[0:00] hi everybody a reminder to raise your hand if you'd like to ask a question [0:03] jess i'll start if you could just share your initial thoughts on the match today [0:08] tough one today um she played really well i thought she ended up serving really well the [0:12] last couple sets and i still had a lot of break points couple unlucky on some ones i felt like [0:18] in the second set that definitely could have gone either way um you know i fought back to [0:25] to break and then got broken right back so that was a little frustrating but [0:28] i mean i thought she played well it was i mean an intense match and um yeah just disappointed but [0:35] i thought it was a good match guys hi jess tough loss in this match do you think there's anything [0:43] you could have done differently tactically i know it was quite close you're saying but or even just [0:47] differently in some of those key points yeah i felt like there were some patterns that i didn't really [0:52] stick to now that i'm kind of like digesting and i feel like there's a lot of things i wish i could [0:58] have done differently i mean obviously in hindsight it's always easier to say that but there's [1:03] definitely probably some patterns i wish that i um i would have trusted a bit more and then i don't [1:09] think i served my best i thought i served okay but i think she served a little bit better and [1:15] there's just some things um i wish i did differently on my serve and it seems like [1:22] playing as coco is a lot of hitting it you know for you especially like getting it flat to her [1:26] forehand is that one of the things that you was working you got away from or or how complicated [1:31] is it playing coco when her her level can go up and down i mean honestly i thought like strategy off [1:36] the ground was good i think um i could have returned a bit better i don't think like i was [1:43] trusting my return position um but kudos to her i mean she made me feel a little bit uncomfortable i [1:49] thought i started off returning really well and put a lot of pressure on her serve right from the [1:53] beginning um and then it just kind of flipped i think i was maybe overthinking it a little bit [1:58] and should have just trusted what i thought i should have done and instead i was getting kind [2:02] of caught and allowing her to really like get more freedom on her serve um and then from the ground [2:09] yeah i mean i try to i always play flat that doesn't really change much so i think that's why [2:13] sometimes i can give her a lot of trouble and um i think maybe at the end i should have maybe changed [2:21] up the pace and sliced a bit more because i felt like she got onto the pace a bit and started playing [2:27] much better and then she yeah was playing well at the end but um i mean there's just a couple things [2:33] here and there like that you wish you could change but it doesn't always mean that's gonna be a better [2:37] outcome um yeah tough one but well thought what uh given her sort of past on grass what were there [2:47] things that you expected to be able to do uh today against her that surprised you that you weren't [2:54] able to do more effective um i don't think there was anything that surprised me that she did better [3:00] i mean with her serve she can serve really well and then obviously sometimes she can throw in some [3:05] double faults but i think that's what makes it so hard to play against is you're not really sure [3:10] what's coming and i think in the first set you know she gave me a lot of double faults but i thought [3:14] she would eventually serve better um i thought she would get she would fight and compete and [3:19] find a way to to get some serves in and then she started serving really well so i don't think that [3:25] maybe you know you think oh she's not going to serve that well but i think what's tough on the [3:30] surface is if she does serve well she serves big and she serves really good so um that wasn't [3:36] necessarily surprising i think it's just something where sometimes you know she doesn't serve well and [3:42] sometimes she can serve great and over two out of three sets there's probably a point she's going [3:46] to start serving better um and she was able to do that today and i think that was kind of the main [3:51] difference but i would say there was nothing really like that surprised me that like i didn't think [3:56] she was going to do i thought it was pretty much how i thought it was going to happen um she was [4:01] just able to to execute her serve on some big points um and especially in the second and then i thought [4:09] she played a good third set doug just just in the lead up did it feel different coming out to play [4:15] her on a grand slam stage since you guys had never met in a major before no i didn't even realize that [4:21] not really it felt the same um i think once you're out there you're just you're in the moment and you're [4:26] just playing the the person across the net and um i think yeah she she stepped up on pressure points [4:33] i thought really well and you know when she needed to lock in and just not miss a ball that's what she did [4:38] um but that's i think vintage coco i think that's happened in all of our matches and [4:44] it's just whether i'm able to capitalize on it or not um but she's the best in the world at that i mean [4:49] how well she competes and how she makes you beat her no matter the score the moment i think is her [4:55] best attribute and why she is a major champion and done so well um so i mean that's that's every time i [5:03] play her um i'm not sure if it really made much of a difference being at a grand slam it didn't really [5:08] feel that different uh to me out there felt like a lot of our other matches and being on center court [5:17] for the first time you talked about last time what was it like schedule there being out there for the [5:23] first time yeah it was it was awesome i've never really been out there um it was really cool definitely [5:28] a different feel to to court one um it feels a little bit more intimate you know the roof is kind [5:35] of it's different up top you know when you're looking visually but i thought it was it was really [5:39] cool it was definitely special walking out there you know i like how you walk you just walk out [5:44] together i think that's really cool something that not i don't think anywhere else really does um so [5:49] that was kind of a a cool part last question oh sorry my question was asked right yep one more [5:57] hi jess um i just wanted to ask like how you would look back at your grass season um or maybe it's a bit too [6:02] early to ask that question but just your overall thoughts yeah i think um i mean it's the best grass [6:07] season i would say um from start to finish that i've had um being able to to make finals of berlin [6:15] and beat some really good grass court players and lose to you know noskova in the finals who's probably [6:20] gonna maybe who knows in the finals here we don't know but she's been playing great and then um [6:26] yeah to get some really good solid wins here and play a good match in the quarterfinals play on center [6:31] court for the first time um you know had a great win in the fourth round so i think there was a lot [6:36] of really good takeaways i think it's probably one of the the better grass court seasons i've [6:40] definitely had from start to finish um you know but it's it's short so i guess it was short and sweet [6:46] not the the best result but um you know i think i can still walk away going into the hard court season [6:52] playing some good tennis and hopefully can build off of um off of this to get a good start in the summer [6:59] swing um yeah tough one but well fought what uh given her sort of past on grass what were there [7:08] things that you expected to be able to do uh today against her that surprised you that you weren't able [7:15] to do more effective um i don't think there was anything that surprised me that she did better i mean [7:22] with her serve she can serve really well and then obviously sometimes she can throw in some double faults [7:27] but i think that's what makes it so hard to play against is you're not really sure what's coming [7:32] and i think in the first set you know she gave me a lot of double faults but i thought she would [7:35] eventually serve better um i thought she would get she would fight and compete and find a way to to [7:41] get some serves in and then she started serving really well so i don't think that
