'The Devil Wears Prada 2' love interest on sequel: 'It felt surreal'

i [0:11] i don't i do love new places it just kind of breaks my heart when you find a historic building [0:17] and then they do you know well it's heartbreaking and the other thing is you know um i did this [0:23] this is this is me this is my building it's fine it's fine no okay hi hello i'm a jerk i'm peter andy [0:33] and patrick bremmel aka peter is here to tell us more about the movie hi patrick thanks so much [0:37] for coming on it's my pleasure and congratulations what a great project to be a part of thank you [0:42] before we get into that i do know something about madonna's missing pieces oh please tell [0:45] um so she can get in touch with me she's got my number okay all right mystery solved yeah [0:50] so talk to me about this moment right the the word iconic is overused but the devil wears prada is [0:57] iconic so what was your reaction when you found out you were going to play peter in the sequel [1:01] i uh didn't expect to get a job like that ever what was the moment like the moment was kind of [1:08] i mean i was a little bit dissociated from it honestly i was like because they they asked me to [1:14] audition for it and i i just didn't have the time like i was like that's lovely but as an actor [1:19] you're asked to put down 100 tapes and nothing ever happens like you never hear from this type [1:22] to put down maybe future generations will it's like launching a satellite into space [1:26] um but i thought i don't have the time i'm too busy also it's inconvenient because i needed to be [1:30] dad to my kids while my wife was working so even if i got the job it'd be too hard and besides as if [1:35] they're going to give me this job you know so i didn't put it down and then they offered it it came [1:39] i don't even know how it happened but i i went a bit remote about it yeah i was pretty excited later [1:44] when it became real i was like building yeah did you feel like it wasn't at first i don't want to [1:49] tell anybody in case this is a prank or something yeah it felt weird it didn't feel real until i was [1:53] on set with annie which felt surreal in its own way i suppose what was it like to be at the premiere [1:58] last night you're right iconics overused but it was appropriate i mean it was it was they it was jujee [2:06] you know it was uh they had a big fan i mean i walked onto a red carpet behind heidi klung like what [2:11] the hell's going on what's happening with my life you know but you've earned it you've earned your [2:16] place there the interest in this movie is enormous and a lot of your co-stars have talked about the [2:23] crowds that surrounded you when you shot scenes for the movie what was that like to then now you're [2:29] joining a project this big and now you're having to shoot scenes while other people are taking [2:32] pictures of you and watching you that was something i was my first day on set with annie was walking down [2:37] the street in brooklyn and it was first day i'd only just met annie the day before and and then [2:43] i'm walking down the street and she's in this stunning dress and there's like maybe 300 people [2:47] standing around with phones and paparazzi and stuff and i was like this is not normal so i basically just [2:52] clung to her because she's rock steady and she's she's done it all you know what i mean so she was [2:58] very calm in the middle of the storm and i was just doing my best version of pretending to be relaxed [3:03] yeah you've also said that she was a really generous and playful person to work with what [3:09] do you mean by that well you know you're gonna when you're working with somebody like that you've [3:13] got this high caliber of skill she's been at the top of a game for so long what i didn't expect was [3:18] how playful she was in the scene you know we we the nature of working with her was like she was ready [3:24] to take a right angle turn at any moment like she would follow me places and i would go and she felt [3:28] like anything was possible like improv yeah yeah yeah it felt that way you know it felt like [3:33] we could and we did in fact you know we could sort of work around the lines and go with what the [3:38] moment was i mean the writing's amazing you'd never want to tamper with the writing too much at all but [3:42] um she was very very playful and present and she was like an unbelievable scene partner it was great [3:47] i also heard you managed to get yourself a little more screen time with the full cast too [3:51] i i tried i tried because we get to this big party sequence you know and uh and and i was reading [3:59] the script and i was thinking well i'm about to go on a scene with meryl and stanley and everybody [4:03] and my character arrives and makes an excuse and leaves and you never see him again in that scene [4:07] so i was pitching to elaine the writer was like wouldn't it be great though if i go up to miranda [4:10] and i say something inappropriate and i pitch some jokes and she was like yeah that's really funny no [4:15] so it never happened oh boo yeah but i did get to hang out with him on set which was nice [4:20] some of our viewers might also recognize you from colin from accounts i was already telling you in the [4:25] break that my husband and i are huge scenes but i only recently learned that you co-star and co-write the [4:30] show with your real life wife so what's that like and what can you tease for us because i know season [4:35] three is coming up yeah we just wrapped on season three um it's kind of a dream i mean we just wrapped [4:41] season three like i say and harriet and i were like we have to we're gonna keep working together like we [4:47] just it's just like breathing working with her it's like she's the best scene partner i've ever had you [4:51] know but we write everything ourselves so we live with the material for so long so um but actually one of [4:57] the funnest things that we get to write is arguments between our characters so we can we can we can do [5:01] it do you ever pull real arguments into that i can't i can't go into that but top secret top [5:07] secret but they feel pretty real somewhere locked in a vault with madonna's clothing yeah yeah very much [5:11] so patrick ramble so great to have you thank you so much you're great in this film you're great in [5:15] the
