[0:00] All right. Thanks Ainsley. So affordability taking center stage in last night's Michigan [0:05] Senate debate with Mike Rogers and Abdul Al-Sayed clashing over tariffs. Watch. [0:12] There are tariffs that I think are too high and not helpful for us. We ought to get rid of those. [0:16] So this is about getting the best deal possible. I'd like to see it end. I think we need to end [0:22] it. And as a matter of fact, have made those phone calls this week to make sure that we can [0:28] get those things taken care of. You're hearing somebody who has cheerlead again, [0:33] a Canadian tariff policy that we are paying $5,600 a year for. If we were serious about [0:40] using tariffs, we would do it in the way that the UAW has advocated. The UAW has advocated for [0:45] smart tariffs where we actually hook it to an industrial policy that makes sense. [0:49] So recent Fox News polling shows Al-Sayed holds a slim one point lead among likely voters. However, [0:56] 52% say they're very or extremely concerned. His positions are too liberal. So what do people [1:03] in Michigan think? Let's now turn to our voter panel. Tim Golding is a Michigan Republican voter. [1:10] Ian Murphy is also a Republican voter. And Isaiah Graves is a registered Democrat. [1:16] Gentlemen, thanks so much for joining the program. [1:18] Thanks for having me. Thank you so much. [1:21] Good to be with you. [1:22] So, Isaiah, I want to start with you because you're a Democrat. And you said that you were [1:26] undecided before this debate. And I'm just curious, did this debate change anything for you? [1:37] No, it did not. However, it moved me more into the category of being against [1:41] the Democratic candidate. I was privy to some new information that I had not known that was his [1:48] position on the campaign trail. So overall, I'm not tending to be supportive of what was said. [1:55] Isaiah, just to stick with you for a little bit, what was that new information that really [2:00] turned you off of the Democratic candidate, Al-Sayed? [2:02] Particularly on foreign policy, on the idea that we wouldn't support our allies, particularly with [2:11] funding. I believe there was a question on whether the candidate would support our allies with [2:17] defensive weapons. And particularly, I'm thinking about countries like the UK and Canada. It would [2:23] be inconceivable for a United States senator to not support our allies. And foreign policy is a core [2:30] function of being a United States senator as someone who's internal on Capitol Hill. I know [2:35] that very well. Okay. Tim, I want to go to you. You're a Republican. This is a dead heat. Mike [2:41] Rogers ran the last time and lost by a couple thousand votes. Do you feel like this time is going to be [2:49] different and why? Yeah, this time is going to be different. And he lost by like 19,000 votes two years [2:56] ago. This time, he's running against someone who's a smart guy with wrongheaded ideas. [3:01] Mike has policy ideas and plans that are going to help Michigan families save money, put more [3:06] money in their pockets, give them more freedoms and more opportunities when it comes to health [3:10] care and energy and education for their children and bringing manufacturing back to Michigan. And [3:15] as a former home builder and remodeler, I can tell you that Mike's plans to shrink the size and [3:20] the scope of government's interaction and simply building homes is going to be a savings for Michigan [3:26] families. On average, 25% of every dollar that gets spent on a new home goes right into the government's [3:32] pocket. That's not paying for two by fours and drywalls, nails, paint, whatever. That's just to cover [3:38] government red tape. And Mike is going to work hard to shrink that red tape across all industries to [3:42] save Michigan families money. Copy that. Ian, I know health care is big for you. So I want to play [3:48] this exchange between the candidates on the debate stage and get your reaction. Let's play it. [3:52] The fact that he's going to take away your private health insurance, turn it over to the government, [3:58] and it would cost each family about $20,000 a year in new taxes. This is the problem we've got to face. [4:06] I want to guarantee every single person in this country cradle to grave coverage without premiums, [4:11] co-pays, deductibles. That doesn't have a network. That does not pay a corporate CEO tens of millions [4:16] of dollars a year. That allows you to have the security of knowing you're not going to be one of [4:21] the millions of people in this country who fall into medical debt. Okay, Ian, what did you make of that [4:26] exchange? Yeah, I think it's fascinating that we're still having a conversation about a single-payer [4:33] system. I run a restaurant in rural northern Michigan, and we have to deal with the Liquor [4:38] Commission. And these people are a perfect example of why a single-payer system is not going to work for [4:45] something as simple as ordering spirits, let alone we're going to hand over such an important thing [4:50] like health care to the government to handle. I can't think of one thing the government does well, [4:56] but let alone these folks want to advocate for handing over such an important part of our lives [5:03] and the economy to the government as a single-payer system. That one thing in and of itself for me [5:10] is enough to not vote for that candidate. Okay. Tim, Ian, Isaiah, it was great to get [5:18] y'all perspective this morning. Appreciate it. Thank you. So stick around. Mike Rogers will join us live [5:25] still ahead plus.
