[0:00] jd vance surveying the damage of this blue tsunami vance was the obvious choice for republicans for [0:05] 2028 that is until these midterms now he is tossing his boss under the bus in a bid to save [0:11] his reputation in a lengthy post on social media jd vance wrote the main problem is that many people [0:17] who voted for trump fans in 2024 voted for democrats in 2026 and he went on to write the [0:23] reason we lost is the war but what about the veep himself is he politically damaged the group chat [0:29] is back why are we saying this he was the closer he was going around ohio saying stop whining about [0:36] the ad he was going around talking about the war and defending the administration so if the closer [0:42] doesn't close is that permanent damage i don't know if it's permanent damage but it's obviously [0:48] damaging i think his tweet i don't know if i would say that it's throwing the president on the bus [0:53] unless the president know he was actually doing it and i find it hard to believe that the president [0:57] at least didn't give a little bit of a thumbs up to that kind of essay length yeah so that's my [1:02] guess i i still think the intent was probably to save himself it sounded like it was written by [1:07] tucker carlson and others trump had tasked him specifically with talking positively about the [1:12] war despite the fact he was not a fan and he was reluctant yeah a hundred percent i i think ultimately [1:17] though he is damaging all of this the big winners on the republican side if you want to look at it in that [1:21] sense ron de santis i think comes out really strong and you're seeing him right now try to take [1:25] advantage of that and i think he's wise to do that and i think marco rubio who is not tied as much in [1:30] the american public's view as jd vance's to this uh administration and i know we had that yesterday [1:37] but i just i really disagree i think that when you when when one of the things that people voted on and [1:43] and find so unpopular is this war because of the high cost um in charge and no but but he is the national [1:49] security advisor and he is the secretary of state and many other hats that he wears and he and he is [1:55] a large part of advising the president when it comes to this war and so he might have a better of [2:01] an easier time distancing himself you've said that vance is throwing donald trump under the bus in that [2:06] post um i think a lot of people will agree with you it certainly sounds like he's on the campaign [2:11] trail for himself as president in 2028 already so take us through both the politics of this and [2:20] whether you know what the what jd vance has said is going to translate to actual policy [2:26] that is a willingness to end the iran war yeah this really is a remarkable post that came out uh [2:35] midway through yesterday morning in washington and caused a huge stir simply because we all knew that [2:42] jd vance uh and his national uh his uh nationalist and more isolationist instincts meant that he was [2:51] less enamored of the iraq war of the iran war than many others in the trump cabinet uh he's made that clear [2:58] although he's actually been quite loyal to the president on the war in public but come out and [3:04] basically argue that the war which was the president's sole decision was uh in itself the biggest [3:11] uh trigger of this republican loss this spectacular political catastrophe that's before in the [3:18] republican party is absolutely huge and as you say he clearly is trying to uh try to revive or to save his [3:29] hopes of of succeeding trump in uh 2028 after the 2028 election uh so this is really something that's [3:39] quite extraordinary uh the the big question that poses to me not in a domestic political sense but [3:45] more in an international sense is we were all expecting the president to perhaps move ahead and [3:51] reinitiate war with iran after this election when his vice president is on the record as saying that he is [3:59] against that and there should be a diplomatic end to the war that really fractures uh support for the war [4:05] inside the cabinet take that together with the fact that one big uh clear message that the american [4:12] people sent on tuesday was what they want this war to end so if trump continues to pursue it nevertheless [4:20] he's in an extraordinarily weak political position i was concerned what jd vance would be to anna's [4:26] question on the view what would you do differently than your boss and he would not know what to say [4:31] well he put that to rest yesterday pretty quickly right when he's like the war sucked this is [4:36] terrible right i mean like bam he put he put down the cards and co-signed by the way by the president's [4:42] own son who then retweeted that and said 100 when you've lost your own son i think you have bigger [4:49] problems than losing your vice president with the problem with jd vance answering that way though [4:54] is that donald trump is still gonna put his thumb on the scale when it comes to republican primaries and [5:00] if jd vance goes on the view or anywhere else and gives that kind of answer you can bet your bottom [5:05] dollar he's gonna go chucky on jd vance so so i i i still submit this that donald trump will reign [5:11] like the colossus at roads across that harbor right until he did not fall until he draws his last breath [5:18] right he would because he could control the republican primary but ron desantis right has a claim to fame [5:24] that hey my state didn't get swamped last night my state's feeling was still red we have [5:29] ideas here we're governing by ideas big personality there's no love lost between donald trump and ronda [5:35] sanders everybody knows that and i think he's just the first one in i think he's not the first ted [5:40] cruz went on his podcast but he hasn't been in yet but he's not officially like oh but marco ruby has [5:45] been very very quiet yeah marco ruby has been very quiet um but ted cruz went on his podcast and also [5:51] said i'm the last elected you know republican in the state of texas uh and everyone's only because he [5:57] wasn't on the ballot precisely precisely ted cruz is like in the alamo he's like hammered down but i [6:02] mean this but the idea behind this is that um the floodgates have opened and now as i have said that's [6:08] what you saw in this midterm is the end of the donald trump era and yes no no no no let me be clear [6:16] though um his power only wanes from what just happened and that happens to every president [6:22] regardless of how popular the cult of personality and specifically with donald trump because what did [6:28] donald trump do the day after these horrific midterms for his party he went in front of the [6:35] country in his ballroom and said look at this beautiful ballroom and look how great he looked [6:43] like he was someone's senile senile grandfather he is somebody's senile grandfather but lulu here's [6:51] here's the part in this i mean i'm just baffled by this right his closing message was to look like [6:56] somebody's senile grandfather in front of the reflecting pool and there was a bunch of people [7:00] in that white house who didn't stop him from doing that not the chief of staff i mean he had like printed [7:07] photos of rebar right somebody had to print that for him and had to let the guy go out there we know [7:12] who prints it for okay but the following day he loses and he and there's also not people able to [7:18] stand up to him and say sir of course you really should not do this today and so the the people who [7:25] were there in trump one the you know jim mattises the john kellys who could say to him the guardrails [7:31] really you can't do this are not there so he's going to continue and as long as there's not people [7:36] telling him not to do that you know he is the emperor with no clothes but you know he doesn't know it [7:41] yet well do you know what is i think one of the biggest problems all of his this has been a [7:47] government that has been ruled by fiat by donald trump and a very small coterie of people normally [7:52] you know the government is vast he has made it into a very small group of people um that have his ear [7:58] they all live in a compound in dc they don't even live outside of a bubble they live they socialize [8:04] together they talk to each other they only go to each other's parties because that's where they feel [8:08] safe and so they are not in any way shape or form subject to what is happening outside of the [8:14] they are now they are now let me just ask one quick question because there's nothing better than what [8:18] i've had no sleep to be able to sit back and let you guys talk so keep it up by all means keep it up [8:22] by the way none of us could talk either i know i know but who won who won day one of the post trump [8:28] era for republicans was it jd vance was it ron desantis was it you know dark horse ted cruz who do you [8:33] definitely not jd vance because jd vance needs to be the guy's vice president for the next two years [8:38] and that comes with a lot of risk listen i david and i are both floridians i did not have in my bingo [8:44] card uh ron desantis emerging and you know getting another life again and figuring out how to stay [8:51] relevant there's three floridians actually at this table i grew up in miami and and my entire family [8:56] lives in florida that's a lot in one place so let's talk florida um come on in the water's fine the [9:03] water's fine i mean there's a couple of things that happen in florida first of all the cuban vote [9:06] by the way saved ron desantis um that was the vote that stuck with the gop as they always do [9:13] regardless of what's happening and that was the vote that really helped push florida into the red [9:19] column but ron desantis does have a case to make regardless of what you think he has a case to make [9:24] and who's left standing that is the question here not many people i would argue i would argue to you [9:30] uh two things first of all i mean they republicans in florida have like a million and a half voter [9:35] advantage registration advantage that i think was just very difficult to surpass but also democrats [9:41] missed the opportunity nobody nobody in the media nobody in the democratic party was looking at florida [9:47] and despite the fact that you had angie nixon running for the senate and by the way completely [9:52] solo without a dime from anybody outside you had david jolly running particular solo no not dying from [9:59] outside those guys came scarily close and there's a bunch of of uh congressional races that are still [10:04] in recount material yeah that if democrats had invested in they might have been able by the way [10:10] democrats and people gave up on florida should be going to angie nixon's door and saying how did you [10:15] do that david jolly has heard a thank for that well last last one quick final thought i would say listen [10:21] donald trump's not going anywhere for two more years he's still the president he's still going to reign large [10:25] does lots of things he can veto things he has eos he's done most of the things he's done to date by [10:29] eo he will still be the very powerful president moving forward because he didn't use the congress much [10:35] at all to begin with number two who won i think ron de santis won yesterday he's he's a person who's [10:41] always had good ideas right his personality has been you know a little bit prickly at times people [10:45] may not have ideas for republicans by the way but i'm saying but i but i think yesterday he he won the [10:51] day yesterday well he's the only one that's free to speak well well marco ruby didn't say anything [10:55] basically so maybe that will be seen as the best strategy in a few days we'll see some were scouring [11:00] himself trying to figure out how he takes a stench off my florida friends anna navarro david urban [11:05] thank you all very much
