Hillary Clinton’s ‘Deplorables’ Speech About Trump Voters from 2016 Hits Different Today

[0:00] You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump supporters into what I [0:08] call the basket of deplorables, right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, [0:21] Islamophobic, you name it. We're ready. We're prepared. Do not give in to fear. [0:28] We are fearless. This is not the time to be afraid. But she got upended because of a couple of things. First of all, I think she was [1:06] tone deaf. She was absolutely not listening. Bernie Sanders wasn't either. He could have easily beaten [1:12] Hillary Clinton. But really? Yeah, you could have. But you got, you got, you, you, you got caught up [1:18] and talking to me, to me, this is how I, you, you, you're talking to black people only about [1:23] your crime, like prison stuff and poverty. And there's other issues. And you were unable to pivot [1:32] from that. And, and I think, you know, that Martin Luther King thing was so long ago, [1:38] you move purposely to a state that has like 1% black people in it. And then you're talking to us [1:44] in a way that lets me know you don't really know what we need. And then when you're told, [1:48] these are the things that we would like to talk about, you didn't want to talk about those things. [1:52] That disqualified him from me. Hillary Clinton, tone deaf as well, riding on this, I'm supposed to be [2:00] here thing and missed, I think several key moments, but she also got hemmed up because this, this is [2:08] the kind of world where you can get hemmed up on language, right? So when she did that basket of [2:13] deplorables and then matter of fact, that, that clip is going around again, uh, play it again, [2:20] Smith to remind people, you know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump supporters [2:29] into what I call the basket of deplorables, right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, [2:44] Islamophobic, you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that and he has lifted them up. [2:56] So all she said was the truth, half, and she was generous because she said half, [3:02] I'm at the point now it's all of them. And if you're one of them, call us up because it's you. She, Oh, she was very generous, but my goodness, [3:21] did the media glom onto the basket of deplorables and ran with that damn basket of deplorables as if [3:27] the people weren't a basket of deplorables. And she was again, kind. And I always say, [3:34] why are you upset? If you, you could be in the half that's not in the basket of deplorables. [3:40] Why are you identifying with the basket of deplorables? Why are you mad? So she is talking [3:45] about you, right? Cause you wouldn't answer to something that's not something that you're doing. [3:50] So you must be the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic person that she's talking about. [3:54] And if you're not, if it don't apply, let it fly, right? That's how we roll. If it's not who you are, [3:59] you don't answer to something that's not you, but they did. And then they told us that, [4:04] and instead of saying, why are you responding? They were backpedaling and they didn't really [4:10] know. Cause we were in a different time and we didn't realize the power of media and propaganda [4:14] and lying, but that thing upended Hillary that and bill, I think he kneecapped her as well. [4:19] And I think that, um, James, what's his name? Comey, uh, also participated greatly in her demise. [4:28] And maybe it was supposed to happen. Maybe we, we weren't supposed to have a Hillary Clinton [4:32] president with two or three amazing Supreme court justices in a country that actually cared about [4:40] rights because maybe we would still be a country that wouldn't care about Palestinian children. [4:48] Maybe we would still be a nation that would turn a blind eye to genocide. Maybe we would still be that [4:54] right now. Now it's an issue.
