[0:40] It is Thursday, May 7th. [0:42] This is what you need to know. [0:43] Let's get right to the big story. [0:45] Residents in at least three states are now being monitored [0:48] for potential Hantavirus infections. [0:50] All of them returned from a cruise ship [0:52] that was struck by the deadly outbreak. [0:55] Public health officials in Georgia, Arizona, and California [0:58] say they are tracking passengers who were on board that ship [1:01] and have since traveled home. [1:03] So far, no one has shown any symptoms. [1:06] Meanwhile, the company that operates the ship [1:07] says 29 passengers disembarked on St. Helena [1:11] after the first death on board, [1:13] including a woman who later died in South Africa. [1:16] And now a new suspected case. [1:18] A KLM flight attendant in the Netherlands [1:20] has been hospitalized with mild symptoms [1:23] after brief contact with that woman. [1:26] Authorities across multiple countries [1:27] are now working to trace where other passengers may have gone. [1:31] Victor Akendo is tracking the latest. [1:33] Medical teams are monitoring the nearly 150 still on board, [1:37] including 17 Americans, [1:39] as they make their way to the Canary Islands in Spain. [1:41] The State Department telling ABC News, [1:43] the Trump administration has no higher priority [1:46] than the safety and security of Americans, [1:49] and they are ready to assist any affected Americans. [1:51] Officials in Iran are now reportedly reviewing a one-page proposal [1:55] from the Trump administration aimed at ending the war. [1:58] Sources telling ABC News, [1:59] the administration has sent Iran a one-page memorandum [2:03] laying the groundwork for 30 days of negotiations on major issues, [2:07] including the future of Iran's nuclear program. [2:09] The proposal calls for Iran to lift restrictions on ships [2:12] crossing the critical Strait of Pramuz. [2:14] In return, the U.S. would ease its blockade of Iranian ports. [2:18] Meanwhile, Iran's president says he recently met [2:20] with the country's supreme leader, [2:22] who has not been seen in public since taking power in March. [2:26] He reportedly was wounded in the attack that killed his father. [2:29] Secretary of State Marco Rubio has landed in Italy, [2:32] embarking on a diplomatic mission to the Vatican. [2:35] He's looking to ease tensions following President Trump's public feud [2:39] with the Pope over the war in Iran. [2:41] Rubio will also meet with the Italian prime minister, Georgia Maloney, [2:44] after she clashed with President Trump on defense and on trade. [2:48] Severe storms and possible tornadoes have torn through parts of Mississippi, [2:52] leaving behind widespread damage across the region. [2:55] Hundreds of homes were ripped apart, [2:57] trees toppled and debris scattered across neighborhoods. [2:59] Faith Abu Bay is in Purvis, Mississippi. [3:02] Yeah, it was a harrowing night for so many families in this area. [3:05] Hundreds of buildings and homes just like this one blown to shreds. [3:10] In this specific house here, the roof completely torn off. [3:13] You can see it here in the side yard, [3:15] and then the homes behind it also suffering the same damage. [3:18] Across Mississippi, many families reported being trapped in their homes during the storm. [3:23] Here in Purvis, the damage stretching for about two miles littered with down trees and power lines. [3:29] Overnight, three tornadoes hit here in Mississippi. [3:32] In Franklin County, winds were up to 180 miles per hour, [3:37] throwing debris an estimated 30,000 feet into the air. [3:41] The cold town Baptist church here in Lamar County was just about to start service when the sirens started going off. [3:46] The fellowship hall was destroyed. [3:49] The steeple was torn off from the roof, but thankfully, the pastor says everyone is okay. [3:54] The damage assessment, of course, is still going on. [3:56] But right now, officials say hundreds of homes were destroyed, [3:59] and at least 17 people have reported being injured. [4:03] So far this year, about 60 tornadoes have hit Mississippi, [4:07] but by far the storms we saw last night were the strongest. [4:10] More than 100 victims and businesses have now filed lawsuits over the UPS cargo plane crash in Louisville last year. [4:18] 15 people were killed after an engine detached from the plane. [4:22] The civil lawsuits claim UPS, Boeing, and others allowed the plane to fly in an unsafe condition, [4:27] crashing into a recycling facility. [4:30] Some of the people inside that facility spoke to ABC's Matt Rivers. [4:33] When I stood up and was completely engulfed in black smoke and flames, [4:39] I didn't think I was going to make it out of that building. [4:42] UPS and Boeing not commenting on the lawsuits, but they expressed support for those affected. [4:47] Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is out of the ICU after being hospitalized over the weekend. [4:53] According to a spokesperson, Giuliani is being treated for pneumonia, [4:57] adding his condition was complicated by a restrictive airway disease, [5:01] which he developed following his response to the September 11th attacks. [5:05] Let's get into what to watch, including a rare one-on-one interview with a Supreme Court justice. [5:11] Neil Gorsuch spoke to R. Lindsey Davis about facing personal attacks from President Trump [5:16] after he ruled against his tariffs. [5:18] Gorsuch says despite the criticism, he's determined to stay independent and fearless. [5:23] He reflected on the ideals of the Declaration of Independence, which helped build this country. [5:28] None of this is inevitable, and it won't, and it isn't inevitable that it will survive. [5:34] America's biggest enemy is itself, I believe. [5:39] We have to recommit generation after generation if we're going to carry those ideas forward. [5:44] What keeps me up at night is disagreements that we have, [5:49] and our sometimes incapacity to realize the humanity of the people we disagree with. [5:55] He calls the surge in personal attacks against judges dangerous, but says criticism comes with the job. [6:01] Watch the full interview with Justice Gorsuch on All Access with Lindsey Davis, [6:06] streaming on Disney Plus and on Hulu. [6:08] And we have much more of what you need to know. [6:36] Sources say that the raid is part of a corruption and bribery investigation dating back [6:40] to the Biden administration and may involve bribery tied to marijuana dispensaries. [6:45] Agents also served a warrant at a nearby cannabis business. [6:48] Lucas helped lead Virginia's effort to redraw its congressional maps to favor Democrats just two weeks ago.
