[0:28] come back from a tournament and not have like regrets from like losing i think second uh first [0:34] let's talk about the tournament a little bit in the city uh obviously got to deal with jet lag when [0:38] you go to a tournament like this i know some of you guys handle it better than others how was it [0:42] this time around uh any strats or anything that you guys pulled out the bag to like try and adjust [0:47] accordingly um i just i somehow this is the best sleep schedule i've ever had going from like [0:54] outside of this fucking state i kind of slept anytime i was tired i slept and then at night [1:01] like i would sleep wake up at like four in the morning five in the morning stay up for a little [1:04] bit and then like sleep again but to me that's like way better than i've ever gone through because [1:10] back then like i'm over here staying up till fucking like 6 a.m sleeping for like three hours and [1:14] i didn't get my day started so for me i actually you're not good on a domestic fuck no [1:20] that's the second time he's done that one he loves that one but yeah my sleep schedule was good [1:29] somehow you guys were good too rest of you uh yeah for the most part i didn't get like i mean [1:37] yeah it's as good as it could be i feel like to be honest yeah mine was just a lot better than [1:44] birmingham birmingham i was not a fan of uh how like the first day went but uh i feel like i did a [1:50] good job of just like maybe just doing stuff with the team i mean we were going james we were going [1:54] out shopping bro we were just you know i should have went grabbing coffee going to shops we were [1:58] doing it all the paris stuff going to museums that were scaring the shit out of us but uh [2:02] you saw like shoes and ours saw some weird shit bro weird shit honestly that does help that we went [2:08] to paris and it was like a city that i've never been to and get to explore the city and it's pretty [2:12] cool good vibes besides the fucking heat this stage was and and i say worst because it wasn't like [2:19] we're comparing it to you guys having pretty perfect stages but it was the worst online stage [2:25] you guys have had leading into an event um what were the vibes kind of feeling like at the end of [2:29] the stage obviously you guys had a couple matches that you probably should have won what was that [2:33] like going into the tournament having a stage like that i mean online at this point i mean i don't know [2:40] i it's so for me it's just i know how good we are and i kind of just base it off that you know [2:46] whereas like the majority i mean every team is different like we've been a team for like at [2:51] this point almost you know two years so like i know what we're capable of and i don't really like [2:57] overthink anything even though we got what it was like three two we could have easily made losers so [3:02] i don't know i'm just like i'm the type of guy to like just trust the game and just [3:07] you know just believe yeah as long as we make winners and yeah that's kind of like the online [3:13] mindset as long as you make winners and obviously like your map pool your map pools are your biggest [3:17] you're gonna play everyone and winners anyway so it doesn't really matter yeah and also it's [3:22] better to just have like two lives i guess and this online format is literally god awful so it's [3:28] like it doesn't even really matter if you lose or win it's not like you has any effect on the [3:33] tournament really as long as you're again in the winner's bracket but um it's just one of those [3:38] things where we're in a situation where we're already qualified for champs um we were pretty much [3:43] qualified for winners with our first two matches that we won so it's like obviously it's still nice to [3:47] win just to like you know um just to see that you're still improving but it's not like you're [3:53] tweaking if you lose yeah you know like yeah it's just like you're just waiting for the tournament [3:58] because i mean we could go perfect online and lose a tournament no one gives a shit so um yeah so i won't [4:04] talk about it too much but a pretty like stressless path to winners finals for you guys this event uh but [4:10] at what point did you realize because you guys didn't play the gentlemates until sunday um but at what [4:17] point did you realize that you were going to be uh playing against the fans throughout the entire [4:22] tournament um they came out pretty hot for your guys's very first match um when did that kind of [4:28] sink in were you expecting it uh were they catch you guys off guard a little bit when we landed i was [4:33] like we are in the lines then that's what i was thinking but i couldn't wait for this i knew that it [4:38] was going to play out like this i'm glad it played out like this honestly i had no idea it was going to be [4:41] like that to be honest i thought there was going to be like not 50 50 but like 80 20 but this event [4:48] felt like 95 5. there was some like fans 98 too yeah no no before the grands there's like there's [4:56] like probably like 30 fans training let's go optic and i was like yeah it's probably like 50 50. i'm [5:01] like nah i did not say that yes you did i swear i swear to god no no no no no because i was like [5:07] what team are they going to go for and i was probably i was like well you guys are at 60 40. answer your question i mean [6:20] the first match whenever they're cheering boston i was like okay it's gonna be one of those events [6:25] yeah no when they started cheering tj like it was when it was like it was a home event for us i was [6:31] like oh yeah we're in the lines then then yeah they were cheering tj like it was like a texas event [6:37] for us they were they were cheering tj like he was simple when he was prime so we're like we have to [6:41] shut that shit down you guys made sunday convincingly for the fourth time this year uh with the last three [6:49] results prior to this event did you guys feel any extra pressure um waking up on sunday morning [6:55] being there again for the fourth time um and kind of knowing what was at stake nah nah the way i look [7:02] at it is like the only way to get this quote-unquote monkey off our back is to just just do it again [7:08] just to win so it's like can't avoid it really so it's one of those things that once you wake up [7:12] i'm i look at it different i'm excited for the opportunity just because it doesn't always happen [7:16] you know what i mean like you know i'm thinking we're here yeah i'm thinking this is the one [7:20] yeah and then when we went down three two and finals like i just gotta dig deep bro i've ever [7:25] kept saying gotta dig deep like i feel like uh it was never like at least speaking for myself like [7:34] it was never like discouraged like second sucks but it was also like uh motivating or like more [7:41] fuel because it's like we're right there exactly so like every sunday we go into it's never like [7:45] oh like i don't know i'm just looking forward to it like you said like brandon said yeah it's such [7:51] a huge opportunity you know what i mean yeah it's not the time to shy away from it that's the way i [7:55] look at it um you guys came out flat in the winner's final uh you you lose the thieves 3-0 it's your [8:01] first time losing a land match outside of grand finals this year um give me a walkthrough of like [8:06] what went went wrong and what'd you guys kind of talk about after the map brandon's pc was fucked [8:12] i couldn't get a kill so that definitely doesn't help if your team's playing through before [8:16] um especially the first two maps but um i mean after we lost i just looked at the team i was [8:22] like don't even like sweat it because if they play the exact same way and i just literally spawn in [8:26] then they're literally cooked so um just made sure to actually shoot my gun and uh we'll leave it at [8:34] that looks do you think that's something that like uh has changed with you throughout your career like [8:40] at this at the stage that you're in now being all old and stuff you know uh would you have [8:45] previously like maybe had a performance like that and not just taken accountability for it [8:51] yeah probably i mean that's definitely just helps with uh i guess experience over time it's actually [8:55] just one of the best lessons you can just have as a player is just just different i've had different [9:01] sundays where it started off like that and then maybe it spiraled out of control and then um maybe [9:06] just uh like maybe another day the same thing happens just like all these experiences over the years [9:12] of just happening and how to deal with it and how to deal with adversity is uh definitely helps i mean [9:16] um that's definitely one of the perks of being the oldest player in the league you know what i mean [9:20] hey the bet i haven't seen it all i still have a lot to learn even nowadays even playing as much [9:25] as i have but uh i definitely have uh some things i could fall back on whenever you know just things [9:32] aren't going my way or whatever and then just kind of understand that uh it's happened before and [9:35] it's normal and then for the rest of you when you have that happen and maybe brandon comes out a [9:40] little bit flat like do you guys still have full confidence uh when you guys come out of that that it was [9:44] just it's a series and you're moving forward and you know you know you're going to get a better [9:47] version of them yeah i mean i was glad we lost i swear to god i'm telling you always you will see [9:53] the process you'll see the camera was just looking at us like we're freaking free we look like we're [9:59] psychotic we look like we just won like we're just we were manifesting this uh we were manifesting [10:04] the matchup i swear i mean yeah because every other every other tournament like you said we haven't [10:10] we've never lost outside of grand funnels so we know that route like we know the route just like [10:15] winning and then just waiting there watching the entire like series and then just like all right [10:19] like we'll get up on stage again and you know kind of like sometimes you come out flat sometimes you [10:24] win game one but this time around we had like a good series against you know a team that we really [10:29] wanted to beat and yeah we just came out with fire against lates map one uh after the 3-0 um you guys [10:36] know you're playing gentle mates with probably like the craziest crowd buff in in cod history um what do you [10:42] guys thinking do you guys talk about anything i know in the comments video may said uh that that [10:47] that it was uh circled on the calendar um what were you guys kind of what were you guys feeling going [10:53] going into that throw against those guys oh yeah dude that weird knowing we won that shit i mean [11:00] that's the best way to put it we were just excited i mean because right after we lost the major [11:06] or our major to them we were just like we gotta go to their place we gotta get our get back yeah that's [11:14] the only way to get even if we beat them at like Birmingham or Atlanta that's the only way to like [11:19] somewhat regain out of that whole situation you gotta go where it would actually hurt because [11:22] they really wanted to win that one just like we really wanted to win major one also i feel like [11:26] every series like i just go on like with full confidence because like we practice every single [11:31] day like um and we have good practice so i feel like even if you lose a series at least for me like [11:38] i'm never like oh like whatever like it's like you just go with full confidence into the next [11:42] that's how i look at it because even if like despite even if one of us drops like a fucking [11:47] 0.6 like they can still drop a 2.0 next series yeah like that's how i'm thinking of it literally [11:53] what if it's a 0.4 44 might be a little 0.4 you might be tweaking [11:58] 0.65 like god damn he was just tweaking no danny [12:04] uh so before we get into the map one um the series before the gentlemates played [12:10] uh there were some situations that got spoiled by the crowd obviously we've had that before at [12:15] call of duty tournaments it was just enhanced a little bit because it was such a crazy crowd [12:19] uh do you guys talk about this heading into the match against them yeah i brought it up in the [12:24] room just like the first day but i actually only talked to ann about it i was like yo if we ever get [12:28] in the situation with like wherever playing i mean we're gonna be getting booed the whole time so [12:32] maybe the crowd's gonna give it away but especially if we play gentlemates then just to make sure that [12:36] we kind of know how to play around it just because i mean we're all we're on the receiving end of like [12:40] they're good you know i'm saying like the the fans on our side so it works both ways people just [12:44] think that it only helps us but in reality you could also manipulate it against you if you know [12:48] how to use it so it's like one of those things where i learned some cs tech i said yo get halfway [12:52] done with the bomb wait till you hear the crowd because once you hear they also hear it so it's [12:55] like they're going to react the same way you think they're going to react literally their first [12:59] thought is oh shit he's on it yeah exactly and the fans aren't going to be like oh he's on he's on [13:03] and once you're not on they're going to be like no he's not no he's but they don't know [13:05] all they hear is audio like you know i mean like uh may standing up after map one this is your first [13:11] time i think doing this like on optic besides after winning an event like you've stood up obviously [13:16] when you guys have won um what happened walk me through that it was it like challengers mace coming [13:22] out a little bit or like what was the vibes he's been waiting for that i don't know they just came [13:28] i don't know they just wanted to see us lose that's just what i was thinking they just wanted [13:33] to see us lose and they were loud so it's just like so you gotta just you gotta remind them whole event whether you play [14:00] gentlemates or not how did this kind of feel and what was it like to to be the ones to send [14:04] gentlemates home at their own event felt really good i mean we're i mean yeah we don't really have [14:11] the personalities of being a villain but i mean it was cool to i guess experience not being like [14:16] praised just because like you see the other side yeah you kind of just see the other side the best [14:21] way to put it like everyone just doubting you you know what i mean everyone just doesn't want [14:25] you to win so you just i don't know it's just it's just different it's hard to explain dude it was [14:32] like it was good to like see that side it was sick it's like because like now yeah now i know how other [14:36] people are feeling like yeah they're thinking oh these guys want to see us lose no like that's just [14:41] gonna we gotta try extra hard for me it was like it was so satisfying to experience it just because [14:46] i mean i've been on optic for what seven years i mean there was one year i didn't play [14:52] counting the mw year but for the most part you're just it's like obviously like it's the [14:57] that's the sick part is just like the fans like cheering and like getting loud whenever you're [15:00] getting kills but like to see the other side it's kind of very similar like you're still getting that [15:05] same level of respect but just in a completely different way and then honestly it was pretty [15:08] cool just because like it's not like if we went on stage and everybody was full mute i'd be like [15:12] okay this is weird they don't even know they don't even acknowledge us but like it was the fact that [15:15] they were booing us just as loud as they were cheering for their own team so it was like [15:19] we were still getting that like level of like i feel like yeah i feel like it's just a different way [15:24] i feel like some things like obviously we have really good comms but like i feel like some teams [15:29] like if when the crowd's like going crazy like their comms might be like tweaking their comms [15:35] are def tweaking like after every kill and they're like oh yeah yeah like obviously we're good at [15:39] it but like i don't know i just feel like some teams would definitely tweak about that and this one [15:44] also felt a little personal because everyone always says that they're insane oh dude the crowd [15:47] most insane this i'm like okay bro the crowd's gonna be against me how about that you know i mean [15:51] there's 30k people against us and it was like we're gonna still like you know i mean find a way [15:55] but i couldn't wait just to like like this one is one of like the more satisfying trophies we've won [16:00] in a minute that's definitely cool i mean this was definitely like more i guess extreme but i was [16:05] gonna say like i've kind of been in those scenarios before so i was i don't know i guess i didn't think [16:12] too much about anything because it's like i've kind of been in this moment before not to this like i said [16:18] not to that degree but so that was my only thoughts on that to be honest what were the pre-grand finals [16:24] conversations like after beating gentlemates you're about to play thieves again you just [16:29] got 3-0'd by them like what 30 40 minutes before that yeah we're just saying like we can't wait [16:35] yeah we actually gonna wait it's like let's do this shit coming out delusional dude just like [16:42] especially after that den hp dude once i went the way it did i was like these guys really thought [16:46] that first series was like yeah now we've honestly didn't like everything anything like obviously we [16:50] got 3-0'd by them but we just stuck stuck true to our game and just came out blazing i think the [16:57] biggest like mindset was obviously like the overloads for the most part because yeah i think we had to [17:02] play what grand holmes we played was a scar grid grid and grid so i think it would have played it i [17:09] think it still would have been scar grid i mean if we won team a because like yeah they're still be [17:13] doing expo we're still be doing done but it's just the order probably would have been different [17:16] probably had grid first yeah grid first exactly yeah so yeah we just came out with just delusional [17:21] confidence i mean you heard it from the comms like we're fucking saying that psychotic shit [17:25] mace is fucking saying ripped fucking yeah we're all doped up um i know it's been a little bit of a [17:32] controversial topic throughout the year with like teams coming through winners teams coming through [17:36] losers obviously you guys came through winners three times you come through losers you come out and [17:41] you 100 point club the same team that just 3-0'd you what was kind of like the feeling of being on [17:45] that end of things after being in winners kind of feeling that on the other side the last three [17:51] events and then i have a follow-up question to that yeah i prefer just playing always like i mean [17:57] that's just me though like i hate it i mean obviously it's like i think it's just really a map one buff [18:01] more like i don't know i feel like after map one it doesn't really matter as much but i feel like it [18:07] definitely helps map one for sure even if even if you're like warming up and shit like you're not [18:11] like in the and like the you're not getting a match like completely different like yeah i feel [18:17] like just your energy level and stuff is just way different and so being on both sides of things if [18:21] you guys could because obviously champs it's only the last two teams so there's not really like an [18:26] advantage one way or the other on sunday um but if we're talking next season i feel like you guys are [18:30] the perfect candidates to like talk about being on both sides of things what would you like to see [18:35] as the way that the winner's final like advantage is given there's two things um i mean obviously [18:41] two best of fives would be the best but obviously the league is least likely to do that just because [18:46] of like i mean they're worried about like maybe a 20 minute 3-0 but like what's the difference in a [18:50] 20 minute 3-0 and a 30 minute 4-0 it's a 10 extra minutes you know i mean that's why i look at it but [18:54] um i'd probably say that or maybe like a 1-0 advantage something like that um maybe make it a best of [19:01] nine with a 1-0 lead so it's like kind of like i'm the mw i think a best of nine with the 1-0 lead [19:07] would be pretty nice something like that but um the current format is just there is literally no [19:13] point to just come through winners like literally anything i feel like literally anything two best [19:16] of fives 1-0 be 0-9 so yeah it's a double elimination bracket until it's not you know what [19:21] i mean so it's kind of doesn't make any sense like we lost one time at all the majors but we only [19:26] but the this is the one that we won the tournament so it's it's definitely not perfect but [19:32] it's tricky it is tricky i will say though because uh two best of sevens from my experience is like [19:40] very hard because i for me two best of five two best of sevens either one is both like for me like [19:49] i made it to finals when i was younger and sometimes i would win the first series but end up losing second [19:57] but i will say i because i never won a winner's finals for like the longest until like recently to [20:04] be honest and i was always making finals through losers but i will say the first win i got winning [20:12] two best of sevens was like one of the most satisfying things like ever because you really [20:16] earned that shit yeah it felt like we were truly like the better team like truly um you guys go down [20:22] two three in grand finals uh were there any thoughts in your guys's heads that started creeping in a little [20:29] bit um what was the mental like how'd you guys like stay composed because i know like from a fan [20:35] perspective if you're an optic fan you're thinking holy fuck there's no way this is going to happen [20:40] again like we we this just can't happen the boys got to pull through um you guys obviously know all the [20:46] fans and the org is thinking that the watch parties are thinking that how do you stay composed uh in that [20:53] moment to come out in that map six and push it to a game seven i don't really know like okay this is [20:59] the best way to explain it at least from my this is the way that i think like we're humans right [21:02] i feel like naturally we got second three times in a row naturally my mind is thinking like it could [21:09] happen again you know it's like that self-doubt but like me and i just i don't know i'm just so [21:13] confident in my game that like i know if i just perform you turn the tides you could just you know [21:18] what i mean you just turn the tides so i'd be lying if i said that there was not self-doubt you know [21:22] so yeah it's just kind of just you being confident i think i think confident is like the biggest thing [21:29] in anything in life and i think confidence you know led me to win that series that's what i think at [21:36] least yeah i think it's normal like i just we go down three two it's obviously that thought of like [21:41] this could happen again does creep in but it's like as soon as i start thinking that i just know [21:45] it's not going to help so it's just like okay like i could maybe dwell on the fact that we lost if we [21:49] do lose like if it does happen but in the moment right now like i could still we're still in it so [21:53] then you just try to like eliminate those thoughts and then because it will just creep in it's very [21:57] normal but um it's just how you kind of manage it is just different i guess person to person but [22:03] um we also have we also gained experience from all these finals we've been on we've been the team [22:08] up three two and lost we've been the team down two three and still lost we've been down every sin [22:12] yeah so it's not like literally it's really not over until it's over everything we've seen it [22:17] eight seconds left house to control ewc yeah yeah i've seen nrg be up 12-0 to go to the next [22:25] stage of a major like what's that saying we've snatched victory from the jaws it's never over [22:30] after watching nrg blow 12-0 yeah to call the next round of the major event yeah really i think it's g2 it's not over it's g2 uh i mean that's just [23:42] so yeah game seven um s and d was kind of a weak point at times for you guys what kind of what kind [23:49] of brought it together to have such a dominant map seven because i felt like you have some you have [23:55] some like game sevens and some big s and d's that feel like they're an hour long because like [23:59] every round is a grueler this one it felt like you snapped five minutes where it went by and it [24:04] was 5-1 and you guys were one around away from winning what kind of made it so textbook i probably [24:11] i mean we know like we we somewhat have like each other's play styles and destiny like to be honest [24:17] but we felt like we knew what they're gonna do and we kind of just stuck true to our game and [24:22] and i think later throughout the rounds you could kind of just see them being desperate to be honest [24:27] is the best way to put it we didn't really like overthink it we didn't switch up any strats [24:31] this or that we kind of just like you know played s and d and you know you executed i also do think [24:38] that you know like you kind of have to get credit to the users because i know it's the cliche answer [24:41] to do but they're in low-key and insane s and d team you know what i mean they were on a 16 match [24:46] win 17 whatever it was something crazy 16 match win streak and then bro like i want to say like [24:52] like the main the core game mode that got them that win streak is 1 million percent the searches and [24:56] the overloads but um just one of those things where like i think we were winning actually searches [25:02] against everybody else well actually boston beat us but our snds has actually been improving it's [25:07] just against them specifically that we're gonna have to definitely look at a few things to like [25:11] see what we can do better but they're definitely really good at it so for for mace um you've gotten [25:18] a lot of gas since you've made it to the league since you've been a part of optic um and then over the [25:25] last like a little bit there were some haters there were some doubters there were some people saying [25:29] maybe you weren't adjusting welcome to the dark side you read those comments i mean you definitely [25:34] see them but like i don't know i don't really care i just think i just swear i thought i thought you wanted uwc but then they said that like i [27:29] said yeah yeah but it was like you wanted but then but that was where they like put your picture dude [27:33] i saw dude i was looking behind our setup and then it said by like mvp and i'm like what is this [27:36] this is some weird going on here like i swear to god like on the wall it said bruce but in that [27:42] picture really but in the moment i didn't give a though because i'm like wow we just went champs [27:49] yeah but in a way like i don't know i was i was obviously a little surprised because like i [27:53] honestly think any one of us could get it and i'm usually just the one that's like you know the [27:58] collector but uh i guess this time that they decided to give it to me and i'm honestly it's [28:03] definitely really a cool uh like medal and then even gotaga just coming down and uh handing the [28:08] medal was definitely a a special moment and um but yeah i don't really it's not one of those [28:15] things where it's like anything crazy just because i mean they got to give it to somebody one of [28:19] us four is getting it so it's just yeah that metal you deserve it i think it was like the eighth [28:24] prestige from mw2 if you guys actually are even on the trophy that's what i was asking like like [28:30] if you like i haven't peeped it too much if you look at the the prestigious on mw2 you might see [28:34] some similarities from like the trophy maybe i could be making that up but and then for ant [28:39] obviously like a lot of players go without winning any major tournaments um a lot of players go without [28:44] winning champs um some players will win a couple some players will win champs and kind of get comfortable [28:50] they feel like they've like checked off the one thing on their like pro player to-do list [28:56] and and that's kind of the end of it um this is your 10th call of duty tournament win you've got [29:03] four rings including your halo one you're 24 years old um you're going into champs here in two weeks [29:11] what keeps you on the quest of trying to be great and winning championships i think that's just my [29:19] personality like the way that i view call of duty is just so different compared to everyone else that [29:23] like i'm just such a team player and yeah like individual doesn't like obviously it's good to [29:29] win individual stuff like mvps and something like that but i'm just way more like happy when i am just [29:36] impactful is the best way to put it like i've always even in halo like kyle could vouch like i was never [29:41] individual like i was always just doing as a team you know what i mean like i was always opening the map [29:47] being unselfish and that's kind of just the way that i've always cared myself in gaming in general [29:52] so um i think that's what motivates me just being unselfish this will basically be one of the last [29:58] times that the fans uh and the people hear from you guys between now and champs i don't think it [30:02] really has to be said uh in regards to champs but there's going to be a target on your guys's heads [30:09] probably the biggest target there's ever been out of champs um what's kind of the mindset going into [30:14] this tournament how are you guys feeling what are you guys going to do between now and then to [30:18] prepare the way i look at it is like people just have a target on us regardless even if it's like [30:23] an online qualifier match which is why i always say that we get the best versions of everyone [30:28] when we play a random 2 p.m match on a on a friday just in a league match just because [30:33] people just live to play optic i mean there's more there's more people watching there's more people [30:37] um that care about the match and we're obviously i guess in my opinion i mean we can't be any more [30:42] prepared because i mean we're going to play the best versions of everyone regardless and then now [30:46] it's just 2x that champs but um we're also going to be matching so it's just one of those where [30:51] we're the best team win and we're coming in locked i'll just say um yeah we're feeling good coming off [30:59] the win and uh yeah we're just going to try to get better kind of agreeing with all them but yeah just [31:05] prepare as best as we can for two weeks um do what we've been doing any last things to say obviously to uh [31:13] to the fans that showed out all the way in in france and then the tens of thousands of fans [31:18] who who watched online who supported you guys um from afar back in the states all over the world [31:25] paris loves batman [31:28] no yeah shout out the green one real seriously obviously the majority of you guys didn't pull [31:32] up because it's you know such a that flight was like eight ten hours so i don't blame you guys but [31:38] i'm sure that you know the majority of you guys are gonna pull up for champs so
