Interview with Joe Merrill (Splurrt)

[00:00:00] Speaker 1: hey good afternoon everybody this is andy hanging out here in new york with my good friend joe [00:00:07] Speaker 2: merrill splurt how you doing buddy hey guys um so i have some of my figures here just taking you through them let's start with this guy though because this is the big this is the big upcoming new shift um new head new head for the diggler body it's like the ram head and then it's got the teeth and the horns and comparing with the original diggler trying to take like the diggler body and make a whole new character um i have some other some other heads planned for diggler too so hopefully soon you know i'll get some more made he's been busy but get some more made and keep things going with diggler that's looks great dude thank you um have the cadaver kids just put some guys out to show andy uh this was an old micro run the first one i painted um this was at toy karma last year um new york last year and this guy is an upcoming one with rich mutant vinyl hard decor he's painting up some of his orange some of his orange vinyl for me so [00:01:21] Speaker 1: yeah right on fantastic so you've got uh let's see you got diggler out [00:01:30] Speaker 2: now cadaver mecca brain head coming for cadaver kid too make a brain head that's in production right now tell us about that uh it's uh you know cadaver kid you know he's nice but he's a little dumb so they had to operate on him give him some more brain power but the operation went wrong the gasket's blue so uh he's a little crazed he's a little insane but that should be that should be fun all right some mechanical plates some exposed brain nice looking forward to that one okay [00:02:04] Speaker 1: and so what about this new ram guy i mean what kind what are we looking at i mean he's real new [00:02:08] Speaker 2: and you just finished helping him yeah i i was i was sculpting in a rush to show this guy to andy um i mean i wanted to do some kind of animal heads with diggler and uh originally i didn't even think about doing the teeth on the horns i i just started off to do a round head and then the whole kind of making them out out of the horns just came to me like halfway through it that's why i ran with it i thought it was uh pretty interesting um i have some i'm thinking of doing some other animal heads in the in the future [00:02:41] Speaker 1: too but i'll keep those under wraps for now and those are going to be on the the diggler head also [00:02:46] Speaker 2: or also on the cadaver the cadaver body i'm sorry the diggler body on the diggler body i mean the the joints on diggler and cadaver kid on the on the neck they're close enough that you can swap heads and you can put the diggler heads on cadaver kid they actually have a mash-up coming soon with the diggler head on the cadaver kid body um i'm planning on doing some more of those in the future looks pretty cool i'm not i'm not i'm not a good public public speaker i don't know you're doing great i don't do well under pressure [00:03:17] Speaker 1: new tripod in action old tripod left perhaps at somebody else's house no i appreciate your uh taking these out and and show it's real cool yeah man because you got like three of them here side by side right i mean this first time all three of these guys have been seen [00:03:34] Speaker 2: together yeah it's cool yeah i mean this is the first time i'm i'm reviewing the uh the new diggler head to anyone andy's getting the uh andy's getting the scoop here so thank you buddy andy andy told me he was [00:03:46] Speaker 1: coming to new york i had to get i had to get something for him right on right on so so listen uh um you've got you've got so you've got what like three three figures here now and um show us show us the resin here too you got you got this resin you brought along yeah this is uh this this was a resin figure [00:04:10] Speaker 2: i did before diggler and cadaver kid this is the higher resin let me put his arms on yeah i actually have some some new hi is coming out soon and also another resin figure garbage guard hi is just kind of a funny little monster he has his little underwear on there he's just kind of uh saying hi to you popping up he's excited to see you um so with him and him and garbage cars i'm trying to keep the resin going i'm trying to do the vinyl and the resin [00:04:50] Speaker 1: so okay um you know i was noticing about that is you know it gives me kind of a similar feeling to to the diggler figure right sorry that's all right cell phone going off sorry um and you know as long as like the lines we'll fix it in post no no we won't no we won't yeah we'll fix it in post this table is really small guys i'm really sorry i got this new tripod here but we don't have a lot of space to work with and so i'm sorry i'm cutting off joe's head a little bit here i'll sit back no you're all good man you're all good um you know what i'm noticing about that about about the high up with with the the diggler kid especially he's got this real kind of similar feeling with the lines and the overall kind of aesthetic of that is that kind of intentional or just kind of like [00:05:43] Speaker 2: the way the way your things come out yeah i mean with with the high uh and the diggler and uh cadaver kid they all kind of have like the bulgy eyeballs with the irises all were kind of a little inspired by uh rat fink they all kind of have that rat fink vibe going with the face i've been trying to move away from that with garbage car then with the with the new head i mean it's kind of still there and then i'm out but i'm trying to get away from the bulgy eyeballs and keep things progressing and trying to do new things and not not get hung up and do the same old thing so cool cool so have you [00:06:18] Speaker 1: got any plans for like new diggers or shows or uh whatever clubs coming up um i mean ideas for new heads [00:06:25] Speaker 2: for both diggler and cadaver kid um i'm in some i mean i i have some plans for some upcoming conventions uh there's gonna be a diggler at san diego through toy tokyo um so disgusting new york comic con um i'm planning on being in the upcoming uh photo show i think that's in may um yeah just trying to uh been busy i can't keep track of it all right now but stuff's coming stuff's coming [00:06:56] Speaker 1: up so great oh it's really great it's great to hear all that it's also great to see you know so many of your figures together in one place like that you know you can kind of see how they all fit together and and they're all right a little family the sport family the sport family [00:07:13] Speaker 2: giving hugs they're friendly that's like when when you're a kid and you went into the hobby store and you positioned all the gi joes and yeah actually suggestive manner oh dear you heard that here sexual [00:07:27] Speaker 1: sobby you heard it here first hey and by the way you guys this is a great restaurant if you're up or down here what's the name of this place 10 10 garden 10 garden is that right new york city 10 garden [00:07:39] Speaker 2: what streets are vegetarian we're on uh i don't know it's right off uh first avenue though i know that this that's like five minute walk from to [00:07:50] Speaker 1: to tokyo yeah yeah cool all right d allen street it's on allen street down allen street they got some really nice vegetarian food here avoid the edamame though edamame is no good dude you don't want that all right very fast and loose talk with joe here thank you joe thank you andy all right buddy my pleasure
