'Who Won The 2020 Election?': Blumenthal Gets Extremely Fed Up With Trump Judicial Nominees

[0:01] senator boom with all thanks mr chairman uh the trainer thank you for your service thanks for [0:09] being here today thank you who won the 2020 election judge trainer senator this issue has [0:18] become a question of political controversy i'm a sitting federal district judge i'm a nominee to [0:24] the eighth circuit court of appeals and justice jackson who previously was confirmed by the senate [0:29] um for a position if i may interrupt you judge because my time is limited it's political [0:38] controversy only because the president refuses to accept the results of the 2020 election i'm [0:45] asking you as a matter of fact who won the 2020 election well senator is as justice jackson stated [0:53] in her responses to questions in the record um it is not appropriate to engage in discussion regarding [1:00] that as a judge so you're going to use the same script that other nominees have used before this [1:07] panel to avoid the question senator i think the precedents established by justice jackson and [1:15] other nominees is something that i need to follow as a matter of fact who got more votes in 2020 [1:24] which of the presidential candidates senator as i stated before um this is an issue that justice [1:33] is jackson and other nominees have been asked they've not provided a response you under you understand [1:40] why i'm asking you to state as a simple matter of fact who got more votes the reason is that the [1:50] president seeks to perpetuate a lie you are in effect protecting the lie if you fail to take an [2:01] independent position as a matter of simple fact everybody in this room knows the answer you're [2:08] unwilling to state it instead adopting a script that's been dictated to you by the white house [2:16] you prepared this answer with the white house did you not senator i prepared the answer based upon [2:23] the response provided by justice jackson you consulted with the white house before you invoke [2:29] justice jackson that's the script as you well know that nominees sitting where you are right now have [2:36] used again and again and again let me ask you was the capital attacked on january 6th senator the [2:50] actions on january 6th were deeply troubling to watch but i'm not going to characterize it beyond you've [3:00] watched the videos you've seen the pictures you know about the injuries done to capitol police law [3:12] enforcement who took the same oath you did as a district court judge and you were unwilling to state [3:19] that the capa was attacked on january 6th senator i as a federal district judge i've had cases relating to [3:28] that issue pending before me i just don't know that let me just be very clear judge i am i am absolutely [3:36] astonished because you are in a position of trust right now you are supposed to be in a position of [3:47] consummate independence you sit here already with a lifetime appointment and you are unwilling to state [3:54] an independent view on a factual matter that everybody in this room everyone watching knows the right answer [4:04] to you're here to demonstrate your independence and instead you are in effect protecting and perpetuating [4:19] a lie that the capitol was not attacked that's what the president seems to believe that's the loyalty that [4:27] he demands of you and you are putting loyalty to the president above fidelity to the constitution and the [4:35] truth i don't know how you can continue as a district court judge let alone serve on the court of appeals [4:44] you have the protection already of a lifetime appointment and you're unwilling to tell the [4:49] truth to this committee i think that frankly it's shameful thank you mr chairman
