2027 Election: Tinubu Will Have His Way With Ease, Says Ayo Fayose — Politics Today

[0:03] so there are a lot of grappling that the nation is contending with and critical questions around [0:10] security governance economic hardship and the future of our democracy and political actors [0:17] are beginning to look at what solutions we could get ahead of 2027 elections especially [0:23] with some of the incidents that we've seen the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in [0:28] our state has once again brought national security under intense scrutiny while debates continue [0:35] over the direction of the country the performance of political parties and the evolving electoral [0:41] landscape joining me tonight is one of the leaders in southwest nigeria former governor [0:47] of ikiti state ayodele payoshi thanks so much your excellency for joining us tonight good evening [0:54] and good evening nigerians as a leader in the southwest region and i'm hearing [1:03] some non-state actors and some interest group who are already trying to prefer solutions and trying [1:09] to um suggest ways to tackle or to ward off uh some of these insurgents and some of the bandits who are [1:19] attacking the schools uh what is your take on some of these on orthodox or on uh on sanctioned [1:28] models because you can't blame those who say that we want to help can you let me appreciate [1:40] this opportunity to be a part of this discourse and to let you know that we are concerned about [1:50] the citizens of this country that were kidnapped either in your state either in quara or any part of [2:02] the country it's not a wish for an enemy i sympathize with the families and we pray that they will [2:10] return safely to the their loved ones it's unfortunate it is sad it is regrettable now let me go to your [2:21] question um if i get you right if you look back the problem in our hands as a nation it's an unending [2:38] problem this problem this problem started like a joke i was governor up until 2006 and two that was in [2:48] the reign of president obasanjo this this issue started quietly and today it has taken over the fabric [2:58] of our society it has become a big business and it is now a way of life may god never allow us to be [3:08] victim or victims of this uh unfortunate issue recall very well that this was rumored because i'm not [3:21] going to alleged or mention anybody's name to have started in a in a part of the north [3:32] noticed precisely and the efforts were made by succeeding governments to cop the spread but don't [3:42] forget up till now it has escalated and the then president who everybody had judged to be a former [3:51] military head of states everybody said he was a military man he was able to handle it it was actually [4:00] worse in the days of late president barry without judging anybody and this situation regrettably regrettably [4:12] again regrettably is an ongoing concern without solution inside and i want to say to you there is [4:22] no nigerian president no nigeria security architecture can solve this problem why if you look very well [4:34] they have put religion into it they have put ethnicity into it they have brought in so many sentiments [4:42] to worsen matter and i want you to know and note this the society where we live in are now part [4:50] of this racket and evil kidnapping act a man who was picked in magodo in lagos i wish i can remember [5:03] his name was picked in magodo evans lives in affluence in town but he was the financier the boys in the bush [5:19] are the ones doing the evil today majority of the people doing this evil are not equally people to [5:27] watch out for a lot of the big men in our society are already the the handlers recently they said they [5:36] went to pay ransom and when they got there the bag with which ransom was paid was found in the house [5:44] of uh uh seriki whatever in augustate people use kidnapping today they say i am i arranged to [5:58] kidnap themselves look at the incident in akiti recently how do we now win the battle that the [6:06] society the president wants to protect the society we are blaming the president for is part of the evil [6:15] and you cannot win a battle when the society themselves are part of the evil when i was governor [6:23] of akiti i made a law because a lot of people were cronies of general warrior president warrior at the [6:31] time they couldn't identify with me i was the first to make a law in this country that there is not going [6:38] to be cartoons working in my state i created a ranch the government house went to house of assembly made a [6:46] law with that law the moment we find you with cartoons we take over the cattle i took them over and i [6:56] arrested because a few people were killed in the farm settlements i arrested more than 67 people within [7:04] three months were able to jail 17 people out of which 15 fullanese were there i'm not indicting fullanese [7:15] because fullanese people are great people they are good people i'm not indicting anybody and this is not [7:20] out of fair but when they saw the train that i was not joking the emmy of kano sent emistries the former [7:31] governor of kano came to akiti they sent emistries from sokoto to come and talk to me why am i jailing [7:39] fulanese i told them i was jailing criminals i wasn't jailing fulanese the law was jailing criminals [7:49] that is the angle of that i just mentioned if i may jump in quickly you are being one of the [8:00] most vocal critics of past government and administrations three years into president [8:08] would he say and the kind of situation and incident that we've seen would he say [8:13] nigeria is moving in the right direction or are nigerians worse off today than they were in 2023 [8:21] and what specific indicators would support your position so thank you president bola amir tinumbu [8:31] to me he's not a perfect person but he has given his best things were worse at the exit of president [8:39] boy and let me chip in most people may not want to see president himself we don't want to see this [8:47] president who literally handed over government to himself by hand by taking over for puari and as [8:56] a decent man a man who will not want to say that he has abandoned the northerner i'm sure in his heart [9:06] took everything to heart and managed the damage done by the court to the country by the last administration [9:15] the president has shown focus and i want to say to you when jonathan was to leave office the same way [9:23] he was blackmailed with insecurity the same way they went to america they made obama to carry the [9:31] placard placard of chipboard girls let me quickly branch toward your state very quickly by this i want [9:39] to say to you before you get to the president in the hierarchy of leadership and governors there is local [9:45] government the states states have security votes they have people that are supposed to be working [9:54] they have amortekon they have all sort of names when you ask governors now they will say we are not [10:02] chief security officers that is incorrect that was why i was giving an example of myself and i want to [10:09] say to you you know your state i have strong belief i may be wrong that this sometimes can be orchestrated [10:19] the governor for your state had his nomination the nomination of his candidate in the face of this [10:25] abduction he did not take any action no steps were taken it was after all those nominations that he went [10:33] went to the family to visit them that he brought somebody out started crying the husband of one of [10:39] the women it is sad i can sometimes believe that this was orchestrated in a way i'm not saying totally by [10:48] the government or for your state to blackmail president in a way at the same time but but [10:54] but that will be that will be no no governor that's going to be an area a very heavy allegation because [11:00] you're talking about lives of people we are talking about innocent children we're talking about [11:04] fathers mothers of innocent people and alleging that a government is responsible to kidnap his own [11:12] citizen excuse me that's why don't you think no i disagree you can't say that without any evidence [11:18] no no no you can't say that can i have any evidence to say you can allege against a government [11:25] that is intentionally kidnapping his press his own citizen to to blackmail a federal government would [11:32] you no evidence to that do you have can you wait one second shivo i started this conversation by [11:37] telling you this may be a way and i said it may not politics largely has been responsible for kidnapping [11:50] by what we had and what we are imagined when this thing started from the north this happen they deploy nothing [13:42] they allow the incident to happen federal government is in abuja local government is here state governor [13:49] is here what i'm telling you is that it is an option the second option is this the federal government [13:58] today has a sizable number of the military men that are seated in the northeast percentage [14:08] that are in other space is about 30 percent how can that cover the nation the federal government cannot [14:16] put police in the community uh quickly because i have quite a few questions to ask you uh in the [14:23] face of what is going on and we're already approaching the lecture we're in the election [14:27] uh uh in the country today and you look at it and those who say if you say okay maybe someone framed [14:36] up the your situation what about the situation in quara what about situation in part of the northeast [14:42] and northwest region but it brings to the question just a moment sir it brings to the fraud the the [14:48] the question about the choices that is going to be before nigerians you have a shayi makinde [14:57] apm presidential candidate atiku abubaka of the adc and of course kachiku uh jumebi kachiku is also there [15:06] on one hand uh you have a candle like peter obi and congress so in the ndc and these are going to be [15:14] a very huge contest southwest is going to be a very hugely contested uh region of the country and i [15:22] just will say balatinubu's and apc's vote are going to be in trouble balatinubu is your very good friend [15:28] do you see him having a pathway to victory in this election well so it's unfortunate that i couldn't [15:34] address no security issues but let me go to your question so nobody is contesting against balamin [15:40] tinubu you may not like to hear this there is a difference between reality and noise in the social [15:46] media if the opposition article will be all of them were to be one party against tinubu i would say [15:58] tinubu will get a run for his money you know who is like every nigerian leader that i believe in [16:03] but let me tell you the moment that they have ntc or is ntc or ndc and they have a ndc initially they [16:15] were saying tinubu was a one-party state now there are so many parties they have destroyed their journey [16:22] by themselves you remember that when you are being contested uh article contested tinubu contested [16:31] because it's a major three three horse race tinubu had his way and i'm telling you again tinubu will [16:40] have his way with ease there's an election coming coming up in the southwest you are asking whether [16:46] you will not have issues in us in the southwest let me analyze sideways for you i don't mind if you say [16:52] why she's lying very stations i was able to analyze this well to them in the southwest here there will be a fear contest in [18:34] lagos because of ubi not because of makende i'm being honest with you forget whatever you imagine about [18:41] makende there will be a fear contest in lagos but in the other five states actually defeat people like [18:50] i'm telling you so governor governor father what would president bulletin rule and the apc [18:59] be telling nigerians they are the one who are who have something to defend to the nigerian people [19:05] is it about the economy or security or what exactly would they be telling nigerians for them to uh why [19:12] they should be re-elected why do you think that the voting pattern would not change based on the [19:18] performance and the promises made by the tunubu government and the apc so i would love to know [19:24] whether you are asking your questions about southwest or by nigeria but in the southwest i'm asking [19:30] generally about the election and i'm saying the options presented to nigerians what would the bulletin [19:36] nubu candidate and the apc be telling nigerians that they needed to be re-elected for let me tell you [19:42] again when you contest what i will say to the people you will equally be able to show me who my [19:49] opponents are today of all men contesting i have yet to see the man that would defeat ashwaju in [19:59] whatever you say every government has an answer to offer the people so far to the best of my knowledge [20:07] ashwaju has done well there is no nigeria is in a critical situation we can't deny that why he left [20:15] nigeria in shambles when you are picking rubbles what are the indicators to to this effect to to [20:22] your analysis what are the indicators when you say tunubu has done well what are the indicators [20:28] what would he say in what area one of the one aspect of life one one of the indicators i will tell [20:36] you is when you look at his decision to take off the first subsidy he couldn't have done better because [20:44] it was a racket it was a racket his decision to take away the gap between the the black market [20:53] and the ordinary markets and the official market let me tell you is the same racket when oh when [21:02] when you look at it today the dollar is stabilized yes it's gone off but it's been brought as back as [21:09] like 1.3 1 300. it was far far beyond that and every day it gets better and i want to say to you [21:16] not everybody will love tinumbu and he himself should remember that everybody will not love him [21:23] the fact that those who believe in his um in his policies in his actions and what is delivery [21:31] we continue to defend him and i'm telling you for me i'm not saying it's perfect i'm not saying all is [21:37] well but tell me the person that wants to defeat tinumbu and how he would do it they couldn't even [21:44] stand together as opposition it's been difficult for them to stay together so how would they win if [21:50] you go to if you go to the south south how would they win how would article with the cross rivers [21:56] how will he win in rivers we must ask practical questions in the north today in adamawa i i respect [22:05] uh former vice president so well but i'm being practical in adamawa today there is filtry that [22:13] has left that part there is filtry who will be going out as the incumbent governor and who was in pdp [22:23] before where is the support base of article and i want to tell you obi today even we need to we need [22:32] to close the pro we need to close the program because i was asking you about what you will um turn [22:39] or the platanobu candidacy or the apc who say to nigerians for them to think that he deserve a [22:46] second time or re-election and you've mentioned a few policies but there are those who also argue [22:51] that these policies that you have mentioned have impoverished nigerians and why should they believe [22:57] that the game that he has promised hasn't yet come to them because of the numbers of poverty rates [23:03] uh that that is available but i want to ask you but uh good lord jonathan is in the is in the in the [23:10] picture now and as a member of the pdp are you going to openly campaign popular or good luck jonathan [23:18] jonathan is not in the race jonathan is a man of honor he's not going to bring himself to the mode with [23:26] those pulling his name to the mode please don't don't bring jonathan is a wise man he knows what power [23:32] represents he has done his beats he has served well those people are just us you know them they're [23:39] just us they are playing to the gallery how do you endorse somebody who is not there yeah [23:47] we are totally out of time i'll allow i'll
