[0:02] Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is drawing heavy criticism after dismissing [0:07] voter concerns over biological boys and girls' sports. He says the debate is just a distraction [0:12] from larger issues. El-Sayed said we live in a world where parents have no hope of shielding [0:17] their kids from dangerous or objectionable ideas. Listen to this. What happens with transgender [0:24] kids on sports teams and so on, right? Like these are places where rights are in conflict, right? [0:30] I don't know that that's actually true. I think we manufacture these social issues. You can get [0:35] access to everything and anything in the whole world, all the world's information in your pocket. [0:40] The notion somehow that you are going to prevent your child from being exposed to something [0:44] that you may find disagreeable and that that is going to be because of school is so profoundly [0:51] outdated. Wow. Well, the interview quickly drew heavy backlash online, including from El-Sayed's [0:57] Republican opponent Mike Rogers. He posted Abdul El-Sayed says it's okay for men to be in [1:02] girls' locker rooms. Why? Well, because they are going to find out about it on the internet [1:07] anyway, completely unacceptable. I mean, that is the logical conclusion you arrive at based on [1:13] that answer. He was asked about men and women's sports, but the logical conclusion is they will be [1:18] in locker room spaces, but it's okay. Girls see that online anyway. That might be the worst answer [1:22] I've ever heard on this issue, Marie. Oh, wow. That's a bold statement. Abdul El-Sayed did not say [1:27] he was okay with men in girls' locker rooms. I don't think it was a good answer. And you know [1:32] I'm actually very liberal on this issue. And I think that a lot of the outrage is manufactured [1:37] because it affects such a small number of people. But I do think there are conflicting values here. [1:41] There are parents who feel very deeply about their children not playing sports with transgender [1:45] athletes. I also think that we should not scapegoat transgender kids and make people feel like [1:50] like they're somehow a threat to the wider population. And, you know, California's done [1:55] interesting things here. They let transgender athletes compete, but they don't take a podium spot [1:59] from someone else. So if we're talking about equality, if they get a silver medal, there's [2:03] another silver medalist too. So states are dealing with this in different ways. And I don't know [2:08] that that was a great answer. And Mike Rogers certainly ran away with that. [2:11] You sound like Newsom and Kamala Harris who are trying to have it both ways with that answer. [2:16] I mean, I sort of agree with Newsom on this. But I want to circle back to the top of your answer [2:19] where you said he did not say that biological men can be in girls' locker rooms. [2:23] He didn't say that. But he was asked about transgender sports. [2:27] If they are in the sport, they are also in the locker room. [2:29] I mean, not necessarily. If you run track, there's not a locker room. [2:32] So the rule you're postulating is allow biological men and women sports, [2:35] but because they're biological men, keep them out of the locker room? [2:37] What do you mean if you run track, there's in a locker room? [2:39] That's logically not congruent. [2:40] They have to get ready somewhere. You think they show up on the track [2:44] when they go to the bathroom, they've got to go to the locker room? [2:46] In this issue, I think there are a couple of competing principles. [2:50] I see both of those principles here. And I'm trying to find a way. [2:53] You know this is an issue that your team lost on against President Trump in 2024. [2:58] Completely lost on this issue. Why are you still litigating it? [3:01] Harris, in this election, it's not even in the top 10 of what voters care about. [3:04] So if we're talking about what happens tomorrow. [3:06] So why is he talking about it? [3:07] Because he got asked about it in an interview. [3:09] Well, the confusion in the Democratic Party continues if they're not allowed in locker rooms, [3:13] but they're allowed on the sports teams. [3:15] Just ask me something people want to know about. [3:17] You know, I guess it would have been in quite a moment who said, [3:21] you got an iPhone, right? You got a Samsung? What have you put out of Blackberry? [3:26] I would love that. I love Blackberry. [3:27] That would have been hilarious. He's running the most politically rhetorical campaign I have ever seen. [3:34] It's like, I know I am, but what are you? [3:36] All right. Remember when Kristen Walker was interviewing him on NBC and he said, [3:39] Kristen, are your parents still with us? Like, what is that? [3:43] It's such like a, like, take it down a different track every single time. [3:46] And he came out yesterday with that press conference and said, [3:49] by the way, you know, I'll answer your questions unless it's about the two people who are not here. [3:54] Yeah. [3:54] I don't know. If I was a reporter standing, I mean, like, who worth their salt would have said, [4:00] okay, I'm cool with that. What he was saying was, don't ask me about Haley Stevens and don't ask me [4:04] about Mike Rogers. If he wins, okay, if he wins, he is going to give your party hell in Washington, D.C. [4:15] Mallory McMorrow should have been the candidate. You were right. [4:17] Harris, 2028 contenders in the Democratic Party need to come up with an answer to this. [4:21] It's one of the most obvious questions I've yet to hear a good answer. [4:23] They've had two years to practice since Trump beat him on this cultural issue. [4:27] I mean, more than 70% of the country in both parties, they vote both parties have said, [4:33] no men identifying as women and women in girls' sports, your biological sex, what you were born with, [4:41] XXXY. I mean, the NCAA. And by the way, for all of these young people who want to matriculate to [4:47] the NCAA, it's based on that. So if you've been competing against boys and you get there, [4:53] it's completely different. So that's not even fair. But Marie, what you said was they'll give two [4:58] silver medals. So if you happen to be as good as a boy, you can have the same medal. You still have [5:04] to beat them. And they have a biological advantage. It's science. And I know you guys like science on [5:11] the left. And I mean, Lydia, if the, I guess the theory is if you see it on your iPhone, you should [5:15] have no problem seeing it in person. That takes us down a really dark hole. It does. It totally does. [5:20] It actually underscores, I think, how disconnected, I think, as a candidate it is from what parents really [5:25] care about in this country. Not only do most parents care about boys not being in girl sports, [5:29] but most parents, I think, when you ask them, they're really concerned about technology in the [5:33] classroom and what their young children are seeing if a fellow student has a phone and they're [5:37] scrolling. And honest to God, what they're exposed to, terrible movies, horrible propaganda, [5:42] ideology, and so forth. So I'm not sure how that answer helped him at all. I think he just took one [5:47] bad issue for him and made it a lot worse. The internet will parent your child. [5:51] Right. Yes, that's right. To the mothers on this couch, I'm sure you're not happy about that. [5:55] Yes. Abdul Al-Sayed, the Rhodes Scholar, he needs to study up on that issue. All right.
