[0:00] glorious freedom and independence. [0:03] Two and a half centuries after the cause of liberty found its home on this continent, [0:10] I can report to you with pride that America is back and our country is stronger today [0:18] than ever before. [0:22] Our economy is the envy of the world. [0:25] Our military is the most powerful on earth. [0:28] Our technology is second to none and we are leading in virtually everything. [0:33] Our energy is fueling the planet. [0:36] America is rising, our nation is growing, our power is expanding, our country is doing [0:41] better than ever before and our future is very, very bright. [0:47] Since I took office we have created more than one million new private sector jobs and more [0:53] Americans are working today by far than ever before. [0:59] Last week it was announced that the poverty rate has reached its lowest level in American [1:05] history. [1:06] We lifted 1.5 million Americans out of poverty last year alone, another record. [1:13] The African American and Hispanic American poverty rates are at all time lows. [1:20] Still household incomes for Americans have soared to the highest level in history, 87,000 on average, [1:29] surpassing the prior record that I set in my first term. [1:34] From day one my administration has worked to remove every single unnecessary regulation and [1:39] obstacle to doing business in America. [1:43] We passed the largest tax cuts in American history and as a result more money is being [1:48] invested in the United States right now than has ever been invested in any nation anywhere [1:55] in the world. [1:56] U.S. stock markets have set 80 all-time records and that's just in the last 12 months. [2:05] We've secured commitments for $21 trillion in new investments from all over the planet compared [2:12] to less than $1 trillion in four years in the previous administration. [2:18] Two years ago our country was dead and now we have the hottest country anywhere in the world. [2:25] Before I took office we had the worst and most dangerous border on earth and now we have the [2:30] most secure border in American history. [2:32] Nobody comes in unless they're invited, unless they have permission. [2:38] In the past 16 months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted to the United States and that's [2:44] done by some very sophisticated people. [2:47] It's not done by the Trump administration, zero. [2:50] As a result, last year we achieved the largest drop in violent crime ever recorded. [2:57] The murder rate has plummeted to its lowest level in 125 years. [3:02] Since the year 1900, I sent our crime busters into Memphis, Tennessee and New Orleans, Louisiana [3:10] and crime in each place went down over 80 percent and it will go down still further. [3:15] More importantly, when I arrived on January 20th of last year in Washington, D.C. [3:22] It was riddled with crime and now crime is down 87 percent. [3:28] And we're going for 100. [3:30] If you take a look, and I guess a lot of you have been there, tourism is thriving. [3:37] Restaurants are bustling. [3:38] And people are proud of our nation's capital. [3:41] They're proud like never before. [3:43] We've invested more money in the United States military in the past 12 months than ever before. [3:49] And this term, it'll be $1.5 trillion. [3:54] We inherited a dark age of America from the previous administration and we turned it into [3:59] the golden age of America. [4:02] The entire world is being lifted by the wealth, strength, spirit and momentum of a newly energized [4:11] and a very powerful United States of America. [4:15] And just as we moved quickly to address problems we inherited at home, we have acted with decisiveness [4:22] and speed to reshape the world stage and solve problems that have plagued us for far too [4:28] long. [4:30] Every leader in this room, and your great leaders, many great leaders, I know all of [4:34] you very well, but they know that given only a short time to make this world better, safer [4:41] and more prosperous for our children, for the people on earth, we have to take advantage [4:46] of it. [4:47] As president of the most extraordinary nation in history, I have no interest in leaving [4:52] dangers to grow for another day. [4:55] I do not believe in letting problems fester. [4:58] They only become harder to solve. [5:01] So while others have talked, I have acted. [5:05] While others have spoken of peace, I have made peace. [5:09] While others have ignored threats, I have confronted them. [5:14] While others have talked of courage, America has shown it. [5:19] While others have promised strength, I have used it to make America the most powerful country [5:24] in the world. [5:26] Working with many nations in this room, we are solving decades of intractable challenges, [5:33] and we are settling years of unfinished business, and we're doing it well. [5:38] There is no better example of a danger that was allowed to gather strength at the world's [5:42] peril than the number one sponsor of terror, the Islamic Republic of Iran. [5:51] For 51 years, the fanatical Iranian regime has ruled by bloodshed and mass murder, spreading [5:59] death and carnage and chaos across the entire Middle East and beyond. [6:06] They were the bully of the Middle East, but they are the bully no more. [6:09] From the first day I entered the political arena, I have been unwavering. [6:13] I will never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. [6:19] Upon taking office last year, I immediately opened negotiations with Iran and offered them [6:24] full economic cooperation in exchange for ending their nuclear program and support for [6:30] terror, but they refused. [6:32] They absolutely refused. [6:34] That was a big mistake. [6:36] Then in Operation Midnight Hammer, the U.S. military obliterated their nuclear program [6:41] beneath mountains of rubble, and again I urged Iran to make a deal, and again they refused. [6:49] The regime continued building a vast missile and drone stockpile that threatened the security [6:54] of every American service member in the region and everyone else in the region. [6:59] They also made a missile that was capable of hitting Europe, and they were very proud [7:04] of it. [7:05] I hope the Europeans realized that. [7:08] Europeans' goal was to complete their mad dash to a nuclear bomb from behind this conventional [7:16] ballistic missile shield. [7:18] If they had succeeded, that wicked regime would have been free to spread terror and death forever, [7:24] knowing that any attempt to stop them would face an arsenal of nuclear annihilation. [7:31] In America, we just marked the 25th anniversary of the worst terror attack in history, September [7:36] 11th, which killed 3,000 people. [7:40] Just a few miles from here, it was an unbelievably terrible time. [7:46] In two weeks, we will mark the third anniversary of the October 7th attack in Israel, where terrorists [7:52] funded by Iran tortured, mutilated, and killed 1,200 very innocent civilians, including dozens [8:00] of Americans and many babies, babies, little, tiny, beautiful babies. [8:07] Iran's supreme leader celebrated that massacre and called it a service to humanity. [8:13] The same regime slaughtered over 72,000 of its citizens this year. [8:18] Recently, 10,000 were killed for protesting. [8:22] Just imagine such a vile regime were ever empowered to carry out large-scale terror attacks from [8:29] behind a nuclear shield. [8:32] This was the reality we had to confront, a reality that far too many preferred to ignore. [8:39] They all ignored it. [8:40] Many presidents and many others just wanted to ignore it. [8:43] They were unwilling to do anything about it, but they knew the problem. [8:48] After giving Iran every chance for a deal, I took action to ensure that neither the United [8:53] States nor any nation at all would ever have to face such a nightmare, such a catastrophic [8:59] problem. [9:02] As a result of Operation Epic Fury, all 159 ships of their navy are now lying at the bottom [9:09] of the sea. [9:11] Likewise, their air force is gone. [9:13] Their radar is gone. [9:15] Their anti-aircraft equipment is gone. [9:18] Their missiles and drone manufacturing capacity is almost gone. [9:23] Their economy is gone. [9:24] The only thing that isn't gone is inflation, which is destroying their country and is now [9:30] well over 300 percent. [9:34] Yet even after we agreed to a ceasefire for nuclear discussions, Iran promptly violated it [9:40] with brazen acts of terrorism against civilian ships from other countries. [9:45] I want to thank the UN Security Council for voting overwhelmingly to pass a resolution condemning Iran's [9:53] despicable terrorist attacks on commercial shipping. [9:57] Thank you very much. [10:00] That resolution, I'm pleased to say, received more co-sponsors from UN member nations than [10:06] any Security Council resolution in history. [10:10] That's something. [10:11] Now we must be equally united in maintaining pressure. [10:15] The United States Navy has recently escorted more than one billion barrels of oil out of [10:20] the Strait of Hormuz. [10:23] And more oil is flowing than at any point since the start of the war. [10:27] We're taking 22, 25, 30, 32, and 37 ships out, respectively, every single day, every single night. [10:38] But I have a big decision to make. [10:41] Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than [10:49] it ever was before? [10:51] Maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world? [10:56] Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to [11:03] kill and destroy people and countries again? [11:07] Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations? [11:15] But I believe we'll make a deal right after the election, because it doesn't make sense [11:22] for them not to. [11:23] They're waiting to see how I do in the midterm election. [11:27] What they don't realize is that I'm not running. [11:30] I did that already and won in a landslide. [11:34] We won in a giant landslide. [11:36] And I'll be here for two and a half years. [11:39] The Republican Party is running, and I'll be helping them. [11:43] But I am not running. [11:44] I gave absolutely no credence and will not give credence to the election when it comes to Iran. [11:53] It doesn't even enter my mind. [11:55] The only thing that does is that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. [12:02] The cowards and traitors would love to say the United States is low on munitions. [12:17] But that's not true. [12:18] We have more munitions than we could ever possibly even think of using, and we're building them [12:25] at levels that we have never done before. [12:28] We are adding to our stockpiles faster than we have ever been able to do before. [12:35] Top of the line stuff. [12:37] In addition, in the very near future, massive munition plants will be opening. [12:43] There are 18 of them being built by the greatest defense companies in the world right now, 18 [12:49] under construction. [12:51] Some of them very quickly will be completed. [12:53] They're almost there. [12:55] And that rapid construction will be leading to very rapid deployment of missiles of every [13:02] type and ammunition of every type. [13:04] And we'll be able to supply our allies at a much faster rate than we're doing right now. [13:10] I call on all nations to join us in enforcing the complete economic isolation of Iran until [13:17] they stop their attacks on commercial shipping, relinquish their nuclear ambitions, and cease [13:23] their support of terror. [13:27] The terrorist regime is behaving badly. [13:31] Not because they are strong and confident, but because they are weak and desperate. [13:38] If we stand united, we will soon see a world free of the last 51-year menace of Iranian terror. [13:46] And oil prices will come plummeting down even lower than they were at the start of the conflict. [13:52] And they were very low. [13:53] In the United States, they were really low. [13:57] With courage and resolve, anything is possible. [14:00] Big changes can happen, and happen fast. [14:03] One year ago, when I addressed the great leaders in this hall, the war in Gaza was still raging [14:09] brutally. [14:11] The hostages were still deep in Hamas tunnels, and there was no end in sight. [14:16] It was never going to be resolved. [14:19] But here on the sidelines of the General Assembly, we took the first steps. [14:23] It changed everything. [14:25] A few weeks later, we ended the war in Gaza, saving untold thousands of lives. [14:32] We also brought home all remaining hostages, both living and dead, every single one of [14:39] them. [14:40] Thank you. [14:45] Thank you. [14:46] Everyone thought it was a miracle that we were able to do so, and people celebrated in [14:50] the streets. [14:51] I want to express my gratitude to the United Nations Security Council for their unanimous [14:57] endorsement of our 20-point Gaza peace plan, and for officially approving the Board of Peace. [15:04] It's going to be a very significant group of people. [15:08] Nearly 30 countries have joined the board, which I am honored to chair. [15:13] And we're thankful to many of those member nations for contributing billions and billions [15:18] of dollars to relief, and it goes right to the rebuilding and relief of Morocco, Bahrain. [15:26] These are the countries that gave Qatar, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, [15:34] and many more. [15:35] That money goes right to the source, right where they need it, and they desperately need it. [15:41] And those countries have been very generous, and others also are stepping up at numbers that [15:47] nobody would even believe because they want to see people live. [15:51] They want to see the humanitarian thing happen properly. [15:55] They've been fantastic. [15:57] I also want to thank those who have committed troops, police, and training to help stabilize [16:02] Gaza, including Indonesia, Morocco, Albania, Kosovo, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Jordan, and more. [16:14] Since I took office, it has been my great honor to settle eight wars. [16:19] And in so doing, become friendly with the leaders of many of those countries. [16:24] It was a great honor to do it. [16:26] Numerous of these wars have gone on for many years and even decades. [16:31] The reason I was able to make these settlements was the use of my relationships, very special [16:38] relationships to this day, very, very special, trade, the use of tariffs and the threat of [16:44] tariffs, and various other reasons depending on the country. [16:49] Among them, terms of settlement, Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Democratic [17:00] Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, Pakistan and India, Armenia and Azerbaijan. [17:10] And of course, the war in Gaza, which, as I stated previously, includes the return of [17:15] all hostages, both living and dead. [17:19] Almost every one of these countries wrote me a letter of thank you. [17:23] The Prime Minister of Pakistan, terrific man, said that Donald Trump was responsible for [17:29] saving 30 million lives and probably many more than that. [17:34] The President of Azerbaijan said President Trump in six months did a miracle. [17:39] It was an absolute miracle that nobody thought could be done. [17:43] The Prime Minister of Armenia said this breakthrough would simply not have been possible without [17:49] President Trump's personal engagement and his resolute commitment to peace. [17:54] The President of Cambodia stated President Trump's extraordinary statesmanship, marked by [17:59] his commitment to resolving conflicts and preventing catastrophic wars through visionary, innovative [18:07] diplomacy, was most recently demonstrated in his decisive role in brokering an immediate [18:13] and unconditional ceasefire and peace. [18:17] This timely intervention, which averted a potentially devastating conflict, was vital in preventing a great [18:24] loss of loss of lives and paved the way towards the restoration of peace. [18:30] The President of Rwanda said when President Trump saw the opportunity to contribute to peace, [18:35] he immediately took it. [18:37] This conflict has lasted for 32 years. [18:41] Millions and millions of people have died. [18:45] We got it settled. [18:47] We've seen countless mediations and efforts, but none has succeeded in resolving the underlying [18:53] issues. [18:54] President Donald Trump issued a new and effective statement that really has brought great peace [19:03] and space through really a breakthrough that we thought was impossible. [19:10] We're working very closely with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, and we will get that [19:15] one done. [19:16] It's going to happen, I think, more quickly than people understand. [19:20] They've had it. [19:24] 25,000 young people, mostly soldiers a month, are dying. [19:28] 25,000 a month, and I look at those battlefield pictures and I really don't want to see them [19:33] anymore. [19:34] It's so horrible to see. [19:35] 25,000 a month, both sides. [19:39] In addition, the United States and Iran will definitely get it done. [19:43] We will get it done. [19:44] One way or the other, it's going to be done. [19:45] It's going to be done fast. [19:47] A lot has happened since we last gathered here one year ago. [19:52] In January, at my direction, the United States military conducted a massive military operation [19:59] penetrating deep into the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, descended on a heavily defended and [20:07] fortified military base, one that was supposed to be flawless against attack, and arrested [20:16] the outlaw dictator, real criminal, Nicolas Maduro. [20:22] Since that day, hundreds of Venezuelan political prisoners have been freed. [20:26] They've let them out of jails. [20:28] And we're working closely with the leaders of Venezuela to forge a much better future for [20:32] the Venezuelan people. [20:35] Last month, we signed the largest oil deal in history, covering 65 billion barrels of [20:42] oil, which will benefit both Venezuela and the United States enormously and help drive [20:47] down the cost of energy all over the world. [20:49] And that is starting to perk right now. [20:53] It's coming out. [20:54] The biggest oil companies in the world are going in. [20:57] And the numbers are absolutely incredible. [21:01] When you add the United States and Venezuela together, we have more than 60 percent of the [21:05] oil in the world. [21:07] So it's perhaps the biggest deal. [21:11] It was a war. [21:12] But it's perhaps the biggest deal ever made. [21:15] To the victor belong the spoils. [21:19] You've all heard that. [21:20] Our actions in Venezuela are proof that the United States will no longer permit threats to [21:25] America to gain a foothold anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. [21:30] And if necessary, we will use our unmatched military might to secure the vital national interests [21:38] of the United States. [21:39] As you know, Venezuela had the finest equipment in the world from other countries. [21:43] And guess what? [21:44] It didn't work. [21:45] It didn't even come close to working. [21:47] For decades, other administrations allowed much of this region to be dominated by vicious [21:52] gangs and bloodthirsty drug cartels, destabilized by uncontrolled migration and infiltrated by [22:00] hostile foreign adversaries, foreign, sick, demented adversaries. [22:09] But not anymore. [22:10] We are reasserting American power, including American military power, where necessary. [22:17] In our region and around the world to create a safer future for all of us. [22:23] It's happening, and it's happening quickly. [22:25] Upon taking office, I designated the drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. [22:33] And unleashed the United States Armed Forces to eliminate them. [22:38] The cartels are the ISIS of the Western Hemisphere. [22:43] Not good people. [22:45] They're enemies at war with civilization, using murder, rape, torture, and extortion as instruments [22:52] of terror. [22:54] Like ISIS, they should be killed, exiled, or detained as enemy combatants without the possibility [23:00] of release, which is what we're doing. [23:02] To that end, the United States has carried out dozens of strikes on cartel drug boats, [23:07] destroying 97 percent of the drugs coming into the ocean and sea. [23:15] You've seen it. [23:16] They disappear very quickly, and we're down 90 percent. [23:20] They're down 97 percent. [23:22] Nobody thought that was possible. [23:24] It was a big source of delivery. [23:27] And three months ago, we terminated the leader of the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua. [23:33] Mexico is the epicenter of the cartel violence, unfortunately. [23:37] It's unacceptable for the United States to share a 2,000-mile border with a territory controlled [23:44] by enemy cartels. [23:46] So Mexico must reclaim control of its soil from the enemies of humanity. [23:51] My administration is also seeking a fundamental change in the situation in Cuba, where the [23:57] communist regime is under great pressure, the biggest pressure they've ever been under. [24:03] It's an absolutely failed state. [24:07] It's failing like never before, and it will fall. [24:11] Marco Rubio is handling a negotiation. [24:13] He's deep into negotiations with Cuba. [24:16] Let's see what happens. [24:17] We'll not allow a haven for foreign adversaries to threaten America on our own doorstep. [24:24] It's right at our doorstep. [24:26] The Cuban regime has also spent decades coordinating with the left-wing radicals and communist networks [24:33] here in the United States. [24:35] As our State Department has detailed, they've cultivated ties to subversive and radical groups [24:41] such as the Communist Party USA, Antifa, and the Democrat Socialists of America. [24:49] Freedom will never be coming to America, but freedom will be coming to Cuba, and safety and security [24:55] will be coming to Mexico. [24:57] I'm very proud to tell you we have a very good relationship with the Mexican government. [25:02] We've made great strides, very great strides with Mexico. [25:05] They don't want the cartels either. [25:08] And when that day comes, this entire region will be a better, safer, and more beautiful place [25:14] in which to live and thrive. [25:16] As I announced just days ago, the United States has also reached an unprecedented agreement regarding [25:23] the northern frontier of North America, the large and strategically vital piece of land [25:30] known as Greenland. [25:32] This agreement made with the Kingdom of Denmark, an incredible, beautiful country, and the Greenland [25:39] people itself gives the United States permanent control over security and all other needs on [25:44] that territory. [25:46] We will have the complete ability to do what is necessary to defend the American continent [25:52] and also Europe and other places. [25:55] No U.S. adversary will ever be permitted to establish a military presence in Greenland [26:01] anymore or make sensitive investments there without our express written approval. [26:06] We will immediately begin the process of developing a large military presence in the appropriate [26:13] locations. [26:14] We will be building two very major military bases. [26:19] This agreement will be signed later today and I look forward to working with the wonderful [26:25] people of Denmark and Greenland. [26:27] It's been a great experience, amazing experience, and we've really formed a bond in doing it. [26:34] By expanding America's footprint in the Arctic and North Atlantic, this deal also protects Europe [26:40] in addition to America and greatly protects them. [26:44] It also very much enhances NATO with who has a great leader. [26:49] And Mark, I know you're in the audience and you are indeed a great leader, Mark Ruta, which is now growing stronger than ever before. [26:59] More than ever before, NATO is doing things that nobody thought they would be able to do, including raising their number to 5% from 2%, a number that's a protection that's going to be much greater protection for them. [27:13] We continue to seek and end the disastrous war between Russia and Ukraine, which is killing, as I said, thousands and thousands of people every month. [27:24] Last week, in honor of Senator Lindsey Graham, I signed a powerful new law passed by Congress providing me with enormous new tariff authorities, and if necessary, I will have to use them. [27:35] It's time to stop the killing. [27:37] I also want to recognize the extraordinary work of our great First Lady, who has secured the safe return of many displaced Ukrainian and Russian children back home to their families, so many. [27:50] Thank you very much, First Lady. [27:52] Thank you very much. [27:55] Where is our First Lady? [27:57] Where is she? [27:58] She's around here someplace. [28:00] Can you imagine I can't see the First Lady? [28:04] Thank you very much, First Lady. [28:07] Great job. [28:08] She worked so hard on it. [28:09] This year, she also became the only First Lady in history to preside over a meeting of the UN Security Council, and she did it very well. [28:19] And today, she's hosting a gathering of Fostering the Future Together, which has nearly 60 members to help improve the lives of young people all over the world. [28:29] So, Melania, thank you very much. [28:31] Great job. [28:32] Great job you're doing. [28:33] Thank you. [28:34] Thank you. [28:35] Thank you very much. [28:36] Thank you. [28:37] Thank you so much. [28:38] worked with many countries in this room to implement the most sweeping U.N. [28:43] reforms in history. We cut the U.N. budget for the first time ever, slashing [28:49] it by 15 percent in 2026 and eliminating more than 4,000 positions [28:54] from the U.N. bureaucracy. The United Nations has great, great potential. I've [28:59] said that for many years, but it must stop imposing the far-left agenda of [29:04] globalists, bureaucrats who nobody ever elected. Last year, my administration was [29:10] forced to intervene to stop an obscure U.N. body, the International Maritime [29:16] Organization, from secretly establishing a first-ever global carbon tax, a very [29:23] expensive tax, to raise international shipping costs by 10 to 20 percent and [29:29] maybe more than that. There is no global government, and while I'm president, there [29:34] will be no global taxes. The United States is equally opposed to the out of [29:40] control. Thank you. Thank you very much. The United States is equally opposed to the [29:48] out-of-control institution known as the International Criminal Court. We will [29:54] never allow U.S. service members or anyone else to be investigated or given [29:59] show trials by an anti-American tribunal with no jurisdiction over us. They're an [30:04] evil group of people. I call on all nations that are members of the ICC to [30:10] officially resign from this rogue institution immediately. It is equally [30:15] unacceptable that with all the genuine atrocities in the world, the U.N.'s top [30:20] human rights officials spend their time criticizing the United States for [30:24] protecting our children from transgender mutilization and transgender [30:30] insanity and enforcing our immigration laws. What they do is unbelievable, what [30:38] they do. It's transgender mutilization of our children. The craven hypocrites of [30:45] Human Rights Council have little to say about the persecution of Christians. I mean, [30:51] Christians are being persecuted all over the world. It's not even believable. I never [30:55] thought I'd say it. But it's been happening for a long time. So this is [31:00] persecution of Christians who are the crimes of the world's most repressive [31:04] regimes. Yet they want America to open up our borders to gangs and criminals from [31:09] world's most dangerous places. They want the worst people to come in from the [31:15] worst places on earth, and we don't do it anymore. We did do it, but we don't do that [31:20] anymore. It is deeply ironic that the United Nations has an entire institution, the UNESCO [31:28] group of people and countries devoted to protecting cultural heritage. Yet with [31:35] their ceaseless promotion of mass migration, these globalists are actively destroying the [31:39] greatest cultures and most extraordinary heritage in all of history. There is no human [31:46] right to illegal immigration, but there is a right to remain a sovereign nation, and we [31:52] want to remain a sovereign nation, and so should you. The United States also totally [31:58] rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control for the [32:03] artificial intelligence, being spoken of so much now, here and after officially [32:09] called super intelligence, changing the name, and that the use of the word artificial [32:16] makes intelligence fake. It makes it sound fake, and it is not fake. It's actually [32:21] amazing, but we have to be careful. In fact, it is exactly the opposite of what it [32:29] purports. From this point forward, all of United States documents and hopefully the [32:34] world's will be changed to use the much more accurate term super as opposed to [32:40] artificial. So it's super intelligence. In other words, welcome to the new world of [32:48] super intelligence dash SI. SI. Let's see if that goes. It sounds much better. It is [32:55] much better and it's much more accurate. Let's see if I have any power. Maybe I do and [33:00] maybe I don't. We're gonna find out pretty soon. Super intelligence, every major new [33:05] technology brings challenges, and super intelligence is no exception. Yet the very [33:12] same people who said we'll all be dead in 12 years because of global warming, a name [33:18] since reborn to climate change because the planet was cooling, not warming, and nobody [33:23] was dead. These are the same people that are now saying that AI is going to kill us [33:28] all that robots are going to attack us and that everything is going to be a total disaster. Same [33:33] group of people. This is the group that came up with the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax, the Ukraine, [33:43] Ukraine, Ukraine hoax, climate change, open borders. Whoever wins AI, you have to remember this, and now I [33:53] say whoever wins SI, whoever wins super intelligent wins. That's the group that wins. And we're leading [34:03] now over China by a lot and everyone else, and we're going to keep it that way. We're going to keep [34:10] it very, very straight and very strong. I'm not going to stifle growth of something that will be [34:16] bigger than the industrial revolution. Many say bigger than the industrial revolution or the internet [34:22] itself. And we will be very careful, and that's why we have a Department of Justice that we've [34:28] already used it having to do with this very subject and used it very powerfully. Everything worked out [34:34] very well and very quickly. And other law enforcement bodies that will reign things in if we have to do [34:40] that. But we will only encourage super intelligence. We're going to encourage it, not reign it in. We're [34:48] going to watch it closely through the Department of Justice. The United States leads the [34:53] world and super intelligence and will continue to do so safely and responsibly. Americans have never [35:00] been a nation that retreats from a frontier or shrinks from a challenge, no matter how great or how [35:07] daunting that challenge may be. Freedom was not a gift that Americans won easily after 250 years, [35:15] and it is not one that we will ever, ever, ever surrender. It was right here in New York City that [35:22] George Washington ordered. The Declaration of Independence read to his troops in 1776. As they [35:30] listened to those immortal words for the first time, the Patriots could see across the waters of New [35:36] York Harbor to a British invasion fleet, more than 100 ships strong, which had just arrived to crush the [35:43] cause of liberty. Thousands of soldiers getting off those ships. Nobody stood a chance. But we won, and we won [35:52] decisively. Those first Americans knew that it is not enough merely to believe in great principles. We [35:59] must also have the will and the courage and the strength to defend them. As we gather in this same [36:05] city two and a half centuries later to discuss the great events of our time, that is the challenge for [36:13] every nation in this room. If we go forward strong and united against the enemies of all humanity, [36:22] if we reject the voices who would have us give in to fear and doubt, if we refuse to shrink from our [36:29] duties to our people, then together through bold action we will make this world far safer and a far [36:38] better place. We will leave our nations far stronger. We will grow our economies far bigger and we will [36:47] not just speak of peace, prosperity and justice here at the United Nations. We will stand for them all over [36:55] the world. Together we will build a future for a people that is brighter, more hopeful and more [37:01] magnificent than ever before. Thank you. God bless the nations of the world and God bless America. [37:09] Thank you very much, everybody. We have just been watching President Trump giving his address to [37:28] world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly. The president is proclaiming America is back, [37:33] saying our economy is the envy of the world. The military is the most powerful on earth. Our technology [37:38] sector is leading in everything and our power is expanding. Now he contrasted that against Iran, [37:44] referring to the regime as the bully of the Middle East and saying he has a big decision to make, [37:49] make a deal with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than before or, quote, [37:54] do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and [37:59] destroy people and countries again. The president a little later got a round of applause as he renewed [38:05] his promise to ensure Iran never has a nuclear weapon. He also went on to address a number of other [38:10] topics including Venezuela, Greenland, Israel, Russia's war with Ukraine and artificial intelligence. [38:16] I want to bring in ABC's chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce for more on that. [38:20] Mary, the president covered a lot of ground here, but his big focus seemed to be defending the war in [38:25] Iran and what he's done to deal with the consequences of it. Yeah, the president here is making his case [38:29] and arguing that he had to launch this war to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. And he's [38:35] touting his military successes. And of course, this is a president who had promised not to drag the [38:40] U.S. and the world into additional and new conflict. So he's defending his decision to actually go ahead [38:46] and do just that. But we are now seven months into a war that he promised would last just weeks. [38:51] The war is now widening and there is no end in sight. And the president, you heard him predict that [38:56] this war will end after the elections, suggesting that Iran, you know, wants to see how he does in the [39:02] midterm, suggesting that they somehow want to keep this going to hurt the president and Republicans [39:06] politically as we see oil and gas prices continue to rise. But the question is then what? And again, [39:11] as you noted, he turned back to that familiar tactic, a dire threat, saying either Iran either [39:17] has to make a deal or he's going to annihilate them. And he insisted that they have to make a deal [39:22] because he said, quote, if it doesn't make sense for them not to. But there is no indication [39:27] that Iran wants to make a deal. Talks so far have gone nowhere. These dire threats have not [39:32] so far spurred Iran to somehow change tactics. And here at home, we know this war continues to be [39:37] deeply unpopular. The president is well aware of that. Oil and gas prices continue to rise. [39:42] And as we barrel toward the midterms day, and we are now seeing actually Republicans in competitive [39:47] races coming out and saying this war has to end so that costs will now come down. [39:51] And I want to bring in our chief foreign correspondent Ian Pannell in London. [39:55] Ian, the president's also said the U.S. is working very closely with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to [40:00] get a deal done soon on that front. How do you see his words today impacting [40:04] those negotiations and those over the conflicts in the Middle East? [40:07] Yeah, I mean, the truth is there was very little meat on the bone there. There were lots of [40:11] declarations, lots of hubris, but there wasn't much detail. I mean, the president indicated that there [40:17] could be news on this sooner than many people expected. Well, we've heard that before. And the reality [40:23] is there's been no slowdown in this conflict. The president had urged, for example, Ukraine to cease [40:30] firing at Russian oil facilities because of concerns over gas prices. He even went so far as [40:35] to declare that some kind of deal had been done. Well, the reality is there was no deal done. We saw the [40:40] largest ever Ukrainian strike on Russia over the weekend, including oil facilities. And Russia continues [40:48] to pound Ukrainian towns and cities on a nightly basis, indiscriminately attacking civilian areas, [40:55] as well as targeting its own energy infrastructure. So that is having an impact. And I think we've seen [41:01] some fundamental shifts throughout the Middle East because of the war launched by President Trump and [41:06] Prime Minister Netanyahu in Israel. We've seen Gulf allies, normally reliable Gulf allies, start to shift [41:13] away from the U.S. and look about other alternatives. And this speech comes on the heels of several AI [41:20] tech leaders calling for slowdown in AI development. Now the president's calling for artificial intelligence [41:25] to be called superintelligence and says whoever wins the race to develop it wins. Let's bring in [41:30] ABC's Elizabeth Shelsey in Washington on that note. Elizabeth, what did you make of the president's [41:34] message on AI or SI, as he calls it, and the economy in general? Yeah, Diane, the president wants to make [41:40] clear that artificial intelligence, he says, should not be slow down because the U.S., he says, is the [41:45] leader in this and they cannot risk falling behind. And that call for superintelligence, an acknowledgement [41:50] that there has been a lot of bad press around AI and the risk that it poses amid these warnings from [41:55] the people who are building the technology at the biggest AI companies. The president said he did [42:00] acknowledge that every major technology brings changes, but that the U.S. position is that they want to [42:06] encourage AI not rein it in. A stark rebuke from some of the calls we've heard from, for example, [42:11] OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who will be speaking to the U.N. tomorrow to call for some of those guardrails [42:17] in place. But some of this, Diane, is an acknowledgement that AI is powering the economy [42:21] at a time when they're facing higher prices otherwise with oil and gas. And let's go to our [42:25] chief global affairs correspondent, Martha Raditz. Martha, now that the speech is over, the president [42:30] has a number of meetings lined up today, including one with Ukraine's President Zelensky. What are you [42:34] watching for from those meetings? Well, certainly we've seen their history together, Zelensky and [42:39] Trump, and they have made peace with one another, Zelensky especially with Donald Trump, but he is [42:45] also looking for other places to help him out. This, the president clearly wants Ukraine to stop [42:51] targeting any sort of Russian oil facilities. And that circles back to what Elizabeth was just talking [42:57] about as well about oil prices. So that is something we are watching for. Overall, the president was a [43:03] much shorter speech than the president gave last year, that is for certain. And he wasn't as direct [43:09] with the United Nations and as critical as he was last year. But all of this does come back [43:17] to Iran. That is what the president's focus is right now. He wants to get that war stopped. [43:23] We have depleted a great deal of our missiles, Patriot missiles reduced by nearly two-thirds, [43:29] fads by a half. So that is something we watch in the future as well, Diane. [43:33] And our senior political correspondent, Rachel Scott, is live at the White House. And Rachel, [43:37] in many ways, the most high stakes meeting this week isn't happening at the UN. It's happening [43:41] there at the White House with China's President Xi. What are you watching for there? [43:44] That's exactly right, Diane. All eyes are on this meeting between President Trump and Chinese [43:48] President Xi. This is highly anticipated. It is high stakes. The president preparing to welcome him here [43:53] to Washington tomorrow. You heard the president there saying that UN allies should start imposing [44:00] some sort of economic isolation on Iran. This follows weeks of threats and warnings from the [44:05] Trump administration saying that there should be economic pressure on Iran from our allies all [44:10] across the world. But the big question hanging over all of this, does that extend to China? We know [44:16] that China is Iran's largest trading partner. And as of right now, the Trump administration has not [44:22] imposed any consequences on China for continuing this very close relationship that they do have [44:28] with Iran. There's big questions on whether or not this is going to come up. But the reality here, [44:32] when we're talking about the economy, we know so many Americans feeling this at home, [44:36] as the president continues to suggest that this war will not be over by the midterm elections, Diane. [44:40] And we will keep watching those important meetings and conversations happening at the UN General [44:45] Assembly today. Our coverage continues on ABC News Live and abcnews.com. We're going to return now [44:49] to your regular programming. David Muir will be here with the entire team for World News Tonight. [44:54] I'm Diane Macedo. Have a great rest of the day. Hi, I'm Diane Macedo. We have breaking news. [45:12] President Trump is defending the Iran war on the world stage. Just a few minutes ago, [45:16] the president delivered a high-stakes speech at the UN General Assembly in New York. [45:20] He made the case that the war is necessary to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.
