Iran War Press Conference Turns into TOTAL DISASTER for Trump

[0:00] late tuesday night president trump and the iranian regime agreed to a two-week ceasefire [0:04] uh at least each side agreed to a version of a ceasefire agreement it's not sure if they agreed [0:08] to the same double-sided yes double-team ceasefire we'll dig into all the details in a second but [0:14] first john um let's just see how the financial media was processing trump's threat uh to take [0:20] out the entire civilization of iran let's watch here's a clip from cnbc deadline that president [0:25] trump has sat 8 p.m has threatened to destroy a civilization how how does an investor process [0:33] that is it is it a bigger upside risk or downside risk well sarah you're always going to want a [0:40] short civilizational collapse yep that is just uh that is 101. yeah i'm long war recording iran is now saying the strait of hormuz is closed until the israelis agree to stop bombing [2:07] lebanon trump however told uh liz landers at pbs news this morning that no lebanon is not part of [2:14] the ceasefire deal so that seems like a big problem and again like so the pakistanis who [2:19] facilitated this agreement they explicitly said that lebanon was part of the deal this is from [2:24] prime minister uh sharif's tweet last night quote with the greatest humility i am pleased to announce [2:28] that the islamic republic of iran and the united states of america along with their allies have [2:33] agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including lebanon and elsewhere effective immediately that [2:40] seems pretty cut and dry yeah apparently no one uh no one told the uh the israelis that literally [2:46] did you see the wall street journal sorry about this yes i've been thinking about this i feel like [2:53] we are back to exactly where we were um right after trump gave that weird prime time address last week [3:00] which is remember like in that speech he was basically like well we destroyed everything and the [3:06] strait will open up on its own and we don't need the strait right and we did everything we needed to [3:10] do and that's that yeah and that's basically where we are right now we just had like a threat of genocide [3:18] interrupting uh that in the middle right but like all that's happened it seems like is um the united [3:24] states has stopped bombing stuff and uh iran said that they would open up the street but now they've [3:30] closed it and even if they open it again iran controls the strait and is charging a toll yeah [3:36] we gave them they de facto i mean basically trump seemed to concede in his statements last night that [3:40] iran is now in control of the straighter humus um yeah we mentioned this earlier the wall street [3:44] journal reported that the israelis were furious that they were not part of the ceasefire negotiations [3:48] they weren't consulted on the final text of the deal um before it was done and they have basically [3:53] insisted that they're going to keep hitting targets in lebanon lebanon and to that point [3:57] this morning the idf tweeted quote the idf completed the largest coordinated strike across [4:02] lebanon since the start of operation roaring lion and they said they hit a hundred targets in 10 [4:08] minutes and so a lot of like you know geopolitical analysts i follow are wondering if this is israel [4:14] trying to collapse the entire deal by bombing the out of lebanon in the moment after it happened i don't [4:19] know if you've seen some of the videos too from it's horrifying in beirut yes in like densely populated [4:25] areas of beirut people saying it's like apocalyptic there right now what's happening in lebanon is uh is [4:30] staggering i mean a million people have been displaced uh from the south israel is now saying [4:35] they're going to occupy like territory that stretches like 15 miles into the country the media always [4:40] calls it a buffer zone but it's an invasion and an occupation of another country it's crazy and they're [4:44] doing the thing they did in gaza which is like everyone every target is hezbollah everyone is related to [4:49] hezbollah it's all hezbollah it's all terrorists any any death you see is all hezbollah well and [4:54] that's you know i was talking to a friend who is is lebanese and his family in beirut and so you have [4:58] a million people who are pushed out of the south they're all looking for places to stay and work [5:03] but no one in lebanon or in beirut wants to rent out an apartment to someone they don't know because [5:08] god forbid they are right you know tangentially or directly connected to hezbollah and all of a sudden [5:13] your apartment building is bombed because you let this person stay there so it's exacerbating all [5:17] these sectarian tensions i think they killed a senior party official from the party that is [5:22] opposed to lebanon uh the other day and they're like well he wasn't part of the target well that [5:26] makes sense that's a great way to do it well president trump um he doesn't seem worried about [5:30] these details this morning he truthed a big day for world peace iran wants it to happen they've had [5:35] enough likewise so is everyone else the united states of america will be helping with the traffic [5:39] build up in the strait of hummus there will be lots of positive action big money will be made [5:44] iran can start the reconstruction process we'll be loading up with supplies of all kinds and just [5:49] hanging out in order to make sure that everything goes well i feel confident that it will just like [5:56] we like we stand ready but um regardless i thought this exchange is actually [7:49] the last question and answer was pretty instructive uh let's watch go ahead yes yes uh two questions [7:56] actually for you so during this time um is the president still are you still encouraging um civilians to [8:03] rise up against the uranium or they are they satisfied with this new regime change or they [8:08] or is this two two week period to kind of see um where that leads also talked about the enriched uranium [8:14] going in there um would that require would that require special forces or other military our service [8:20] members who would that who would who would be basically going in there and trusted to going in there [8:24] to get that uh uranium out um again on the uranium we're watching it we know what they have and [8:32] they will give it up and we'll get it and we'll take it if we have to we we can do it in any any means [8:37] necessary so that's something the president is going to solve for we already have midnight hammer [8:42] with where with the place we put them in and the reason it's in the situation where it is uh the [8:48] second one was about the people listen i would love to see the iranian people take advantage of this [8:52] opportunity um they have been oppressed by the previous regime and they'll have a new opportunity [8:59] with this regime that remains to be seen that was not our objective in this effort [9:04] but they're brave people horrible things have been done to them by the previous regime tens of [9:09] thousand targeted and killed and iran's highly [9:50] enriched uranium stockpile which the point of the whole thing far and away the most important priority [9:55] of the mission so that's put a put a pin in that one uh and then a regime change trump went from [10:00] saying i want to pick iran's next leader remember that yeah phase to actually there was regime change [10:06] and the new guys are cool and we're working with them and then hegs out there is like yeah actually [10:11] it'd be great if the irani people would rise up so best of luck a dozen we got a dozen or so [10:17] senior iranian officials um sunk a hundred or so uh ships a couple thousand ballistic missiles [10:27] that's it yeah that's it that's 40 billion dollars we spent at least um uh thousands of people dead [10:34] including 14 americans 365 americans wounded and basically we looked at this terrible regime in iran [10:42] that was pursuing a nuclear weapon and said what if we gave him a new toll road in hormuz [10:47] what if we gave him some more money and then we're watching that thing what if yeah what if [10:51] this international waterway where 20 of the world's oil goes through we gave this regime that we're [10:56] saying is so dangerous we gave them control and then they could charge money and then uh and then we [11:01] blow some up and maybe degrade their uh their traditional military capabilities a little bit [11:06] temporarily and then uh and then we'll call it quits yeah so let's dig into this financial piece so [11:13] the wall street journal said two vessels have gone through the strait dozens more preparing to but now [11:18] it sounds like the strait is closed again i don't know by the time this goes out uh this recording [11:22] goes out who knows what'll happen the bottleneck though is like 400 plus ships massive ships and it [11:28] seems unlikely i've been waiting in that line well have you read the stories about the guys who are [11:31] stuck on these ships yeah i know it's awful it is horrific they're starving there's one guy had a [11:34] heart attack you couldn't get rescued because you couldn't send a helicopter out there's like [11:38] these poor sailors i mean these are just random you know men and women from far from countries [11:43] usually who are uh doing a tough job because they need the money so it seems unlikely this [11:47] trade is going to get to full capacity because iran's just not going to let it happen there so [11:52] there will be some sort of like relief for financial markets and for uh global oil supplies but it's not [11:58] going to return to the status quo anytime soon and then as you mentioned the financial times is [12:01] reporting that iran is going to demand that shipping companies pay tolls in cryptocurrency like [12:06] another three cheers for the crypto guys some reports say it'll be a dollar per barrel of oil i've [12:11] seen other estimates of like two million dollars a ship that is going to add up to a massive amount [12:17] of money that iran can use to rebuild its military i saw one expert uh one analyst did some like kind [12:23] of back of the envelope math and found that like even kind of the lower range would be three times iran's [12:28] current stated defense budget uh so this deal gives them de facto control of the strait and a huge [12:36] financial windfall potentially and trump is like oh it might be a joint venture that was his thing to [12:40] jonathan carl today at abc news which is based on nothing um and control of the strait also like [12:48] damages the global economy because it brings about or leaves unpredictability and uncertainty right like [12:55] the other these ships in order to go through the strait yes they need now iran's approval and to pay [13:01] the toll and they also need to get insurance and they're still not issuing insurance to these to these [13:06] ships because they don't know like if so say that we're recording this and it's closed it then it's [13:11] opened and then two weeks later it's closed again like what kind of certainty do you have if you're [13:16] trying to ship oil through the straightforward would you feel safe yeah or you're trying to insure those [13:20] those ships and so like the markets can can do all they want today great and like hopefully the price of [13:25] oil falls but i think on the economic front we are it's not just like oh it's going to take some time to [13:31] get back to normal i think we are nowhere near out of the woods on the economic consequences of what's [13:36] going on yeah it's completely uncertain and what we've learned is that all iran has to do is fire [13:40] one missile at a ship and they de facto close the thing down and like rightly so if imagine you're [13:45] the captain of a ship full of gasoline you're not going to mess around with getting a um you know [13:50] attacked um so trump also said in that post on tuesday night that the us and iran are far along on [13:56] a final deal to end the war and he said that this 10 point plan that iran had put forward was [14:00] quote a workable basis on which to negotiate so let's just talk through this iranian list of [14:05] demands a permanent end of hostilities guarantees that the us and israel won't attack iran again [14:11] ceasefire agreements that includes israel's war with lebanon and hezbollah with hezbollah in lebanon [14:17] all sanctions on iran should be lifted all sanctions lifted on iran's allies iran takes control of the [14:22] strait of hormuz iran can charge fees on crossings through the strait the toll money is used for iran's [14:28] reconstruction the toll fees and hormuz will be shared with oman uh not sure what that means so [14:33] so i realize this is a maximalist opening position from the iranians yeah but trump even accepting [14:39] that proposal as a starting point is a huge win for these guys yeah and well and now and he's like [14:45] walking it back this morning he's like beware of the 10-point plans and the papers that are out [14:49] there that you you shouldn't believe anything you see because all the real stuff is happening [14:53] behind closed doors and so obviously like i'm sure the iranians are probably fudging it trump's [14:59] like again once again you don't know what the truth is because there's some stuff going on you [15:04] know behind closed doors but like and then every side is trying to just like you know try to show [15:09] that they're winning but like i i think i don't see how a deal i don't see what a deal gets done [15:15] yeah trump will come in with a maximalist set of demands too it'll be like no nuclear enrichment [15:19] it'll be no ballistic missiles or some sort of like limit on their ballistic missiles it'll be no [15:23] support for proxy groups like hezbollah or hamas or whatever right it'll be similarly maximalist [15:29] maybe they can get to some agreement but i just it feels like there's almost every scenario ends [15:36] with iran in the stronger position than where they started in part because they know trump [15:41] sees this as a political disaster and wants more than anything to declare a victory and walk away [15:47] and he's not a details guy he's a press release guy and this is this gets us back to where we were [15:52] um when trump was threatening uh to eradicate the civilization which is for for us to get back to a [15:59] good place for the united states would be for them to give up the control of the strait of hormuz [16:04] so in what world would they give up the strait and give up control and stop the tolls [16:09] uh well trump then it gets back to trump being like well if you don't give it up [16:13] then we will kill you kill you all right which is the only card he has left to play because [16:18] he doesn't want to order a ground invasion of iran or a karg island or the rest of it and they [16:23] don't want to hold it and so like again we're like right back to where we were which is a place [16:28] that we got to because he decided to start this war yeah everything is worse than it was the day [16:32] before they started this conflict so yeah big picture let's just take stock again before we [16:37] conclude of where what we've accomplished number one uh number one goal prevent iran from getting a [16:41] nuclear weapon obviously obviously like look the nuclear sites are more damaged than ever before [16:47] but there's 900 pounds of highly enriched uranium sitting in iran most analysts think they will be [16:52] more motivated than ever to seek a nuclear weapon as a deterrent so yeah so it doesn't seem like [16:57] that's a big win number two destroy iran's military like certainly did a lot of damage there the us and [17:01] israel did to the air force navy air defense system ballistic missile stockpile and to the industrial [17:06] base uh that they would use to rebuild it but iran uh before the ceasefire was reportedly still [17:12] firing 15 to 30 ballistic missiles a day and 50 to 100 drones per day so even the hegsath in his [17:17] briefing today had to concede that like they can fire a shot at any time and create all this economic [17:23] disruption uh number three and iranian support for proxy groups like hezbollah um the support they [17:29] provide them is usually it's financial and weapons um as we just discussed iran might weep a financial [17:34] windfall that could go towards the proxy groups doesn't seem like a good setup no uh i remember [17:39] these guys being mad about a pallet of cash from obama well now they smaller numbers you know they're [17:43] cool tankers of cash yeah no it's crypto guys yeah tankers of crypto tankers of crypto uh for regime [17:49] change remember trump said he not only wanted a regime change he wanted to pick the next leader of [17:55] iran but we traded ali khamenei who was 86 for his son younger model who's the younger more harder line [18:01] you notice that they keep calling him disfigured yeah that's because they want they want you to [18:05] think he's dead or that he does he's not really there they want they want they want to like weekend [18:09] at bernie's them yeah and but there's all the reports today you know this is an axios i think [18:14] talking to israeli sources say that khamenei personally signed off on this ceasefire deal yeah [18:18] so seems like he's well kicking or maybe maybe he's not kicking but maybe he's pumping uh and then [18:24] finally iran as you just said has more control of the strait of hormuz and global oil shipments [18:29] than ever before so lots more lots more thorns than roses there tommy yeah i don't feel like this [18:34] was a good idea would be my takeaway fucking idiot like and you know it's wonderful that uh we we [18:42] walked back from the brink of genocide yeah and our genocidal crazy president didn't go through on his [18:48] insane fucking threats yes obviously everything else still sucks yes everything still sucks and it [18:54] it's frustrating as a democrat to sort of prosecute the case against trump and against this war because [19:00] you know i think there's been some pushback to people being like i taco'd again right because [19:04] you don't want to bait him into doing something of course not crazy but also we have to be honest [19:09] that this was an absolute fucking disaster like we're not playing like this is not bumper bowling for [19:15] trump politically we're not gonna like pretend he did a good job well it's even i mean people the the [19:19] the line on trump is that like he creates a problem and then he solves the problem yeah and [19:23] then he gets the credit for something but in this case he didn't even solve the problem no didn't even [19:27] solve the problem he created the problem he threatened a disaster like a fucking catastrophe [19:34] and then he walked it back to a huge problem yes and meanwhile this scenario let's say the war [19:40] ended today i think that's the best outcome for the world for sure it is the worst outcome imaginable [19:45] for the iranian people because trump has now left them with a decimated country an even more hardline [19:52] regime that is going to crack down on any dissent harder than ever before and they all know goddamn [19:58] well that the united states and israel won't do a goddamn thing about it because they don't actually [20:02] give a about the iranian people and there might be an agreement not to attack them again yeah and do [20:07] we think that like israel's safer that the saudis are safer that the u like uae like all of the gulf [20:13] countries do we think that like some kind of ceasefire or even some deal is going to protect [20:18] them now that iran is has just the whole remember the other their other big goal was to stop iran from [20:22] projecting power in the region do we think iran is not more powerful than it was before no and and [20:28] look i do think you know they did some real damage to their industrial capacity and their sort of for [20:34] sure their ability to build drones and missiles and things i think they will build that like the shaheed [20:38] drones are not complicated things they're fucking lawnmower engines with a warhead on the front that [20:43] fly or wherever they want and they will also i am positive that iran will now get support from the [20:49] chinese and the russians to help them build back whatever they need to build back go back better [20:56] great work everybody good job thanks uh maybe don't
