[0:00] to you with some breaking news that we've got from Gaza. [0:02] We were mentioning it before. [0:03] Our colleague from Al-Jazeera Mubasha, Mohamed Wisha, [0:06] has been killed after his car was hit in an Israeli drone strike. [0:12] We can see some of the pictures there that are apparently of his car, [0:16] the aftermath of that attack. [0:18] We understand, as I say, that it was an Israeli drone strike. [0:21] There have been many drone strikes that have been carried out by Israel [0:25] since the ceasefire was originally signed in October of last year. [0:33] You can see, again, these pictures of what appeared to be some sort of devastation, [0:40] the shell of the car there with the smoke coming out. [0:43] I want to come back to our two guests here. [0:45] Daniel, let me just bring this to you. [0:47] We've got to remember, of course, that Israel is carrying out in Lebanon. [0:51] It's carrying out attacks in the West Bank. [0:53] It has been carrying attacks in Iran. [0:55] And, of course, it is continuing to carry out attacks in Gaza as well. [1:01] Yeah, that is very concerning. [1:03] Obviously, the war with Iran has served as a distraction for Israel [1:08] to continue aggressions around its border and within the borders. [1:18] Yeah. [1:19] And so it is very concerning. [1:22] And, of course, this news of the Al Jazeera correspondent burning in his car. [1:27] And, of course, it is worth pointing out that this is, of course, [1:29] not the first time that a journalist has been killed in Gaza. [1:32] We don't yet know the full circumstances around this, [1:35] but it does sound as though, from the reports that we're getting on the ground, [1:38] that this Al Jazeera journalist has been killed, [1:41] one of several who have died not only in Gaza but also in coverage in the West Bank [1:47] and so on as well. [1:49] There must be concerns amongst the Gulf countries about freedom of speech, [1:53] but also these continued attacks on journalists. [1:57] Of course, the Gulf states are very concerned with Israel's conduct. [2:03] When it came to Gaza, of course, these journalists [2:06] and its revisionist policies across the region. [2:11] And that is actually one of the main fears of the Gulf states, [2:14] is how are they going to be able to manage Israel moving forward, [2:20] even after this war with Iran? [2:22] Yeah. [2:23] I want to go to our correspondent, Ibrahim Al-Khalili. [2:25] He's, unfortunately, I think we've lost our line to Ibrahim. [2:30] Paul, let me ask you this. [2:31] And this is part of a bigger picture as well, isn't it? [2:34] Because we have seen, as we were just talking about, [2:37] that there is a consistent targeting of journalists, [2:40] particularly by Israel. [2:41] But also, we have an issue as well with coverage from Iran, for example, [2:46] because there is an internet blackout. [2:48] It's very difficult to establish what is going on on the ground there. [2:52] And there is a bigger picture, isn't there, [2:54] about the people who are attempting to try to document [2:58] what is going on in these conflict areas, in Gaza, in Lebanon, [3:02] in the West Bank, and also in Iran, [3:04] where they are being targeted in order to stop them telling those stories. [3:08] That's exactly right. [3:10] And this is one of the tragedies of the world we find ourselves in. [3:13] And my heart goes out to the correspondent and to his family and his loved ones. [3:17] But this is, as you say, a broader story. [3:19] And when I try to think about what's going on in Iran [3:23] and this conflict more generally, [3:25] I have to realize that we are not getting the entire story [3:28] because it is so hard for information to get out. [3:31] And being unable to see what is happening in the world [3:34] makes it impossible for ordinary people, citizens around the world, [3:38] and even leaders to have a good idea about what's going on. [3:42] Paul, I'm going to interrupt you there [3:43] because we've got an opportunity to go to Ibrahim Al-Khalili, [3:45] who's joining us now from Gaza City. [3:48] Ibrahim, what more do we know about what's been happening? [3:54] Yeah. [3:55] While global attention remains fixed on both the ceasefire [3:58] that has been reached this morning by U.S. and Iran [4:02] and the escalating tensions in Lebanon, [4:05] Gaza has not shown any signs of respite. [4:08] A recent Israeli attack, [4:10] a targeted vehicle carrying the Al-Jazeera [4:13] Mubashir correspondent to Mohammed Weshach [4:17] and by killing Mohammed Weshach by the Israeli forces, [4:20] the numbers of Palestinian journalists killed [4:23] since the war broke out back on October 2023 [4:28] has risen to 262 journalists killed by the Israeli military. [4:35] The situation is getting much more dire here in Gaza City [4:39] in the light of the ongoing Israeli military ceasefire violations. [4:44] And let's remind our viewers that it's nearly six months [4:48] since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire took effect back in October 2025, [4:53] and the Israeli military ceasefire violations continue here [4:59] in the Gaza Strip, targeting journalists like Mohammed Weshach [5:03] who has been covering the Israeli genocidal war [5:06] on the Gaza Strip since day one. [5:09] And now he was targeted and brutally killed [5:12] while he was driving on the main road, [5:15] on the Rashid Road in Gaza City. [5:17] And this is a blatant ceasefire violation. [5:20] And the government media office says [5:22] that the Israeli military committed [5:24] around 2,000 ceasefire violations [5:28] since the ceasefire took effect here [5:30] in the besieged Gaza Strip. [5:32] It's not only that attack that targeted journalists [5:35] who have been relentlessly covering the ongoing attacks [5:39] and genocides carried out by the Israeli military [5:42] throughout the war and even after the war came to an end. [5:46] They have been covering since the last six months, [5:50] after six months of the ceasefire, [5:54] but now they ended up being targeted and brutally killed. [5:57] It's not that attack, [5:59] but only the Israeli military targeted a group of people [6:02] and a car carrying a group of people on Salah al-Din Road [6:06] east of Gaza City. [6:08] Two Palestinians were killed and dozens were injured [6:11] and ambulances and civil defence crews can't access that area [6:15] due to the proximity of the Yellow Line [6:19] and the Israeli military firing at anyone [6:24] who gets closer to that road, the Salah al-Din Road. [6:29] The situation remains here dire and the destruction [6:32] during the Iran War and Lebanon [6:35] only to lift the situation here in the Gaza Strip [6:42] to escalate more and more. [6:46] Ibrahim, just very briefly, I just want to ask you, [6:49] in terms of the ceasefire that you were mentioning earlier on, [6:52] which happened back in October, [6:54] has there been a change of attitude, if you like, [6:56] amongst the journalists who are working in and around Gaza [6:59] with regard to their safety. [7:02] Did they start to feel that there was less chance [7:04] of them being targeted because of the ceasefire [7:07] or are they using the same safety precautions [7:11] that they had been using during the war? [7:13] From the recent attacks that were carried out [7:20] by the Israeli military on journalists, [7:22] there's not any kind of safety measures [7:25] provided to Palestinian journalists. [7:28] They were killed and massacred during Israel's war [7:30] and now they are being targeted constantly [7:33] by the Israeli military after the ceasefire took effect. [7:38] Like, Palestinian journalists feel like they are a target [7:40] to the Israeli military for just telling the truth [7:44] and letting the world know what's happening here on the ground. [7:48] And the constant attacks on journalists here in Gaza [7:53] and as I said, the number has risen to 262 and not only in during the war, [7:59] but even after the ceasefire took effect, [8:02] the Israeli military targeted multiple journalists [8:04] while they were doing their jobs. [8:07] Some journalists were trying to film by a drone [8:10] in a very safe area and they were targeted [8:13] and brutally killed just by, just for them [8:16] to show the world the scale of devastation by a drone. [8:20] And they were ended up being targeted in a ceasefire [8:23] and there is not any guarantee for Palestinian journalists [8:26] to be targeted or not, [8:29] whether in during a war or a ceasefire [8:33] that has been reached back in October 2025. [8:37] They have been always and constantly been a target [8:41] for the Israeli military for just telling the truth. [8:45] Ibrahim Akhalili in Gaza City, thank you very much indeed.
