i don't think the word i'm not excited to listen to this press conference if that makes any sense [0:40] um i think we're gonna we should count down how many excuses we hear uh damn i should have gotten [0:47] a counter up man it would have been cool to hear and to have an excuse counter as to what's going on [0:56] or an accountability counter would have been cool as well if you guys are don't know we are live [1:02] on youtube and we're live on twitch right now so if you guys haven't been there feel free to join us [1:09] i do go live there uh three times a week minimum and we will be doing that i do gaming and i also do [1:16] um just kind of yankee stuff and on sundays chris and i will be doing pinstripe strong so that's every [1:22] single sunday we'll be doing that uh there we go all right let's see what you guys say this being [1:29] on zoom tells a lot about how they care bro i don't know why this shit is on zoom been 17 years [1:39] since the yankees won a championship why did i say it like that a champion chip um since the yankees [1:49] won a championship and now like this is what we got right um i mean whatever you know what are we [1:58] expecting for this press conference though i don't even know like what's the expectation here [2:04] like we're obviously just gonna hear a bunch of excuses right like i should have made a bingo card [2:10] bro damn son i'm slacking dog what the fuck i should have made a bingo card of what we're gonna see [2:18] or what we're gonna like that's what i needed to do hey miss the stash with the prime thank you so much [2:30] for joining the gang subs and members guys if you guys don't know we put some brand new emotes into [2:37] the channel they'll be uploaded into youtube shortly actually so we'll be getting uh we'll be getting it [2:44] onto youtube we're just waiting for the press conference to start it's supposed to start at [2:47] 10 30 and yeah that's where we're at how are you guys doing this morning man do you guys expect [2:56] anything like what do you guys expect here honestly speaking i should have made yeah i'm so dumb bro [3:04] i should have did a like next time all right so next time we do stuff like this i'll do like a [3:10] gift sub bet and i'll do like i'll do something like okay well if they say this or if they do this [3:19] or if whatever then we'll do gift subs kind of like what i do for like the the the video game stuff [3:24] that we do um right now it looks like they're showing yankees classics on yes what time is the [3:34] press conference it's at 10 30 and where can you watch it you can watch it on yes or you can watch it here [3:39] because i'm going to be reacting to it live addressing the fundamentals that have been you [3:45] know what let's we could do it right now hold on a second let's do let's do a quick a quick thing here [3:52] let's do a quick a quick thing here i think this is uh how much time we got eight minutes we'll have [4:01] to do it super fast we'll have to do it insanely fast right i don't think it'll be a bingo card because [4:10] i don't think i i i know how to make a bingo card that quick you know but we can do something real [4:16] quick uh shield your eyes for brightness please all right let's see so things the yankees will say [4:27] in this press conference i'm not gonna lie if they say this is brian cashman's last year [4:38] in the press conference that's 25 gifted i'm gonna be very honest with you 25 gifted cashman's last year [4:44] like if they if they say that that's 25 gifted to the chat bro 25 gifted to the chat i hope somebody [4:54] joins me on with that all right we're gonna talk about um if they say if they say oh my god if they [5:04] say it's a crapshoot like the postseason crapshoot if they say that the postseason is a crapshoot bro [5:16] that's like so expected i feel like they're gonna say that shit what do you guys think it's gonna say [5:27] boom bingo bullshit oh we were unlucky yes um unlucky unlucky unlucky is definitely is definitely [5:44] up there unlucky oh you do you guys want to use the injury excuse injury excuse now is this is this [5:59] something that counts for all three of them oh you know what if how comes out how holds people [6:11] accountable shows anger that won't happen bro uh i'll do five gifted i'll do five gifted for that [6:27] i'll do five gifted what else we got um oh my god if they talk about their postseason streak like we [6:36] haven't yes we haven't it's not easy to win a world series but we've we you know we try oh you know we [6:42] we put ourselves in position like we try to wait like if they try to say some shit about like [6:47] we make the postseason we've made the postseason anything of like we've made the postseason you [6:54] know uh four out of the last five years or something like that bro if we oh my god made [7:11] the postseason oh my god this is gonna be so funny bro this is gonna be so funny what else are they [7:25] gonna say what else are they gonna say uh made the playoffs they better not say we didn't have judge [7:32] they're definitely gonna use the judge excuse you know the judge excuse is happening bro it's [7:37] happening it's happening it's happening it's happening the chances of it is so high i'm only [7:42] doing three gifted yeah i am bad a whole bunch of people brandon who what else we got oh boone [8:03] gets sassy with a reporter do you want to put any one of them gets i mean because i think uh oh i'm gonna [8:11] put brian and joel get into confrontation [8:20] i feel this will be sad we have very good chances next year with this squad bro if they say that [8:32] if they say that oh where are we very good hasn't started yet yeah yeah they get heated heated heated [8:51] joe sherman is 100 i already know what joe sherman is gonna ask so i'm not gonna like put any kind of [8:57] like bet on it oh somebody will say you know what if they if they answer why it's a zoom i that'll be [9:17] interesting to me no the press conference starts at 10 30 so in two minutes we're trying to get like [9:33] all of these things at the end out so that we can find out exactly uh like what we think they're gonna [9:40] say first so we could put it yeah zoom call will be 240p audio will be oh um internet or audio will [9:58] be issue okay um let me see this start yet it hasn't has started yet they have fucking ac milan shit [10:15] going on press conference is gonna be on yes um joe's check your phone where where you didn't send [10:44] capabilities um oh oh what do you guys think they're probably gonna announce cashman's extension [11:00] what do you guys think the extension is what do you guys think the extension is cashman extension [11:10] three years you guys think it's three years three years plus three plus years that would be fucking [11:21] crazy damn what do we want to put on here man i wish i had more time if they say this is cashman's [11:46] last year that's 25 gifted yo straight up 25 gifted straight up he said you tried calling me [11:59] you have a few man we got like one minute hold on this should start yet okay well it looks like the [12:19] session is supposed to be starting here soon so we will do that so these are the questions here [12:26] where's the link to watch it uh watch the zoom it's on yes network so it'll be a yes network thing [12:34] oh my god i swear to god i i think that they're gonna say this shit i think that they're gonna say all [12:43] this shit guys i really do i'm afraid i'm almost afraid what other excuses can they use no it hasn't [13:18] started yet hasn't started yet i'm trying to get it for you guys but it just hasn't started yet [13:24] not focus oh and let's say okay let's say they're going to a commercial here hold on let's see why [13:54] wasn't the bullpen address at the deadline i don't know if they'll talk about that this is more about [13:59] the failings of this damn team you know like they're gonna ask about the failings of this team [14:06] and why we didn't do certain things right i forgot to put it on going live on youtube and twitch we're [14:25] gonna be watching this press conference together let's see let's see if any accountability happens [14:31] we got a little bit of a uh of a fun little bingo card that we put together to see if the yankees [14:37] actually do any of that stuff join us on there all right see you there oh there they go oh my god [14:47] they're together hold on a second president and general manager brian cashman with us on zoom from [14:52] tampa florida uh as all of you who have been on these calls before we will use the raise hand [15:00] function to get to as many questions as we can um a reminder we'll have aaron boone following uh [15:09] hal and cash why didn't they just tell people and uh we'll use the same link so we'll mute [15:15] everybody we'll take a short break we'll get uh aaron set up here in new york once uh hal and cash [15:23] have finished whoa they're not together oh you haven't received permission to use this video in [15:30] its entirety you cannot uh obviously clips are welcomed and used frequently during these zooms so [15:37] uh with that housekeeping taken care of uh i think we'll move right to questions we'll skip over any [15:45] type of statements and uh we'll start taking questions again they are not together with boone [15:52] and we'll begin i just want to put that out there brendan cuddy leading us off from the athletic [15:57] b go ahead and unmute thank you z hal and cash thank you for the time how you're seated next to brian [16:07] cashman who has an expiring contract later aaron boone will speak to us how would you assess their [16:14] job performance this season individually well look cash is great every season i mean i think the the [16:23] roster he put together the team that we rolled out of spring training with was as good as any in [16:28] baseball in my opinion uh we had a lot of bumps and bruises along the way but um the team was [16:34] fantastic and it was a it was a world championship caliber team um i thought boone talking about this [16:40] season i thought boone managed a good season um especially with the uh the pitching staff you know [16:47] we had a lot of additions and subtractions and the rotation throughout the course of the season our [16:52] bullpen was absolutely exhausted by the end of the season you know he got through all that and he got [16:58] us to the playoffs and the bottom line is the players didn't live up to their end of the bargain in the [17:04] playoffs so i thought he had a good season i mean you know brian i'm sure has his thoughts too but [17:08] that's that's my take on it and how separately would you be in favor of a salary cap if so why or [17:16] why salary cap question i'm not gonna get i'm not gonna get into a whole lot of labor i i've said before [17:21] let me put it this way as a member of labor policy committee i helped craft one of many the proposals [17:28] that we have given at the bargaining table and i support those proposals in their entirety i mean [17:34] that's absolutely the case so that should answer your question thank you next to bruce beck bruce go [17:42] ahead yo good morning pal i know we've talked about this a bunch of times in the past but my question [17:52] is it's always been world series or bust for the yankees is that still realistic in terms of what you [18:00] expect each year or does it have to be amended now no not at all that's absolutely what we expect that [18:07] is our mission that is our goal yes we failed at the goal this year but that is always our goal [18:13] which is why we put so much effort and resources into the roster every off season to field a team [18:20] that can accomplish that and i certainly believe we had that team this year it just didn't it didn't [18:24] pan out go next to brian hoke brian for doing this um aaron judd said after the season that the [18:41] organization needs to go all in what was your reaction when you heard that yeah i did not [18:49] listen to the entire interview i was told about two or three other quotes yes uh was i upset about it no [18:56] if i was a player i would have expectations that my ownership group would do everything in their power [19:02] every off season to field a team that could win a championship uh there's nothing wrong with [19:06] expectations we did that this year we had the highest payroll in the history of the organization [19:11] you know we got to a point later in the off season where we still felt we weren't good enough [19:16] so we went out and signed bellinger to to a huge contract glad we did he's a good player yeah so i [19:22] definitely think we went all in this season i definitely think we had a team that was every [19:26] every bit capable of winning a championship no it did not work out it did not work out that's the [19:31] number one of your trigger expectations of my players you know i expect them to obey the rules to work [19:36] hard listen to their coaches and the trainers and the strength guys you know expectations are [19:41] are a good thing i mean any relationship in life is a two-way street and part of that is is you know [19:47] having expectations of each other so um no i i what i didn't wasn't bothered by it at all [19:52] you know aaron and i had a great conversation yesterday over a number of subjects as we always do [19:57] we've got some decisions that need to be made right after the world series is over essentially [20:01] and that's some we have more time on um and he's going to be a part of all that [20:05] so uh yeah that's that's the deal hey next to gary gary phillips go ahead why did they make [20:16] them take questions together thank you both for taking the time today uh since your season ended [20:21] several former members it's on zoom i don't know cc sabathia anthony rizzo joe girardi they've [20:27] criticized the organization for things like not making changes when you're not getting championship [20:32] results uh saying the organization's standards have not been upheld questioning whether there's [20:37] enough accountability in the clubhouse aaron judge and cam shall we're also talked about [20:41] accountability not meeting standards after game three i'm just curious what you both make of those [20:47] various comments and whether you feel any of those things are an issue do you feel that there needs to [20:52] be more accountability and or a culture change in the clubhouse well i'll begin uh i'm always happy [20:59] we're always happy to listen to and hear from our ex-players some are obviously more involved and [21:05] informed than others but always happy to hear what they have to say uh cash has actually talked to [21:10] a few of them so he's probably a better person to answer than than i because he's had a few [21:14] conversations sure yeah hi gary um thanks for the question so uh oh we're always open-minded uh i think [21:23] uh to to try to self-evaluate to try to find higher ground to try to attack areas that might be in [21:31] areas of perceived weakness um you know just like how it's stated i uh run to problems if there are [21:41] problems that do exist it's kind of my nature i kind of put the hard hat on and if something [21:46] something is that a miss then i'm going to try to address it or or determine whether that really is a [21:52] miss or not so i proactively made phone calls based on you know uh a lot of the commentary that's [21:58] been out there and and i'll continue to do so uh keep those conversations private i had really good [22:03] conversations um with with the people i've reached thus far uh which are multiples um and i think it's [22:11] been good healthy dialogue okay some some things i'll just share not real specific is that i don't [22:18] think when the phone was being hung up on on both sides of the of the ball and they're good healthy [22:24] dip you know diplomatic professional you know i got good i don't i just i don't have an echo i think [22:30] that's engaging with you think i just i just listen to it right now that we both agreed when the when we [22:35] hung up that none of none of which you know the commentary is we both agree is why we lost um [22:45] some healthy pointers with losing comes noise uh in the bigger markets there's a lot of noise for 17 [22:52] years man and i just kind of remind everybody um because i've obviously been a part of this for a [22:57] long time winning is hard it's extremely hard you you're talking about some great players um you know [23:05] that have been a part of things have had seen good times tough times tight clubhouses not so tight [23:13] clubhouses injuries over performance under performance all those twists and turns you know personal uh lives [23:19] that come into play okay and and they all affect you know a lot of different things along the way but [23:24] but winning is extremely hard i think those those who have a strong voice and a strong opinion even can [23:30] reflect on that too because there's you know uh there's many bites at the apple uh but there's only one [23:37] champion on the year in and year out basis and even most people with a voice uh have punched through maybe [23:42] one time only uh so you know i i'd say that the guy dialogue is good i'll always continue to have that [23:49] dialogue uh but i can share with you without this any specifics and you know i'll let you guys uh and [23:55] girls run to the discussions with whoever that they want to speak to it but my conversation was good [24:00] strong healthy but but also agreeing uh with both members on the calls that uh yeah yeah you know both [24:07] members some things on the margins who do you talk to necessarily anything that actually affects the [24:13] outcome on the game when it's pitcher versus hitter uh converting balls on defense you know uh obviously [24:19] base running what have you um those issues aren't they talk about the judge coming in those games uh [24:26] they're not affecting that aspect of our our game understanding that point do you feel that there [24:32] needs to be any sort of culture change i think we're always trying to push a strong culture we're [24:38] always trying to yes or no have those dialogues that you know we have a we're one of the very [24:44] first you know teams that incorporated the mental skills program you know it's part of you know it's [24:50] patter shows in the back you know uh how to compete how to communicate with your with the press [24:55] especially in the new york area how to communicate with your staff you know it's how okay your [24:59] manager your front office your fan base hello um how to handle injury uh you know there's so many [25:06] he hasn't blinked adversity you know oh my god obviously down and out how to handle success [25:11] you know uh and what comes with that and the responsibilities of being a major leaguer so i'd [25:15] i'd say that we're always trying to push culture uh we're always trying to find higher ground and [25:22] that's why again you know if something raises up you know uh the flagpole of hey there might be [25:28] something here let's talk about it let's address it you can the one thing i'm very proud about is that [25:34] you know right or wrong is that i think this organization is progressive we are open-minded [25:39] um okay i used the quote recently with on one somebody in an interview during the season which [25:43] is evolve or die and uh where we've made changes on the amateur scouting side of it and i think we [25:49] those have paid off so i think we're constantly challenging ourselves to evolve and adjust and grow [25:53] and that's changing personnel at times it's uh that's adopting new uh techniques techniques that [25:59] developed outside the organization and and importing it into this place and trying to give our players [26:04] every opportunity and uh take a shot year in and year out thank you guys thanks to chris uh chris [26:13] kershner sorry chris big twice hey guys thank you both um how you've uh previous you've previously [26:21] stated in the past that you would consider a cap proposal only if it came with a floor how would any [26:28] sort of cap proposal bro i don't care about the cap right now guys we're two days away from the [26:35] world series yeah this in my mind is the time to celebrate the game guys why are you guys wasting [26:41] your questions i'm talking about the cat games that were the best in their respective leagues [26:46] record-wise thank you for the super chat man i appreciate you is the manager getting back at church [26:51] calling them out i don't think so now it's not the time i'm gonna start labor conversations it just [26:57] yeah come on guys talk about the yankees here let's go labor policy committee what kind of [27:02] question is this working hard on our end we are completely focused on the task ahead of us on the [27:07] negotiating and i'm optimistic we're going to get a deal done and we're going to get a deal done [27:11] that's favorable for both sides that's really all about i say i don't want to take anything away [27:16] from what's going on right now and the excitement in the game because the world series is getting [27:20] ready to start it's just not appropriate right if you're not going to answer that another one what [27:25] changes do you feel are are necessary then for the yankees to get over the hump okay well we're [27:31] going to as as we do every year we're going to look at everything again i i believe we absolutely [27:36] had a team that was capable of winning a championship now i was disappointed quite frankly [27:41] with the offense throughout the course of the year um as a whole even though there were some [27:45] bright spots ben rice had a great year etc as a whole they were very inconsistent when it came to [27:51] run capabilities and they were inconsistent for long periods of time yo what's charming that bro [27:56] come on and win the division and as we all know winning the division is a big deal in this playoff [28:01] format so i i that's one part of the organization and the team that how to trigger joe's is basically [28:07] what this press conference is yo but this has been twice now where the offense just hasn't [28:15] lived up bro you're talking about offense offense yes but what about what about the defense and [28:19] say anything bad about the pitching staff despite the injuries um they were consistent and and [28:24] tremendous all year long and they were the reason that we made the playoffs yes in my opinion yeah so [28:29] look we're gonna look we're gonna look at everything and that includes coaching staffs [28:34] and uh everybody else but the the offense was coaches getting fired coaches you just said it [28:39] it has to be better and you know we're gonna address how to do that as best we can great joyce [28:47] greg go ahead somebody please ask about toughness have you signed a new contract yet oh great [28:54] question agreed on on uh a new uh contract that we just have to bang out some minor stuff on the [29:01] back end of it but but yeah we're we're uh we're locked and loaded and for hal what what gives you [29:07] confidence that this leadership wait how long can kind of get you over the hump despite you know some [29:12] similar finishes these last few octobers because i know how talented they are and i know how intelligent they [29:19] are and you know i've been through all these reasons before um particularly with why i think [29:25] that boone given all of the managerial duties there are especially playing in new york uh is a good [29:31] manager and i've certainly been through the reasons why i think cash is a good manager a good leader of his [29:36] people um a good listener and uh i i very intelligent and i i don't have any doubt that you know this we're [29:45] okay with this leadership group i understand the whole buck stops here thing i get it i absolutely [29:50] understand that we are okay with the leadership group have to look and try to figure out every [29:55] year including this year what exactly the problem really was and no you don't want to talk about [30:02] injuries but look losing stanton and losing judge for 80 plus percent of the season [30:07] there we go and it certainly had an effect there we go hold on figure out how much of it was that [30:18] it's been brought up about clubhouse culture as three gifted it's been brought up we're going to look [30:22] into it uh we want to we want to be as close to perfect as we can be down there and um but i i'm [30:29] certain i'm confident the leadership group it's use the injuries this year the offensive performance just [30:35] hal's opinion uh really was detrimental to accomplishing you know numerous things including [30:41] the ultimate goal of winning a championship and we're going to be looking into it disha disha go [30:49] ahead and unmute please hi hal um just what led to your decision to partner with the private equity firm [30:57] um apollo global management is that a precursor to fully selling the team oh [31:03] shit uh no it is not a precursor to fully selling the team we want the whole goal of the apollo deal [31:09] was to bring in capital into the company um that would be there for us to give us more financial [31:16] stability for years and years to come including the years when i'm out of here and the third generation [31:22] is running the team i mean they came in fully understanding this uh they came in as limited [31:27] partners with rights no different than any of other limited partners uh which could be unusual [31:33] for private equity firm but they felt that strongly about being a part of the organization okay so [31:38] no it is not a precursor to selling the team uh it it's all about creating financial stability [31:44] um for both me and my sisters into the third generation years and years to come that that was [31:51] the purpose of the deal how much of a role are they playing in the just in the day-to-day operations [31:56] of the team zero again they have no they have rights no different than our other limited partners [32:02] um you know at al who's the head of this one particular fund is a member of the yg board now [32:07] yankee global board and he's a very very intelligent guy so i expect to have a lot of conversations with [32:12] them as i do with some of our other partners but zero rights zero control of day-to-day operations [32:18] nothing whatsoever okay thank you yeah go next to it looks like they answered a lot of questions [32:25] and they need yeah please hey um has aaron boone received the contract extension i have not talked [32:34] to aaron about a contract extension no would you like to give him one oh that's something i it's [32:40] something i i would certainly consider i would consider anything we don't we don't normally do [32:44] extensions as you well know it's somewhat of a rarity for us but all i can tell you right now [32:49] it's it's nothing nothing that's been discussed with him about that we've had conversations [32:55] but that was not one of them did you consider moving on from aaron oh i have never considered [33:01] moving on from aaron aaron is our captain and a huge part of the team and a huge part of the [33:05] leadership of the clubhouse and obviously arguably the best hitter at all of baseball so i mean i mean [33:11] aaron boone oh yes look oh every year situation again i don't think wrong everybody you can wrong [33:23] and the unacceptable end to it on aaron i don't think you can pin it on him based on the roster [33:30] he put together again i had the offense not the pitching but the offense had a big part of why we [33:38] in my opinion why we didn't get and i don't mind saying it why we didn't get where we [33:41] you know strive to get every year and we're certainly striving to get this year i don't [33:46] know what he would think that was during the whole the whole year he said are we watching him ski [33:50] it's the two starting boston pitchers and their performance against probably all the raised pitchers [33:56] uh it was it was just it was just not good i mean i don't know how else to put it and if you don't [34:02] score runs you're not going to win we all know that so um again but yes every year including this year [34:08] we had a week-long conversation about aaron boone and it wasn't part of the problem this year and uh [34:16] you know i i don't believe he was i think he had a good year managing wise and you know maybe cash can [34:22] speak to it i don't know um but yes i i would consider of course moving on from aaron boone if i thought [34:29] he was a huge part of the problem and i could certainly without mentioning names point out to other [34:33] managers of other clubs that have been part of the problem what the what the hell is that i just [34:40] don't believe that's the case what was that who got astray um is this a personnel player who's he [34:46] giving shade to a cool issue a coaching issue how do you guys no that's what we're gonna look into [34:54] we're gonna definitely look to see if it's a it's a coaching issue philosophical issue why haven't we [34:58] looked into it already the players that we had you know some of them just underperformed you know they [35:03] didn't live up definitely talking about the bats and again it was inconsistency that lasted oh my [35:09] god and you know you win the division and it's it's a it's a slightly different scenario than if [35:14] you're you know playing a wild card series i mean that's just a fact so we're gonna we're gonna look [35:19] at everything i mean i wish i could be more specific about answering the question but i mean that's [35:23] why we're gonna spend time to look into it um because it wasn't you know it wasn't just a one-year [35:28] deal it's been you know it's two years now and i'm seeing some of the same things and right the same [35:33] things what happened is hitting coach james james rousson returning we haven't even started those [35:38] discussions yet but i'm going to look at all the coaching i'm going to look at all the coaching [35:42] like i do every year and yes i'm definitely i've definitely focused on the on the offense and on [35:46] the hitting because i again i'll say it for the last time i i think it was a big part of you know [35:52] certainly a significant part of why we didn't achieve what we wanted to achieve so it sounds like [35:56] rawson is getting the ass that's what it sounds like ian thanks jason uh how you said in the past [36:07] that it's always justified to ask you about your approach compared to your father's because he was [36:12] one of the great greatest at what he did uh just given that a big part of his leadership style involved [36:18] public accountability and criticism of players which is something you've done on occasion including today [36:24] i'm just curious are you considering doing that more often as a way of motivating your players and [36:31] and if not why not yeah i i'm not convinced that with this team in this day and age that that's as [36:40] big of a motivator as you think it is um 20 25 years ago different generation different just a different [36:46] different scenario michael it's not you could you could bring it up on your own if you want but if i'm [36:52] going to analyze what happened during the season then i'm going to call out you know where i believe [36:57] the problems are irregardless of who it is and you know what what role they play in the organization or [37:02] on the team but just given that your manager is not one to do that very often is it possible it would [37:11] serve as a public deterrent for your players is when they're underperforming if they hear it from [37:17] from their boss from you directly right talk to them uh i'm not convinced that it would no i'm not [37:23] convinced that it would you know they they the public forum is it's just not how i operate i [37:29] mean if if i've got a problem with them i'm in the clubhouse you know every homestand for one or two [37:35] games i'm going to pull them aside and i'm going to talk to them or cash is going to talk to them or [37:40] aaron's going to talk to them both aaron's either aaron um that's the way i want to do it the public [37:46] forum it's just uh you're right my dad and i are different in that respect i'm not convinced it would [37:51] be effective anyway and it's just not the way i'm going to i'm going to operate i'm going to [37:55] i'm going to talk to them face to face make you have any you want to add to that or no i don't [38:01] disagree with how i think you know you use the public forum i think and earlier in this zoom [38:06] accountability came up quite a lot it's noise we all know it's noisy out there uh you know it's very [38:13] noisy and understandably so because you know our fans you know want a championship you know the media [38:20] obviously you know uh you know is the conduit to our fan base to try to figure out you know [38:26] you know the good and the bad and and um but i don't disagree with how i feel like the there's a [38:34] built-in accountability you know to the extreme you know uh that's that's around us every day you know [38:44] and to then contribute to that by publicly you know uh putting even further pressure chasing a large media [38:52] core and fan base and social media into somebody's locker as they're trying to navigate and get out [38:58] of a slump or play better or stop making errors uh or you know stop you know poor base running [39:06] circumstances that have happened every now and then or more more than they should it's just inviting [39:14] you know more likely outcome of not getting what you want um but to house point i can assure you uh [39:21] because it's always questioned are anybody trying to address this are these players being spoken to [39:26] uh are we confronting those problems i think in a more private setting in a more direct setting [39:31] is the more appropriate way uh versus a public letting and um anyway that's so i don't disagree [39:39] with how i just think uh i think that's the the most professional way to handle it straight on [39:44] uh and inviting you know everybody to participate participating already in a different way you know is is [39:51] unnecessary team is embarrassing really publicly hey there uh this is a question for brian brian as [40:03] you have watched the rays and the brewers perform throughout this postseason and the way that their [40:11] style of play has allowed them to succeed how often have you paused and say i wish the yankees were [40:17] better at that something that those two teams did because we know that this is a copycat sport yeah i mean it's [40:26] definitely uh you know they played clean baseball you know uh that's the one thing you know you stress [40:31] going into postseason you got to play your best at all times we did against boston we didn't against [40:37] tampa um and yeah you know it's about personnel too uh everybody utilizing their skill set and the [40:46] manager being able to take advantage of that skill set when when called upon whether it's you know uh [40:51] you know obviously more current there's a lot of athleticism on on the field in in you know the [41:00] position player roster group that plays on both sides of the ball i feel like we over the time over the [41:05] last number of years of you know tried to address our athleticism our defense our base running you know uh [41:12] skill set you know with with obviously guys that can can take the extra bag and uh or steal a lot of bases and [41:19] so i think we've we've tried to steer in that direction um and we'll continue to try to steer in [41:26] that direction at the same time i you know obviously clearly contact is always a big important aspect [41:31] in today's game uh but at the same time you don't lose sight side of the team that out homers the [41:36] opposing team in each playoff series is the one that moves on um so slug is important too so the the best [41:43] and simple equation still happens to be pitching and defense uh and timely hitting in the postseason [41:50] um you know slug is obviously a real important aspect um but yeah you're always you know you i [41:57] think you use the word copycat league there's always a cop there's always something we're trying [42:01] that's why i talked to and alluded to earlier about being open-minded to whatever changes could be [42:07] necessary but then you know what's available in the marketplace you know what's available in the trade [42:12] marketplace what's the availability in the free agent marketplace what's the flexibility in the [42:16] payroll uh when those availabilities do come what's coming up through your system that you've got to [42:22] lean into you believe can you know maybe allow you to find the higher ground with a good under [42:28] controllable player some have punched through and really been you know performers others their timeline [42:35] looks like it might be longer but until you give them those opportunities and runways you don't know so [42:41] um you know that's it's the journey and uh you know we're we're going to continue that journey now [42:48] in 2027 and see if we can push through it's the fucking odyssey that's what it is when your season [42:54] ended judge was not a player for you can you give us an update on his status and what your expectations [43:01] are for 2027 whether he has had to have anything done uh medically in the offseason yeah we uh we did [43:09] exit interviews with everybody obviously including aaron judge uh he he was not available to us in [43:14] the postseason there was no you know there was no willy-nilliness over that you know he just wasn't [43:20] physically able to to post for us so so uh because of the uh calf uh in terms of the rib um we did the exit [43:31] interviews exit uh uh physicals and um that all came out fine for us and we had we do have a follow-up [43:39] with the specialist dr pearl that has to take place still okay uh just uh to be certain because [43:46] that's the expert in this field um and then once he weighs in we'll have you know that all firmed up [43:51] one way or the other but as of right now we feel like we're in a good place and and uh you know he [43:57] can take advantage of the rest of the winter um and uh and be ready to go when spring training starts [44:03] thank you okay thanks to eric boland ashman talks in these word salads that i'm just like okay now [44:14] fair or not the perception among much of the public certainly the fan base is that as long as the seats [44:22] are filled at yankee stadium as long as people are watching on the yes network that you will define that [44:28] given season as a success regardless of whether it ends with a world series or not is that a fair [44:36] perception does that perception bother you so i have i have never suggested that a season like this [44:44] season is a success uh i am often asked was the entire season a failure winning 93 games is not a [44:52] failure i mean making playing in the division series is not a failure oh boy it became a failure [44:58] because we did not do well so what have i ever called a season success no i don't believe i've [45:04] ever put a season that we didn't win a world championship in successful but at the same time [45:09] i'm not going to say that everything that happened in that season hence the entire season was a complete [45:13] failure i mean that's that's just the way i i perceive things oh okay go next to uh joel sherman what's all [45:23] that mean thanks uh how you mentioned that you'll deal with things privately with players as opposed [45:32] to publicly can you give us an example or two of times you dealt with players and how that went and [45:38] if you think they reacted well joel sherman i'm not going to give you specific examples no but uh you [45:43] know if if if it's not cashman or aaron that i feel can handle it then i will do exactly what i said and [45:51] you know i will explain to the player you know what needs to change you know why we're concerned about [45:57] this and and look i right or wrong i mean just say you talk to jobs normally very positive you know [46:04] maybe it's because i'm the owner i i don't know but um believe me when i tell you things like that [46:09] have been addressed before and you know it's part of when aaron and i judge and i have regular [46:15] conversations you know we're talking about a lot of that stuff and if it's something about him that [46:22] bothers me then he's he's going to hear it he's going to hear it for me and i would hope vice versa [46:27] quite frankly that's the kind of relationship with my captain that i would like to have but no [46:32] i'm not going to give you joel specific examples you you you did mention again on this i think to [46:36] bruce beck's question uh that it's like you're still a championship robust organization multiple [46:42] times you've said you haven't okay uh you don't think you need a 300 million dollar payroll to win [46:47] certainly the two teams in the world series are showing that and yet you authorize over a 300 [46:52] million dollar payroll every year and you don't win what why do you then keep giving it wouldn't [46:57] that be a reflection on the people you've hired to get you spending the 300 million dollars get the [47:04] final uh level you want you know this better than me because you've been around a long time [47:12] there's a lot of things that happen during the course all i can do all i can do and all he can do [47:19] is have a team rolling into tampa spring training that we know is capable of winning a championship [47:24] and whether it's like some of the other teams that have considerably more younger players or whether [47:29] it's teams that have considerably older more veteran uh highly paid players we're kind of a mix of both [47:35] this year i think um there's a lot that has to go right to win a championship and there's a lot that [47:41] can go wrong uh that can certainly make that task i can't put up the videos volume all i can do in the [47:47] off season i don't feel the team's gonna be good enough i i think my family's proven this time and [47:52] time again um we're gonna we're gonna go the extra mile to to get the cody bell and to get the bellinger [47:59] or to get the max freed or whoever it is i mean that's that's my job and i'm gonna do that this [48:04] offseason it's not going to be any different um you know i i think we've seen what what what did [48:11] excite me about this year is some of the younger players that came up and and really contributed [48:16] pop this is my stream what you want me to do you know for the future uh players you know i gotta [48:22] be able to stay healthier we'll be higher you know they can be faster and um you know it's good to [48:28] see that we're starting to accomplish you know there was a lot of trade deadlines and we traded away [48:32] some players um i think we had a really good trade deadline this year and uh you know we weren't [48:38] about to give up any of the the lombards of the world or the schlitlers of the world so i mean i'm [48:44] optimistic i'm optimistic about about the young players and i because i think it adds a dynamic [48:49] to the overall club and uh i think it adds one could even argue a hunger to the club athleticism [48:55] to the club so um i'm hoping and i believe we're going to continue to see that with you know players [49:01] like lagrange and and other players that hopefully we'll see next year and cash i wonder if i could just [49:06] ask you something directly on this is obviously your job mainly is to make sure you have a team that [49:11] could win the 90 plus whatever to try to win the division and get into the postseason over the [49:17] years have you developed any thoughts on is there such a thing as making a team more bulletproof for [49:23] a postseason yeah uh and if so i wonder what you think it is and how to apply it i mean obviously the [49:32] first step in the process is making sure you can punch a ticket and get there and then everything [49:37] it re is gets reset you know the rosters in each level are different you know obviously our roster for [49:42] we're in the wild card series we didn't need as much pitching and it was a much deeper position [49:46] player group and a lot of matchups obviously you know i just think you need to have as many talented [49:54] players as you possibly can on both sides of the ball you need you know as much elite bullpen you need [49:59] as much elite starters you need that can go deep for you that can carry the day because that neutralizes [50:04] the opposing teams i think this year's team had a lot of that um you know obviously a very offensive [50:12] uh athletic team on that's you know that can convert into outs on the on the defensive side [50:18] it just i know i don't have a magic bullet you know other than every year each year's team is [50:26] different you know some radically different some you know uh on the margins um you know players come [50:34] and go you know whether it's free agency or trades uh but so we're always trying to attack the [50:41] areas of weakness and keep the strength the strengths but unfortunately that's you know it's [50:45] that's a changing you know world on a year in a year out basis you know some of the players that we [50:50] were able to count on the last few years you know weren't available to be counted on as much this year [50:55] whether it's injuries or unexpected underperformance but then we had other players you know obviously [51:00] rise to the occasion and step up and kind of you know how alluded to you know i don't think people [51:06] saw you know luis garcia coming in on the trade deadline because he didn't necessarily fit the [51:10] profile but we added offense the best we could with what was available in the marketplace so he [51:15] he obviously impacted us in a positive way and gave our manager more choices as we move forward [51:20] and he'll have us more choices as we move forward now but magic bullet i don't have a magic bullet for [51:26] you um the magic bullet is just to try to add as many collected talented um hungry uh players that [51:36] are all willing to push in the right direction for a championship and and be part of a team rather [51:41] than you know an individual that cares only about themselves what about the yankee standard man well [51:47] next to john hayman john please unmute thank you jason this for how um no one would claim that aaron [51:57] boot's not a good manager he's won 58 of his games and has made the postseason eight out of nine years [52:03] but but how you did say that the mission is to win the world series and that is the goal so he didn't [52:10] meet the mission or match the goal for nine straight years and even said that it's not a success unless you [52:18] win the world series um so it's been nine years what what went into the decision you said you you [52:23] considered for a week uh what to do on the manager front uh what went into that decision why did you decide [52:29] to retain aaron boone and did the did the lockout the unavailability of candidates or his own contract [52:36] way at all and into that decision yeah yeah i'm not going to get into the john but the dozens and [52:42] dozens of things that we talked about concerning this topic and i i i feel bad about repeating myself [52:49] but the the question i had to analyze to me did he manage well this season did he manage the team well [52:55] this season i think the answer is yes you know when you look at the subpar as it is season you'll be [53:04] that certainly ended in an unacceptable way is he really responsible you know i'm not going to make [53:10] a change just to make a change i mean some clubs made changes and they i'm guessing they had their [53:15] reasons in the end the majority of the responsibility i'll say it for the fifth time in my mind my opinion [53:23] lies with the position players and the the inability to score on a consistent basis throughout the course [53:29] of the entire season for the most part not not on the shoulders of aaron boone does the blame lie [53:37] thank you it looks like we have maybe five or so uh people who haven't had a chance to ask a question [53:47] get through everyone but we're we're not going to double down and start um out of fairness to everybody on [53:53] the call so we'll we'll we'll get through these five or six questions which will probably push us [53:58] real close to 11 30 and then we'll have aaron boone uh dave lennon you're up next please unmute hey [54:08] hal and cash um one of the how one of the young players that you mentioned is a real future of this [54:13] organization cam schlittler said after a very sloppy game two loss to the rays that it seemed like they [54:19] didn't really show up um you know cam's only been here for two years but he's a pretty straight shooter [54:24] um what does that speak to i mean does that worry you when really one of the young pillars of this [54:31] team is concerned about a team showing up for a playoff game does that point to something wrong come [54:38] october great question preparation thing whether it's a management thing it just seemed to be a [54:44] very you know big red flag about what was going on with the team at the time well as we know cam is [54:49] a hardcore competitor it's one of the things we love about him that's a conversation i want to have [54:52] with him quite frankly and of course judge and uh you know it's you're you're giving you're giving me [54:58] a quote it's it's it's the quote didn't they have exit interviews tell me why he thinks that [55:05] what makes him believe that and you know that's what i that's what i will certainly get to the bottom [55:09] of uh we want to be going into the postseason we want to be going into every game hungry absolutely [55:15] hungry and you asked me if it's concerning that yeah of course it's concerning and because it's been [55:21] brought up we're gonna we're gonna look into it but i gotta find out why what what he means what [55:26] made him feel that way you know i can't sit here and answer you right now on that and cast just as [55:32] kind of an aside to that you mentioned that winning is hard and and you guys have done an extremely good [55:36] job of winning during the regular season come october is it is it a type of player that you're missing [55:43] like an edge that can handle that type of increased pressure or is it something that you guys look at [55:48] you know in the front office and how you guys prepare for these playoff games that kind of just [55:53] needs to go under the microscope big time for the next time around okay i think we always do the [55:58] microscope we try to uh and uh and i think going back to your cam comment i don't know this is my [56:05] suspicion is that cam was just making a comment reflection of how poorly we played that day [56:11] you know we didn't show up we played like crap we didn't you know execute you know all of that would [56:16] apply it doesn't it i don't think there's meaning behind it that no one tried no one cared no one [56:23] prepared but i think we show up to a playoff commentary is more of a catch-all of like listen [56:29] after a game we lost we didn't play well we didn't clearly earn it we didn't show up and uh you know but [56:37] to your point earlier we showed up against boston same preparation same personnel uh just the week [56:44] earlier that's why i say baseball is hard because every day it's different every day you know you [56:50] know one play can cascade into something else and you know we were you know perfect for two days in the [56:58] wild card series against extremely formidable team and then in a uh you know a few days later in a very [57:06] extremely formidable team we do the workout at the trop you know before game one um you know our guys are [57:13] feeling strong and ready to go they obviously had their normal pre-game prep as they did before game [57:18] one and then you know obviously lined up for game two and and it didn't didn't happen for us for a [57:26] lot of different reasons and and again you know it goes back to you have to be consistently playing [57:32] you know your best baseball on all sides of the ball you're going to be sent home uh or be in jeopardy [57:36] being sent home that's what happened that day so i i i guess but to answer your question we're [57:43] always going to be looking regardless so if there's a microscope necessary we'll constantly look at it [57:48] if i do think our players are prepared i do think they are wired the right way they care every year [57:54] it's different and then you know you got to put them in a you know uh that and every day you play [58:00] it's a new environment with um so the environment in tampa um we did not perform you know uh and we're [58:08] guilty of that and we have to fight figure it out if that's because some it was too big for the uh the [58:14] moment was too big for him at that moment in time or or it's just that stuff can happen this is the [58:20] team you put together tough ground ball you don't convert it um you know and you make a a mental [58:26] mistake um one thing i do say is i i know it gets noisy out there and in the post-game commentary [58:34] a lot gets made of what players say or if they double down on a base running play or something [58:38] like that i just i just i don't i wouldn't want to convict people of of literally you know not [58:44] having areas being discussed or addressed uh or them honestly being believing that that's what [58:51] is the right way to go i think playing against great competitions tough and also bringing your a [58:57] game in the clubhouse after tough losses or making mistakes you know that's also tough to do too and [59:03] and uh i know we're uh you know we try to help our players through that and you know um i think [59:09] obviously when given an opportunity to redo something after the fact with the time to it that [59:14] they recognize that they made mistakes and and if they could have done something differently they [59:18] would have but our coaches our manager our players are all part of it and uh and trying to learn from [59:23] it and grow from it and but unfortunately our job is to try to limit mistakes and if not they get [59:29] exasperated especially in october okay so thank you guys we'll take the last three in q last three [59:36] bob clapish hi how hi brian this question is for how and i just wanted to follow up on a point you [59:45] made to joel's question aren't you sick of every october having to explain why you guys haven't won [59:52] thank you shouldn't you have had at least one championship since 2009 yes i would have hoped [59:58] we've had multiple championships since 2009 yes uh do i like sitting here something i will always do [1:00:04] of course but do i like it trying to explain why and you know make what you might see as excuses no of [1:00:10] course i don't like it but i am going to analyze in a very objective way we are going to analyze in a [1:00:16] very objective way what we think went wrong and you know if we haven't had the same roster every single [1:00:21] year uh we haven't had the same coaches every single year you did last year we've made changes [1:00:27] and as he said winning a championship is very difficult a lot has to go right you know and [1:00:34] the less it goes wrong the better but you know yes of course i'm upset sitting here and have to [1:00:40] have to answer these questions absolutely and i i know how upset our fans are but believe me we're [1:00:45] going to be doing everything we can and if if that means making changes in personnel or in players [1:00:50] players then then we will uh there's not much more i don't believe that i can do than than that [1:00:56] then to provide the resources to to put together a team that i really believe can win a championship [1:01:02] this is crazy we had some serious setbacks losing judge for most of the season stanton oh my god the [1:01:09] team we left spring training with i i believe had a very very good chance of winning a championship even [1:01:14] before we got the likes of garrett coleback which we knew we would uh it was a tremendous team and it [1:01:20] was a well put together team i think it was a fairly balanced team you know you lose two big [1:01:25] right-handed bats that's a lot of home runs uh it hurt us um some might see me you know as making [1:01:32] excuses by saying that but it is a fact no uh it certainly didn't help the situation to make the [1:01:37] situation and the mission any any easier but nonetheless even without those two guys i just feel [1:01:43] there's there's guys in the offense that didn't play up to their potential and you know they just needed to [1:01:48] do i has no problem blaming the players significant parts of the year and less be less problem blaming [1:01:56] the people that got the players less problem blaming the people uh brian uh coming off what [1:02:04] was essentially a lost year for john carlos stanton just uh how do you view his status moving into the [1:02:10] final guaranteed year of his contract and do you have to rethink some things uh regarding the dh situation [1:02:16] next year uh he's finished the season healthy um so he enters the winter healthy um and obviously [1:02:24] we know what he's capable of when he is healthy you know uh so you know we we look forward to seeing [1:02:34] if we can deploy a healthy version of him next year um but obviously that dh spot is also available [1:02:42] or up for grabs as well you know for you know other people that benefit from it at the same time and [1:02:47] we'll have those kind of conversations but subscribe to the channel too uh i can tell you this you know i [1:02:52] i think you and the media uh knows as well g's a very um accountable responsible uh wired correctly [1:03:03] professional athlete you know it destroyed him that he wasn't available to us um to try to help us [1:03:11] impact us in a positive way for most of the run this year and and he he continues to fight through it [1:03:17] uh as someone who you know is wired right should and he he is wired right his leadership in there is [1:03:27] not his care factor is not in question it's just obviously you know keeping him on the field so he [1:03:33] can help us you know in that win column is has been you know obviously it was a huge problem for us [1:03:39] especially in 2026 but uh he finished the season healthy and i can't tell you how this roster is going [1:03:45] to shake out as we enter this winter and and assess what's available to us um you know uh but i [1:03:52] certainly hope he becomes a legitimate choice once again on a consistent basis for aaron boone to [1:03:59] to play with uh when he tries to put lineups together on a daily basis uh you know from april all the way [1:04:05] through so um but we'll see take a final question from chelsea james chelsea it's not even 11 30 uh [1:04:17] thank you both for for all the time um i think this question is for brian but you know hal if you [1:04:22] have anything um please feel free you brian you mentioned you know you you want guys in there that [1:04:27] are hungry and um not caring just about themselves and i'm curious if you felt like you guys were [1:04:33] working around a few outliers that maybe met that description this year and if so how hard is it to [1:04:38] build a team to vet appropriately you know when you're acquiring players to make sure that you are [1:04:43] having you know a clubhouse and a 40 man full of guys like that yeah i don't i i think i i think [1:04:49] i've come across those type of players along the way i don't think that was something that we had [1:04:56] going on with this year's clubhouse or team you know i'd say every year you have players that like [1:05:02] each other more than others that those type of dynamics always exist you're in the you've been [1:05:07] covering the clubhouses you know for a period of time and so you you know in each clubhouse you're in who [1:05:12] those are and who you know who likes each other more than others and stuff like that and who goes [1:05:16] to dinner and who doesn't and you know you know so the main that that's normal you know uh in life [1:05:23] whether it's a clubhouse a front office uh businesses or or your family dynamics um but you know as long as [1:05:31] you guys put tomatoes in the chat that are obviously super talented and their compete factor is off the [1:05:37] chart and they're ready to go and doing the right thing tomatoes and you know when it comes you know play [1:05:41] ball by the umpire you know that's what that's our intent and interest of having that type of [1:05:46] collection of the players recognizing injuries are going to occur i think i agree with how like yeah [1:05:51] we we lost some important players along the way other teams do too um and i still think despite not [1:05:58] having judge or stanton for periods of time you know or or even in the most important time we still were [1:06:04] capable um you know and could have found a way and uh but credit to the rays you know our american league [1:06:11] rep not you know that uh lined up in the world series with the the brewers credit to them and [1:06:16] the brewers for the seasons they've had to put themselves to to obviously win the regular season [1:06:21] with the records they has the best record in both leagues and then now obviously navigate the post [1:06:25] season to honor that regular season record to then navigate a post season to get there uh to be the [1:06:30] best records on both sides uh to meet in the world series you know um exciting times because [1:06:37] somebody's going to be crowned a new champion for the first time ever in their franchise's history [1:06:41] um so but i think to answer your question i don't think we had you know um selfish somebody selfish in [1:06:51] there that took away from what we're trying to accomplish uh we had a lot especially in the end [1:06:55] with with the injuries and stuff we had a lot of mixing and matching you know that i think aaron [1:06:59] boone had a lot of choices he could make we could line up you saw in the boston series against the [1:07:03] left-handed starter um with a right-handed lineup and then a right hand with the right-handed starter [1:07:08] in game two he had a lot of people line up with left-handed lineup and any of that comes with bruising [1:07:13] egos and tough conversations that our manager wasn't afraid to have and and people have to you know [1:07:19] suck it up accept it what have you it doesn't mean they agree with it but that's that's true in [1:07:23] every team you know and that's that's never going to change um you know you're taking a ball from [1:07:28] a starter earlier than he wants to come out of the game we're taking going to a reliever that uh [1:07:33] somebody else feels like that that's their lane and you know those twists and turns are happening [1:07:37] regular season and postseason at all times and i know our managers lined up for that and prepared [1:07:42] for those tough conversations and i don't think we have players that don't recognize that they might [1:07:46] not agree with things at times you know like anywhere else but uh but i don't think we had anybody [1:07:51] who was selfish that helped take us down it's we just didn't play well enough time during the [1:07:56] tampa series and they earned it five second question we didn't bring eight minutes they did [1:08:02] that's why they're where they're at and the one thing i would add because you mentioned the word [1:08:07] uh we're going to ask as many people as many questions as we can you know and try to get an [1:08:12] understanding of any player that we bring into our clubhouse we do always have a more veteran clubhouse [1:08:19] than other teams and i think some players that maybe struggled in other clubhouses uh you know tend to [1:08:27] tend to do well in ours quite frankly but the one wild card that cannot be denied [1:08:32] is no matter how much vetting you do it's still playing in new york city it's still playing for our [1:08:38] fans it just feels like the pressure it is a different animal than the vast majority of other [1:08:48] cities in my opinion and it's just kind of the wild card that you do the best you can vetting super [1:08:54] your obsession but um you know there's been years when players just haven't worked out in this in [1:09:00] this environment so thanks al brian thanks for the time uh we appreciate it everybody uh enjoy the rest [1:09:09] of your day down south uh everybody stand by stay on all right so boone is going to join us pretty soon [1:09:16] um this that was awful that was awful um brian sitting with hal says a lot in the in the way of [1:09:31] it says a lot of like they are united uh with what's going on so once i seen that that they were going to [1:09:43] take the questions together at the same time i already knew what time it was and then i'm just interested [1:09:52] because i thought it was just going to be zoom or whatever they're doing zoom in tampa okay whatever [1:09:58] they're doing zoom in tampa you couldn't get boone down there to zoom in tampa you couldn't tell the [1:10:04] media that you guys are going to do the media stuff in tampa you know for the press conference you decided [1:10:09] to do a zoom okay whatever um the zoom just allows you to be able to do what they did which is oh we're [1:10:16] going to hurry along questions you're not going to allow to have too many follow-ups and that's exactly [1:10:22] what they did on to the next year right now boone is taking these questions at yankee stadium but not [1:10:31] in front of the press conference not in front of the press through another zoom and it's like [1:10:38] what's this about you know what i mean like that's weird that's weird to me because now you got them [1:10:43] in two separate places taking the press conference what's that about right a couple of things that i came [1:10:49] away with number one joe sherman year ago all right for him to be like yo you ever think that the [1:10:55] problem is not with the players but how about the people that's the person that's getting the players [1:11:04] and the motherfucker sitting right next to him like he's like yo yo what's good with that like [1:11:08] why are you talking about that it's been 17 years and one dude has been a constant here like has there [1:11:15] been a oh no i still think it's on the player he how has no problem blaming the players but he doesn't [1:11:26] blame ever doesn't hold the front office accountable for putting the team together he doesn't ever hold [1:11:35] his management team he's okay for holding hold on let me say this he's okay for holding the coaching [1:11:42] staff accountable but not the manager you know and maybe this is a way of holding the manager accountable [1:11:51] or starting to hold the manager accountable one did not extend this contract is keeping him on this [1:11:58] lame duck season or whatever you call it he's how he's taking this interview or this press conference [1:12:03] by himself um they evaluated they talked about how they evaluated for a whole week whether they should [1:12:10] make a a changing a manager or not if you got to sit there and evaluate for a whole week i don't care [1:12:16] how much time you tell me i have the utmost confidence in this guy at the end of the day you had to [1:12:21] deliberate for a whole week whether you should keep this mouth out or not i mean let's call a spade a [1:12:27] spade um yes um i'm posting this live stream yes so let's call a spade a spade right so that's what [1:12:38] i see in there so it looks like there's like a separating in that sense right um they did hint at [1:12:46] changing the coaching staff they said this team was capable of winning a world series what team did they [1:12:51] watch what are we talking about this team was capable of winning a world series after what you [1:12:57] seen after the embarrassment that they had in the alds after the raise basically like you guys are a 93 [1:13:05] win team in the race how many wins did they win 96 this didn't look like a team that there's like three [1:13:10] wins different no it's a big time it was a big time difference i don't know what they're talking about [1:13:16] when it comes to that he did mention the payroll i owe you guys what is it three gifted for the using the [1:13:22] the judge injury not only as an excuse once but multiple times throughout the whole thing he even [1:13:28] threw stanton in there um he said cashman said uh that stanton was a healthy player at the end of the [1:13:35] season which is not true he could not run he could not run that doesn't make any sense if he was a [1:13:40] healthy player you should have started so i don't know what we're talking about uh uh here we go i do you [1:13:46] guys think that how held people accountable and showed showed anger do i owe you guys five gifted for [1:13:52] that i don't think so they didn't say it was a crap shoot they didn't say unlucky uh brian and joel [1:14:00] did not get into a confrontation but he basically said yo is this dude's fault or whatever it is i [1:14:06] wish he would have had more chances to ask questions people out there asking about the [1:14:10] fucking the salary cap and shit like it's so weird um internet and audio was good nobody asked why it was [1:14:17] a zoom so nothing we didn't get we said that there is a cashman contract extension they didn't say for [1:14:24] how much and we this is obviously not cashman's last year from what they're talking about let's [1:14:30] see what you guys are saying and if you guys can again make sure you guys spam the like on youtube [1:14:37] just go into the video just like the video uh if you guys can it helps a lot um for what we're doing [1:14:44] and helps push the algorithm as well we got seven we got 824 people in here and 130 likes so there's [1:14:51] something off with that like you know what i mean like help me help you help me uh boone is on not [1:15:00] on they're not not on yes i don't see him on yes they got this ac milan shit yeah they haven't updated [1:15:15] it yet now boone hasn't had his interview yet i don't know maybe they're on a delay i don't know [1:15:23] oh there he goes he's starting questions for aaron using the raise hand function function guys i'm going [1:15:29] to talk because this is what my like i'm going to react to what they're saying so i'm not going to [1:15:33] just stay quiet okay greg joyce go ahead and unmute please aaron i know that you've had a couple weeks [1:15:42] to kind of digest what what happened in in the playoffs what do you kind of feel is the reason [1:15:47] why you guys haven't been able to get over the hump here yeah i mean again as i talked about even going [1:15:52] through the playoffs if you feel that way people believe you know there's years where to say you know i feel [1:15:58] like we've been at times throughout the year the best team or one of the very best teams in baseball [1:16:04] and you get to the finish line and you're not quite that same team uh certainly felt like we had a team [1:16:11] capable of making a deep run and winning it all but ultimately you know got beat um you know um you [1:16:20] know i think at different times this year you know we the run scoring was was was a challenge for us um [1:16:27] um and and proved to be a challenge in the in the tampa series too so um you know i felt like in the [1:16:35] red sox series maybe played our our best baseball at any time all year and then um you know got shut [1:16:41] down unfortunately uh in three games with with the rays a very obviously a great one does look sad and [1:16:48] in the still going in a great season so um you know the ending always obviously hurts um um but [1:17:00] you know that's that's what that's being in the arena unfortunately there only there's one happy [1:17:05] team at the end of the year and um you know that that's what we're working hard to continue to get [1:17:11] back to that point um now you go into the off season um try and make the adjustments to your team um [1:17:19] that puts you in a position to go to spring training with an outstanding team and what i expect to to [1:17:24] be another team capable of making a long run but you got to navigate a long season and get to the [1:17:30] finish line uh and go into the postseason playing your best baseball so uh unfortunately that didn't [1:17:36] happen for us again i'll repeatedly mention the offense as well do you expect to make any changes [1:17:42] to your staff with with the hitting group whether that's james roussen or anything there um [1:17:48] again as hal said excuse me um you know we have a number of coaches that are you know on expiring [1:17:54] contracts some that are you know coming back um i think we have a great coaching staff i think james [1:18:02] leads a great hitting group um i've been really impressed with the culture that he's created year [1:18:07] in and year out um over the last few seasons um so there's there's a lot of reasons that go into [1:18:15] um you know why there's underperformance in in certain areas of the club and and you try and [1:18:21] address those all as best you can um and and saddle back up and and take it take your shot at it next [1:18:28] year so i know those are all conversations that have to happen within the organization okay [1:18:35] brown hook uh when you look at the two teams that are still going as you mentioned milwaukee and tampa [1:18:46] bay yeah what strikes you most about the way they're able to do things and do you guys need [1:18:51] to incorporate some of that yeah um well i know when we played milwaukee and it was very early in [1:18:57] the season i came away thinking that's the best team we've played um um and what the rays were able to [1:19:04] do this year was certainly impressive um you know i think you're always trying to incorporate the best of [1:19:11] anything and and i think what stands out about those two clubs especially is their athleticism [1:19:16] um you know and and that's something that as an organization we've tried to address um over the [1:19:24] last few years and i think to some success have gotten more and more athletic over the last couple of [1:19:31] seasons you know 24 when we went to the world series you know we were a little more one-dimensional but [1:19:36] really good at that one dimension and you know i think we've gotten more athletic over the last [1:19:42] couple years you know i think we're probably a middle of the pack type team speed yet stole a ton of [1:19:48] bases this year um i think we're a pretty good uh defensive club um but i think what stands out when [1:19:56] you when you're asking about the the brewers and and the rays their athleticism obviously having some [1:20:03] great hitters in the mix there too and then two outstanding pitching staffs i mean you look at what [1:20:08] the brewers are doing and the bullpen they're running out there in these series you know obviously [1:20:13] miserowski at the top um you know and and what the rays have done um they've gotten excellent starting [1:20:20] pitching they've mixed and matched really well baker's been a force for them at the back end they have [1:20:26] those three hitters and yet the complementary pieces they have around those guys um you know are really [1:20:33] good and some interchangeable parts where they have some position flexibility right and left-handedness [1:20:39] so uh i i think you're always trying to incorporate the best of of some teams um but you also start with [1:20:48] you know a lot of certainties that that you have within your club so a lot of times you're just trying [1:20:53] to improve things on the margins and hopefully we can we can do that uh this winter i don't know if we [1:21:01] need to just improve on the margins i think there's some other stuff we need to fix hey aaron how do you [1:21:10] get a team to hit in the postseason and do you have the type of players in your mind who can embrace [1:21:17] the pressure of hitting in the playoffs um look i i think i i hear that a lot that you know we haven't [1:21:27] hit in the postseason you know we hit a ton against the red sox against what was a really good that's [1:21:35] not a couple really good starters that we faced a bullpen that we faced that was really good obviously [1:21:41] we didn't hit for a few days like like we're capable of you know but i think that's something [1:21:46] that plagued us at times this year you know in 24 and our run to the world series you know we hit really [1:21:54] well and and you know i remember going through it at the time cleveland bullpen that was you know this [1:22:01] daunted great historically great season bullpen and and hit our way you know to to to to a world series [1:22:11] and where you know i don't think offense was the big issue that year so you're always trying to have a [1:22:16] more perfect club you're always trying to have guys in at their very best when it counts the most [1:22:23] so yeah i think we have a lot of the right players a lot of the right hitters um you know [1:22:28] but this year more than some others um obviously offense at times this year was was a challenge for [1:22:35] us and and that showed itself a little bit in the postseason and that we're really good one series [1:22:40] and we really struggled in the next so um we obviously have to get better and want to get better [1:22:45] and and hopefully with good health with tweaks to the roster here and there with you know having [1:22:52] guys you know across the board have some better years hopefully we're in position to to have a [1:22:58] postseason where um you know we go on a great offensive run you know come on please unmute boy [1:23:09] iron just to follow bruce's question i realize that asking guys to play fearlessly in october is a lot [1:23:19] easier said than done but as you've reviewed some of these recent playoff disappointments have you [1:23:25] noticed at times that some players have not competed in an unburdened way and if so as a [1:23:31] manager is there something you can actually do about that or does that have to come from within yeah i [1:23:37] don't know that i've seen that necessarily certainly not as a group that that competitive [1:23:42] thing there's always things that a player might a singular player or a couple players might be dealing [1:23:49] with it might be at playoff time it might be in the middle of the regular season those are all things [1:23:54] that um you know you have to manage and you have to play clean baseball you're managing uh you know [1:24:02] over the course of the year 50 plus players and staff and coaching and support staff and there's always [1:24:09] things that pop up sometimes it pops up in the playoffs sometimes it pops up during the year and [1:24:14] um you know our job is to try and get the most out of out of guys all the time but i don't think [1:24:20] as a whole we have an issue there of you know how guys compete you never have a perfect room you never [1:24:26] have all perfect players necessarily but you're certainly working to have the you know the the best [1:24:33] makeup club that you can possibly have and and i think we had a lot of really good ingredients in that regard [1:24:39] this year just on on a separate issue i asked how earlier if he planned on perhaps being more [1:24:46] publicly critical of players as a a source of motivation going forward he said no but i'm [1:24:52] curious what your philosophy is on that public accountability and criticism yes of players because [1:24:57] you need to hear don't do that very often and you were a player obviously so you have a different [1:25:02] perspective on it but is it something you might consider doing more often going forward no i mean [1:25:09] there's the occasions where there's a spot that requires you to you know call somebody out um i [1:25:15] would i i know i get accused sometimes of you know being too positive and in in the media and i would [1:25:22] just i would say if you watch my post press conferences this year there are a lot of days where i was talking [1:25:28] about our struggles and but does that mean i'm calling individuals out in a public way um there is [1:25:36] probably a time and place for that but but generally speaking to me that's not leadership that's that's [1:25:43] me giving red meat to people that want to be upset with somebody you know and to me they're just worried [1:25:50] about you know when you when we have issues you know as a club or or with an individual player or [1:25:57] with a with something that popped up within a game you know um i address those things we address those [1:26:04] things um you know wow man to man um sometimes it you know if we have to address something within the [1:26:12] group we do that um there's an extent to it i just i i don't think it's leadership coming up here and [1:26:21] giving red meat to want to hear us beat down a player that i know how hard this game is i know how hard it is [1:26:28] to play every single day i know how hard it is to walk out there every single day he's right to an [1:26:33] extent of failure he's right to an extent even when you're having a great year you fail all the time [1:26:37] in this sport and that's why you know it's it's very tough mentally and emotionally to play this game [1:26:46] at a very high level especially here um and so the accountability factor playing here um i feel like [1:26:57] it's very high i think there's nothing wrong with you calling out a player if they're embarrassing [1:27:02] you publicly you know what i mean not excessively but like it was something you guys already talked [1:27:10] about multiple times um pat murphy does it anthony rizzo said that if you talk to people there they [1:27:17] almost think it's insanity like we keep doing the same thing every year we don't win that's insanity [1:27:22] i don't want to hear about rizzo i understand that rizzo was part of the issue your clubhouse this year [1:27:26] but he's relatively recently removed from it were you alarmed when you heard that i don't know what [1:27:33] what's insanity he said uh you know we keep doing the same thing every year we don't win that's [1:27:39] insanity well we're trying to win it all so um and and we look i work alongside of a lot of great [1:27:49] players um a lot of great coaches and staff and front office and player development and the people that i [1:27:56] work with all the time are really good at what they do sometimes best in class at what they do [1:28:04] and are relentless in their pursuit of making us and helping us be the best possible team with [1:28:10] that we can possibly be and i'm proud to work alongside that so you know comments non-specific [1:28:20] comments after a loss in a postseason um i i don't know how to address it unless it's something real [1:28:27] specific that somebody wants to get into but um we do a lot of really good things here we have a lot [1:28:33] of really good people we have a lot of the really the right players in there never perfect certainly [1:28:40] um yeah this year and what we went through um they were a focus dialed in locked in never pointing [1:28:53] fingers um and i'm proud of how they handled a lot of adversity this year and and i i think like as [1:29:01] far as you know i've heard a lot of stuff about our clubhouse and this and that i think it was an [1:29:05] absolute strength for us this year to go through some of the things we did you know you talk about [1:29:10] some of the summer months where you know we really struggled on nights to to score you know and that's [1:29:17] true it brought them closer together and never was it you know guys pointing fingers at at anyone it [1:29:24] was finding ways to win games which they were able to do um so those are just knee-jerk responses to [1:29:33] and unless there's something specific that they want to say um you know i'll address that but um [1:29:41] we're going to work our tails off to to put ourselves in the best position to be a championship [1:29:46] oh boy and separately is there any regret on the decision to not have the team work out at the [1:29:53] tropicana field before great question uh considering great questions went out and uh ended up making [1:29:59] four hours the next game in game two we worked out i mean obviously we play there a lot but we worked [1:30:05] out before game one and then obviously game one part of the you know you're in the grind of the [1:30:11] postseason there part of it was you know uh you know our our our uh spring training complex is [1:30:21] obviously right there we've got to reject it was easier for pitchers to go throw so that was more of [1:30:26] a you know an off day for us not an off day but a you know where guys could voluntarily you know get in [1:30:36] see traject obviously all our pitchers had to throw and things like that so uh no we did work out before [1:30:42] game one and on game one so um no no issue with that thank you oh my christ christian chris go ahead [1:30:52] okay this is so this is crazy hey aaron um nearly every offensive player from last year had worse [1:30:59] numbers this year is there an underlying issue that you have seen is it an approach problem how can that [1:31:07] improve moving forward yeah i mean that's something we got to improve because we we do feel like there were [1:31:13] um you know guys that you know i feel like had you know call it down years or whatever you know [1:31:22] not live not to what i believe they're capable of some of that is young players that you know go [1:31:28] through it i i do feel like we had a number of guys that kind of rallied you know austin wells i feel [1:31:33] like it's a good example of where i felt like the final two months and even into the playoffs [1:31:38] was hopefully more representative of who i think he is as a hitter and what i think he's going to be [1:31:45] moving forward um so but but there were a handful of guys that that i feel like yankees you know [1:31:54] probably underperformed expectations um so you're constantly looking into that um as cash says trying [1:32:02] to find higher ground with you know how to tap into each individual everyone's different with with [1:32:08] in how they receive you know coaching instruction um but but i feel like overall like our offensive [1:32:16] preparation is very good and how the table is set and and kind of the program that that j-row leads um [1:32:26] but you know we didn't we didn't perform what i believe is up to our capability as offensively and [1:32:33] and we got to look into certainly all of that um obviously having guys out of the lineup you know for [1:32:39] significant chunks of the season um didn't help but but we certainly look at that and um you know we [1:32:48] expect more as a follow-up it appears that the uh pitching side is more adept at receiving and [1:32:56] applying data and information than the offensive side do you view that as an issue that you guys have [1:33:03] i think that's a little bit where we are as the sport i i think i think 2026 where we are on the [1:33:10] pitching side of things is a lot more specific and um maybe all the information available i think [1:33:20] tends to favor the pitching and how you're able to teach and coach and provide pitchers with with [1:33:27] information um hitting's been that kind of moving target and and you know as a sport we see that like [1:33:34] offenses are challenged now probably more than ever i've seen in my lifetime um and i think it has to [1:33:41] do with just the advancements of pitching and how uh tech and analytics and all that have have really [1:33:49] probably favored the pitcher more we got to figure out hitters and that's kind of the next probably [1:33:56] layer as as the hitting side of things tries to catch up with with some great pitching and then as an [1:34:02] aside um any procedures for any of your players this offseason uh no nothing nothing as of now um [1:34:11] obviously that can always change a little bit but i i don't we have nothing on the books right now [1:34:16] joel sherman joel please joel sherman guys um aaron there's a pretty set pattern with your team in the [1:34:27] postseason where if you play a team that you were better than during the regular season or the al central [1:34:32] you win but if you play a team that was as good as you were better uh you don't or why should we [1:34:38] believe under you that your team isn't just kind of like a bully and when you get hit in the postseason [1:34:44] by someone better you you won't stay down like you have uh your last eight times in the playoffs [1:34:50] yeah i mean we got to prove that otherwise hopefully we are that bully and we're the best team throughout [1:34:56] the season next year and bully our way through the postseason but until we don't i don't have that [1:35:02] answer for you we have to answer that you know until the brewers or the rays win the world series [1:35:07] they've never won a world series i believe it can happen with me at the helm um but you know any [1:35:14] answer i give in defense of that isn't going to be a great one or satisfy people so you know [1:35:20] i think i'm good at my job um i think we have a lot of the right people in the building um [1:35:29] and but at the end of the day we haven't won a championship with me at the helm and you know [1:35:36] ultimately that's what has to happen to you know to satisfy certainly myself like that's why i'm doing [1:35:43] this um but to answer those questions ultimately um haven't been able to do it yet but do you have [1:35:50] a thought about how and why it could change because ultimately uh your bosses were on beforehand and [1:35:56] are still saying it's uh the championship is the mission uh shouldn't you as the manager be able to [1:36:03] supply a mission statement on how that mission is met yeah um i mean i suppose there could be a mission [1:36:12] statement that i i don't have um but i'm confident in my ability to lead to lead this group um confident in [1:36:21] the people we have in the room obviously there's going to be some some changes some tweaks to things [1:36:26] that hopefully put us in a position to get over the top and um i'm confident in my ability to lead [1:36:33] that um but i also know i i i'm only one part of the equation too so what was that ultimately we're [1:36:41] gonna have to we're gonna have to end that narrative and and break through that narrative which a lot of [1:36:47] teams that ultimately win a championship do squash something that's you know plagued them over time [1:36:54] so until i do that um i haven't proven myself at the highest level to gary phillips hey aaron thanks [1:37:06] for taking the time today um just to follow up on chris's question and understanding that [1:37:11] pitching uh understanding that pitching advancements are you know more progressive at this point there's [1:37:18] more tech there do you feel like with the data and the information that you do have on the hitting [1:37:23] side that your hitters are as receptive or there or there is as much buy-in as you see from some of [1:37:30] your pictures yeah yeah i think there is and look i mean you know hitting nowadays a lot of guys have [1:37:36] have their outside guys too they're you know personal hitting guys that they they deal with so you're kind [1:37:42] of navigating that landscape too which i'm which i think is a good thing i think you know because guys are [1:37:48] trying to you know be the best they can possibly be so i just think on the pitching side all the tech [1:37:56] and information's a little more user friendly and probably an area on the offensive side where where [1:38:03] teams are trying to catch up but yeah i do think for the most part our guys are very receptive i think [1:38:08] i think i think we coach it well i think um the communication um between staff and players is good [1:38:19] especially in game where you know that you got to be able to communicate cleanly and and succinct and [1:38:28] i i think our our group does a really good job with that um but again i think it's an area [1:38:34] offensively where just industry wise you know the and the offense has made big strides in it from the [1:38:42] industry standpoint but i think it definitely skews and favors the pitching side of things gotcha and [1:38:49] and then unrelated you hinted a couple times after the trade that you know some more versatility could [1:38:54] be in louis garcia jr's future um do you consider him an option at second base third base are those [1:39:02] conversations um you know i just i think that's possible obviously he's played second base a lot in [1:39:09] his career but prior to this season um you know i think he's got a lot of just watching him [1:39:15] after coming over here watching him move and take ground balls and throw i think he's got a lot of [1:39:23] kind of infielder qualities to him um so i i think it's possible again you never know how the winner's [1:39:33] going to shake out so that that impacts things and affects things um but i think it's at least possible [1:39:40] that that that it could be part of the equation and just to be clear are you only talking about [1:39:44] second base there third base too yeah i i don't know that answer um i i don't want to leave anything [1:39:56] off the table um i know he's mostly only played second um but but you watch him throw and watch the [1:40:04] the actions of his throw yeah um you know or i think lend itself to a lot of different possibilities [1:40:11] but going over to the left side of the infield it's a different animal altogether so um we'll see [1:40:19] okay later splendorio go ahead hey aaron um what does this offseason look like for max freed i mean [1:40:30] is it is it going to be any different considering the bone bruise you dealt with for a lot of the [1:40:34] season yeah um well we'll see there's you know he's still kind of you know we we think he's in a good [1:40:44] spot we re-imaged him and everything and the ligaments in a good place and all that so um [1:40:49] there'll obviously be some downtime there and then ramp up so you know i think there's a lot of things [1:40:56] possible but we feel like overall and big picture he's in a good spot um but i'm not sure exactly how [1:41:02] that's going to look over the next couple of weeks and then you know even the next month or two we'll [1:41:07] start to put those plans together as as you know the medical picture becomes even more clear [1:41:16] okay has has surgery been ruled out for him or is that something that might in the next couple [1:41:20] weeks as of now yes okay um i don't want to ever say anything yeah guys i mean especially as you go [1:41:28] through but as of now i know it is okay thank you yeah jack curry hey aaron there will be countless [1:41:41] people in baseball who operate on a one-year contract but when it's the manager it garners a lot more [1:41:48] attention how will that status influence you in 2027 doesn't bother me at all um again we'll have [1:41:59] guys you know players that are free agents to be at the end of the season we'll have coaches [1:42:06] coaches potentially on expiring contracts front office all those things that's life that's part of [1:42:11] it um you know i talk about perspective a lot like you know i i feel blessed to be able to do this job [1:42:21] alongside a lot of amazing people and i'm going to go out there and do it to the best of my ability [1:42:26] this year and honestly that potential thing hanging over that quick that it's fine like like my focus [1:42:39] is is only on on looking towards next year and and trying to help us become the best possible team [1:42:46] we can be and that's where my focus lies and um and you know and moving forward beyond that that's in [1:42:53] god's hands and and i'm very comfortable and at peace with that um and just looking forward to [1:43:02] getting back to that point where we saddle up and in spring and go take another shot at this with with [1:43:07] a lot of really great people and as you do look ahead to next season and you evaluate where this team [1:43:13] is and where you'd like to see this team go if i said to you or if you said the yankees need to be [1:43:20] better at a b and c to get to the next level and maybe there's a d e and f too but what are some of [1:43:26] these things you guys need to be better at yes yeah i mean look generally speaking you want to be [1:43:31] better at everything you want to be the most perfect club you can be what the off season teaches you is [1:43:36] sometimes you know you're able to hammer a strength sometimes you know like like at the deadline like [1:43:44] luis garcia wasn't necessarily the best perfect fit but yeah you know we needed an injection of [1:43:50] offense and he was the best guy moving and obviously came in and proved that to be true so [1:43:56] you never know i become dynamic you know in 24 like when we got to the world series like [1:44:04] a lot of it was on the strength of of you know judge soto john carlo what they provided in the [1:44:11] middle of that order as as just a but you know we're deficient maybe in some other areas [1:44:17] you're always trying to where you can um attack some deficiencies and enhance the things that [1:44:26] you're really good at so we will continue to try and become the best possible club we can be um [1:44:34] fundamentally speaking getting better offensively obviously pitching was a real strength for us [1:44:41] continuing to try and even get better in that area and and run prevention and how we defend and um [1:44:50] we have coaches that are obsessed with their areas of expertise and and will continue to lean in to try [1:44:56] and help guys get better and better but you never know where you're able to really improve um ultimately [1:45:05] you know we weren't good enough to still be playing right now and we're gonna do everything we can in [1:45:11] every area of the game to to be the best we can be thank you yep john hayman john john hayman okay [1:45:27] aaron uh you won john miller you can leave of your games play playoffs eight out of nine years but fair [1:45:33] or unfair the stated goal or mission of the team is is to win a world series do you not your tv provider [1:45:40] that to be considered a success as a yankee manager you need to win a world series and relatively soon [1:45:48] sure um sorry you gotta deal with me another year john no i'm happy dealing with you no no problem with [1:45:54] that good yeah look what what people think of you or how they judge you is is up to that um i'm not in [1:46:05] this to to to be considered this i want to be the best i can be at my job and that's where my focus lies [1:46:16] if if if we don't win a championship while i'm here i'm sure that will be a frontline story of it all [1:46:23] and how people think of me and how a fan base reacts i understand that i understand that when i took this [1:46:29] job so i you know i don't define myself by you know how people look at me and judge me in my job like [1:46:42] my job is to go be the best i can possibly be and try and get the most out of this club and [1:46:49] that's a really simple answer but at the end of the day that's how i look at it thanks to pete caldera [1:47:04] erin uh hey just in the last two weeks since the season ended is there any one thing that kind of [1:47:12] regretting or thinking you do differently whether it's a postseason decision or anything regarding the [1:47:18] outcome um i would say this i would say every year is hard this is feels like up there is one of the [1:47:29] hardest um you know it's i mean it it hurts when you lose and you know especially when as a club you [1:47:39] went through so much um and again like i give our guys a ton of credit our team in some imperfect [1:47:49] situations and through a lot of adversity really put themselves in position to go do something [1:47:55] special and in in october and we weren't able to finish that and that's so that stings and that [1:48:01] hurts um there are things um i i'm i don't want to necessarily say and answer because there's specific [1:48:12] like man individual conversations that you have with guys throughout the year that could you have [1:48:19] you know got more out of this guy in a certain you know those are i don't want to go into specific [1:48:25] conversations that i have with guys in that regard um as far as strategic things um how we prepared all [1:48:34] those kind of things not really you know i really i really believe this team did a really good job [1:48:42] this season especially even going back to spring training of really working hard on things and really [1:48:50] preparing well each and every day and you know ultimately obviously it wasn't good enough and [1:48:56] that that stings but i the way this group went about things as a group and again it's never perfect [1:49:03] and there's always individual things that pop up that you wish you could do better but as a group [1:49:10] this team did a lot of the really intangible things i thought really really well going back to the [1:49:17] the first day in spring training great to steal go ahead hey aaron um obviously there's a looming [1:49:28] lockout um how different is this off season for you and your coaching staff and could that potentially [1:49:34] impact how this coaching staff looks like do you guys prioritize continuity considering you can't [1:49:38] talk to them for a long time yeah um well i mean obviously coaches you can talk to um but yeah i mean who [1:49:48] knows it's you know you never like hopefully you know hopefully there's a you know my obviously i'm [1:49:56] not involved in in in negotiations or the collective bargaining agreement my only hope is that you know [1:50:03] they come to an agreement sooner rather than later and and you can have some a semblance of a some [1:50:11] semblance of a normal off season in regards to communication with players um obviously we're [1:50:19] able to have that now we're able to at least first certainly have that through the she's making me fall [1:50:24] asleep month of november um so hopefully those conversations happen and set these guys up to [1:50:33] have successful off seasons and into the spring and then hopefully a deal's done but um you know that's [1:50:39] out of my hands we'll try and be you know buttoned up as best we can um through the next you know month [1:50:46] and a half and then you know if if we're not allowed to have contact hopefully we put our guys in good [1:50:51] position to to to be successful when they're coming out of it um and you know obviously earlier uh rizzo's [1:50:58] criticism was brought up and figured i'd give you a chance to publicly respond to somebody else's [1:51:03] criticism cc zabathia okay said uh no disrespect but they don't know what the standard is there's nobody in [1:51:08] that room keeping the standard once brett gardner left it's it's been a wrap um he also said there [1:51:13] hasn't been enough former players around to keep up the standard um i guess what is your response to [1:51:18] that uh what is the yankee standard to you and uh ultimately what's your response thank you great [1:51:23] question um well i do think there we do have a lot of guys around and we always want guys around you [1:51:34] know i i go through and you know starting in the next you know november december start reaching out to [1:51:41] guys to invite for spring training roles um i love when guys are around us here um you know andy [1:51:50] pettit for example is actually a big part of our staff that's here probably you know he's probably [1:51:55] here a third of the time to half the time and um so i do think we have guys around i think we can [1:52:02] always be better at the standard because you know we expect to be a champion every year um and i think we [1:52:10] we do have a lot of the right ingredients um in that room that are pushing towards that standard [1:52:16] and i would and i even look to our clubhouse this year where i know that's been brought up [1:52:21] and i don't know if cc was specifically talking about that but you know i feel like our clubhouse [1:52:27] this year was was again a strength um this team dealt with a lot and and handled it and handled it [1:52:37] without pointing fingers but just by sticking their nose down and competing really well and [1:52:44] preparing really well and working really hard as a group there's always spots you can be better [1:52:49] there's always individuals that you feel like can be better but by and large the group i thought in [1:52:55] that regard was excellent i thought you know having guys like that were hurt you know john carlo comes [1:53:01] to mind hurt all year and having setbacks even had a setback is as late as late august or early [1:53:08] to september whenever that was and even in my brain you know i thought you know that's probably it for [1:53:14] the season and he kept kept fighting to be to get to be a part of the roster um at the end you know ryan [1:53:23] weathers having an outstanding year and going down with the forearm issue and you think oh maybe that's [1:53:28] a wrap with the season competing his butt off to get back and to have a role and pitch really well [1:53:34] coming out of in a different role coming out of the bullpen um you know judgy not being a hundred [1:53:39] percent at the end and wanting desperately to be on the roster and you know we had a number of those [1:53:46] examples so i i think i would disagree with that a lot because we want guys around i'm inviting guys [1:53:54] around especially a lot of guys for spring training roles um and i think we have a lot of right the [1:54:00] right ingredients in the clubhouse as far as you know having that grit and that that work ethic that [1:54:07] you need to have um it can always be better you you've got to go re you earn that every single year [1:54:15] you got to find that hunger that playoff acumen man it's not a given that's what we need but i think [1:54:20] we had that this year definitely manisero go ahead hey aaron um you know just looking at what the [1:54:32] pitching staff was able to do this year how good they were especially given some of the injuries do [1:54:37] you worry there was an opportunity wasted with this group and i guess how do you make sure this [1:54:43] the rotation and the bullpen and everything carries over in the next season yeah again every year is [1:54:48] different certainly the way we pitched this year felt like from that exactly we had the [1:54:56] the ingredients to win a championship so there's always and that's part of the disappointment that's [1:55:00] part of the kind of the depression you feel coming out of a postseason series and how you recharge your [1:55:08] battery um that was an overwhelming strength for us this year that what that pitching group was able to do [1:55:15] this year even even through a lot of different injuries and getting guys back in the mix and guys [1:55:21] establishing themselves in the ball or in the rotation um that pitching was so good but i i also feel [1:55:29] very confident that you know we're going to have the type of winner that puts ourselves in a position to [1:55:35] be a team that can go legitimately compete for a championship next year so there's always that regret [1:55:42] because usually when you are a playoff team there's something that was special about your club you know [1:55:48] this year was the pitching so you know there's always that regret man with our pitching we could [1:55:56] uh or years where man our offense or what whatever so so there's always the regret or the disappointment [1:56:06] or the pain of that um but there's also a lot of confidence try to be good in all areas [1:56:11] that we're gonna um you know put ourselves in a position to go compete for it all again [1:56:18] gotta try to be good at all areas if the last two in queue bob clapish go ahead hey aaron you were [1:56:27] just uh talking about the uh the dialed in focus clubhouse and the work ethic but then [1:56:32] one day you run out you one day you look up you see jazz chisholm running out to his position [1:56:37] with a lollipop in his mouth didn't that bother you what yeah yeah yeah i answered that in the mean [1:56:46] in the real time i think you know it bothered me so yeah it bothered me you didn't you didn't [1:56:55] hear my answer to that when they when that happened i did not but i mean you've been talking [1:57:00] about the strength of the clubhouse and that seems to run counter to your philosophy i'm just [1:57:05] wondering yeah and that was one of those things that i called out from this that wasn't that bothered [1:57:10] me i'm surprised you missed that that question would have been phrased so much better yeah and and [1:57:16] i've also said up here that nothing's perfect and but i said as a as a whole we had a lot of the [1:57:23] right ingredients doesn't mean we didn't have individual things pop up or doesn't mean it's a [1:57:28] perfect room by any means um and when those things i'm surprised you missed that i try to address them [1:57:36] thank you take a last one from ron blum make it good ronnie bob clapish yeah aaron looking at next [1:57:48] season what do you view as john carlos role especially given the need to keep uh ben's back in the lineup [1:57:55] every day yeah we'll see um the good thing is you know he at least enters the making good it's crazy [1:58:02] season you know physically able and obviously got back and was able to to be a part of the roster in [1:58:10] the postseason so um look i know it's it's obviously was a very tough year for for junk from the soft tissue [1:58:18] stuff and lower body stuff um and that i know pains him um because i think i heard cash say like [1:58:28] big g's wired right and and he cares immensely and and does all he can to take care of his body as best [1:58:36] we best he can um so we'll see we'll see as the winter unfolds we'll see what what the roster looks like [1:58:44] when we when we get to tampa and you know we go back at it but it's hard it's impossible to to know [1:58:51] exactly what that looks like right now but right now it looks like we have a healthy player that [1:58:55] hopefully um that is the case when we get to tampa and and and we'll see aaron thank you for the time [1:59:04] everybody uh enjoy the rest of your day and all right oh my god all right here we go all right so [1:59:15] let's let's talk about this real quick he's right about john carlo though he is a guy that is wired right [1:59:21] and i feel like if we had guys that had more of his mentality we'd be better off with john carlo [1:59:27] the thing with john carlo is is that unfortunately he's not on the field we've seen in i mean the guy [1:59:34] doesn't shrink when it comes to october if we have more people like that with his mentality i'm sure [1:59:40] that we'll end up being okay and we would win more than what we would lose right the problem is is that [1:59:46] why are we not targeting more people with that kind of mentality right why aren't we targeting [1:59:56] different dudes like there there was a lot of like doubling down on certain certain things that worry me [2:00:03] about the yankees like them saying you know some some days they talked about the luis garcia acquiring [2:00:09] luis garcia and they were saying yeah but some some years you're just good at some things and you know [2:00:17] you try to reinforce the other things that you're not good at and sometimes the solution is to [2:00:22] reinforce the thing that you're really good at so if you reinforce the thing that you're really good [2:00:29] at then you're less dynamic and you can only win one way right so for example you take the rays or the [2:00:38] brewers they're the latest example because they're in the in the world series a place that you want to be [2:00:43] and they can beat you a number of different ways right the uh pat murphy had an interview where he [2:00:53] was talking about uh hamilton and how he told him hey you're gonna bunt here i know that we're down by [2:01:00] four but i need you to bunt here and he says and then he kind of looked at him a certain way that trust [2:01:06] me bunt here and you bunting here is gonna get you a pitch to hit later on and guess what he bunted move [2:01:14] the runner along that's good but later on he faced edwin diaz edwin diaz threw him a fast a cutter [2:01:21] it was a cutter cut into the middle of the plate guess what hamilton hit it out because they're [2:01:27] thinking oh this guy's just a bunter you know he's a so my problem with the yankees is that they make [2:01:32] their team one-dimensional they reference 2024 but they they say oh we hit that year no no no you did [2:01:40] not hit okay giancarlo judge a little bit and um and soto hit they hit okay three ninths of your [2:01:56] lineup hit you needed more people to do that so my thing is is that whenever they say sometimes you [2:02:05] got your strength and you get this is you know you got because no the really good teams the teams that [2:02:11] win are not good in one area they're good in almost all areas right they got a reliable bullpen [2:02:22] they've got clutch hitting they hit for power you know timely homers they hit for average they play [2:02:29] good defense they pitch they do all of those things because that's how you win so 2024 2024 is a team [2:02:39] that yes they were more based on their offense right but guess what their defense is lacking and you [2:02:48] didn't look to reinforce the areas of defense that you should have reinforced and that's why [2:02:55] ultimately you end up losing to a team that does play defense to a team that said let's make them [2:03:00] play baseball and make them play defense and that's i always say your scouting report can't be [2:03:06] the team scouting report cannot be make them play baseball and that's been the problem with the yanks [2:03:13] and again going back to joe sherman's question i think a lot of that falls on cashman and the team he's [2:03:20] building and i think if you're going to build a team it has to be more dynamic you got to get guys [2:03:25] that can hit for power yes and he keeps mentioning slug and that's cool but sometimes you need those [2:03:32] guys that could just put the bat on the ball move runners along don't strike out and that can put [2:03:37] together positive at bats because that's how you win in the postseason you don't win one particular way [2:03:43] lineups used to be built a certain way before because you know for over 100 years because it works that [2:03:52] way leadoff hitter is a guy that gets on base you got your your second hitter is a guy that's your [2:03:58] your best bat to ball guy that could move runners along your third hitter is your best overall hitter [2:04:05] your fourth hitter is your rbi guy your fifth hitter is you know a very dynamic hitter and who's [2:04:12] a run producer you know bottom of the lineup you got speed guides you got your catcher down there unless [2:04:19] you have a really good hitting catcher which would fit in the middle of the lineup the yankee teams that [2:04:25] won were good at everything not particularly just really good at one thing and that's what the [2:04:34] yankees are missing it's like bro you guys won this same regime except for boone cashman has won he's [2:04:43] built teams that won in 2019 that team was able to come back that team was able to pitch that team was [2:04:50] able to have a very good bullpen that team was able to defend that team was able to like it had [2:04:55] all they were able to hit for power they were able to hit for average they had switch hitters up and [2:05:00] down the damn lineup they had speed they like that team had everything and if you can build that team [2:05:09] why can't you do the same thing with this why i know it's easier said than done you know this [2:05:18] there's that and the third but maybe that's what you need to do let me go ahead and go get this guy [2:05:23] because he has a high on base percentage and i'm going to target him to be my leadoff hitter and he [2:05:29] only swings and pitches in the zone doesn't swing at pitches out of the zone you know that maybe he [2:05:34] doesn't have the slug that you want he doesn't hit the homers that you want but guess what he gets on [2:05:40] base because a leadoff hitter slugging i don't give a shit about i'm gonna be very honest with you [2:05:46] what's a solo homer to me a leadoff hitter is on base for the two-run homer that could come later on [2:05:53] to get my fourth bat a chance to bat in this inning for judge to get in that bat with a runner on [2:06:02] that's what that's like what i think the yankees are like missing in in their like why are they [2:06:10] thinking that everybody in the damn lineup has to hit has to slug it's nice if they slug but i think [2:06:18] that oh my leadoff hitter it's okay if he if he can hit homers whatever that's a plus but my actual [2:06:25] plus for that position for my leadoff hitter that's playing x position is to get on base to have and to [2:06:33] have speed so if you focus on those two things or not strike out so you focus on those three things [2:06:38] those characteristics then that's how you build your team that's how you build your team should [2:06:48] i do a mob to show franchise and try to build a team this way with that mentality and see if it [2:06:53] works maybe i should target people around the lead that fit certain criterias where i'm like all right [2:07:00] well you know i want the guys at the bottom of the lineup to have some more speed some contact [2:07:05] let's strike out you know my middle of the order guys are the ones that are the power big slug guys [2:07:11] right yeah they may strike out or whatever it is like a spencer jones is perfect for that but spencer's [2:07:17] a little dynamic because he could be able to hit lefties hit righty you know those things he'll be [2:07:21] like a nice middle of the order bat like a like a um five six seven bat you get what i'm saying no um [2:07:28] four five six bat you know so maybe i should do that maybe i'll do a series where can we fix the [2:07:35] yankees or whatever it is and i'll do i'll play gm and we'll figure it out and i'll take this team [2:07:42] that we have right now and try to see if i could transform it into something something new and [2:07:49] something different i don't know press the number one in the chat if you guys like to see that [2:07:52] maybe i'll do that series you know um nice honka yeah i'll probably i'll probably set something up [2:08:04] we'll see and i'll have an assistant gm which is like joey or some shit help me out and we'll try [2:08:11] to like we'll try to like build a team or create trades off season wise and try to uh go ahead and [2:08:18] move um we'll set that up and we'll make it into a nice little youtube series you know i will be the [2:08:26] show isn't a great representation of how it works plus so what's a good game for it is outside the [2:08:31] park baseball better you would have to sim every game to see if the roster build you work yeah would [2:08:39] outside the park be better that's what i'm trying to think yeah that's a solid one it's heavy okay [2:08:49] okay or maybe okay maybe what we got to do is play a variety of just different baseball games and [2:08:58] build a yankee team that way and see how many teams we could be able to build i don't know we'll try to [2:09:05] find solutions let me see if there's anything else that stood out for me during this um during this [2:09:14] sheet here um how basically said that continuity not an overhaul is important to him how blamed the [2:09:28] offense most directly uh while backing boom and cashman uh management did promise to target reviews [2:09:38] of hitting you know preparation and culture that it's not a leadership reset he doesn't believe that [2:09:45] this should be a leadership reset i don't know you guys let me know uh how also said this is the [2:09:52] number one primary thing the takeaway is that the offense was to blame and that how uh how says that [2:10:01] the disappointment for a second straight season and puts a responsibility on position players says [2:10:07] that the pitchers are in praise despite injuries um the hitting staff and the coaching staff will face [2:10:16] review no specific changes were announced but he says that the the offense was a big disappointment [2:10:22] for me i don't know now my weird thing is that yes it's an execution problem or whatever it is yes [2:10:32] they didn't hit but i think it's a roster construction problem uh what cash built was not something [2:10:39] supposed to be having staying power now boone took a week long and they took a week long evaluation [2:10:47] for boone which is super interesting uh cashman have a new contract it's not finalized yet they [2:10:58] didn't say for how long so we just don't know yet i'm sure it'll be announced the next couple of days [2:11:02] they got some details how how called the healthy roster a championship capable roster and that backed [2:11:11] the spending and supported keeping the top young players at the deadline he said he's not going to make [2:11:18] a change just for the sake of making a change here we go um as far as injuries judgment most of the [2:11:28] season they talked about that uh they said and missed substantial amount of time that how basically [2:11:35] stressed losing two major right-handed power bats and uh keeping standing on the field is a major [2:11:43] problem cashman also said that the the available team was capable of advancing which i don't i don't [2:11:52] believe that i don't believe that the the team was capable of doing that because they just weren't [2:11:57] better they weren't on the same playing field as tampa in my opinion um yeah how definitely leaned [2:12:07] really hard on injuries so it's it's whatever but again you're one game worse than what you were last [2:12:14] year when the blue jeans embarrass you too it's like the same thing uh the culture what does it mean [2:12:21] that they didn't show up the management will examine the clubhouse and preparation concerns and that [2:12:26] um including schlittler's comments of the alds that they they basically said that they weren't ready [2:12:32] um as far as accountability they asked about a george steinbrenner type of like public criticism and [2:12:45] hal said that that's not his style that that's not what he's gonna do he'll just talk to people face to [2:12:50] face if he needs to talk to them or whatever cashman argued that the new york media and fan pressure [2:12:56] creates intense accountability and that public call outs can backfire and bro we yo the accountability [2:13:07] and holding dudes accountable shouldn't be on the fans it shouldn't be on the media it should be you [2:13:13] guys you guys should be harder on yourselves than what we are on you i truly feel that way you guys need [2:13:22] to be harder on yourself than what we are of you and i think the problem is is that the yankees are [2:13:29] looking for i don't know they're looking for um oh you guys you guys treat us already tough so we're [2:13:39] going to be softer on them it's like no if you guys are tougher on yourself then what didn't what [2:13:45] anybody else says to you outside of that can't bother you if you guys are tougher on yourself [2:13:52] nobody can be tougher on you than what you are on yourself so saying the new york media and the [2:14:01] scrutiny that you guys get through new york media and the fans already creates like a pressure part [2:14:05] yes sure but in that room should be way more pressure than what it is outside not pressure but [2:14:11] it should it should be more like a much higher expectation and like holding a level of holding [2:14:17] accountability than what it does outside the room that doesn't make sense that doesn't make sense to [2:14:22] me management denied that selfishness or lack of care defined the team all right i can't speak to [2:14:29] inside of the clubhouse i wasn't there but we can only talk about what's on the field um they also [2:14:38] talked about october versus results now october now this is my thing cashman cited that the postseason [2:14:48] is volatile which is like a crapshoot kind of thing right that talent on both sides and that there's no [2:14:57] magic bullet to make a team postseason proof and i i i truly disagree i truly disagree [2:15:06] because you can make a team what you're all right what you do during the regular season is a [2:15:12] characteristic or just characteristics that you build to the team that you will be in the postseason [2:15:18] if you're a team that comes back if you're a team that pitches well if you're a team that can close [2:15:22] out games if you're a team if you can do those things very well when you get to the postseason [2:15:27] you're put into those situations you're familiar with them you're just like okay we've been here [2:15:31] before it's fine we're down three we're just gonna come back on them it's fine we're playing at home [2:15:37] we don't care we're gonna come back and win it's just a characteristics of who you are so for you to [2:15:42] say oh yeah we can only build for the postseason i think that's the crux of the problem you need to [2:15:47] get to the postseason sure with players that you feel can get you over the hump in the postseason [2:15:54] getting to the postseason is not a problem for you guys right you guys can get there except that when [2:16:01] you guys get there you lose so identify i think the yankees need to identify what can win in october [2:16:08] what do you want okay hitting in the clutch getting on base um smart base running uh heads up play [2:16:17] good defense uh pitching you know those kind of things and then build the team to that build the [2:16:25] team to those standards and then get through the season right with that team and then when you get [2:16:33] to october you have that crop of players that now you identify like okay they can be able to do this [2:16:39] and now when we get to october we can do this we can't have four or five different positions that [2:16:46] you're still on the day of thinking of volby plays his first game or his second career game ever in the [2:16:53] playoffs at third base like we can't do that you get what i'm saying so if you need if you identify [2:16:59] these bats contact whatever you need whatever you feel like is missing in the playoffs or whatever [2:17:04] you feel like is going to win in the playoffs and no not only building a team on power top to bottom [2:17:10] of the lineup a dynamic roster that you feel can win baseball games and win tight baseball games and [2:17:17] that you can be able to identify that right that team will be the team that can win in october for you [2:17:23] so you build that then you get through the you know you build to the season that team probably will [2:17:29] win a division that team will win in the regular season you guys know how to win in the regular [2:17:34] season and when you get to it because you guys know how to beat up on the bad teams but the way to beat [2:17:39] up on the good teams is with those those particular identifiers of those players because you got to do [2:17:45] many things to beat the good teams you could do the one-dimensional thing to beat things like the [2:17:50] beat teams like the red socks and beat the freaking pirates and beat the cincinnati reds and beat the [2:17:56] bums of the league you could do the power hitting and then just kind of that's it but you need the [2:18:02] dynamic offense to beat the really good ones to beat the milwaukees to beat the tampas you need to [2:18:08] be dynamic where when the slugging isn't happening how else are you creating runs so i think that's [2:18:17] that's that's a key and what they need to do um yeah i think that cashman needs to really evaluate [2:18:40] how they evaluate how they want to build their roster the way that they build their roster [2:18:47] is and the the people that they identify for each slots of those roster that's how you do it [2:18:56] i think if you're doing that i think that the yankees will be better off for it guys if you [2:19:02] guys are on youtube make sure you guys like the video we're up to 288 likes it would help if you [2:19:08] guys haven't subscribed make sure you guys do we do a pinstripe strong every sunday and this sunday [2:19:15] we're doing it again we'll i'm sure we'll talk about this and we'll get chris's reaction and there'll be [2:19:19] more uh reactions on everything and we'll go a little bit deeper you know we'll do like sound [2:19:25] bites and stuff like that it was just a raw reaction right now and we'll do more things uh [2:19:30] along those lines you know we'll play like little games with each other i am thinking about doing [2:19:34] that series though that franchise series on how to build this team and um maybe i will do an [2:19:41] elmo be the show one and the outside the park one and i'll look for other ways to do it too you [2:19:48] know uh other baseball games that we can play to do it do those things too um that question to boom [2:19:58] bothered him uh which one i feel like taking this slow in the regular season is also another factor [2:20:04] for the yankees a practice to be mentally tough they won a practice yes again it's that's the standard [2:20:13] you set the standard but the yankees i think need to identify the type of player that they want at [2:20:19] every slot in the lineup and then only put those kind of people that kind of personnel there and [2:20:27] only give boone the kind of personnel that would be that would he would need to put in those kind of [2:20:34] slots you got what i'm saying why should anyone believe that under you that they'll win is crazy [2:20:45] i mean it's interesting it's not crazy but it's just sherman asking pointed questions [2:20:49] but that's where we're at as far as boone i don't know i i think boone's interview should have gone [2:21:00] first and then you talk to cash because only cashman and how can offer you guys questions and [2:21:06] i felt like cashman and how needed to have two separate press conference them taking it together [2:21:11] just split the questions and that just made it like you know what i mean like it made it a little [2:21:17] like then we got a little short change there with that but they wanted to they wanted to show a [2:21:25] unified front with cashman and you know they wanted to show a unified front so they're showing a unified [2:21:32] front there that was more important to them um i don't know how about they analyze a player with head [2:21:42] and heart which analytics can't measure um the way that they go that way they don't end up with [2:21:50] jack yeah they they look sometimes they look too into like just physical tools like of course they [2:21:57] they probably look into whether this person will handle new york or not but just you can see how [2:22:02] a player plays and like little decisions that they make between the lines and say this guy's a winning [2:22:07] ball player is this you know i'm not saying that they're selfish but does this guy try to move the [2:22:16] runner over or try to bunt or is he trying to hit trying to hit for homers here in big spots like is he [2:22:23] after his personal glory because he feels like that's that's what'll get the team or do you like [2:22:28] you don't need more people to like hit homers for you if they hit homers it's all right i think you [2:22:34] need more people that'll be able to like hit and play some bingo bango you got me move the runners [2:22:40] over dudes that can be able to bunt you know shit like that i think george lombard is a perfect [2:22:45] like prototype guy um for the kind of hitter you know he's not somebody that's going to be a big power [2:22:54] hitter he has some pop but not somebody that has a big power hitter but he likes to hit opposite field [2:23:00] and hit behind runners and do all of those things you know what i'm saying um i i like what i've seen [2:23:09] from lombard i like what i've seen from i like what i've seen from spencer jones also there's times [2:23:17] spencer jones two strike approach is actually pretty cool and i think spencer jones is going to get much [2:23:23] better because he identifies strikes and he's sometimes he swings right under them but once he locks [2:23:28] that shit in it's gonna it's gonna go it's gonna go it's gonna go yankees need to get more players [2:23:35] that can be able to like not have like that swing for the fence mentality and just be able to play [2:23:41] some bingo bongo you know i mean put some bat on the ball to get that bingo bongo out there you know [2:23:46] i mean sometimes life is about that bingo bongo man if you guys can be able to get that bingo bongo [2:23:50] that's what we need bingo bongo i mean if you get some bingo bongo going that's how you win i mean the [2:23:57] race play bingo bongo ball all the time same thing that you know the brewers the brewers bingo bongo [2:24:03] all the time anyway i need to go get a haircut and then i need to pack because i need to go to the um [2:24:11] i'm actually gonna get ready because i'm gonna go to i'm gonna take a flight to milwaukee tonight [2:24:16] because i am gonna be covering game one of the world series so i'll try to release i'll try to [2:24:24] record a little bit of a vlog of come with me to the world series and we'll try to cover that and [2:24:33] i'll go watch some some i'll watch these two guys go out there and play some bingo bongo man because [2:24:39] they definitely play bingo bongo all the time you know i mean they play bingo bongo between those two [2:24:44] teams 100 for sure all right so i'd like to thank you guys i'd like thank you guys for being here [2:24:49] uh hanging out with me and uh we will see you guys later all right sometimes you gotta get together [2:24:57] play that good old bingo bongo all right i'll uh see you guys next thing
