New Hampshire governor and her security team assist driver after crash

[0:00] At approximately 11.55 a.m. State Police Dispatch received a report of a vehicle that had crashed into the Toll Plaza located on the F.E. Everett Turnpike northbound in the town of Bedford. [0:13] Shortly after the crash, one of our state troopers assigned to the governor's security detail came upon the accident just after it had crashed into the Toll Plaza, recognized that it was a serious collision with the cement barriers at the tolls. [0:34] The vehicle immediately became engulfed in flames and the trooper, without hesitation, responded to the vehicle along with a couple bystanders and proceeded to respond. [0:46] The troopers from Troop B barracks responded within minutes of the call, along with troopers from Troop G, Bedford Fire and Rescue, Litchfield and Merrimack Fire Departments, along with the Department of Transportation. [1:05] The northbound lanes of the F.E. Everett Turnpike remain closed at this time. [1:11] DOT is currently assessing the damage to the Toll Plaza. [1:16] As a result, [1:16] the trooper was taken to an area hospital where he is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. [1:34] His condition right now is unknown and the accident still remains under investigation. [1:39] Like I said, the accident is still under investigation, so I don't have all of the details about the event. [1:56] But the trooper, you know, like I said, without hesitation, recognized that it was a serious crash and that there was clearly somebody still within the vehicle. [2:06] And they were able to, I believe, pull the person out through the window along with a couple bystanders that also stopped to help the trooper. [2:13] So the governor was there on scene. [2:23] Like I said, it was a trooper from her security detail. [2:26] The governor did get out of the vehicle and tried to assist in any way she could at the scene. [2:31] She wasn't in harm's way at any point. [2:33] She, she has a great deal of care for our citizens and tried to do what she could at the scene to provide assistance. [2:40] Did she have a fire extinguisher? [2:43] I believe she did, you know, there was other people that had stopped at the scene and I believe she did try to get a fire extinguisher from somebody's vehicle to help out. [2:53] Several people had stopped at the scene, I believe it was two others that helped the trooper remove the driver from the vehicle. [3:09] Who jumped in as to how long he, I assume it was a man, but was it a woman trooper? [3:15] Can you tell us, like, the background, how long they stayed there? [3:17] Yeah, I'm not, I'm not at liberty to talk about their, because of their assignment, I'm not at liberty to discuss their identity or, but it is a veteran trooper and certainly their actions were heroic in what they did without hesitation, put themselves in danger to render aid to somebody that clearly was in need of it and, you know, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. [3:39] It was, it was a pretty dangerous situation. [3:40] The car was a 2026 Lucid Gravid. [3:50] It's an electric vehicle. [3:51] It was an electric vehicle, which posed some challenges for the fire crews that were there trying to extinguish the flames. [3:57] As far as the investigation goes, I don't have any specifics. [4:00] You know, it's still very early on to determine why the accident actually happened, so I don't have any specifics on the actual investigation. [4:14] That I'm not aware. [4:18] Yes, just a single occupant. [4:20] I know that you don't know all the details of how the save happened, but you did say that the driver was taken through the window. [4:24] We had heard something about the driver being put in a passing car to get away from the firing wreck. [4:29] Is there any truth to that, as far as you know? [4:31] That could very well be. [4:33] I don't have that information. [4:35] It very well could be that, you know, to get them away from the scene, obviously, it was a dangerous situation for everybody involved, so that very well could be. [4:43] But eventually, they were transported by EMS to the hospital. [4:48] Did you talk to the trooper? [4:51] I talked to the trooper to make sure they were okay. [4:56] You know, fortunately, no serious injuries, and they're doing just fine. [5:00] And, you know, just... [5:03] As many of them say, just doing their job. [5:06] So, I'm very appreciative of their efforts. [5:12] But, we have a location. [5:17] Are there any concerns about a physical toll versus an automated something that... [5:23] Well, there is a project ongoing to improve the toll plaza. [5:27] We have had several crashes there over the years, and I think there's a project underway. [5:32] But the Department of Transportation would be able to give you specifics on what exactly is taking place and how long that's going to take. [5:40] Is there anyone else...
