[00:00:00] Speaker 1: hello welcome back to the channel and this is a channel where we give you reviews don't do unboxings don't do playthroughs but we generally like to talk a lot of bollocks about tabletop gaming in general and in this video we're going to be talking about a very very small area control game we're going to be talking about pacts and in this game you will be placing cubes out onto a map you'll be trying to take control of different areas of i think it's like ireland well yeah it is ireland in the hope that you can generate enough victory points to win the game so in this video we're going to be giving you a very brief overview of the rules we'll tell you what we do like what we don't like then we'll come back and we'll tell you whether or not pacts is worth your time and bother today and in the future so remember if you know where see the subscribe to this channel hit the like button and all that youtube bullshit see you after this bollocks so pacts how do you play this game so packs is a two-player only area control game put the fabric map in the center of the table one player is going to be playing as the black player the other players can be players white color in this game they're called the sealy and unsealy you're going to get two round of factions you're going to choose one this faction will give you a special ability that is unique to you you'll place some cubes in default positions on the map then you'll place some point tiles out onto the respective places on the map right so this is a card driven area control game yeah you're going to get points for control in different regions on a board and there's three different ways to manipulate these cubes on a board obviously you're going to be playing cards yeah but you'll be able to play a card that lets you place cubes you'll be able to play a card that lets you move cubes and then there'll be an other category that lets you do other shit so you're going to have some special cards in your hand called court cards beginning of each round the first thing you're going to do is you're going to play one of these court cards and you'll keep it based down right don't have to do this if you don't want to but you probably should do really then the player that doesn't have the second token will draw four hacked cards and then they will divide these into two piles right one of the piles will have the second player token and one won't and then the other player will choose which pile to take right once you have done the i split you choose shit then the player without the second player token will then play some cards right you'll first reveal your court card and you'll completely affect on that and then you'll be able to choose all your other cards and then play them don't have to play them in full if there's options and shit and you don't have to play them at all if you don't want so if you choose to play some cubes you can put cubes out on board if you choose to move cubes and that allows you to move to different areas you see that a lot of cards have an icon on it and this refers to where you can place or move cubes to it's also the card that lets you play your ability and that allows you to play the ability of your faction right so at the end of the third round you will do some scoring whoever's got the most cubes in a region will score the amount of points that is next to that region and you'll do this again in the sixth round because at the end of the sixth round you'll score the game again and then the player with the most points at the end of the sixth round once you've done the scoring will be the winner of packs so do we like about packs so the first thing that we quite like about it is that it feels like it is an amalgamation of lots of other games that we played first thing that springs to mind is eight minute empire shares a lot of similarities without an eight minute empire doesn't take eight minutes by the way you're going to be choosing a card and this will allow you to manipulate stuff on the board and there's also that i split you choose from new york slice or whatever the fuck it was re-implemented and all what it was before as new york slice something to do with cakes or something like that or whatever so it's familiar but also alien at the same time for reasons that will become apparent and uh yeah if you add in the asymmetrical abilities like if you are the selkies this means that your permanent ability is that your points card may instead place for wild which means you can place them in any region you want and if you play your ability it says you can copy the effect of two other cards that you have this term right or if you decide to be a changeling most of you are anyway you social chameleon and this says when you go first you place a cube now onto the board and also you can replace any black cube with any white cube yeah so yeah the abilities are pretty good there's loads on one two three four five six seven eight and uh yeah eight abilities for a two-player game is pretty good it's the second thing that we really like about this game is that the components are pretty good ordinarily i'm not a big fan of these like fabric boards but for a game that is stuffed into a fucking matchbox if there'd been like a fold away board it would have been shared and it adds to that sort of rustic celtic feel you know it feels like you are touching cloth whenever you play this game yeah and um i don't mean that in an adverse way and i don't mean that in a catholic church type way even though this game is sort of irish in uh its nature but we're not going to talk about compensation or anything like that but yeah the components are pretty nice maybe it's a little bit drab but uh yeah i quite like the way that you can stuff everything in a tiny little box and uh it doesn't take up no shelf space does it so don't be like packs so the first thing that we don't like about this is that it's only two players yeah part of my heart and that's made a cold part of my heart wants this to be a four or five or even six player game there's no reason why this couldn't have been a bigger and incorporated more people but as it stands as a two player game doesn't quite tickle my testicles in a way that titillates me that much yeah because two player games aren't really something that i really like to play that often most of the time we're going to be playing four five six player games which means that this one is just going to be sat on a shelf looking at me in a wistful manner the second thing that we don't really like about this is that it looks like it was printed on i don't know like a daisy wheel printer or something yeah all right the box has got a magnetic thing shining shit but it's just green and white and not really a big fan of these like celtic games you know i mean like for me the theme for inish was boring even though ireland's just across the water i'm not really familiar with celtic folklore and all that shit and um yeah i didn't really know what the mythological creatures in it were if it had been like greek mythology i would have been pissing off a mountainside but as it stands the celtic theme yeah not really in my bag you know what i mean so to summarize is pact worth your time and bother today and in the future so we're gonna say maybe maybe not pax is a decent little area control game may borrow too heavily from other games to make it stand out amongst the pack it looks drab and for me the theme was unfamiliar and a little bit boring but the asymmetrical bitlies coupled with the i split you choose mechanic from new or slice makes it much more interesting than it deserves to be and if you like two player games and you are after a area control game that only takes a half hour to play then pact may well fill that hole so there you go that is pax remember if you're new here consider subscribing to this channel with the like button
