Media melts down over Trump's speech: 'CAN'T TAKE A JOKE'

[0:00] It was on Jesse, so I stayed up and watched the whole thing. [0:03] And it was exactly as Caroline Levitt said. [0:06] It would be unifying, which is how he started, and then it was vicious, [0:10] and there were a lot of laughs throughout it. [0:12] Here's a little bit of what happened. [0:16] As I said three months ago, the show must go on. [0:21] We were back. [0:23] I think a lot was learned from that evening. [0:25] Tremendous amount was learned about security and about other things, [0:28] the dangers of what we all do. [0:30] But just like my presidency, the second time is always better. [0:37] It's always better. [0:38] And the third time will be better yet. [0:45] After hearing the gunshots, many people yelled, [0:48] get down, get down, which caused Nicki Minaj to start twerking. [0:55] Do you believe it? [0:57] Get down. [0:58] The association really put on a big show. [1:02] They thought about going with a professional clown for entertainment, [1:06] entertainment, but Adam Shifty Schiff was not available. [1:10] I was disappointed that Gavin Newsom didn't show up. [1:14] I heard that he recently said that we will lose our country [1:19] if we don't fight fire with fire. [1:22] And to be fair, there's only one thing we know about Gavin, [1:26] and that's that he definitely doesn't want to fight fire with water. [1:28] I hope that everyone finally got to enjoy their entire very delicious beef tenderloin, [1:36] very special beef. [1:39] And I want you all to know that Bobby Kennedy, who's right here, [1:42] personally ran over the cow in his car. [1:46] Bobby also suggested an appetizer featuring his favorite cut of male raccoon roadkill. [1:53] Oh, man, I love seeing Cheryl Hines as her. [2:01] She's looking at this thing, wow. [2:03] Good stuff, but media didn't seem to like it. Watch. [2:09] None of them were funny. [2:10] They were all just, like, literal bombs. [2:12] Like, it was just bomb after bomb after bomb. [2:14] It's like, we're not Iran. [2:16] This felt so far to me like one of those awkward wedding speeches [2:21] where the bride's father thinks he's funnier than he is. [2:25] It is not funny to watch a head of state put on a hat that signifies that he is going to be a dictator. [2:30] The bottom line is this, you know, I have a lot of trouble sleeping at night. [2:34] I often have to take Benadryl, but I'm not going to have to take any Benadryl at night [2:37] because I could just replay that speech and I'll fall asleep like that. [2:40] So, of course, it was the moment where he puts on the 22, Trump 2020 hat that really sort of had them come unglued, [2:48] even though that had been a joke throughout the speech, and he made it clear that it was a joke, [2:53] but they can't take a joke. [2:54] But I think the fact that they are so insistent that he's not funny when, you know, [3:00] obviously the country is sort of divided, but most people find the guy very, very funny. [3:06] Even if you don't like Donald Trump, you find him very, very funny. [3:10] And the fact that they are still incapable of finding any humor in him, [3:14] I think says more about them than it does about him. [3:16] You know, I thought one of the parts of the speeches that really stood out was [3:20] there was a moment where he was talking about his relationship [3:24] and openness to the press. [3:26] And he talked to, he said, I would ask Caroline Levitt, [3:28] do I have any calls from the press? [3:30] No, sir, no, sir, no, sir. [3:31] Ask Stephen Chung, do I have any calls from her? [3:33] No, sir, no, sir. [3:34] And I'm thinking, I'm the president of the United States. [3:36] I'm going to give my phone number to the press. [3:38] And now everybody calls me. [3:39] And sometimes I answer. [3:41] And he kind of talked about that. [3:43] And that really brought out, Rachel, the fact that unlike the previous president, [3:48] Joe Biden, which we really never saw, and even the press that adored him [3:52] couldn't get access to him, this is the most accessible president. [3:55] And as he defended the First Amendment and press freedom while he took shots at him [4:00] because he knew, you knew he was going to do that, he did elevate really kind of what is the purpose [4:05] of this evening, which is about press access and transparency. [4:10] Yeah, he's not really rewarded for the press access that he gives. [4:13] I mean, you're right. [4:14] All these top journalists in Washington, D.C. do have his personal number. [4:19] He'll stay for, you know, however long, you know, before he gets on a helicopter or a plane [4:24] and answer whatever questions they have. [4:26] He's not rewarded for it. [4:27] And by the way, they seem annoyed that he was roasting them. [4:30] That's kind of what this evening's about. [4:31] He gets up, he roasts people, and there's no better trolling than putting on a 2028 hat [4:36] on something that, you know, just absolutely drove them crazy. [4:40] And you'd think after everything that happened, you know, on the last one, [4:44] that, you know, he's almost assassinated yet again, [4:47] that they would just put down their own swords and just have a good time. [4:51] But they couldn't find it in themselves to do that, so. [4:54] He, uh, one of the funniest moments, I thought, was when he said, [4:58] he was talking about trying to match his shoes with his bulletproof vests. [5:02] When you wear a bulletproof vests, he said, I'm not doing that. [5:04] It makes me look 21 pounds heavier. [5:06] Not gonna do it. [5:08] All right.
