collector i started in the bone cruncher days as like a mock collector i had ljns and hasbros and stuff growing up all throughout my uh my childhood but i started putting a as i was probably around 15 i started doing like the mock thing and uh with the bone crunchers and then it just kind of developed over time i didn't really realize you know when i was living at home at my mother's house still i didn't realize how much stuff was coming in because you only have so much room right right right and then originally when i bought this house my intention was to do this in my basement yeah but when my uh contractor friend came he looked around he's like he's like there's no way we could do this in the basement you have things displayed that i've never [00:02:28] Speaker 1: seen display like i've never seen i've never seen an elijah burke maximum aggression that was a three dollar [00:02:35] Derrick Short: find at toys r us uh probably about two years whoa whoa whoa whoa look at that's that's have other letters also is that is that for sale uh i mean everybody has a price right i don't have that that is the one wrestling figure that i want that i do not have go back and check out live too true for all and we're all crazy like you made this up here i go from there up until 1996 wow so because i figure rule okay i might copy that rule bone crunchers because you look at when bone when hogan won the belt yep until what made the last series of ljns inaccurate which would be when warlord went from powers of pain to singles attire right forget that he's wearing the wrong pants yeah so and that was may of 1990 but because you guys made crush demolition one of my uh i've pushed it to summer slam 1990 because summer slam 1990 was the first pay-per-view where we actually had never never thought in my wildest dreams 30 years later uh you know not 30 years uh 12 years later or whatever it is that i'd be expanding that display now you got cards here as well yeah cards what's the card collection like [00:07:37] Speaker 1: i see a couple uh matt cordona brian myers yeah of course i had to get the i had to get the rookies [00:07:42] Derrick Short: those are super dude coding does that that's i pulled that out of a pack actually wow yeah that's one of my all-time great polls so what's your rule for collecting cards here cards i used to use here cards yeah i used to buy a lot more when they were cheaper quite honestly yeah 300 a box isn't really what i'm looking for but um i used to have i mean i bought cards all throughout my life growing up and stuff so a lot of these are from when i bought them originally or you know sets that i put together over time uh the wrestling all-stars the hogan andre i got the flare graded because i thought it was going to do a little better than that i bought that set i bought that set when my son was born yep my wife got a nice gift my daughter got a nice gift they said what am i gonna do that's right [00:08:26] Speaker 3: so i bought myself i kind of retroactively get myself two nice things from like i bought myself the [00:08:32] Derrick Short: set of series a and it was right before they started exploding i got really maybe one of my biggest regrets in collecting what it is pretty much the unslabbed stuff is stuff that's been from my collection got it and then i've gotten these slabbed you know grades some of them do all right some of them not i'm happy i got a 10 on the roman that's cool rookie roman rookie i got a 10 on this gold rock out of 50. damn which the last sale i mean it's been over a year now but the last sale on that was like 3 500. what that's the only i think still the only major brothers graded card ooh major [00:09:04] Speaker 1: brothers face off yeah i love them the same set as these yes now tell us about these classic supers so this is a line that i think gets not enough love maybe maybe no love it really doesn't this line changed the game uh not just the figure game but the wrestling game like nostalgia celebrated all because [00:09:25] Derrick Short: this line what does this line mean to you i agree 100 and i think that if you started collecting in the mattel era yeah you're spoiled and oh yeah yeah you don't know the struggles you don't know what it meant i could still remember it's like one of those moments in your life like i remember the computer i was sitting at in the bedroom that i was in when i clicked on ringside collectibles [00:09:48] Speaker 3: and saw a collector series one where it even was and ultimate warrant bret hart why yeah i remember the [00:09:54] Derrick Short: walmart in my college where i got them oh god having like a lot of breakdown and and then you know to see the the new lineups that would come out as they yeah i knew guys it was just like oh my god and i think they're one of the reasons why they don't get the love that they deserve is because they're too similar in scale scale to what is available now right a because now but guys like apa guys like new age outlaws guys they weren't classic superstars right exactly yes yes yes yes so i think the fact that they're so similar in scale is what kind of hurts because if you think like if mattel started three and three quarter yeah and that was their main scale wouldn't wouldn't you think these would be more sought after yeah you know what you know so i think there's some of that too what's your rules with autographing autographing i just got yeah you used to go to all like you probably are familiar with the legends of the ring conventions i used to chronological yes so i don't have them in i don't have them in set order because that doesn't make sense right i took them down i like that i kind of put them this is like yeah and then this kind of goes into the wwf you know wrestlemania era if you look through you'll probably see a lot of wrestlemania matchups get crazy where like val venus comes out right yeah yeah it kind of looks silly to be like in the middle of right you know a lot of classic guys so i did the old old guys and then the older nwa guys into the early wcw and then i started with the wwf now what about the uh do you have and this pretty much goes to like the end of 97 ish on this side so wild like displayed like this and then this picks up you know 97 into 98 into the bottom and i go from when gold dust debuted until when chris jericho's titantron came out jericho was the first titantron that didn't have a bone [00:15:41] Speaker 1: cruncher i like these rules i love i'm gonna steal a lot of this in my toy room well i try to you know i try to put some thought how do you know like when i'm gonna switch it up and do a repaint or new [00:15:53] Derrick Short: mold how do you decide that um i pretty much just go with the the major molds that were made right uh you know you'll notice i probably don't have every mold of every guy right right right um and again series order and that kind of stuff isn't as much like the thought hit me that if i could put some shelves around it yeah and i could take a lot of my bone crunchers off the wall and then have more space you know um so i called up my dad and my dad's pretty handy and i said i got this idea and he was like all right and a half hour later he was here we were in home depot wow and he put this together in a couple hours for what yeah he put it together he put it together right in here and uh you know it's incredible right here and it's pretty much and i like to have i got the toy biz on this side because i wanted it to have kind of like a monday night war kind of vibe so i got the bone crunchers going into toy biz and again this isn't in series order it's kind of like early nwo some heavy hitters wcw wolf pack hollywood what i love about this collection is that vampiro is signed on the wall in there vampiro and shane douglas are signed on the wall in the other room speaking of rare boys [00:18:15] Speaker 1: rick flair employee edition you have another classic superstar up here uh-huh rick flair employee edition one of 25. hollowed out back yeah if you look you can see it from the from the back oh my god you even have the 1996 bret hart glasses that mattel refuses to make yeah so mattel these are the glasses he wore in 96 with the black and pink fans don't even know they exist because mattel refuses to make them but the first house show i ever went to that's awesome um this hogan mirror is like the oldest piece of wrestling merchandise i have that i remember my uncle buying for us when we were like when we first up a picture that includes the tugboat yeah because if they're paying attention yeah that will get their attention and then there was one day i'll never forget it was a sunday afternoon i was at the gym on the stair master pumping away and my buddy starts calling me like he wouldn't ever call me on a sunday afternoon for no reason and he's going i put the picture up and they're dming me and they're asking me all these questions and i don't know what's going on i don't know what to tell them so and i didn't have facebook twitter no nothing at that time so i was like i don't know i said send them my phone number he really wants to talk about it and then i got home from the gym took a shower came down from the shower and then i came downstairs and on my phone was a number from a like a number that wasn't in my phone yeah we don't have to say what the number is no of course not uh and i opened it up and it said hey this is matt cardona slash zach ryder yeah wow i hear you have a tugboat too up where did you get it i got it when it was first put do you remember when it was yeah so people thought it was fake people thought it was fake but like for stupid reasons the lines aren't straight it's hand painted of course and they bro they were paced they were posting links to how you can double the size right right you need an engineering degree you're like i'm not mr wizard like i'm not going to and if i have that type of knowledge i'm certainly not building [00:23:06] Speaker 1: wrestling fingers so what happened was i found the polyurethane tugboat and i'm like holy this sure at that time so i was like oh what's this teeny though it's not it's decent size and this was small if you look at it on hogan compared to i'm just saying like you know the leather is all worn out the leather is all worn out with the strap though it's got it's engraved it's got the reggie parks the plates are worn like the story that came in the ebay listing was my grandfather was given this by a famous wrestler because he drove limos to all [00:25:13] Speaker 3: concerts and sporting events this is wild if this is real i'm trying to find out get some photos to [00:25:20] Derrick Short: the right person and start trying to figure out i've uh i've used it's heavy it's definitely it's certainly not a replica like i have the replica version of there signed by hogan and i mean um how long ago did you get this probably like 2005 2006. yeah like they weren't making like these curved replicas like this yeah that's all of that was i was like all right i'll take a chance on it and then as soon as i bought it you know this was back then when like people could message the buyer on yeah yeah i had messages out the ass right away right after i bought it so then for people oh you got to get a photo match but there's like not a lot of from 1986 yeah and there's not a lot of pictures of the back of the belt because everybody says that the ring used ones which you can see mattel no uh mattel i was getting one of every like new character as they would come out but eventually it just got and it got and like you're like i'm not hanging up with jake atlas that's literally the example i use all the time what am i doing but and i had them but i had figures piled up in here stacks and on the floor and i was just like that's where i'm glad you you recognized the issue i said yeah i said if because it was stressing me out i would get aggravated when ringside would put up new lineups and there'd be a guy that i didn't think i needed a figure of guy that had four matches and you know and i thought like if i'm getting aggravated doing this then i'm doing it wrong yeah i'm glad you had [00:31:13] Speaker 1: that moment i i seeing all these ruthless aggression figures on the wall makes me want to display mine because like that's i mean that was our era that's when we got our first ever figure so it was also being a collector and then switching to being a figure yeah which is like historical for us for you [00:31:28] Derrick Short: of course that's the ultimate is that the only primo uh jacks yeah because he was you know he was released in the jacks era the only primo item uh a couple of classics i want them to point out over here yep just the the signed austin classic deluxe wow we got stephan triple h double sign hogan warrior and hogan's paint pen this was the early early days of paint pen went a little wonky oh boy at the end but he tried that's still pretty warrior hogan complete two pack brett uh brett and sean complete and a bunch of them austin and piper a lot of the tag teams i tried to get double signed and then um these promos up here they're up here because triple h in china were the first wrestlers i ever met the day before summer slam 97 they were at a mall over here yeah people these free [00:32:19] Speaker 3: signings people don't realize five bucks five bucks for a triple h in china and look at that full [00:32:26] Derrick Short: hunter hearst helmsley you know yeah and then these other three came from one of my very best friends that i've had for my entire life uh when i had my accident that led me into my physical current physical condition his mom called titan towers and was like hey this kid you know blah blah blah can you send something so my friend came into the hospital one day with a folder with the wwf logo on it and i opened it up and it was those and a magazine with ahmed johnson wow unbelievable but yeah [00:32:56] Speaker 1: man seeing all these figures from all these different eras like i think this is the greatest [00:33:02] Speaker 3: wrestling figure room that i've ever been in sean is on the zipline yeah bro i wanted to do this and now i feel like i have to do it yeah bro and i tried to find like [00:33:14] Derrick Short: the longest corner this is next level possible what's it holding up there's like um there's screws like they're hooks that you screw in holy what bro i'm saying it right now this is the best [00:33:27] Speaker 3: wrestling figure and this is where you hang and watch pay-per-views yeah this is where we watch [00:33:32] Derrick Short: pay-per-views all Derrick Short: uh a couple months ago maybe three or four months ago i had like five of my best friends over and we ordered pizza hut and we played that for like six hours we just play wow match after everybody whether they're fans or not usually thinks it's cool you know usually likes the look of it people come in my room in there um you know what's funny is when like the cable guy comes in or like we have yeah i don't i don't like that either but they come in and they're like oh wow the one the one cable guy came in one time and he's like looking around he's like yo you got the rock i'm like no man i got all these dudes but i [00:34:26] Speaker 1: don't have the most famous person on planet earth yeah i cannot get over how much stuff you have and how [00:34:33] Derrick Short: uncluttered this room looks that's my whole i try to keep my whole life on cluttered it's cluttery it's not it's not fun and then like i said that gives me stress and i don't that's not [00:34:42] hulk hogan rice krispie treats for my birthday wow and my family thinks that i'm like really psycho to the point that i would get like offended if somebody cut into the head yeah so nobody cut into the head so at the end of the night i just cut it i put it on a plate covered it in tinfoil and stuck it like in my cabinet for it preserved itself it's scary that we eat stuff because that's honestly from like 2009 2010 yeah oh my god yeah you could take a bite out of it yeah you might not yeah you might break your teeth but yeah wow oh yeah and another one of these i got made up similar to the two i got it out there for you guys uh too bad he's had 40 it wasn't yeah at the time it was his last night i got this signed by hulk hogan and john brian you also this brian i am actually wrestlemania six my everything this was signed at the wrestlecon where i met him with what an iconic sharpie faded on a [00:37:05] Speaker 3: poster like that i know but yeah there's no stopping it it's not unfortunate it's like shelton benjamin's [00:37:15] Speaker 1: everywhere i look there's just something new whether it be a t-shirt or a rare figure or figure that's not rare but it just brings back all these like sentimental feelings yeah i could i could live [00:37:27] Derrick Short: in this room for sure well that was the goal that's why i put couches on the tv in here where do you have where's all the stuff for sale it's in the basement which uh is not in the best of shape what's the price on that uh warrior america over there oh that's a big boy big boy that might have some kind of like you know skin covering on it uh but obviously [00:39:37] Speaker 3: you grow out of them and stuff like that and i'm sure the technology's changed yeah the technology has [00:39:41] Derrick Short: changed um and you also they're heavier like that you kind of like start to get over the self-conscious thing and you're like you're looking for function of course yeah um so that's why only the that's the only one i have like that but that's why you know what was i going to do with all of these legs that i have get them signed by amputee wrestlers which there seems to be a growing number of so unfortunately but yeah this is me and zach owen from uh pws that's a railway rec center sure is you know that yeah yeah so i got him to sign that one day and actually the funny thing is uh i had to have my brother take that for me to the signing so my able-bodied my fully able-bodied brother walked up there was a separate time the photo is a separate time yeah the photos the photos years later because i seem to never be able to actually like catch up with i have this opportunity [00:40:34] Speaker 1: of a lifetime i have this opportunity of a lifetime just came up i have an opportunity to buy warrior america it's a lot of money but what do you think can i do it to buy who warrior america usa warrior jazz class superstars only five in the world i have no idea who that is
