[00:00:00] Speaker 1: live update because we just heard uh opening statements from the prosecution as well as sam bateman himself i'm bringing you the latest on the false prophet trial this is not live streamed but i am in there all day every day bringing you the latest sam bateman from better known as um the shocking character in uh and criminal and horrific criminal in the trust me a false prophet netflix doc so a few things and we're gonna have a full update for you tonight um along with some footage because i could not believe what sam bateman was willing to say in there so it starts out by the way with prosecutions opening statements showing that body cramp footage that we all know well for those of us that have been following this case of the young girls getting out of the trailer we saw the toilet we saw everything in this trailer that was hot with no ventilation and no windows where they were traveling from colorado city arizona to flagstaff arizona over three hours and we saw some really heartbreaking things and then we learned that all of those those little girls that were in that trailer 11 12 and and 14 will be testifying against sam and they talk about how sam knowingly and willing you know did this and put these girls in in harm's way don't they don't share the relationship to the girls it's clear the jury's watching five men five women by the way diverse ages and ethnicities and they're watching and it's clear that you know there are prairie dresses involved hence this is the flds community i don't know what they're thinking but they're taking notes they're watching and so he says you know and essentially that was it like the three counts of of child abuse like this is what he he did to these girls and then sam gets up one of the most fascinating things about sam too is he uh spoke in such a quiet meek voice and i'm using meek on purpose because meek is a scripture word people say soft and meek um that the the the court reporter the court reporter had to immediately stop and say i can't hear him i can't hear sam bateman and so he started back up again saying by the way that he has a has a heart that would never harm anybody i was about to like jump out of my seat but also keeping a straight face because you got to keep a straight face and when you're sitting in a court gallery and the court reporter has to say it again i can't hear you and they're telling you got to speak up and it reminded me of warren jeff's and other sort of false prophets and manipulative religious um particularly mormon prophets that sort of talk in this very soft-spoken meek quiet voice and and you know we're used to these these abusers and these these men maybe speaking in like more of a given like a tony robbins seminar or something i don't know right um you know trying to convince the jury like i'm not i'm not a bad guy and and it was just like he kept mumbling and kept getting softer and softer he says this isn't my heart this isn't my heart finally they had to give him a new mic and uh one that he has to hold he apologizes that he's you know his his first time without an attorney he kind of let that slip and then just said he would never harm a child he would never ever put a child in harm so he would never abuse a child that he would not harm anyone and then he said which really ticked me off he said i'm a good father i'm a good father now those of you that have been following this case know that those those little girls in that trailer were not his children in fact they were they were child brides of sam bates and he didn't come out and say how he was related to them he didn't say they're my daughters but he certainly implied it by repeatedly saying i'm a good father i'm a good father i was i was blown away by that manipulation um like most criminals he's not as smart as he thinks i'm sure the jury can see right through him i'm not too worried necessarily but i just am just anyway this this meek voice and his his opening statement was essentially i didn't do this he blamed the victims they crawled in it's their fault where's the 911 call conspiracy and i'm just such a good person i wish you could know my heart and um i would never harm anyone repeat it over and over and over and over and then i would never abuse a child i would never harm a child and i'm a good father and when you know this story it's hard to swallow can't imagine um how some of the victims families are feeling sitting in there of course the victims who are testifying were not in there because they can't listen to any court proceedings before they testify which will be coming up next i believe right after lunch they're going to start with the youngest victims testifying and yeah anyway 10 jurors have been seated uh five men five women variety of ages looks pretty diverse and um eight will decide so to alternate so that's what's happening i'm gonna grab some lunch before i go back in but we will have a full update including footage of sam tonight so we we're gonna have footage of of sam bateman tonight a hidden true crime the false prophet in this state trial so tune in to hidden true crime hit subscribe hit because they can't be because they're testifying um there is a mix of of those uh i'll say this who are still flds and those who are were flds but are in street clothes so um you know mother of the victim still in her flds uh style dress but the victim in street clothes um it's interesting um people who are flds are very also very angry at sam and but then of course he he is going to have his
