[00:00:00] Speaker 1: We're continuing to follow the latest for you as no decision has been reached in the Lindsay Clancy trial. Just putting this up on your screen right now, saying breaking the jury in the Lindsay Clancy trial has been dismissed for the day without a verdict. The jurors have not been sequestered but cannot discuss or read about the case. They've deliberated for roughly 10 hours over two days so far. Deliberations resume Monday morning. As we're continuing to follow this, I want to take us live right now to Massachusetts as Fox News correspondent Caroline Elliott is following this story for us. Caroline, what's the latest?
[00:00:36] Caroline Elliott: Well, Anna, the jury was just released in the last 10 minutes here without a verdict. And we do expect them to return here on Monday morning. But the judge here gave strict instructions for the jury to not look at any media coverage of any kind over the weekend that could affect the outcome. of this verdict. Both prosecutors and the defense team agree that Lindsay Clancy killed her three kids. But what jurors must determine is whether she did it knowingly or if she did it because she was affected by a condition known as postpartum psychosis.
[00:01:11] Speaker 3: Was she depressed? Yes. Was she suicidal? It certainly appears to me she was. But was she impaired to the point, psychotic to the point where she didn't know what she was doing?
[00:01:21] Caroline Elliott: If she's acquitted by reason of insanity, Clancy would be discharged to a state mental hospital, but would undergo regular assessments. She could stay there for the rest of her life or could potentially one day go free if her doctors and a judge no longer consider her dangerous or mentally ill.
[00:01:39] Speaker 4: It's a situation where we might see the sentence pushing the verdict where jurors might be thinking, well, you know, I'm concerned about what's going to happen to her. And that's going to play a role in their deliberations where it really should not.
[00:01:53] Caroline Elliott: Jurors were asked whether they had read or heard anything that could impact their ability to be impartial in the case. And all said, no, the jury is not sequestered, meaning they'll go home for the weekend even without a verdict.
[00:02:06] Speaker 4: The only people that they're allowed to discuss this case with are their fellow jurors and inside of the deliberation room. That's going to be difficult.
[00:02:17] Caroline Elliott: And the jury also sent the first note over to the judge this morning asking about the pill bottles and the knife prosecutors say she tried to use on herself, but still too early to tell what a direction the jury could be leaning in at this time. Anna.
[00:02:33] Speaker 1: And Caroline, you know, throughout this trial, we've seen postpartum supporters outside the courtroom. Are you seeing any action there in Massachusetts today outside the courtroom?
[00:02:46] Caroline Elliott: Yeah, well, we did see a lot of supporters and people of the public showing up earlier this week, going into the courtroom to see what was going on with this case. We will tell you, in the last 30 minutes here, we did see someone show up to support the prosecution in this case, saying that Lindsay Clancy is guilty. They said they do think she should go to prison. But over the course of this trial, like you said, we've seen a lot of women speaking out in support of Lindsay Clancy. So we know there's a lot of eyes on this case right now, but we'll have to wait and see what happens with the verdict. Anna.
[00:03:20] Speaker 1: Caroline, thank you for your reporting and breaking it all down. I'm sure we'll be checking in again soon. And, of course, I just want to show you a live look that we have coming in right now outside that courtroom there in Plymouth, Massachusetts. We actually did hear from Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, as the team departed that area in Massachusetts. We want to go ahead and play out his remarks for you here on Live Now from Fox. He spoke very briefly to the media, but we weren't able to catch it. Take a listen.
[00:03:53] Kevin Reddington: I think I got my body gun here. I'm the body gun. What does the jury ask? The question. Were they able to see the knife and the pill? They just wanted to see the evidence, and the judge let them look at the evidence.
[00:04:08] Speaker 1: Which evidence did they try to see?
[00:04:10] Kevin Reddington: The two bags that have the pills in them, in the bottles, inside the bags, and the knife.
[00:04:17] Caroline Elliott: And how do you feel 24 hours after closing arguments?
[00:04:21] Kevin Reddington: Fine. It's Friday. Happy it's Friday? You weren't confident yesterday. You're confident now? What a sweetheart. Yes, of course. Thank you, brother. No problem. Kevin, you said you weren't confident yesterday. You're confident today? No, I said I'm never confident. I don't know what a jury's going to do, so I'm not going to say, oh yeah, I'm confident. No, I have no idea. They work hard. It's been a long trial, and I have faith in the jury system. How is Lindsay feeling going into the weekend? Nervous, scared, beat down as usual. Hey, what's it like? What's the waiting like for her?
[00:04:47] Speaker ?: Back up, guys.
[00:04:47] Kevin Reddington: Back up. What's that? What's the waiting like for her? It's got to be tough. Just waiting for something to happen. If I took you and put you in a locked room, and you were looking at a possibility of three consecutive life sentences, what would you feel like? Yeah. Exactly. Okay. No problem.
[00:05:03] Caroline Elliott: Any concerns with the jury going home on the weekend, looking at social media?
[00:05:08] Kevin Reddington: Again, you know, jurors have been very, very focused. I think they listened to the judge, and the judge has been forceful in his instructions, so I have to believe that they're going to be fine. Kevin, how long did this go? Has that bode well for you? I've had him out for an hour. I've had him out for a week. I don't know. I don't know. Why do you think they wanted to see the knife? I could say I'll go in the room, and I'll ask them, and I'll report back to you. I don't know. You know? I don't have access to the jury room. What's that? What do you need into that request? The curb's coming, guys. Curbs, guys. Don't even tell them. Let them fall off the curb. Stop, stop. You've been looking out for me all week. Come on. Give me a break. Watch out, watch out, watch out. Watch out, watch out, guys. So, what's your take of day two of deliberation, Kevin? Day two of what? Deliberation. Day working hard. It's been a five-week trial. It's all you've got to expect. There's 290 pieces of evidence or 293-something. Mr. Reddington, would you have preferred that this jury be sequestered? No, it takes them away from their family. They have lives, too. You know? I mean, and I have no reason to believe that they don't listen to the judge and listen to his instructions.
[00:06:23] Speaker 4: Even with how big this case has turned out to become?
[00:06:25] Kevin Reddington: The press reporting is just so accurate that I don't worry about it.
[00:06:31] Caroline Elliott: I mean, because the amount of evidence you expected this deliberation to take some time. I can't go there. Where's the barrier?
[00:06:41] Speaker 1: All right. Lindsay Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, speaking to the media there. As the jury has been dismissed for the day, they will return to continue deliberating on Monday. And we will, of course, continue to bring you any updates that we get right here on Live Now from Fox. and that means
