[7:13] ago you referred to AJ as the best receiver the city's ever seen how disappointing is it for you
[7:21] that it ended in the way that it did considering how highly you thought of him yeah I mean I would
[7:28] say it was uh there was a lot of good years here right um and done a lot of good things um with
[7:36] when when with AJ here two times in the Super Bowl I think he was all pro multiple times
[7:43] Pro Bowl multiple times and uh so I would say it was a it was a great it was a good run um but
[7:50] really excited about that room that we have um you know Devontae Smith has had a really good
[7:58] offseason has had what five good years of of being an eagle as well uh very very productive and excited
[8:05] that you know he's going to get extra opportunities that um he worked so hard to that people convert
[8:13] that um you know I'm really excited about Makai um and and where he is uh this offseason and
[8:22] just has ability to catch the football is his toughness um I think that's a great addition
[8:28] to that room Tay uh Wicks I just think he has a very unique skill set um of being able to get in
[8:36] and out of breaks and be really efficient at the line of scrimmage um has a you know for a guy that
[8:43] I've coached I had some Keenan Allen to him and to his his game um you know uh Keese and uh Elijah
[8:53] um been excited to really been excited to coach those guys for a long time I just and uh they have a
[9:01] they have unique skill sets you know uh Keese has got extreme quickness and Elijah um or pardon me
[9:09] Keese has great great speed and excellent hands um Elijah just so quick at the top of his route and
[9:17] then you know Darius Cooper and um and Johnny Wilson just have that ability to kind of be the
[9:24] dirty work guys that we've so valued in in our offense um and I'll always value that in an
[9:31] offense of a receiver that can do some of the dirty work and then do some of the other things from that
[9:36] so you know again a lot of good things that have happened um but and then really excited about that
[9:42] room where do you where do you uh weigh in and what was your input on the decision to trade him
[9:47] uh Howie and I discussed everything as as you guys know we talked through everything and uh
[9:54] you know again um you know so many things that he's that he did what was that was good for
[10:02] good for our football team and always will wish him the best of luck and uh but like I said um
[10:09] really excited about the guys in that room and where we are but you know this is a team game um
[10:15] to your question and and just in every decision you know that I make and decisions that Howie's makes
[10:22] we we we talk to each other about it you know what a good teammate that I have with Howie Roseman um
[10:28] to to be able to go to battle with uh and you know and that that's like that with with everything
[10:36] you know the offensive staff working together to come up with the best plan the defensive staff
[10:41] working together come up with the best plan um I think that's what good organizations do and uh
[10:47] obviously the Philadelphia Eagles are have been a good organization for a very long time and I'm very
[10:52] grateful and thankful to be a part of that AJ said in an interview with Maria Taylor that he was
[10:57] comfortable being the one who says uncomfortable conversations um with the team and other people
[11:03] do you think that's important to have on your roster and do you feel like that's I think that
[11:08] I think that we have those conversations very consistently I think that happens when you have a
[11:14] team that's close they're able to do that I mean you listen to uh the guys talk when like I kind of
[11:22] talked uh about um when you get further along and you get successful teams the Spurs the Knicks that
[11:32] you know common denominator what they talk about is how close they are um that's no secret like when
[11:38] when teams make it as far as we've made it as teams make it as far you know and to the championships of
[11:44] of things they talk about how close they are and they always you always seem to find that they talk
[11:50] about you know because they're close they can hold each other accountable um and again we have hard
[11:58] conversations in here every day practice is evaluated in front of everybody uh not only as a
[12:04] offensive group or a defensive group but as a team um and so we set that stage as coaches to say
[12:10] hey this is so important that we're able to have these hard conversations um and and then you have
[12:18] really good leaders on our football team that are able to do that you know uh Jalen um Saquon uh Jordan
[12:25] Lane Landon uh Zach uh Q Coop and Jalen uh Jordan um on the defensive side of Jalen Jordan both sides
[12:36] but um yeah those we have a good group of core guys that are able to have those conversations
[12:44] with each other um and that's been common since I've since I've been here you know starting with
[12:51] the leadership when I first got here we've with Jason Kelsey and and Fletcher Cox and Lane Johnson
[12:58] and Brandon Graham um and I think we've always we've always had those leaders that have been able to
[13:05] to do that um I think again that's a sign of a good team that's that that you can have guys that
[13:12] are willing to tell the truth to each other and we have to set that stage of telling the truth to
[13:18] each other by as coaches with how we go about our daily business every single day a lot has been
[13:23] made about Jalen and AJ's relationship you've always stressed how important it is for teammates
[13:27] to be close I was wondering as the head coach of the team if their relationship from your perspective
[13:32] was ever a problem in managing the team and impacted on the field no I think uh you know again
[13:38] yes relationships are so so important that doesn't mean everybody I think sometimes that can get
[13:45] misconstrued that everyone has to be best friends and and that's just not that's just not the case
[13:50] there's there's a lot of guys on a football team um there's a lot of different uh you know personalities
[13:56] and what what has to be understood is that everybody has a common goal um and what also has to be
[14:04] understood is that everybody has a common goal that they need each other to accomplish right and so
[14:12] it's like yeah we all want to win yeah we all want to be all pro yeah we all want to be our second third
[14:17] contract um but you also in that need others to help you accomplish those things um and there's no other
[14:28] sport in my opinion out there that that is more um that's more obvious than in football and so
[14:38] again like yeah you you strive to get to know each other like when we talk about coming together as a
[14:44] football team how do you do that well there's no shortcut in the time that you spend with each other
[14:49] getting to know each other um getting to know each other what makes each other tick what why they do it
[14:55] you know what they like to do whatever it may be you get that through shared hardships um so so only part
[15:03] of that is like hey a little time but then part of it is you you get that togetherness through shared
[15:08] hardships going through tough times together and then the other part of that is you get you get
[15:12] that togetherness from trust that's built from consistently doing what you're supposed to do on
[15:19] a daily basis uh man i just trust that guy that he's going to do the right things at all times
[15:24] and so relationships togetherness sometimes look in the sense at times of man those that guy's in
[15:37] you know landon was in jordan's wedding or jordan's and sometimes it looks like like that
[15:42] um and then sometimes it's just hey the the shared mission of the of the team and i think uh you know
[15:50] it can look a lot of different ways but it is so important that we all understand that um we have a
[15:56] shared mission and that we need each other to go about uh to get to where we want to go we need each
[16:02] other with not and not in this sport um can we do it alone um you know if you want to do it alone
[16:09] you got to pick another sport but you know i say to them sometimes i feel bad because because i love
[16:14] the sport of tennis but i'm like hey you know this ain't tennis all right and none of you are built to
[16:19] play tennis a lot of you guys aren't built jake elliott was built to play tennis but a lot of you
[16:24] guys weren't built to play tennis so you can't switch so you need each other to to get to where you want
[16:28] to go you got to go all right thanks y'all
