[0:00] Justice for baby corn! [0:28] We welcome all of you here today to be a part of this press conference. [0:32] We welcome Attorney Ben Crump and Attorney Ben Turner who's representing the family in this case. [0:38] We thank you for coming out today as a part of this community and you're always welcome here. [0:44] Before we begin the official press conference, I'm going to call on Brother James Jackson to come up and lead us in prayer. [1:05] Let us pray. Dear God, we come this day with thanks in our hearts. [1:13] We come, oh Heavenly Father, thanking you again this day for your grace, your mercy, [1:20] and most of all, we thank you for being our Creator. [1:28] Dear God, we ask you now, dear old man, to bless this corn family. [1:36] For God strengthen them. We beg you now, dear God, for a special divine favor on this family. [1:46] For the injustice that they are enduring. [1:51] For most of God, we know today that justice, injustice is bad. [1:59] We know this day, dear God, that injustice caused pain. [2:06] Injustice caused separation of family. [2:12] Injustice impacts the livelihood of individuals. [2:21] We pray this day, dear God, that you can help us in this building today to eliminate and eradicate this thing we call injustice. [2:36] For most of God, we are determined today to do all we can. [2:44] We are committed and we will stand firm to eliminate and to terminate this bad thing we call injustice. [2:56] For Heavenly Father, we are not asking you today to do for us what we can do for ourselves. [3:04] We know we need you, dear God, and we need you in all our life endeavors. [3:11] But now, Heavenly Father, we are asking you to guide and direct us in the paths of righteousness [3:18] that we will be able to eliminate and stand firm. [3:23] We don't want you to do, dear God, for us what we can do for ourselves. [3:28] We just ask you for your guidance and determination. [3:35] Now, Heavenly Father, when each one of us in this building today, when each one of us will have contributed our strength. [3:43] When we will have contributed our knowledge toward the paths of righteousness. [3:49] Oh, mercy for God, we will seek a place, a place within that kingdom. [3:56] These petitions we submit this morning, in your darling son Jesus' name, we pray, amen. [4:06] Thank you so much to Minister Kathy for allowing us to be here in his cathedral as we fight for justice. [4:20] Thank you to Brother Jones for that fervent prayer. [4:26] We are very grateful. [4:29] I'm attorney Ben Crump, along with attorney Van Turner and Kareem Ali. [4:37] We have the honor of representing the family of baby Cohen. [4:42] We also have present with us his grandparents, Carlos and LaShonda. [4:51] And we know this is going to be an extremely emotional press conference. [4:58] His parents are still grieving. [5:01] Obviously, they had the funeral services on Saturday. [5:06] And this is a lot on any parent, especially young parents. [5:11] That's right. [5:12] And so keep them in prayer as we continue to fight for justice. [5:16] We also have attorney Evan O'Shea, who's consulting with us today from Seattle, Washington on our legal team. [5:25] But as I said before, we're all in this together. [5:29] We have community activists, community leaders. [5:33] We're all together. [5:34] We have Marcus Keith, who's been fighting from day one with the family. [5:40] We have Patrick Lumumba, who's been fighting with the family in the community. [5:46] And most importantly, we have you all. [5:50] You all, we're here together to stand up for baby Cohen. [5:56] We're here to speak up for baby Cohen. [6:00] And we're here to fight for baby Cohen. [6:05] Justice for baby Cohen. [6:07] Justice for baby Cohen. [6:12] Justice for baby Cohen. [6:15] Because today, it was Felicia's and Damian's baby. [6:20] But if we don't stand up to get justice for their baby, then tomorrow it can be your baby. [6:28] So we're fighting for all our babies. [6:34] And here, because on June 14th, and it's been over two weeks now, right, Attorney Turner? [6:46] We have been demanding transparency. [6:53] We have been demanding transparency so we can get to the truth of why a San Antonio police officer felt the need to shoot [7:11] inside of a moving vehicle that he knew had two adults and a infant child that they called a juvenile. [7:27] They reported, they witnessed two adults and this child getting into the vehicle. [7:38] But yet, he saw fit to shoot into a moving vehicle when he knew a baby was dead. [7:50] And the reason we're fighting for transparency so we can get to the truth is so we can have some accountability [7:59] so we can get to justice for baby Cohen and trust for the community. [8:05] Now, follow me. It is really critical that we all understand why we're here. [8:13] You see, they want us to believe that it was a life or death situation. [8:24] Because that's the only way you can justify shooting into a vehicle that you know there's a baby in that car. [8:32] So they gotta be able to show us, to convince us that it was a life or death situation where the use of deadly force was warranted. [8:51] And sisters and brothers, they told us that, but they have not showed us that. [9:01] And so we're here fighting for transparency. We don't need you to narrate it for us. [9:10] Black people got eyes we can see just like you all can see. [9:14] If you saw the video, why can't you show us the video? [9:19] Unless that video contradicts what you're trying to tell us. [9:27] And that it was not a life or death situation. [9:32] That it was not warranted that you shoot into a vehicle where you know an infant child is in the vehicle. [9:42] And so, y'all, I can only imagine, Carlos and LaShonda, the lack of peace in your soul. [9:53] Every night y'all go to sleep not knowing why this officer killed your grandbaby. [10:01] And it is critically important to understand that we're having this press conference today to announce the results of our preliminary autopsy review. [10:20] And the reason we're having to go through such great links is because we're trying to put together the puzzle so we can get to the truth and transparency of what happened. [10:35] But you all, we shouldn't have to do this. This family shouldn't have to do this. This community shouldn't have to do this just to get to the simple truth of what happened. [10:49] Because we know that the Sanitopia Police Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, they have the body cam video, they have the dash cam video, and Walmart has the surveillance video. [11:09] And so, since this family can't get no peace, we don't want them to get no peace and think that it's going to be okay for them to sweep Baby Cohen death under the rug. [11:23] We ain't going to let them sweep Baby Cohen death under the rug. We're going to stand up for Baby Cohen to get justice. We're going to speak up for Baby Cohen to get justice. And we're going to fight for Baby Cohen to get justice. [11:40] Because if it was your baby, you would want us to do the same thing for your baby. [11:48] This is a baby! This is a baby! He can't speak up for himself. He can't stand up for himself. He can't cry out for justice for himself. So it's left to us in the community to do that for Baby Cohen. [12:08] No justice, no peace! [12:10] No justice! No peace! [12:12] No justice! No peace! [12:14] No justice! No peace! [12:16] No justice! No justice! [12:24] and if we don't all stand up for baby Cohen to get justice then the lack of transparency [12:36] would lead to not just blood on the hands of the sanatobia police department or the mississippi [12:42] bureau of investigations or walmart then the blood is on all our hands so that's why we all [12:51] got to stand up that's why i'm so grateful to you know brother bridges markel bridges and [12:58] patrick lumumba and marcus keith and all these community activists because they refuse to let [13:07] them get away without having transparency i mean walmart can release that video that's right sanatobia [13:17] police department can release that video but they choose not to and why what are they trying to [13:25] hide from us i mean you can shut us all down real simple show us a video that warrants why this [13:35] police officer was shooting that car and killed this beautiful little black baby i mean that's it's real [13:43] simple we're not asking for anything extraordinary we don't need you to say no more just show the video [13:52] don't say no more just release the video they don't need to say no more just release the video [14:01] the mississippi bureau of investigations ain't got to say no more just release the video it is that simple [14:11] it is that simple because they have to try to justify that it was a life or death situation [14:24] because if it's not a life or death situation god have mercy on them for shooting into a car [14:33] where they knew an infant baby was in that car think about that y'all think about the lack of humanity [14:47] that's why we got to find out information about the sanatobia police officer who shot in the vehicle [14:56] we need to know what his background was that's right what did he have any other uh accusations of [15:04] excessive force did he have any accusations of bias or discriminatory actions we need to check into his [15:14] background immediately we need to know what was going through his mind when he shot into a car with an [15:23] infant baby and you know the video is going to show us whether this was a life or death situation [15:33] where it warranted the use of deadly force because think about this when you you really put this in [15:43] context they got called for an alleged shoplifting of a box of diapers they didn't get called saying that [15:59] somebody had been shot in walmart they didn't get called saying that it was a strong arm robbery in walmart [16:08] they didn't get called saying that this was you know a hostage situation in walmart [16:16] no we talking about a box of diapers we talking about a box of diapers y'all let that sink in we're talking [16:26] about a box of diapers now think about that if the allegation is somebody allegedly shoplifted a box of [16:41] diapers that is not a hardened crime that wants you to shoot into a car it's not a hardened [16:51] crime to have you create a life or death situation i mean a box of diapers what's the worst that can [16:59] happen they get away with a box of diapers would that shut walmart down i mean what's the worst will [17:09] people die with people lose limbs because somebody got away with a box of diapers and it's so i mean there [17:19] are so many things they could have done other than to shoot into a vehicle with a infant child [17:30] they could have gotten a license plate i mean all this technology i'm sure san antonio police department [17:39] could run a license plate and find out who owned the vehicle and then find a less intrusive way to be able [17:48] to solve this hardened crime of shoplifting of a box of diapers and if they couldn't do it i'm sure the [17:57] mississippi bureau of investigations could lend a hand in them tracing the vehicle of the tag that had the [18:06] car with the last shoplifted box of diapers in it they could have done a hundred things other than to kill [18:15] this innocent baby cohen wiley why didn't why didn't baby coin get the benefit of the doubt the benefit of [18:34] possibility the benefit of humanity to say nobody is in life or death situation why do we have to shoot [18:48] into this vehicle where we know this baby is in the car and we know that the alleged crime is a box of [19:00] diapers i mean we talk about the value of our children lives we just said the attack on the [19:09] humanity of our black babies all across america i mean bottle of water bag of skittles can of iced tea [19:19] and now we talking about a box of diapers and if think about if it is a shoplifting of diapers [19:36] why would you take diapers you're not trying to go sell diapers on the black market if it was for [19:45] diapers is to be able to change a baby how terrible can you imagine the desperation if somebody had to [19:58] steal a box of diapers some of you all have children some of you all know what it was like to have [20:09] infant children and to have to change them because they wet themselves or they used the bathroom the [20:19] desperation of people who could not afford a box of diapers this has so many layers sisters and brothers [20:35] beyond just uh god off a shoe in a baby coin and so we are here because the lack of transparency and [20:49] we're going to try to continue to demand transparency it's been about 16 17 days now we should start a count [21:06] brother lumumba every day until they release that video that's right every day we should have a [21:14] countdown of when walmart is going to release the video of baby coin getting shot in their parking lot [21:23] we should have a countdown of every day when the san antropia police department is going to release the [21:31] video of them shooting baby coin we should have a countdown every day until the mississippi bureau of [21:40] investigations release the video of baby coin you know it's always trouble me van they they say these [21:49] these investigations take six to nine months i mean you got a video what's so hard to figure out i mean [22:00] if if it was an allegation of one of our cousins doing a crime in the community man and they had a video [22:13] think about that they had a video on the six o'clock news it would be it wouldn't take six or nine months [22:20] it wouldn't take six or nine weeks it wouldn't take six or nine days it wouldn't take six or nine hours [22:28] they had that video platter all over the news here in mississippi and all across america so the reason [22:38] the family is troubled and we all should be troubled is they're not releasing that video because they [22:47] believe that it does not justify the killing of their grandbaby and you all i know you all got common [22:58] sense something ain't adding up here if the officer was justified the video should show us it should [23:09] it should shut marcus markel keith down patrick lamoon bush it should shut down markel bridges it should [23:18] shut down all the activists who thank god are coming in the streets protesting for this baby but they won't [23:28] release the video and we can't let our feet off the gas we can't get complacent we [23:35] got to keep going until they release this video and so today is yet another effort to try to get them [23:43] to be transparent we had an independent preliminary review done based by dr roger mitchell a boy certified [23:56] forensic pathologist um and we're going to talk about the findings of his uh his uh initial review [24:09] he he determined based on the information that he has in his possession at the time of review [24:17] the cause of death which is no mystery to anyone shotgun wound of the torso the manner of death homicide [24:30] state of review the forensic pathologist was retained to review early investigative information [24:41] pertaining to the shooting death of the infant cohen wiley the initial question was to ascertain to [24:51] reasonable degrees of medical probability and medical certainty the positions of the entrance and exit [25:00] gunshot wounds present on the infant body material reviews were photographs of the infant body [25:12] photographs of the motor vehicle transporting the infant and direct observation of the infant body [25:21] itself the initial review findings gunshot wound of the torso entrance right side of the chest and that's [25:37] that's going to be very important and i'll explain in a minute um a sub section of this finding of [25:47] entrance wound right side of the chest is the pseudo stippling on the right side of the chest in the abdomen and i'll [25:59] explain that in just a second and dr midger goes through great detail to explain every aspect of his finding [26:09] uh exit wound uh exit wound the left side of the chest the direction is from right to left not front to back [26:27] that's going to be important right to left and then he has a preliminary explanation even though he has [26:42] two pages of details destruction along the path of the wound track including tissue and organ involvement [27:02] cannot be determined at this time due to the limited materials available for case review however due to [27:13] due to the positioning of the entrance and the exit wounds one or more thyroxic or thoraxic organs [27:28] the heart the lungs the aorta and the esophagus are likely to have been severely injured to cause the [27:41] fatality of the infant baby cohen wiley what he's saying is because they had already had the autopsy [27:53] and he did not reopen the baby's body the mississippi bureau of investigations did an autopsy before they [28:04] embalmed the baby and it's no mystery as to the cause of death but he was determining the entry wound and the [28:15] exit wound and he said because he did not reopen the baby's body he cannot conclude that the bullet whether [28:24] he hit the baby's heart or the baby's lungs or the baby's aorta or the baby esophagus but we know because [28:34] the baby was killed that some of those vital organs was hit by the bullet of this police officer and so [28:45] that is the preliminary findings i won't go into detail i think we're trying to show you better than [28:54] you can tell you i want the police car and what we're trying to point out is that they need to show us [29:39] what was warranted the shooting to the field there was a witness who told a family member that the car was [29:50] going away from the officers when they shot and so you see here to the right side you have a bullet here [30:01] on the right side of the windshield and then you have the passenger right side door the evidence that [30:10] a bullet shot through that side of the car and as you know baby cohen his mother was sitting in the [30:19] right passenger side that that's very important that we try to solve a puzzle and the reason we're [30:30] having to try to solve the puzzle is because they won't release the video y'all do understand that we [30:36] wouldn't have to do all this if they release the video we i mean the body camera the dash camera the [30:44] vehicle was walmart and surveillance video we we are pretty confident if they release that video it [30:56] would show us exactly exactly what happened right in front of the car and and so i'm so grateful i got a [31:05] good investigative black career while leaving right here photographs of the deal even though the mississippi [31:11] bureau investigation has released anything so you've got right there mar and baby cohen in the car and if [31:24] you look at what dr mitchell said the shot was from a side right side and it went through his body and it [31:39] exited the left side not in front of back so that means when baby cohen was shot it's this police is [31:48] shooting from the side you can't get that shot from the front and so why would you shoot into a vehicle [31:59] from the side where you're clearly not in harm's way and we want to see that video because we want to know [32:08] you know what was the justification for shooting in the field and so a big part of it you see you talk [32:33] about the entrance room and you talk about the pseudo stifling that's important because it talks about [32:46] how you can determine the entrance room opposed to an exit room and he says based on the literature [32:55] review of the material available and we don't have the report uh available for the media based upon the [33:02] review of material available to this horrendous pathologist they have been determined that the [33:07] entrance gunshot wound is located on the white side right side of the chest and an exit on the left [33:15] side although both gunshot wounds were sutured at the time of review there are characteristics of the [33:22] wound on the right side that are consistent with an entrance wound especially when you view amongst the [33:32] associated abrasion of the adjacent nearby skin of the white chest and abdomen and he actually [33:40] flips on that if you can point the point of the the abrasion and the marking from the abrasion there are [33:49] small abrasions associated with the wound edge of the right wound consistent with abrasion margins an abrasion margin [33:58] is not present on the left side an abrasion margin is important because it is commonly associated [34:06] with entrance wounds which are typically smaller well defined and marked by tissue [34:14] in vaccination and inverted edges the abrasion margin forms around the entry opening as the foot [34:22] strikes and stretches the skin while airing the body this makes it use this makes it a useful feature [34:32] for helping distinguish an entrance wound from an exit wound and he cites to the medical authorities on that [34:43] furthermore the most common i'm sorry furthermore the most dominant finding on the body of the infant supporting the right [34:53] wound as the entrance wound are the irregular clusters of numerous abrasions on the right side of the [35:04] infant's chest and abdomen the location size and appearance the square angle and circular [35:13] of these abrasions of these abrasions are consistent with pseudo-stippening caused by temperate glass [35:22] which could only be present at the site of the entrance this is also consistent with the gunshot wound [35:32] on the body when shot through a side car window as an intermediary target and so what he's saying there [35:44] is the pseudo-stippening the temperate glass that he's talking about we can see we can see it with all [35:54] an eye is on the right passenger side of the window to understand pseudo-stippening one must first understand [36:03] normal stippening associated with an entrance wound normal stippening also called powder tattooing is a [36:11] pattern of multiple very small puncture abrasions contusions and or tiny hemorrhage skin injury around a gunshot [36:23] injury wound caused by unburned gunpowder particles striking and embedding in the skin doing a close to [36:32] intermediate range firearm discharge unlike soot or stippling unlike soup stippling cannot be washed away [36:45] and its density and distribution may assist in estimating the firing distance although clothing [36:54] or other intervening objects can alter the pattern again he points to medical authority he's saying that [37:02] normally when you're doing a forensic autopsy review if you can tell the person shot close up because [37:09] you would have the soot from the uh good and so he's pointing out that that's not what we have here [37:18] and so he says the pseudo-stippling is a stippling-like injury pattern produced by materials other than gunpowder [37:27] most notably excel glass fragments when a bullet passes through glass as an intermediate target these fragments may [37:39] strike the skin and create numerous finely dispersed superficial durable injury that may resemble true powder stippling [37:51] but the pattern reflects an intermediate target due to its distribution and size and the abraded injuries [38:02] again he cites to medical authority and what he's really saying is therefore the presence of the pseudo-stippling [38:10] abrasion injuries on the right side of the infant's chest and the infant's abdomen further supports the gunshot wound [38:20] on the right side of the chest as the injury wound of baby corin wiley in fact the pattern of pseudo-stippling [38:30] supports the bullet that entered the infant first fragment the tempered glass on the side when the glass [38:42] bursts the laminated windshield glass y'all understand that that's so important what you say because you have [38:58] the pseudo-stippling all on the right side towards the entry wound it tells us that the entry wound [39:15] happened from this shot here from the side window how you gonna feel for your life when you're shooting [39:24] from the side yeah y'all y'all trying to make the case it's real clear mr keith mr ali it's the side [39:42] window from the right side of the car door that's the bullet that went through that window that killed [39:52] baby corin as i said before it's not a life-of-death situation and you shot into a moving vehicle with an [40:07] infant baby do you justify that how do you justify that you cannot justify that and that's why we are [40:21] having to stand up for baby corin speak up for baby corin and fight for baby corin we shouldn't have to do [40:31] all of this we should have to do all of this we should have to do all of this correct we're gonna and one of as we said it was emotional but we're [40:40] trying to make it clear attempting to leave no question as to why we know the entry wound is to the right side of the body thank you attorney general [41:27] when we talked about when we talked about the shattered glass and the pseudo stifling you see evidence on his [41:36] actual body of baby corin this can i hold one of the baby pictures this this is this baby's body right here and you see the stifling [41:53] on the side of his little body you see the butter entrance thank you attorney general right there and you see all the pseudo stifling [42:03] that dr mitchell explained in his initial review as how he came to his initial finding that the entry wound was from the right side of the body [42:17] and it exited then to the left side of the body that's the exit wound and when you're doing forensic science and medicine all of this [42:28] becomes scientific because you need to know what was the cause and manner of death and so we're putting together this puzzle [42:41] because unlike the mississippi bureau of investigations who had uh autopsy who also had all the pictures also had statements from the officers [42:53] and most importantly had the videos to be able to add up all the dots to get to what really happened in that walmart parking lot [43:07] walmart got video they can help us solve this problem if they wanted to all you customers when y'all go to walmart [43:17] ask them when they're going to release the video of baby corin they want your black dollars to tell them we [43:24] want to protect black lives ask them and if they won't release the video y'all tell them you ain't gonna get out of business [43:34] if you don't care about our black children's lives y'all expect our own black dollars so this is the photographic [43:48] we felt necessary to show you all no matter how graphic and emotional it was because we think that [43:56] they're trying to sweep it under the roof they're not releasing the video and we have to keep the pressure on [44:06] we have tyree nichols father y'all know tyree nichols who was killed in memphis his father mr roger [44:15] wilson is here standing with the family because they know what his journey is i mean it's been almost three [44:21] years and they still fighting and so we can't get nowhere it's time that's right we can't get complacent because [44:31] i'm telling y'all if we don't stand up for this one year oh baby none of our children are safe none of our children are safe [44:41] and with that i'm going to have my outstanding co-counselor who uh headed for a number of years [44:54] the memphis NAACP a great civil rights lawyer and a champion for justice attorney van turner is going to address you [45:02] and you'll hear from one of the community leaders and then we'll take any questions from the media and then we'll have our next calls to action [45:11] amen amen [45:13] amen [45:14] and turner [45:15] y'all give another hand to attorney crump and i know it's graphic it's in your face but obviously there was a better way to handle this situation [45:32] had walmart and had the sanatoga police department release the video because then we would have known the trajectory of the shot [45:41] we would have been able to fill in all of these details that we're trying to fill in now [45:45] so now you see this is what we call in the legal field expert testimony the sanatoga police and the mississippi bureau investigation can say all what they want to say [45:57] you've heard from miss wiley what happened this is scientific evidence of what really happened a side shot through this young precious baby [46:11] was a shot that was meant to kill and it was unjustified they were parallel to this office the kill shot came from the side not the front [46:24] yep [46:25] now we know how this young precious child died the next thing for all the authorities to do is to release the video [46:35] there's no point in covering it up now they tried to but thanks to attorney crump thanks to you all thanks to these wonderful community activists [46:44] they couldn't do it they wanted us to bury this baby and you not know what happened [46:50] what happened yeah they wanted this child to be put in the ground and you not know how this child died [46:58] they had the autopsy report but they won't release it they were going to stonewall us for nine months [47:05] yeah have us guessing for nine months but thanks to attorney crump and all those who really stood up and thank you so much to the [47:14] parents and to the family of miss of this baby they allowed the autopsy to be done they allowed this review to be done [47:25] at such a pivotal time before this young man was put in the earth this past weekend so thanks to all of those who helped us [47:33] get to the bottom of the truth now the question is what can you do sanatopia what can you do what can you do sanatopia [47:42] if you don't do it now then win if you don't do it now then win if you don't elect a mayor that's gonna stand up for you then when you gonna do it [47:53] this man standing to my left ran for marriage he should be your mayor if he was your mayor you would have policies implemented [48:03] to prevent this type of foolishness from going on the next time you go to vote you know what to do [48:09] if you don't want to see this happen again you know who to vote for it you know who to vote for it because when you have in good [48:16] leadership you can put forth the a can't wait y'all remember the a can't wait after Tyree Nichols [48:24] after George Floyd there was a national push for a can't wait you can go down and talk to all five of your aldermen [48:32] you can go down and talk to your mayor who don't want to talk but should be talking should be here [48:38] all five of the aldermen should be right here front row where are they where's the mayor where are the aldermen [48:45] they have if they can't stand up for you now you don't need to stand up for them at the next election [48:51] what's the point of leadership if they not gonna leave so the next meeting for the board of aldermen you go down and you demand [49:03] that the alderman put forth the a can't wait legislation it says de-escalation if they would have de-escalated [49:11] this incident this baby would still be alive it says do everything possible before you shoot your gun [49:18] if that officer would have done that this baby would be alive a can't wait says warn before you shoot no warning [49:25] they shot through the side they can't wait says no shooting and moving vehicles it's on the paper [49:34] a can't wait says no shooting and moving vehicles if this would have been implemented under the right [49:40] man is your mayor under the five aldermen that should have been doing this this baby would still be alive [49:46] it says equal force shoplifting diapers does not require deadly force equal force equal force it says [49:57] comprehensive reporting this officer more than likely should not even been there that day he probably shouldn't [50:04] even been on the force had the other agencies reported it correctly senate told me should not even hire this [50:10] guy to be a police officer what you can do is demand the a can't wait policies that's what you can do community [50:20] you can give walmart hell because they deserve it until they release this video and you can go down there [50:27] and give that alderman's council hell because they should be doing better they should pass the a can't wait [50:34] they should make sure that no more of our babies are suffering and dying like we are suffering and dying [50:44] it's time to move y'all justice for baby coin justice for baby coin justice for baby coin justice for baby coin [50:54] y'all give it up for van tanner you know they really thought when they the funeral and baby coin was buried [51:09] the truth was going to be buried but the truth well crushed down the earth will rise rise rise [51:21] you know an attorney or sharing we're grateful to have good consultants working with us to try to get [51:31] every aspect of this case looked at um it's going to be important it's a team effort we got to find out [51:37] as much about this officer who shot this gun that they are letting on we got to know his background and [51:45] as uh attorney turner articulated i mean what is his background y'all gotta find it out and they [51:55] should tell us we shouldn't have to go on no you know great deep dive he shot a baby if you shot a baby [52:10] i bet you they're willing to know everything about you and so it is attorney turner said it is time y'all [52:20] it is time for us to demand transparency it's the time for us to demand truth it's time for us to demand accountability [52:30] and it's time for us to demand justice for baby coin at this time uh you're gonna hear from some community leaders [52:44] a few community leaders um to just we don't ever at least i don't as a civil rights lawyer i get it without the [52:55] community leaders without the community activists we never get to the courtroom when we're fighting for [53:01] marginalized people especially black people i mean we have to go out and fight minister kathy and show them in the court of public opinion [53:11] that there's no way you can deny us being able to get into a courtroom to have our constitutional rights to justice [53:21] and so i i want to say it again thank you thank you thank you to all the community activists and we have [53:29] uh a few of them here with us we have patrick lamamba who you all know and we have marcus keith and we have [53:40] my care bridges and so many others who refuse to stay quiet refuse to be silent and so patrick lamamba [53:50] please let the community know that we're gonna keep standing up for baby coin y'all give it up for patrick lamamba [54:08] it didn't get real hard for me i'm just gonna tell y'all i i saw them pictures in the back and it's real hard for me [54:26] how many of y'all ever heard of the term righteous indignation yes sir righteous indignation well if you [54:36] ain't heard of the term righteous indignation is a term that expressed when oppressed people have been [54:44] oppressed for so long that they have made a determination within their spirit to respond to their oppression [54:56] and a lot of times they look like things that we uh not used to seeing happen kind of like riding [55:04] i remember being a child and i'm watching in the 80s something was going on in the enemy and square [55:13] in china i remember seeing the vision on the tv screen of one chinese ran out in front of some tanks [55:24] and we're throwing rocks at the tank how you win throwing rocks at a tank well literally you can't win right [55:38] but see righteous indignation don't suggest that you can't win throwing rocks at a tank it also suggests [55:46] that those people have reached a point that they tie any condition is better than this one when you tie [55:55] when you tie and that's where this community is at attorney crump the senator told your community [56:07] is tired i know i am how many of y'all lost 14 pounds in the last two weeks you ain't been dying that's [56:17] righteous indignation because we ain't losing this one we're not gonna lose this one we tie it's an [56:30] it's an african proverb that suggests that the elders mr jackson my elders there's more elders in [56:41] here that i learned a lot from and i'm pulling all that into my intellectual problem and i'm gonna [56:49] explode it back out against this treacherous system but it's an african proverb that suggests and [56:55] baba omar baroudi yes sir the african proverb says that the elders can see father sitting down [57:05] then we can see standing up and say it again that the elders mama sure baba baroudi mr elbows can see [57:19] father sitting down then patrick and lumumba can see standing up i gotta take that counsel so i thought [57:25] about my neckwear this morning and i grabbed this one right here because people been telling me they [57:32] said patrick you the tip of the spear you the tip of the spear that's what this is the african spear i said [57:40] nah man because it ain't about patrick y'all got it wrong patrick just been standing long enough [57:48] when y'all was calling me too radical patrick just kept standing when y'all said patrick you being racist [57:55] now patrick fight racism and to confuse black people it look like i'm being racist when i'm fighting [58:02] racism because you can feel i never gave up because you told me i was radical now what's radical is [58:11] shooting a baby that's what's wrapped shooting a baby is what's wrapping chris rock i remember when [58:21] ferguson happened chris rock the comedian he wouldn't be in front of me with this one he would be in fashion [58:32] he said it don't take six months to figure out who did something he said it takes six months to cover it up [58:41] walmart senator pd you covered it up mbi i didn't deal with y'all before you covering it up it don't take six months [59:01] to show us what happened it take you six months to fix it so the world will see through your eyes so we know what we're dealing with [59:11] so i ain't got no fiery speech today because we dealing with a very very sophisticated system of white supremacy i'm gonna call it what it is [59:23] i'm not gonna waste no time we got cameras out here we ain't gonna trivialize this we're dealing with a sophisticated system of white supremacy [59:30] and then senator told me it has boiled over this is the epicenter and we've been fighting this this ain't new this is not an isolated incident [59:40] this is a pathology of racism that has went unchecked and we didn't let it go unchecked until it had touched all the way home and it took baby corn [59:52] they took baby corn and i didn't vowed i didn't let it go i didn't vowed on my life somebody going to jail [1:00:04] there ain't gonna be none of us somebody going to jail about baby corn [1:00:09] we have put together a team because see this is the thing this is the thing let me say this [1:00:17] see when they put baby corn body in the ground the other day all the marching over all the protest [1:00:30] over all the signs over see they watching i'm talking about the oppressors and the system they watching [1:00:39] a wise teacher by the name of Dr. Laverne he told me he said Patrick he said you watch when we protest [1:00:45] he said see if the protest lasts for more than four days he said because if the protest lasts for more than four days [1:00:55] there's some serious people organizing behind their protest see they wait until you get mad [1:01:02] they wait until your energy run out until you get through hollering because they know you don't have [1:01:08] any sophistication behind your organizing and you don't have no staying power behind your organizing [1:01:14] wrong answer this time wrong answer this time [1:01:19] yeah i'm good we got the NAACP state of Mississippi organizing with us they'll be here tomorrow [1:01:28] we got the congressional black caucus organizing with us we got community organizing that's taking place [1:01:36] right here in this congregation right now we have established scat scat the senator committee for accountability and transparency [1:01:47] we'll be before that board uh next next tuesday on the 7th have the cameras there and we're not coming being volatile put us on the agenda we need a former i'm tired of busting up in your meeting [1:01:58] and trying to fight through your officers and helicopter gunships and snipers on the bill i'm not doing that no more [1:02:10] so that's where we at i'm done it's about the work it's about what we're going to do to fight the sophistication of this system that's why mr nipples where you at mr nipples come on come on up here [1:02:25] that's why this man is still fighting tyree nipples and we've seen what happened [1:02:29] okay that's why he's still fighting because the sophistication of white supremacy system [1:02:35] that will not allow us justice and we tired of it so everybody out here got a deposit to make [1:02:42] you got a deposit to make in your community right now to change the course of this [1:02:47] i call this our generation's mtl moment this is our generation's mtl moment we got to respond we got to put the components together [1:03:00] we got to get all our black professionals and intellectuals that understand we got to get you together so they can strike back against this system [1:03:08] so that's all i got to say we got work to do community and we got to get justice for baby corn [1:03:15] her baby is our baby i don't want to hear nobody else say if that was my baby there was your baby that was your baby [1:03:24] your baby is our baby josephrel i see you your baby is our baby your baby is our baby your baby is our [1:03:36] baby thank you y'all give it up for patrick lamuka thank you patrick for your leadership [1:03:44] Thank you to all the community activists for your leadership. [1:03:49] Mr. Wells, do you want to say anything? [1:03:52] Give it up for Tyree Nichols' father, Mr. Rodney Wells, [1:03:59] being here standing with the family of baby Chloe. [1:04:05] Patrick said a lot there. [1:04:09] As he was speaking, I kept thinking of another great elder, [1:04:13] the civil rights icon Malcolm X. [1:04:17] And Malcolm X said, if we are to lose, it won't be because we were outnumbered. [1:04:23] It would be because we were out-organized. [1:04:26] So now is the time for us to organize, organize, organize. [1:04:32] They thinking they can outweigh us. [1:04:34] We're going to have a countdown every day that Walmart don't release that video. [1:04:41] Every day. [1:04:42] A countdown every day that San Antonio Police Department don't release that video. [1:04:48] A countdown every day that Mississippi Bureau of Investigations don't release that video. [1:04:54] Patrick, can we do that? Can we make that happen? [1:04:57] Yes, sir. [1:04:58] Every day, the community need to have a countdown. [1:05:01] And we're going to have times, the longer they take, we're going to plan out even more significant aspects to show our conviction that it will not be swept under the road. [1:05:17] Organized, organized, organized, organized. [1:05:27] And y'all, so many of these cases, Mr. Wells, like Tyree and George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the list goes on and on. [1:05:43] And so many times, we kind of forget that it's not just a hashtag, but it's real life. [1:05:52] And I would remind you, as I look back at the photograph, you know, Felicia had her baby in her arm with that bullet pierced to the side of him. [1:06:08] Can y'all imagine the psychological trauma she's experiencing? [1:06:14] This beautiful young mother who had all the hope and promise for her baby boy, her first and only child, and the nightmares. [1:06:29] And, you know, she had endeavors to go and be a nurse, wanted to go to the local community college. [1:06:40] And that, I don't know how much it's going to take for her to halfway get over this nightmare of losing your baby in your arms because we shot him. [1:06:57] I mean, and so y'all do everything y'all can to support them. [1:07:01] I know they have all kinds of things going on to try to help her. [1:07:06] Google GoFundMe for the parents, try to help them if you can. [1:07:12] There are things that, you know, the milk of counselors and things they're going to need that we got to stand in the gap for them and try to get it. [1:07:24] And so I knew they didn't need to be here today because this is a painful reminder. [1:07:32] It's a very painful reminder of what she had to endure holding her baby in her arms while he took his last little breaks. [1:07:42] And so this is more than just a hashtag. This is a one-year-old baby. [1:07:49] I believe, I believe, Kareem Ali, that this may be the youngest victim of police brutality. [1:07:58] At least the youngest one I've ever known in being involved in with a shot and kill. [1:08:08] And so we keep fighting and ask you to keep the family in your prayers and do whatever y'all can to help them. [1:08:20] Felicia, she did not deserve to have her baby get shot while he was in her arms. [1:08:30] She did not deserve it. We're talking about a box of diapers. [1:08:36] With that, we'll take some of your questions if the media has any. We tried to make it, we're in the church, we tried to make it plain, Minister Cameron. [1:08:48] Yes, ma'am. No, we have not, we haven't received anything from law enforcement. [1:08:58] And so hopefully you all, as the media, as the fourth branch of government, keep asking them for it. [1:09:07] We meant to do public workers lawsuits. We all need to be suing because why does the citizens pay for these body cameras? [1:09:16] Why tax dollars pay for the body cameras and the dash cameras when we need to see the video the most? [1:09:23] They won't release it. I mean, that's what we should be asking. [1:09:33] We're assuming Walmart. We're assuming Walmart. [1:09:36] Can we pull that back up for me? And I can announce that. [1:09:43] What do we do with this? One minute.
