NY Toy Fair 2026: TMNT License SHOCKER & He-Man Takes Over!

[00:00:00] Speaker 1: and here we are again the Jacob Javits Center in New York City every single February this place lights up with banners with balloons with bright colors all to celebrate toys play celebrating play all of the toy companies come here every single year for one reason and that is to show off their new toys they're here to show the press what to expect this year but more importantly they're here to sell their toys to retailers so that retailers can sell those toys to you i come here every single year to cover what's new specifically in the action figure space at new york toy fair and this year is no different so what is toy fair all about what can we see on the show floor what do i think was the hit of the show well come with me let's go check out new york toy fair [00:01:35] Speaker ?: new york toy fair and this year is the big piece of news that broke right before we came out here [00:01:44] Speaker 1: so the big piece of news that broke right before we came out here was the ninja turtles license jumping we all now know that mattel has the master license for the green teens and we know that playmates toys will no longer be able to produce ninja turtles action figures after this year when we visited the playmates toys booth we did see the remainder of the tmnt product that's going to be coming from that company we saw the new tmnt godzilla figures we saw a really cool crossover in the ninja turtles and gi joe and we saw the fate of the final figures being released for the retro line and their mutant mayhem line but we know that playmates toys is losing the license but what about all the other companies that are also doing ninja turtles action figures the reality is is that toy fair didn't really give us any answers and it's probably just because it's too early for that while we know that playmates toys isn't doing anything with turtles after this year we still don't know what's going to happen with guys like super 7 or neka or mondo or mcfarlane or anybody else we've asked the question around and we're kind of just getting the answer of we're going to continue on as is for right now and we will see what the future holds so will mattel be the sole company making turtles product come 2027 time will tell on that it's definitely going to be interesting oh by the way i have to point out the playmates toys logo on their booth gotta love that it's a cool little nut it's a friendly little squirrel huh just making friends here at toy fair outside of the lego booth so one of those things that i always make sure to tell people is that if you are interested in coming to toy fair remember that this is a trade show it's very business oriented and a lot of times you need to have an appointment if you're planning to come in and see things as press some booths are fully closed off like lego here some of these booths don't even allow you to bring your camera inside to see their product like lego here you got to remember that this show is first and foremost a place for these toy companies to sell their product to retail stores to get it into stores so that you can buy it so sometimes it's not all about showing things off to the public but even for a place like lego who doesn't allow us to take our cameras inside they've got some pretty cool display set up here and lots of product that you can look at in an amazing display built out of bricks yo can i do fist bumps can we do fist bumps boom it's amazing you look great so one of the things i want to talk about that seems to be a lot more common these days with toy fair is that many of the things that we come here to see the new toy reveals well those oftentimes just happen online now before the show even starts and i'm not even necessarily talking about leaks i'm talking about these companies putting this stuff out there themselves sometimes it'll be big news outlets variety that are posting about new toys associated with new movies coming out or sometimes the toy companies will just put the photos out there on social media so then you'll show up at these events here at toy fair hoping to see new product and it's just the stuff that was revealed this previous week and that can be a little disappointing sometimes but what i will say is that getting to see things in person is definitely better than seeing the early renders that get released online or some of the photos that you see being able to actually get good shots of the product ask for demonstrations or product walkthroughs get all of those angles of everything that could be very helpful so sometimes we just got to make the best of the situation that we've got and understand that these guys have to put the stuff out there in the world of social media they want to get their stuff seen by as many people as possible and that's why it's my job to try to come at it at a different angle and get really good footage or photographs of everything as best as i can rawr it's me a stranger thing is that what they say in that show stranger things why are you all still kids you know not every toy company makes it out to toy fair for whatever reason some of them just stopped coming to the show all together or maybe they just didn't set up this year for instance jack specific they haven't been to toy fair in several years jada toys they used to have a booth here they don't set up a booth here anymore one this year that was really interesting to me is loyal subjects didn't have booth space on the show floor this time they had an event that was off site they had like an off-site party where they showed off some of their product and that's not uncommon that has happened hasbro used to always be off-site but it is interesting because it's a pretty drastic difference from last year where loyal subject had a massive booth where they rolled out all of their new product like mask and my pet monster and this time they decided to be off-site at an event so sometimes you just don't know exactly what to expect when you come to toy fair i'm not going to get anything done today because all i can do is stare at this you know some of the booths some of the booths are pretty cool at toy fair some of them are in big showrooms like mattel some of them are off-site some of them build up some really neat booth spaces that are more than just showing off the toys so one of those things i thought might be kind of fun this year is to get some shots of the actual booths themselves a lot of times when you guys are seeing photos or even my video coverage from the show you're just seeing close-ups of the product itself so i did my best to try to get some nice panning shots of the booth so that you guys can see what it's like to be inside toy fair not always easy to do because there's always a lot of people in there but we managed to get some cool shots so check out some of these cool booths that's my favorite pokemon by the way in case you're ever wondering what's up gengar [00:09:04] Speaker ?: so so so so so so so so so so [00:10:46] Speaker 1: okay so you guys want to know my favorite things from the show you want to know the things that i thought were some of the coolest well let me go ahead and talk about some of my favorite surprises at the show and coincidentally they all happened right here in the neca toys booth i think some of the things that surprised me the most were the disney afternoons figures those ducktail figures they look amazing and they really feel like they're going to fit right in with some of the other stuff neca's been doing like the cartoon ninja turtles figures and stuff like that i was not expecting to see that of course they also revealed their muppets figures here which we knew that was going to be coming but still what a great like natural transition from doing some Sesame Street, we get some Muppets. But here's the thing, this might be the craziest reveal of the show. Ultimate Grimace? Are you kidding me? McDonaldland characters coming from NECA Toys is one of those things that's just so fun. And I hope that we get some more of those McDonaldland characters past the Grimace. But the Grimace, the Grimace was not on my bingo card for this. I'm going to give you guys the best advice I can give you. Find somebody who supports you like this. This is how you get things done. I couldn't get anything done at this show without this pretty lady right here. Right there. Get yourself a Stina. Not my Stina though. No, no. But get your own Stina. So what was the talk of the show? I promise I'm not biased in this. The talk of the show was absolutely Masters of the Universe. With a movie coming out in June, new product on display. It seems to be what everybody was buzzing about. The Masters of the Universe display and the Mattel showroom behind me was certainly the most crowded every time I had an opportunity to go in there. And it just really seemed like everybody was talking about it. Now again, Masters of the Universe is kind of like my baby. It's what I talk about the most on this channel. So maybe that is coming from a biased place. Everybody was talking to me about it all weekend long. So for me, this was a He-Man toy fair. That's just all there is to it. And it really seems like there's a lot of excitement for this film in the industry. I know that we were talking to Ruby's costumes. They do Halloween costumes. And we confirmed that they have costumes coming out from this movie. It'll be interesting to see if any other licensing rolls out that goes right along with it. So new toys were on display. I got to play with them. It was exciting. I'm excited for this movie. And that was really bleeding out throughout this whole show. That excitement, it was buzzing.
