[0:00] hey coach thanks for taking the time for us today we're going to start with elliot short parks and
[0:05] then go to john mcmullen hey nick uh there was a report that jalen got pretty limited sleep the
[0:11] night before the game in london i was wondering if you could take us behind the decision between
[0:16] the limited sleep and being diagnosed with the blood clot the day before um why you felt it was
[0:22] safe he could play in that game you know again um with all that i think the that reporter put that
[0:29] out uh came out with another report i know you guys saw that um you know the the health of our
[0:36] players are is always at the forefront of our mind and um you know leave that up to the medical experts
[0:44] but you know it's i'm all we always always care deeply about our players and um you know that's
[0:52] that's when you are completely focused on together and connection you're always thinking about the
[0:59] well-being of your guys and and that's where we were in in that situation we'll go to john and
[1:06] then reuben frank hey nick just to sort of wrap that up um and i know you don't want to go backward but
[1:13] you know jalen and and the lack of rest even though he's able to get some sleep at the stadium
[1:19] it is a very mentally draining position um is is did that affect the game planning in that game when it
[1:27] came to scaling things back i think we've we've talked about that you know you go through the game
[1:33] plan the way you go through it every single week um you know i know we got you know we everything in
[1:41] that game plan was thought through the entire the entire week and then you know you're also thinking
[1:47] about the things uh that you know going into the game as well um so you know i don't think that that had
[1:55] any effect on how we game planned or anything like that we'll go to rube and then jeff mclean
[2:03] hey nick um understanding that your number one priority is is care for the players i was just
[2:09] wondering if there's anything you feel like you guys could have done differently or should have done
[2:13] differently during the whole ordeal you know guys i'm not a medical expert i lean on our guys in all
[2:20] those situations all right i'm a football coach i lean on our medical experts in every situation
[2:26] i have full trust and full faith in them um it's not just me that has major care for our players
[2:33] it's them as well um and so we are all there uh and i'm glad to be part of an organization that cares
[2:41] about the guys the way our guys do we'll go to jeff and then brooks nick why was jalen hurts allowed
[2:48] to fly home despite the team knowing that he had a blood clot again again i'm not a medical expert
[2:55] a same type same deal there we get medical information from our guys and we always put
[3:01] the player's health at first and foremost in every situation um and you know that's where we were there
[3:08] did you uh were you briefed by the medical team uh before you did this press conference on why he
[3:14] was permitted to fly despite the blood clot yeah guys yeah guys i talked to them can you give us the
[3:20] information hi guys i talked to the guys hey jeff as a spokesman of the team we're just hoping you give us
[3:26] some information for the public thank you guys i've addressed this i've talked to you guys about
[3:33] this again the medical export experts um are there and i think i've answered this question multiple
[3:40] times we put out a statement for you guys to hear um put out multiple statements for you guys to hear
[3:46] um and so and i and i told you guys that last week that i was going to leave it at that
[3:52] um of where you know where we were on that because we put out a detailed statement for you guys to to
[3:56] hear and to understand we'll go to brooks and then dave nick i understand you're uh you're not the expert
[4:04] on the medical side i'm just curious who was all a part of that conversation people that you're listening
[4:10] to to trust to is there any clarity you can give on that yeah guys i understand that you want uh this
[4:16] information on this i fully trust the people that are involved in in helping us all make these decisions
[4:24] and you know and we have great people here we've had the the same you know i think i put it this way
[4:32] the same doctors and trainers that the same doctors and trainers that helped 21 of our 22 starters be
[4:41] available in the in the super bowl are the same guys today that deeply care about our guys to help
[4:47] them um you know or and and that's you know again don't have much more to say about that that's why we
[4:54] put the statement out and and also uh full trust in those guys and always always always the players
[5:01] health is at the forefront of our mind and i don't know i just yeah that again goes down to our
[5:10] connection and our and our team um kind of feels like you're questioning that and that's and that
[5:18] i know you guys have a job to do but you know i've got the relationship with the players that i have
[5:24] because um because of the time that we spend together and because of the care that we have for
[5:32] each other so it's always at the forefront of our mind and you know um again i get all the questions i
[5:40] know you guys have questions about this um but we we care deeply about our guys we'll go to dave
[5:48] and then martin nick given how much the defense has had to play in recent weeks is there any concern
[5:55] that the offense's struggles to stay on the field could cause some sort of a rift within the team
[6:01] you know again this is why it's so important there there are ups and downs in every season obviously we
[6:07] are in a rut right now i don't think there's a any question of that we are in it we're in a rut
[6:13] and this is why you work in the off season to come together and um because that every team is going
[6:22] to go through you know ups and downs here and it's important to have that relationship and build those
[6:28] relationships so when you go through down times it doesn't tear you apart and so you're banking all
[6:34] those reps of togetherness and the things that you're working on there to uh to pull you through
[6:42] these tough times and in tough times you have to double down on the things that you can control
[6:48] right uh the things you can control is you know all the things that we talk about on a daily basis
[6:54] um that you've heard me say ad nauseam and and um you know in this great game of football nobody's on
[7:03] an island right no coach is on an island no player is on an island not one side of the ball is on an
[7:08] island um you know and it is about locking arms in these scenarios and that's my job as a head coach
[7:14] forget to get us to lock arms in these scenarios and fight through it together um because you know
[7:22] without without the your teammates that it's it's tough and so that's why again why you have all the
[7:28] bank reps of of togetherness and the connection pieces and the dinners and the talks and the
[7:33] locker room and whatever it may be um to pull you through these tough times we'll go to martin and
[7:40] then don bell hey nick um with tanner being the quarterback presumably now for the rest of the
[7:48] season what kind of things or how does the offense have to change or evolve to better suit his skill set
[7:55] as opposed to you know what you guys have been doing for jailing yeah you know every every time
[8:02] you go into a game plan you're looking to see how you can attack a defense you're looking to see the
[8:07] things that you do well and try to repeat those things you're looking to see what your players do well
[8:12] and try to repeat those things um and so there's a little percentage of that each and every week
[8:19] so of course with change of different positions comes slightly different things but there's still the
[8:26] the the and i think i answered this for you guys last week but it's still like you still have your
[8:31] core things that you want to be able to do and the things you do well you know you know that you want
[8:37] to be able to do and you're trying to repeat those things but of course that you're always looking at
[8:42] your players i think it always starts there of what your players do well and try to repeat that and do
[8:47] those things um because they got to go out there and function at a high level against the best in the world
[8:55] we'll go to don and then to mcmanus we'll go to tim all right thanks nick um how is how is jalen
[9:08] doing and how did he take the news that he would be out for the year yeah i'll let you guys i again i
[9:14] i always talk to our guys and i never put our conversations out there i think that's the i think
[9:20] you guys can understand that like that's private conversations with myself and him um you know i can
[9:28] just say to you and you know i haven't i haven't been without jalen for an extended period of time
[9:33] i have the utmost confidence in uh tanner um but you know i i miss him right i miss that you know i
[9:39] miss him uh and i know that will that will be the case i mean because jalen and i are to have been
[9:44] together uh head coach and quarterback for six years so that's natural that's natural or five and a half
[9:51] years or however many right and so that's natural right there but um i don't want to speak for him
[9:56] um in any sense of the matter but um i just you know deeply care about him and hope that he he uh
[10:04] continues to improve um you know with what he's going through we have time for two more so we'll go
[10:10] to johnny mcgonigal and finish with zach berman hey nick um with sean mannion um at offensive coordinator
[10:18] what's your confidence level in him as he tries to you know lead this thing with with tanner a
[10:24] quarterback and you know from what you've seen from him through six games where is your confidence
[10:28] level in sean yeah i have a high confidence level in everybody in this building uh sean that's why i
[10:36] hired him um the position coaches the players um right now we are in it we're in a rough spot as we
[10:44] know um and so you know it is about controlling the things that you can control in this moment
[10:51] and figuring out you know what the next steps are you know i think we got to find out you know what
[10:57] the things are that we have to get better at and what we have to do well or what we do well and you
[11:04] know that's the that's what these next two days are for um and we get an extra day here on this end
[11:09] um but my confidence level in our guys is high right and you know and i know you guys only get
[11:17] to see a portion of you know of this with the game and that's the thing that counts the most obviously
[11:23] um but you know there's other reasons for hope and and why i feel that way um you know with how these
[11:30] guys show me who they are on a daily basis and like i said before no man is on an island in the in
[11:37] the game of football right um even when we talk about corners and it's like you know whatever
[11:44] island right i think you know q has an island named out revis right they still need the their teammates
[11:52] to to go out and rush the passer or you know what i mean so it's and it's it's like that with
[11:58] everybody right um you know coaches aren't on an island players aren't on an island uh one side of
[12:04] the ball special teams not on an island offense isn't on an island we do this thing together
[12:08] that's why it's the ultimate team game and we have to fight the urge to let you know i because i get
[12:17] it everybody wants an answer of exactly what's going on and how do you fix that and how to do that
[12:22] like it's not just one thing and and we have to be able to look ourselves in the mirror it's so
[12:28] important for a football team to not fall into the trap right that it's just one thing we all have a
[12:35] hand in it we all have a part in it and and it's just like the other portion of it when you're when
[12:41] you play well and everyone's telling you how good you are it's the same thing in this you know when
[12:46] you play well it's a trap to say hey you're playing really good blah blah blah blah no you got to
[12:51] refocus on the next game and there's a trap when you're not playing so good and not coaching so good
[12:56] that in that trap the danger of that trap is hey it's this guy's fault it's that guy's fault
[13:02] that's that's not football um and and everybody in this building has to fight that urge to
[13:10] to that is going to be fed to us um we all have a portion in it we all have a hand in the wins
[13:17] we all have a hand in the losses and right now with four losses in a row we all have a hand in
[13:22] that and we all have to get better and it's never just one thing we'll finish with zach here as a follow
[13:29] to that though nick if i can ask directly is sean still calling plays going forward yes and and so
[13:36] you said everything's on the table yesterday what is is different going forward yeah again not going
[13:41] to get into too much of that um you know obviously we are we are looking to at everything right and
[13:50] again i think you know those are conversations that i've had with the staff this this whole morning
[13:56] and um you know everything's on the table oh but we we've done this yeah well maybe this isn't
[14:05] working quite as good all right so this is on the table in it and without getting too much into scheme
[14:13] wise i'm i'm saying to you like obviously it hasn't looked the way we wanted it to look and we're not
[14:20] scoring enough points so everything is on the table all right and it's again we'll do everything
[14:28] i'll do everything we can do our coaches will be do everything we can do to help us win football games
[14:34] and so if i said hey this is all on the table but this isn't um that's everything's on the table but
[14:42] as far as you know who's coaching the positions and who's calling the plays that will remain the same
[14:48] um and you know we're looking for answers and we're looking for solutions thank you thanks coach
[14:55] we appreciate your time today thank you
