economic impact of the war in [1:05] iran after global oil prices surged above 125 a barrel americans are now paying an average of four [1:12] dollars and 40 cents for a gallon of gas up 35 cents in just the last week that's the highest since the [1:19] start of the war the cost of diesel jumping by two dollars a gallon some drivers say they can no longer [1:25] afford to fill up and are choosing between gas and groceries and while president trump claims gas will [1:32] quote drop like a rock once the war is over experts warn it could get a lot worse that drivers could [1:38] near the five dollar mark by memorial day if the straight up her moves remains closed we've seen [1:43] nothing but a huge jump especially in areas of the great lakes where refining problems have now pushed [1:48] prices very close to the five dollar a gallon tally other states including florida seeing prices jump [1:54] today to 440 if you're out on the west coast california surpassing the six dollar a gallon mark and will [2:00] go higher along with areas of the rockies all of this due to the big jump in the price of oil but those [2:05] big increases are starting to be felt at the gas pump across many states we're more than two months [2:12] into the war in iran in the oval office president trump claiming iran wants to make a deal nobody knows [2:18] what the talks are except myself and a couple of other people they want to make a deal badly we have a [2:25] problem because nobody knows for sure who the leaders are it's a little bit of a problem but [2:30] with no talks in sight congress the only branch of government that can declare war is now taking the [2:36] defense secretary to task rachel has the details well maggie today marks 60 days since this war with iran [2:43] began and under the war powers act the president must seek congressional authorization for any war that [2:49] goes beyond 60 days well over on capitol hill defense secretary pete hegseth was asked if the [2:55] president plans to seek that congressional authorization we are in a ceasefire right now [2:59] which our understanding means uh the 60 day clock pauses or stops in a ceasefire so you're not in [3:06] that's it's our understanding just so you know okay well i i do not believe the statue would support them [3:11] for the seventh time republicans blocked an effort that would have required president trump [3:15] to get approval from congress for this war in iran but there was one key difference republican senator susan [3:21] collins splitting from her party on this resolution she's locked in a bitter reelection battle but she [3:27] says the president's authority as commander-in-chief is not without limits an investigation is underway [3:32] after five people were injured during a stabbing at a washington state high school the suspect is a [3:37] student he's in custody being held on five counts of first degree assault the victims were rushed to [3:43] hospitals some in critical condition all now considered stable it was more than an hour before the [3:48] school lockdown was lifted and students were able to reunite with their parents the man accused of [3:53] trying to assassinate president trump will remain behind bars as he awaits trial authorities releasing [3:59] new surveillance video from the night of the white house correspondence dinner in a fox news interview [4:04] the head of the secret service says cole allen shot a secret service officer at point-blank range [4:09] as he raced towards the ballroom at the washington hilton authorities saying there is no evidence it was [4:15] friendly fire and they're awaiting ballistics test results on the vest that saved the officer's life [4:20] now to a report in the new york times that says convicted sex offender jeffrey epstein [4:25] left behind a suicide note that was found by his cellmate before epstein hanged himself in a new [4:30] york jail erin katursky has the details if epstein did leave a suicide note it would be a critical piece [4:37] of evidence investigators never saw his former cellmate nicholas tartaglione told the new york times the note was [4:43] written on a yellow legal pad tucked inside a book and is now part of his criminal case hidden from [4:49] public view tartaglione a convicted quadruple murderer said he discovered the note in july 2019 [4:55] after epstein's first suicide attempt when the bureau of prison said epstein was found with a homemade [5:00] noose fashioned around his neck sources told abc news federal prosecutors in new york who charged epstein [5:07] with sex trafficking minors did not know about the note but it appears to be referenced in a two-page [5:12] timeline contained in the epstein files the timeline says sometime between july 23rd and july 27th [5:19] nt found the note and claims his lawyer authenticated it in january 2020 it does not say how [5:26] that lawyer declined to comment to abc news because the record is sealed camp mystic where 25 campers and [5:32] two counselors died last summer's catastrophic flash flooding will not open for the summer the family [5:38] that runs camp mystic has withdrawn its application to operate this season following days of emotional [5:44] hearings on the tragedy and vocal opposition from victims families and lawmakers the remains of one of [5:50] the girls have still not been recovered the director of the camp also died in the flooding in a rare [5:55] bipartisan move the senate has approved a revolution to ban its own members and staff from using prediction [6:01] markets the measure passed unanimously the practice has come under growing scrutiny on capitol hill and [6:07] this week a u.s special forces soldier was charged with using classified information to bet on
