On the Hunt for Toys at the Manchester Comic & Toy Con! Star Wars, He-Man, Transformers & More!

[00:00:00] Tom: Welcome back to the channel. My name is Tom and today I'm at the Manchester Comic and Toy Convention in Manchester, Connecticut for their July 2026 show. I've got a lot more toy shows and flea markets coming up. Thanks. I've never seen this before. This is an R2-D2 play set slash carrying case for your figures. This would have come out around 99 when the Phantom Menace did. They're asking $38 on it and I have no idea what that normally goes for because again, I've never seen that one. And then this is a Star Wars Power of the Force 2 figure from the late 90s. Not sure why that one's in a box rather than a blister card. So in addition to toys and comics, they also have a decent amount of video games here. This is a Sega CD title, which I do have a couple Sega CD games, but I don't actually have a console to play them on. And who remembers Captain Planet and the Planeteers? This was a cartoon that came out in the early 90s. I never really watched it, but I was aware of it. They wanted $40 for the lunchbox, which is actually brand new. It still has the original sales tag. And this is a G.I. Joe lunchbox. It says Live the Adventure. It was $30 and I would have bought this one if the sticker was in a little bit better condition. It was starting to peel just a little bit. That was one of the benefits of the metal lunchboxes. There were no stickers to peel off. Then I saw this poster on the ground. I am not sure if this is an original or a reprint. It's for the Empire Strikes Back. And it says, "Better than Star Wars." And I would say, yeah, Empire Strikes Back was better than the original movie. Didn't see a price on it though. Then on the top shelf here to the left of the Castle Greyskull is a wrestling superstars carrying case, which I have never seen before. They're asking $50 on that. And I don't know what that is. It kind of looks like a weird dragon version of Battle Cat. But yeah, if anybody knows, what series is that thing from? And there's a lot of great stuff at this show. On the top shelf we've got a Sega Dreamcast. It's $350. And I think that was an original Optimus Prime in the box. It's hard to tell though because they do have a lot of knockoffs out there. And then they also had some old VHS tapes here, which I didn't see a price on, but it's always good to see these. Here's Red Sonja on VHS. And I would guess that this was probably a rental copy. Almost certainly. Up on the top shelf there we've got Electronic Battleship, which I think that one's probably from the 70s or 80s. They're asking $50 on it. And then this is a Remco Monkey Division helmet from the 1960s. And I didn't catch the price on the video, but I think I remember it being something like $30. Could be wrong, but that's my recollection. And we've got tons of Masters of the Universe figures here. Lots of Transformer type stuff. This is a Mighty Mouse launcher. Not sure when this is from. There was no date on it, but to me it looks like it's either 80s or 90s. And they were asking $25 for that. And then I thought this was really cool. This is a Super Alternators, which was made by Tomy. And it was basically a knockoff of a GoBot or a Transformer. And according to that date it's from 1986. Now I see a lot of these, but I don't see them in the original packaging like that. So I knew I had to buy that. He had it priced at $20, but I did get it for a little bit less. Once again, there was a lot of great stuff here. And if I had unlimited money and unlimited space, I'd probably buy all of it. But sadly, I don't have either of those. So I have to be very picky about what I buy. And just for anybody that's not familiar with my channel, I'm not a dealer. I'm not a reseller. I'm not a flipper or picker. I'm a collector. So everything you see me buying these videos is for my personal collection. And basically I buy what I like. That's about all there is to it. [00:05:03] Speaker 2: What I like. But again, just like that other lunchbox, the sticker is starting to come off. And that seems to be a pretty big problem with these plastic lunchboxes that had stickers on the front. Tomy was like, I think they just did like weird robots like this that were similar to GoBots. Yeah. And maybe some of them mixed in with the GoBots. I don't know. And that's one of my Holy Grails. I do want to get one of those eventually, but I'm looking for one that's mint or nearly mint. And I've never seen one of these before. And if you haven't seen that video, please check it out. But ever since then, I've been looking for Pez now when I go to the toy shows and flea markets. And I'm looking for the older stuff. And I still don't know a ton about Pez, but from what I gathered, the ones with the smaller heads tend to be older. And the more modern ones have much bigger, more bulbous heads. So I'm using that as a way to hopefully tell which ones of these are new and which ones are old. And we'll get back to those Pez in just a minute. And then this vendor has a ton of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys. Probably the most I've ever seen at one booth before. But he's got more than just Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This I thought was interesting. At first I thought this was a Hulk Hogan impersonator. Because he looked a little bit too skinny to me. But I looked at it closer and that does appear to be Hulk Hogan. And that's some sort of juice mixer. It's a Thunder mixer. It was $20. And I'm not 100% sure when that's from. It doesn't look too old to me. Maybe 90's or 2000's possibly. I've got a Godzilla 1999 lunchbox in the back there. Jurassic Park Magic Rocks. Men in Black Zapp'em Van. And a bunch of loose Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And a bunch of loose Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. These were all priced separately. [00:16:37] Speaker ?: And a bunch of loose ones. I'm going to put it in the back there. [00:16:40] Tom: And then in this case here in the bottom right I'm seeing a pack of Topps trading cards called Video City. And they look to be video game cards. Which I have never seen those before. And I thought these hats were really cool. These are for the Balzac Balloon Ball. Which came out in 1989. And I very clearly remember the commercial for that. It was something like "Give Balzac a Whack." 1989. And you know as you can imagine. Being a 14 year old kid at the time. That was kind of funny to me. And it still is kind of funny. I couldn't get behind the counter. But in the back there they've got some really cool original G1 Transformers. Which I'm sure are outside my price range right now. But I love to see those. And they had a lot of the older Doctor Strange books. And I love the comics from the 60s into the 70s. That is like the most nostalgic era for me for comics. The 80s are cool too but the 60s and 70s are definitely the best. There's Shazam number one. It's graded in 8.5. It was 140. Here's Iron Man number 55. The first appearance of Thanos. It's a 9.4 and it was $2,200. This is Amazing Spider-Man number 300. The first full appearance of Venom. It was a 9.4 and I think that was 800. Here's Blue Beetle number one. It was a 6.5 but I didn't see a price on it. This is Fantastic Four number 52. The first appearance of Black Panther. It was a 6.5 and that was $1,000. Coming up is Tales to Astonish number 13 which is the first appearance of Groot. It's a 5.0. I didn't catch the price tag on the video but it was a few thousand dollars. And then this is Doctor Strange number 169. It was a 5.5 and sadly I had the price tag covered up with my thumb. How much are you asking on the X-Jet over there? From X-Men 97? When it comes to vintage video games I'm most into Sega Master System and Sega Genesis. And this is Aladdin for the Genesis. Sadly the box was damaged. And I'm the type of collector when I buy stuff I like it to be in as close to mint condition as possible. So when I see something like that I'll generally pass. And then this is Kid Chameleon. But I think that's a reproduction manual. Looked like a black and white copy. And then this is Ren and Stimpy. Stimpy's Invasion. Didn't see a price on this one. But generally speaking I'm trying to collect toys from the 90s in earlier. So anytime you're at a convention like this I would recommend looking at the boxes on the floor. Because a lot of times people don't see these. And they'll leave behind some really cool stuff like this right here. I can't see it. [00:23:36] Speaker 6: Oh Adam. Oh gotcha. Oh really? And according to what I read online they also made a version of this with a red lever. Which is a little bit more common than this one. And I guess they also made some other colored levers. But those were only available in other countries apparently. But I knew I needed to get that if the price was right. And then down here this is more Viewmasters and some Viewmaster reels. But sadly the case had a crack in it. So I did pass on that. [00:30:46] Speaker 2: And we've got Hang On and Safari Hunt for $8. [00:30:53] Tom: Already got that one. Now this is one I've been looking for for a long time. This is F-16 Fighting Falcon. And this is not on a cartridge. It's on a card. These were uncommon. But I remember seeing this when I had my Master System back in the 80's. And I always wanted to get it but I never did. And it was only $12 plus 20% off. So I was getting that for sure. [00:31:17] Speaker 5: This is Jungle Strike for the Genesis. [00:31:21] Tom: It was $20. And this was one of my favorite Genesis games growing up. And it still is. It's really a good game. These are Cuties which I think were kind of like the girl version of Muscle Men from the 80's. And they were $15 a box. If those were Muscle Men in the original box there, those would be probably a couple hundred dollars. [00:32:12] Speaker 3: Not $15. [00:32:19] Tom: And then back here I saw a Dukes of Hazzard breakfast set. So you got a bowl. Well, two bowls. Two different types of bowls. And a plate. Didn't see a price on it. But sadly that bowl had a crack in it. So I did pass on that. Don't like any cracks in my bowls. But yeah, once again there's a ton of great stuff here. Again, if I had unlimited money, unlimited space I probably would have bought most of this. And so here's what I decided to buy. The F-16 Fighting Falcon and the Tony the Tiger. I'll take these. So this was half. So that's six. Yep. And then this was 20% off. What is it 20% off? [00:33:05] Speaker 2: Yep. So what is that? So it would be $9.60. So we said this was six. So $15. $15. Yep. [00:33:13] Tom: I'm not too familiar with this but it's definitely some sort of Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus play set of some sort. And I love it when they put all the individual pieces in little bags like that because otherwise this would all get lost. And they're asking $25 for that. Here's some of those muscle men I was talking about. This bag of five was $10. Good. How are you doing? And I remember I bought a really big bag of those at the Curiosity toy show about a year two ago and I think it cost me something like $80. Then this is a bag of I think five different GoBots or knockoff GoBots. It was $20 for the whole bag so $4 a piece. And that's a pretty good deal. I don't know why I didn't buy it. I should have. I think 1998 was kind of late to have cassettes. At least that's my recollection. And of course we've got some more original Star Wars figures. From the late 70s, early 80s. I think that's a Snow Trooper. He was 40 bucks. And then this board game based on the movie Krull. That's unusual. I've never seen the movie Krull. I remember always seeing the movie's box at the video store back in the 80s. But I never have watched it. And we've got some original Cabbage Patch Kids. And Rainbow Bright stuff. I remember buying that when it first came out in the late 80s. And I loved it. I haven't read it in probably 30 years, but I remember liking it back then. Here's some more classic Silver Age comics. We got some early Tales of Suspense with Iron Man and Captain America. That was $20. Got another one there. Lots of great stuff here. And who remembers continuity comics from the mid to late 80s? I remember picking these up back when they came out. And I always thought they were just weird. They just felt so much different than Marvel and DC comics. I still have them. I don't think they're really worth anything. But I don't know. They bring back a lot of memories for me. That's for sure. Same with Now comics. That was a similar type of thing. And this is the real Ghostbusters. Not the fake Ghostbusters. This is the real one. And I still have my collection of real Ghostbusters comics. I have issue 1 through maybe issue 5 or something like that. I think issue 1 might be worth a little bit. But not a ton. Because they have the bigger heads than the ones you'd see in the 80s and earlier. I don't know what they were asking for those either. And here's a Sonic the Hedgehog lunchbox for $12.
