Packers' Jordan Love & HC Matt LaFleur reflect on statement win over Bears

[0:11] last year went with those guys what does today's mean what does today's win man that was a huge win [0:17] um you know just for where we're at in the season starting off uh that was definitely a much needed [0:22] win against a nfc north opponent um so yeah it was a huge win yeah man um you know i think j mike [0:46] did a great job making that catch um and you know it's one of those things that it is what it is [0:51] it's unfortunate got called back um but it's what we always talk about like how do you respond um [0:56] you know it's adversity you never know what's going to hit and uh to be able to go go get that [1:01] one to christian that huge play i thought he did an outstanding job making that catch but [1:05] um that's what it's all about right there i said i said ball don't lie yeah i think it's something [1:19] that uh we saw throughout the game that was working and we kept we kept doing it you know we kept our [1:23] foot on the gas right there um and i think really just guys were making plays you know and it was [1:28] going to be some contested plays nobody was just wide open but i think guys were making some some [1:33] great catches out there great plays um but i definitely i love it we kept our foot in the [1:37] gas matt was dialing it up and uh that's what it needs to look like right there yeah something [1:46] we've talked about throughout the course of season so far and i thought they did a great job um they [1:50] gave me a lot of time on a lot of those plays especially like you mentioned the one to christian [1:54] um like i had all day back there so um they did a great job you know i thought our run game has [2:00] been improving we've got some big runs going and uh we're playing complimentary ball right there [2:05] that's what it needs to look like we got to keep stacking stuff but i thought o-line did a great [2:08] job in pass bro yeah i think you know throughout the first couple weeks there's been a lot of stuff [2:26] we've talked about in every room not just o-line but a lot of stuff that we've talked about that we [2:29] just need to clean up and i think guys have been locked in focused on that and we've improved in a [2:35] lot of areas and you know like you said we got a couple new guys in there that that went in the [2:39] first couple weeks but um yeah i think we're just we're focused we're detailed on what we're doing [2:44] um you know there might be some times where the defense gets you but um i think those guys are [2:48] just doing a great job just trusting the rules um trusting their technique and just give me time [2:53] and then run game we're just we got to keep keep building on that but um it's improving yeah i felt [3:05] like uh i felt like we were rolling definitely um you know play after play drive after drive making big [3:11] plays and um you know it's it's definitely a good feeling when you're when you're having a lot of [3:15] explosive plays you're able to put up a lot of points um obviously defense played a huge part in [3:19] that getting us the ball back with all those turnovers keeping them at the end zone so [3:22] you know it's one of those things we talk about it's it's flow state you know it feels like you're [3:26] flowing out there and um just play after play we're making those and uh just felt good to be able to [3:32] do that at home man it's just it's stacking you got to just keep stacking stuff you know great great [3:41] win today but it's all about how we we talk about we get back to the film room continue to build on [3:45] this performance continue to build on the on the plays we did well cleaning up some of the stuff [3:49] we didn't do as well and just attacking it it's going to be a new new opponent next week new defense [3:54] so we just got to keep building on this but um it feels good when everybody's clicking and making [3:57] plays and um something we just got to keep it rolling feels great um you know like we mentioned [4:20] a win is a win we'll always take that we're never going to apologize for a win um but you know today [4:26] felt great you know to be able to dominate somebody at home nfc north opponent uh felt great and that's [4:31] all i got to say yeah it was one of those ones i mean it was third and third and really long right [4:45] there um you know trying to get a feel for what covers they're running one of those where they [4:49] kind of got everybody the sticks and i love the concept we had on and i was able to buy time the [4:54] o-line gave me great time right there by time and you know when i got out to christian um he was [4:59] really wide open right there um and obviously there was two dbs converging on but uh it's one of [5:04] those plays you just you throw it up to him he made a great job making that catch getting his toes [5:08] down in balance but um that's when it just comes to players making plays right there obviously it's [5:13] a tough situation uh especially after the the penalty we got called for so um i think we we came [5:18] back bounced back and responded right there 100 like you mentioned you went in a fashion like this [5:38] a dominant fashion uh the vibes are definitely great in the locker room um the confidence everything [5:43] uh definitely a win that we needed like you mentioned uh to start the season you know a little [5:47] bit rocky not consistent um and to have a dominant win like this today uh something that it feels [5:53] great but you know we just got to keep building on it but you know i guess nfc north opponent against [5:57] the bears needed this one watson and 60 are preposterous numbers obviously been really good [6:06] how good can these guys i mean that's i think the day they had today kind of just speaks and i think [6:14] we talked about it a little bit last week of how good the offense can be and that's just [6:18] it just shows right there those are two two guys who are dominant factors and [6:22] when we get flowing like this and they're making plays and we're able to you know take advantage of [6:26] what the defense is doing both those guys i mean they're capable of doing great things and uh i [6:31] think that's just a little bit of a show what what's possible but it just comes down to executing [6:35] you know we talk about every week you got to go out there and make plays and they they made those [6:39] plays for us today and uh we just got to keep building on it man it's amazing um to be able to watch [6:50] that performance and just see how they're attacking the ball how they're capitalized on the on the on the [6:54] interceptions ball in the ground we're coming away with it every time um it makes it a lot better [7:00] uh for offense obviously you know anytime you keep them out the end zone but just be able to give us [7:05] the ball back in great field position um you know it's it's amazing and that's just a testament to [7:10] the way they play the play style they're flying around and obviously we got to do a great job just [7:15] capitalizing when we get those opportunities but um man that's just a terrific performance by them [7:20] i mean for everybody we know what it is it's nfc north rivalry game um we talked about it they [7:43] knocked us out of the playoffs last year you know we moved on from that um they're a good team we're [7:47] a good team comes down to dominating at home and that's what we did um so you know we don't even [7:52] want to get into it with the back and forth but we know what it is and uh that's all that's all i [7:57] got to say with that but it's a dominant game for us today it's always finished the mindset for us [8:14] no matter what it is you know we went into halftime it was finished you know we got to go [8:19] we got a lead we got to take control of that lead we got to keep putting up points as offense defense [8:23] keep flying around keep getting us the ball back but it's all about finishing and like you mentioned [8:27] at the end of the game there get to the fourth quarter we're up a couple scores uh that's when [8:32] you know defense gets to really fly around you know they're going to be throwing it and i thought [8:35] they did an amazing job right there just finishing um but that's the mindset just finish i'm not [8:59] gonna lie i feel that every week you know i'm i'm very confident in the group we have and we've [9:04] mentioned before we haven't performed up to our standard um you know we haven't been playing [9:08] terrific on offense like you mentioned the the stats aren't aren't great but i'm always very confident [9:15] in the offense and what we can do and it just comes down to like i mentioned we got to execute on [9:19] sundays and today we did that so you can see this what it looks like when you when you play great [9:23] execute at a high level and so it's just about continue to stack that you know we still got to [9:27] improve on third downs we still got to improve the red zone the run game can keep getting better [9:31] um but it's one of those things we just keep our head down take it week by week and uh keep trying [9:36] to improve on the things we're not doing great and that's what guys did two more i thought he's [10:03] done some great things you know stepping up when his name's called and that's really all you can do [10:08] when when opportunity arises you got to take advantage i think he's done a great job um you know [10:12] it's tough too like you're not with that unit throughout camp throughout otas and you got to step into a role [10:18] and i thought he's done a great job especially in this week like you mentioned with kev i didn't [10:22] really know who was going to take that that starting job but um man glove i think he has the [10:26] right mindset you know i think uh there's always going to be stuff we can clean up but i just love [10:31] the mindset he brings the confidence he brings when he's out there um he's really an enforcer so [10:36] um i love having him out there and that was great i think something we talked about as well we [10:46] need to improve we need to improve the running game we need to get some rushing touchdowns [10:49] have two right there was huge marshawn i mean we talked about it throughout the week [10:53] you know running behind behind his pads you know there's always going to be somebody unblocked on [10:57] some runs and you got to be able to run somebody over and and that's what he did right there i [11:01] thought the other one was fantastic the way he was able to bounce that but um i thought he had a great [11:05] job um on both those touchdowns and like we mentioned it's just how can we improve and take it to the [11:10] next level last one definitely um i mean it's always a good feeling you take a hit you really don't [11:28] even know what's happening um especially at home you hear the crowd start going crazy it's it's just a [11:33] great feeling you know something good happened um but no i think you know that's another emphasis [11:38] point of emphasis we talked about was protecting me giving me some time back there and um you know [11:43] when the o-line does what they did today you know this is this is a result of that you know we put [11:47] up big big numbers in the passing game and have a great day but um yeah it's never fun taking hits [11:52] but it's one of those things as a quarterback you know what's coming you got to take the hit and [11:55] deliver a good throw um and you know we were able to do that tonight all right thank you guys [12:00] uh so i stand up here a little bittersweet right now um obviously really excited for our team and [12:06] and winning the game but just i just saw hargrave and it doesn't look good so um that kind of takes [12:13] the air out of the room a little bit when you lose such a just not only a great player but a great guy [12:19] key piece to this team um and it kind of puts a little bit of a cloud on the day no i mean i early [12:31] indications look like achilles well i mean did you just listen to what i had to say um it was yeah [12:45] it's great i'm excited for our team i'm excited for our guys but like anytime you see a player [12:50] uh in especially a meaningless point of the game get hurt it it just is deflating yeah it is what it [13:03] is it's just i mean it's football and you know we're not gonna sit up here and it's the next man up [13:09] and guys got to get ready to play and we expect them to come in and play at a high level i thought [13:14] i was really proud of our inside linebackers today i thought they did a really good job [13:18] isaiah mcduffie i knew he'd be ready to play hopper had a great game as well and um you know it falls [13:26] on the collective of of all 11 that are out there that's life in the national football league you just [13:51] got to keep your head down and keep swinging and that's what exactly what we're going to do you can't [13:56] allow uh the outside noise to mess with your brain mess with your head at all so you just keep [14:03] trying to do right by by your team by by the guys um and take it one day at a time we're always going [14:09] to be where our feet are and try to put our best effort in each and every day and um you know what [14:15] i'm so proud of just watching these guys because it's it's been a little rocky early on to start the [14:20] season and we haven't played a real complete football game until today but um our guys [14:27] approach it the right way in terms of just wanting to come in the building with great energy i mean [14:33] that that's where it starts every day is that you got to come in with the right mindset that [14:37] having great energy that is contagious for everybody gets you excited about going to work [14:44] the stuff that we do it's that's not always easy work but you got to put the work in and it's not a [14:51] like we're showing a little bit of improvement and i still think we got a ways to go [14:56] you mentioned the league game it's important to win every week it's a week-to-week league and we know [15:15] that and you know um certainly there's there's always i think it's more for for the fan base and [15:21] everything like i love the excitement around the rivalry and and all that and um certainly you i mean [15:28] it weighs in the back of your mind how last season ended a little bit and um but it's still about us [15:35] and what we do moving forward and how we come in and how we prepare and and the product that we put [15:40] out on the field oh we just took some shots we had some things that we saw on tape and then i i got to [15:50] give it up to our offensive staff i thought the communication was really good today um those guys [15:54] did a really good job of helping me out and and you know suggesting plays and um you know we we knew [16:01] going into this game i personally i thought we're gonna have to score a lot of points and um our defense [16:08] came ready to play we did a great job against the run against the best rushing offense in the [16:13] national football league so hats off to the defense i thought jg called an amazing game and those guys [16:19] went out there and executed so um but just going into the game like from a mentality standpoint we just [16:28] we wanted to be aggressive we knew we were going to have to score some points um and our guys were [16:32] making plays down the field could you possibly envision this from watson and gold desert well [16:39] we'll see you're only as good as your last game so they're pretty good this week we got to make sure [16:43] we run it back next week and and keep it moving so uh but i love those guys and and we've got a lot [16:50] of confidence in everybody in that room i thought j mike you know i i don't know what it looked like on [16:55] tv i thought i saw it live but um i thought he made a heck of a play and and they saw it differently [17:01] so and that's football but um all those guys bo melton going in there obviously losing sky early [17:08] was impactful because we got some of the packages where it's all designed with sky in the game and [17:15] then now all of a sudden he's not there and and then you know other guys got to fill in and um [17:21] fulfill that role i think it's a credit to the guys up front quite frankly i mean when you're when [17:33] you're getting hit repeatedly it's hard to play in this league it's hard to play quarterback it's [17:38] hard enough to play quarterback in this league um but when you have pockets like we were getting [17:42] and the guys were straining doing a great job up front um the only time they really got to us was [17:48] in that two minute drive um but i thought those guys are they're getting better we're getting better [17:54] up front and that makes all the difference in the world yeah i mean sure you that's all well you [18:05] haven't mine all the time but it's easier said than done um you know i was a little disappointed [18:10] with parts of the game uh if i'm being truthful uh just you know at the end of the half obviously and [18:17] then um you know we we've got to establish a better run attack i think there were moments where we ripped [18:24] off some big runs but um it's just got to be i would say a little bit more consistent to help us stay [18:31] and you know uh conflicting situations where you don't know if it's going to be a run or a pass [18:37] it's harder when you're sitting there in second and nine second and ten second eleven when everybody [18:42] in the stadium is probably thinking pass yeah i gotta i gotta go i'm not gonna speak on that until [18:53] uh i go back and watch it but um i thought from a protection standpoint it seemed pretty solid [18:59] um i gotta look at at the run game obviously and then um you know i thought glove did just [19:06] going back to last week and his performance in tampa um i thought you know he had he'd kind of earned [19:15] the right to continue to go out there and zeitler's he just got here so he's only had really one true [19:21] week of practice uh the previous week it was just individual um so he's had one solid week of practice [19:30] where he was getting some team reps so um but you know you know it's it's always a tough decision but [19:37] that's the decision we made yeah and that's how that's how it's got to be like uh those guys should [19:52] be confident they put in the work and um but we know this is a week-to-week league and you can't just [19:57] do it one time you got to do it consistently the best teams will do that they'll do it week in week [20:02] out no matter who they're playing um and that's got to be our standard i think it's been immense [20:18] like immense improvement in terms of just it allows us to call our offense and it's a hell of a lot [20:24] easier calling plays when when the guys are blocking for the quarterback up front um and then we're able [20:30] to rip off some runs i still think you know there's still areas of improvement that we need to continue [20:35] to work at but all in all i thought the i'm proud of the effort um and just the commitment to [20:41] improving from from all the guys up front talking about caleb yeah i mean caleb's an elite level [20:58] quarterback so obviously when you have an elite level quarterback it changes the complexion of every [21:03] game so um you know i would assume that he's he's getting close they told me he was ripping the ball [21:11] out here pretty good today and in pregame um but he's a really good quarterback [21:15] yeah i thought he was in a flow state for sure i mean his performance was was pretty spectacular [21:32] just continuing to call we were calling i mean there was one sequence where we called like three [21:38] deep shots in a row and he's putting the ball and play for our guys to make plays and our guys were [21:43] making plays so um yeah i thought collectively uh i was pretty proud of the guy's effort today [21:49] yeah i think anytime you you do that you're i mean i don't know too many teams that are going to lose [22:05] when they win the the takeaway battle five to zero so hats off to the defense they did a hell of a job [22:11] jg and his staff uh and then ultimately it's about our players their ability to go out and execute [22:16] and they did a really good job now yeah again i have a hard time with that um that that's a better [22:46] question for them like here's what i'll tell you i think we all are moving in the same direction and [22:52] we all got each other's backs players coaches coaches players players players and that's what [22:58] great teams do like that that is the essence of team is that you have each other's backs that you're [23:06] willing to stick together not point fingers in times of adversity and just keep moving forward [23:12] and and really try to be reflective of what i can do as an individual to be better for our team [23:18] and just keep bringing great positive energy and courage in one another and um i love that locker room [23:25] i love those guys i love our staff and we just gotta you know keep moving forward it was it was one [23:30] game it was a it was a good game today but it's one game and so we got to move on to the next game and [23:35] we know we're gonna have um a dog fight on our hands next sunday night um against a really good [23:41] football team thank you guys thanks guys
