[0:00] This Amy Acton-Vivek Ramaswamy situation is sickening. [0:02] It's exposed a lot. [0:03] It could genuinely change everything [0:05] headed into the midterms. [0:06] You've got Polymarker getting slammed [0:07] for letting people bet on rape charges [0:09] with celebs also now getting dragged into the fold. [0:11] What's really going on with Trump in Ukraine right now? [0:13] Or this million dollar PSA heist is people freaking out. [0:15] We're talking about all of that and even more [0:17] on today's brand new Philip DeFranco show [0:19] you daily dive into the news starting with this. [0:22] This Amy Acton-Vivek Ramaswamy situation [0:24] is genuinely insane. [0:26] Because you have these two in a race [0:27] to become the next governor of Ohio. [0:29] And it is a surprisingly tight race [0:31] in a state that Donald Trump won by 11 points in 2024. [0:34] Right now, two weeks before the election, [0:35] you have this viral video coming out [0:37] of Acton's mom calling her a liar [0:39] and telling people not to vote for her. [0:41] And all of that's actually even crazier than it sounds. [0:43] But a little background first. [0:45] Acton is a doctor who's become widely known [0:46] for running Ohio's COVID response [0:48] as the director of the state's Department of Health. [0:50] And over the years, both she and her brother, Phil Stearns, [0:52] have repeatedly detailed the hunger, neglect, and abuse [0:54] that they said they faced under their mother's custody [0:56] after she and their father got divorced. [0:57] And specifically, during an interview [0:59] with the Vindicator back in 2019, [1:01] you had Acton claiming that her mother, Donna Arthur, [1:03] regularly uprooted them, [1:04] moving the family to around 18 different places [1:06] in her first 12 years, [1:07] including one that was literally [1:09] just a bare-bones basement. [1:10] And you had Acton claiming that at one point, [1:11] the family was even homeless. [1:12] They were living in a tent on a campground [1:13] outside of Youngstown, Ohio during the winter. [1:15] But that eventually, Donna Arthur married a man [1:17] who Acton said had been previously accused [1:19] of molestation and started abusing her [1:21] between the ages of nine and 12. [1:23] And while she didn't provide any more details [1:24] in that particular article, [1:25] the National Review obtained documents [1:27] showing that Acton's stepfather, [1:29] Cledith Arthur, [1:29] was charged with having sexual contact with her [1:31] in 1978 when she was 12 years old, [1:34] but he skipped town after being indicted [1:36] by a grand jury. [1:37] With also the Columbus Dispatch [1:38] finding an archive copy [1:39] of the Youngstown Vindicator from that time, [1:41] where the outlet reported that [1:42] Cledith Arthur had been arrested [1:43] for the rape of a 12-year-old girl [1:45] following an investigation initiated [1:46] by the girl's father. [1:47] And so after that, [1:48] Acton said that she moved in [1:49] with her biological father and his family [1:50] and claimed that the last time she saw her mom [1:52] was in the courthouse after they were charged. [1:54] She added that her mom actually stuck [1:56] with a husband whom her daughter [1:57] had accused of rape [1:58] and both of which skipped town on bond. [2:00] But then what you had is that [2:01] about a year later, [2:02] Arthur did an interview [2:02] with the anti-choice group Operation Rescue [2:04] where she accused Acton of exaggerating [2:06] and outright lying about the details [2:08] of her childhood hardships, [2:09] reclaiming that they were never homeless [2:10] and always had food to eat. [2:12] She also disputed the number of times they moved, [2:13] saying that they were only [2:14] in about a half a dozen different homes. [2:16] Definitely most significant, [2:17] Donna Arthur accused Acton [2:18] of lying about the rape, [2:20] saying that her husband had a daughter [2:21] from her previous marriage [2:22] who had earlier made similar unfounded claims. [2:25] She had her implying that Acton, [2:26] with the help of her biological father, [2:27] used those allegations to fabricate her own. [2:30] Donna Arthur claiming that [2:31] she personally was never charged with any crimes, [2:32] but she sided with her husband in court [2:34] and then left town with him [2:35] after their attorney recommended that they move away [2:37] until things could calm down [2:38] and charges could be dropped. [2:39] And while it's unclear right now [2:40] what ultimately happened with those charges, [2:42] you had the Columbus Dispatch [2:43] indicating that Cleedith Arthur [2:44] was never convicted because he fled Ohio. [2:46] While it's not connected to that case, [2:47] it's worth noting that the National Review [2:49] also reported that Donna Arthur [2:50] has a criminal history of her own, [2:52] including pleading guilty to theft by deception [2:54] in the 1990s [2:55] and being accused of animal abuse [2:56] as recently as 2021. [2:58] But regardless, [2:58] you've had Acton and her brother Stern [3:00] sticking to their story, [3:01] including in this video [3:02] her campaign posted earlier this month. [3:03] Amy's my big sister. [3:05] It was a tough childhood. [3:06] We had all sorts of forms of abuse. [3:10] I received a lot of abuse, [3:12] but Amy always got the worst of it. [3:14] She continued to receive that abuse [3:17] because she knew she had to protect me [3:21] from that. [3:22] But the reason that we're talking about [3:23] all this today is that mom, [3:24] Donna Arthur, [3:25] has now gone absolutely viral. [3:27] My name is Donna Arthur, [3:29] and I'm Amy Acton's mother. [3:32] I worked at Children and Family Service Association, [3:35] building one of the first [3:37] two sexual abuse programs in America. [3:41] I love my daughter, [3:42] but when I saw her lying [3:44] about her opponent, [3:45] and it's not easy for a mother to say this, [3:48] that Amy has a serious problem. [3:51] She is a liar. [3:53] She lies about her past. [3:55] She says she grew up living in a tent. [3:58] None of that is true. [4:00] She's lied her entire life. [4:03] My daughter needs help, [4:05] and she can't help you [4:06] if she needs help herself. [4:09] People can change, [4:10] but first they have to tell the truth, [4:13] and my daughter still isn't doing that. [4:15] Don't vote for people who lie. [4:18] Don't let her become your governor. [4:20] If you think she'll make your life better, [4:23] you're fooling yourself. [4:25] It will only get worse. [4:26] Okay, so first of all, [4:27] as of right now, [4:28] we do not know where that video came from [4:30] or who made it, [4:31] but it appears that it was first shared [4:32] by Ohio political blogger DJ Burns, [4:34] who runs a substat called The Rooster, [4:35] and you also have him claiming on Facebook [4:36] that the video is an attack ad [4:37] that Ramaswamy's campaign [4:39] was currently polling, [4:39] but it also doesn't appear [4:40] that he's provided any details [4:42] about how he obtained the video [4:43] or those specific details. [4:45] And while it certainly feels like a campaign ad, [4:47] you may have noticed [4:47] that it doesn't have any of the usual [4:49] legal disclaimers at the end [4:50] saying who paid for the video, [4:51] or which would generally be required [4:52] if it came from Ramaswamy's campaign [4:54] or an outside group backing it. [4:55] Although if this is just an ad [4:56] that they were testing, [4:57] it is possible that those disclaimers [4:58] won't be attached yet. [4:59] And her team hasn't seen anything [5:00] to indicate that it's actually been [5:01] aired officially anywhere. [5:03] Despite that, [5:03] you would act in claiming [5:04] that Ramaswamy's campaign [5:05] is behind the video, [5:06] or with her campaign issuing a statement [5:07] from her brother saying, [5:08] it's not surprising that Vivek Ramaswamy [5:10] is stooped to such a despicable low [5:12] as to attempt to turn [5:13] the sexual abuse Amy endured [5:14] at 12 years old [5:15] from our birth mother's husband [5:17] into a political talking point. [5:18] And adding, [5:18] after he was arrested [5:19] and Amy and I were removed [5:20] from their custody, [5:21] our birth mother [5:22] stayed married to Amy's rapist [5:23] until he died. [5:24] Saying, [5:24] this desperate, disgusting attack [5:26] reveals exactly who Vivek Ramaswamy [5:28] is at his core. [5:29] Pathetic excuse for a man [5:30] who is willing to hurt anyone [5:31] as long as it gets him [5:32] what he wants. [5:33] And you also had Acton herself [5:34] echoing that in an interview. [5:35] I won't normalize somebody [5:37] who has said that my childhood [5:39] is something I'm just complaining about, [5:41] who today just released an ad [5:43] using my birth mother [5:45] who I was removed from [5:46] at the age of 12 [5:48] for severe abuse and neglect [5:50] and sexual abuse. [5:52] My brother and I were removed. [5:53] Words our leaders use matter. [5:56] And I think it's going to take courage [5:58] right now from all of us [6:00] to stop normalizing [6:02] this sort of rhetoric. [6:04] And it is true that Ramaswamy [6:06] did say that Acton was complaining [6:07] about her alleged rape and abuse. [6:09] We have a chance to elect a governor [6:11] who, I hope I'll lay it out for you, [6:13] a positive vision for our state [6:15] versus a governor who has none at all [6:18] other than to complain [6:19] about what someone else did to her. [6:21] And while as of recording, [6:22] multiple outlets have not been able [6:23] to independently establish [6:24] who is behind the video, [6:26] you did have a spokesperson [6:26] for Ramaswamy's campaign saying, [6:28] we don't know what happened [6:29] between Amy and her mother [6:30] who first spoke out about Amy in 2020. [6:32] But we know that Amy Acton [6:33] is a serial fabulist [6:34] who has some serious problems [6:36] with the truth [6:36] that the public needs to be aware of [6:38] before deciding [6:38] who to entrust as governor. [6:40] Notting Vivek wants this election [6:41] to focus on solutions, [6:42] but Amy Acton has repeatedly lied [6:44] about Vivek and his family, [6:45] misrepresented her own record [6:46] and hidden from debates and voters. [6:48] Within some, [6:48] taking that as an implicit admission [6:50] that the campaign was behind this [6:51] and noting that the statement [6:52] doesn't actually deny involvement. [6:54] And with all this, [6:55] the response online has been massive. [6:56] On one side, [6:56] you had Republicans [6:57] and Ramaswamy supporters [6:58] trying to paint this video [6:59] as this massive bombshell [7:00] that's gonna totally upset [7:01] the governor's race, [7:02] which multiple polls [7:03] show acting narrowly leading. [7:04] There's a lot of neck and neck. [7:05] You also had a ton of people [7:07] hitting back, [7:07] noting that the video [7:08] leaves out the fact [7:09] that this woman [7:09] literally abandoned her children [7:11] for a man who was charged [7:12] with raping her daughter. [7:13] In the video, [7:13] it tries to paint her [7:14] as a credible witness [7:15] while leaving out [7:15] the accompanying abuse allegations [7:17] that both her children [7:18] have made against her. [7:19] And so overall, [7:19] you have some even arguing [7:20] that this video [7:21] might actually just blow up [7:22] in Ramaswamy's face. [7:23] It might backfire. [7:24] As far as how this is going [7:25] to impact the election, [7:26] we're gonna have to wait to see. [7:27] Because all the reactions, [7:28] all the polling, [7:29] none of it really matters [7:29] unless you go out and vote. [7:31] Let this be your daily reminder [7:32] to get the fuck out there [7:33] and vote. [7:34] Early voting started [7:35] in a lot of places. [7:36] Go to vote.org, [7:37] make a plan, [7:38] know where you're going to vote. [7:39] And also, [7:40] really, [7:40] never been a better time [7:41] to hit up your normie friends [7:42] who do not keep up [7:43] with politics normally [7:44] and go, [7:44] hey, [7:44] there's an election happening right now. [7:46] Let's do this thing. [7:46] But then to jump from that [7:48] to other news [7:48] that's popping off right now, [7:50] it's kind of very unserious [7:51] political news, [7:52] though very interesting news. [7:53] The rising star [7:54] of the Democratic Party, [7:55] Indiana's Jamie West, [7:56] is standing 10 toes down [7:57] on her viral [7:58] fire all Republicans comment [7:59] from last week. [8:00] Right. [8:00] That may be unpopular [8:02] with some voters. [8:03] Unpopular with some voters. [8:03] But is in the best interest [8:04] of the county. [8:05] Hmm. [8:09] Firing all Republicans. [8:11] I wouldn't let them. [8:12] I mean, [8:12] I don't even talk to them. [8:15] I don't like them. [8:16] They didn't know she's maggots [8:17] who are just racist [8:19] and aren't very intelligent [8:23] at all. [8:24] Your opportunity [8:24] to say just a few last words [8:27] to the voters. [8:29] Hmm. [8:30] We have guns, too. [8:32] So no, [8:32] not an SNL skit, [8:33] but rather the actual [8:34] Democratic candidate [8:35] for Fayette County [8:35] Council District 4. [8:37] And after you had that clip, [8:37] making the rounds, [8:38] going viral, [8:39] you had a lot of people [8:40] having a lot of questions. [8:41] Mostly A, [8:41] how many drinks [8:42] did she have before this event? [8:43] And B, [8:44] will there be some kind [8:45] of attempt at damage control [8:46] or will she lean into it? [8:48] And well, [8:48] yesterday we got [8:49] some answers [8:50] because she appeared [8:50] on Piers Morgan's show [8:51] for an interview [8:52] about that viral moment. [8:53] And you had Morgan [8:53] grilling her [8:54] about her alcohol intake [8:55] or opinions about Republicans [8:56] and her personal relationships. [8:58] And I have to say, [8:59] this is one of those cases [9:00] where the sequel [9:00] is just as good [9:02] as the original. [9:02] I had a Coors Light. [9:04] I had a beer. [9:06] What? [9:06] One beer? [9:07] Jamie, [9:07] here's your chance [9:08] to be completely honest [9:09] and transparent. [9:10] How many beers [9:11] did you have? [9:12] All right. [9:14] Three. [9:14] Is there anything you said [9:15] whilst under the influence [9:17] of your beers [9:18] that you now, [9:19] with the benefit of hindsight, [9:20] maybe wished you hadn't said? [9:22] No. [9:23] I say it all the time. [9:25] I'm not friends with them. [9:27] I don't like them. [9:28] Okay. [9:29] They voted for all of this [9:30] that's happening [9:31] to our country. [9:33] We have a constitutional crisis. [9:36] I've been fighting this fight [9:37] for 10 years, man. [9:38] I've been going to the State House [9:40] to beg [9:40] the Republican politicians [9:44] who have been in control [9:45] of Indiana for 20 years [9:46] not to take away [9:47] our public funding, [9:48] our public schools, [9:49] our emergency services [9:51] that we need. [9:52] So there you have it. [9:53] Even though West admitted [9:53] that she was three beers in [9:55] during that TV forum, [9:56] she stands by [9:57] just fucking hating Republicans. [9:58] But, [9:59] as it turns out, [10:00] there is one Republican [10:01] that she is okay with [10:02] and that is her partner. [10:03] Who, [10:03] as it turns out, [10:04] she calls her husband [10:05] but apparently [10:05] they are not legally married. [10:07] Actually, [10:07] my husband [10:08] is a Republican. [10:10] Wow. [10:10] He's a conservative. [10:11] He's a libertarian. [10:12] Have you fired him yet? [10:14] No. [10:15] We don't talk about politics. [10:17] But I've got his vote. [10:19] I mean, [10:19] you sleep with a Republican. [10:20] We're not technically married. [10:22] We've been together [10:23] about 14 years [10:25] so I just coined my husband. [10:26] I hate to be personal [10:26] but do you have sex [10:28] with your husband? [10:28] Come in law. [10:29] Well, [10:29] do you have sex [10:30] with your husband? [10:30] Every now and then. [10:33] This is actually [10:34] one of the other reasons [10:35] I love local politics. [10:36] A lot of the people [10:37] are not even [10:37] the slightest bit [10:38] media trained. [10:39] Like, [10:39] it genuinely feels [10:40] like old school YouTube [10:40] except these are people [10:42] who, [10:42] like, [10:42] control things. [10:43] And so with all this, [10:44] you're seeing all kinds [10:45] of reactions [10:45] to both their bold stances [10:46] and the slurred delivery. [10:48] Though there, [10:48] I'll know that Wes claimed [10:49] that she had not had [10:50] a single drink [10:51] before the Pierce Morgan interview [10:52] but still, [10:52] you had some people [10:53] questioning that [10:54] saying she still sounded drunk. [10:55] Well, [10:55] you know, [10:55] you have a lot of people [10:56] out there [10:56] that are just kind of [10:56] laughing at this [10:57] and enjoying the memes. [10:58] There also are [10:59] a decent chunk of people [11:00] who seem to find Wes [11:02] genuinely refreshing. [11:03] For example, [11:03] one person commenting [11:04] on that interview saying, [11:05] this bitch is drunk as fuck [11:06] and she's still making [11:07] more sense than Trump or MAGA. [11:09] At least she's honest. [11:10] And you had others [11:10] echoing that sentiment [11:11] and comments [11:12] on the original TV forum [11:13] and you had another person [11:14] also comparing her [11:15] to Trump [11:16] saying they are going [11:16] to hate this woman. [11:17] She talks like Trump [11:18] but on the complete [11:19] opposite end of the argument. [11:20] And that's as you saw [11:21] some out there saying, [11:22] hey, [11:22] they loved her brutal honesty [11:23] ranting about [11:24] the Republican leadership [11:25] out there, [11:25] you know, [11:25] calling it a contrast [11:26] to Dem leadership [11:27] saying shit like [11:28] we need a strong [11:29] Republican party. [11:30] And while Jamie [11:30] is definitely [11:31] a specific, [11:32] unique person, [11:33] this whole situation [11:33] does kind of touch on [11:34] people increasingly [11:35] valuing authenticity [11:36] from their political candidates. [11:38] Someone who's not [11:39] afraid to push boundaries [11:40] and take on the establishment. [11:41] But of course, [11:41] at the same time, [11:42] there are very valid concerns [11:43] about the alcohol situation here. [11:45] And not everyone, [11:45] you know, [11:46] is buying what West is selling. [11:47] Early voting, [11:47] it's already started [11:48] in Fayette County [11:49] and local reporters there [11:50] visited a polling location [11:51] last week to ask voters [11:52] what they thought [11:52] about West's initial [11:53] viral comments. [11:54] In there, [11:54] you had people reportedly [11:55] saying things like, [11:56] it's pitiful that we [11:56] have candidates like that [11:58] saying she just rambles, [11:59] she don't say anything [12:00] worth listening to, [12:01] she just rambles. [12:02] And another local saying, [12:03] she did seem a little off, [12:04] I don't think she knows [12:05] what's up and down. [12:06] But that's also has you [12:06] had West claiming [12:07] that she's heard [12:07] from a lot of people [12:08] who are excited to vote for her. [12:09] But I will say, [12:09] as entertaining as the situation's [12:11] been for a lot of different people [12:12] all over the place, [12:13] as far as Jamie [12:13] and this election cycle, [12:15] she's very likely [12:15] not going to be voted in. [12:16] And not even because [12:17] of this whole situation. [12:18] The county she is running in [12:19] in 2024, [12:20] they voted for Trump [12:21] 77 and a half percent. [12:22] And while anything, [12:23] you know, [12:23] seems possible [12:24] this election cycle, [12:25] you know, [12:25] there are still limits to that. [12:27] Then there's even more [12:28] we got to dive into [12:29] in just a minute, [12:30] but really quick, [12:31] a small break with a sponsor. [12:32] You know, [12:32] when I first signed up [12:33] with today's sponsor, [12:34] Rocket Money, [12:34] it showed me subscriptions [12:35] I thought I'd canceled years ago, [12:37] but apparently I'm pretty sure [12:38] I canceled that [12:39] is not a financial strategy. [12:40] And even after using [12:41] Rocket Money for years now, [12:42] I like that it keeps me honest [12:43] because the subscriptions [12:44] have a way of quietly multiplying. [12:46] And Rocket Money tracks [12:47] your subscriptions in one place [12:48] so you can see [12:48] what you're paying for [12:49] instead of playing detective [12:50] with your bank statement. [12:50] You see something [12:51] you don't want anymore? [12:52] Premium can help you [12:53] cancel eligible subscriptions [12:54] with just a few taps. [12:55] Also, [12:55] it shows me where my money's going [12:57] by categorizing spending [12:58] across accounts. [12:59] And there's a big difference [12:59] between thinking [13:00] I haven't spent that much [13:01] and having an app [13:02] politely present evidence [13:03] to the contrary. [13:04] You can also set budgets [13:05] and spending goals [13:05] with insights into how you're tracking. [13:07] You can also send alerts [13:08] for upcoming bills, [13:09] large transactions, [13:10] new subscriptions, [13:11] refunds, [13:11] and low balances. [13:12] And everything lives [13:13] in one dashboard. [13:13] So checking my finances [13:15] doesn't require opening six apps [13:16] and building a conspiracy board. [13:17] And that's why I keep using it, right? [13:18] Rocket Money makes it easier [13:20] to see what's happening [13:20] before I get surprised. [13:21] So hey, [13:22] go to rocketmoney.com [13:23] slash fill [13:24] or scan that QR code [13:25] to get started [13:25] and to unlock even more features [13:27] when you sign up for premium. [13:28] That's rocketmoney.com [13:29] slash fill [13:30] or click that link [13:30] in my description. [13:31] But then, [13:32] Devin, [13:32] right back into the news, [13:33] you've got Polymarket [13:34] under fire right now [13:35] after allowing people [13:36] to wager on the Cornell 7 [13:37] because they reportedly [13:38] had a market [13:38] where people could bet [13:39] on whether or not [13:40] any of the men [13:40] accused in the lawsuit [13:41] of raping Jane Doe [13:42] will face felony [13:43] sex crime charges. [13:44] Yesterday, [13:44] there was over $450,000 [13:45] on that market [13:46] which was at a 28% chance. [13:48] And so you had no shortage [13:48] of people [13:49] that were furious [13:49] that Polymarket [13:50] was allowing wagers on this. [13:51] Right with gender justice [13:52] organization, [13:53] Ultraviolet [13:53] putting out a statement [13:54] saying, [13:54] Polymarket wants you [13:55] to bet on rape [13:56] and arguing that [13:57] this could actually [13:57] undermine Jane Doe's [13:58] legal case. [13:59] Saying, [13:59] what happens [14:00] if people with influence [14:00] over a rape case, [14:01] judges, lawyers, [14:02] or jurors, [14:03] place bets [14:04] and then try to shape [14:04] the outcome? [14:05] Saying, [14:05] even if they [14:06] aren't betting themselves, [14:07] what if the odds [14:07] displayed in Polymarket [14:08] sway their opinions? [14:10] And you also had [14:10] a survivor's rights [14:11] organization adding, [14:12] what kind of person [14:12] looks at a sexual assault [14:13] case and sees an [14:14] opportunity to make money? [14:15] And what kind of company [14:16] decides to give them [14:17] that opportunity? [14:18] What message does this [14:19] send to every survivor [14:20] of sexual assault [14:20] to the student deciding [14:21] whether to report [14:22] to the child afraid [14:23] no one will believe them? [14:24] With others online [14:25] just calling it disgusting [14:25] and accusing Polymarket [14:27] of gamifying [14:27] and profiting off of rape. [14:29] But also, [14:29] it's not just Polymarket [14:30] that's facing the backlash. [14:31] You've also had many [14:32] calling out sports [14:32] organizations like the MLB [14:34] who are official partners [14:35] with Polymarket [14:36] condemning the league [14:37] for working with this company. [14:38] And that's on top [14:38] of people calling out [14:39] the many celebrities [14:40] who have now promoted [14:41] Polymarket and appeared [14:42] in their ads. [14:42] People like Eli Manning, [14:43] Derek Jeter, [14:44] LeBron James. [14:45] LeBron James alone, [14:46] he's reportedly being paid [14:46] $15 million a year [14:48] to rep the prediction market. [14:49] And so with all this, [14:49] you had a lawyer [14:50] and an activist arguing, [14:51] Now, Polymarket is known [14:52] to be a soulless corporation [14:53] with pretty much [14:54] no moral boundaries. [14:55] But to every celebrity [14:56] that's taking tens [14:57] of millions of dollars [14:58] to promote this platform, [15:00] is this really what you [15:01] want to be associated with? [15:02] As far as Polymarket, [15:03] you have them defending [15:03] themselves, [15:04] to front office sports, [15:05] claiming that markets [15:06] bring better unbiased [15:07] information about [15:08] important events [15:08] in contrast to the [15:09] disinformation we're [15:10] all drowning in, [15:11] which too often [15:11] leaves the public [15:12] misled and disillusioned [15:13] to the point of apathy. [15:14] But also as of this morning, [15:15] it appears the Polymarket [15:16] has taken the wager down. [15:17] Though still, [15:18] in its international market, [15:19] it allows you to bet [15:19] on other aspects of the story, [15:21] like whether or not [15:21] Cornell's president [15:22] will resign or be ousted. [15:23] But the celebrity backlash [15:24] here is interesting [15:25] because it comes as [15:26] there has been [15:26] mounting criticisms [15:27] for pretty much anyone [15:27] who's taking [15:28] prediction market money. [15:29] And in fact, [15:29] just a few days ago, [15:30] you were at the LA Times [15:30] publishing this big op-ed [15:31] arguing that celebrities [15:32] who shill for sports betting [15:34] are the modern Marlboro men. [15:35] And calling out [15:35] not just the people [15:36] promoting Polymarket, [15:37] but people like Sidney Sweeney, [15:38] who have, you know, [15:39] these very viral promos [15:40] of Novick, [15:41] they apparently have equity, [15:42] Timothee Chalamet, [15:43] who's done ads with Kalshi, [15:44] and athletes like Tom Brady, [15:46] who have appeared in general [15:46] sports betting commercials [15:47] for BetMGM. [15:48] And with that piece saying, [15:49] in the mid-20th century, [15:50] tobacco companies [15:51] paid sports heroes [15:52] and movie stars [15:52] to hawk their cigarette brands [15:53] in a campaign [15:54] to portray smoking [15:55] as part of a happy [15:56] and healthy lifestyle [15:57] rather than as a gateway [15:58] to addiction, [15:59] disease, [15:59] and premature death. [16:00] Saying back in 1950, [16:02] athletes' salaries [16:02] were fairly modest [16:03] and many players [16:04] took a job in the off-season [16:05] to make ends meet. [16:06] But then adding [16:06] with the net worth [16:07] of many recent stars [16:08] in the tens [16:08] or hundreds of millions [16:10] of dollars, [16:10] it's hard to imagine [16:11] them facing similar straits. [16:12] And so when it comes [16:13] to people like LeBron, [16:14] he's the first active NBA player [16:15] to become a billionaire. [16:16] And Sidney Sweeney, [16:17] she's considered [16:17] one of the highest paid actors [16:18] of her generation. [16:19] And Tom Brady, [16:20] he's actually currently [16:21] making more as a commentator [16:22] than he did as a player [16:23] with a $375 million contract. [16:25] So you're talking about people [16:25] who by no means [16:26] need more money, [16:27] but they're still taking [16:28] these checks [16:28] to promote platforms [16:29] that cause the general public [16:30] to lose tons of money. [16:31] But then also putting [16:32] the celebrities aside, [16:33] these Cornell 7 wagers, [16:34] they highlight another [16:35] major issue [16:36] when it comes [16:36] to prediction markets. [16:37] With the concern of, [16:38] can they potentially [16:39] influence our legal system? [16:40] And with that, [16:41] earlier this month, [16:41] you had the Wall Street Journal [16:42] doing this big report [16:43] on how courts [16:43] are trying to figure out [16:44] how to handle people [16:45] that are betting [16:46] on jury trials. [16:46] Right over the summer, [16:47] people bet a lot of money [16:48] on how Lindsay Clancy's trial [16:50] was going to turn out [16:50] and even more [16:51] has already been spent [16:52] on Tyler Robinson's [16:53] upcoming trial. [16:53] And so you've got [16:54] the president of the [16:54] National Association [16:55] of Criminal Defense Lawyers [16:56] saying, [16:56] when the public treats [16:57] a courtroom like a casino, [16:58] due process is susceptible [16:59] to corruption. [17:00] Or with some concern [17:01] that jurors and court staffers [17:02] following deliberations [17:03] could place bets. [17:04] And others also worry [17:05] that these markets [17:05] could influence [17:06] how a jury sees a case. [17:07] Or say a juror [17:08] is leaning towards [17:09] not guilty, [17:09] but the market says [17:10] 98% favor guilty, [17:12] does that cause them [17:12] to question themselves? [17:13] And I will say, [17:14] since it doesn't feel [17:15] like these markets [17:15] are going to be properly [17:17] regulated, [17:17] these are very likely [17:18] going to be situations [17:19] and problems [17:19] that we're going to have [17:20] to deal with relatively soon. [17:22] And of course, [17:22] I say that as we've already [17:23] had numerous controversies [17:25] and scandals involved [17:26] in insider trading and more. [17:28] But then jumping [17:28] from that to other news, [17:29] we've got to talk about [17:30] Donald Trump and Zelensky. [17:31] Because their relationship, [17:32] it's been this rollercoaster. [17:33] And of course, [17:34] one of the big low points [17:35] was last year [17:36] when Trump and Vance [17:37] just did this bullshit. [17:38] You're gambling [17:39] with World War III. [17:41] And what you're doing [17:42] is very disrespectful. [17:44] Have you said [17:44] thank you once? [17:45] This entire time. [17:46] And while since then, [17:47] things between Trump [17:48] and Zelensky, [17:49] they seem to cool down [17:50] with a meeting [17:50] on the sidelines [17:51] of the UN General Assembly [17:52] and Trump even imposing [17:53] new sanctions on Russia. [17:54] As the midterm elections [17:55] have approached, [17:56] Trump's been looking [17:56] for anyone to blame [17:57] for high gas prices [17:58] except himself. [17:59] And so he's increasingly [17:59] settled on Zelensky. [18:01] Russia, frankly, [18:02] has been fine on Ukraine. [18:04] They haven't been doing much. [18:05] Frankly, Zelensky [18:07] is not helping matters much. [18:09] I think he doesn't [18:10] want to stop it. [18:11] But I want to see [18:12] people not die. [18:13] I think it's time [18:14] for somebody else [18:15] to negotiate [18:16] on behalf of Ukraine. [18:18] So Trump, [18:18] he backed out of sanctions [18:19] on Russian oil and gas [18:20] two days before [18:21] they were set to take effect, [18:22] which, by the way, [18:23] is arguably illegal. [18:24] Because those sanctions [18:25] were passed overwhelmingly [18:26] by our Congress last month [18:28] and signed into law [18:28] by Trump himself. [18:29] But then with an executive order, [18:30] he just went, [18:31] nah, never mind. [18:32] Also, a week earlier, [18:33] you had Trump announcing [18:33] a deal to import millions [18:34] of tons of diesel fuel [18:35] from Russia. [18:36] With the matting that Russia [18:37] and Ukraine had agreed [18:37] not to attack each other's [18:39] energy infrastructure. [18:39] But of course, [18:40] Russia kept attacking [18:41] Ukrainian energy, [18:42] so Ukraine retaliated as well. [18:43] But who did Trump [18:44] get mad at? [18:45] Definitely not Russia. [18:46] Zelensky could have settled [18:47] this war many times. [18:49] Many, many times. [18:51] And he chooses not to. [18:53] And we told him, [18:54] do whatever you want, [18:55] but don't hit the diesel fuel [18:57] because there's a big problem [18:58] with big Jordan. [18:59] And what does he do? [19:00] He goes and hits the diesel fuel. [19:02] And I think it's time [19:02] for Ukraine to get [19:03] a new president. [19:04] Well, now it looks like [19:05] Trump may be punishing Ukraine [19:06] for not just surrendering [19:07] to Russia. [19:08] Because there are reports [19:09] that Pete Hegseth [19:10] is holding back [19:10] Patriot Interceptor missiles [19:12] from being sent to Ukraine. [19:13] With officials saying [19:13] he's neither formally [19:14] rejected the aid [19:15] nor approved it. [19:16] And so the Ukrainians [19:17] are, I guess, [19:17] just stuck in limbo. [19:18] And also, [19:19] here's one of the crazy things. [19:20] These missiles aren't even [19:21] coming from the U.S. [19:22] At least some of these [19:23] are owned by other allies [19:24] who want to give them [19:25] to Ukraine. [19:26] But because the U.S. [19:26] manufactured them originally, [19:27] Hegseth has to approve [19:28] any transfers to third parties. [19:30] And as you might imagine, [19:31] he's not the most eager [19:32] to give them away [19:33] willy-nilly [19:33] even if his boss [19:34] wasn't crashing out [19:35] on Ukraine. [19:36] That's because Patriot missiles, [19:37] they cost some [19:37] $4 million a pop. [19:39] They take up to three years [19:40] to produce new ones. [19:41] And the Iran war [19:42] is depleted stockpiles [19:43] to critical levels. [19:44] But if they're being [19:44] withheld from Ukraine [19:45] just because of gas prices, [19:46] as many believe, [19:47] that's kind of insane. [19:48] These are defensive weapons, [19:49] not something being fired [19:50] into Moscow [19:51] or Russian oil refineries. [19:52] When these missiles [19:52] don't get transferred, [19:53] people die. [19:54] Innocent people, [19:55] civilians, [19:56] children. [19:56] Infrastructure gets blown up. [19:57] Millions of people [19:58] lose electricity, [19:59] transportation stops, [20:00] food supplies. [20:01] They get disrupted. [20:02] And according to reports, [20:03] Russia's plan right now [20:03] is to make Ukrainian cities [20:04] unlivable by the winter. [20:06] Which is why [20:06] they've been targeting [20:07] infrastructure critical [20:08] for heating and water supplies. [20:09] But also, [20:10] putting the Patriot missiles [20:11] aside for a moment, [20:12] it's even worse [20:12] if the Ukrainians [20:13] don't know [20:14] when Russian attacks [20:14] are coming in the first place. [20:15] And for weeks now, [20:16] Zelensky's complained [20:17] that Ukraine [20:17] isn't getting an early warning [20:19] about Russian drone [20:19] and missile strikes, [20:20] which they normally get [20:21] from U.S. intelligence. [20:22] With him writing yesterday, [20:23] once again, [20:24] there was a Russian [20:24] ballistic missile attack [20:25] in several waves overnight. [20:26] And once again, [20:27] there was no warning [20:28] from our partners. [20:29] With Zelensky adding, [20:30] we have welcomed [20:30] literally every attempt [20:31] by our partners [20:32] to end this war with dignity. [20:33] Saying it is very important [20:34] to call things [20:35] by their proper names. [20:36] We must call the aggressor [20:37] an aggressor [20:38] and help Ukraine protect lives. [20:39] Saying when deliveries [20:40] of missiles for Ukraine's [20:41] air defense are blocked [20:42] while Russia receives [20:43] sanctions relief or delays, [20:44] this is unfortunately [20:45] a denial of reality [20:46] on the part of our partners. [20:47] And you've got this coming [20:48] as reports, [20:49] including from Zelensky himself, [20:50] have previously claimed [20:51] that U.S. officials [20:51] threatened to cut off intelligence [20:53] unless Ukraine [20:53] stopped attacking Russian energy. [20:55] But as far as Marco Rubio, [20:56] he's insisted that these reports, [20:58] they're just bullshit. [20:58] I saw somebody associated [21:00] with the Ukrainian government [21:01] say that people in Ukraine [21:02] are dying because the U.S. [21:03] is denying them information. [21:05] That's scandalous. [21:06] That's outrageous. [21:07] That's just simply not true. [21:08] That's not accurate. [21:09] But it's also not just [21:09] the missiles or the intelligence. [21:11] Satellite internet [21:12] has reportedly been restricted [21:12] for Ukraine as well. [21:13] Or with sources saying [21:14] that Starshield, [21:15] the version of SpaceX's Starlink [21:16] that Ukraine's military uses, [21:18] suddenly stopped working [21:18] for soldiers in the field. [21:20] So that means that air defense personnel [21:21] couldn't intercept drones and missiles [21:23] and attack drone operators [21:24] couldn't go after Russian positions. [21:25] So for example, [21:26] Ukraine uses internet-connected [21:27] interceptor drones [21:28] that normally reach speeds [21:29] of over 180 miles per hour. [21:31] But you had officials saying [21:32] that they were suddenly limited [21:33] to just 100 miles per hour. [21:34] With one of Zelensky's advisors posting, [21:36] it is obvious that this move [21:37] cannot be a coincidence [21:38] and is linked [21:39] to the current political situation. [21:40] In a post on Twitter, [21:41] you had Elon Musk [21:42] shifting the blame, [21:42] writing, [21:43] Starshield systems are owned [21:44] and controlled by the U.S. government, [21:45] saying any limits on speed or usage [21:47] are decided by the U.S. military [21:48] and ultimately POTUS. [21:50] But also as far as Elon, [21:51] he has publicly agreed with Trump [21:52] that Zelensky has gone too far [21:53] in attacking Russian energy, [21:55] even though Russia [21:55] keeps attacking Ukrainian energy. [21:57] And so he's feeding just as much [21:58] into the big lie [21:59] that Ukraine is somehow [22:00] the obstacle to peace, [22:01] not Russia. [22:02] And you had Trump [22:02] really taking that line [22:03] to absurd lengths yesterday. [22:05] You know what? [22:05] We've given a lot to Ukraine. [22:07] They've given nothing to us. [22:09] Remember that. [22:10] We've given a lot to Ukraine. [22:12] They've given us nothing. [22:13] But as you've got people [22:14] like historian Timothy Snyder [22:15] explaining, [22:16] that is wrong [22:17] in both the narrow [22:17] and the broad sense. [22:19] Right, narrowly, [22:19] Ukraine's been providing [22:20] battlefield intelligence [22:21] to the United States [22:22] from the beginning of the war. [22:23] And it even sent hundreds [22:24] of its own experts [22:25] to the Middle East [22:25] to help protect Americans [22:26] from Iranian drones. [22:27] But broadly, [22:28] Ukraine has contributed [22:29] to world security. [22:30] And Snyder listed some examples [22:31] by pointing out [22:32] that they're defending [22:33] the basic principle [22:34] of international law [22:35] and defending Europe [22:35] from Russian aggression. [22:36] And also adding [22:37] that they're making [22:37] both World War III [22:38] and nuclear war [22:39] less likely [22:40] by demonstrating [22:41] the difficulties [22:41] and offensive operations [22:42] and thereby [22:43] deterring China [22:44] from invading Taiwan. [22:45] And then lastly, [22:46] they're defending [22:46] the ideals of freedom [22:48] and democracy [22:48] against oligarchy [22:49] and autocracy. [22:50] And so it's Snyder concluding [22:51] that Trump's statement [22:52] is not only unjust, [22:53] it is not only a lie, [22:54] it is a big lie [22:55] whose purpose is [22:56] not to describe the world [22:57] but to change it, [22:58] to blame the victim [22:59] and assist the aggressor, [23:00] to betray the ally [23:01] and destroy the alliances, [23:03] to create a world [23:03] in which everyone [23:04] must feel unsafe [23:05] except the wealthy [23:06] and powerful, [23:07] a world in which [23:08] all that matters [23:09] are the personal feelings [23:10] and personal dealings [23:11] of a handful of oligarchs [23:12] and dictators. [23:13] And then from that, [23:14] we've got three more things [23:15] we've got to dive into today, [23:16] but really quick, [23:16] a small break [23:17] with our sponsor. [23:18] You know, [23:18] I reached a point [23:18] where saving five minutes [23:20] feels like winning the lottery. [23:21] Like, [23:21] I'll absolutely spend [23:22] 10 minutes figuring out [23:23] how to save five. [23:24] Between work, [23:24] kids, [23:25] and everything else [23:25] going on in life, [23:26] like I'm automating [23:27] reminders, [23:28] ordering essentials online, [23:29] and generally trying [23:30] to keep my schedule [23:30] from becoming a crime scene. [23:31] And you know, [23:31] we all have our own [23:32] time-saving hacks [23:33] for everyday life, [23:33] but if you are a business owner, [23:35] how can you save time hiring? [23:54] And at ZipRecruiter, [23:55] candidates can explain [23:56] in their own words [23:57] why they're interested [23:58] instead of leaving you [23:59] to play detective [23:59] with a stack of resumes. [24:20] And then, Devin, [24:21] right back in the news, [24:22] we've got a few things [24:22] to talk about [24:23] starting with this. [24:23] A nearly million dollar heist [24:25] just rocked [24:25] the trading card world [24:26] because you had thieves [24:27] breaking into a FedEx truck [24:28] left unattended [24:28] for over an hour [24:29] outside of PSA's [24:30] Santa Ana headquarters [24:31] with a card grading giant [24:32] and they made off [24:33] with over two and a half pallets [24:34] of freshly graded Pokemon, [24:36] sports, Magic the Gathering, [24:37] and Yu-Gi-Oh cards. [24:38] And while the official cost [24:39] of the stolen goods [24:39] is about a million dollars, [24:40] police still need [24:41] to figure out [24:41] what's missing [24:42] from half a pallet [24:43] so that number [24:44] could skyrocket. [24:44] And for some of the people here, [24:45] the losses are substantial. [24:47] Prominent creator Sky B [24:48] revealed his entire [24:48] 104 card submission [24:50] worth over $100,000 [24:51] was wiped out [24:52] in a single package [24:52] on that truck. [24:53] Also, other victims [24:53] are reported losing [24:54] serialized one-of-one [24:55] autographs and vintage grails. [24:57] And it's left collectors [24:58] wondering how a fortune [24:59] in high-value cards [25:00] was sitting unguarded [25:01] in a parking lot. [25:02] And while PSA [25:02] confirmed the break-in, [25:03] they quickly pointed out [25:04] that the truck [25:04] was a third-party carrier vehicle. [25:06] So the items [25:06] were technically [25:07] no longer [25:07] in their physical possession. [25:09] And while you had PSA [25:09] promising to reimburse victims [25:11] based on fair market value [25:12] up to the insured limits [25:13] and deactivated [25:14] those certification numbers [25:15] to stop resales, [25:16] collectors are slamming [25:17] this response as lackluster. [25:18] Many arguing that cash [25:19] doesn't actually replace [25:20] irreplaceable historical cards. [25:22] In part because [25:23] in the collectible space, [25:24] it's not uncommon [25:24] for cards to literally [25:25] be the only one out there, [25:27] like irreplaceable. [25:28] And so there's a belief [25:28] that even if it was stolen [25:29] from a FedEx truck, [25:30] PSA should have had [25:31] better transport [25:32] or security for the facility. [25:33] And some saying [25:33] at this price point, [25:34] it's shocking [25:35] they don't have [25:35] armored transports. [25:36] Now making matters worse [25:37] is that PSA [25:37] is allegedly not honoring [25:39] the value of stolen cards. [25:40] For some customers claim [25:41] that PSA offered [25:41] to refund the fees [25:42] to grade cards, [25:43] which are already obscene, [25:45] and insured market values. [25:46] So in one email, [25:47] they offered around 4,500 bucks, [25:48] but the poster claims [25:49] that the number [25:50] covers the fees alone [25:51] and not the value [25:51] of the cards on top of it. [25:53] The key thing here [25:53] is that the thefts [25:54] in this space, [25:55] they're becoming [25:55] more and more common [25:56] as the value of collectibles [25:57] has been skyrocketing. [25:58] With that, [25:59] PSA is investing [25:59] hundreds of millions of dollars [26:01] into new facilities [26:01] and they're hardly [26:02] the only player in that space. [26:03] And on a more local level, [26:04] it's increasingly common [26:05] for vendors [26:05] and collectors alike [26:06] to go around armed [26:07] because robberies [26:08] at card show parking lots, [26:09] they're increasing. [26:10] Getting followed home, [26:11] it's becoming more [26:11] and more common [26:12] and now we're getting [26:12] heists on delivery trucks. [26:14] And then also in the news, [26:15] you've got this massive [26:16] legal and culture war [26:17] that's going on right now [26:18] between Japanese audiences [26:19] and the rest of the world, [26:20] all because of a fan-made mod [26:21] of Tekken 6. [26:22] Because while the game [26:23] has been unavailable [26:24] on storefronts for years, [26:25] it still has a cult following. [26:26] And so a fan updated it [26:27] with modern online capabilities [26:28] for the community. [26:29] And then things blew up [26:30] with one of Japan's [26:31] biggest pro fighting game players [26:32] going viral after writing. [26:33] The pirated version [26:34] of Tekken 6? [26:35] That thing crosses the line [26:36] way too much [26:36] in saying that he's horrified [26:38] that no one overseas [26:38] is raising negative voices about it. [26:40] And in general, [26:40] there's a very real sentiment [26:41] that people are breaking a law, [26:43] they need to be punished [26:43] and that's that. [26:44] But then the other side [26:45] of the argument [26:45] has essentially boiled down [26:46] to let us buy the game. [26:48] Like it's just not available to buy, [26:49] otherwise people say they would. [26:50] So you've got some arguing [26:51] it's not really piracy [26:52] if the company isn't [26:53] actually losing money. [26:54] But then the counter argument [26:54] you saw play out [26:55] was that playing old games [26:56] is bad because it means [26:57] you won't buy new games [26:58] and that cuts into profits [27:00] so it is still stealing [27:01] from the company. [27:02] And in general, [27:03] there's an ocean of difference [27:04] in world perspectives, [27:05] especially when it comes [27:06] to what is legal or not. [27:07] Japanese fans in the debate, [27:08] they essentially argue [27:09] that this broke [27:10] Japanese copyright law. [27:11] And the law is the law, [27:12] so too bad, stop stealing. [27:13] But you've had others [27:13] pushing back that something [27:14] being the law [27:15] doesn't make it morally right. [27:16] Not to mention that copyright law [27:17] in places like the US [27:18] are very different from Japan [27:19] and that these mods [27:20] usually don't break copyright laws. [27:22] You've got the underlying debate [27:22] still there. [27:23] Is preserving and distributing [27:24] a no longer publicly available game [27:26] really theft? [27:27] And then your final bit of news today [27:28] starts with a question. [27:29] Did this MAGA influencer [27:29] really get kicked out [27:30] of a Ken Paxton rally [27:31] for being black? [27:32] Because that's what you've got [27:33] a lot of people saying [27:33] after Thelma Louise [27:34] posted this video. [27:35] I was just asked [27:36] to leave this event [27:37] and I did nothing wrong. [27:41] I was told that [27:42] Ken Paxton's campaign manager [27:44] didn't want me here. [27:45] And I have done nothing [27:47] but support everyone [27:48] on the Republican side. [27:50] And this is how I get treated? [27:52] So Louise has over [27:53] 200,000 followers [27:54] and she makes content [27:54] from the perspective [27:55] of a conservative black woman. [27:56] You know, they're saying [27:57] that she drove two hours [27:58] to that rally. [27:58] She started filming the content [28:00] the moment she got there [28:00] and she seemed genuinely excited [28:01] to show her support. [28:02] It looks like things [28:03] had barely even gotten started [28:04] before she was on her way out. [28:05] And there's no one [28:06] that I can talk to about this? [28:07] Oh, sorry. [28:08] No, ma'am. [28:08] Oh my gosh. [28:10] I cannot believe this. [28:12] Someone just came up to me [28:14] and said that [28:15] Ken Paxton's campaign manager [28:18] wanted me to leave. [28:20] I am just... [28:23] My mouth is wide open right now. [28:27] I cannot believe this. [28:28] I really can't believe this right now. [28:30] And while you had Thelma [28:30] seeming to be genuinely surprised, [28:32] you had a lot of people saying, [28:33] why'd you expect anything different? [28:34] People commenting [28:35] being MAGA while black, [28:36] chapter 293. [28:37] And others joking conservative whites, [28:39] excluding black people. [28:40] I've never heard of such a thing. [28:41] But you had Louise [28:41] basically brushing those comments off. [28:43] Was I the only black woman [28:44] in the building? [28:46] Absolutely I was. [28:49] Have I also been [28:50] a Ken Paxton supporter? [28:53] Absolutely. [28:53] And Thelma, [28:54] she switched over [28:54] to the Republican Party [28:55] two years ago, [28:56] supporting Trump [28:57] and his candidates ever since, [28:58] which is also why [28:58] she was so shocked by this. [28:59] But then with that, [29:00] apparently she was later told [29:01] that Paxton's team mistook her [29:02] for a paid agitator [29:03] from James Tallerico's camp. [29:04] Though there, [29:05] she said she doesn't know [29:06] what to believe. [29:06] And she's also claiming [29:07] that she'll be talking to Paxton [29:08] directly about all this soon. [29:09] Apparently there, [29:10] she's looking for a public apology. [29:11] But then even with that, [29:12] she is still doubling down [29:13] on her support. [29:14] I am in no way [29:15] leaving my party [29:17] and I plan on [29:18] completely voting red. [29:21] But then my friends, [29:21] you beautiful bastards, [29:22] is the end [29:23] of your Tuesday show. [29:24] Thank you for watching, [29:25] liking, [29:25] being a part of these [29:26] daily dives into the news. [29:27] If you want more to watch, [29:28] I got you covered right here. [29:29] But no matter what you do, [29:30] let me just say, [29:30] I love your faces [29:31] and I'll see you [29:32] right back here tomorrow.
