12:54] You see Julian Vermeer slide in. [12:56] Cole Davies got a great start, but you notice he's not in that top five. [13:00] He actually started going back in the first of the big three, you would say, of the title contenders of Levi Kitchen to make a mistake early in the race. [13:08] Ends up going back and kind of stayed in that position, and it was Julian Vermeer after Casey led this race for a while. [13:14] Julian closed in, closed in, and then he was able to make that pass. [13:19] And at that point, you should start pulling away from these guys. [13:21] Kind of look like Cole Davies in the second moto. [13:24] Little mistake by Cole's teammate right here. [13:26] He's going to get up to inside. [13:28] That's Dugley. [13:28] And Cole had the flow, but still, even when he got past Casey Coffrin for a second, he didn't really close the gap on Julian Vermeer. [13:36] That was a nice pass. [13:38] Nice angle, by the way. [13:39] And then the moment of the race, out front, about eight, nine seconds, goes down, open the finish line. [13:45] Still leads that lap. [13:46] Goes down, but see how long it takes Cole to get here. [13:49] And this is towards the end of the race. [13:51] Julian's going to get up in second place. [13:53] Keep Cole on his butt, not close enough. [13:56] And then Joe Shimoto, this is going to be the theme of the day for him, especially in this corner. [14:00] You'll see soon. [14:02] Joe Shimoto is able to get up in that third spot after a bad start. [14:06] But Cole Davies hangs on. [14:08] Julian close to him, but Cole Davies wins moto number one here at High Point. [14:13] So well done for the kid out of New Zealand. [14:15] That's his third career moto win, but has not been able to convert those into overalls. [14:20] Another good start for Davies this time. [14:22] He said, I think I got my start figured out now. [14:24] I'd say he has. [14:25] Nah, he absolutely has. [14:26] You can see Julian right there, but Cole is not going to get past at this race. [14:31] In fact, nobody's really going to see him much after this opening lap. [14:34] This guy was on a different level this second moto, different rider. [14:38] And the other second co-points leader, Seth, that was a huge crash. [14:43] Opening lap came up. [14:45] We need to say short. [14:46] That bike hooked up on him. [14:48] It looped out, caught him by surprise. [14:50] Walked off the racetrack, but we'll find out more on him. [14:53] And that's where I was saying Joe Shimoda, another bad start, a so-so star, has to make his way up. [14:59] And with Cole Davies looking the way he does, Joe's going to have to figure that part out. [15:02] You can see Levi kitchen behind him. [15:04] Joe had to work on his teammate, Chance Hyman, who had a good ride going through that second moto. [15:08] So shout out to him. [15:09] Hopefully that only gets better, but Joe's able to get past him. [15:12] And then Julian Beaumere at the Cape, even near, wrote great this moto. [15:18] Julian's able to get to him in second place. [15:20] So he went 2-2 on the day, Julian that is. [15:23] And then Levi kitchen, this pass, while we're showing it, he's going to get around Ryder D. [15:28] I believe this is for fifth place. [15:29] But he actually been able to keep the red plate by this pass by one point over Joe Shimoda. [15:35] Brought everybody else in this field with Seth going out and everything. [15:38] But Levi still holds on to that red plate. [15:40] But the man of the day was this guy right here. [15:43] Different guy, little mini version of Hunter Lawrence. [15:46] And this guy can run away from this championship if they allow Cole Davies to win like this. [15:52] Yeah, big momentum and a big hug from Mom for the young man out of New Zealand. [15:58] There is another podium for Beaumere, who's also right in it. [16:02] Championship-wise, he's been great to start the season as well. [16:05] Shimoda said it wasn't his best day, but he still came up with third. [16:09] He had an unbelievable battle with Muneer on that tunnel jump, especially as you were alluding to. [16:14] Muneer, a solid run in Moto 2, the third. [16:16] It gives him fifth overall. [16:18] And look at these points in this championship. [16:21] This is absolutely nuts. [16:22] It is a one-point lead for Kitchen over Shimoda. [16:26] He has two points on Beaumere and seven points on Davies. [16:29] And it's so tight that Hamaker, despite having crashed out of a Moto, is still down only 16 points. [16:35] So all five of them, they're in contention. [16:38] Best case scenario for all these guys. [16:40] Really good. [16:41] Yep. [16:41] And a week off for everyone to think about it. [16:43] But they're going to have to think about Cole Davies a lot, because we already know what he can do when he gets momentum. [16:49] He did it in Supercross and won that 250 East title going away. [16:53] And that's why he has, when you combine the Supercross and Motocross points together, this big gap. [16:58] Kitchen and Hamaker, second and third in those playoff rankings. [17:02] All right, Cole Davies on top today. [17:04] Send it back down to Jason Thomas. [17:07] Well, thanks, Weech. [17:08] And I was setting up trying to think about what I wanted to share with all of you. [17:12] And I couldn't decide between, you know, high points, done and dusted, or it's all over but the crying. [17:17] But I think both work because it is so dusty over here in this section right now. [17:22] It's absolutely blown out. [17:23] And also, if I had to race, I would probably cry uncle if you put me out on this track right now. [17:27] But, you know, on a serious note, the tracks have been different in 2026 so far, and it really starts in qualifying. [17:34] I've tried to make note of it in the mornings. [17:36] The track is in prime condition in these qualifying sessions, but that's leading to really, really tricky hard pack conditions late in the day. [17:45] And I'm not sure if that has just been circumstance or if that's been purposeful, but it has been noticeable and it's been consistent so far. [17:52] So I'm wondering, will riders start pivoting what they do during the week? [17:55] Are they going to let the tracks maybe get a little bit more hard pack, a little bit, like, harder bumps that changes the suspension versus the perfectly groomed and perfectly tractioned racetracks that they practice on throughout the week? [18:08] Because as a former racer, I know that the bikes work differently, and the riders are probably dealing with that. [18:14] You can just see the little bit of discomfort they have in the second motos. [18:17] And, Weege, I know you talked to Levi Kitchen this morning about, hey, this is a lot different than what we're used to. [18:22] So I don't know where we go from here. [18:24] You know, we're going to go to Red Bud, one of the best tracks on the circuit. [18:28] It's America's national. [18:29] It's a racetrack that typically has a lot of traction, so maybe that bucks the trend. [18:33] But moving forward, maybe we see a shift in how these guys are preparing week to week. [19:26] How about this debut? [19:27] Just turned 17. [19:29] That means she can turn pro. [19:31] And Mayla Herrick off to the races with a hole shot. [19:33] Yeah, she came out this first moto, first ever moto in WMX, and was strong. [19:39] She was able to get away, about almost four or five second lead in that opening lap. [19:43] Normally, we're looking at the number one do that. [19:45] But you can see her down the middle of the screen. [19:46] She didn't get a bad start, considering some of the starts this season. [19:50] But that opening lap gap that she was down on the leader was phenomenal. [19:56] So she goes to work on McCutcheon for fourth place here. [20:00] You can see Nielsen in front of her, which she's going to work her way up in here in third place. [20:05] Nice pass. [20:06] And coming into this race, Lala was sixth, so we weren't really sure on how she was going to feel. [20:10] Well, she looked good this first moto, fighting all the way through. [20:14] And this was the last lap. [20:15] Van Drunen's in second. [20:16] But this was the rookie, the 17-year-old. [20:19] Happy birthday, winning her first ever moto here at Hotpoint, moto number one. [20:25] Unreal debut for Mayla Herrick. [20:26] That's on Friday. [20:27] Now, moto two, here's the problem. [20:29] Herrick is hit in turn one, and she's in the center of that pile and down hard. [20:34] Yeah, that was tough. [20:35] We end up having to red flag this and going from the high to lows of the sport, as that quickly can change. [20:40] This is with Charlie Cannon, who had a so-so day yesterday, probably disappointing for her, especially fighting this championship for Lachlan Turner. [20:48] And so, great opportunity, but understandably, we had the red flag to race. [20:53] Crazy moment in the race. [20:54] This is Van Drunen, who finished second. [20:57] That first moto, her hole shot device got stuck. [21:00] And so, they end up having to take her out. [21:02] They had to throw oil on their motorcycle. [21:03] There was a lot of stuff going on. [21:05] But second restart, it was the champ out front doing something she's done so far every race this year. [21:12] Pulling away, executing it, and being under the weather. [21:15] You knew she needed that gap. [21:18] This is Van Drunen coming up through the pack. [21:20] She did a great job at fighting, but that start, she was dead last off the gate, not riding with that hole shot device really cost her. [21:27] She's going to make her way up on the inside of Jarvis here for fourth place, but that was as far as she was going to go. [21:35] Moment of the race. [21:36] We've seen it a lot this year, a lot sometimes out front. [21:39] Usually it's earlier. [21:40] This is only with two laps left. [21:42] She gets cross-rutted, knocks the wind out of her. [21:44] Sick, tough. [21:46] She picks up that motorcycle, but it's kind of becoming a thing with her. [21:49] She's out front, and what's also becoming a thing is Charlie being there to pick up those pieces. [21:55] She needed this race, and to come back, first ever, second moto victory here, but first overall in WMX this year. [22:03] Charlie, exactly what she needed. [22:05] Congratulations. [22:05] That's your overall winner. [22:07] And Perseverance pays off, fifth in the first moto. [22:10] That's way below par for her, and she comes back to end up with the overall win with a 5-1. [22:14] And then Drunin went through pretty much everything you can go through in moto, too, but still ends up on the podium with a 2-4. [22:22] Well done for her coming over from Holland. [22:26] Nilsen fourth overall, Jarvis fifth. [22:29] And, man, get well soon to Mayla Herrick. [22:32] Not sure of her situation there with the injury in turn one. [22:35] What a debut it is. [22:37] Turner has a just six-point lead over Cannon, and now there's a large break. [22:41] WMX will resume for the final three rounds of this championship in August. [22:46] So we'll see what could change at that point for the WMX series powered by Synchrony. [22:55] Welcome back to the booth here, Jason and James. [22:57] So a weekend off, and not just any race when the series resumes. [23:00] I just cannot even imagine what that crowd, first of all, is going to be like at Redbud, [23:05] which just happens on America's 250th birthday to fall on July 4th, Saturday. [23:11] Amazing timing there that you could not plan. [23:13] And the crowd is going to be wild. [23:15] It's already been great so far this year. [23:17] And I'm going to start with the 450 class. [24:17] Hunter Lawrence is a different person. [24:19] And he showed you today. [24:20] And I would say we have a fight here in this championship. [24:35] As for the 250 class, it probably looks surprising to see this from Cole Davies [24:40] because the results haven't been there besides one good moto he really had at Hangtown. [24:44] But I think in the pits, and I think you and I thought there was a good chance [24:48] that at some point this kid had the talent, it was going to hit. [24:50] It just happened to take four rounds. [24:52] But I almost feel like it was inevitable that we were going to see this from him. [24:55] Yeah, and I think the hard part for the outsiders is it's easy [24:58] because Cole hasn't raced outdoors, so you don't know. [25:01] And he doesn't speak that much when we do hear from him. [25:04] But I know what I see. [25:06] That kid has talent. [25:07] His dad obviously knows how good he is. [25:09] Bobby has started racing. [25:10] We know inside the pits. [25:11] So to me, Cole Davies is one guy, even coming into this championship, [25:16] I felt like if he won early in the season, he can run away from this. [25:20] That's how good he is. [25:21] Unfortunately for him, there were some weird motos, [25:24] so we really wasn't sure what version of Cole Davies we got. [25:27] Well, if we get this version, I don't care who's racing. [25:30] This guy is hard to beat. [25:31] And we're going to find out next weekend, or a couple weeks in Red Bud.
