[20:14] Let's go to the latest on tonight's White House Correspondents Association dinner incident. [20:21] As many of you know by now, there were shots fired, there were a number of loud booms that were heard in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. [20:33] This is where President Trump was to speak tonight, the vice president was there, the White House press corps there at the time of this incident, [20:42] which was at about 8.30, 8.35 Eastern time tonight. [20:47] I remember watching from my house here in Alabama, you know, obviously not in D.C. at the moment, and saw what went down. [20:54] And it was eerily reminiscent of J13 only in one way, to see the SWAT team, to see the police, to see the law enforcement take that stage. [21:07] The president, the vice president, the cabinet staff all cleared off of that head table there at this event, and I knew something was going down. [21:17] So, of course, started posting on Truth Social and X as to what I was seeing. [21:22] I was watching on C-SPAN. [21:24] You know, it's just a thing to do when you watch for the White House Correspondents Association. [21:29] Of course, they have the rights to that, and it might be aired some other places. [21:33] But the point is, we know that President Trump is getting ready to address this whole incident that happened tonight at 8.30 Eastern time. [21:44] As soon as we see that feed to the White House, which right now it has not started yet. [21:48] So as soon as we see that feed, we'll take you there live to hear from the president himself. [21:55] I assume he'll still be in a tuxedo. [21:57] Who knows? [21:58] We saw him. [21:58] I think he was in a tux tonight, right? [22:01] Well, maybe he's changing up and getting ready for addressing the country. [22:05] This is a story that, even on a Saturday night, you know, I talk about a 24-7 news cycle a lot here at the network. [22:13] Well, this is what we're talking about. [22:15] It can be a Saturday, a Sunday, you know, whatever. [22:18] It doesn't matter when it comes to the news. [22:19] The news just keeps on keeping on. [22:21] So here we are. [22:23] We're going to go over some of President Trump's true social posts. [22:26] We're going to go over the United States Secret Service latest information [22:30] in just a minute. [22:32] But again, if you're just joining us now, it is at the bottom of the hour soon here, [22:36] 1030 Eastern Time. [22:38] As soon as we see that press conference start, we'll take you there to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. [22:43] We have our production crew called in on the weekend. [22:47] Here we are. [22:48] And we will be going there as soon as we see that feed. [22:50] Again, this is not a feed that you'll see anywhere else right this second, [22:54] in the sense of the press conference has not started yet. [22:57] As soon as it does, again, we'll take you there. [22:59] All right, so this is what President Trump said on True Social earlier. [23:04] Let's go with the first post that he had regarding this incident. [23:08] He said, quote, [23:08] For quite an evening in D.C., Secret Service and law enforcement did a fantastic job. [23:14] They acted quickly and bravely. [23:16] The shooter has been apprehended. [23:18] And I have recommended that we, quote, unquote, let the show go on, [23:23] but will entirely be guided by law enforcement. [23:26] They will make a decision shortly. [23:29] Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned [23:32] and will just plain have to do it again, President Donald J. Trump. [23:36] That was the full post. [23:38] Then minutes later, President Trump said, quote, [23:41] The law enforcement has requested that we leave the premises consistent with protocol, [23:48] which we will do immediately. [23:50] I will be giving a press conference in 30 minutes from the White House press briefing room. [23:54] Of course, that's why we're live here at Right Side. [23:56] This was a post some time ago, so we're still on standby for this developing news story. [24:03] So the First Lady plus the Vice President and all Cabinet members are in perfect condition. [24:10] We will be speaking to you in a half an hour. [24:12] This was the President some time ago. [24:14] I have spoken with all of the representatives in charge of the event, [24:18] and we will be rescheduling within 30 days President Donald J. Trump. [24:23] The United States Secret Service, as you see the post right there, said, quote, [24:28] Shooting incident at White House, Correspondence Dinner. [24:31] The U.S. Secret Service, in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department, [24:36] is investigating a shooting incident near the main magnetometer screening area [24:41] at the White House Correspondence Dinner. [24:44] The President and the First Lady are safe along with all protectees. [24:51] One individual is in custody. [24:53] The condition of those involved is not yet known, [24:56] and law enforcement is actively assessing the situation. [24:59] There was a point where we thought this event tonight, which, yes, I mean, think about it. [25:06] It's the President back at the WHCA, the White House Correspondence Association dinner, [25:12] where Barack Obama, so famously back in 2011, [25:18] tried to roast President Trump, the then Donald J. Trump, in the sense of not President yet. [25:22] It was 2011. [25:23] And you remember Trump's stoic face there as Obama tried to jab and jab some more. [25:31] Well, President Trump has gotten the last laugh after winning two elections, [25:34] actually three, if you know what I mean. [25:36] But the point of all of this is we're going to hear from President Trump here in just a little bit. [25:40] And he did say it's going to be a press conference. [25:42] So if that's the case, then that means, of course, there's going to be a Q&A back and forth. [25:48] So this just went from a Saturday night where people are dining and drinking and eating food and all the things [25:55] and getting ready to hear from not a comedian tonight, by the way. [26:00] A mentalist was going to be the emcee, and I'm sure he was going to do some of his tricks or whatever he does. [26:08] And so now the whole thing has been canceled. [26:10] But what we are hearing is that this event will still happen within 30 days, that according to President Trump. [26:18] So that's the latest we know here at Right Side. [26:21] Again, President Trump, two truth social posts, and then the United States Secret Service. [26:27] Everything else you're seeing out there, of course, videos of people fleeing the lobby or fleeing that area of the hotel, and rightly so. [26:37] I mean, if you think about it, the videos I've posted, if you want to check them out, [26:41] at MatthewUSMedia on X, at MatthewUSMedia on X, and at Matthew Alvarez on True Social, [26:50] the posts that I did were at 8.38 Eastern Time. [26:55] At 8.35 Eastern Time is when I initially saw the coverage, because, again, I was watching on C-SPAN, [27:03] you know, just like anybody else might have been doing that, you know. [27:05] So it's, and especially think about it, you know, on a weekend, you know, do I always want to be plugged into the news? [27:11] But when it's this kind of story, I mean, yeah, President Trump's going to be speaking. [27:15] It's the Washington press. [27:17] Let's see how President Trump does when he does his speech, all the things. [27:22] But when I saw on C-SPAN the anchor there saying, let's go to that shot there, let's go to that video, [27:29] and I saw that the head table was cleared away. [27:33] So President Trump, the vice president, the first lady, Carolyn Levitt was sitting right to the right of the first lady. [27:40] And you can see just by what their mouths were saying there, what happened? [27:45] Is something happening? [27:45] They got really serious, and then they got cleared out of there. [27:49] Then you see the SWAT teams, you see the Secret Service, you see law enforcement, [27:53] and you think to yourself, what is going on? [27:55] Then the C-SPAN reporter said that apparently there were shots fired. [28:04] I posted at like 7.38 Central Time, we're in the Central Time Zone here in Alabama, 8.38 Eastern Time, [28:10] all about the possible shots fired. [28:13] And that's something, even in the moment, as a journalist, you don't say shots fired, [28:17] somebody has been confirmed shot, none of those things. [28:20] You say possibly unconfirmed reports, even in the heat of the moment. [28:24] That's what you got to do, right? [28:25] So anyway, we're going to go to the White House. [28:28] And I can tell you this, it's a packed house. [28:31] Let's go to Washington, D.C. [28:32] Well, thank you very much. [28:38] And that was very unexpected, but incredibly acted upon by Secret Service and law enforcement. [28:47] And this was an event dedicated to freedom of speech that was supposed to bring together [28:56] members of both parties with members of the press. [28:58] And in a certain way, it did, because the fact that they just unified, I saw a room that was just totally unified. [29:08] It was, in one way, very beautiful, a very beautiful thing to see. [29:11] A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, [29:17] and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service, and they acted very quickly, [29:23] and have just released for purposes of transparency, clarity. [29:29] I've ordered it to be put out. [29:32] You probably have it by now, put out on truth and put out on many of the platforms. [29:37] A tape showing the violence of this thug that attacked our Constitution, [29:43] and also showing how quickly Secret Service and law enforcement acted on our country's behalf. [29:49] Really did a great job. [29:52] One officer was shot, but saved by the fact that he was wearing, obviously, a very good bulletproof vest. [30:00] He was shot from very close distance with a very powerful gun, and the vest did the job. [30:09] I just spoke to the officer, and he's doing great. [30:11] He's in great shape. [30:13] He has very high spirits, and we told him we love him and respect him, and he's a very proud guy. [30:24] He's very proud of what he does, Secret Service agent. [30:27] And we looked at all of the conditions that took place tonight, and I will say, you know, [30:35] it's not a particularly secure building, and I didn't want to say this, [30:43] but this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we're planning at the White House. [30:50] It's actually a larger room, and it's much more secure. [30:54] It's got drone-proof. It's bulletproof glass. [30:57] We need the ballroom. That's why Secret Service. [30:59] That's why the military are demanding it. [31:00] They've wanted the ballroom for 150 years for lots of different reasons, [31:07] but today is a little bit different because today we need levels of security [31:12] that probably nobody's ever seen before. [31:14] But everyone owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to the courage of law enforcement. [31:22] The law enforcement and working with the D.C. police, and we just spoke with the mayor, [31:27] and when we're finished, the police chief is going to take over and discuss it also from their viewpoint. [31:37] But they also performed exactly as they were supposed to, and you see the attacker in different positions, [31:44] but you also see the attacker totally subdued and under control. [31:49] So, as you know, this is not the first time in the past couple of years that our republic has been attacked [31:55] by a would-be assassin who sought to kill in Butler, Pennsylvania less than two years ago. [32:02] You all know that story. [32:03] And in Palm Beach, Florida, a few months after that, we came close. [32:08] We really had, again, we had some great work done by law enforcement. [32:13] But in light of this evening's events, I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts [32:20] in resolving our difference peacefully. [32:22] We have to resolve our differences. [32:25] I will say, you had Republicans, Democrats, independents, conservatives, liberals, and progressives. [32:34] Those words are interchangeable, perhaps, but maybe they're not. [32:37] But yet everybody in that room, big crowd, record-setting crowd. [32:40] There was a record-setting group of people, and there was a tremendous amount of love and coming together. [32:49] I watched, I watched, and I was very, very impressed by that. [32:54] But we were, First Lady and I were taken very well care of, very quickly, very quickly rushed off the stage. [33:03] Vice President J.D. Vance, who's here, was likewise beautifully done. [33:10] He was just saying how quickly everybody acted, law enforcement, Secret Service in particular in this case, [33:16] but law enforcement. Marco had the same thing. [33:18] Pete was there. Pete didn't want any help. He didn't want anybody to help him. [33:22] He doesn't want anybody to help him. But he did get some, didn't you? [33:26] And I think you also said that it was very impressive. [33:29] So, with that, I'd like to ask Todd Blanche to come up, say a few words, and tell you it's already underway. [33:37] The man has been captured. They're going to his apartment. I guess he lives in California. [33:47] And he's a sick person, a very sick person. And we don't want things like this to happen. [33:52] I think it's very important that I say, though, and I told the representatives of the evening, [33:56] they did such a beautiful job. It was such a beautiful evening. [34:00] And, again, they're talking about free speech in our Constitution. [34:02] That's what it's all about, not just White House correspondents. [34:07] It's really, it was really based on free speech in our Constitution. [34:10] But I said very importantly that we'll do it again within the next 30 days. [34:16] It will make it bigger and better and even nicer. [34:20] So I just want to thank everybody that was involved. [34:22] I also want to thank the press, the media. You've been very responsible in your coverage. [34:28] I will say I've been seeing what's been out. You've been very responsible. [34:31] So, Todd Blanche, I'd like to say a few words. I know we're going to have cash. [34:35] And then you're going to go on. We can ask, I guess we can take a couple of questions. [34:40] I want to thank the First Lady for, that was a rather traumatic experience for her. [34:47] There was a lot of action taking place up there very quickly. [34:50] But, again, the response time was really incredible. [34:55] And we're going to reschedule. We're going to do it again. [34:58] We're not going to let anybody take over our society. [35:01] We're not going to cancel things out because we can't do that. [35:04] We wanted to say tonight, I will tell you, I fought like hell this day. [35:09] But they, it was protocol. They said, please, sir, because they didn't know a lot of, there was a lot of action going on. [35:18] And they didn't know, could there be, probably a lone shooter, but we'll find out. [35:21] We'll find out very quickly. They have it very well under control. [35:24] So I want to thank everybody very much. And Todd Blanche, please. [35:28] Thank you very much, Mr. President. Tonight you saw the very worst and the very best of this country. [35:40] You saw the very worst by the actions of that coward that the president just talked about. [35:44] But you also saw the very best because you saw law enforcement do exactly what they're supposed to do. [35:50] And you'll see the videos come out, I expect, very shortly. [35:53] And you'll see law enforcement do exactly what we want them to do. [35:57] And so I echo what Mr. President, what President Trump just said, that we are extraordinarily grateful and appreciative of the men and women of law enforcement that, that did their jobs tonight, including one who was, who was injured. [36:09] This investigation is ongoing. I expect you will see charges filed shortly. [36:15] The charges should be self-evident given the conduct. [36:18] But as you'll hear, there will be multiple charges around the shooting, around the possession of firearms and anything else that we can get, get on this guy. [36:28] The investigation is obviously ongoing and just started. [36:32] There is federal law enforcement already working on search warrants and doing their job. [36:38] And I don't want to get ahead of them and don't want to get ahead of the work that they're doing even as we speak. [36:43] Director Patel and I were just on the crime scene a short while ago. [36:47] And everybody in this room should rest assured that the Metropolitan Police Department, the FBI, Secret Service, everybody's on the scene doing their job. [36:56] I know that the police chief is going to give an update from the scene as soon as we're finished here. [37:01] And I obviously will lead the, lead the details of what, of what they have learned to him. [37:07] But in the meantime, I just want to thank, thank everybody in this room for the courage. [37:13] And I want to thank President Trump for his, for his words. [37:16] And, and I promise you, justice will be served. [37:20] Thank you. [37:21] Director Patel. [37:22] Thank you, General. [37:40] And that's why you saw brave Secret Service agents respond immediately, swiftly, subdue and take down the suspect and safeguard the lives of thousands of individuals at that hotel. [37:49] Thanks to our interagency partnership with the Department of Homeland Security and the Metropolitan Police Department, the FBI was rapidly deployed onto the scene, took over the evidence response unit, is examining all the ballistics that were found on scene to include the long gun and the shell casings. [38:04] We are conducting witness interviews as we speak. [38:07] You will hear from our team on the scene there with the mayor and the head of the FBI field division there. [38:12] But please know what the Attorney General has just said reigns no truer. [38:15] You saw the very best of America tonight. [38:18] The very best unite us at a time of uncertainty because we have leadership here with the President and the Vice President that backs law enforcement. [38:25] And the men and women that I shook their hands on the scene today could not have been prouder to show up on scene. [38:30] And as the Attorney General said, make no mistake, we are conducting witness interviews. [38:34] If you have any information, any information whatsoever related to this event, 1-800-CALL-FBI. [38:39] 1-800-CALL-FBI. [38:41] No piece of information is too small. [38:43] No piece of information is inadequate. [38:45] We will evaluate it all. [38:59] And we are going to ensure that he was either a lone wolf actor or anyone else that was responsible. [39:04] We will analyze all evidence immediately to make sure that we safeguard this country. [39:08] Mr. President, Mr. Vice President, thank you for your leadership. [39:11] Attorney General and Homeland Secretary Mullen, thank you for your partnership in law enforcement. [39:16] Okay, we'll do a couple and then we go to the chief. [39:20] Madam Chairman, I just want to say you did a fantastic job. [39:24] What a beautiful evening. [39:26] And we're going to reschedule. [39:27] And after that, it's very tough for her to ask a killer question, right? [39:35] But you have done a fantastic job. [39:36] Please. [39:37] The Press, Mr. President, I appreciate it. [39:39] As you mentioned, it all happened so quickly. [39:41] And I wonder, especially because, unfortunately, you have experience with these sorts of threats. [39:50] In that moment, when you realized there was a threat and service agents were telling us to get down, [39:57] can you describe what was going through your mind, how you were feeling in that moment? [40:03] That's a very good question, actually. [40:05] It was, it's always shocking when something like this happens. [40:08] Happened to me a little bit. [40:11] And that never changes. [40:12] The fact, we were sitting right next to each other, the first lady on my right. [40:18] And I heard a noise and sort of thought it was a tray. [40:23] I thought it was a tray going down. [40:26] I've heard that many times. [40:27] And it was pretty loud noise. [40:29] And it was from quite far away. [40:30] He hadn't breached the area at all. [40:33] They really got him. [40:35] But, so it was quite far away. [40:36] But it was a gun. [40:38] And some people really understood that pretty quickly. [40:43] Other people didn't. [40:44] I was watching to see what was happening. [40:47] Probably should have gone down even faster. [40:50] Melania was very cognizant, I think, of what happened. [40:53] I think she knew immediately what happened. [40:56] She was saying, that's a bad noise. [40:59] And we were whisked away along with other people. [41:06] But we were really whisked away. [41:07] And, again, the performance of the Secret Service and the police, [41:11] all of the law enforcement, I thought it was really good. [41:13] So it was very quick. [41:15] There wasn't a lot of time to be thinking because it was a matter of seconds before we were out the door and gone into an area. [41:22] And we very much, and you wanted to, too, we very much wanted to continue it. [41:26] Because I don't like to let these sick people, these thugs, these horrible, horrible people, change the fabric of our life, change the course of what we do. [41:35] So we held out. [41:37] You were there. [41:38] We held out right until the end. [41:39] But they didn't want to take a chance. [41:41] And I understand. [41:42] It was protocol. [41:43] But we're going to be doing one, hopefully, within the next 30 days or sooner. [41:47] And I am ready, willing, and able. [41:49] And I was all set to really rip it. [41:53] And I said to my people, this would be the most inappropriate speech ever made if I said, so I'll have to save it. [42:00] I don't know if I could ever be as rough as I was going to be tonight. [42:03] I think I'm going to be probably very nice. [42:05] I'll be very boring the next time. [42:13] There's a report in the New York Post that this assailant assembled his weapon somewhere on site at the hotel. [42:22] What do you think about that? [42:23] And I ask respectfully, why do you think this keeps happening to you? [42:31] Well, you know, I've studied assassinations. [42:36] And I must tell you, the most impactful people, the people that do the most, you take a look at the people, Abraham Lincoln. [42:45] I mean, you go through the people that have gone through this, where they got them. [42:50] But the people that do the most, the people that make the biggest impact, they're the ones that they go after. [42:57] They don't go after the ones that don't do much because they like it that way. [43:02] And when you look at the people that have either, whether it was an attempt or a successful attempt, [43:09] they're very impactful people. [43:11] Just take a look at the names here, the big names. [43:14] And I hate to say I'm honored by that, but I've done a lot. [43:19] We've done a lot. [43:20] We have taken this country, and we were a laughingstock for years. [43:25] And now we're the hottest country anywhere in the world. [43:27] We've changed this country. [43:29] And there are a lot of people that are not happy about that. [43:32] So I think that's the answer, Peter. [43:34] And after Butler, your team for a while rethought outdoor events. [44:01] Boy, those guys, they had their guns drawn literally by the time he was there. [44:05] They were shooting. [44:06] That's right. [44:06] They were, I thought they were very impressive. [44:09] I thought they were very impressive. [44:11] And if I didn't, I'd let you know, you know. [44:13] I'm not going to be, I would not stand for that. [48:03] And he aimed, he fired, and if he didn't do that, beyond me, you would have had a lot more people killed. [48:10] We lost one great person and two people very badly hurt. [48:13] They were okay now. [48:14] But, no, that was, so in a sense, you know, they, it was pretty amazing, the job they did. [48:20] But, but, but they did have that one weak spot, as you know. [48:24] They should have had that covered. [48:26] Tonight, they had everything covered very quickly. [48:28] And he was fast. [48:29] He was running full blast. [48:31] And they got him before they got any further. [48:33] I was very far away. [48:34] You know, he was, he hadn't anywhere close to breach the doors of the ballroom. [48:39] The ballroom was sealed, and everybody in there. [48:42] That's why, once those doors opened, they didn't want to do tonight. [48:46] If the doors weren't opened, we could have probably done it tonight. [48:48] But I think we're much better off rescheduling. [48:51] Yeah, please. [48:52] Mr. President, for you, and perhaps law enforcement as well, [48:56] what is the level of confidence that this was a lone actor? [48:59] And has the suspect made any statements to police while in custody? [49:03] Yeah, I think it, I've just, my, look, it's my profession. [49:06] We have great professionals up here and outside that have been working with us. [49:10] My impression is he was a lone wolf, a whack job. [49:15] These are crazy people. [49:17] These are crazy people. [49:18] And they have to be dealt with. [49:20] We had that in the second attempt, as you know. [49:23] And he's, he's spending life in prison because if you let him out, [49:27] they'll probably, you know, if he serves 10 years or 15 years, [49:31] you let him out, he'll probably try it again with somebody else. [49:33] They're sick people. [49:35] We have a lot of sick people. [49:37] But you're going to know, I think very shortly, [49:40] you're going to know, Todd, a lot about him. [51:29] Is that just the cost of doing business to do politics in America anymore? [51:33] Yeah, well, what else, what else would you say about our country? [51:35] Yeah, we're not the only country. [51:36] You look at this great violence with all countries. [51:39] I was talking to somebody from another country today, [51:43] and they have numerous assassinations of political figures all over the world. [51:49] You look at South America and South America, [51:51] it's like some of the numbers are just horrific. [51:54] It's dangerous. [51:55] It's dangerous stuff, whether it's here or someplace else. [51:58] No country is immune. [52:00] No country. [52:01] Good question. [52:01] Is it possible to turn that temperature down at this point? [52:04] Well, probably if I decided to just not do much, you know, [52:09] if I let everybody rip us off and take advantage of us. [52:13] Look, we're leading the world in trade now. [52:15] We're leading the world in the military. [52:16] We're the greatest military in the world. [52:18] I rebuilt it in my first term, and now we use it because we have no choice. [52:22] We can't let, as an example, Iran, we can't let them get a nuclear weapon. [52:26] That everything will be peanuts compared to that if they ever were given a nuclear weapon. [52:31] And they'd use it, too. [52:33] Marco and I were talking about it today. [52:35] They would use it without even hesitation. [52:37] We can't do that. [52:38] It was a shame. [52:39] I said, oh, boy, look at the numbers. [52:41] We just broke 50,000 in the Dow. [52:43] We just broke 7,000 in the S&P. [52:45] They said we couldn't do it in seven years, in five years, four years. [52:49] They were saying maybe in five or six years. [52:52] And we did it in one year. [52:54] And I called everybody together. [52:55] I called all of these people and others, and I said, we have to take a little journey. [53:01] I seek to do this. [53:10] And I said, we're going to have to make a journey to Iran. [53:13] They're going to have a nuclear weapon if we don't do it. [53:16] We had the B-2 bombers take them out. [53:18] I terminated in the first term the Obama agreement, the Iran nuclear agreement, which was a disaster. [53:24] That was a road to a nuclear weapon. [53:26] They would have used it. [53:27] They would have used it 100%. [53:28] So, you know, when you do things like that, you become a target. [53:32] If I wasn't doing that, I guess I'd be a lot less of a target. [58:27] The President and the First Lady are safe, of course, as you just saw there, [58:31] along with all of the protectees. [58:34] One individual in custody, as you just heard.
