INC Edsa-White Plains rally enters 2nd day — INQToday

[0:41] Good afternoon. The rally mounted by the Iglesia Ni Cristo at the EDSA White Plains Avenue area in Quezon City enters its second day on Wednesday, July 1. [0:50] The National Capital Region Police Office says that at least 3,000 participants are in the area, while 2,000 police officers have been deployed as of 10 a.m. [0:59] Some participants camped out in their vehicles, in tents, and on mats through Tuesday night, June 30. [1:06] The protest action started early Tuesday in support of Senator Rodante Morcoleta, who faces an impending plunder case in connection with a P75 million donation made before his 2025 senatorial bid. [1:19] The first day of the rally crippled traffic along EDSA White Plains during the morning rush hour, with only one northbound lane on EDSA passable, while all southbound lanes experienced slow-moving traffic. [1:31] Despite this, the Quezon City government granted a permit for the rally's second day. [1:36] Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety Chief Elmo San Diego explained that the INC originally requested a permit to hold a rally until Friday, July 3. [1:46] However, the local government only gave them until July 1 for now. [1:50] Yung request nila is bali 4 days, simula kahapon plus 3 days. [2:28] The rally organizers secured a permit to hold the rally along White Plains Avenue from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. [2:34] Abirin says authorities will allow the rally to continue as long as participants remain orderly and the city government issues the necessary permit. [2:43] Moreover, the NCRPO says that the four individuals arrested during the rally in Quezon City have been released from police custody. [2:53] The Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality opens a hearing on Wednesday, July 1 to look into the fatal school shooting in Tacloban City. [3:02] The hearing, led by Santoriza Contiveros, aims to examine possible links between violent and extremist messaging on online gaming platforms and violence involving minors as well as existing safeguards for young users. [3:17] Contiveros says the tragedy calls for immediate action, adding that authorities should examine the incident from multiple angles to address gaps in existing systems. [5:02] Also present are the aunt of the one of the suspects whose registered firearm was allegedly used in the shooting, relatives of the victims, and parents of several students who were killed or injured.
