[2:48] It sounds like the finest opera hall in anywhere in the world. [2:54] Let's come back here more often. [2:56] So often you have sound systems that aren't the greatest. [2:59] And there's nothing worse than making a speech when nobody can hear you. [3:03] This is beautiful and it's a great place. [3:05] And Memphis has to like me because I have a lot of friends here. [3:10] And they were not happy a year ago, two years ago, four years ago. [3:14] And now they said we can't believe what's happened in terms of crime, in terms of what's gone on and the job that these people and some of the great people, many of the great people in the audience have done. [3:30] And that's why I'm here today. [3:32] In fact, we were going to cancel because we have a couple of events going on, as you probably noticed. [3:37] So they said, oh, we'll cancel Memphis. [3:39] We can. [3:39] I said, we're not canceling Memphis for anything. [3:43] We're not canceling. [3:44] We're not going to cancel Memphis. [3:51] But we do have some big things happening and very positive, I have to say. [3:55] So before getting to our important discussion this morning, let me provide a brief update on Operation Epic Fury, which is a very good name, as it turns out. [4:06] That was a name they showed me. [4:07] Twenty names, sir. [4:09] What name would you like? [4:10] I didn't like any of them. [4:12] And then I get toward the end. [4:13] I said, you've got to be kidding. [4:14] What? [4:16] Operation Epic Fury. [4:17] I love that name. [4:19] And it's very appropriate for what's taking place, if you know, and in Iran, because we knocked out their Navy, we knocked out their Air Force, we knocked out their anti aircraft, we knocked out everything. [4:32] And we did it with fury, actually, as I announced earlier, based on preliminary conversations between the United States and Iran over the past two days. [4:41] I've directed the Department of War to temporarily postpone planned strikes against major energy and electricity targets in Iran. [4:50] They have very, very big, new, actually, and very expensive billions of dollars that cost to build them one missile, one of our powerful ones. [4:59] And it comes down to the ground like it was made out of dust. [5:04] But to determine whether a broader agreement can be reached, we've had very good discussions, very, very good discussions. [5:10] And you have to understand, I know my whole life has been a mess. [5:13] My whole life has been a negotiation. [5:15] But with Iran, we've been negotiating for a long time, and this time they mean business. [5:21] And it's only because of the great job that our military did is the reason they mean business. [5:27] They want to settle, and we're going to get it done, I hope. [5:33] So hopefully this will be possible. [5:37] But no matter what, we'll ensure that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon. [5:41] They can't have a nuclear weapon. [5:43] They would have had one if we allowed the Obama deal to stand. [5:49] That was the Iran nuclear deal, they called it. [5:50] They would have had one, Marsha 3. [5:53] I'll tell you what, Martha, we would have nuclear weapons up there when, would you say, two years ago, three years ago, or four years ago? [6:03] We would have been in a position that nobody wants to be in. [6:07] We won't allow ourselves to be in that position. [6:10] Over the past three weeks, the United States military and our partners have been decimating Iran's military capabilities [6:18] with overwhelming firepower, skill, lethality, and force. [6:22] And we're destroying their ballistic missiles and drones programs with launchers down by more than 90 percent. [6:30] We're hitting their launchers at a level that nobody even thought of before, 90 percent. [6:35] They can't launch them, and they don't have very many of them, because most of them have been annihilated. [6:43] But we've annihilated their defense industrial base, eliminating their navy. [6:47] We had 158 ships sit down. [6:49] I said to my people, why didn't you capture the ship? [6:53] I said, were they good or not? [6:55] They said, they were great. [6:55] They were great. [6:55] They were great, sir. [6:56] So why didn't you capture it? [6:57] We could have used them. [6:59] They said, it's more fun to put them at the bottom of the sea. [7:04] But they're not there anymore. [7:05] So we eliminated their navy, Pete, right? [7:08] And that's gone. [7:09] We eliminated their air force. [7:10] We eliminated all of their air defense, everything. [7:15] We eliminated everything there is to eliminate, and we eliminated them. [7:20] We eliminated their leaders. [7:21] We had the first set of leaders. [7:25] They're gone. [7:27] Then they met, 88 people met. [7:29] And it's sad. [7:30] I mean, it's sad they couldn't have made a deal. [7:32] We could have made a deal with them a long time ago. [7:36] Then the second set, 88 people met to pick a new leader, and they're now extinguished. [7:42] And then they're meeting again. [7:43] But now nobody wants to be the leader. [7:45] It's one of the few political jobs that nobody wants anywhere in the world. [7:49] Nobody wants it. [7:50] It's a very dangerous job. [7:51] My job is dangerous, too, but their job is worse. [7:55] In other words, we're systematically dismantling the regime's ability to threaten America. [8:00] They're not threatening us anymore. [8:03] As Commander-in-Chief, it's my sacred responsibility to protect our country from all threats. [8:09] For decades, Iran refused every opportunity to renounce its nuclear ambitions, and in [8:14] recent months, its own negotiators bragged to our representatives about having enough [8:19] material to make nuclear weapons, and that was supposed to deter me, but it didn't deter. [8:26] It made me more anxious, and it just made it much more important. [8:31] This mission that we're all on together was much more important. [8:34] Thank you. [8:35] Thank you. [8:36] And we did it quicker. [8:37] Iran's missile capabilities were also growing so fast that it would soon have become virtually [8:43] impossible to stop them. [8:44] Once they have a missile, once they have — what they were building was incredible. [8:48] And you got a little glimpse of it by the fact that, when they came out, they started [8:53] shooting all of their neighbors. [8:54] Their neighbors weren't fighting with them. [8:56] They were getting along OK with their neighbors. [8:59] And I was surprised. [9:00] They were su- — everybody was surprised. [9:02] And it actually worked in reverse, because their neighbors then turned against them. [9:07] Now, Iran has one more opportunity to end its threats [9:11] to America and her allies, and we hope they take it. [9:15] Either way, America and the entire world will soon be much safer [9:19] and will be a much more secure planet. [9:24] In addition to all of this, [9:26] we're working on so many different things. [9:28] You know, our economy was fantastic. [9:30] We had a Dow at 50,000. [9:32] They say it couldn't happen in four years. [9:35] It wouldn't happen during my term. [9:37] But if I got anywhere close, [9:39] it would be a great success. [9:41] Well, in my first year, we hit 50,000. [9:44] And with the S&P, they said, even more difficult, [9:48] they said it would be impossible to hit 7,000 on the S&P. [9:53] And we hit that in our first term. [9:56] And then, unfortunately, I came — I called Pete. [9:59] I called General Cain. [10:00] I called a lot of our great people. [10:02] We have great people. [10:03] And I said, let's talk. [10:05] We got a problem in the Middle East. [10:07] We have a country known as Iran that, for 47 years, [10:12] has been just a purveyor of terror. [10:15] And they're very close to having a nuclear weapon. [10:18] We can keep going and get that 50,000 up to 55 and 60. [10:22] There's no end. [10:24] Or we can take a stop and make a little journey [10:26] into the Middle East and eliminate a big problem. [10:30] And, Pete, I think you were the first one to speak up. [10:34] And you said, let's do it, [10:35] because you can't let them have a nuclear weapon. [10:39] So we are now having really good discussions. [10:42] They started last. [10:42] The Press. [11:07] We were planning tomorrow on shooting down some of [11:11] their power plants, and we're not going to be. [11:13] We're going to hold that up. [11:14] Hopefully, we won't have to do it. [11:16] And hopefully, we can make a deal. [11:17] That's good for all of us, including the Middle [11:20] Eastern allies that have been very good to us, [11:23] including Israel. [11:24] That's been a great partner in this fight. [11:27] They've really been a good partner in the fight. [11:29] They fought hard. [11:31] But we'll see what happens. [11:32] I think there's a very good chance we're going to [11:33] end up in a deal. [11:35] And so we're giving it five days, and then we're [11:38] going to see where that takes us. [11:39] And I would say, at the end of this period, I think [11:42] it could very well end up being a very good deal for [11:46] everybody, as good as if we went all the way. [11:49] It just literally annihilated the place, [11:51] which, if we don't have to do that, that would be a [11:55] good thing, not a bad thing. [11:56] In addition, after the appalling lines and [12:00] massive disruptions at major airports nationwide [12:03] last weekend, I am again demanding that Democrats [12:06] in Congress immediately end their disgraceful [12:09] shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security and [12:12] restore the full funding for airport security and [12:15] the TSA. [12:17] They are holding it up because they want to take [12:20] care of the land. [12:21] Legal immigrants coming into our country. [12:23] They want to take care of criminals that are in [12:26] sanctuary cities. [12:28] They want to take care of transgender for everybody [12:31] — literally, the mutilization of our [12:33] children, men in women's sports. [12:37] But what they don't want to do is give us anything to [12:39] do with citizenship for voting or voter ID. [12:45] Can you imagine? [12:46] We're the only country that doesn't do voter ID. [12:48] Every country does voter ID. [12:51] You know, it brought to my attention today that [12:55] we're the only country that does mail-in voting. [12:59] Mail-in voting means mail-in cheating. [13:00] I call it mail-in cheating. [13:03] And we got to do something about it all. [13:05] And it's part of Homeland Security. [13:07] And I'm suggesting strongly to the [13:09] Republican Party, don't make any deal on anything. [13:13] The most important thing we can have is what's [13:15] called the Save America Act. [13:17] Don't make any deal on anything unless you [13:19] include voter ID, and you have to be a [13:23] citizen to vote. [13:24] You have to show citizenship to vote. [13:27] Very easy to do. [13:28] It's very insulting when they say people can't do [13:31] it because they don't know how to do it. [13:33] Anybody that can't do it, I think it's a very [13:35] insulting thing to say. [13:37] The Democrats are fully to blame with the struggle [13:40] of the great American public is going through [13:43] at the airports. [13:44] They're going through a big struggle right now. [13:45] And we just put ICE in charge, and they're [13:49] helping TSA, the agents, and they're working [13:52] together so far very well. [13:54] I actually suggested that, you know, we're going to [13:56] do it. [13:57] And in the airports, they take off their masks, and [13:58] they did that. [14:00] In the airports, I didn't like it. [14:01] I'm a big believer in the mask because we have, you [14:04] know, Biden allowed hundreds of thousands of [14:07] killers into our country. [14:09] We're rapidly getting them out, by the way. [14:12] But they would go after these people if they knew [14:16] exactly who they were. [14:17] But in the airports, it's different. [14:19] I didn't like it. [14:20] I didn't love the look in the airport as you get off [14:22] the plane. [14:23] So I made a request, and they agreed to it. [14:26] So they're not going to be doing that. [14:27] We will also bring out, if we don't have enough, [14:30] we will bring out the National Guard and, you [14:32] know, where we need it to help out at the airports. [14:36] But we're not going to let this happen. [14:38] It's extortion by the Democrats. [14:40] They're holding up money that's already been [14:42] approved, and now they're willing to go $5 billion [14:45] reduction in ICE in order to get the approval on a [14:49] deal that they approved, the great, big, beautiful [14:51] deal, which is the biggest tax cut in history, the [14:54] biggest regulation cut in history. [14:57] They want to basically renegotiate a deal. [14:59] That they already approved. [15:01] And they're doing it for, largely, for a criminal [15:04] element. [15:06] So, also, the Democrats are putting our country at [15:09] great risk during this period of time, a period [15:13] that they call a war. [15:14] They call it a war. [15:15] We call it a military operation. [15:18] Their leaders during this time are, as you know, as [15:23] you want to say, they're in a never-never land. [15:26] Schumer is gone. [15:27] I mean, he's a Palestinian. [15:29] He should be fighting on the side of Palestine. [15:32] He's actually become a Palestinian leader. [15:34] I don't know. [15:35] I've never seen a man change so much. [15:38] He used to be pro-Israel. [15:39] Now he's pro-Palestine. [15:40] I've never seen anything like it. [15:42] And, you know, he's worried he's going to lose [15:44] this next election, which it only depends if anybody [15:47] runs against him. [15:48] If anybody runs against him, he'll lose. [15:51] But he's gone very wacky and very dangerous for our [15:55] country. [15:57] But we want all of those things. [15:58] We have to have them. [15:59] We want voter ID. [16:01] We want proof of citizenship as part of our [16:03] funding. [16:04] We want to merge them so that we can get the great, [16:07] big, beautiful bill in action and we can get the [16:11] America and Save America. [16:14] You know, they called it the Save Act, but nobody [16:17] knew what the Save Act was. [16:18] So I said, you have to call it. [16:20] You have to, under any circumstances, you have to [16:23] call it the Save America Act, because everybody [16:27] knows what that is. [16:29] So they want funding taken away from the ICE [16:32] patriots who are responsible for getting [16:35] rid of the criminals that sleepy Joe Biden, the [16:38] worst president in the history of our country, and [16:41] his gang of thugs in the White House. [16:44] You talk about weaponization, they [16:46] weaponized everybody. [16:47] You know, when we even look, when Pam looks at [16:50] somebody, oh, it's weaponization. [16:53] They've indicted me. [16:54] They what they've done to me and everybody else. [16:58] It's a disgrace. [16:59] They're the weaponizers. [17:00] And what they've done to people can never let that [17:03] happen again. [18:03] In any event, the Democrats are being blamed [18:05] by the American people for the catastrophe going on [18:09] right now at our airports and at other points of [18:12] transportation and beyond. [18:21] And I'm suggesting very strongly that the [18:23] Republicans, in going for the Save America Act, that [18:28] you weld it into exactly this, because voter ID is [18:33] part of homeland security. [18:36] Think of it. [18:37] We're talking about two separate items, but [18:39] they're really the same. [18:40] Voter ID is part of homeland security. [18:44] And citizenship, proof of citizenship. [18:46] It's part of homeland security. [18:49] So I think it should be welded in. [18:51] I think it should be together. [18:52] You should vote together, because the public has not [18:56] liked what they've done at the airports. [18:58] And they've done it, and the public understands it. [19:01] They've gotten wise to them. [19:02] Republicans do not settle with Democrats and let [19:06] them out of this hole that they've buried themselves in. [19:10] You have to take the votes in the Senate to approve. [19:13] You need votes to approve. [19:15] We have to get Democrat votes, and at a certain [19:17] point, we have to get Democrat votes. [20:12] Everybody knows we have the greatest, most [20:14] powerful military in the world. [20:16] And we're in a position that we haven't [20:20] seen. [20:20] We're respected. [20:21] You know, our country now is respected all over the [20:24] world. [20:25] A year and a half ago, we were a laughingstock. [20:29] We were a laughingstock. [20:30] The King of Saudi Arabia told me a year and a half [20:32] ago, he said, President, I can't believe what's [20:36] happened to America. [20:39] One year ago, you were a laughingstock. [20:41] Nobody thought you could ever, ever survive. [20:46] Now you're the hottest country. [20:47] Use that expression. [20:48] He said, now you're the hottest country anywhere [20:50] in the world. [20:51] And we are now. [20:52] Congratulations. [20:52] Because we're all partners in this deal. [20:55] You're the hottest country anywhere in the world. [20:58] It's really amazing. [20:59] So I congratulate you. [21:00] It's a great feeling because we were laughed at [21:03] for four years with this guy that should have never [21:06] been president. [21:08] So I'm tying Homeland Security into voter [21:11] identification with picture and proof of [21:14] citizenship in order to vote. [21:18] And those two items are the most important thing [21:20] having to do with Homeland Security. [21:22] So it's part. [21:23] It should be part of the Homeland Security bill. [21:27] And I'm requesting that the Republican senators do [21:29] that immediately. [21:31] You don't have to take a fast vote. [21:33] Don't worry about Easter going home. [21:44] The most important part of Homeland Security is [21:46] voter ID and proof of citizenship. [21:49] Nobody can vote on Homeland Security without [21:52] voter ID or proof of citizenship. [22:03] So now, if you don't mind, let's get to the reason [22:06] why I'm in Memphis and why you're doing so well. [22:10] Because Fred Smith, everybody know Fred Smith? [22:13] He was a friend of mine, and he created from a sort [22:18] of failed report at like Harvard or whatever. [22:21] He did a business report, a concept he had that was [22:24] his thesis. [22:25] A concept he had to build a company, and it was FedEx. [22:30] So he gave this thing where he takes packages, [22:32] he delivers them. [22:33] Who the heck knows what he put down? [22:35] Bottom line is, they gave him a lousy mark. [22:37] I don't know if they passed him or not, but [22:39] they didn't give him a good mark. [22:41] They said, this is the most ridiculous business [22:43] plan we've ever seen. [22:45] Fred, go back to the drawing board and try [22:47] something else, because this won't work. [22:49] Well, he decided to go for it, and he built FedEx. [22:52] And it's an amazing story, and he was a very good [22:55] friend of mine, but he would tell me that he [22:57] didn't know what to do about Memphis. [22:59] It was so dangerous that they would have a board [23:02] meeting, and the board members, they were [23:05] demanded that they could not walk one block to [23:08] their hotel. [23:09] You know the hotel I'm talking about. [23:11] It was so dangerous. [23:13] And now they tell me this is like an entirely [23:15] different place. [23:16] It's like Washington, D.C. [23:18] In Washington, D.C., we had the same thing, and now [23:22] it's amazing. [23:23] It's such an honor to them. [23:27] If only more governors. [23:29] Your governor called, and he said, we love it. [23:32] Your mayor has been terrific. [23:34] Your mayor has been terrific. [23:36] But look at the results that you've got. [23:38] Look at the results. [23:43] And everybody should do it. [23:44] You know, if I were Chicago, Pritzker, he's a [23:47] failed governor. [23:48] All he has to do is say, President, we're having a [23:51] problem in Chicago. [23:53] Could you come in and fix it? [23:54] We'd have it fixed in two months. [23:58] It would be good in two months. [24:00] It would be great in four months. [24:02] You'd have almost no crime. [24:03] But he can't do it. [24:05] And it just keeps going the same way. [24:08] So that's the reason I'm here, to tell you how well [24:12] you've done, how well we've done. [24:14] I mean, I just came in, and people greeted me. [24:24] And your sheriffs are so thankful. [24:27] And, oh, you haven't seen it yet. [24:29] You know, we've just been here a short while. [24:31] In another two or three months, you're going to [24:33] have, like, no crime. [24:34] And, you know, we take these criminals. [24:37] Is that our handsome senator down there, Bill? [24:42] Is that our handsome senator, Bill? [24:45] You got both of them down. [24:47] But you're going to have a new governor here soon, I [24:48] guess, huh? [25:10] Last September, my administration launched the [25:13] initiative modeled on D.C. [25:15] Safe Task Force in our nation's capital. [25:18] One of the most amazing things. [25:20] I mean, I hate to say it. [25:21] Now I can say it. [25:22] But our nation's capital was one of the most [25:25] dangerous places on Earth. [25:27] People were being killed that go in from Iowa. [25:30] They go from Indiana to see the Washington [25:32] Monument. [25:34] And their parents would get a phone call. [25:35] They've been killed. [25:37] And it was happening a lot. [25:38] It was really bad. [25:39] And like this, actually, yours was at a level [25:43] higher, to be honest with you. [25:44] It was really bad. [25:45] But it was happening a lot. [25:47] And now you walk down Washington, it's like [25:50] everybody that sees me in Washington, we've been [25:52] doing that another couple of months longer. [25:54] Everybody sees me in Washington, they say, [25:57] thank you, sir. [25:58] Thank you. [25:59] And I immediately know what? [26:00] You know, they could thank me for a lot of things. [26:03] I said, are they thanking me for the economy? [26:05] I know immediately we have people working in the [26:08] White House, young women. [26:10] They walk, I would say, normally beautiful young [26:13] women, ever since I got elected. [26:14] I don't like to say that. [26:15] Because usually when you say a beautiful woman, [26:19] isn't she beautiful? [26:20] That's the end of your political career. [26:21] So I never say that. [26:23] But young women coming up to me and they're saying, [26:26] sir, thank you so much. [26:28] I know immediately what they're talking about. [26:30] I say, how big a difference is it? [26:32] They say, we walk to work. [26:35] We were afraid to walk into an Uber. [26:37] We were afraid to walk into a car. [26:39] The car would be what didn't matter. [26:41] The car was being robbed when we were in the car. [26:45] And it was much more than being robbed. [26:46] Being robbed was the least of it. [26:48] And we took out over 3,000 people. [26:53] And you know, there's an expression that 90% of the [26:57] crime is caused by 2% of the population. [27:02] And when you hear that, you realize why we can do [27:04] such a good job. [27:05] We moved 3,000 people out, permanently out of [27:08] Washington. [27:09] These were career criminals. [27:10] Many of them came in through the Biden open [27:14] border disaster. [27:16] They came in. [27:17] They weren't there. [27:18] They came in. [27:18] They said, we want to live in Washington, where [27:21] they'll take good care of us, give us plenty of [27:23] welfare. [27:24] And we got them all out. [27:26] We moved them back to their countries. [27:28] Sometimes we'd put them in prison because they were [27:30] so dangerous. [27:31] We had one person who killed four people in a [27:34] short period of time. [27:36] Many of the people, 11,888, 50% of them in our [27:42] country, they came from jails. [28:26] So we brought together 22 federal agencies, state [28:30] and local police, and 1,500 members of the incredible [28:34] National Guard to smash the grip of the violent [28:38] criminals on this iconic American city. [28:41] The city is incredible. [28:42] People love it so much, but they're so, they're [28:45] just fed up. [28:46] They can't, they can't stay. [28:48] And now they're staying. [28:49] I had somebody backstage say, sir, I was ready to [28:51] leave, and now we're staying. [28:53] I said, don't worry, it's going to get much better. [28:55] It just takes a little bit of time. [28:56] A little more time. [28:57] Like our D.C. [28:58] efforts, the Memphis Task Force has been led by our [29:01] Director of U.S. [29:02] Marshal Services, Gaddy Siralta, who is [29:05] incredible. [29:06] Where's Gaddy? [29:07] Gaddy, you are unbelievable. [29:08] And I want to thank you for the work. [29:11] He did a job in Washington. [29:13] So when I heard Memphis, I said, I want the same guy [29:16] that did Washington, because that went, you're [29:19] going to tell us when you get up which was more [29:21] difficult, all right? [29:22] But members known all over the world as the home of [29:26] Graceland, you know I'm going to see [29:27] Graceland after this? [29:29] I think, is that right? [29:31] I love Elvis. [29:33] I never met Elvis. [29:34] Everyone said, did you? [29:35] I met them all. [29:36] I met Sinatra. [29:37] I knew all of them. [29:38] I never met Elvis. [29:39] Sometimes I feel I should tell the little fibs that I [29:42] knew him well. [29:44] I love Elvis, but I never met him. [29:46] But I'm going to go see Graceland after this, I [29:48] think. [29:49] I'm sure it's not going to be a very long stay, but I [29:52] want to see that. [29:53] But for years prior to our involvement, Memphis had [29:56] become known for something else, being the murder [29:59] capital of the USA. [30:00] That's not a good title. [30:02] It was averaging far more than one murder per day, [30:06] with a crime rate higher than Columbia, Mexico City, [30:09] or Baghdad. [30:10] In the year, I shouldn't be saying this, because, [30:13] but here's the good news, it's been fixed, all right? [30:16] I hate to say this because it's so negative. [30:19] It's so negative. [30:21] In the year before I took office, Memphis saw more [30:24] than 12,500 violent assaults, 429 rapes, and [30:29] 7,600 burglaries. [30:31] And armed robberies. [30:33] And, I mean, it was getting worse. [30:36] This catastrophe was the result of years of local [30:40] politicians, judges, and prosecutors who sided with [30:44] violent criminals over law-abiding citizens. [30:47] Basically, liberals, or now they like to go with the [30:50] word progressives. [30:52] You don't hear liberal. [30:52] They're liberal. [30:54] I don't like progressive because it's a beautiful [30:55] word. [30:56] You know, they use progressive because [30:58] that's the only thing they're good at. [30:59] Politics, I guess. [31:01] You know, they're bad at politics. [31:03] They're bad at policy because all these policies [31:05] are bad, but they're great at politics. [31:07] And they do stick together. [31:09] They stick together. [31:10] They're good at politics, but they're bad at policy [31:14] because they can't sell open borders. [31:16] They can't sell transgender for everyone. [31:20] They can't sell men and women's sport. [31:22] So they can be the greatest politicians in the world. [31:25] And that's why I'm here instead of them, I guess. [31:29] But just as we have in D.C., here in Memphis, [31:31] we've achieved one of the largest, fastest, [31:34] best credit lines in violent crime ever recorded. [31:38] So that's something, right? [31:40] Ever recorded. [31:44] In fact, you're a half a percentage point away from [31:47] the record. [31:47] So we'll catch them in the next month or two. [31:49] All right? [31:50] I think that's going to happen. [31:51] But that includes a 60 percent drop in robberies, [31:54] a 74 percent drop in carjacking, and motor [31:57] vehicle thefts. [31:58] We have always achieved numbers that are good. [32:02] These numbers are right on line to be among the best [32:05] that we've done. [32:05] And wherever we do this, we've done it. [32:07] We have very similar results. [32:10] We were in New Orleans, where the governor called [32:13] us, as you know. [32:14] And we went to New Orleans. [32:15] They just had Mardi Gras. [32:17] They said it's the first — it sounds terrible, but [32:20] it's the first Mardi Gras we've ever had where [32:23] there was no murder. [32:24] Can you imagine? [32:25] It doesn't sound too good, but, you know, we're [32:28] talking about the facts. [32:29] And they said we had the lowest crime that we've [32:32] ever had on Mardi Gras, which is almost nothing. [32:36] We went there about four months ago. [32:37] We did a great job. [32:38] So we've achieved a 72 percent reduction in [32:42] murders from the peak in this place. [32:45] In total, we've arrested 7,000 criminals, seized [32:49] more than 1,100 illegal guns, taken more than 1,000 [32:54] pounds of illicit narcotics, and rescued [32:57] more than 150 missing children, making their [33:02] parents beyond happy. [33:09] So I'd like you to please join me in thanking, [33:14] I tell you, every single law enforcement hero here [33:17] today — we have a number of — a small number [33:21] compared to what's doing the job — who helped [33:23] make Memphis safe again. [33:25] Memphis, just so you know, with all of the things [33:27] we said, you have now developed a reputation as [33:32] a city that's coming back stronger than any city in [33:35] the country because of what's happened with crime [33:38] and because your political leaders had the courage to [33:40] do what they did. [33:41] So I'd like you to also say a special welcome to [33:49] the Tennessee National Guard, the Memphis Police [33:54] Department, ICE, CBP, the ATF, DEA, Homeland Security [34:01] Investigations, the U.S. [34:03] Marshals, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and all of [34:07] law enforcement. [34:08] Everybody got together and they said, we're going to [34:11] make Memphis great again. [34:13] And they really did. [34:14] It's so good. [34:15] But, you know, I talk about how good it is. [34:18] We're at 75 percent. [34:20] Some people say 80, 81 percent. [34:22] That still leaves 20 percent. [34:24] You're going to be down — in another two months, [34:26] three months, I think, Addie, we're going to be [34:28] down — we're going to be down to almost no — [34:31] you're going to be an almost crime-free city. [41:56] And it'll be record-setting in a very [41:59] short period of time. [42:00] And I'll be here to celebrate it with you. [42:02] You know, it's a very special state to me. [42:04] I won this state bill by numbers that nobody has [42:07] ever won it before. [42:08] We have the all-time record for votes. [42:11] So I happen to like the state. [42:13] I love Tennessee. [43:06] Because some of these people are bad people that [43:08] should have never been allowed to be here. [43:10] Since I took office, we have successfully arrested [43:13] or removed from the country over 500,000 hard [43:17] line criminals. [43:19] And under our leadership last year, the murder rate [43:22] nationwide saw the single largest decline ever [43:26] recorded to the lowest level in 125 years. [43:30] That's something. [43:32] That's something. [43:32] And this is despite the fact that they allowed 25 [43:37] million people into our country. [43:39] Many of those people should never have been [43:41] allowed into our country. [43:43] So now I'd like to ask Director Gaddi Seralta, [43:47] who's really a special guy. [43:49] And I've lived with him because of Washington, D.C. [43:52] I saw what he did. [43:53] But to say a few words, and congratulations for [43:56] what you've done everywhere. [43:57] But today, we're only interested in one place, [44:00] Memphis, Tennessee. [44:01] Thank you very much. [44:02] Mr. President, thank you very much. [44:09] So good morning to you and thank you, Mr. President. [44:11] Today, we celebrate the successes of this [44:14] incredible mission and all our federal, state, local, [44:20] and National Guard teammates who have [44:23] contributed mightily to the Memphis Safe Task Force. [44:28] Mr. President, it is an honor to be entrusted by [44:30] you to lead this amazing task force as Director of [44:34] the United States Marshal Service. [44:36] Your decisiveness in responding to the [44:39] state and local leaders' requests for federal [44:43] assistance is inspiring. [44:46] It was just over six months ago when you signed the [44:50] executive order restoring law and order in Memphis. [44:54] At that point, the city of Memphis was overwhelmed [44:57] with unprecedented levels of violent crime to include [45:01] some of the nation's highest per capita rates of [45:05] murder, robbery, and aggravated assault. [45:08] Memphis residents could not safely enjoy a walk downtown. [45:14] Parents were fearful of their children's [45:16] playing outside, and local businesses struggled to prosper. [45:25] The mission you gave us was clear and concise. [45:29] Crime will not prevail in Memphis, period. [45:34] The city will not be surrendered to lawlessness. [45:37] President Trump, thank you for your leadership. [45:40] We had a blueprint, quickly restoring order and [45:43] reducing violent crime given our success with [45:46] Operation Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful, as you mentioned. [45:50] We began our deployment to Memphis. [45:52] And commenced operations on September 29, 2025, [45:56] with 20 partner agencies and 200 task force members. [46:02] Now, we partner with 33 multi-agency teams [46:06] throughout the Memphis area. [46:12] We have the support of over 2,700 officers and [46:16] National Guard members who comprise the Memphis Safe [46:20] Task Force, most of which are out here in the audience. [46:24] In just over six months, the Memphis Safe Task Force [46:27] has made over $1.5 million. [46:28] We have 7,342 arrests, this is last week's numbers, [46:33] with charges ranging from homicide, there was 44 of those, [46:41] 94 drug offenses, I'm sorry, 812 drug offenses, [46:45] and 757 gang-related offenses. [46:49] We have seized over 1,200 illegal firearms, [46:53] and located and returned 150 missing children. [46:58] Each of these arrests and seizures of illegal contraband [47:02] have a ripple effect, bringing justice [47:06] to victims, relief to communities, [47:08] and the prevention of future offenses or deadly accidents. [47:13] Our work, however, has not just been about arrests [47:17] and the seizure of illegal firearms and narcotics. [47:20] Our Tennessee National Guard partners have made [47:22] a significant impact while serving on the task force [47:26] by administering several life-saving doses of Narcan [47:30] to overdose victims, chasing down and detaining [47:34] a fleeing murder suspect on Christmas Day, [47:38] and providing immediate life-saving medical [47:40] aid to the occupants of a vehicle collision on I-40. [47:44] That's just a few of the things they've done. [47:46] Similarly, our Health and Human Services Tactical Med, [47:51] we call them TacMed, they're our doctors, [47:55] their team has treated almost 500 task force officers [47:59] and related injuries during our operations. [48:04] The fraud cell, the Memphis Safe Task Force Fraud Cell, [48:08] has been a key contributor in targeting federal benefits fraud, [48:11] organized crime, and other complex fraud matters. [48:14] The fraud cell has more than 80 open investigations, [48:18] 33 cases active with the United States Attorney's Office. [48:23] Their recent efforts have resulted in two indictments [48:26] of convicted sex offenders living in housing paid for [48:31] by Housing and Urban Development and one indictment [48:35] for stealing benefits from a Social Security beneficiary. [48:38] I would also like to recognize the work of Attorney General [48:43] Bondi's incredible staff at the Western District of Tennessee, [48:47] their stats tell a remarkable story as well. [48:54] They have increased the number of defendants charged by 221% [49:00] and the number of cases indicted by 204% when compared [49:05] to the same operational period last year. [49:08] I see you smiling, Mike, congratulations. [49:12] Without question, the public safety outlook [49:21] in Memphis has improved dramatically. [49:24] In the past six months collectively, [49:25] our efforts have resulted in a 43% reduction [49:29] in the number of serious crimes, 37% reduction in murder, [49:33] 40% reduction in sexual assault, 56% reduction in robbery, [49:40] 68% reduction in motor vehicle thefts, [49:45] and the most impressive of all is a 65% increase [49:49] in the solvability of the crimes that have been committed. [49:54] These numbers are so impressive that it's often easy [49:58] to just recite them without reflecting [50:00] on significant positive impact that we have had [50:02] on the lives of Memphis residents. [50:05] The city's residents and visitors are now more likely [50:08] to venture downtown, and our local businesses [50:12] are rallying back. [50:15] Large-scale public events have shown improved safety outcomes [50:19] as demonstrated during the December 6, 2025 St. Jude [50:23] Marathon, where 22,000 runners gathered [50:29] without a single reported downtown burglary, [50:32] compared to multiple incidents in the prior year. [50:36] Perhaps the most telling of all is one [50:38] of our special assistant United States attorneys recently reported [50:42] that a traveling emergency doctor, emergency room doctor, [50:47] expressed his appreciation for all that the task force had done. [50:51] You see, he said that in years past he would see three [50:55] to five gunshot victims per shift, and now he sees an average [51:00] of one gunshot victim every three or four shifts. [51:06] Mr. President, the Memphis Safe Task Force underscores one simple truth. [51:10] When federal, state, and local agencies work together [51:15] as genuine partners, we can reclaim even the most troubled cities. [51:23] I am extremely grateful to you for the opportunity, [51:27] to all our partner agencies. [51:29] It has been an honor to work alongside you, [51:33] and I look forward to sustaining and building [51:35] on these partnerships as we continue to make Memphis safe again. [51:41] Thank you. [52:48] Our U.S. attorney, Mike Donovan, was out there. [52:52] And not only does everyone needs to know, [52:54] we met with this president multiple times [52:57] about this endeavor. [52:58] The president knew what was going on here. [53:01] The president cared. [53:02] People like Alice Johnson sitting in the front row, [53:04] who is a Memphis resident. [53:06] She told us what a horrible crime problem there was. [53:10] And I think the unsung hero in all of this is Stephen Miller. [53:13] Stephen is the architect of making all of these plans work. [53:25] There was a horrible murderer, Arsenio Davis, [53:28] who last October committed a gruesome double homicide. [53:31] He killed his mother and dismembered another person. [53:35] And based on this task force working hand in hand, [53:38] he's off the street. [53:39] Another example, a horrible monster [53:42] who's charged with raping a small child. [53:44] This task force, all of these members working together, [53:47] arrested him. [53:48] We can give you countless examples of that. [53:51] Seven hundred and seventy, over 770, [53:54] gang members off the streets. [53:56] And we know there's no normal day for a law enforcement officer. [53:59] We know it's so dangerous what our law enforcement officers do. [54:03] But know this. [54:04] Donald Trump and this administration, [54:06] we have your backs. [54:56] You are this is more than a task force. [54:59] This is a statement statement, not just in this city, but across the nation. [55:04] When I look around this table, I'm looking at people that we work with every day. [55:08] Governor Cash, this team, the National Guard, Pam, Steven, as is mentioned, Gatti, the speaker [55:14] at the federal level and the state level working hand in glove. [55:18] It doesn't happen any other way. [55:19] You see, before President Trump, our nation was set on a perpetual course of decline. [55:25] Our defense industrial base had been hollowed out. [55:28] Our military had lowered its standard, prioritizing equity over merit and lethality. [55:33] And right here in cities like this. [55:34] And right here in cities like this. [55:35] Memphis, our people were focused on enduring just what seemed to be the status quo of rampant, vicious crime. [55:43] Well, they let their cities burn to the ground, literally in the name of hallow humanitarianism, weak leaders. [55:50] And that's what it is. It's weak leaders previously provided sanctuary for hordes of dangerous, [55:55] illegal aliens who preyed on our most vulnerable, soft on crime, defund the police. [56:01] Nonsense tied the hands of our brave law enforcement heroes, [56:06] bad guys ran wild. [56:09] And the most basic tenets of public safety, the foundations of any civilized society, [56:13] were labeled as too toxic to implement. [56:17] Well, not under President Trump. [56:19] Such engineered chaos combined with a wide open border. [56:23] By the way, thank you for agreeing to sign that declaration for the Memphis troops, [56:27] the D.C. troops and the troops on our border. [58:28] We oftentimes say Nashville is the heart of Tennessee, but Memphis is the soul. [58:32] And great businesses here, remarkable people, a true rich cultural history, but a serious [58:48] problem. [58:49] And I want to tell you, even for me, today's a very important day, even personally. [58:55] I'm a man who has loved this city. [58:56] I'm a man who has loved this city. [58:57] I've loved this city all of my life, my grandparents, my mom born and raised, my family here. [59:05] As a young kid, spent time with my cousins roaming the community, the neighborhoods in [59:12] this city. [59:14] But sadly, for decades, that was not possible for children to do safely anymore. [59:19] And to watch this great city be plagued by crime like it has for decades was a very tough [59:26] thing for Tennesseans to do. [59:28] But as we said earlier, what's happening? [59:30] It's happening. [59:31] And what's happened in the last six months has changed that story entirely. [59:36] And because of your leadership, Mr. President, putting together the Memphis Safe Task Force, [59:41] putting these people, this leadership team in place, funding and making possible resources [59:49] that have never before been made available to a city like has been made for Memphis. [59:57] Because of that, because of the leadership here, and these, especially these men and [1:00:01] women of law enforcement and the National Guard. [1:00:02] Who have been there. [1:00:03] Who have been there. [1:00:03] In fact, gone shoulder to shoulder with not only the multiple agencies involved, but with [1:00:10] the people of Memphis. [1:00:14] What has happened here has created generational change and will create generational change. [1:00:20] And it could not have happened except for what's happening and what we're celebrating [1:00:23] here today. [1:00:25] So the people of Memphis are grateful. [1:00:27] This governor is grateful. [1:00:28] I thank you for the work that's happened. [1:00:30] And we are looking to the future. [1:00:33] We believe that great things lie ahead for this city. [1:00:34] We believe that we can do this. [1:00:35] There's a lot of work yet to be done. [1:00:39] The General Assembly and we are working together with the General Assembly to create legislation [1:00:43] that will make certain that this is a lasting effect for our city. [1:00:52] I'm very hopeful for the men and women of Memphis that have prayed for a long time that [1:00:58] the violence would stop, for the businesses that have held strong to create jobs and opportunity [1:01:04] for Tennesseans. [1:01:05] I have a lot of hope for the future. [1:01:07] I do believe and have believed all my life that this is a great opportunity. [1:01:09] And I'm thankful to the people of Memphis for helping us. [1:01:10] great city and now it has it is on a trajectory of greatness beyond where [1:01:17] it's been in the past thank you for that and I will say I want to introduce [1:01:23] Stephen Miller to speak next there is one person who showed up here early [1:01:29] actually multiple people at this table but he said his commitment to whatever [1:01:34] we needed for this city and for this task force to be successful he committed [1:01:44] that when this when this began and it has happened and we're not done but this [1:01:50] statistic speak for themselves what Gaddy just read out while ago is [1:01:55] hard to imagine when we first started this just six months ago that these were [1:02:00] going to be the results there's more to go but we're grateful for the work and [1:02:05] Stephen you're you're committed [1:02:06] to us Tennesseans truly are grateful for it and your commitment to President [1:02:10] Trump's strategy not just to make Memphis safe, not just to make Tennessee [1:02:15] safe, but to make all of America safe again. Well first and most importantly thank you to President Trump [1:02:30] whose vision and courage and determination has achieved something [1:02:35] that if you had predicted it 15 months ago people would have said it was [1:02:40] impossible, if you had said fifteen months ago that we would achieve the [1:02:44] lowest national murder rate not in five years or ten years or fifteen or twenty [1:02:50] or thirty or forty, but in the hundred and twenty-five years nobody would have [1:02:55] believed it possible. And President Trump did exactly that and it is a miracle. [1:03:07] Just think about this for a second. Under President Trump's leadership, the largest [1:03:11] reduction in murders in American history, the largest reduction in [1:03:15] Vliner stitched, and operated on by American doctors in the world was just a [1:03:15] Teresa Johnson, everybody knows what she was saying. Um, and yeah. So this is our [1:03:15] violent crime in American history, the largest reduction in drug overdose deaths in American [1:03:20] history, the largest reduction in fentanyl in American history, the largest reduction [1:03:25] in illegal immigration in American history, and the largest number of criminals arrested, [1:03:31] removed, or deported in American history, all done in one year. [1:03:35] If, I would just say this, if we had an honest media in this country, the statistics I just [1:03:45] gave you would be 24-7 on the news. [1:03:48] Nobody could have ever predicted such an achievement would be possible. [1:03:51] The second thing I want to thank President Trump for is assembling the greatest national [1:03:56] security and public safety team in American history, because President Trump believes [1:04:01] in merit and competence and people who get things done. [1:04:04] So you look around the table of who President Trump chose for these jobs. [1:04:08] You start with Rob, or Gaddy, or Pam, or Pete, Cash, Todd, Terry, the whole entire team. [1:04:16] What President Trump put together. [1:04:17] President Trump has never been rivaled in history. [1:04:20] That's how you get things done. [1:04:22] He chooses people based on their skill, their competence, their ability, their determination, [1:04:27] their dedication, and their loyalty, and you're seeing the results. [1:04:47] That because of the President, because of the work that President Trump is doing, not [1:04:51] only in Memphis, not only in Washington, D.C., but all over the country, ultimately, it will [1:04:57] save and is saving tens of thousands of American lives. [1:05:01] It is, and I'll use that word again, what President Trump has done on border security [1:05:06] and public safety is a national miracle that will be studied, not only for generations, [1:05:12] but for centuries to come. [1:05:43] I'm reminded that Americans exist to protect this country day in and day out, and they've [1:05:47] done it like we've done it here. [1:05:49] But what we didn't have was you. [1:05:51] We didn't have a commander-in-chief who backed us. [1:05:51] We didn't have a commander-in-chief who backed the blue, who resourced the blue, who funded [1:05:54] the military, who did whatever it takes to safeguard every single life. [1:05:59] And here in Memphis, Tennessee, you have put on a show for the world. [1:06:02] You have allowed us to go out there and capture gangbangers, rapists, murderers, drug dealers [1:06:07] at record historic levels. [1:06:10] And for me, a first-generation Indian American kid whose parents flooded genocide in East [1:06:14] Africa to become the ninth director of the FBI, I'm living the wildest dream you could [1:06:18] possibly imagine, sir. [1:06:20] But it's thanks to you. [1:06:21] And more importantly, what I see when I look out across our great partners here in the [1:06:25] interagency and our great legislatures and our great prosecutors and our great attorney [1:06:28] general who has the guts to go out there and make arrests, turn them into prosecutions [1:06:32] and put people in prison, you are giving that dream to every single child in the state of [1:06:37] Tennessee. [1:06:38] You are inspiring the nation and law enforcement to come up and wear the badge and wear the [1:06:43] colors of this country and safeguard our men and women for generations to come. [1:06:48] This is an enduring mission, Mr. President, because you have made it enduring. [1:06:51] It is going to go on for generations to come. [1:06:55] They are going to try to achieve what you accomplished here, what Stephen said, in just [1:06:58] one short year, and they're going to be doing it for decades, because America was smart [1:07:01] enough to elect you as our Commander-in-Chief. [1:07:04] So while we're out there fighting for the dreams of our children, just know, Mr. President, [1:07:08] how many millions of dreams like mine are going to be lived thanks to your brilliant [1:07:12] leadership. [1:07:37] We thank you for that, and have a strong team as well. [1:07:51] But I'd like to say that I appreciate how resolute you are in your belief and your attitude. [1:08:02] When we talk about crime, a lot of times we talk about normalcy, but people get used to [1:08:07] high crime. [1:08:08] They don't understand what low crime is. [1:08:10] And in this city unfortunately, it became a normal thing, seeing high crime. [1:08:14] But you deliver freedom to the residents here in Memphis as well as Governor Lee did. [1:08:22] And it's as little as watching a kid or a child who said they had a bicycle in their [1:08:26] living room, and now they're able to ride it outside. [1:08:30] We take that for granted, we take that freedom for granted, but because of you [1:08:34] now here in the city of Memphis, kids can ride their bicycles outside which they [1:08:38] never had experience before. And now what has happened when you have freedom, Mr. [1:08:44] President, you have opportunity. You now have hope, you get independence, and then [1:08:50] comes prosperity. And that's what making America great is all about. They can be [1:08:55] anything they want to be, it doesn't matter where you start out, you can end [1:08:59] up wherever you want to be, and that's exactly what you're doing, Mr. President. [1:09:02] And, and, we can talk about crime statistics, but I want to thank you for [1:09:06] saving hundreds of lives. And I mean by saving hundreds of lives is those [1:09:11] individuals who were not shot and killed in the city of Memphis. Those are [1:09:14] saved lives that have something else that God's going give them to do in their [1:09:19] life other than be a crime statistic. You say- in your short [1:09:23] period with your team's approach there are 10,000 less victims in the city of [1:09:29] Memphis think about that that hundreds of lives saved 10,000 less victims that [1:09:36] is an accomplishment that you have never seen in this aspect and I appreciate [1:09:47] your strong team all your individuals here also brilliant mine and Stephen [1:09:52] Miller who I've been able to work with and we are working as you said on [1:09:56] legislation only illegal immigration that we're going to lead the country in [1:09:59] which is working its way through the General Assembly but we're going to [1:10:02] Soros proof the state of Tennessee once and for all and we're going to take on [1:10:06] bail we're going to take on woke and soft on crime da's we've already done [1:10:11] truth and sentencing we're working on three strike legislation but we have a [1:10:15] strong General Assembly that will support the governor and me and [1:10:18] Lieutenant Governor McNally who's a great advocate in this endeavor and the [1:10:23] last thing I'll say mr. president is I appreciate your resolve to not allow [1:10:28] people's words to distract you from your destiny Stephen Miller just laid out [1:10:34] with that destiny look like which is untouched in our history [1:10:37] thank you for being resolute and not allowing those who want to take you down [1:10:42] or to cause you harm to allow you to continue fighting forward to make the [1:10:49] America what we know it can be as well as the city of Memphis thank you very [1:10:53] much mr. president thank you very much and now we have the ice director very [1:11:03] important he's done a fantastic job Todd please that's the key thing the men and [1:11:12] women in this room that wear the badge every day we know that we have a [1:11:15] president that has our back so be patient and we'll see you next time thank you [1:11:17] because of you we can go out and we can make America safe again but honestly sir [1:11:21] if you're just gonna look at what we did this is what happens when strategy [1:11:24] actually meets execution you know your model is delivering real results secure [1:11:30] communities and making neighborhoods safe and if they with more cities would [1:11:33] just take the lead and have the strength and constitution like the governor does [1:11:37] to make their major cities safe again this is a prime example of how to do it [1:11:42] this is a direct reflection sir of the model that you have put in place this is in the [1:11:49] The Homeland Security Task Forces that you put into action with your executive order [1:11:53] are really what's going to make a difference to this country. [1:11:55] You know, one thing, and Gaddy brought it up, was the Memphis interagency fraud cell. [1:12:01] That's key to your promise to the American people that honest Americans that need that [1:12:06] funding will get it. [1:12:08] What we're doing is we're having a reduction in fraud when it comes to SNAP benefits, mail [1:12:13] fraud and Medicaid fraud. [1:12:15] And that's key and important for true Americans that believed in you that you're going to [1:12:19] make a difference to make this country great again. [1:12:22] While this wasn't an immigration-led operation, sir, we did have 619 illegal aliens arrested, [1:12:28] seven of those which were Venezuelans that were paroled into this country, TDA gang members, [1:12:33] one El Sal that raped a child, and another Honduras male that raped several children. [1:12:38] Because of your leadership, we were able to get these violent criminals out of our neighborhoods, [1:12:42] and serve Memphis going forward is going to be the example, as Mr. Miller said, for decades [1:12:45] to come. [1:12:46] So on behalf of the men and women of ICE, the special agents of Homeland Security, we [1:12:49] thank you very much. [1:12:50] Thank you for your leadership. [1:13:05] We shouldn't be in this position, especially when we're in conflict elsewhere. [1:13:10] But how are you doing and how is ICE doing at the airports and helping out? [1:13:13] Oh, you know, sir, just to have the opportunity to help our other fellow officers [1:13:18] at Department of Homeland Security, we're doing great. [1:13:20] We're going to make sure that your promise is kept. [1:13:22] That we're going to help those lines move, and we're going to make people safe. [1:13:26] And no one should be nervous to go to the airport because we're going to make sure that [1:13:29] every traveler in Spring Break has a safe journey. [1:13:31] Great job. [1:13:36] They are no longer doing, they're no longer walking these streets without the fear of [1:14:02] federal and state law enforcement getting together and taking them off the streets. [1:14:08] We focused our efforts on the most violent gang members operating in Memphis. [1:14:11] We're going to make sure that they're safe. [1:14:12] So much so that we've decapitated the leadership of the Rich and Ruthless gang and the Vice [1:14:17] Lord gangs operating here in Memphis. [1:14:20] Their leadership, their membership is currently running the streets without any sort of direction. [1:14:28] The gang members are falling apart. [1:14:31] They're weakened. [1:14:32] Their ability to coordinate and commit violent crimes are broken down because of the Memphis [1:14:35] Safe Task Force. [1:14:37] We've also been able to identify numerous firearms trafficking task force. [1:14:41] Some of the evidence items that you see here were recovered from violent gang members. [1:14:46] Many of these firearms were converted from semi-automatic weapons to be able to accept [1:14:52] machine gun conversion devices which now allow these rifles and pistols to shoot full auto. [1:14:57] Those weapons were used by the gang members to terrorize this community and commit numerous [1:15:02] homicides and numerous aggravated assaults. [1:15:05] Those networks were identified and removed from operations. [1:15:09] One in particular was operating three. [1:15:10] Three D printing machines making machine gun conversion devices in his house when search [1:15:16] warrants were executed by ATF and our Memphis Safe Task Force partners. [1:15:21] We are continually focused on preventing violent crime. [1:15:23] In one instance while we were out of patrol with our state and local partners, our agents [1:15:28] responded to a shooting that had just occurred and located a victim that sustained serious [1:15:33] gunshot injuries. [1:15:35] Agents were able to render first aid on the scene and prevent that victim from bleeding [1:15:40] out. [1:15:40] The victim was transported to the hospital and ultimately survived because of the Memphis [1:15:45] Safe Task Force being here. [1:15:47] Our agents regularly talked to the members of the community. [1:15:50] The community when we first arrived was in visible fear. [1:15:54] They were afraid to walk out of their homes to the corner store. [1:15:57] They were afraid to sit in their front yards because of being in fear of being victimized [1:16:02] of a drive-by shooting. [1:16:05] Those people are now approaching our agents and our partners thanking us every day for [1:16:09] being out there. [1:16:10] They are taking the fear away from them so they and their family members can walk their [1:16:14] communities and sit in their front yards and talk to their neighbors without fear of being [1:16:18] killed or shot. [1:16:19] So thank you for your support of law enforcement and for creating the Memphis Safe Task Force. [1:16:25] Thank you, sir. [1:16:26] Thank you, Robin. [1:16:27] You do a fantastic job. [1:16:32] One of the best crime fighters I know for really from personal experience because I've [1:16:37] watched him more in D.C. than here, but I get the reports on what's happening in Memphis [1:16:42] and Terri Cole. [1:16:43] Please. [1:16:44] Say a few words. [1:16:45] Great job. [1:16:46] Mr. President, thank you for your leadership, has given law enforcement the tools and the [1:16:51] support to take this fight directly to the local street gangs, but also the cartels, [1:16:58] the designated terrorists that are killing Americans. [1:17:02] Your leadership is attacking not only the local street gangs here, but it's attacking [1:17:08] the cartels in Mexico, it's attacking the cartels in Venezuela, it's attacking the cartels [1:17:14] in Colombia and Ecuador. [1:17:15] And it's setting the example for the world to see that they are designated terrorists. [1:17:22] They are fueling the violence in our streets. [1:17:26] The DEA, along with our local task forces, are disrupting the supply chain, dismantling [1:17:31] networks and saving American lives. [1:17:35] This is America first. [1:17:37] This is Americans first. [1:17:39] The DEA is proud to stand along with our federal, state, tribal and local partners here in Memphis, [1:17:45] with our amazing military and National Guard. [1:17:49] The work has just started, Mr. President. [1:17:52] We will take the battle wherever the battle leads us. [1:17:54] But one thing can be rest assured. [1:17:57] After you take Maduro out of Venezuela, after you take Mencho out of Mexico, after your [1:18:04] diplomatic pressure forces the Mexicans to make a record seizure last week of 270 kilograms [1:18:12] of fentanyl that was destined for the United States. [1:18:16] This is truly... [1:18:18] It's due to your leadership. [1:18:19] It's due to your partnership with law enforcement that enables us to do our job. [1:18:24] A few small seizures from this task force is represented in front of you. [1:18:30] Close to 190 kilograms of cocaine. [1:18:34] Close to 50 pounds of methamphetamine. [1:18:37] But more importantly, this task force seized enough fentanyl to kill, in lethal dosages, [1:18:47] close to 20 million Americans. [1:18:51] Thank you. [1:18:52] 20 million Americans. [1:18:54] In a separate case, just outside of Memphis, working with our state and local law enforcement [1:18:59] partners, we seized another 25 million lethal doses of fentanyl that was heading to our [1:19:09] cities, heading to our streets. [1:19:12] I will tell you, Mr. President, in my three tours here to Memphis to put on the gun, to [1:19:19] put on the vest and to go out in the community, I was welcomed. [1:19:23] I was welcomed. [1:19:24] I was welcomed by an amazing highway patrol colonel and his team, but I was welcomed by [1:19:29] the community. [1:19:31] I was invited to front porches. [1:19:33] I was invited to an ice cream social. [1:19:35] But that was in between the hard work of the men and women of the DEA and this task force [1:19:42] that we're conducting daily. [1:19:43] See, personally, I served four search warrants with the amazing men and women of DEA and [1:19:49] the Memphis Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol because I believe in the mission [1:19:52] of where you lead from the front. [1:19:54] So, thank you for giving us at the DEA the power to do our job. [1:19:55] Thank you. [1:19:56] Thank you. [1:19:57] Thank you. [1:19:58] Thank you, Mr. President, for giving us the power to do our job again. [1:19:59] Thank you for giving us these amazing relationships with these task forces and the Homeland Security [1:20:04] Task Force and the Memphis Task Force and the Washington, DC Task Force. [1:20:32] One's a business owner and a good one, and one's a good one, also a resident, and we're [1:20:39] going to ask you both to say a few words, please. [1:20:44] Mr. President, thank you for saving Memphis, and thank you for asking me to share my story. [1:20:50] My name is Tim Pugh. [1:20:51] I'm a co-founder and president of Pugh's Earthworks and Pugh's Flowers. [1:20:55] My brothers and I have two family-owned businesses in Memphis, and this year marks our 50th year [1:21:00] in business since we started our American dream. [1:21:05] My entire family, including our neighbors, are members of our family. [1:21:06] Our new grandbaby is living and working in Memphis. [1:21:09] We want our family to feel and be safe. [1:21:13] We have many friends that have moved away and encouraged their children to move away [1:21:17] because of the escalating crime. [1:21:19] We love Memphis and call it our home, and we never want to move away. [1:21:24] The crime in Memphis has affected my businesses. [1:21:26] We've had several delivery vans full of flowers stolen as we're at the front door of someone's [1:21:31] house delivering. [1:21:32] Turned around and the van was gone. [1:21:36] We've had landscape equipment stolen from job sites. [1:21:39] So now we have to lock each piece of equipment to the truck while we're working on a property. [1:21:44] And because of multiple break-ins, including one night we had five vans with the Cadillac [1:21:48] converter stolen on all five. [1:21:52] Due to repeated theft, we had to install an electric fence and multiple cameras around [1:21:56] our main store to prevent this theft. [1:21:59] All of this adds significant financial burdens and man hours. [1:22:04] In the spring of last year, members of one of my landscape crews were robbed at gunpoint. [1:22:11] This type of action became taboo. [1:22:12] I was raised in a city that was too normal and I felt that we were on a path of no return. [1:22:20] How could we continue to operate our business when theft was rampant and, God forbid, lives [1:22:25] were lost? [1:22:27] Thankfully for you, Mr. President, we don't have to live and operate that way anymore. [1:22:32] We have a great police force in Memphis, but they just needed reinforcements to get the [1:22:39] crime under control. [1:22:40] So thank you for bringing in those much needed reinforcements. [1:22:45] Our mayor has done a good job. [1:22:46] Each week he's sending out emails of the progress and just last Friday he reported [1:22:52] that crime was down well over 40 percent. [1:22:56] Honestly Mr. President, I feel like crime is down 100 percent and that is because of [1:23:01] what you've done. [1:23:03] We want Memphis to grow and prosper and to do that you must have a low crime rate. [1:23:08] People have to feel safe. [1:23:10] That wasn't the case before, but now it is. [1:23:13] Thank you to the task force and our city leaders for working together to make this happen and [1:23:19] thank you Mr. President. [1:23:19] Memphis owes you a lot of gratitude. [1:24:34] I've attended funerals that never should have happened. I've seen families torn apart, [1:24:40] mothers grieving, and children growing up without parents, all because of violence that felt like [1:24:47] it would never end. And those moments stay with you. They change how you see everything. But [1:24:57] nothing's changed more than becoming a mother, because now wasn't just my life that I was [1:25:08] worried about, it was my children. There were days where I wouldn't let them go outside, [1:25:13] not because I didn't want them to, but because I was afraid what would happen if I did. [1:25:19] And the fear of stray bullets, the sounds of gunshots at night, [1:25:23] constantly wondering if they were truly safe. And that fear became real in a way [1:25:29] that no mother should ever have to experience. At just five years old, I could have lost my son. [1:25:37] There was nothing I could have done. There was nothing I could have done. [1:25:42] There was nothing I could have done. There was nothing I could have done. [1:25:42] There was a drive-by shooting, and a random bullet came through my home in that very same [1:25:48] space where my son played. And to that day, this bullet hole is still in my wall, a permanent [1:25:55] reminder of how close I came to losing everything. My family, we are good people. We work hard every [1:26:04] day to have everything that we have, only to have it taken away from us. We've experienced [1:26:11] multiple burglaries in our home. And it wasn't just the material things that were stuck [1:26:16] and stolen. It was our sense of security, our peace, our livelihood. And that violence just [1:26:23] wasn't inside of our home. It was all around us. Just simply four houses down from where I live, [1:26:29] a grandmother and her child was shot. I remember what sounded like almost 30 gunshots ring out. [1:26:36] Yellow tape covered the street. After that day, those neighbors never returned. Their home, [1:26:45] now with the for sale sign, stands as a reminder [1:26:49] of a fear so deep that they couldn't come back to the place where they almost lost their lives. [1:26:55] And that feeling, that fear, is something that my family knows all too well. That is not how [1:27:01] families are supposed to live. That is not how children are supposed to grow up. We've reached [1:27:08] out for help. For years, we looked to our local leaders, hoping that something, anything, would [1:27:14] change. But nothing did. And that was until you, my president, stepped in. I need you to understand [1:27:23] what that fear is, and what it means to me, and what it means to you, and what it means to me, [1:27:23] and what it means to me, and what it means to me, and what it means to me, and what it means to me, [1:27:24] and what it means to me, and what it means to me, and what it means to me, and what it means to me, [1:27:24] for families like mine. Because in a matter of weeks, we felt a difference. Today, I can sit [1:27:31] out on my porch and drink tea in peace. My children can go outside and play in our backyard again. [1:27:38] And for the first time in five years, I don't hear any gunshots in my neighborhood. [1:27:43] It's been, it's been almost six months, and it's like a whole new world. That silence means [1:28:00] everything to me. It means safety. It means peace. It means that I can breathe again as a mother. [1:28:07] What years of waiting couldn't fix, you did it in just three weeks. And I'll never [1:28:16] forget that. My family will never forget that. And what's even more powerful is that that impact did [1:28:22] not stop there. Because of the Memphis Safe Tax Force, it has sparked continued efforts right [1:28:28] here at home, like the Make Memphis Matter movement, led by the incredible, the most awesome [1:28:34] State Senator Brent Taylor, starting in 2023, who is putting his best foot forward every day to [1:28:41] continue the mission to make it a safer Memphis, and to hold our SOARs-backed DA accountable at a [1:28:47] state level, and partnering with amazing Senators Hagerty and Blackburn on the federal level. [1:28:53] And it's because of leadership like that, I believe that Memphis can become that place [1:29:00] that I once remembered. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for seeing [1:29:06] communities like mine. Thank you for taking action. Thank you for putting Americans first. [1:29:13] Especially right here, in Shelby County in Memphis. Because this isn't politics for me. [1:29:20] This is my life. This is my, and this is for my children. In fact, President Trump, my son, my [1:29:26] beautiful son, is here today. And he would like to wave and say thank you, because now he's free [1:29:32] to live a normal childhood. Braylon, stand up for me, baby.
